So I was on your fandom blog and I saw that you believe Bakugou (at least in assuming) to have ASPD. Is wondering if you could expand on that? I personally see him as NPD but I'd love to hear your side of things

first off anon bless u for being on my fandom blog that takes courage cause it’s a wicked hot mess over there lol and secondly to everyone else yes im about to spend an embarrassing amount of effort overanalyzing an anime man, no u shouldn’t apply this logic to diagnosing real people u don’t know or urself, no its not that deep but yes u can fuck right off if u wanna cry about me headcanoning ur favs with “shitty” illnesses. eat my dick.

But now down to the good shit! So I actually think bakugou has comorbid aspd/npd. But for this since u said u already see him as having npd I’ll just focus on the aspd criteria but im totally down to talk more about npd as well if u wanna. (the rest is under a cut because frankly mobile users would have drawn and quartered me otherwise)

So first im gonna go thru the dsm v criteria that are required for diagnosis that bakugou fits/exhibits (leaving out the few things that don’t pertain to him just for length and also because not every person has to fit every single criteria to qualify)

1. Significant impairments in personality as manifested by

a. identity (self esteem derived from power, pleasure, or personal gain), self direction (goal setting based on personal gratification, absence of prosocial standards and culturally normal ethical behavior)

katsukis entire sense of self is built upon his ability to “win” and to always be number one and come out on top. He absolutely cant stand to be viewed as less than that because if so, his entire sense of self begins to crumble. Part of the reason he’s so antagonistic towards Izuku in the early chapters is the fact that Izuku challenges that identity. He (unintentionally and intentionally) challenges katsuki and wont give way to him (which is the right thing to do, but we see how “well” katsuki handles that). He also doesn’t have a good sense of “prosocial standards.” katsuki has created his own internal sense of morals and values, he’s decided whats worth his time and effort based on his own opinions and not on what society deems worthwhile behavior. He’s constantly getting admonished that his attitude “isn’t that of a hero” because his values are different than the ones of the society around him. But he doesn’t care, as long as he “wins” then everythings good. And its not until he stops “winning” and his behavior begins to get in the way of his goals does he begin to realize that he has a problem.

b. impairments in interpersonal functioning as manifested by lack of empathy (lack of concern for feelings, needs, or suffering of others) and lack of intimacy (incapacity for mutually intimate relationships, use of dominance or intimidation to control others)

I could frankly write a whole essay about just this bit alone but I’ll try to condense my thoughts. So. Lets talk about katsukis lack of empathy. This boy wouldn’t know another person’s emotions if they walked up and punched him in the face. Which they do. On multiple occasions. But I digress. Katsuki is known for his shitty bedside manner, his lack of concern for the feelings of others is literally what cost him his provisional license, but aside from with Izuku (who we’ve established is a source of Baggage for katsuki and shouldn’t be counted among his normal behavior because at the start of the series they BOTH bring out the worst in one another and overcoming that is part of both of their character arcs and growth and a main theme of the damn story. Win and save. Save and win. Ahem. But again I digress) katsuki isn’t vindictive or cruel in an unnecessary way about other peoples emotions. He doesn’t use them against people, it just doesn’t occur to him that they exist. But as we see katsuki grow and begin to try and change his unhealthy behavior, we see that he’s not oblivious of others emotions in the same way todoroki is (who I headcanon as autistic along with izuku (who also has adhd), but that’s a whole nother post lol), he just doesn’t know what to do with them. He can handle things like kirishima feeling insecure, because he can logically talk to him about how strong he is to encourage and support him, but really struggles with more intimate and open forms of emotional support, like with Izuku.

He also struggles with forming prosocial bonds and friends. At the start of the series katsuki doesn’t have friends, he has lackeys he controls with intimidation and fear because he doesn’t know any other way to be. He has trust and intimacy issues and doesn’t like people getting too close to him because he feels displays of vulnerability are what makes someone weak (see those asocial morals and values we talked about earlier). After his time at UA, a few large helpings of some humble pie, and the diligent and hard work of a small group of fearless idiots (aka kaminari whose literally too prosocial for his own good and has zero self preservation instincts, and kirishima who has an endless supply of patience and understands empathy and other peoples emotions to a degree that’s baffling to me) he is able to start deconstructing that idea and realizing that u can be vulnerable and let people close to u and still be strong. That the mortifying ordeal of being known isn’t actually the worst things ever. Also that when confronted with people who aren’t actually afraid of him, he doesn’t know how else to deter them from getting close to him. The fact that none of the other kids in 1-A take katsukis shit and even go so far as to pick on him and mock him and call him out on his bullshit is a MAJOR turning point for his socialization skills.

