Ok! So the enchanting table language is called galactic, and it sucks. Its not actually a conlang its more of a cypher thing? Which makes this easier so let me get a pic of this horrendous alphabet

Why is this horrible, you ask? Many, many reasons.

1, none of them have any identifiable meanings. They’re all just random symbols. One thats always bothered me is h. To me, that looks like the wither. Why is on h, then? If they were basing the letters on words that already existed (which is pretty common and a p natural way for written language to progress), shouldnt the symbol for h actually be used for w?

The letters also have a noticable similarity to latin letters, I notice this most in i, w (triple upstroke, triple dots), f, x, u, and y. They aren’t super noticable, but once you see it, it’s difficult to unsee.

2, theyre hard to read from a distance. Many of them look almost exactly the same, which is a common problem but still a problem. The worst letters for this are i & j, z & y, w & u, s & c, f & u, and a few others.

3, the use of dots. Oh, how i hate dots in writing. How many people do you know actually dot all of their i’s & j’s? Not many. Its much, much faster to use one (or two) strokes when writing, and many people who write fast or take notes have a half cursive, half print handwriting, because the concept of not taking ones pencil off the paper is a faster way of writing. Having letters that use a dot is fine, but making that dot necessary and the letter common is,,,a pain. I know that the ë, ö, ä, all of those are letters, but thats only a few letters out of the alphabet.

Galactic? Four of the letters are made of dots (r, w, j, i). Could you imagine trying to write, and having to make dots in the form of a square? Poor enchanters. Many other letters require the use of dots to differentiate different letters, the most notible being n & o, and k & l. The whole alphabet has only 9 letters without a dot, and many of those (4) require one to lift their pencil when writing. Again, having parts of a letter not connect isnt unheard of, but it does make differentiate between letters difficult.

Something that makes the latin alphabet nice is that every (or, almost every) letter has an easy way of seeing how the letter should go. Theres usually a clear path that a pen could take, and many of the letters start on the left and end on the right, making writing much quicker. Galactic doesn’t have that at all. Even ignoring the monstrosity that is r, many of the letters have little to no path. Take a look at h, how is one to write that without backtracking several times? Same with b, its just an awkward shape.

Now, onto the redesign!

A few of these have meanings I think relates to minecraft.

D is meant to look a bit like a head on view of elytra/ dragon wings

E is meant to look like the eye of ender/ endermens eyes, or the elder guardians eye. Lots of eye symbolism in e

G is a ghast tear or a guardian eye, you choose

O is for ocean

P should look like a potion bottle

R is for redstone connecting together/ redstone currents

W is wither. Yes i was salty abt h having this one and put in here just because of that.

These arent all of them, but theyre the ones i remember the most. You’ll notice that a few of them do use dots (k & o) but k is not the most common of letters, and the dot above the o is 1 a feature in many languages (ö) and 2 an easy addition, start the letter at the top, do a clockwise circle, and when unreach the top again, u do the dot. Pretty simple. K is only one dot, not f o u r (looking at you, r), which means that even though it isnt perfect, its what we have and its better than galactic.

I know q & m are similar, but so are u and v in the latin alphabet. Too bad. Live mad about it, they’re different enough

This system is actually pretty easy to write in, most of the letters are easy on the hand (except for e, god i regret making it like that. But its what we have and its not too bad when u get used to it). I also have punctuation and a bit of numbers made for this system, but yea this is long enough.

"Reblog" - ok this one's p self-explanatory but it's what i tag the posts i reblog with! It's... a tad useless bc 95% of my blog is reblogging but! I've done it for so long it doesn't feel right to just stop dattebayo

"Reblog to spread the word" - these are mainly used on informative posts? But can also be used on posts that are like "hey i hope u have a good day today and u deserve good things" bc i feel that way abt nyall :> oh and it can also b used as a tag for things that are too light-hearted to put in save a life!

"Reblog to save a life" - thsse are posts w p heavy topics! Donation posts also fall into this category bc i kno they can make some feel guilty as they can't donate, n i wanted to put that stuff into a neat lil tag.

"Spread them commissions like butter on bread" - my commissions tag! I rb a lot of commission posts, so if u ever feel generous n donate some muns, then hop into that tag or save a life to find some peeps to throw ur money at!!

"Long Post" - i don't use this one often but i use it for posts that require me to lazily scroll 2+ times to get to the bottom of it! For conveniency, if peeps don't wanna open that can of worms. Oh, and this one can be requested to add to a post! Not sure if i ever said that ('v')b

"Ryu ga Gotoku" - would u believe me if i said that i made this entire post just to use this point sjfjskf but yaya!! I'm gonna b using this title for the Yakuza game series as i feel it's gonna become a Big interest of mine as time goes on skfjsjf

Thank you for coming to my rules page! I'd appreciate it if you could read over these to prevent future misunderstandings.

