It's worse than this. Because it's not just that they don't like how white men don't like their message, they've decided that not liking their message or positions means white men are inherently dangerous to their objectives, which means white men are inherently a threat.
They classify disagreement with their end goals and their means as "radicalism." Do I even need to explain what a slippery slope it is when you denigrate a person's reluctance or dissent to your position by declaring them to be a dangerous, potentially violent radical, disregarding any possibility of validity entirely and just writing them off as a KKK member, or Nazi. Because how dare they disagree with a position like, "all white people are inherently racist, because your very identity and ethnography are wrong and need to not be validated in society anymore. All white people need to accept non-whites get job security because we want those people to perpetuate and they're important enough to cultivate like breeds of flower, but YOU are weeds we need to indifferently let die or pluck from the beds."
You just need to say, "I am not a racist just because I am a white man" in order to be considered "dangerously conservative" and, "in risk of falling into the alt-right pipeline." And is it because you're someone that values your European descent enough to perpetuate it? Technically yes, but it's not the criticism that comes from liberalism, where the defacto position is (was) that all ethnocentrism or ethnosupremacism is wrong. It comes from the Intersectionalist and Progressive position that ONLY white people are an invalid construct that "needs to be abolished." The only ethnic group and linguistic group that needs to be disenfranchised and talked to as if it doesn't exist and it's somehow good, actually, to not only make them vulnerable to poverty and misrepresentation in government, but make sure food gets taken out of their mouths to feed people on the basis of their ethnography and culture.
It isn't like the 80s and 90s when the more leftist position was "all saving of assigned seats is bad, if it's on the basis of race." It evolved, or let the mask slip, and started openly saying, "Save seats, but for black people, Asian and indigenous Americans," and from there it became, "No saved seating for whites."
And in this environment where you're told to shut up, that your voice doesn't matter, that you don't legitimately get or deserve representation as a group without it being inherently violently supremacist and extremist, other groups of people are put on pedestals and protected by society and the law. Why? Because some people follow an ideology that arbitrarily designates anyone that would be considered white to be "privileged," and anyone that isn't to be considered "oppressed." So if you're the designated Oppressor, you don't actually exist, you just aspire to existence that's leeching the validity from everybody else. If you're the Oppressed, you can scream, "BLOOD AND SOIL!" all you want, and demand it from the Oppressor to give up theirs.
The same people that will moan about "gender equality," but their definition of gender equality conveniently claims men are the bar by which "more oppressed genders" are compared to, and sexually dimorphic advantages for women that cannot be replicated by men are not even considered as characteristics giving them protection or privilege. Why? Again, this arbitrary "women are Oppressed(tm)" model of defining inequality. The same government that goes out of its way to advantage a person because they're female, or just a woman (either sex) will go out of its way to prevent you from accessing those social safety nets if you are a cisgenderedman, and that is not considered any kind of discrimination or disadvantage, because, "men are Oppressors and the defacto in this society."
Except.. we're not. There is no magical, statistical advantage outside sheer determination and selective pressures for a man to get jobs that put food on the table. There is no conspiracy to only hire men for a job, it's just that men want those jobs harder for men's success is determined by their ability to land those jobs. Whereas, this society will happily place women in places of power and control, simply to "even them out" arbitrarily.
So the campaign does nothing to address any of this open, wanton advantaging of everybody in the developed world that isn't white, or cisgendered male, at the expense of white cisgendered taxpayers and high value service and tradeskill positions. It just threatens them with prison time unless they start proactively singing the magic "it's your fault and you're sorry" song society wants you to sing, or else be declared dangerously criminally insane and risk restriction, revocation of any rights (privilges) and possible felon status and prison time. IE: "Beatings will continue until morale improves."
And then they'll continue to wonder why "the crypto-fascist alt-right pipeline" (defined as just.. not being an intersectional feminist. Like there's no distinction between "I am not a bigot for being born to white people" and "white people are the superior race") continues to not only get more populous by whites, but more racially and sexually diverse, as well.

Instead of actually listening and trying to relate we're going to spend 20 million figuring out how best to psychologically manipulate people.
Is that more or less money than it took to come up with Extreme MAGA or whatever it was they thought was going to make people crumple to their knees a few years back?

-Someone on Reddit said that Sakura might have imposter syndrome 🤔 what do you think about this take?
-in your opinion Who has the best writing, parallels and symbolism in wind breaker , the one with the best built character arc so far ?
