I Love NY. Un icono de casi 50 años Corría el año 1977 cuando Milton Glaser recibió el encargo de diseñar un símbolo que permitiera promocionar el turismo en la Gran Manzana. Eran años difíciles, en los que la ciudad atravesaba una grave crisis financiera y registraba un alarmante índice de criminalidad. En contraposición a este turbio contexto nació el famoso I Love NY. El emblema era perfecto. Limpio, amable, sencillo. Inmediatamente, el estilo pop y desenfadado del nuevo icono no tardó en quedarse grabado en el imaginario colectivo. I Love NY es uno de los mejores ejemplos de marca de ciudad existentes hoy. Ha sido el símbolo de la ciudad durante casi 50 años, como un emblema querido por los propios neoyorquinos y visitantes foráneos. ¿Por qué cambiarlo entonces? Si funciona, ¿por qué cambiarlo? Las autoridades de Nueva York han decidido llevar a cabo una nueva campaña que busca impulsar el turismo en la Gran Manzana después de tres complicados años de pandemia. Y para ello, se ha visto en la tesitura de tener que sustituir el icónico emblema diseñado por Milton Glaser, I Love NY. En realidad, no es un cambio radical. Más bien se trata de una modificación del logotipo original de Glaser. Una evolución de lo individual —yo— a lo colectivo —nosotros—. El objetivo principal es hacer una campaña de movilización a todas aquellas personas que aman Nueva York para dar a conocer lo que hace única a esta ciudad y revitalizarla en todos los sentidos. Sistema de emojis La comunicación gráfica de la campaña se apoya en el uso de los emojis. Dado el carácter internacional de una ciudad, con cientos de idiomas, se ha considerado que estos símbolos internacionales son entendidos en cualquier tipo de cultura. La agencia independiente Founders Agency se ha desarrollado una colección de emoticonos representativos de la ciudad. Pour le petit cours d'histoire, Milton Glaser (1929 - 2020) était un graphiste et designer américain de renom. Cofondateur du studio Push Pin Studios, il a été une figure majeure du design graphique dans les années 1950 et 1960 et est connu pour ces celebres oeuvres comme le logo mondialement connu "I ♥ NY" ou encore l'affiche de Bob Dylan pour l'album "Greatest Hits". Il a reçu des récompenses prestigieuses, dont le National Medal of Arts en 2009 et sa contribution sans fin au design graphique continue d'influencer la profession. Ces célèbres citations reflètent sa philosophie et son approche du design, mettant l'accent sur la créativité, la clarté et le travail acharné.
