Im sorry i get like its a continuation of the previous game so as the PLAYER you may have sympathy for Solas and want to save him but from the MAIN CHARACTER standpoint of datv why would Rook of all characters feel any need to do so by the end? Like unless u romanced him in inquisition, it's not like the inquisitor puts up a huge argument for him.
I dont even feel like the regret memories add to his defense much from Rooks perspective, esp with some backgrounds.
Like theres multiple times characters are like "rook trust us he isnt actually bad" but never addresses what he did to Rook? Narriatively why would Rook give a fuck what other ppl are saying when they lived first hand his worst? U cant even have conversations with ur team abt what happened really from Rooks perspective. Weird.
Oh well just something to expand on in my head ig.
#like actually i get the varric reveal was emotional but if i was rook and varric was like he just is PLAYING a villain bc its easier#id be like hello he killed you made me think u were alive then locked me in a regret prison meant for gods#datv spoilers#sorry lol this is just such a weird narrative problem to me esp from a perspective of an older rook#ig this game is designed and written with the idea that ur rooks like 20 and easily manipulated by others opinions of the world but#that falls flat when ur playing a rook whos got a lot of world experience and is like hey i dont fucking gaf what u say#like my rook had specific dialogue where he was like yeah i used to be a bad person but everyday i work to be better even if its harder-#-and u expect him to say 'okayyy heres your 15th chance' to a guy he hardly knows and has never seen prove anything personally
