IM IN LOVE WITH THE VILLIANESS: this is the first time i have ever seen in an anime, them straight up having an onscreen convo about being gay instead of leaving it to "ill be by your side" subtext: (transcribed from Season 1 Episode 3)

Rae: If you mean, do i like girls. Then yeah. I have never been in love with a man.

Claire: I'm in danger.

Misha: To react that way just because she's gay, it says more about your ignorance than her character. ....

Misha: Rae, the jokes aren't helping...So tell me Miss Claire. How would you feel if a man came up to you and said "Don't molest me." Claire: What!? I would never conduct myself in such a lecherous manner. Misha: Of course you wouldn't. And yet you basically accused Rae of the same thing. You said you were in danger. Claire: *shocked Pikachu* Rae: Yeah, you're so right Misha. It doesn't work like that. No one lusts after everyone who fits their gender preference . It doesn't matter if you're gay or straight. Attraction is based on the individual. Claire: Yes. That's true. I see your point. Lene: You're saying you fall in love with the person, not their gender, right? And currently the one you're in love with just so happens to be a woman. Is that the case? Rae: No. I mean, not exactly. I wouldn't say gender doesn't matter at all. Lene: Oh. Then it does? Rae: Yeah. I get the logic behind saying "gender doesn't matter" when you deeply connect with someone, like love is love, but I can say for sure that I'll never have those kinds of feelings for a man. Misha: I guess this is all more complicated than people think. Rae: Some people never have the chance to learn. They can't help that. And I know Miss Claire doesn't feel the same way, I'm just happy to bask in her presence. (to claire) If you change your mind and want to make out, let me know. ----- Like, being initially Claire identifies as straight, and if the show is following the light novels/manga we have some idea where the RL between Rae and Claire is heading, it had to be addressed somehow (it occurs in the light novel too) but I wasn't expecting the whole open and frank discussion to make it to the screen. Its bloody refreshing.

Reading "She's so Cheeky for a Commoner" and getting to read Claire's thoughts in detail is transcendent.

I'm only half way through so I have gotten to the Festival Scene, which I'm looking forward to the most. But getting to see her toughts during the "Are you what they call gay?" scene is so amazing!

It was always obvious that she quickly saw reason when called out for her discriminatory behavior, but to get the tiny little hint that she's always been a closted bisexual amd, more importantly, that there was a part of her in that moment that hurt because she couldn't return Rae's feelings and ultimately sympayhized with her, even if she's not at the point where she accepts her.

But even more than that, I was surprised that Claire acknowledges, to herself at least, that Rae's feelings are genuine. Which makes me even more excited to get to the Festival Scene, where in the main series, she still calls it a joke and doesn't seem to take Rae seriously. I am dying to read her thoughts on this. I love this. I love Inori. I'm in love with I'm in Love with the Villainess.
