It's warm.. really warm, why is it warm? i cant remember.. ah! it's so bright.. huh? i can't open my eyes? what's happening? "gosh.. it's so damn bright! ugh.." i tried to open my eyes but failed - what was happening? - "Oh wow.. where am i? and what am i feeling? am i on a bed?" No, why am i caring about that right now? Where am i first.. I tried to open my eyes but failed, but after a few failed attempts to open my eyes i finally did it! but before i could see anything the bright light hit my face! that stupid sun. I needed to hide my face before i was blinded by the lights, i used both of my hands to search for something i could cover my face with, then i came across something soft. I quickly hid my face into whatever i got- it was soft! - was it a pillow? i slowly opened my eyes, scared i was going to get blinded by the lights and yep, i was correct it was a pillow! but.. one that was familiar, even though i've never felt it until now nor bought it. Where have i seen that before? ugh my head hurts.. Before i could comprehend anything else i was cut off by a voice. "Princess!! You're awake!! Oh thank the archons! I'll call the head mistress right away miss!" i froze. - did she just call me.. princess? - "princess..? what princess?", I slowly rose up to see where i was at. As soon as i looked at my surrounding, my eyes glistened in amazement! the place was huge! there were long tables filled with books and quills, large round red lanterns that had a warm aura, and the bed.. the bed was so soft! white sheets that felt like feather, the pillows had a flower print on it - it felt like it was embroidered. Then i looked down, my clothing! they dont feel.. like what i had on last time? - wait what? last time, what was i wearing last time? how come i can't remember? - before i could even think or say anything else i heard multiple shoes clacking on the floor, as i listened in i realized that those sounds are coming closer and closer towards the room i was in! what the hell was going on? "Oh archons!! It's true! Princess Illuminea has woken up, call King Arthur and Queen Eleanor!!" - who's princess Illuminea? - "Right away miss!" Before i knew it the older lady ran to my side, she put her finger on my chin and lifted it up, turning my chin right and left, i suppose she checking if i was hurt or not. "Princess!! Are you in pain? Dont worry, your mother and father will be here soon". My eyes stared into hers, her eyes were practically staring into my soul. She looked so concern about my wellbeing.. i was worried. was this a dream? why am i being called Princess Illuminea? my name is not Illuminea! it's y/n!! After a few seconds of me and this "head mistress" staring at each other, i heard the door open - then followed a couple of gasps and cries. I turned my head to the direction of the noise and that's when i saw 2 people running towards me, i let out a yelp when one of them ran to my side and started to cry, burying her head in my lap. Who were they even? "Oh Illuminea!! Oh how we missed u.. - sniffs- me and your father was worried, we thought that you were going to never wake up... ever". I was stunned, I was Illuminea? That name was so familiar, why? i feel like i've heard that name before. But my stupid brain wont work!! Ugh come on... please! "Please tell me my dear!! Why'd you jump into the lake?! Are you crazy?! Do you want to leave mother and father?.." i looked at the woman in disbelief - what? i jumped into a lake? who would do that.. - either way, i was disturbed. First, i woke up in a random place, then the "head mistress" looked at me really concerned and her eyes scared me, then 2 people who are my so called "mother and father" are crying and sobbing and saying weird stuff!! "Uhm.. excuse me mother and father but uh, who are you exactly?" i asked while looking at my "mother" then looking up to see my "father" - i saw both of their weeping face come to an end. Their eyes looked into mine but this time with horror, my eyebrows twitched while i looked at my "mother" who was now sobbing even more furiously.

My "father" looked at me but this time it was with horror, his eyebrows furrowed and more tears started to appear. What on earth was happening?

i‘m not that into series at all lately, so i don‘t have a series that i‘ve read and didn‘t like that everyone else loves. maybe illuminea? i have no interest in reading that but it‘s pretty loved by everyone who has read it

Illuminae Spoil Free Book Review

Illuminae

Genre: Science fiction, Young Adult fiction 

Illuminea is a very fun book about a race between four spaceships. Three of them, the battle carrier Alexander, the science vessel Hypatia, and the freighter Copernicus, are full of refugees from Kerenza IV after BeiTech Industries attacked. The fourth ship, the Lincoln, is hunting them down because they are the only witnesses to the atrocity that happened on Kerenza IV. If that weren't enough, at the same time the refugees have a malfunctioning AI and an outbreak of a deadly plague on board as well.

Going beyond the plot, the characters are also very enjoyable and fleshed out, even some of the smaller side characters feel real with distinct personalities adding another layer to the story. For our main characters we have Kady, who is a very talented hacker who just wants to know the truth about what's going on. She hates that the people in charge don't give out the full truth, keeping some information from the refugees on board. Then there is her ex-boyfriend Ezra. Now Ezra is very different from Kady. He is very sporty and much more of a team player. So while Kady doesn't trust anyone, Ezra just hates BeiTech and what's this whole thing to be done.

The format of the book is also very fun and was the first thing that drew me in when I saw it at the store. The whole story is told through documents. You have transcribed conversations, emails, direct messaging, pictures and diagrams, sometimes there are web searches and notes attached to the documents. There are also video files that are transcribed by an unknown voice who is clearly not a professional. The narrator has a way of lighting up darker parts of the story and will sometimes skip over grosser parts. They also react to what is going on with you which is interesting where they might be sad or angry or just cracking jokes. In all I think the format helped the digestibility of this story since there were so many degrees of separation from the events of the story. It helps with the grief and PTSD of the characters not also crushing the reader or slowing the story down to deal with those feelings.

Overall, I absolutely loved the story. The plot keeps you on your toes and the characters are so dynamic that they feel real. The authors also found a fun medium for the story to help readers understand some of the more complex parts of the story and skip over information that isn't very necessary.
