hi tumbly dot com so i started playing a (100% ""legal"" i promise) english romhack of tomodachi collection recently using death note characters as my islanders because im hyperfixating like crazy. here r some of the silly moments ive encountered so far (screenshots below the cut)

ok. i didnt mind genloss, it was ranboos first massive project, theyre only 19 and a streamer, ok. but oh my god would it kill to take an improv class. the first 2 episodes felt like an snl skit. especially when it was branded as original and then was just some sort of frankenstein of different horror tropes from ranboos favourite horror media, that just reminded me of snl stealing joel havers skit lmao.

there were so much issues with it and i feel like i wouldnt mind as much if it was branded as a horror comedy a few months before the show, not 3 days before the show. a few months before and the weeks leading up to may 24th, it was branded as "you arent ready for this. this is groundbreaking, nothing will ever be the same after this show. this is serious." etc and then i think it was like 3 days before may 24th there was that fucking showfall media psa that just felt like ranboo saying "oh btw its a comedy" without warning it caught me so off gaurd lmao.

then he streamed after that sfm psa released and, if i remember right, people were asking about it being a horror comedy in chat and ranboo was like "well yeah obviously did u think id make a project 100% serious? no lol" (dont quote me on that though its been a while) now theyre saying gen 0 and gen 2 are going to be completely horror now, but i dont think thats true bc they also said gen 1 was mostly horror and none of it is

speaking of, the advertising was just lies lol. the whole "little to no filler :D" thing. it wasnt like ranboo didnt expect the improv to last that long bc the expected runtimes (from their tumblr post on may 23rd i think) were sometimes longer than the actual ones. 1st ep was meant to be 1-2 hours, it was 1 and a half, so that much filler and standing around going "what the hell man" was PLANNED. they just lied about no filler to make people excited. just be funny and i wont mind the filler. i like sneegs humour in his streams but here he was just bickering with ranboo. same with ranboo to charlie, charlie was the only one making actual jokes so when ranboo and sneeg were alone it was just "wait so why didnt you just-" "well idk i thought u woul-" "well why would i-" and when i tell you it drained my soul.

ive been a massive ranboo fan for about a year (im recovering dw), and after the game theory episode i got really hyperfixated on genloss (up until the sfm keynote thing i think). i was hyped for it back when T_1 was the only thing released for genloss, and followed it all the way up to the streams. i watched them live and my face was just like 😐 I WAS SO DISSAPPOINTED LMAOOO

the box being 18k pissed me off so much bc an experienced filmmaker/writer/director could make something so much better than genloss with just that 18k. i aspire to make my own live action thing one day, and like, hearing them go "oh yeah the box was 18k and jermas face prosthetics were 10k teehee🤪🤪" was just. AAAAA. and the thing is, like the prosthetics were funny, but spending TEN THOUSAND DOLLARS as a BIT from jerma going "what if i took off the mask and it just doesnt look like me lol" then framing urself as jesus christ and a victim. i am so mad.

idk how to feel about ranboo anymore, i used to watch like every 2nd stream for a while but then the whole "GUYS BUY MY MERCH also racism bad MERCH!!!!! BUY!!!!" thing made me rethink lol. the racist and misogynistic undertones in genloss made me so uncomfy, and while im not poc so i cant speak on that, i have enough sense to know that having the only poc in the entire show play evil rats is so tone deaf.

and niki!! i was worried when the teasers were coming out bc every single person shown in it was a white guy (and a white enby), so i was kind of happier when niki showed up, but then she died within the hour to "commentate on misogyny in media". ranboo thought that he was commentating on misogyny by contributing to it. did they think this through at all. i would have LOVED if they did something special with niki and something powerful, but all that happened was she showed up, cried, then died and now ranboo fans are going "ranboo was so real for this!!!". ik niki had control over her characters writing but im sure ranboo was the one who decided when certain characters died and stuff.

also i hate to say this but the mask flashing to signify if he was in control or not was EXACTLY like a thing in the undertale fanfic (sfw im not weird) i wrote when i was 12 💀💀the characters eyes would flash when they were under control bc edgy. it was so weird watching genloss with that in the back of my mind 💀💀💀💀

in conlusion, genloss had so many flaws and so much easy fixes that it just feels so sososososososo rushed. another year in the oven wouldve been ok i think.

