uncommon opinion. ant phillips is the swaggiest member of genesis
#yes he was only there for two albums. yes the first one sucked#no he never performed live after 1970. which is insane to me#but his solo albums are so good. for the most part#his voice is lovely he makes such catchy melodies his 12-string fingerpicking abilities are unsurpassed#he frequently made up fake personnel for his albums which is so funny to me#one of which is named vic stench. who is just ant#great url idea tbh..#when ant left genesis they really thought they were going to break up because he was so important to the group..#...obviously that didnt happen lol#and he is so charming. he didnt/doesnt do many interviews but in the ones he did his personality is delightful and genuine#idk how any of that equates to swag honestly LOL its just a funny thing to say#ive never listened to mike's solo work but of every other genesis members solo stuff i like ants the best#and like i said in a previous post his voice held up astonishingly well#(from the one track with vocals thats been released so far)#i have to write him fanmail. i have to#so far chris squire is the only person whos responded to a dm lol#99% sure ive said this but ive also tried pete sinfield (email) phil manzanera (insta) and andy mackay (insta) i think thats it?#oh and peter hammill thru email. duh#andy left me on read LOL#wow im off track. anywya#a beast that can talk

Ari's K-Pop Roundup: April 2024 (NewJeans, IVE, RIIZE, KISS OF LIFE, ARTMS, LOOSSEMBLE, BABYMONSTER + MORE)
check out last months installment here :)
Bubble Gum - NewJeans
With HYBE collapsing in on itself and ADOR being the epicentre of the explosion, a part of me was a little afraid that NewJeans' comeback would take a hit in the quality department. From the first bars of 'Bubblegum' I knew I had been worried for no reason.
'Bubblegum' is an early 2000s synth fueled record with an edge of 80s Japanese citypop. It's groovy, simplistic, and effortless in execution, and while it isn't necessarily an innovation in NewJeans' notoriously trend-setting discography, it's still a welcome addition that capitalizes on the members vocal tones and the group's style beautifully.
The music video is gorgeous, as usual, with it taking notes from the raw, realistic nature of 'Ditto' and the colour-pop confidence of 'Hype Boy'. Danielle looked especially gorgeous in her natural curls, and Hanni's sharp bob is so striking - she looks like an anime heroine, and I love it.
I know we've all heard the phrase 'I think I just made the song of the summer' a little too much these past few years, but I am of the opinion that NewJeans has successfully achieved it with 'Bubblegum' - it's been a whirlwind year so far for me, and something easygoing and chill like this is exactly the energy I will be bringing into the hotter months.
Even though they have made ripples in the kpop industry, it seems nobody can do it quite like NewJeans.
해야 (HEYA) - IVE (IVE SWITCH)
note: i will be covering the rest of the mini album when the m/v for 'accendio' is released next month, so stay tuned :)
Coming off of the mildly contrived 'Baddie' and the shockingly beautiful 'Off The Record' from 2023's 'I'VE MINE' EP, I wasn't sure where I was going to stand with IVE's comeback. Once again, I was pleasantly surprised.
'Heya' is a track with a chorus melody that makes such perfect sense that you are left amazed that nobody has thought of it before - its so easily catchy, and being 100% real, it's been stuck in my head since the m/v teaser. The construction of this song is honestly very impressive (Dem Jointz is the arranger so this is unsurprising), every vocal or instrumental motif pokes it's head in and reappears in an effortlessly perfect way, even the raps aren't jarring, a pitfall many a kpop track have fallen down before.
Functionally, this song is the perfect response to 'Baddie': that playful edge they centred in on in that track is still present here, but IVE have returned back to home base a little more and drawn from that elegant, untouchable concept they built in their iconic debut trilogy. 'Heya' understands the elements that saved 'Baddie' from succumbing to unlistenability, and knows how to use them redirect back to the right track without discarding the lessons learnt entirely.
While I don't think this song has reached 'After LIKE' or 'Love Dive' levels of perfection for me, it's still a super fun song for IVE, and absolutely a step in the right direction.
(final note: does anyone else feel like this song samples 'flashing lights' by kanye west?? does anyone else hear this? like at 45 seconds?? maybe im slowly going insane idk)
Midas Touch - KISS OF LIFE
(check out my breakdown of the historical allusions in the mv here)
Kiss Of Life seems to just know exactly what they are doing, and the music is just getting better and better. The Britney edge and old SNSD flair on this track is right up my street, and all the members just give their all on this song, their talent is so consistently clear.
Their seemingly exponential growth in popularity and success from debut is so well deserved, they are truly setting the standard for the quality of music of the 5th generation; they are proving with every release that kpop does have more to offer, there is more innovation to be made.
My grievances at this release being a single album aside, this was a perfect comeback in my opinion. Congratulations Kiof for graduating nugudom, I can't wait to see what you do next.
Impossible + 9 Days + One Kiss - RIIZE
And just when I thought I would never enjoy a boy group release again, RIIZE dropped 'Impossible'. The audacity to release something as fucking amazing as this like 3 months after 'Love 119' (which i controversially loved)??? Insane.
This track marks SM's latest addition to their arsenal of iconic house bangers, 'Impossible' revitalizes everything that made Shinee's 'View' and f(x)'s '4 Walls' so good for the 2024 music scene. It has that late night BBC Radio 1/love island pop edge to it that I have been yapping about for months, and I am so obsessed. This is how to compete with Somi's 'Fast Forward' for the most british sounding kpop song.
