During the 31st year of Seika, the battle between the Library Force and the Media Improvement Committee reached a new level of violence. Each group has armed itself for either the freedom of expression or the "protection" of society from the bad influences of media. Library Wars (2013)

In order to crack down on freedom of expression, a new law is passed, which allows the government to create an armed force to find and destroy objectionable printed materials with ideologies deemed harmful and destructive to the society.

Meanwhile, to oppose this oppressive crackdown, the Library Defense Force is created to protect the libraries. Iku Kasahara (Nana Eikura) endures harsh training by Instructor Atsushi Dojo (Junichi Okada), who is preparing her for a civil war that is brewing.

This was a pleasant find as modern military themed Japanese films are rare, as compared to other Asian films like Korea and China. While it looks silly on the surface about two factions going to war over books but beneath the surface is a matter of freedom of choice.

A future where the police are powerless as the military holds power. The training and combat scenes are awesome. I like the character development of the main leads, Dojo, who is hard on Iku as he was once as naive as him and how she grew to be a capable soldier.
