Where to Buy Doujinshi in Tokyo (Now that Toranana is Closed)
So, on Twitter last week, @onigiridorkkk, better known as Onigiri, asked me where the best place to buy doujinshi is, and I have the answer.
Before covid, it was Toranana. However, they have closed both their stores in both Ikebukero and Akihabara. If you’re buying doujinshi online, you should still shop on their online store though! That’s where I buy all my stuff online, and all my favourite creators publish through them!
But let’s say you’re in Tokyo, and you want to find the good shit. Well, it’s at K-Books Doujinkan in Ikebukero.
Why is this the best place?
1. There selection is huge.
Most places either cater to men or to women. It’s a weird thing we do in the industry. I write “for women” which doesn’t really mean anything in particular besides that there are themes, relationship dynamics and overall a writing and art style that trends have suggested is more popular with women. I’ll make a post about the differences in “for men” and “for women’s” doujinshi in the future
Regardless, the Doujinshi in this K-Books store are mostly “for women”, however there are some “for men” titles too.
2. Is is so easy to navigate, even if you don’t know a word of Japanese.
So in many stores, you will have to read the name of the fandom and/or the name of the ship/characters you’re looking for in Japanese to navigate the selection. But not at this K Books.
Looking for Jujistu Kaisen? Just look for the big picture of Gojo above the bookshelf, you’ll find him there. Or maybe you’re looking for a particular ship. Well, look on the shelves and see sections bookmarked with images or your fave pairing. They make it too easy!
3. Location is great.
I think the location is great for a number of reasons. First of all, I think Ikebukero is the place to be if you’re looking for doujinshi, hands down. You’ve probably heard a lot of talk about Akihabara. Some saying that it’s THE place to be if you’re looking for the otaku experience, others say that it died in the 90s. I disagree with both sentiments, I still think Akihabara is a must see and is still great, but yes, the otakus of Tokyo have in fact moved on the bigger and better.
Aside from that, the store is also above Swallowtail Cafe, which is a butler cafe. You may have heard of the maid cafes they have in Akihabara, and you may want to try it out, or maybe you don’t like the idea of it. I can’t say they’ve exactly gained the best reputation. If you want a similar experience, you can find it here!
Overall, shopping at K-Books Doujinkan in Ikebukero is pleasant. It’s easy to navigate, they have a great selection, the aisles are wide and you don’t have to climb over people to look on the shelves, which is a plus.
That’s it from me! But that’s my recommendation! Enjoy!

yippeee yay raven gaming !! 4, 14 and 19 for gamer asks?
hii axel!!!
4. Best game soundtrack (full album or single track)?
while persona 3's soundtrack means a lot to me and guilty gear xx goes hard, it has to be SMTIV. Ikebukero Underground District specifically. Its just so good you have to listen to it, i love the percussion forwardness of it
14. Worst game you’ve ever played?
actually i either demo or watch videos of games to see if i like them first, so i dont have many negative gaming experiences. that being said, State of Decay (1) is genuinely so fucking awful to play the only purpose its existence serves was for the devs to go "huh that sucked ass. lets do that better next time" then they still didnt but SoD2 was at least really good after juggernaut edition came out
19. A game that you wish you could play for the first time again.
Armored Core VI. what a game. it was such a special experience after playing the ps2 games, the modernized gameplay and controls and garage, mmmmmm. i wish i could go back, fight the bosses i find really easy nowadays with that adrenaline fueled do-or-die emotion in a sub-optimal AC that it gave me. it was really something special

ur first shizuo x reader is so good it made me CRYYY!!!!!! do u think u could write another shizuo x reader but instead This reader just stepped foot into ikebukero, sees shizuo in action and is just "... i wanna fuck him :)" and tries SO hard to try and win shizuo over? their general vibe is just "heyyy handsome... are you free friday night?" and shizuo has NO idea what to make of this because... do they know who he is???
Hi I’m sorry but at the moment I won’t be writing for drrr anymore at all. I’ve been getting very rude anon messages about not being fast enough or writing what they want right then and there and it just killed it for me all together. Pls feel free to make a request from any of the other fandoms I listed that I write for but at this current time I’m no longer doing Shizuo requests

IWGP and Trick! are my favorite dated JDramas. There is another show called Ikebukero West Gate Park unfortunately flooded the IWGP tag. Not really relevant I just thought about them for a silly reason I don't remember quite what, probably the kokeshi.

