Fire!

For millennia, every night act,

every moonlight rendezvous,

every unlikely resurrection, every

body snatched, daughter seduced,

or temple plundered, every dark

deed better left covered by cloak

of nature was done by firelight.

Now, flame has been reduced to

a pale shadow of itself, reserved

for romantic dinners and birthday

cakes, porch-pit beer drinking or

roasting marshmallows, igniting

large effigies at rock concerts to

the delightful shrieks of hippies.

I say, next time you need to hide

a body or steal your neighbor’s

gnome, sneak into your lover’s

bedroom or catch your cheating

wife, if you wish to add an extra

level of gravitas to the proceedings,

bring a fucking torch. Guaranteed.

Well tonight is on me. I missed a spin jam I’d been looking forward to cause I didn’t stick it in my calendar with an alarm and I generally know better.
