Here's a little diddy I took 5 years ago at the Rochester Public Market (aka, where most freshman photo students go whenever there was a "take portraits of strangers" assignment.) . . . The scope of my comfort zone when it comes to photography pretty much lies withing the realm of "If I don't have to talk, I'm good." Portraits, especially of strangers, has always been a huge mental barrier. If you think photography is easy, it's not.
