tae was someone who was really good at giving gifts. he hardly ever was nervous. but when rowon said he wanted him for his birthday present what was he suppose to do? deny his best friend what he wanted? not a chance. so right before he knew that rowon would get home from work he playfully fixed the card on top of the huge box in their shared bedroom and then hid under it.     note -> ‘lift box for present’ from hyuntae    now all he had to do was wait for rowon to come home and lift the box. when would he actually get home? hours? minutes? only time would tell.

   rowon stops short the second he spots a large box sitting in the middle of the room.  it’s rather indistinctive aside from its sheer size .. which is an immediate cause of concern in it of itself.  while his dormmates aren’t known for pranks – at least, not in his experience – he doesn’t fully trust some of them.  his steps are careful, cautious.  he inches closer and closer until he catches a glimpse of the note.  from hyuntae.  ah.  safe, then.

   but it’s strange.  the box is notably not sealed at the bottom, and hyuntae doesn’t seem like someone who would miss such a detail like that –

   “i wonder what this is,”  rowon drawls, his words almost sing-song as he strolls around the gift to add to the suspense.  “hm, knowing tae, he would’ve put a lot of thought into it .. could it be an electric scooter?  a treasure chest of snacks?  a puppy perhaps, or the best gift of all –”  he lifts the box abruptly.  “– the gifter himself.”  a smile curls along his lips.  “aren’t presents supposed to come with a bow on top?”  rowon looks around the room before retrieving a red bow from a present he’d received earlier.  he places it on hyuntae’s head.  “there we go.”

   “adorable.”  his eyes gleam as his hands come down to squish hyuntae’s cheeks to the same shade of red.  “you’re mine for the rest of the day.”

"what do you think are your strengths right now?" strengths? hyuntae didn't always think about his strengths. instead, he always thought of where he could improve. to become a better idol. so he had to think for a moment before replying. "i'm skilled in dance, rapping, acting and i'm confident in my growth in singing." to say growth would almost be an understatement. he went from being unable to carry a tune to being someone who isn't embarrassing.

hyuntae knew he had to add more explanation but these kinds of interviews always made him go from the cool-headed dancer to a nervous wreck. "im confident the most in how i can demonstrate dance and create choreography. i think in the future i could benefit a team with those skills."

"what are three skills that you would like to work on starting 2024?" what skilled did hyuntae want to focus on? hyuntae wanted to work on all of his skills. even the ones he believed he was strong at. he didn't want to let down his future teammates. "the skills I'm least strong at that i know need work are languages like japanese and english, but i want to perfect my performance more as well. and every idol needs to have the ability to model" the list he wanted to do was endless. he didn't even mention the variety aspect. what would happen if he debuted and they were sent to a variety show! how would he be able to build fans if he was a snooze-fest

"if given a chance, what types of gigs would you be interested in participating?" out of the options that he was presented there wasn't many that he was really prepared for. he had no skills in variety, modeling, or hosting. he was just a boy who wanted to dance. "given the choice acting would be my first choice. whether it be dramas or musicals. i believe i grew my singing just enough for musicals. my second choice would be variety. i enjoyed myself during spring boys when we were given that opportunity. it would be nice to do something like that again." getting to interact with their sunbaes and show themselves to the world was a huge opportunity.

"during your time here in legacy, what are some of the lessons that you've learned about yourself? ( either as a person or as a performer/trainee )." hearing the question, hyuntae smiled softly. "i've learned to open up to those around me. growing up it was always just me and my brother. i never really had many friends. so my journey in legacy has been just as much me finding out who i am, as it has been me learning skills." growing up hyuntae couldn't trust those around him. now it was completely different. but now he had to learn how to cope without his brother around. now that his brother was debuting. "i have also learned that i love leading and teaching others. especially with dance."