I don't know if imposter syndrome is the phrase I would use to describe how I interpret Sakura's current emotional predicament but I definitely do agree with the sentiment. I think imposter syndrome would more accurately describe Sakura in his growth during the current season 2 of the anime. I think in the scenes we see post-keel arc through the Roppo Ichiza arc we see Sakura constantly comparing himself to other leadership figures and questioning himself as the class captain for class 1-1.
He goes to Kaji Ren for advice, he compares Kanji Nakamura to how he saw Umemiya when Choji rolled up challenging Furin. At this point in the story he is looking at all three of those people and trying to figure out what he can do to be more of a leader like them. The thing is, he IS still asking himself what he can do to be more like them. He had that fear after screwing up as a leader and getting his class in a situation that was way over their heads and he wasn't strong enough to get them safely out of that situation himself that his classmates wouldn't want him as class captain anymore. And, I think his thoughts at the time were also still dwelling on worrying that if he doesn't know what he wants to do as a leader, what he wants once he gets to the top, then who is to say he's not going to end up like Choji had- dissatisfied and with a twisted attachment to power.
I think the important part of his growth following the post-keel arc is him deciding what is his goal in becoming a leader and in the fights he engages with. Because it's in the Roppo Ichiza arc that he's presented with Kanji's perspective- So long as we succeed in protecting the town and its people, it doesn't matter if we win or lose a fight. Sakura thinks that's a cool ideal until he realizes that that means Kanji is okay if that means he and his allies get beaten into the ground. And Sakura gets his dead wife flashback and decides that he actually doesn't agree with this stance as a leader. However, point still stands that he needs to find what he DOES want his stance to be as a leader. And he decides that he wants to do everything in his power to keep his allies safe as well in a fight. And FASCINATINGLY enough - though it's not presented to Sakura at all in this arc- We DO get Suo imparting upon Nirei that it is more important not to be defeated than it is to win a fight. Which is EXACTLY what the next arc is about in the Noroshi War- Furin just has to make sure they aren't defeated. That they put themselves in front of their adversaries who are threatening the town and that they don't go down. But, I've already yapped about how amazing the change in Sakura is in the Noroshi War Arc is and how Sakura really is coming into his own as a strategic leader/fighter of a whole group of people.
We are, however, being shown what is weighing on Sakura's mind currently in the manga. And that is seeing Umemiya in his fight against Takiishi. I think it in truth is witnessing Umemiya on the rooftop in combination with now knowing the full story of everything Umemiya has done to rebuild Furin into Bofurin, the protectors of Makochi.
(This chapter being called "The Place I Want to Protect" being both Sakura and Umemiya's shared desire)
And I think Sakura is genuinely starting to get confidence in being captain of class 1-1. As a part of the ensemble of captains who all support Umemiya and help contribute towards protecting everyone else. He still has the lingering fear that he's going to get people hurt, he still wonders what actions for him to take would be the best to ensure everyone's safety (which is what Endo tries to manipulate during their fight) but he starting to accept seeing himself as "Sakura, captain of class 1-1". However, this is the comparison of how Sakura saw Umemiya towards the beginning of the series
vs how Sakura saw Umemiya during the rooftop fight against Takiishi and the image of Umemiya that keeps popping up in his head when people say he'll become the next top of Furin:
THIS is the person who put EVERYTHING into making Furin what it is in the present day of the manga. Furin is Umemiya's dream, his passion, the fire he has lit and is maintaining/protecting. Being the top of Furin to Sakura now means it would be up to SAKURA to make sure Furin continues being what Umemiya has committed his whole life into creating. To make sure his dream is maintained in his absence. But I don't think Sakura can wrap his head around Umemiya NOT being the top of Furin. Like, not an equal comparison at all, but imagine someone taking over Cafe Pothos from Kotoha. Would it really still be Cafe Pothos without her? The Omurice wouldn't taste the same and you wouldn't be able to have the same conversations as you do with Kotoha.
