KILLING FREDDIE wasn't an exercise of control. bedelia had been different. will had wanted her to suffer, look her fate in the eye before she'd been done away with. (he'd enjoyed getting to touch hannibal in front of her. hadn't overdone it, doesn't NEED to flaunt their love for bedelia to understand he'd won in that regard. she'd known it before will knew. but it was still a point of pride to hold his hand when they sat at the table with her.)

but there was no story to be told with freddie, no neat resolution that he craved. she had been NOTHING but rude, incessant, chatty— even now that he could smell her vegetarian blood, his lip curls with anger as he thinks of what she'd been in life. and he doesn't flinch from the gore before him. will is HERE, present, claiming his own design which... evidently, involved a boning knife, stars looking down on her, and watching her crawl through the mud. will's not yet done soaking in the moment when he staggers to his feet, the HIGH dilating his pupils, despite the calm washed over him. the world is more of a home to him now. he needed this done.

the stars hadn't been the only witness for her screams. will hears hannibal's footsteps through the brush, allows him to approach. a touch to his cheek helps him stay grounded as he reels though the endorphins. hannibal looks as breathless as will feels, smearing the blood across his face with a reverent touch. will closes his eyes to it, relaxes into the moment, listens to the world and finds peace knowing that her breath is not among the noisiness. then—

"fuck," he sighs, rolling his eyes. "i should've used an axe." cheeky smile takes a hold of him, knowing that hannibal will find the same morbid delight in this. "...could've been one last hatchet job for freddie lounds."