2. pathological personality traits in the following catagories

a. antagonism, characterized by hostility (persistent and frequent angry feelings, anger or irritability in response to minor slights or insults, nasty mean vengeful behavior), callousness (lack of concern for the feelings and problems of others)

I mean. Do I even have to expand on this point? I feel like no

b. disinhibition, characterized by impulsivity (acting on the spur of the moment in response to immediate stimuli, acting without a plan or consideration for outcomes, difficulty establishing and following plans), risk taking (lack of concern for ones limitations and denial of the reality of personal danger, engaging in potentially risky and self-damaging activities without regard for consequences)

this is a criteria where u have to adjust for the world these characters are living in. but even then, by hero standards, katsuki is still impulsive. His teachers are constantly admonishing him in the early series for charging headfirst into a situation, loosing himself to his emotions and anger, and letting things get the better of him because hes not taking the time to properly assess the situation, this also bleeds into katsukis inability to work with others or ask for help. He charges headfirst into a situation by himself, blows up anything in his way, and then asks questions later. His teammates are often left totally in the dark to his plans, motives, or other moves and have to just play catch up to him the entire time. In the deku vs. kacchan 1 fight we see this behavior come out in full force. He has no plan, he blows up half the building with zero regard for their goals, and leaves iida completely in the dark. Momo pointing this all out and dragging him for filth during the recap is another wakeup moment for him, having to confront the realities of his impulsive and negative behavior whereas before he was only praised for it.

so if we take a look at even just that, which is still about ¾ of the diagnostic criteria, I think u can see where this really starts to explain his personality. Katsuki is hot headed, angry, impulsive, stubborn, selfish, he gets in his own way more often than not, he struggles with prosocial behavior, making friends, and relating emotionally to others. He has a hard time comforting people and usually does so in a blunt and logical way, he isn’t great at sympathy and being soft, kind, or gentle with other people. It takes a considerable amount of effort for him to realize where his world view and his morals and goals are warped and doing him more harm than good, and he absolutely cant stand to be vulnerable or honest about his feelings with others.

All those things, imo, as someone with aspd & npd, are what make me feel like hes a good character representation of what the complexities of living with these disorders is like. Katsuki isn’t inherently a bad person, and as we see him grow and change, we see the ways in which hes becoming better, but its still hard for him. And despite what a lot of fandom thinks, if u look at the canon, the main person katsuki hurts with his behavior is himself. And I think that’s really important because people with aspd & npd are so often catagorized as abusive villians whose only goal in life is to hurt others. Whereas with katsuki we see where these things and this kind of thinking gets in the way of his goals and ultimately hurts him. and thats what I think makes him the most relatable and makes his growth all the much more satisfying. Katsuki is both fundamentally the same and an entirely different person from when we first meet him. his personality didn’t magically completely change, hes not just a tsundere whose suddenly all mushy feely and hyper empathetic, he’s just learning how to deal with his emotions and the world and getting better at being a healthy person.

So yea, those are my thoughts! There was apparently a whole 1600 words of them so my apologies for writing u a literal dissertation on this lol I just really love this fucking character

Chopped: The 100 Fanfic Challenge

That’s right, we’re back!!! A fan fiction challenge just for writers for The 100 fandom!! If you’re new to our fun little fanfic challenge, or just need a refresher, here’s how it works!

The Challenge!

The Chopped Challenge will have four (4) rounds, three qualifying rounds and a championship round. The structure of each round will be the same.

The first three rounds will be open to anyone who would like to participate. Each of the first three rounds will have a theme that your fic must comply with, which will be announced in this post. At the start of each round, we will announce a mystery basket of four (4) random tropes pulled from this list, which must be used in your fic, and you will have a one (1) week writing period to complete your fic.