So I think to Sakura the implication that he could take over Furin from Umemiya whenever people make a comment about how they believe he'll become the top of Furin is ABSURD. Perhaps not as much imposter syndrome as it feels to him like someone repeating back to you some wild dream you spouted as a kid like wanting to be a superhero when you grow up. My take is that Sakura sees this dream he had about becoming the top of Furin as some nonsense he was spouting before he knew anything about what Bofurin and the weight and value of everything Umemiya has done to rebuild Furin High School/ to protect Makochi. People are repeating back to Sakura his words when all he wanted was to become the top fighter to prove that he himself had value. To prove that he had worth because he could just fight/defend himself against anyone dared to antagonize him. Those are the words of a lonely boy who could only rely on himself. Those are the words of someone who knows what it means to be a part of Bofurin and to fight to defend others and not just yourself. Everyone else sees Sakura's heart and how even when he arrived he was a kind person who secretly desired connection and being accepted for who he is, but seeing value in himself that is related to fighting has ALWAYS been one of the hardest things for Sakura himself to do. It's HARD for him to think of himself as someone that can rely on everyone and that everyone can rely on him. He doesn't have that sort of confidence in himself. So, I think that lack of confidence is SIMILAR to Imposter Syndrome, but I think that more accurately describes early series Sakura. He's not top of Furin yet, he's not trying to be top of Furin anymore, but people are saying that they're going to continue to support him TOWARDS being the future top of Furin. It would definitely be imposter syndrome if they were asking Sakura to become the Top of Furin in that moment, putting him in that position now, but right now it's more like someone telling you this IMPOSSIBLE hope/vision that they have, thinking that this childish dream is still what you are trying to achieve. Especially since that would mean Umemiya no longer being there and having to fill in his shoes. It's just... not something Sakura can wrap his head around at all.
jsklfg This is already getting very long so I'll try to be a bit more concise towards your second question. The easy answer for who do I think has the best writing and parallels is hands down Sakura because every single arc we're introduced to characters that are parallels or foils to some aspect of Sakura that he continues to learn and grow from. Yes, he is the world's biggest tsundere and predictable when it comes to reacting to any sort of affection or compliment. but there still is a lot of complexity to how he interacts with others and his journey in personal growth (growing more confident in himself and deciding what kind of person he would be proud to be). Even arcs that aren't about him per say/ where he doesn't take the spotlight are still important because it imparts something to Sakura that he needs to learn or realize about himself and his values. Now if we're getting into PERSONAL favorites however, that would be Togame Jo~
Causticsodaa/NaOh does a great job in this post going into pretty much every detail about how Togame and Choji are foils narratively, design wise, personality wise, etc etc. He is the tortoise in the tortoise and the hare aesop fable. He wears orange/yellow/sun-colored glasses while he is convincing himself that continuing being the person to do the dirty work for Choji will keep Shishitoren's sun from dimming (even though Choji's light was far gone). Him tying his hair back was him tying himself to the way things were in Shishitoren; tying himself to Choji's 'vision' for Shishitoren. But after the fight against Furin he cuts his hair and tells Sakura himself that it's because he was no longer letting anything tie who he is down.
I was really liking Wind Breaker when I first started watching the show, but it was seeing Jo and Choji's flashbacks and the scene of Jo crouching over Choji's body as he came back to consciousness that I was like "Oh no, This show is rewiring my brain chemistry. It's all I'm going to be able to think about, isn't it?" It was the writing of their story that made me realize I was OBSESSED with this show.

There's a viral video circulating from the Fort Worth Zoo, of two keepers who ended up in a habitat at the same time as a silverback gorilla. Spoiler for good news: neither the humans nor the gorilla got hurt. It's a bad situation that ended extremely well, and that's why I want to talk about it.
The audio for this video is mostly someone praying loudly, so if you need to turn the audio off to watch it, you won't miss anything relevant. If you don't want to watch it, here's the summary: it starts with a keeper running around the corner into the main exhibit, pursued by a large male gorilla. She is quickly able to get into a doorway at the back of the exhibit, but does not completely close the door because the gorilla is standing across from her, watching. He eventually moves off to the right hand side of the exhibit, where we can see a keeper is trapped in the corner at the front. She was trying to move towards the exit as he moved to the right, and she stops, standing very still behind a tree, while he stays along the far right wall. They stay like that for a minute, and then the gorilla runs to the front right corner, and the keeper is able to run to the door in the back of the exhibit and get to safety.
Let's start with basic information. Even though it's just going viral now, this video is from October of 2023. It was taken not by a guest, but by the zoo security officer responding to the situation. Hmmm, seems like he maybe should have been doing something else during that situation, instead of than taking a phone video. It's going viral now because the guy (who is no longer employed at the zoo) decided to post it on TikTok for his five minutes of fame. This guy immediately started giving all sorts of media interviews, answering questions like "why no tranquilizers" inappropriately, making memes out of his own video, generally distasteful shit.
Zoo spokesperson Avery Elander gave a public statement that "thankfully, there was no physical contact between keepers and gorilla, and all staff and animals are safe." A comment from the zoo has also indicated that the incident was due to keeper error. (As opposed to, for instance, something in the fencing breaking.) According to the guy who posted the video, a lock was left unsecured and the gorilla was able to open the door to the habitat. I don't know if I buy it, and again, this just... is probably why he doesn't have a job anymore. By sharing that detail - real or not - he places a ton of public scrutiny and blame on that keeper team. (If that's what happened, I can promise you it will have been dealt with internally.) He also was nice enough to say he wouldn't name the women in the video... but verified they're still staffers at the zoo... which means they're eminently identifiable! Excuse me while I ragequit for a second.