I heard of them and their songs but not enough to stan. More like a casual listener and i only knew S.coups from his alpha leader rep. Because you impressed me so much with your genshin i decided to give it a go too. The fact that I know 0 of Wonwoo or SVT but you manage to make me curious is so damn impressive. So i searched up wonwoo and svt and spiralled from there. I meant to leave praise and a comment bc literally, shit was going down hill and that fic and svt? it made life a lil easier knowing theres this pocket of space i could giggle, watch 13 men cause chaos, find the chillest fandom, and enjoy their fics. But my dumbass rushed and spiralled since reading, i had a hyperfixation that didn't bookmark your fic so i was trying to remember the fic. okay no one asked but here's how i would rewrite it

im gonna break this up into 3 components. the way arkham is depicted, the musical aspect (because i do think that has potential), and the characters

my credentials? im autistic and am currently hyperfixating on batman, and i've been a musical theatre student at the university level for the past four years.

message to todd: bro im sorry im not trying to get in the way of ur craft or whatever but like bestie you gotta reel it in, anyways, this is not written out of hate. just spite.

part 1- arkham asylum

the more i think about it the more i feel like this section should be titled 'worldbuilding'. i think that each batman movie or adaptation has its own highlight as to what separates it from the rest. the nolan movies ground absurd comic ideas. batman 2022 sort of takes advantage of the fact that its absurd and lets it be absurd, i think they've got a really very good Gotham. interestingly, i found that in joker 2019 gotham (and its citizens) reflected the real world. it highlights poverty, classism, and ableism as large issues. most importantly, i think phillips completely flipped what we see of Arkham Asylum. in the first movie, its depicted as a sort of sad place, kind of the last place you'd want to end up and it gives the impression that this is where gotham locks up the people they just dont know what to do with. the secretary man is actually really nice to arthur and there's nothing in the brief scene that indicates that police violence runs rampant here. even in the last scene when he's back in arkham, it's not violent. it's very clean, white, sterile. my question is, why would you then turn arkham into a fucking prison when you've already established that its not a prison.

part two- the musical aspect

this one might make me the most annoyed. this is where im going to stand on a pedestal. musical theatre is a very tailored craft. when you enter into the theatre world theres things you have to do in order to maintain suspension of disbelief and also keep your story organized. the number one rule of musical theatre is "if it's too much to keep talking, start singing. if it's too much to keep singing, start dancing", and the cycle repeats. the other really important thing is that in most musical theatre plays there are specific songs your want to see at specific points of the play.

usually, in a musical, near the very beginning, you want something called an "I Want" song. In Hamilton, for example, this is My Shot. He's explaining to the audience what he wants and what he's going to do to get to his goal. Then there's something called the "I Am" song, which is basically a character explaining who they are, (usually this is reserved for the villains, so that you dont empathize with them as much). Interestingly, in Hamilton, the closest thing i can find is Aaron Burr, sir, and Schuyler Sisters (though arguably neither of these are villains). But think of like Dentist from Little Shop or Poor Unfortunate Souls from Little Mermaid. Then, there's also the 1st act show stopper (One Day More from Les Mis, Bottom's Gonna Be on Top from Something Rotten, Tonight (Quintet) from West Side Story, etc), and the 11 o'clock number (Santa Fe from Newsies, Made of Stone from Hunchback, Legally Blonde from Legally Blonde).

none of these tropes show up in the movie and YES i went through the entire album on spotify.

i dont know what was going on there, funny enough, every single track on the album has a DIFFERENT producer and composer, which might explain why they're all just a different iteration of the same goddamn message with a slightly different beat. this is not a musical. these are just songs. i honestly can't figure out how they fit within arthurs character either because the movie doesnt even follow Rule 0. he starts singing at the most unorthodox moments. like the first song, for example, For Once in my Life comes WELL after meeting Harley for the first time. Why not have him sing that song on his way back to the E Wing right after meeting Harley.

