a spoiler-included review of haikyuu!! battle at the garbage dump movie
the score was great as ever though i wish they added some new music
that being said i got so hyped everytime i recognized the background score which was all the time
the animation's not bad. Some of the characters looked a little wonky but over all it was ok
the subs though drove me crazy due to the inaccuracies and misspellings.
pretty much everything was kept in regards to the kenma/hinata plot
like with the anime, a lot of it was still almost panel-for-panel faithful
a lot of the side arcs got heavily condensed though as i expected
yamaguchi and tsukki's plot line especially got the short end of the stick
i just think this match specifically has so many little things going on and they're all important and in the manga, it's a very rewarding read to see all these moments and dynamics and arcs that we've seen build slowly come to head with characters we're all invested in
i'm glad they leaned into kenma in his problematic villain era because it's really fun to see
the pacing and intensity were more or less fine
like this is the only time you'll see me this invested in volleyball of all things
but again this could've been properly spread out over a season and there was absolutely no need to condense it into a movie
oh random but there were definitely some kuroken shippers in the production somewhere
the ukai/nekomata backstory got cut completely as i expected
i think it's because there's so much going on but a lot of the side characters felt completely swallowed up and that's not normally a complaint i have with the anime
kourai is so cool
the credits scene was fun
oh, they switched up some of the voice actors
overall i liked it a lot more than i thought i would but being so invested in the manga and having most of this match memorized from how many times i read it, like i think it could've been better and im upset that there was no reason we couldn't have gotten it in a season