'One Kiss' is a sonic sequel to 'Love 119' - I am just so obsessed with how much they sound like an early 2000s western boy group on tracks like this, they just exude NSYNC energy. '9 Days' is another laidback pop hit, with a little more energy and longevity than 'One Kiss'. The sound of 2024's summer in kpop has clearly been established, and I for one am in favour.
RIIZE being the first boy group to last more than two comebacks on my stan list is really something I didn't see coming, but it's a welcome change.
SHEESH - BABYMONSTER (BABYMONS7ER)
I think babymonster may start to be delegated to the mini review section of these monthly reviews, because I am genuinely struggling to find something likeable within this song. 'Batter Up' at least had a danceability to it, even if it was highly derivative, but 'Sheesh' is just so predictable to me. Even the switch up from the standard YG party final chorus felt formulaic somehow, and the mini album wasn't much better.
Ahyeon is back though, and she proved once and for all that she is absolutely a necessary part of the group - her rap was easily the song's highlight. The performances from this era were genuinely excellent considering what they were working with.
I don't like being a stuck record with groups I just will never enjoy, so I apologize, but discussions around their future releases will be limited going forward, unless they drop something that I actually enjoy.
Pre2: Flower Rhythm + Pre3: Candy Crush- ARTMS (Dall)
There is something about modhaus production that just works for me, and the interpolation of Heejin's 'Algorithm' on 'Flower Rhythm' is a really exciting choice. The verses, post-chorus and bridge are very strong in my opinion, but the chorus itself seems to get a little lost in the sauce. I can see that chorus growing on me however, and the rest of the song is highly enjoyable, very evocative of the yyxy sub-unit.
Haseul's 'Plastic Candy' is one of my favourites from the ARTMS girls' releases, and with it's interpolation in 'Candy Crush' means I am predisposed to be obsessed with this song. It's a little jazzy, a little citypop, and it's the perfect late night summer vibe. This is easily my favourite of the pre releases so far, but the sheer array of styles the girls have demonstrated makes me very excited to see where they go for the title track.
Girls' Night - Loossemble (One Of A Kind)
LOOSEMBLE AND ARTMS RELEASES IN ONE MONTH??? WE WON
Loossemble's 'Sensitive' was pure pop perfection, and the album was just as impressive, so going into 'One Of A Kind' and its title 'Girls' Night' I just knew they were going to deliver.
'Girls' Night' is a classic LOONA type track, a total kaleidoscope of sonic innovation, and it stuns throughout its 3:24 runtime (we love long songs). My girl Yeojin got PINK HAIR, Vivi got a lore update, and Gowon unlocked her irish ancestry - overall a 10/10 in the visuals department. The rest of the album is an actual masterpiece; 'Moonlight' is a banger that caught me off guard by how good it is, 'Boomerang' has an addictive almost hyperpop edge - it's very evocative of Yeppi Yeppi by aespa, or even Paradisin' by Rina Sawayama. 'He Said I Said' plays it a little too safe in the production department in my opinion, and it comes off a slightly childish for them - it's a perfectly enjoyable song, but probably the weakest on the album. 'Truman Show' brings in a more acoustic sound, which builds with the synth to create a truly cinematic feel - it has a ballad vibe, but keeps it on the upbeat side, so if kpop ballads aren't your thing, you still might enjoy this one. 'Starlight' is a perfect album closer, and although it will never be my favourite LOONA song with 'Star' in the title, it's a really beautiful song. This was a really successful album for them, and I can't wait to see what else they bring to the industry.
MINI REVIEWS:
SPOT! - ZICO feat. JENNIE: I was fully prepared to lie and act like this was a masterpiece before I listened because it has my queen jennie in it, but when I actually heard it I was pleasantly surprised with an absolute certified banger. This has that TripleH - 365 Fresh energy that I love, and Jennie's amazing vocals have made me so excited for what shes going to do with her solo work at odd atelier :)
Could It Be + Freak - YUQI ((G)-IDLE): I've never been a huge (G)-IDLE fan, so 'Freak' really wasn't my vibe, but 'Could It Be' had a Sunmi-esque edge that draws me in somehow. Having heard a snippet on TikTok, I also listened to the b-side 'Red Rover', and it's a real standout, make sure to give this one a listen if you only heard 'Freak'.
Blush - woo!ah!: i am in denial thay the official group name is now WOOAH, why are we erasing herstory?? Anyway, 'Blush' really blew me away - this song is so fun, every second is packed with memorable melodies and beautiful production, and that post chorus??? a killer!! SO underrated, if you haven't checked out this song yet this month, be sure to, it's an underrated song that I can see making it high in my yearly ranking.
고민중독 - QWER: Sapphic themes?? in a kpop music video??? with a girl BAND??? yoasobi vibes??? of course i was going to love it! I had never really heard of QWER before this month, but this song is such a banger and the pop rock sound is immaculate - ( @a-moth-to-the-light this feels very much up your street) I will 100% be checking out their discography, and I can easily see these girls making a home on my stan list, this track is truly amazing.
Final Love Song - I-LAND2 Contestants with ROSÉ: This is the kind of kpop song that makes me understand why this genre is so bullied. What are we doing. Rosé sounded good I guess. Moving on.
IMMM - ILY:1: Such an unexpected groovy sound - big Momoland energy. Pretty much everyone is eating up these April releases, even the nugu girlies are bringing it more than usual. I'm slightly worried about the lack of music video or promotions, but this song is really fun, so please go stream and show ILY:1 some love :)