So there's two reasons I wanted to talk about this. The first is to make sure it is well known that this guy is purposefully and intentionally exploiting the worst day of someone's life for media attention. Their lives were in danger, and he's using it for fame. His name is in the media articles - I'm not going to share it because he doesn't deserve that attention. The second reason, though, is because this video is a masterclass on how to survive if you end up sharing space with a gorilla. Every zoo person I've spoken to or seen comment on the video is so, so impressed with how the keepers handled themselves.
The gorilla in this video is 34-year-old Elmo. All apes in AZA zoos are managed in protected contact, so keepers are supposed to be separated from them by a barrier at all times. The zookeepers were in the habitat putting out a mid-day meal when he got out. Watching the video, you can see he's not actively being aggressive towards them - he's not making threat displays or trying to approach them. Mostly, Elmo seems like he doesn't know what is going on and he's kinda freaked out about it. (This is confirmed in the zoo's press statement, too). The staff stayed calm, and importantly, watched and waited to see how he'd move and act.
The zoo did say one thing, though, that's a bit misleading. In one article, their press person I quote as saying “In general, gorillas are considered the “gentle giants” of the great ape species.” Just because this may be true in comparison to other great ape species doesn't meant gorilla aren't still incredibly dangerous. This type of messaging always worries me, because I think it leads people to misunderstand the risks of being close to megafauna. Gorilla are extremely strong animals, and their social norms/behaviors are very different from that of humans. That's why it's such a big deal any time people end up in gorilla habitats, and why sometimes in those circumstances lethal measures have to be taken to protect human life.
These keepers are incredibly lucky to be unharmed. These women stayed safe specifically because they're trained professionals who knew how to act around gorilla, they knew this particular animal well, and they'd learned the escapes from the exhibit just in case this ever happened. We should applaud them for their cool heads and quick thinking.
As for the guy who posted the video? As a colleague put it, may he always step on a Lego.

Room in The Den
Pairing: Hybrid!141 x Male!Reader
A/N: Intended as an early-stages poly relationship, but could also be interpreted as platonic.
Part 2 -> Click here
-----
It’s a bullshit new law that does it. Some asshole lawmakers deciding that just because there’s some small fraction of animal DNA in them that they can’t do their jobs right without “an actual person” watching over them that gets you assigned to the 141.
Sure, joining a team that elite is an honor, but it’s something you’d have wanted by your own merits, not just because someone who’d never seen real combat in their lives thought your new colleagues needed someone fully human to reel them in.
You’ve seen their numbers - they don’t need you and you’re sure as hell they don’t want you encroaching on the bond that their experiences have fostered between them. That’s why you come in expecting the animosity.
You were right. Captain Price is cordial enough, he shakes your hand without crushing it and says he’s eager to work with you but his smile doesn’t meet his eyes and the terseness in his voice tells you he’s just saying it to be polite. He’s run this task force long enough to know how to do his job without you there. His Lieutenant doesn’t even grant you that. The sergeants seem wary and you don't blame them but you know that it’s better to be someone like you that knows their worth than one of the holier-than-thou bureaucrats they’d been considering assigning to this post, so you’ll just have to try to find your place in the team.
-----
Soap is the easiest to win over. He finds you in the gym one night long after everyone else had retired back to their bunks, ripping through reps at the bench press without a spotter. He’s thrown for a minute, used to being the only one up this late since the rest of the squad is mostly diurnal, but he’s content enough to admire the way your compression shirt is darkened with sweat and to watch your muscles shift with each movement. Can feel himself drooling a little at the spice of your scent, heady and masculine and tempting enough to make him want to bite.
He wonders a little, whether you’d be able to keep up with him and he can’t help the steady pace his tail picks up behind him as he decides he’s going to find out.
You’ve got your eyes closed and earbuds in like you’re the only one for miles and yet you still seem to sense him as he drops his bag and moves to stand near you.
“S’dangerous,” he says as you re-rack your weights and pull an earbud out, “To lift without someone to spot you.”
You nod, it’s one of the biggest rules of gym safety for a reason, but you’d never been great with rules. “Never much liked askin’ for help,” you admit after a minute. “Didn’t wanna bother anyone.”
He hums, and you don’t feel judged, just understood, “Well, you’re stuck with the lot o’ us now, whether you like it or not,” he grins, wolfish and happy, and moves to stand at the head of the bench to spot you, “Bother away.” And just like that, you’ve got yourself a new workout buddy.