here's the thing. i maintain that the movie could have gotten away with the musical aspect. the first movie makes it a point to emphasize that the music we hear is also heard by arthur, indicating that the music that's played is a reflection of his psyche. so absolutely make it a musical if you're doing a sequel, but for god's sake make it consistent. let the music tell the story, not exclusively what the characters are feeling. and if they are feeling something they need to have an arc within the song. it cant be stagnant. they really muddied the waters as to what was diegetic and what wasn't. i think it would have been really funny if we saw people like harvey dent, or the judge reacting to arthur randomly bursting into song. he's living a fantasy, we know this, let the other characters see it as well.

part 3- the characterization

im going to address the elephant in the room. stop giving dogshit, inaccurate depictions of DID. it's harmful. just. stop. bro. to quote my sibling, "why would you try to explain what's wrong with the joker". let him be a freak. dont use his trauma as an excuse for him fucking murdering people. this is where i think they should have stayed true to the last movie. arthur has a defense regardless of whether or not he's mentally ill. we know he's mentally ill. we also know he's living in abject poverty in a city with a crime rate that's insurmountable. that in an of itself is a more reasonable defense for pleading not guilty than having mental illness is. i think it would have been more effective to allow arthur to come to terms with his actions through that lens rather than through the veil that he's genuinely not guilty by "reason of insanity".

harley quinn's character was cool, that's one of the few things i liked. i liked that she lied about her upbringing, but apart from that they rlly made her the most shallow person in the movie. like fuck dude, give her some substance. why didn't she set off the bomb at the end? why didn't she like, disrupt the court, or something like give her something to do oh my god.

they did harvey dent so fucking dirty. like first off, you cast the most beautiful man. and then he does nothing. you had two-face but you gave the- AHHH. IT WAS RIGHT THERE YOU FOOLS. and i get wanting to make your own version, and i get that the joker corrupting harvey dent has already been done but then why did you put harvey dent in it. like it felt like a carrot and a stick. it went no where. also??? one of the guard's is called Bullock, but that also goes no where and oh my god the guards.

look. i'm a big fan of post-modernism. i think it's cool. i think shocking people into a state of realization can be really effective. but i also think that you shouldn't just. abruptly assault your main character. i think that if arthur, instead of being assaulted, had been violently beaten up, it would have a) paralleled the first movie and b) shown both arthur and the viewer that violence is prominent everywhere. no matter where arthur goes, he's going to be kicked while he's down. you didn't need to fucking assault him to break him.

bonus part 4- how i would have written it

it's gotham. i would have found a loophole to get arthur out on bail. i would have allowed him to interact with different parts of society. he could still meet lee, along with the people that agree with the joker, people who don't. people who fall in between. people who don't care. and then you could give each different person a different song. then, maybe shit goes down in the "second act". maybe there's a provision that screws up arthurs bail, and thats when he's locked up in arkham. the isolation and police brutality (because i do think that's an important thing to showcase) causes arthur to develop as a character and bring us to the final scene. maybe harley sets off the bomb to break him out. ALSO (and I KNOW it's a joker movie, not a batman movie), i would have tied off the batman line from the first movie. maybe the wayne trial is running concurrent with the joker trial. if you're going to have harvey dent for gods sake add in jim gordon. also??? give the little gay guy some more things to do. let him kiss other gay guys. maybe dont kill him. sorry they did that 2 u ricky r.i.p.

Theodora crept up the steps, willing herself to melt into the dark and remain unseen. She had hoped to steal across the Distillery District more or less unnoticed, a get-in-get-out trip to her quarantined apartment for a few valuables and a sorely needed change of clothes. Simple. Practically a cakewalk.

The problem, she saw in a few quick peeks over the edge of the stairs, was the City Watch. The brutes were easy enough to slip past one on one, but a handful of them actively patrolling was going to be a problem. There were more than she had thought to plan for. She eyed the walls of light, the newly installed watchtowers- something had happened since the last time she'd risked a journey home, something enough to spook the Lord Regent into sending considerable backup that hadn't been here before. Whatever had come through had been a force to be reckoned with, and they clearly did not want it tearing through again. Theodora frowned; she was no such force. She had hardly been a good dock worker before the rats came and gnawed the good ones to bones. This just made more trouble.