Once you finish your fic, upload to it our anonymous AO3 challenge for that round (there will be a different anonymous challenge for all four rounds). Once the week writing period is up, the challenge will be closed. We will then take a 24 hour period to compile all of the fics to create the voting poll, after which the two (2) day voting period will begin.

The voting will contain polls for the use of each individual trope, the use of the rounds theme, and a bonus poll for each round which we will determine. There will be one round that has a bonus poll for ‘best rare pair’, which we will announce at the beginning of the round. Voting will require a URL or email, and only one vote per person will be counted. Each round will also have a poll for the best cumulative use of all four tropes and the theme. The first, second, and third place winners of each poll will be announced at the end of the voting period, and the first, second, and third place winners from the cumulative polls from each of the first three rounds will have the chance to write and have their fic submitted for voting in...

The 100 Chopped Challenge Championship Round!

The final round will have the same structure as the first three rounds, but will not have a theme, and one of the tropes will be a free choice trope where the writers will use the trope of their choice in their fic. (We will open a non-anonymous challenge for this round as well, if anyone would like to write for it that did not make it in the first three rounds, and fics submitted here will not be submitted to voting.) There will be another 48 hour voting period following the championship round, and the ‘Chopped Champions’ will be announced!

Rules

This competition was created to get creative and different fics out into the world, and to create a fun, positive fandom experience for everyone! In order to ensure that we achieve that goal of a positive experience, here are a few rules and guidelines that must be followed!

The requirements for the fics entered into the competition will be:

Must be The 100

Must fit the theme of the round (for rounds 1-3)

Must use ALL of the tropes selected for each round. If you don’t use the tropes, it will result in disqualification!

All fics must be 10,000 words or less!

All ratings are welcome, G through E, but please be aware that some smut fics may not be everyone’s thing! Write what you like, but it the voting is public so just keep that in mind!

You will be disqualified if you include:

Rape!

Underage! (This means no high school AU with sex, no teacher/student if the student is underage, zero adult/under 18 relationships!)

Incest! (incest includes adopted siblings, parent/child, step siblings, biological siblings, or any familial relationship, blood related or not!).

Negativity towards any character or ship! (This includes any sort of abuse perpetrated by a character intending to paint them in a negative light, negative statements about a character intended purely to express your dislike of a character, or things of that nature.)

This is meant to be a fun and positive experience for everyone. Fluff should be fluffy. Angst should be ‘angsty’ but not traumatic. Please try and write positive and good fics. We reserve the right to disqualify anyone if we are reading and we think it violates the negativity requirement!

Remember that if you have any questions at all, including whether something would fit our trope requirements, would violate one of the rules, or anything at all, please don’t hesitate to contact me (dylanobrienisbatman) or @thelittlefanpire we are here to help!

This challenge is open to any and all ships! As of now, we are not going to separate out the more popular ships from the smaller ships, we are going to trust that you guys will vote based on the story you read rather than the ship it comes from, but we understand why some of you are wary. If you choose to vote, please try to read most of the fics, so that its fair to all the writers involved! We had no issues in our first challenge, and we hope we wont have any issues in this run either1

Okay.

So regarding the current problems in the fandom.

As you probably noticed I tried to stay out of this as much as possible. And I think I owe you an explanation as to why.

First of all: I can't really work with conflicts. I'm just not good at handling them, I don't know how to react or interact.

Second: I don't know what exactly is happening. I saw one or two posts but I haven't exactly found out how this all started and what exactly is the matter at hand. From what I've gathered so far it's about topics that have to be taken very seriously, because they affect and hurt a lot of people.

Thing is: unless I know the whole story I can't take part in the discussion, because I might miss an important detail. And I don't want to judge people without knowing all facts.

(So if anyone wants to tell me how this all started and what exactly is happening I'd be very grateful )

Third: The matters discussed are very, very important and I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings.