It’s like he’s your self appointed shadow after that, waiting outside your door every morning with a freshly made protein shake in each hand, one for each of you. He’ll get all whiny about it too if you say no, pointy wolf ears drooping and tail falling still behind him. He looks like he’s about to cry until you finally relent and take yours from him (he perks up right away every time, the little faker). Eventually you learn that it’s easier to just take it from him without the fight and let him ramble on about whatever he’d seen on tiktok the night before as he walks you to your office.
He joins you for meals too, complains about the amount of food on your plate and scoops bites off his own plate to supplement yours despite your protests. His Ma had always told him growin’ up that he had to eat plenty of protein if he wanted to be big and strong and protect his pack, so he’s just tryin’ to do the same for you and doesn’t understand why you feel the need to argue about sharing food.
You’re part of his pack now, and Soap’ll be damned before he neglects one of his packmates, just don’t be surprised if he starts bullying his way into your room at night too - he’s a cuddler.
-----
Gaz warms up to you next, though he always blames the blood loss if someone asks what won him over. He’d joined you and Soap for your evening workouts a few times, and grinned at each other when you passed in the halls, but it’s not until the morning after a brutal op that he really starts to see you as part of the team.
It’s early. Barely three-thirty in the morning when the heli touches down and maybe only four when the squad tumbles through the doors but you’re right there with the rest of them. Price is already headed down to the administrative wing for a debrief and Ghost has a snoring Soap over his shoulder like a sack of potatoes on his way to the barracks, and then there’s just the two of you.
You’ve got one of Gaz’s arms over your shoulder and an arm heavy around his waist, tucked snug under his bleeding wing, taking most of his weight as you help him limp through the halls. You hang a left instead of the right that would lead to the infirmary, instead guiding him into your office. You sweep whatever paperwork had been on your desk aside, and help him up to sit, legs hanging off one side of your desk and wings cascading over the other.
You’re quick to shrug off the outer layer of your tactical gear and cast it aside, pulling out a sizable med kit from under your desk and settling on your knees in front of him. You ask him if it’s okay, before you help ease his cargo pants down enough to get to the wound on his thigh and he finds himself taken aback since their usual medic would just muscle them off or cut them away to get at it. You wait until he nods to start tugging at the fabric, fingers careful and intent as you work the material free from the torn flesh.
He watches as your gaze flickers over the wound and you reach for what you need without even looking. He’s been told his eyes are intense before, it’s normal for bird of prey hybrids, perhaps especially so for golden eagle hybrids like him, but he’s never quite understood the way people describe being pinned in place by his gaze until now.
You work fast, sterilizing, stitching, and then bandaging his wound with a speed that would rival the military doctors in the infirmary, and the stitches seem more sturdy than he can remember his last ones being.
Once you’re satisfied with his leg, you stand and move behind him to get a better look at his wing. He'd taken a bullet to it, right through the meat of the muscle, and he knew he’d be grounded a long while until it healed. You hesitated then, unsure if he’d be okay with you touching such a personal area as his wings.
Gaz swallows hard, trying to think of the last time someone other than himself had handled his wings, and nudges it back into your hands. You’re remarkably gentle, he thinks, as your fingers card delicately through rich caramel feathers until you’re able to uncover the bullet hole. You use a pair of tweezers, to make sure that there are no lingering bits of shrapnel, and a tiny set of scissors to trim back any of the soft downy feathers that could catch in the wound as it heals.
He’s started churring by the time you’re done, a sort of contented trill from the feeling of someone else preening his wings, despite the lingering pain from the injuries. His golden eyes snap back to focus as you nudge a water bottle and granola bar into his hands with a muttered apology that it was all you had on hand, and he’s still plenty happy because you’re trying to be part of his flock by preening him and providing for him. He churs the whole while as you guide him back to his room and help him into bed.
Gaz quickly becomes a regular participant of you and Soap’s late night gym sessions and joins you for mealtimes once in a while after that night.
-----
Truthfully, you still don’t know what convinced Ghost you were worth knowing, but he supposes that’s because you hadn’t known he was there. He’d been on his way to deliver a mission report from Price to one of the other admin when one of his rounded ears caught the sound of your raised voice. His curiosity drew him to the door, cracked just enough that he was able to see you stood across a table from a trio of generals, arms crossed and back straight.
“I appreciate your congratulations,” you growled, and Ghost was taken aback by the ferocity in your voice. He’d never heard you speak like that before, not even in the field. “But I am not the one who should be hearing it.”
His ears prick forward, tugging against the thick fabric of his mask as he listened closer, intrigued.