Theodora leaned against the divide out of sight at the bottom of the steps, her thumbs at her temples. Her mind worked to come up with a plan, a safe route out back the way she came, and came up with nothing helpful. She could fight her way through the Watch and be killed, fight to get to a wall of light and be vaporized before she could yank out the whale oil powering it, she even glanced up at Dr. Galvani's office to see if she'd be able to scale the wall. All stupid. All the same result.

Theodora sighed and put her hands out behind her to lean on.

And accidentally sent a glass bottle skittering out of sight off the ledge, where it shattered with a loud, terrible echo against the cobblestones.

She froze in horror at the sound, her eyes snapping upward to the top of the steps. She could hear a single confused, "Huh?" followed by the slow thud of approaching footsteps in the distance. She silently prayed for the guard to forget, to shrug it off as rats or roaming weepers, but Theodora had never been so lucky. The silhouette of a Watch uniform slipped into view just as she crept under the arch of the bridge out of sight.

Too close. She flattened herself against the hard stone wall at her back, hardly daring to breathe. He saw you. He's going to see you. There's no way. A thrill of panic surged through her. How could you be so stupid? So careless? There was no time to run, no time to hide. She could only hope that whoever this guard was, he was in a particularly forgiving mood today.

Theodora leaned out to peek around the wall, just enough to catch a glimpse of the stairs. She took hurried stock of the guard; he was young, but not frail. Only the one, probably not frightened or experienced enough to bring backup. A pistol ready at his side. All the advantages to kill her as soon as look at her, but could maybe be bribed or reasoned with. She thought of her empty pockets, her apartment picked clean of all but the useless sentimental things, and felt her heart sink. The only options available to her were certain death, or a hopeless leap of faith.

She took another peek, sizing up the guard as he cautiously picked his way down the stairs, his eyes sweeping the street. She was certain he'd seen her- if he hadn't, it was only a matter of time. With a gulp of breath to steady herself, Theodora rounded the corner and stopped suddenly inches from his face. He nearly yelped before she clapped a hand over his mouth.

"Please," she whispered urgently. "Please don't."

His wide dark eyes darted all over her face- she realized he was looking for signs of the plague before his hands fluttered to the weapon at his side.

⋆ gosho notices hirota first, whenever they go to watch jinkou play against tenjiku ! rlly admires his strength on the field and finds himself wanting to get to know him lol

⋆ is the one to initiate their first convo after a practice game together and hirota thinks hes an absolute pest- reminds him too much of the flashy, pretty boy types in dramas, but waaayyyy more charismatic (and actually nice lbr)

⋆ gosho probably gets hirotas number from kamo afterwards (thx kamo ...) and messages him that night w some goofy lil "hello ! (^０^)ノ" and hirota is just left wondering .. “who tf ..."

⋆ once he figures out its goshozome, he decides that hes even MORE of a pest- still replies to him tho ?? he rolls his eyes about it but he cant help but find him amusing ; its not long before hes looking forward to their chats :D

⋆ over time they start to talk more and while they dont have the most in common personality-wise, they find that they have similar likes and hobbies (aside from rugby ofc) that they can talk about for hours- even their differences and separate interests make for good conversations ! 

⋆ the first time they get together is probably to do smth a bit more fun as per goshos suggestion, like bowling (naturally, seeing as hirota is a bowling god), mini golf, or even ice skating- smth that gets em out, but where they can still chill and talk afterwards ! 