Fourth: due to personal circumstances I feel like I'm not qualified to take part in this discussion. Yes, ive informed myself about the matters at hand, but this is just theory. I don't know anyone who belongs into the affected groups in real life. Not because I wouldn't want to get to know someone from these groups, but because where I live there just aren't any people from those groups? ( I don't even know why though. Probably because of historical reasons? Probably also because of oppression and racism per se). So before I take part in any discussions about those topics I have to hear the views of those sides, too. And no, not from articles but from real people. (If you feel addressed feel free to tell me your opinion! I'd love to hear it so I can understand the whole topic better! )

Fifth: I don't like how impolite the discussions here are. Most of us are adults and we should be able to discuss in a civil way and try to understand the opinions of the other side without hurting each other. And yes, I mean we should even try to understand the opinions of the "wrong" side . Because:

Sixth: I've got personal experience with racism. Now you might ask: but she's as white as a sheet of paper how can she have experience with it? Well it was not me who was attacked or oppressed or anything. But one of my classmates was a racist. And I don't mean the "everyday" racist who doesn't even notice what they're saying hurts people and who doesn't have evil intentions. I mean a real "how about a genocide?" racist. And I learned two things from interacting with him (and telling him my opinion) :

First of all: he wouldn't admit he's racist even if everyone told him he was. Well, Anstieges a reason for why he didn't notice it: because:

Second: people get indoctrinated with everyday racism that usually goes unnoticed. It's just how society works. That's no reason to be racist, though. It's no excuse. But acknowledging this could help to show people who commit "soft" racism what they're doing. Those people usually don't want to hurt and don't realize that they do. So instead of accusing them of racism and driving them into a defensive position, which only makes everything worse, we should all try to understand the reasons why someone thinks what they think. If we get defensive we shut out all logic and won't listen to the arguments to the others anymore, much less try to understand them. But if we show them we don't mean them any harm it's much easier for them to open up and accept others opinions or even recognize what they themselves did wrong.

Example front real life: when we as a class shouted at our racist classmate he would get defensive, shout back and shut out any opinion except his own. Now one time I our teacher was ill and I decided to stay in the classroom and read until the next lesson would start. Our racist classmate had the same idea. So there we were sitting in awkward silence. Until he started to try and talk to me. Of course I didn't want to talk to him, but he wouldn't stop trying. So I tried to be polite and held small talk. While talking to him I noticed something that applies to many people , sadly : he was actually a decent person, who just had the misfortune of having racist assholes as parents and no other, non racist , person he could've looked up to as a child. He didn't even know why he had such an unreasonable hate towards certain ethnicities! I tried to explain to him how his ideals were wrong. And first he tried to explain himself and find excuses. But the more he tried it the more even he had to admit that his views were completely unreasonable. He actually suddenly became very silent and didn't mention as much racist things anymore until the end of the year. It helped that other people, who came into the classroom during the free period , helped with convincing him that his fanatic theories are rubbish. (We literally told him about certain historical facts and he shut up and looked like he had an existential crisis) . He even apologized for his behavior. Of course it's not like we talked to him and just "cleansed" him of his racism , but I think that on that day we all might have showed him that those opinions are hurtful and it certainly helped to show him where his racist ideas come from (aka, his parents and family).

What I'm saying is, that we should try to be polite and understand not the beliefs of people who are acting oppressing , but where these beliefs come from. Sometimes (not everytime) it's not the persons fault that they don't notice they're hurtful, it's societies .

( PS.: while playing Choices I noticed that this indoctrination even affected myself. When I first played the freshman I had doubts about having James as an LI. Which was weird for me, because his personality is the one I'd prefer the most out of the Freshman LIs. So I thought about why I had those doubts and noticed that it had to do with the image of certain people being "unattractive" that's been punched into our minds by society over centuries . And after realizing this I told myself : well, f*ck those stupid ideals of society! (Okay maybe not explicitly like that but you get what I mean) . So yeah, I chose him as the LI for my MC, because his personality is honestly the most appealing out of the Freshman LIs and I think the personality is the only thing that should count in these cases. )

Whoo, that was a lot. But I just couldn't stay silent, Im sorry.

And no matter which side you belong to, I hope you stay polite and try to understand the reasons for why we all act like we act. Understanding each other is the first step towards resolving this conflict. It won't help to shout and accuse. And I know it's hard and might hurt a lot, but we have to try at least.