got tagged by my beloved @sillyfairygarden for the "list 5 songs you have on repeat" ask game :]
Forever by Noah Kahan which has been playing on loop in my brain for the past four days straight while i worked on my latest fic, which pulls some of the lyrics for its title!! Admittedly this song isn't my favorite by him, im more of a Paul Revere girlie, but i utterly adore the chorus and it massages my brain each time i hear it :]
Spectator by Friday Pilots Club which has like. THE dirtiest bass line ive heard in a while and also includes one of my magical earworm chord transitions in the chorus. Like holy shit. My brain is melting in the BEST of ways and ive been looping it whenever i want to feel action-y without actually thinking
On a much lighter musical note ive been listening a lot to Arboretum by Sparkbird since it first came out like two weeks ago, which like, shout out to the anon who introduced me to him im so hooked now. Im utterly obsessed with the different tempos and times meshed together in this song so seamlessly, and the lyrics are like POETRY (this song has also made it to my scarian playlist LOL the lyrics are so top tier for them imo)
. dont look at me but this is my number one song to loop when i need to get shit done and want an insanely catchy tune to do it with anyway go listen to Vending Machine of Love by The Stupendium i promise you it is so so funny and so so worth it (and full of INSANE wordplay too) (also it IS suggestive so keep that in mind if u go to listen)
This list would not be complete by me without a City and Colour song so i offer up The Love Still Held Me Near, which is SO GORGEOUS and constantly makes me think of lighthouses and fog and crashing seas.... this is my go-to loop for his songs rn its so full of life and energy while still feeling melancholy in a gorgeously aching way im OBSESSED OKAY GO LISTEN YOU WANNA LISTEN TO THIS SOOOO BAD GO GO GO ‼️‼️‼️‼️💥💥💥💥💥
Okay i am tagginggggg.... @squish--squash @corvidaearts @cocoabats @emberglowfox @raichett :]
#shouting speaks#ask games#kinda???#dkdjsjdndnd#anyway i could have put so much more but thats what im looping atm >:] it changes p frequently#i get songs stuck in my head REALLY easily so i end up having to loop them a lot to get it out of my system DKNDKSNDND#drop me an ask if you listen to any of these songs and enjoyed them :D#txt

✨Tag Game Wednesday ✨
hi @energievie and @jrooc
Name: gigi
What is the most listened to artist in your music app of choice this month? chappell roan yall already knew
What song do you know all the lyrics to? A lot of songs honestly, i use songs to memorize things bc anything set to music embeds itself so deep in my brain - but my go to dark horse karaoke song is
What song do you pretend to know all the lyrics to and sing along to even though you don't?
bc its so catchy but i do not speak german but boy do i think i can when this comes on
or anything from kate bush bc i love her but idk what the hell she’s saying
If you were to be crowned Queen/King/Royalty of listening to a band or artist, who would that be?
honestly this one is too tough, however if it was still 2016 the answer would unequivocally be lana del rey and i don’t want to hear a thing about it
What band/artist surprises you the most on your frequently listened to artists?
sometimes when i write or work i listen to hours and hours of lofi playlists so whenever a song from that sneaks on to my spotify stats im always very confused
Favourite line from a song (or one you have been thinking about lately?
I think these lyrics are very clever and poignant
Guilty pleasure band or song?
college drop out/ graduation and grimes 😬 i don’t think i listen to any bad/cringe music but some artists are pretty shit people
Okay let's talk fandom music:
Fave band or song you've discovered from a Fan Fic?
years and years and years ago i listened to sufjan stevens for the first time bc of a destiel fic
Fave Fanfic Playlist?
I’ll be honest i can’t really think of one, but i have one for myself since all my fics are named after songs, its linked here but hopefully it will grow a little
Fave Gallavich song?
pink and white was insane work for the prison reunion scene but at last brought the wedding to another level of grace and i loved that pick
Do you listen to music recommended by the writer or an included playlist?
sometimes! i try really really hard to but it’s difficult to travel to a secondary internet location for a fic playlist
What song do you think is Gallavich coded?
*sigh*
What’s a bop you want to share with your mutuals today?
I listen to a lot of older gen hip hop on my ride home from work bc it helps me feel relaxed so i’ll leave you with that
i was also tagged for the 5 songs from your favorite playlists game, so ill drop those as well
and the last one is bam bam by sister nancy but tumblr has an audio limit
tagging @iansw0rld @lingy910y @creepkinginc @doshiart @mmmichyyy @mickeym4ndy @em-harlsnow @mickittotheman @mickeysgaymom @softmick @spookygingerr @atthedugouts @deathclassic @solitarycreaturesthey @hazeisblue @blue-disco-lights @metalheadmickey