⋆ also, most places like that provide snacks + appetizers 2 share soooo ;))) while its not exactly a "date", its definitely a place to start

⋆ in all of this though, hirota ends up learning a lot more about gosho and that, in spite of whatever misconceptions he had about him, he really just wanted to be friends- and honestly ? this makes hirota feel rlly fuzzy deep down :( not that he admits it, coward

⋆ them actually getting together though is definitely a gradual thing . i feel like goshozome wouldve realized early on that he didnt want just a friendship with hirota, but it took hirota much longer to figure out that his own feelings werent totally platonic lol- its not until wellll into their college years that they decide to give dating a try :)) 

⋆ their friends were not surprised when they started dating ; probably more surprised w how long it took . esp kamo, who def caught the pair making goo-goo eyes at each other like a bajillion times before they made it official- hirota may have thought he was being lowkey about it, but gosho wasnt even trying tbh- 

⋆ overall they have a really sweet relationship :(( i see gosho as the type of boyfriend who can be a lil overbearing in his affection (though it comes from the heart ofc, he just doesnt like being discreet about the person he loves imo), so hes always reminding hirota of the million and one reasons he loves him, gifting him things, taking him places, etc, and while hirota doesnt mind be flattered like that, he never really gets used to it either lmao- gosho calms down about it when theyve been together longer and the newness wears off a bit lmao

⋆ hirota, on the other hand, is a bit more subtle about that sort of thing :)) its the little things that goshozome loves tho ! hirota cooking him his favorite meal (goshos canon type is good cooks so I MEANNNN...), giving him something that reminded him of gosho, or simply saying “i love you” is enough to make him melt- knowing that hes appreciated and thought of like that will never fail to make him absolutely weak smh

⋆ how the two started talking outside of rugby stuff ?? BEYOND me . for the sake of this it doesnt matter, but i dont think it was long into them talking + developing interest before they decided to go on a date lol

⋆ try going on a few of the rides, but adachi gets queasy every . single . time . so by the fourth ride they agree to just play the different games instead (which is fine, bc adachi was looking foward to that part anyways-)

⋆ adachi keeps trying to win the stuffed animal prizes to add to his collection but loses p much every time- takebe offers to try his luck, and gets it in one go :D (and gets stuck carrying their loot the rest of the day lol) ends up winning some big, light blue cat plushie that permanently resides in adachis bed :)))

⋆ venture into a haunted house attraction and take turns screaming + clinging to each other when they get scared- adachigahara tried playing it off like he wasnt scared at first but ,, neither of them would be that good with spooky stuff lbr :’)

blood seal of the eternal mermaid (2011):

+ really lovely character designs especially for lupin he looked great

+ animation = good!!!

+ lupins dynamic with the maki was cute. i like seeing lupin in the cool big bro role

+ some gr8 zenigata moments

+ i liked those introspective moments with lupin questioning his identity and legacy

+ toonami dub cast. tony oliver lupin is just Right

- main plot wasnt super interesting to me tbh

- the rest of the gang kiiiinda felt sidelined? it felt very centric to lupin and i mean yeah he is the main character but i feel like theres usually a lot more gang shenanigans you know

bye bye lady liberty! (1989):

+ idk if everyone is gonna vibe with these 80s character designs but personally i loved them. it had a cartoony energy that felt fun. animation was nice too

+ silly :^) it made me smile a lot while watching

+ i felt like the whole cast was well utilized here. everyone got some good moments

+ moemon

~ tonally this movie is kind of.... bizarre. i wouldnt say thats totally a bad thing because personally i like bizarre tone but it might not be satisfying for those who prefer something more concrete or mature. this special almost feels like it could be something you could watch with your family with how goofy it is.... but then it will hit you with something that is clearly not family friendly

the castle of cagliostro (1979):

+ its a miyazaki movie. do i really have to elaborate. in the 1 hour in 40 minutes of this film you will have a wonderful time

+ pretty accessible for anyone to enjoy even if they dont know jack shit about lupin. i watched it with my gf who had never seen a lupin anime before and we both had a great time

+ i really gotta hand it to miyazaki for creating this kinder, gentler version of lupin. feel like this movie had to be pretty influential to future characterizations of lupin that have him as a lovable little rascal instead of a devastatingly horny morally bankrupt creature of chaos

+ fluffy jigen

+ peak zenigata design

+ badass fujiko

- id say the only real drawback of this film is that while it IS a great and accessible point for franchise beginners, they might get whiplash from moving from this pleasant gentleman thief lupin to a LESS gentlemanly thief lupin....

episode 0: the first contact (2002):

+ jiglup my beloved..... seriously a jiglup essential. jigen is gay as hell in this special and i wouldnt have it any other way