she could see it clearly now; the picture painted in her eyes and the back of her brain, as if it were a long-lost memory from the past when in fact it wasn't close to reality yet — but her whole body gave away a shiver, it could well have been the cold night air in her bare shoulders, but she knew it came from inside her chest. the vision consists of a sentiment she had been grasping all night, to be stolen away by the one she kept glancing back and forth the whole night long. the room they just had made a scape from was overcrowded with the mindless conversations, the in and out of faces made her dizzy enough to cool off on the champagne for the time being. she was picture-perfect in eloquence, elegance, and beauty; everyone wanted a piece of whatever she could give — what she was working on, how she was doing, talks about the weather, the past, and performances. hardly ever anyone touched on something personal, which she was grateful for but perhaps what made her bored so easily. and it all fell into the category of feeling like she was being interviewed, by now haneul had the grace to deal with the talk.

still, she couldn't help by feel how it resulted in every piece of subject rounding back to her, and by the end of every night, she was left with some guilt in her gut for letting herself get played by everyone else's games. and one might think that for a long time she must be doing it that she grew used to it and she did, she in fact very much did, which was the reason why the guilt would rise and she changed with it; accommodating it into just another part of the process. that's perhaps the reason why many celebrities let it go over their heads, they couldn't help but feel like they were the center of the world — that is because indeed people treated them as such. and many of them couldn't conceal it, so they blew from all over or just hid from everything resulting in not even recognizing themselves. she wasn't immune to it, hyuntae wasn't immune to it, her very dear best friends weren't immune of it too and each one had their own way of dealing with their own fortune, or in this case, misfortune.

regardless of her the quality time she spent reckoning these things, parties, all the same, always had one effect on her — to drink, dance, and flirt with her husband from afar. company parties like these were everyone's favorite and at some point, couples would be at each other's throats, friends would be at each other's arms and whoever had company would leave well before three am, the remaining single paws would either find anyone or just resume home too drunk to even know better. many moon nights ago, she would sulk in a corner with her reckless friends, who all always seemed to have someone, sometimes just anyone would do — and it was, at a party much like this one that she did the same, expect hyuntae wasn't just anyone, he was her friend and although their kiss wasn't something she ever pictured happening before that moment, it was as mythical as it might as well have been. back from a few minutes ago, she saw him glancing her way with the same grin, probably thinking the same. how innocent, how fragile, and how magical it all stands now. not at all very different from her, hyuntae was scolding conversations back and forth, she even noticed how his fingers kept clinging to the hem of his back pocket jeans where his phone was. this clearly meant he was holding back texting someone, most definitely her. how could they still try to maintain a secret even though everyone in that room knew them as a couple? what they were so hesitant about? she knew the answers all too well, but right now didn't seem like the moment to acknowledge it.

which brings them to this moment, on the balcony, swaying their bodies softly to the fainted music like they were the only people in the world. he was guiding her naturally, like their bodies belonged together as if saying she was made to dance with him. and she knew she was, haneul wasn't much of a dancer but he made it look as if she were a princess and her body melted with every touch and each step. her head instinctively rested on his chest, his heart was beating in a distant rhythm one she recognized — alive, well, and very much hers. she closed her eyes to the sound, his hand drifted from her hand to her back to find the other; now they were holding each other while still swaying as one. the walls were closing on her, her breath was becoming steadier and she began giving in to her need. "can we be like this forever?" her voice came all lazy and quiet as if she hasn't spoken for hours and it felt like it. his body reacted before his words, he let louse under her voice and she smiled well-knowing of the effect. haneul glanced up, their eyes locked in unison and they must have smiled back to each other at some point because moments passed before he was looking at her lips and she was drawing her breath back before he could close their distance. "would you dance with me forever?" she followed his gaze, surprise, and adoration filled in it. the answer was his reaction itself, it build her to nestle her face on his neck and smile faintly there. he smelled masculine; of musk perfume and a hint of citrus. her fingers found the bare of his chest, comfortable drawing lines there. "i just- i feel so lucky in your arms." and everything else faded completely — the world, the party, the music — and they calmly found that peace they did when they were together: a lifetime of doing so would never do justice to both.