This is a Solas roleplay blog. Solas is a character from the latest Dragon Age game, Dragon Age: Inquisition. He plays a large role in the story, and thus this blog will be spoiler heavy. If you have not finished DA:I (and all its DLC) then please take caution when you follow this blog. I don't tag spoilers for any DA:I content and I would hate to spoil anyone.

I will only be roleplaying with mutuals for the foreseeable future. Starter ask memes may be turned into threads, but please make a separate post!

I will roleplay with multiples and do not practise exclusivity for either Player Characters or Canons. I have mains whose interpretations/universes I default to so that I can write in a semi-consistent universe. All duplicates I roleplay with exist in different universes.

i am singleship

This is the "(mostly)" part of the "not exclusive thing." On this blog I only ship with Iander Lavellan and am closed off for romantic ships. I am, however, incredibly interested in developing non-romantic ships- both positive and negative. As Ian is a companion OC and not Inquisitor, he exists in my Solas's universe regardless.

i reserve the right to follow & unfollow as i choose

This blog is not follow-for-follow. I like to keep my dash relatively slow moving. As mentioned, I do try to keep the opportunity for non-mutuals to roleplay with me or chat.

As for unfollowing (or soft blocking) I won't usually explain why, usually it's one of these couple reasons:

Inactivity (the main one tbh - if I see you're back I'll refollow!)

Offensive material (homophobia, transphobia, racism, sexism, etc)

Untagged Negativity / Vagueblogging (it makes me anxious)

Untagged character hate (especially Solas or Merrill hate)

As one final note on following: I don't send in passwords. I promise I read your rules before initiating interaction.

Don't use me as a meme resource. Not all IC memes will work for two characters, so if it doesn't fit feel free to reblog. But OOC memes, symbols or asks you can send out of character, which require no interaction to send. I don't care if we're not mutuals, and I promise if you send me something I'll check to see if you reblogged it and send you something in return. I'm not a big fan of the "reblog from source" solution for non-mutuals, I just... pls. Send me something.

on messaging

I will not roleplay using Tumblr's IM system and prefer not to roleplay on IM platforms (Discord, etc) period. Feel free to message me OOC, it's open regardless of whether or not I follow you.

i'm open to any format

Banter, para, multi-para, novella are all possible. I prefer to reserve longer threads for plotted or intense interactions, and shorter threads for more casual roleplays b/c otherwise there's way too much navel gazing. Shorter threads are also much more likely to get timely replies.

I don't format beyond small text, and will roleplay with you regardless of whether you do or don't format yourself. I do use 100x100 icons (except in specific AUs where I have no icons to speak of), but am open to iconless roleplay if you don't use them.

My Solas Interpretation

I've been roleplaying Solas 3+ years at the time of writing, and I've expanded upon his interpretation over this time. Here are probably some of the most important things to know about my interpretation.

some notes for elvhenan-era characters

Please at least skim this post especially if you roleplay a character with knowledge of Fen'Harel.

If you roleplay an evanuris, please do not assume Solas is your friend! This has become less of a problem since Trespasser, but I'm keeping this just in case. He has no love for the evanuris (save Mythal) and will just want to fight you.

I am open to discussion so our interpretations of Elvhenan better match, but there are some things I'm not interested in changing. If you diverge from canon in a way that rewrites the evanuris as wholly benign and erase slavery from the narrative entirely, then we're not compatible.

some notes for everyone else

Do not suspect Solas of being Fen'Harel without my permission! He is canonically very careful with his identity. The exception to this will be Elvhenan-era characters, but even in those cases don't just sweep in and out him.

My Solas was not Solas first. What I mean by this is, he had several names before choosing the name Solas. I headcanon that Elvhenan elves had a pretty fluid view of names, similar to how Abelas likely was not the name that character was born with. That being said Solas is his real name.

My Solas is queer. He is panromantic, asexual, and agender. My reasoning for roleplaying him as such can be read here, but tl;dr there is no such thing as a cishet in Elvhenan.

As stated previously, he is in a canon relationship with the companion OC Iander Lavellan. I don't expect you to know the ins and outs of their relationship by any means, but it is common knowledge within the Inquisiton. You can read a summary of their relationship story here.

I write the events of Inquisition as having played out over the course of about three years rather than the canon one. My default Inquisitor does both Jaws of Hakkon and The Descent prior to the end of the game.