If you felt hurt by anything I said I'm truly sorry. In such a case please tell me in which way you felt hurt and I'll consider your arguments and revoke my hurtful statement.

I was told reading Philosophical problems with blah blah blah would answer why making 500 genders would solve gender stereotypes I am petty and affable so I read it

the TLDR is : this drivel doesnt mention the problems of gender stereotypes or neogenders at all its just some guy wanking on why women need to give up their spaces because he thinks their wrong and annoying ( Kathleen Stock especially)

I’d love to @ you lake-lady, but you blocked me for thought crimes and im to lazy to try to get around that ( if you actually read this before recommending it to me, you are very very strong and very very brainwashed)

the first 14 paragraphs are circle talk "GC feminists are wrong, i will prove their wrong, they think "this" it is wrong ill prove its wrong etc etc etc" if you survive that that, They focus on Kathleen Stock in their words "Stock presents an articulate, relatively comprehensive, and moderate form of gender-critical feminism" first: If Margie’s self-diagnosis (“I’m a boy”) is questioned by the therapist, the therapist can be construed as . . . “converting” . . . a trans child to a “cis” one. If, on the other hand, Margie’s self-diagnosis is affirmed unquestioningly, the therapist is effectively failing to affirm Margie in a sexual orientation of lesbianism; something which also looks like conversion by omission. (Stock, 2018e) -They spend 5 paragraphs explaining why Stocks hypothetical girl^ isnt converted to male heterosexualness by transitioning, and not affirming Marges Gender identity is Dangerous They do not address Stocks ACTUAL concern that Gender Affirming Therapy without any kind of therapy and research on GNC and SSA children is conversion by omission because it doesnt take into account if these feelings stem from gender stereotypes and homophobia. Stocks is not concerned that you are converting this girl straight( sex is real she would be SSA either way) she is concerned your transitioning her without affirming her sexuality and giving her support in the knowledge that being a lesbian is okay and perfectly normal.-

Next: concern about female-only spaces is about legal self-identification without any period of “living as a woman,” prior male socialisation in a way which exacerbates the tendency to violence against female bodies, and the fact that many self-identifying trans women . . . retain both male genitalia and a sexual orientation towards females. The classical example is marriage—in the act of declaring a couple married, a celebrant brings about a change in their normative status, provided the celebrant is the right person in the right circumstances. This presupposes a normative background (that is a set of laws, conventions, or other rules) governing all those matters: who qualifies as a legitimate celebrant, what the right circumstances are for the performative to do its work, what marriage status means in terms of spouses’ rights and obligations, etc.

Stock (2018b) has also argued that trans inclusion on the ground of self-identification/declaration threatens “a secure understanding” of concepts intimately related to “woman”—namely, “female” and “lesbian.” It is hard to see this threat as a real one. After all, conceptually, “trans maleness” and “trans femaleness” presuppose “cis maleness” and “cis femaleness” as their other—namely, the case of female and male for which no transition, no reaching across, is required: the case of femaleness and maleness already on this side of (= “cis”) their sex.

Stock (2019b) argues, correctly, that “sex [i.e., maleness and femaleness] is not determined by any single, unitary set of essential criteria,” and that “there is no single set of features a person must have in order to count as male or female.” She goes on to state that: (a) “you do still need to possess some” female (biological) sex characteristics to count as female; (b) that this is “a real, material condition upon sex-category-membership”; and (c) that “medical professionals [assigning sex]. . . rely upon an established methodology, aimed at capturing pre-existing biological facts” (Stock 2019b). Stock presents (a), (b), and (c) as if they were true without qualification. In fact, they only describe how, for very legitimate reasons, sex is understood and assigned within the discourses of biology and medicine; but our everyday usages of “male” and “female” may well be more capacious. It does not follow, of course, that there is no connection at all between these discursive domains—biology and the everyday. Rather, something like the biological meaning of “male” and “female” refer to the central cases of “male” and “female” as those terms feature in everyday usages. But those usages, if trans-inclusive (as they should be), will also cover, legitimately and usefully, noncentral cases of those selfsame terms.

