Je profite d'une photo prise au château de Villandry, vendredi de la semaine dernière, pour vous souhaiter un bon week-end 😊! Visite du château écourtée malheureusement parce qu' une de mes résidentes a fait un malaise. .. C'était la première fois que cela m'arrivait avec une résidente et j'ai très bien géré heureusement. Outlander!  The book series is just the thing we women need to solidify our crushes on incredibly handsome, strong, virile highlander men!  Oh my!  Well, just so you know, Falkland is not in Outlander, but it is used as a backdrop for the TV series.  Paula is a HUGE Outlander fan!

After leaving St. Andrews, we headed to Falkland.   The original site of Falkland Castle now lies within the grounds of the present Falkland Palace .  It was granted a Royal Burgh in 1458. Falkland was a medieval settlement that depended on Falkland Palace.  It is the birthplace of the 17th century Covenanter Richard Cameron who was a schoolmaster in the village before he became a preacher.  The house he lived in is still standing on the main street of the village. 

John, Marquis of Bute inherited most of the land in the late 19th century.  He restored a large part of the village, that included the Palace.  In the South Atlantic, by South America, the Falkland Islands are named after Anthony Cary, 5th Viscount Falkland.

Paula and I enjoyed ourselves, having some lunch and a lovely coffee at Campbells Coffee House

then we toured the Palace and took in the scenery.  It was really interesting to see how the Royals relaxed, here at this Palace they had tennis courts!

We had a busy day, to say the least.  Dressed for the weather as the Scottish weather is very unpredictable, but predictable to know it could rain at any time!  

If you can, take the time to visit Falkland.  It is a wonderful village with much to offer and see.  It is not just famous for the Outlander series, but I must say I am sure the tourism has increased since the show has aired.