“With all due respect, Major, task force 141-” one of the pencil pushers started.
“No,” you interrupted, hands coming down hard on the desk between you and the other officers, “They are due the commendations. They are the ones who built this team from the ground up. Sure, there have been successful missions since my joining, but those are not only my achievements. If you want to offer a public congratulations on a successful operation, it will be to my entire team, not just the picture you think would be easiest to publish.”
With that, you turn from the board of your superior officers and head for the door, ignoring their protests, and Ghost has to scramble back in order to avoid being hit with the door.
“Sorry, Lieutenant,” you say as you see him, moving out of his way. “Didn’t see you there,” and for once that doesn’t sound like some slight against his panther genetics, just a plain statement - he’d been behind the door and you hadn’t meant to nearly clip him with it. You clap him on the shoulder and head off down the hall back toward your office and Ghost is tempted to drop the file where he stands to follow you, one simple interaction you hadn’t meant for him to see enough to convince him there was far more to you than he’d thought.
You weren’t just some babysitter added to their little family to observe them like they were no more than wild animals - you actually saw their worth and were willing to fight for it?
An amused little huff escapes him and Ghost forces his attention back to the task at hand, spotted tail lashing smoothly behind him as he turns and continues on his way, sharp claws digging puncture wounds into the folder he’d been sent to deliver and your words ringing in his mind.
----
Price was the last to come around to you being a part of their little family, though he’d never been outright hostile the way Ghost had at first. He’d done his best to be professional with you, complying with the needed paperwork and taking your insights on each operation under consideration, though he never deliberately sought you out.
That didn’t mean he could avoid you when the team had a mission though, especially not now with the five of you piled into a much-too-small cabin in the mountains near where intel suggested one of Makarov’s bases were. Laswell had just radioed in to let Price know there was a snowstorm incoming so evac might be delayed and to expect to hunker down at least another two nights.
With only two bedrooms and a total of three small beds between them, you’d volunteered to take up roost on the lumpy couch in the living room so he’s not surprised to see you there, so much as he is by your company. You’re sprawled out in about the middle of the couch with Gaz tucked comfortably against your side, your arm around his shoulder and one of his wings curling around the both of you. As Gaz’s wing shifts, Price notices Soap curled against your legs, snoring away, but he freezes as he sees Ghost.
Everyone on the team has gone through hell, but Price knows Ghost has dealt with more than his share. Nightmares aren’t uncommon for any of them, but for Ghost a decent night’s sleep was an incredible rarity. That’s why he’s so startled to see Ghost stretched comfortably along the rest of the couch with his head on your lap and his face nuzzled into your stomach, skull mask gone in favor of his more casual balaclava, and his breathing deep and even.
A pleased little huff escapes Price, warmth spreading in his chest at the sight of his three favorite people curled up together happy and comfortable. And if you were part of that? Well, there was plenty of room for one more in that old bear’s heart.

Do you mind writing an Optimus Prime part 2? Whenever 😄 inspiration finds you.
Sure! Also, I just accidentally found out that a single post can’t have over 100 links in it by accident with my Masterlist... Guess I get to par that down to the first chapters of everything and add actual previous/next links to the individual posts to navigate within a storyline.
And I’ve had a few people speculating about it and tried to make it a bit clearer now on the masterlist: the IDW stuff is all one big continuity with Lost Light and the random kink snippets clearly separated as alternate takes/AUs now.

Gravity pt 2
Optimus x Reader
• “You’re going to give them a heart attack when they come to if you don’t stop looming like that,” Ratchet mutters and Optimus looks up trying to decide if his old friend is joking. Given the frown, Ratchet’s serious and he’s not sure what to make of that. He’d known humans were fragile, but your heart can just stop? From fear? “They’re a little banged up, but fine,” Ratchet adds as Optimus stretches out a servo to touch your still form and then hesitates. You’re just so tiny, he’s not sure he can touch you without breaking you. “Who are you giving this one to?”
• Like it’s a forgone conclusion he’ll pawn watching over you on someone else. Someone less busy, less weighed down with duty. “It’s my responsibility,” he says, watching your chest rise and fall. You’ve been out since he caught you and so very still. He keeps his optics on you so he doesn’t have to see Ratchet’s expression. Because this is his responsibility and his guilt. He knows it’s not fair to trap you on the Ark, but keeping the surviving Autobots safe is his priority. And the other humans seem fine. Mostly.