WAAA MERA I LOVE MONOPS'S REFLECTION SO MUCHHHH
im obsessed with the way you portrayed jade in the story. like its not everyday that i get to see him written in a way that totally doesnt hide his insanity at all. reading monops's reflection was just so <33 aaa tysm for writing smth so amazing!!!
you mentioned before that monops!jade is very "rotten girl grotesque romance", and i totally agree, but i was actually reminded of another old yandere vocaloid song when i read the fic! idk if you know it, but its called "pure love restraint". its a really good song hehe, you should totally check it out if you dont already know it!
oh also speaking of songs, i recently started listening to loveit? by biz since you mentioned it a while ago, and i love the song so much >< do you happen to have any other song recommendations because clearly you have great taste in music~
also as a final note, i cant wait for tmdg hehe 👉👈
-kanata <3
AAAAA THANK YOU!!!!! >w< I'm so happy you enjoyed Monops's Reflection!!!! Jade is so wildly deranged in that fic. He truly is the embodiment of the harsh, brutal depths he hails from. ;;;; seeing Reader in the storage closet with Floyd pushed him over the edge he'd been teetering on for so long now. T^T he's far surpassed the point of no return. I had so much fun finishing this fic and portraying Jade in such a terrifying manner. And poor Reader had no idea what hid behind that seemingly pleasant smile of his until it was too late...
There are so many layers to Monops!Jade. How he gets so disgusted at the sight and thought of you with anyone else. How it's not really sexual gratification he's after; he's just chasing some thrill he's yet to figure out in its entirety, which is why he doesn't touch you at all during the non-con scene. Because it's not your pleasure he cares about; he could care less whether you feel good or not. How his sanity is so thin and threadbare that it's hardly there at all. How he fails to recognize that, despite the similarities he shares with Floyd, he's still his own person, still different, but not different enough for you to look his way, apparently. And then there's the meaning of Monops, which is a "one-eyed creature." >:D aaaaa he's truly the worst.
OOOOO "true love restraint"!!!!!!! I love that song!!! That song definitely has the vibes that Monops!Jade exudes!! And I'm happy you enjoyed listening to "loveit." :D it's a very good song, but then all of biz's songs are amazing!!!
>:) I always have song recommendations to share!! I'll list a few of my favorite (lesser known) Vocaloid songs with dark undertones/stories below, but if there's any specific genre you'd like recs for please let me know!!!
✧ insanity blue (all of kashii moimi's songs are fantastic!!! i recommend them, but this one is my all-time favorite hehe)
✧ wolfism (there's also a jade utau cover of this song. <3 both are very good.)
✧ go to daitokai (the lyrics for this one are very nsfw, but this song is very catchy.)
✧ biohazard (the original is very good, but i love the sonika cover so much!!)
✧ distortion love (this piko cover is everything. <3)
✧ ◇◇ (i love this song and the songs that are similar to [redacted]'s style. i'm not sure if you know of these style of utau songs (the "no title" songs), but in 2020 they became especially popular and a lot of people online began to call it a secret cult of sorts, where you couldn't search these videos normally because they didn't have a title to search for, so instead the videos would find you.)
✧ lamprey hole (i love this song forever!!!!!)
✧ meiro (it's so so good!!!)
✧ no title (this song is a banger!!!!!!!!! it got me through quarantine as did all the other no title songs and tributes. :D)
I will stop here or else the list will go on endlessly, but if you ever wish to hear new music I will be happy to share some recommendations!!! Also, thank you for looking forward to tmdg!!!!! <3 it grows closer to completion with every passing day!!!!

won’t even tag this but with regards to my last reblog—a screenshot of a 30 year old saying that some people just “aren’t intelligent enough” to understand taylor swift’s new album, yes, just like the rick and morty copypasta—im going insane just thinking about people praising this album. because it is just so bad. all the songs have the exact same tempo & melody and they’re all slow synth songs. every track on ttpd is unremarkable because they’re ALL like that—compare it to, for instance, the archer, which was good because its slowness was a huge departure from the larger upbeat album it’s on. however with this album it was clear as goddamn day that taylor chose quantity over quality because all THIRTY ONE songs are practically about the exact same thing. she attempted to achieve a catchy melody (1989, reputation, lover) while foregoing the structured nature of a pop song for “deeper” lyrics (folklore, evermore) and failed BADLY. i can’t even listen to one of my favorite songs on it (subjectively; favorite ≠ great) because the lyrics are so fucking trash and the ending REEKS of purposeful viral tiktok sound.
but all of that is without even getting into the actual content of the songs—the lyrics here are some of worst she’s ever written. if you don’t know, not only is the ‘i scratched your head like a tattooed golden retriever’ lyric real, but it’s on the TITLE TRACK! which is genuinely so insane. these lyrics are goofy and downright fucking stupid but this album is being marketed by her, and praised by her fans, as profound poetry. when i’ve written better lines in fanfiction, but that’s neither here nor there. throughout the album there’s an undertone (?) of an underdog narrative which is not, and has never been, convincing, miss taylor “my dad bought shares of the distribution label” swift. her greatest genuine hardship outside her romantic life is the fact that the other high school kids mocked her because she completely faked a southern accent. which is something you think she would get over because she’s 34 years old but no. also this particular album was written when she was already nearly a billionaire, if she didn’t already reach that—i promise we DO NOT GIVE A FUCK that you were depressed while you went on your billion-dollar world tour that you CHOSE to go on. literally cry me a goddamn river
final thoughts: i enjoy the florence + the machine track but it is shameful to see florence associate herself with such a dumpster fire of a project. and yeah that’s all i have to say. my roommates are swifties as well as my sister so i’ve had to hold back my true thoughts to the point of genuine mental exhaustion. i hate this album a lot. especially the first half. goodnight
#i really have written better lines in fanfiction i wasn’t lying about that.#somehow she only gets WORSE with age#so can she just die or something