I've tweaked Solas's behaviour during What Pride Had Wrought to flow better. You can find a more detailed description here.

In canon Solas says some very bigoted stuff about dwarves and qunari. This holds true for my Solas, but I tend to write him as developing/learning better throughout the course of DA:I (which is supported in part by canon, but due to banter it comes across inconsistently). This isn't to say he's cured of his racism b/c it is always an ongoing process, but that he's aware enough to try to check himself.

His ultimate goal is to tear down the Veil and use his powers as a Dreamer to reshape the world to create a future for the elves/spirits- and, more specifically, the rebels he fought with before the creation of the Veil.

As one final note please refrain from making egg jokes at him or me. I'm so tired.

HOW LONG (MONTHS/YEARS?): 13 years, give or take a year PLATFORMS YOU’VE USED: In rough order: Neopets forums, email, deviantArt notes, deviantArt chat, msn, skype, tumblr, discord. BEST EXPERIENCE: Approaching a writer on deviantArt and asking them to roleplay was how I made friends with a woman who would eventually become my first partner - we never met and likely never will since I broke off contact, but that friendship carried me through a really hard time in my life. Honestly though? This blog is quickly ranking up there - I’ve never met so many people through one avenue who are excited to write with me! It feels like every time I hit a lull a new opportunity or mun pops up and whoops, here I am for the ride again.  Not to mention playing McCree is knocking a lot of things off my general roleplay bucket list.

[ WRITING  PREFERENCES]

FLUFF, ANGST OR SMUT?: All of the above? I come to the RPC to exercise my story telling muscles and explore the relationship my muse has with other muses above all else, and a healthy mix of three is really good for that. If I had to choose though fluff rules over all, since those cute moments are absolutely the basis for great relationships. (I do enjoy smut a lot, especially exploring a more kinky dynamic between two muses in and out of scenes? But argh, I still feel that saying that implies I prefer it, or has weird connotations I am not about. I have several muses I interact with where I’m perfectly fine with interactions ending in fade-to-black and then I have others that would have middle aged white woman clutching their pearls. It’s all about chemistry with muns, down to the topic of conversation yeah?) PLOTS OR MEMES: Memes are amazing for first time interactions, especially since I can be quite shy at approaching? And generally once me and a mun have gone back and forward a few times memes kind of sprawl out into their own thing, or inspire a adjacent thread in a similar way regular plotting would. That being said, I get little hearts in my eyes when a mun comes to me with ideas or they jump on an idea I present, so probably preference to plotting. There’s a reason I reblog so many memes though! LONG OR SHORT REPLIES: Long is where my heart is, but I can really struggle to get replies out to those reliably i am so sorry so shorter things really bridge the gap. My happy place is probably 2-3 paragraphs, since its enough meat in a reply to get really excited over, but it’s not too daunting to reply to. BEST TIME TO WRITE: Late at night, but only because that's when I have time usually. I’m pretty sure I’ve written replies at every hour of the day :’D ARE YOU LIKE YOUR MUSE(S): For me to really click with a muse I have to relate to them in some way, so I can properly see through their eyes and write their train of thought so I absolutely think there are some similarities. His independence and romanticism of life are things I empathise with greatly, and there are smaller things too like his love of nicknames and charisma. Other things still, like his easy going nature and flirtatious ways are traits I have but have exaggerated for him. Still, I’m several years younger than canon McCree so there’s a worldliness I can’t always bring to his character, and in general I think I run a... Softer? McCree than canon has characterised him as. Not to mention I struggle to get into that angry-at-the-world, all bark and bite character that we see in Blackwatch, but I credit that to not writing that period as often. tl;dr he’s fun to write and I’m not stopping anytime soon :D

My response:

JRO have six children and four relationships to balance. There's most likely going to be some scheduling involved. Some might leave things to chance and inclination, but many people in polyamorous relationships do this. There's a lot of communication and often a lot of intentionality. This is, of course, different for every relationship(s). But even couples do this, especially once children come into the picture.

I don't imagine JRO started out that organized, but as children came along, and in the interest of fairness, this was the system that worked for them. They do leave room for spontaneity and flexibility, as illustrated by R leaving J&O to themselves even though it was unplanned. Of course, he also becomes jealous, but those sorts of things will invariably pop up too (and are not always logical), which brings us back to communication.

It’s a sleep schedule, yes. :P But woohoo often goes along with that. But then again, often it doesn’t. They're certainly not doing that every single night of the week. Well, maybe Ripp would be. haha.