• “Bumblebee would take them,” Ratchet offers, a hand touching his arm. “I think he’d be glad of the company.” Shaking his head, Optimus carefully curls his servos around your limp form and lifts you. Hears Ratchet venting tiredly behind him as he walks out and carries you through the halls to his quarters. Trailbreaker and Hound both turning to look when he walks by, curious. Maybe it’s been a mistake to try to keep his people far from humans. Maybe not. Sideswipe probably won’t be the last to abuse his rules, but he’s not ready to trust the humans to not betray them yet. He can’t.
• Your head is ringing, sinuses burning as you stiffly shift and your body complains about it. Why do you feel like one big bruise? There’s a blanket wrapped around you, but whatever you’re laying on isn’t that soft. Something presses so gently between your shoulder blades that it’s a ghost of a touch then slides down your spine. Repeats the stroke. Lifting your head, you squint up at a huge face staring down at you and everything slams back into focus. The Jeep that wasn’t a Jeep. The wreck. Giant, alien robots. One of which is holding you in one hand while it runs a huge finger down your spine again and again. You start shaking. That petting stopping when it notices.
• You’re awake. And not screaming. That has to be good thing, but remembering Ratchet’s warning, he rumbles and presses a servo carefully over your heart. It’s not stopped, but it is racing. A little, warm hand lands on his servo, your eyes wide in fear as you just tremble. And he understands, you have to realize how tiny you are compared to him, how easily you can be hurt. “You’re going to be okay, little one. I have you,” he says, optics snared on that tiny hand on his. And he knows he’ll protect you just like his Autobots. Be sword or shield for you, whatever you need. You’re his to care for now, that trembling fear hurting him to see.
• That rumbly, deep voice sings in your bones where you’re touching him, because that voice erased any doubts. Blue eyes is definitely a he. And as crazy as it is, you believe him despite the fear. There’s an earnestness in that voice that’s almost a promise of safety. Wonder mingles with the fear still thrumming through you as you stare at those pretty glowing eyes and think that they look unbelievably kind. The thought almost immediately followed with the certainty that you probably have a concussion.

Caitlyn & Vi - Apologies and Trust
Caitlyn and Vi are very different, but they share a commitment to the same values: Honesty, loyalty and directness.
Caitlyn has felt like a misfit since she was a kid, not fitting in with the fakeness of Piltover high society. She resents her mother for not letting her see 'the real world', by which she means the Undercity. Caitlyn doesn't care about apologies either. People apologize to her multiple times and she doesn't even acknowledge it. Their actions have already spoken and that is more important than their words.
Vi explains how to earn her trust while tied up in Ambessa's tent:
1. Be honest
2. Be patient
3. Just shut the fuck up (actions > words)
Episode 7 breaks up the flow of the current timeline. The next conversation Vi has after talking to Ambessa is with Caitlyn. The subject of trust is immediately brought up. Vi doesn't fully trust Caitlyn anymore, and for good reason. Caitlyn knows this and understands why. 'Can you blame me?' Vi asks, and Caitlyn remains silent, but her emotions are shown on her face; shame, guilt, regret, and anger (at herself) expressed in the explosive 'I KNOW!'.
1: Be honest.
Caitlyn immediately leads with honesty, starting with the 'I know', agreeing with Vi that she let Ambessa and her hatred for Jinx poison her. She lowers her defenses and tells Vi exactly what happened with Jinx while Vi was unconscious. How Jinx only cared about Vi's safety and then surrendered.
2: Be patient
Caitlyn then tells Vi Jinx is being held in the bunker while she decides what to do. That she was waiting for Vi to recover instead of acting on her own. She wants to be on the same page as Vi again, but they aren't yet.
3: Shut the fuck up
Vi walks off after asking 'who decides who gets a second chance?', and Caitlyn shuts the fuck up, clenches her jaw, and lets Vi walk out. There is nothing she can say to fix things between them, action is needed.
Cait talks to Jinx and sends all the guards to the Hexgates so Vi can break Jinx out if she wants to (and potentially leave together with her sister) letting Vi be the one who gets to decide. In doing this, Caitlyn chooses Vi. Vi chooses to put herself first for the first time in her life when she learns this.
This is how Caitlyn won Vi's trust in the first season as well. Trading her rifle (which she's had since she was young and the only protection she has from Silco's goons) for medicine to save Vi. Telling the Firelights to take her and let Vi go. Taking the hextech gemstone to the council with Vi and Ekko (which was the initial plan).
Caitlyn lets Vi take the lead and make the decisions, but does pause multiple times to slow things down. First to disclose she saw someone else, wanting there to be no secrets between them, which is met with 'I don't fucking care.' And again when she sees the bandage on Vi's side, not moving forward and hovering her hand over it in silent apology but also in question. Caitlyn is willing to address it now if Vi wants to. Vi then decides she doesn't by pulling Cait back in, saving that conversation for later if they survive the battle.