Sometimes I think about my Starlight Express song opinions so here they are:
(PLEASE NOTE THAT I AM AMERICAN SO I CAN ONLY WORK WITH SO MUCH)
Rolling Stock makes me feel manly- something about it makes me wanna pump some fucking iron
Call Me Rusty is adorable and is a better introduction to Rusty than Crazy. Call Me Rusty points out his stubbornness and willpower to win, while also showing that the coaches show genuine concern to his condition and don't just go "man this kid is fuckin insane"
If you think I Got Me is "too empowering," You're weird. I understand thinking it's a little odd for setting up Dinah's character, but there's a difference between that and "oh the women are too independent." I think my biggest problem with I Got Me is that there are not coach intros.
I like Lotta Locomotion for what its worth. It's just a cute lil intro song
Whole Lotta Locomotion- wheeeew- it's certainly... a song! It tries so hard to be girlboss-y but fails lyricwise and makes them even more dependent on men- but Im not gonna lie and say I hate it because Jesus it's catchy-
FREIGHT IS GOOD, YALL ARE JUST MEAN- I specifically like the one version from London 1992 where the coaches ARE BRUTAL FOR NO REASON- Also, versions without CB suck ass
AC/DC is at its best when Electra is an over-the-top diva and the components MUST eat it up.
Pumping Iron makes me feel so ungodly feminine (I wonder which part I sing) AND I LOVE IT. I LOVE FEELING FEMININE. I especially love when Greaseball is super snarky and flirtatious.
He'll Whistle At Me puts me to sleep. Make Up My Heart is beautiful. He Whistled At Me is terrible narrative-wise but MAN OH MAN DOES IT MAKE ME FEEL GIRLY
Coda of Freight is REALLY REALLY GOOD????
There's Me is adorbs and I. MISS. IT.
Poppa's Blues is a banger, yall are just haters. Also, hot take, but Poppa should NEVER be white.
Belle may not have much of a purpose in terms of the story, but jeez, her voice is beautiful. I love Belle so much.
I am a Rap enthusiast, so I have to give you my opinions on all of them. Hey You is a classic and it was my first Rap. It sounds so silly and Electra makes me giggle every time. Check It Out is so stupid but WOW IS ELECTRA GAY- I love the beat too. What Time Is It is so extremely CAMPY but I have a soft spot for it- The only version of Own It, Nail it that I have is the 2017 London workshop, and that one was almost a carbon copy of Check It Out. BORING.
UNCOUPLED is always such a sweet song. I HAVE A GRIPE WITH PEOPLE WHO MAKE DINAH SO MF SOUTHERN. Like, I get it, but don't give her a HUGE accent. See Jane Krakowski.
Girls Rolling Stock makes me feel so girlboss.
CB (or Wide Smile) is a mf bop and a masterpiece
Right Place, Right Time makes me jam out hard
The beginning of He Whistled At Me Reprise makes me so sad- DUSTIN QUIT CRYIN BOY!
Dinahs Disco is so slay and Electra is such a prissy princess-
"CB! CB! YOU GOTTA HELP ME IN THE FINAL SEEECTIOOOON"
One Rock N Roll Too Many makes me lowkey sad- but my god is it funny-
Only He is a masterpiece. BUT... NEXT TIME YOU FALL IN LOOOOOOOVE IT BETTER BE WITH ME THE WAY IT USED TO BE BACK THEN WAS WHEN WE TOUCHED THE STARLIIIIGHT-
Next Time You Fall In Love makes no sense to me lyric-wise but the song slaps
"I love it when romance occurs on the railroad"
The Megamix my beloved
So, tell me what you think! Do you agree? Disagree?

RANKING SF9 TITLE TRACKS
disclaimer that this is for fun do not get offended i beg
1. Bibora i feel like this one's just a given. it's catchy, gets straight into the groove without any pauses, rides out very satisfyingly and everyone has even lines! dance is fun (am so mad we never got a dance practice for it), song sounds great—not generic, but not so experimental its offputting either. it's also a house song like come on you guys know i LOVE house music. the only thing that could've made this song better is if we got an ot9 version but alas. a girl can dream. 10/10 this is 100% my no 1 song on spotify
2. Now or Never a CLASSIC. moody and then gets right to the dancefloor. the dance really elevates this song—its SO smooth??? the chorus is iconic (hwiyoung lines too!!) and it ends really nicely as well, no crazy caveats or anything. this song made waves when it came out AS IT SHOULD!!
3. Don't Worry, Be Happy am i biased bc this was my first comeback with sf9 and the inseong promotions got me hooked? yes. but is this song bad? not even close. im so glad they didn't go with a ballad comeback bc even if this song is very chill and doesn't really leave that much of an impression its so happy and im glad sf9 kinda went back to a more lighthearted concept (like mamma mia and scream)
4. Tear Drop so sparkly so unique. love the motifs of tears and the sad sexy vibe we just get from the whole thing. the choreo is ICONIC (apu) and the fits this era were INSANE. the drop was very satisfying, loved how it bounced around in my ears.
5. Puzzle this one mightve been a miss to more people than i thought it would be, but honestly out of all the d flat minor titles that sf9 has an unusual abundance of, this one's my fav. choreo is sick, song gets stuck in my head easily (puzzling puzzling puzzling AAAA), just overall a fun, coasty song that doesn't feel too underwhelming
6. Enough one of the rare slow tempo tracks, this song caught me when it first came out. the autotune gives it so much character, and the dance is addicting and the chorus gets stuck in my head so easily LOL. i think this one mightve been slept on a little more by some but it deserved better
7. Fanfare this track is so weird but i like the melody LOL. the song def leans a little more on the experimental side of things. catch me saying "shh, uh, fanfare ullyeora" so many times. the way they pronounce fanfare is adorable too
8. Scream this song is so dirty and barely even hides it in the way that it seems innocuous on paper and then you actually pay attention for a bit and its way dirtier than expected. chorus didn't really get me, but the verses are my fav and i love the summer concept!
9. Mamma Mia this song is so cute that's all i really have to say. its so 2010s esque in vibes and song type, even if its taking inspiration from grease. dawon's hair was a tragedy but the song made up for it (also FUN HAIR COLORS)
10. Trauma the drop was a little underwhelming for me but i really liked the slow bass beat we had going on in this song :)
11. Summer Breeze the verses saved this song bc i don’t really like the chorus that much at all. the high note is really good tho
12. Good Guy putting good guy this low hurts, but their other songs are just so much stronger. choreo ate tho
13. O Sole Mio it's okay, also suffers from the underwhelming issue that trauma has. its a good song, but not exactly title track enough for me
14. Roar im an EDM nut and putting roar this low? a crime. but it feels like its missing some oomph for me
15. RPM on the other side of EDM nut, this song's drop is just... not doing it for me. the verses are great tho
16. Shine Together im not big on softer stuff so this is just a matter of taste
17. Easy Love same reasoning as shine together. its cute, but just not my thing
18. Savior im ngl idk if this even counts? but its also just underwhelming lol

