i know that other religions also use similar phrases but theres something so psychically disturbing to me abt when christians say rip about nonchristians because it’s like you’re mentally placing the person in your own theologically suspect afterlife and kind of comical with the extension that you at least traditionally literally do not believe that person is going to rest in peace because you believe theyll be tortured for eternity for not agreeing with you 👍 like it disconcerts me in kind of the same way as the baptisms for the dead just on a smaller scale
#will NEVER forget when i was at uni in ireland n they sent an email announcing a student had died#and concluded it with like an extremely catholic irish language condolence#and the student was muslim#ik a lot of modern xtians dont do the fire and brimstone thing#however maybe read the room when fire and brimstone has been used by xtians for centuries#against marginalised people to terrify them into obeying#so evoking the concept is still like a little bit fraught i have to say#i for some reason have really intense feelings about like respect after death for both the body and the person#i really don't know where it came from but i get like weirdly upset abt anything to do w that#even though im like objectively aware that its like not causing harm if theyre dead#like i cried my eyes out when i signed up to be an organ donor HSIUHGFGd#and i didnt put my eyes bc i just cant bear the thought of that