+ the whole scene near the end where goemon chases lupin with zantetsuken

+ when lupin is briefly shown to have a whole wardrobe full of feminine clothes that would only really make sense for him to have if he wears them regularly. probably for disguises but i like that he seems so comfortable with it and its not made into a joke either. in fact in his very first scene he is disguised as a woman and was femme fataling for a heist and i honest to god thought he was fujiko at first

- .... not to say this or many other pieces of lupin media are progressive. ngl there were some parts i feel didnt age great particularly one horny lupin moment with fujiko that left a bit of a sour taste in my mouth

- artstyle is just kinda Bland. idk if i would go far enough to say its BAD but it didnt stand out to me

the first (2019): 

+ YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS THATS WHAT IM TALKING ABOUT BABYYYYYYY THATS THE GOOD SHIT THIS IS HOW YOU TRANSLATE 2D ANIMATED CHARACTERS TO 3D

+ i had so much fun watching this movie its a fucking blast. everything looks gorgeous

+ watched the dub and it was fantastic especially tony oliver doing a great job with lupin as always

- big cw for n*zis though and its unavoidable since they are the antagonists and its a big part of the plot

- besides that honestly i cant think of many complaints maybe the story isnt amazing but i feel like the primary objective of this film is to be fun and it succeeds at that 

the fuma conspiracy (1987):

+ cute!!!!! a fun lil movie thats an enjoyable watch

+ character designs and animation is great

+ i liked murasaki she was so good

+ terminally gay pops

+ opening song BANGS 

~ this movie somewhat notorious for not featuring the usual voice cast for the time because of budget reasons which is pretty weird but... ok? personally it didnt affect my enjoyment of the movie and these voice actors did a fine job but some may be off put by it

the hemingway papers (1990):

+ jigens terrible taste in men

+ cute artstyle that is pretty much the same as bye bye liberty

+ i really enjoy jigen in this one. hes hung up over his Mysterious Gunslinger Past™️ and tries to be the lone ranger for a bit but in the end he cares about his silly polycule too muh

- gonna be honest this one kinda dragged for me a bit plot wise. there were a lot of cute moments but besides those and jigen’s ex sideplot it wasnt terribly interesting

- pops was definitely sidelined 😔

island of assassins/walther p38 (1997):

+ this is a great more action oriented special! if you are looking to watch something more serious but not quite koike levels serious this is a solid choice

+ i actually was pretty interested in the plot itself which is rare for lupin specials lol

+ amazing smooth animation and fight scenes!! it wasnt too shocking to find out that it had been worked by many well known talents in the industry like gainax/trigger’s hiroyuki imaishi

+ MY FUJIGOE CRUMBS

+ elen was a pretty cool original character

+ zenigata WAS kinda sidelined again but..... theres a scene where he literally resurrects himself from the brink of death right after his heart stops because someone in the room mentioned lupin. i think that makes up for it

- artstyle/character designs are kinda... idk if i would say BAD but they are very much a Generic 90s Action Anime style. not my favorite look

jigen’s gravestone (2014):

+ jiglup. i loved their relationship progression so much!!! it seems like they are still early in their partnership in this movie... work partners but not quite friends yet.... at first. you can really see the turning point where their relationship start evolving into something deeper and into the mutual trust we come to expect from them. its great im rotating them in my mind

+ animation is so so so so so great and sexy also

- time to address the elephant in the room... if you have seen jigen’s gravestone, or know anything about the plot, chances are you know what im talking about. fujiko’s narrative treatment is BAD bad and deeply disappointing even though i enjoyed the rest of the film a lot. really say what you will about twcfm but... sayo yamamoto would have never put fujiko in a scene like that, at least never at that level of gratuitousness. i heard these films do get better with fujiko and im still plenty of excited to watch more but yeah that was Yikes  

operation return the treasure! (2003):

+ this special was like. delightful. what a good goofy little experience. was laughing AND smiling

+ idk if it was just me but kanichi kurita seemed to be putting in effort to make lupin sound EXTRA silly. and i totally appreciate it because this lupin is so cute

+ animation was solid!