whats the best gorillaz album in your opinion and why is it plastic beach
how could it NOT be?!? (ty so much for this ask, im going to be annoying now)
Plastic Beach is the third studio album made by Gorillaz, released on March 3rd 2010. It is centered around and based off of concepts like over fishing and pollution in the ocean.
This is the standard album cover, Plastic Beach at Sunrise (or Sunset), but it has three other versions of Plastic Beach at different times during the day:
Daytime
Dusk
and Nighttime
All of them are very beautiful, but if i had to pick my favorite, it would be Plastic Beach at Sunset :)
and while we're on the visuals, Plastic Beach (and phase 3 in general) has some of my favorite artwork ever
this is one of my favs, i dont know why but i just think it's really cool! (this is like phase 3 but pre-plastic beach)
(here are a few more of my favs :])
there was also a web game on their old website, and i havent watched a playthrough of it yet, but it looks really cool! (also 2D is very cute in it hehe <3)
Also i really love the concepts in the album and the story, nautical imagery and marine stuff is super cool to me and i absolutely adore it :D also the tagline being "Escape to Plastic Beach" makes me go insane i dont know why i just love that so much!!!!!
AND OF COURSE THE MUSIC!!!!!
Gosh i love all the songs on this album. The Orchestral Intro and Welcome to the World of the Plastic Beach are amazing and they do such a good job of introducing us to the story of Plastic Beach. White Flag is an earworm for me, and Rhinestone Eyes is a classic. I used to not like Stylo until i realized that i was WRONG STYLO IS SO GOOD!!!! (also this might be an unpopular opinion, but i really like the 3D models in the Stylo and DoYaThing music videos! i think theyre really neat and just really fit the whole aesthetic of phase 3). Superfast Jellyfish is awesome and catchy i always sing along when i listen to it hehe ^_^ Empire Ants is beautiful it makes me feel such strong emotions the beginning with 2D is so beautiful and Little Dragon is amazing in this track ;_; Glitter Freeze and Some Kind of Nature are really neat, not my fav but still really good!! On Melancholy Hill and Broken are my favorites though, they are so beautiful and make me cry!!!!! Plastic Beach (the song) is so catchy and amazing, To Binge is very nice and nostalgic to me (also little side i just really enjoy that a good few of these songs are sort of love songs, it makes my 2D loving heart happy <3). Cloud of Unknowing is absolutely gorgeous, and Pirate Jet is a great closing track to the beautifully sad story of the Plastic Beach.
There is also the Doncamatic single which is one of my absolute favs, so catchy and awesome and i love it when 2D sings "Talk to me, talk to me, talk to me!" And also DoYaThang is amazing, very catchy as well, and the music video is very silly :)
(also a small shout out to The Snake in Dallas from The Fall since its still in phase 3, very good instrumental and my absolute fav from The Fall)
And that's why Plastic Beach is my favorite Gorillaz album!! If you get the chance, please listen to it! Id love to hear all your guys' thoughts on it :)
have a beautiful picture of 2D from the On Melancholy Hill music video <3
#should i put this in the main tag?#yeah yknow what i will#i need to spread my plastic beach propaganda hehehe#gorillaz#gorillaz phase 3#gorillaz plastic beach#gorillaz 2d#plastic beach

@fuzzydreamin thanks for the lol. ive been a little busy with life so sorry for the late response.
Favorite Color:
Green. Like Blindingly Neon almost yellow bile/acid toxic hazmat pukey green. Also black. I'm also a fan of earthy tones, warm greys and browns, rusty orangey reds, and i also unironically love that "some smoker lived here for 5+ years but i swear the walls are white" sepia color.
Last song:
Either Childish Flamingo or 1x1. I've been hopping in between really screamy and just goofy shit atm because i cant focus with anything else. 🤷 But (I also jsut got a new BMTH hoodie) BMTH's post human album has been feeding me. It's a really good (visual? no.) example of that like just angry and over it nihilist feeling and I just *MUNCH CRUNCH AAAA* like i feel like it could be just the tiniest bit angrier and louder but i think that's my headphones.
as for childish flamingo, its like that miseryxcpr thing imo. It's goofy and funny and it slaps. and it's so catchy. it's like right on the edge of aha funny and fuck you street and i love it. i hope any of that makes sense im sorry lol.
Last movie:
the Demon Slayer movie. I skipped all the way to the end to see the fight between Akaza and Rengoku because they're two of my favs ( in order from that show: Uzui (my mom calls yuzu (my cat) Uzui and its adorable) Akaza and Rengoku. I Found out the english dub is out (im way behind) and just needed to hear their english voice acting. all of it is amazing and Akaza's lil gigles during the fight make me incredibly happy. Guys who laugh/giggle mid combat? Ugh >\\x//<
Currently Watching:
Demon Slayer, Chainsaw man, Tokyo ghoul (im rewatching a bunch of animes) Steven universe. (i love all of these and full recommend them. I literally just yesterday(or the day before idk time is a blur) got a new funko pop, it's the half-kakuja kaneki and i love it.)
Other stuff i've watched this year:
Spy x Family, the Junji ito Collection, Yamishibai (if you like picture style art and horror this is great, its somewhat junji ito like, but shorter stories and ngl the zanbai ep scared me a bit) psychpass (some reccomended this to me cause im (obviously) a fan of darker more gruesome shows, and it is very dystopian, love the art work, but i just dont get it.) Given (if you havent watched this show please watch it its amazing) Yuri on ice, Banana Fish (also another fave)
(I work from home, and pretty much exist at my computer, and need to keep on music or tv to keep the bad thoughts out, so i have a lot of time and opportunity to watch stuff ok)
Shows I dropped this week:
Psycho pass. again, i just couldnt get into it. I know a lot of people seem to really like and it full seems like a show that would be up my alley. that first ep was kind of a lot though. I'm not ashamed to admit i love shows that are unafraid to show nudity and violence but the two together (ifykyk) make me uncomfortable. If this case had been a little further in the show i think it would have been fine, but it's litterally the first like ten minutes of the show. I also tried watching this a few week ago while at wasteland but we were pretty much just out the door.
Devil May Cry. I still love the games and the characters, and i remember loving the anime as a kid but its just... so different from the games lmao.
Currently Reading:
random internet stuff, fics and shit. I feel bad because i used to go to the library all the time but at the same time, i dont really have the room to store a whole bunch of books and despite being super dyslexic, i read insanely fast, so renting/buying books isnt worth it to me. (i've read entire full length series in the span of a day or two, while doing other stuff. I need longer, more conveniently packaged novels and that typically comes in the form of fanfiction. )
tagging: @snowmutant @ivanpahdrylakeracer @glaochormfitheach(idk if ur cool tagging you in this kinda stuff, if not just lmk i though it'd be fun :D) @the-soup-witch(im dragging you into tumblr culture whether you like it or not, welcome to tagging games)