haneda airport chaos
finally it was time for me to leave, i checked out of my hotel, did some final exploring of ikebukero and decided i was too hot to keep walking so i headed to the airport. my flight wasn’t until 10 but i got to the airport around 4. i ended up just scrounging up my remaining money for food and sitting by my gate on a lovely reclining chair. finally it was getting closer to 9:30, our boarding time, however we were still not allowed to board. i could see the plane out the window so i just waited longer and longer. finally as i was about to leave the gate in such for a smoking room they made an announcement. the flight was cancelled and i wouldn’t be leaving tokyo tonight. at this stage in the trip i was alone and many of my friends where already back in melbourne. qantas organised free accomodation for everyone on the flight, thank god because i though i’d have to sleep on the ground inside the airport and i was completely broke, and we all followed some very stressed stewardess’s back through customs and to the baggage claim. finally we lined up to be set up with a flight and a hotel room. while in line i made friends with two young girls and a pretentious family from sydney. they looked after my bags and spot in line while i went to lawsons for alcohol. at this point it was about 1am and a young girl fainted while in line. the stewardess’s were running around saying “is anyone a doctor?!” it was like a movie, eventually the ambulance came and the girl was fine. by this point in the night i was tipsy, tired and had completely surrendered to the situation. finally i made it to the desk and had a hotel organised for me as well as a direct flight to melbourne for the next night. the hotel was connected to the terminal and was actually quite nice and i was given a double room despite being on my own so i had plenty of room. after getting settled and forcing my brother to send me some money, i journeyed down to the 24/7 lawsons and bought more alcohol and snacks. By this point it was coming up 3am and i was rushing up the escalator to go to bed, of course i tripped and cut my toe open so i had to limp to the elevator while my hotel slipper filled with blood. a very kind australian lady noticed and said “oh my god are you ok?” sleep deprived and tipsy i just said “i think so” and hurried to my room.
the next morning i woke up late and missed the hotel breakfast. i explained over the phone to my mum that i wouldn’t be home for another day, because she had woken up in the morning expecting me. the hotel extended everyone’s checkout time so i had until 3pm to just relax in bed. of course i took multiple trips down to the smoking room, where i met an australian grandma with a very rough accent and a big kiwi guy who was missing a business meeting due to the flight delay. i ended up giving him one of my ciggys and he insisted on giving me $20 aud for it. finally i checked out, checked in to my flight and hoped for the best. by this point i was feeling major deja vu. all ended well though and i ended up on boarding my new flight with no trouble and leaving tokyo that night. apart from some turbulence and a kid vomiting on himself the flight was fine as i knocked myself out with sleeping pills. i made it back to the melbourne cold the next morning with no issues, i even managed to sneak a few extra cigarette packets through customs.

PROMPTS FOR THE ROMANCE OF HANDS & TOUCH
A tour of the neighborhood, tokyo was a large city and there was plenty to look around in each of it's sections. He grew up in ikebukero and worked around shinjuku long enough to be plenty familiar with both neighborhoods, then on top of that his work did end up taking him across the city. That was part of why he kept people around to run errands for him.
Including the girl along with him today though this was more of a favor this time around. It wasn't a surprise she hadn't had a chance to look around much and if she was going to be running around for him she should at least know the area. A particularly crowded area was what initiated the touch. It was easy to assume you'd lose another person in the sea of other people.
When they had moved through and things died down was where it stopped, suddenly as she hadn't seemed to realize how long it had been happening. Better for him, he was getting a bit tired of it.
"How about we stop somewhere to eat?"

Going to Ikebukero always held some risk, the thought of running into one man in all of the packed neighborhood might seem ridiculous to some but it was entirely different when that man was actually a beast. He made his visits plenty of times with no trouble but when there was- well it certainly wasn't subtle.
That risk didn't really pay off this time, he was spotted and the familiar chase started. Lucky for him though, he had finished work so he didn't quite just have to run off. He had actually gotten a couple slices in, though sadly only on his clothes before he ran. Too many people were starting to crowd, it'd have been way to hard to get away if he stayed much longer.
Those crowds didn't do much to help him hide, the blonde charging full force through everyone was the most you'd see the sea of people part in the city. He was going to continue on his way out of the beats sights when instead he was grabbed- and pulled off to the side out of the street.
He stumbled a bit but quickly caught himself as he was faced with honestly, a fairly plain looking girl. He was quick to put the knife in his hand back up in his sleeve. She was pretty, but certainly not enough it made her stand out in the city. Still he was instantly interested in the kind of girl who would just grab someone like that, and why. If she recognized him, she probably wouldnt have grabbed him and he certainly didn't recognize her.
"That was pretty brave of you," He smiled at her, she had to be new to the area. Grabbing someone being chased to help them was one thing, but know one who knew Shizuo would risk something like that. "I'm Orihara Izaya. I certainly appreciate the help, Honda-san but-" As he was about to finish speaking, off in the distance of the street he saw a guard rail go flying.
"If we stay here much longer he'll be able to find us," He really hardly glanced at the disaster, certainly nothing he hadn't seen before. "Let's move, if you don't mind I'd be happy to repay your help. Would you like lunch or maybe stopping at a café?" He didn't wait for an answer, regardless he was eager to get further away from the rampage. He placed a hand on her shoulder and guided her further into the back street and making one of the turns to the next street.
Tohru never imagined that she would move so far away from the Sohmas, especially not to a place like Ikebukuro. Despite her apprehension, she was excited to work and finally own her own apartment — just like she had always promised her mother. It had been almost a week since she transitioned from the Sohmas' home to here. A light hum left her lips as she walked the busy streets. She had a lot of shopping planned for the day. She was drawn out of her thoughts by the sound of some man yelling, and the next thing she knew, she was witnessing another person being chased.
At first, she only stared at the scene, trying to figure out what was happening. But the next thing she knew, she grabbed the man's hand and pulled off to a side street. It was almost instinctual how she grabbed his hand to escape danger. ❝ Wow, that was really close! ❞ She muttered, peeking around the corner momentarily before returning to the other. Hands were soon raised and frantically shaking back and forth.
❝ Oh, I'm so sorry! Maybe I shouldn't have grabbed you like that; you might not have even needed my help! ❞ Words were spoken with worry, her brow creasing slightly as she spoke. ❝ I'm a stranger; maybe you didn't even need my help! I saw you running, so I thought the man was chasing you and you were in trouble. ❞ She stated in that way of hers, expressing her feelings that perhaps she had done something wrong.
She paused for a moment, finally looking up at the other. ❝ I'm Honda Tohru; it's nice to meet you. ❞ She introduced herself after realizing that she had only been explaining what she had done and why she had done it without even introducing herself. She couldn't help but be reminded of the last time she found herself in a similar situation, rescuing her dear friend Uo-chan from that group of girls who had been chasing her.