it was a halloween event that everyone seem to attend at the club, he was dressed up as steven harrigton working at the ice cream shop on season three and he was moving around places, and if wasn't for the company of his bandmates he would feel like having a meltdown on the place because he felt so out of places on social situations. hyuntae wasn't a big fan of parties, he wasn't a good drinker and even though he made friends with the most random people easily a lot of times he didn't even know what he did to be liked by them. he appreciated the music playing in the room though, it made his body feel more relax than alcohol could ever do, it was like every muscle of his body felt like moving and there was something that grew inside him that would burst his confidence and he felt invincible. that other time he felt this good was when he was loved by the love of his life and he wondered if she was already in there, that growing feeling starting to grow again up to his heart just wishing to be with haneul.

he bumped into too many people trying to make space to walk and search for her until he could see her and didn't even need to ask what fantasy she would be wearing. haneul was sitting in some table hanging out with her three best friends, all of them dressing in sexy costumes while his girlfriend was following the theme of what halloween was supposed to be, and if you asked hyuntae he would say that he would just for that only he felt more in love with her. haneul was known who she was and would always do things that felt comfortable for her and he envied her so much for that, he continuous to learn so much from him that he just accepted the fact that maybe he could never be the perfect boyfriend for her but that was okay because she was already satisfied with who he was. hyuntae made his way toward the table, standing behind his girlfriend, placing his hand over her waist in a way she would notice him. "hi ladies, can i take this one away for a moment?" he smiled briefly at them and locked eyes with haneul, not beliving in the confidence in his voice when talking to them and how much their relationship had grown over the years. hyuntae still had memories of when he would awkwardly get her room in the dorm and have to judge the stares that kyungri and seulgi would give him, and as much scared he was of them, he understood that they were being protective over someone who they cared about while hailey would kindly try to ease the energy in the room talking to him which he was very grateful but he knew she was being friendly to him more out of love for haneul and trusting her decision on having him is her life again than actually have a like on him. nonetheless, everyone in there moved on and got close to each other and he wasn't afraid anymore to flirt in front of them, or whoever would appear. "c'mon dance with me" he whispered in her ear and hyuntae knew she was starting to blush because the one didn't enjoy those stuff as much as he but he didn't care at all, he knew every moment they had was perfect.

he took haneul by the hand and pull her body over his to kiss her. he wrapped his arms over her even if the song was playing didn't feel like this at all, swing their bodies together making her body loosen up, mumbling the words of my love by justin timberlake, the music that the dj put to play. hyuntae lowed his height to be face to face with her, their noses teaching each other and haneul could feel his breath. it was so unusual of hyuntae to be free but he didn't care if he wasn't supposed to be this way, she made him feel like they were indestructible. he face was burning red while dancing and seeing her waist move that closes to his, he put his hand over her neck and they started to kissing, his lips were warm and growing deep each time passed. they stopped to catch on their breaths and haneul gave a cute laugh and asking what give into him today. "i love you, thats all."

"well if people don't like it..." he began with a shrug, "its their loss really. and they need to get their hearing checked" hyuntae believed that the backbone to any group was a variety of voices. if everyone had similar voices who would draw people in. tae chuckled feeling his gentle nudge and nudged him back.

"if im honest im a bit nervous about these songs. i don't think ive practiced my singing enough" tae was beginning to think he didn't have time for everything he wanted to do currently. he was so focused on everything else he didn't even get to dance as much as he wanted to.

hyuntae couldn't help but laugh again remembering the past. "sorry, i can't help but laugh. its funny"

a chuckle falls from junkyu, a small grin expressed across his face. "a little, yeah." he nods. "i always thought it was different in a way that people wouldn't like, because i've had it in the past where people have been surprised and not in the best ways. so it's surprising when people tell me my voice is unique in a good way." junkyu admits with a sheepish smile, taking in a deep breath. he looks at hyuntae, smile widening and gently nudges him. "thanks, man. that means a lot."

he nods again, humming gently. "hmm, that's true, or maybe they're trying new things? it's interesting to see what they all come up with though, how they make different things work." and it was true, at least to junkyu. so he can only wonder what they would do with something like his voice.

junkyu scoffs playfully, this time nudging hyuntae a little harder but still light enough that he didn't hurt him. "good, i'm glad you didn't see it, i hope no one did. a few people know about it though, but other than that, no one saw because it happened backstage before we went on luckily. and you better. i can't have it happen again."
