We had a blast tonight at #REELScience Starship Troopers @cedarleetheatre hosted by entomologist and Invertebrate Zoology Collections Manager Dr. Nicole Gunter! For such an occasion, we even brought a really "BIG bug" with us, #Bathynomus giganteus: a benthic (deep sea) isopod from the museum. "Roly pollies" or "pill bugs" that you probably played with as a kid are their terrestrial (land-dwelling) cousins. Arthropods have never been quite as large as the "bugs" in Starship Troopers, but the Earth had and still has incredibly large invertebrates such as the coconut crab (Birgus latro) and the now extinct giant millipede, #Arthropleura. Wagamama! I love this place. First time I went was in Boston. They have amazing vegan options, including a full vegan menu. This was my first time trying their vegan katsu curry. The dish is seitan coated in crispy panko breadcrumbs, covered in an aromatic curry sauce with sticky white rice and a dressed side salad. Loved it!

And then I was off! First up: the Sedgwick Museum of Earth and Science.

I roamed around Cambridge and checked out several of the museums. Check out this cool program on Bridging Binaries. More museums in the UK are making efforts to include LGBTQ+ focused programming. I didn’t have a chance to attend any of these events in 2019 and I expect there won’t be any on in 2020, but here’s hoping for stellar events in 2021.

One of the exhibits at the University of Cambridge was Beggarstaffs. Have to love the Dandy and the Lady. 

As I was wondering around Cambridge I also walked around on the college green (literally. So much green!) at Downing College. It’s spacious. Very, very spacious! 

One of the most relaxing moments was finding this Heong gallery.

So glad I decided to wander.

Michael Sweerts, Head of a Woman, 1654 @gettymuseum Sweerts, a devout christian, was interested in the poor and downtrodden of society. After painting portraits of wealthy patrons he'd go to the streets of Rome to find very different subjects. This small unassuming painting really caught me. My fave. Jar found amongst the wreckage of Galleon San Diego. Most jars are of the white and blue Chinese pottery and porcelain. This stood out with its green lead glaze. Visit the National Museum of Anthropology along Finance Road in Manila to see more and learn. Entrance is free of charge.