-Yes you need to be female to be female, it doesnt matter what you look like how much you weigh your hobbies or tastes you just need to be female. Observed Biology is observed not assigned we dont pop out blank slates until someone says "ya this ones a girl"-

There really is no good reason to fear that such trans-inclusive practices will imperil “maleness” and “femaleness” as concepts. It is the very fact that those concepts have and will retain central cases that puts to rest any such fear. What makes something like the biological meanings of “male” and “female” the central cases of everyday usages of those words is “[o]rdinary-life truth seeking, a certain level of which is essential for survival”; this “involves a swift instinctive testing of innumerable kinds of coherence against innumerable kinds of extra-linguistic data” (Murdoch, 1992). Reproduction is a key aspect of human experience: The existence of each of us and the perpetuation of the human species presuppose it. The extra-linguistic reality of the dioecious configuration of human bodies, which is functional to human reproduction, means both that the concept of “female” and “male” are here to stay, and that their central cases will remain well-understood, even after we give up on trans-exclusionary attitudes, practices, and policies. To put it another way: trans-inclusive linguistic usages, policies, and so on, cannot threaten the distinction between the concepts of “male” and “female,” which hinges on the nondisposability of the central cases of those concepts.

For similar reasons, it is difficult to agree with Stock that characterizing as “gay” trans men attracted to men, and as “lesbian” trans women attracted to women, “leaves us with no linguistic resources to talk about that form of sexual orientation that continues to arouse the distinctive kind of bigotry known as homophobia” (Stock, 2019d). After all, our linguistic conventions make cissexual womanhood and manhood the central or paradigmatic cases of “womanhood” and “manhood”; cissexual (though not necessarily gender-conforming) lesbianism and male homosexuality the central or paradigmatic cases of “lesbianism” and “male homosexuality,” and so on. This will not change. First because of the prevalence of cissexual women/men and cissexual lesbians/gay men, in terms of sheer numbers, relative to trans women/men and trans lesbians/gay men. Second, because of the ways in which the concepts of “man,” “woman,” “gay,” “lesbian,” “cis,” and “trans” sit together with the concepts of “male” and “female,” which reference an extra-linguistic reality, of which, as we have already seen, we cannot but take notice. Given these linguistic and empirical facts, a trans-inclusive use of the terms “lesbian” and “gay” does not carry the dangers Stock (2019d) worries about.

-I keep going back and checking the date this was published in 2020 clearly this man has neither been online except to stalk Stock, nor talked to a human who actually believes what he is arguing against. No one is mad at transwoman for liking woman or vise versa its the kind of woman and men they go after and EXPECT romance and validation from ( ie lesbians and gay men, ie threatening what lesbian and gay mean in "inclusive" climates) fucking knob.-

Home insurance wants to raise dwelling coverege?

I purchased a townhome in March of 2013 for $183k in Florida. It is in a 200-unit subdivision that just completed all construction and sold out all last remaining units a few months ago. When I signed up for home insurance, the insurance company set my dwelling coverage to $183k. I told them that it isn't accurate for them to base dwelling coverage on market price because the replacement cost must be lower since market price includes land and profits the builder makes. Long story short, they convinced me to stay at $183 because they said costs were rising and so forth. I decided not to fight it. Fast forward to this year, and now they are proposing to increase the dwelling coverage to $203k (11% increase). Funny thing is that for my exact townhome model, about 20 units were sold in the last year with prices averaging in the upper $180s (slightly above what I paid). I called the insurance company to let them have a piece of my mind, and they told me they use an independent 3rd party company to price the replacement costs. I told them it's BS because it's way above average market price and replacement costs is always below market price. They asked me to send them documents from when I purchased the home that details the construction materials used and upgrades so that they can reevaluate the dwelling coverage. My question is, why is the burden of proof on me to prove to the insurance company that dwelling coverage should be lowered? Why can't they just reduce it to what I tell them to reduce it to? After all, I am the customer who pays for the insurance. If my house is ever destroyed and I underinsured, that's my problem not theirs. I just find it strange that I'm paying for an insurance service and the insurance company decides what the replacement cost is, not me. Even though it doesn't affect them.""