+ i thought the premise was great. the concept of the gang having to return a bunch of treasures instead of stealing them is so fun. the plot got a little strange with the alien stuff there at the end but hey its lupin its natural at this point

+ jigen :^) i love him being all like “this job is DUMB and im not doing it” at the beginning and then getting fully invested in the antics. this guy is way too weak for his partner

- Man in a Dress Joke :^/ for the most part the humor in this special is superb but understandably this one does not land great even if it is far from the worst of these jokes ive seen

prison of the past (2019):

+ must a lupin the third special be “good”? is it not enough to watch some entertaining stupid shit?

+ i really enjoyed watching this ngl the plot was not interesting but i enjoyed the character interactions enough that it made up for it

+ im glad yata was utilized in this special because his dynamic with zenigata is delightful. i hope they get to do more funny shit together in part 6

+ huge win for lupin/jigen/goemon enjoyers. it was really cute how goemon has a bit of reflection on why he decides to stay with these clowns and comes to the conclusion that he loves being part of this circus

+ jigens terrible taste in men: the return

- like i said the plot isnt interesting and i wouldn’t call it an Essential watch either but hey i came here to be entertained and i was entertained

tokyo crisis (1998):

+ finally time for pops to shine!! and he certainly does!

+ actual memorable original character!!!! bring back maria you cowards….

+ this is an ultimate jigoe special they are paired up for most of it and they are so goddamn funny

+ seriously this special is full of great gags

+ tho im more used to the toonami dub cast i saw the dub for this special recommended so i gave it a shot… and it Owns though i still prefer the toonami cast overall

+ animation is seriously top tier

- it might have been implied (in the dub at least) that zenigata had romantic interest in maria which is yknow a little weird since hes twice her age but ultimately its pretty low key and he gets firmly Father Figure Zoned by the end and nothing ever goes beyond that

Earth, 65 million years ago: Yucatán Peninsula, Mexico

The middle brother was the first to open his eyes.

With them he beheld a strange world, foreign but not unfamiliar. Not unlike the many he had seen in his long, long life. In a matter of minutes his mind was already exiting the haze of the impact, racing with thoughts too quickly to count. With the flick of a forked tongue the dragon tasted fire and brimstone in the air. A reptilian smile, cold and calculating, sliced across his visage.

All around him was the remnants of an oasis - trees uprooted from the scorched earth, what was once a lake thriving with life was now barren, the bed of soil cracked and sizzling from the rain of fiery debris. The Golden Demise's work had already begun.

With a shrill cry, he turned to his brothers, nipping at their throats to rouse them from their disorientation. The right brother hissed, nipping back at his superior. The left brother scanned the horizon. He could feel the wave of heat from the destruction warm their scales, a surge of power growing from the tips of their talons to the edge of their wings.

With a roar more akin to a cackle, they outstretched their wings, a curtain of thunderless lightning surrounding them. It was a power the dragon took great pride in, knowing that after all their travels there wasn't a being that could ever hope to rival them.

They were inevitable.

They were the planet eater.

Suddenly, the right brother's head whipped around, lips curling into a snarl. There was a presence approaching far too quickly for it to be any of the stragglers that barely clung to life from their arrival. The middle brother's eyes narrowed, rattling their tails as he strained to look through the thick cloud of smoke that filled the crater. The left brother flared his horned crests as another of his high-pitched trills echoed through the air.

Through the hazy smoke, glowing red from the embers that fluttered around him, a bright blue light shone like a beacon through the darkness.

The middle brother felt the crackle of their lightning burning up in his throat, while the other two were simply too awestruck at the sight of opposition before them. In a matter of minutes a silhouette emerged from the haze, tall and strong and so fiercely determined. Tremors shook the earth beneath them with each step the being took. But the brothers were not so easily impressed.

          - dares."

The titan huffed, a hot puff of air rolling from their nostrils as jagged teeth formed a crooked sneer.

They had drawn close enough for the brothers to fully observe their form. The middle brother let out an incredulous snort.

"Dull -

        - Slow -

                   - Weak."