rating music please don't hurt me #20 | lil boat 3.5 - lil yachty
every five entries, i will look into a significant (not always a masterpiece) album from the past (totally not a stolen idea). today we're going to talk about lil yachty's album lil boat 3.5.
lil boat 3.5 marks an interesting end to the lil boat trilogy. the two first album, lil boat 1 and 2, were an unexplainable mess during my first glance of listening, but i may not go further talking about this because i haven't got a full experience with the two pieces yet. to be honest, lil boat 3.5 is a little bit underrated, and i mean a little bit because the album is more tolerable than the two first albums, but still in a messy and unpolished fashion.
please note that i'm rating lil boat 3.5, which is the deluxe version of the original album lil boat 3. 8 new songs were added in the deluxe bundle of lil boat 3.5, they are alright, but it doesn't improve the overall quality of the album that much.
the new production style improves the album by a decent amount, and fortunately for me, it just really fits my taste alright. the production was the thing that hooked me up, but it also was the thing i feel gray about, because its kind of repetitive. the production is very energetic and fun to listen, its so crazy it made me dumbfounded, but is a hot mess sometimes.at least they can make the retro-ass synth better? but hey they hooked me up so thats a point.
this is yachty philosophy in lil boat 3.5: guest-list in front and im in the back. every got a great spotlight in the verse, except for oliver tree because how would you even let him in your album, yachty?
overall, the new album is interesting and tasty to bite the least, but that's only in my opinion. in a retrospective view, the album is yet quite messy and tasteless, and goofy, like on crack. its not boring thoguh even so its an career-defining album from the artist and will lie in his legacy, and yes it will be an interesting one.
this album may not be in your favorites, but it will be in my 'wtf is this bullshit i love this' list.
underrated gem(s): lil diamond boy - its a criminal fact that this song is so unpopular, LIKE ITS SO GOOD, t.d - every guest ate and left no crumbs, if there is crumbs it is prob lying on lil yachty deadass, westside - no comment its just not bad and not not good.
tracks that i rec listening: flex up - hello lgbtq community especially the lesbian couples from the ghetto who is a rage rap fan, coffin - i really like this repeating and hard hitting beat into the verse, charmin, just how i'm feelin', in my stussy's, top down - roblox sim game ahh beat idk, split/whole time - i went so insane when the smooth transition happened SKJDKJF, pardon me - this song will always be catchy asf, demon time, can't go, oprah's bank account - love this and drake maybe uhhhhhhhh, range rover sports truck, lemon head - throughout the song is a repetitive sample that plays like you're using that one electronic somewhat midi piano on garage band that plays the sample in tune when played.
worst track: certified - the synths are horrible, there are tracks as rubbish as this but it is explainable to be on top of this monstrosity
overall score 6.3/10 - this is all opinion so pls no hate
listen to the album here:

behold... the one non-video game song i list here fdgfdhjg. i feel like despite their notoriety through the fnaf song, a shockingly small amount of people know that the living tombstone put out a whole original album a few years ago! this is definitely my favorite song from it, i really like the way it sounds and the lyrics and theme are really cool to me. also the music video is really pretty!
~
Toad Town Ghost Town - Paper Mario: The Origami King

a song that's ended up having a lot of personal significance to me hehe.... the main theme of origami king is probably my favorite in the entire series, and i really love how lowkey this version of it is while still maintaining the same emotional feeling

