#what we’re presented with makes sense from a ‘costuming an actor’ standpoint but not ‘this is a knight undertaking a perilous journey’#and the official reference material I found presents his… undertunic/hauberk combo as What Boromir Wore vs what was designed for Sean Bean#which is on one hand soooo funny bc it fully implies Boromir rode on a MONTHS-LONG PERILOUS JOURNEY to figure out what was going on w his#prophetic dreams and THEN set out with the fellowship to protect a dude carrying an Accursed Object knowing full well some Fuck Shit was#gonna happen. all the while going ‘yes protecting my arms but not All Of My Vital Organs makes perfect sense’#im Sorry to whoever wrote that book but HE IS A CAPTAIN OF GONDOR USED TO RIDING INTO BATTLE IN FULL PLATE#MY GUY WOULD NOT SET OUT WITH NO TORSO ARMOR. DISEMBOWELLED YOURE PRETTY FUCKING SCREWED#so anyways I’m stubbornly sticking with my ‘he was in a short gambeson and split hauberk’ stance bc BOROMIR SON OF DENETHOR STEWARD PRINCE#OF GONDOR would not ride into Dangers Unknown without protecting his heart/lungs/stomach/intestines/etc#and also bodkin arrowheads can separate maile and the orcs use similar enough arrows that a hauberk isn’t gonna do much at all#so it still all adds up. unfortunately