Dozens of deep scars marred their scales, one of which ran over its left eye, leaving it white and cloudy. They were all jagged edges and coiled muscle, so different from their own regalia. The brothers were sleek, radiant from the glowing embers that clung to their gilded armor that crackled with electricity. They towered over the lizard before them, it was almost

And yet the creature persisted.

The lizard nipped at the air, head tilting as it released a growl. Its amber eyes narrowed, almost seeming to scrutinize the conjoined trio ahead of it.

At that the middle head could sense his left brother's impatience growing, and with good reason. There was nothing that could ever hope to challenge them. All who dared met their fate at the brothers' hand. They had relived this scene many times before, and the brothers assured themselves that they would relive it many times more. But from beneath the ashes that covered the titan came a distinctive blue light thrumming throughout their body like a distant star. Or a warning. The brothers unleashed a cacophony of cackles. If they were good at anything, it was snuffing out stars.

With three simultaneous cries the dragon galloped forward, their wings kicking the smoldering detritus beneath them into the air. The rival narrowed their eyes, readying their stance as they leaned forward. With a sharp jerk of their head, their jaw snapped open. A thundering roar unlike anything the brothers had ever heard nearly stopped them in their tracks. It was as sharp as the being it came from, seeming to cut through the very air itself. The sound rattled their bones, shaking what remained of the trees around them for miles.

Ending with a low rumble like rolling thunder in their throat, the rival smirked.

But what is thunder without lightning?

The brothers jaws unhinged, serpentine strings of yellow energy crackling through their teeth and clinging to the lizard like thorned branches. The creature doubled over, releasing a pained cry while landing heavily on one knee. In an attempt to shield themselves, the lizard shifted, curling around so that it's rocky scutes faced the dragon.

The brother's relented, saving their lightning as they pounced on the downed figure. In one swift movement - almost graceful - the right brother's maw wrapped around the lizard's arm, teeth digging in between scales. The left brother followed, pinning the other arm. They could feel the strength in the titan's muscles, a power they had not seen in recent memory. In fact, they could not recall any being that resisted for this long. Restless and irritated, the middle brother sunk his teeth into the lizard's neck. Even this creature's unarmored flesh had endured his teeth. The dragon sunk deeper, eliciting a long wail. Finally tasting the familiar iron-laden liquid on his tongue, the brother would've smiled if he could.

The lizard thrashed, their long, spiked tail whipping about like a dying snake. They looked up, desperate eyes searching the darkened sky with a look of fear that the lizard had not felt in a long, long time.

With a deep inhale and a growing whir that even startled the dragon from their adrenaline-induced stupor, the titan opened his mouth. A blueish steam poured from their maw seconds before the dragon felt a heat sting their vulnerable chest scales. In seconds the red sky was torn apart by a spire of blue light.

The middle brother's companions laughed. The fool had missed! And the dragon was but inches away from the lizard. This fight wasn't just easy, it already had a winner.

The dragon's lightning gathered in their chest, moving up their throats before dying out completely. The right brother detected a sound - no.

A song.

Through the smog was a light that rivaled even the brothers'. It was as though a sun had somehow formed right before them out of nothing. But it was no sun, as the middle brother quickly concluded. Suns didn't possess wings.

The brothers hissed as the flying sun passed right over them, its harsh light blinding them almost completely. At that same moment pointed limbs scratched at their necks, taking a scale or two along with it. The dragon released the lizard from their grasp, attention now on the new assaulter, wings readying for flight.

With an aggravated trill, the brothers flared their wings. Unexpectedly, something called back.

The middle brother's lips curled into a snarl. What could possibly come next after this nonsense? The dragon soon found his answer in the form of talons, narrowly missing his eyes. The left brother outstretched his neck, attempting to bite at the second flying creature. But it was much too fast, far faster than the dragon had ever been.

The lizard stood back up, regaining its posture from before. This time joined by the two newcomers. As the light from the second faded as it landed on the lizard's shoulder, it revealed an elegant being that almost resembled a moth. The third landed beside the titan, this one seeming to blend in with the area around them, their skin cracked and glowing like magma given wings.

The lizard-titan roared.
