I would have missed this year's Deepavali light up and colours by @officiallishasg if not for the Trishaw Trail Ride by @indianheritage_sg. It was nice to see some life, even if there was lesser crowd. So yeah, I stayed home most of Sept to Oct, came out this one day, and shot everything like a starving photographer 😂. Thanks to @indianheritage_sg, I had a memory trip back to my childhood of going for #Trishaw rides with my Nanny. We'll take it from Onan Road to go down to Joo Chiat and Geylang Serai. It's one of the few memories I retained as a little child, and of my Peranakan Nanny all dressed beautifully in her Sarong Kebaya, getting gracefully into the Trishaw. It was really fun, a lot more fun than we anticipated. Great way to traverse the little streets of Little India and see the sights and lights. Highly recommended! Day or Night, the @indianheritage_sg possesses some secrets and different looks, depending on where you are. For example, there's a "secret" staircase that runs from the 3rd to the 4th Floor, which runs along the facade of the building, enabling you to look down on busy Campbell Lane and the red roofs of the traditional neighbouring shophouses. Scroll to the next photo, and you'll see, if you stand at the junction of Clive street, you'll see how well the sharp angles of the building integrates with the row of shophouses that's adjacent to it. The neighbourhood around it boasts of numerous murals, these are some just in the immediate vicinity of Campbell Lane, behind it. "The Indian Heritage Centre traces the history of the Indian and South Asian communities in the Southeast Asian region. The architectural design for the facade is inspired by the baoli (or Indian stepwell), and seeks to create an urban forum for the celebration and appreciation of Indian culture. It houses five permanent galleries, a museum shop as well as programming and activity spaces. Early last week, my friend asked me if I had been down to see the lights at Little India as it was very nice. Little India is one of my favourite spots in Singapore, always alive, bright, cheerful and colourful, especially in the run up to a major festival like Deepavali. Always the best decorated precinct, Little India comes alive every major festival with its street light ups. Holding true to the meaning of Deepavali, which is the Festival of Lights, this year's street light up was a bright cheer to the dark and greys of the long Covid months. Little India was noticeable less busy and quiet than pre-Covid, pre-festival days, when it would normally have been a human crush. Still, the bright, brilliant lights were a welcome riot of colours that made my rare outing these last 2 months worth the trip down.