Can you maybe (only if you want to) rank Taylor’s albums and maybe also explain why you’d rank them like that?
oh okay ill try
evermore - my beloved, i love how every single song has such a strong identity if that makes sense. like there's this common debate that evermore is the better album but folklore has better songs? i think folklore has a strong identity as an album but the songs dont as much as evermore. every song is so unique and lives in it's own world and i LOVE taylors voice with real instruments and her storytelling is peaked here.
folklore - everything that i said about evermore basically but slightly less. i love the vibes she was able to capture and the whole album paints such a picture- i've always felt like taylor is at her strongest when she's doing something new and this being such a new place for her (genre and writing wise) shows how refreshed she must have felt.
speak now - the most dramatic, messy and honest album in my opinion. its so late teens/early 20s to me in terms of subject matter and i love when she uses some rock influence in her songs and theres so much guitar in this album i love it. also the fact that it's entirely self written insane.
1989 - a modern classic. this also strengthens my theory that taylor is at her strongest when she's doing something new and challenging. i cant believe the first time she tried pop she came out with style, ootw, blank space, etc.... like wtf. the lyrics arent as poetic as one would hope but there still good and very impressive.
fearless - my baby. there's just something so bittersweet about this album and it's so solid. there's not a lot i would cut (from the standard version... vault tracks are different) and its so wholesome and full of whimsy. i love the production on it too, i think it works with her voice so so well and it's aged beautifully.
midnights - okay heres the thing, every criticism ive seen about this album makes sense and i agree but for some reason after seeing it live... idk i like it a lot. there definitely are skips and i get why people were just unimpressed truly... but some of the songs are so insanely catchy and i like the way her voice sounds... cant explain it.
red - i think this album is really good when you're in a certain place in your life or a certain mood, it's not an everyday album for me. i think it has some of her best ballads/slow songs but the upbeat ones lack for me. the best ones are holy ground and state of grace tbh. plus with how long red tv is... it's a bit overwhelming.
debut - she's cute but she could be improved upon and it's her first album so we can cut her some slack, i love iomwiwy, tim mcgraw, picture to burn, should've said no, our song, etc. she has standouts she's nice.
reputation - this is where we go into the negatives outway the positives. this production is way too much for me, like i said her voice sounds it's best with real instruments underneath is to me- so this really fake manufactured production just doesnt work. it also aged sooo badly to me. this album live is a different story tbh but recorded it's just not my fav. when she's performing it live she adds real instruments and im praying that she does that with the rerecording because it helps so much. the only songs i would literally die for her not to change is lwymmd, dress, so it does, and ready for it. i think dont blame me is so overrated and dont understand why people love it.... im sorry. it's so basic to me... we've seen the whole 'your live is my drug' this so often and the production is basic too... i feel like anyone could be singing it.
lover - my god what this album could have been. this has some of her best and some of her worst. my list of complaints is long. i dont like the production- same reasons as reputation, way too fake and clunky. some of the lyrics are.... wild. the setlist is strange, i would cut like 4 songs tbh. i love cruel summer, inthaf, sygb, lover, london boy and false god.

i wanted to do like overall thoughts posts for the last 2 batches of episodes but i never had the energy after watching them so i just didnt do it but i Really want to with these last two because Wow!!!!! spoilers duh
ok so episode 5 is definitely my favourite between the two!! as well as the overall feeling being awesome, it had so many moments that made me laugh (although episode 6 did as well) and also some of the songs were actually catchy ESPECIALLY the last one in the actual performance. and oh my god the whole thing with harriet and joan is absolutely the cherry on top i love them SO much the part where harriet said she lied bc she loves joan and then that being expanded on in the next episode…. their relationship is seriously so interesting to me they both want nothing more than to make out for it to work out and it makes for such good arguments and even better apologies. i admit i was REALLYYY scared for a second there when it actually kinda seemed like harriet and jfk really liked eachother so the scene where they actually saw wtf was going on was a huge relief and im glad in the end (well for the next week) everything is back to normal and no one’s friendship is tainted.
SIKE !!!! ok. hhrgrttg. wow i loved these two so much in episode 6 its insane. i loved abe so much in these eps but good lord this one was just so amazing. it was SUCH a good fucking representation of him, with him wanting nothing more than to do the right thing and for everyone to be happy but being conflicted with what he wants to do. SORRY FOR TALKING ABT HIM IN A JOAN CENTRIC EPISODE. she is also amazing as always and tbh i cant help but feel like tbe psylly legs thing was some sort of euphemism for autism. like look at this
overwhelming emotions being expressed physically and that making you the laughing stock of your peers and trying to mask it from everyone you meet??? Ermm guys…!
ALSO THE JANITOR APPEARING AGAIN AHHH!!! IT WAS WONDERFUL!!! AND CANDIDE DEFINITELY GREW ON ME IN THESE EPS THE MOST!!!
thats all i have to say really. now LOOKKKKK GFS REAAALLLL

ooh also crj's emotion!!!!
YAY OMG TY
EMOTION by Carly Rae Jepsen
The best song on the album
emma youre right. it has to be Run Away With Me. its so fucking iconic
My favorite song on the album
either LA Hallucinations or Warm Blood. I learn towards LA Hallucinations because it's more energetic, its a fucking catchy jam, its so fuckin fun and has cool sounds. but Warm Blood makes me go fucking INSANE because there is something about this song that somehow sounds like a heart pumping warm blood. its somehow a little gross and visceral and intimate and glhkjds idk its amazing. song for vivisection.
My least favorite song on the album
All That. its just boring. sorry!
The most overrated song on the album
yeah i think you're right that its i really like you? i mean its a fucking JAM dont get me wrong i adore it and id be outraged if people didnt like it but how does it have like 4x the plays of anything else? cmon folks listen to the rest of the album
Most underrated
BLACK HEART. WHY IS NO ONE LISTENING TO BLACK HEART. half the listeners of the 2nd least listened to song! its a weirdly small number for the queen of pop! and its so WEIRD and full of beepboops and its so fun and i love the way she says "like a show on your... Tee Vee" like she's an alien
The banger of all bangers
boy problems. its gotta be boy problems. i feel like im really tracking my rating of the bangers by "would i dance in the kitchen with my loved ones" and this song is like. perfect for that omg
Rate from 0-10
8? its a WONDERFUL album, perfect pop, i own it on vinyl. It's bumped down a little bit because it is mainstream pop so not the most exciting and the slow songs really really dont do it for me. But there's so much cool stuff in it with so many different vibes and it works so well as a cohesive album and god i love this album
#asks#airshipvalentine#god this album is really good hehe#shoutouts to when i started thinking about a crj jukebox musical like 5 years ago. they should make that#the climax would be cut to the feeling and the main character would get a sword at the start of it. of course