i think it finally clicked what about cassian and luthen's relationship i find so compelling. when cassian officially joined the rebellion at the end of season one, he effectively surrendered all of his autonomy to luthen. "kill me or take me in." he literally put his life in luthen's hands. he clearly had very little will to live, and beyond giving luthen the choice to kill him, he gave luthen the choice to give him purpose again. and not Just purpose, either, but full control over the rest of his life, as well. he became part of the cause because he felt he had nothing else left, and was either going to effectively kill himself, or let someone else dictate every single thing he does until he dies anyway, now with a reason behind it, now able to plausibly deny it being wanted. it's simultaneously an admittance of defeat, where he is telling luthen that he won, and an act of defiance, where he is challenging luthen to discard him rather than use him. and obviously luthen would rather use him.
but then there is the bix aspect. cassian's hopelessness at the end of s1 implies that he did not, at that point, see bix as an adequate reason to keep going. not as a reason to stay alive, not as a reason to stay present in anyone else's life. it was not worth remaining an individual, for her sake or his own. and obviously a lot of that is from the insane depressive grief that the whole Ordeal of s1 + losing maarva was. but still. he was very closed off, and singlemindedly thinking about his own ability to give himself to the rebellion. which makes his protectiveness over her in s2 all the more compelling. he is repeatedly getting worked up over her well-being, and acting out in ways that are possibly jeopardizing to the rebellion. it's such a fascinating transition, and regardless of how they got there again, i think in season 2, cassian sees bix as his last place to be human. the one person in the galaxy he can be an individual with, rather than a tool. which is why, in my current, ever-evolving understanding of these characters, i think he gets so contradictory and confused about what he wants from her. he wants her to be strong and a soldier so they can go to war together, because the war is so terribly important to him, but he also wants her to prioritize her own safety over anything else and never put herself at risk, because if he loses her he loses himself. this is necessarily the conflict between them.
which comes to the incredible exchange between cassian and luthen about bix in episode 6 of s2, where we can see how much this conflcit is affecting cassian. he can't stand that luthen is potentially putting bix in danger, and can't stand that luthen is treating them like droids, rather than people. but then. then luthen Reminds cassian. he reminds cassian that he already surrendered his autonomy. he already surrendered his individuality. "we're not who we were when we started." cassian chose this; chose to change for this, chose to give up being a person for this. he doesn't get to now choose to put bix, his one haven, over it. she needs to be able to handle herself, because cassian asserting himself by worrying about her compromises their entire system. "you will have to decide when it becomes too large a problem." but cassian's response is the most important part: "no. that's gonna be up to you." he's essentially turning it back on luthen. if luthen expects him to remain compliant in the way his role calls for, then luthen needs to be fullfilling his side of it, and making sure cassian has an environment that he Can remain compliant in, without compromising anything. "you want my blood? you help me solve this." he is finally standing his ground on something to luthen, asserting himself in a way that is basically begging luthen to let him submit again. he wants to be part of the cause; he still wants to be able to lose himself in it, but he also needs bix, and will not give up the life he knows is possible to share with her.
#i have a Lot more i want to say about bix specifically and exclusively but i didn't know how to fit it in here#will probably make a longpost dedicated to her once i've parsed through enough of her complexities#and i want the next arc. i need to know how she is after The Ending of episode 6. bc like. no way she's just good now#but anyways#sorry for talking too much this if my first starwars longpost#i'll get more concise as i figure things out better#sooo much i am thinking about. one of the Major themes of this show in my opinion#is the nonautonomy of being a part of a system#vs the restoring humanity of connection with other people#it's present in bixcass / cass + luthen's relationships#and with dedra and syril#and luthen and kleya and mon and lonnie etc etc etc#much more to say about that. eventually#luthen rael#cassian andor#bix caleen#andor#andor season 2#andor spoilers#star wars andor#andor meta

lmao I feel like Scott would be a new level of crazy if he was yandere. Especially if his darling was someone who genuinely liked him, either romantically or platonically, or respected him as a person and a leader/ defending him when the team starts to gives him shit. The levels of obsession and possession would be astronomical.
Yandere Scott Summers x male reader
Headcanons
I love Scott summers, so much, get this guy in my life and in my bed.
I think any x-man being yandere could be so damn lethal, or just any hero, villain or vigilante in general. Especially if you are weaker than them.
Scott would be so damn much too. He is a lot in general when it comes to wanting to be on top of things, be prepared and be in control, add him being yandere on top of that and you would have no free time, social life, or freedom.
I don't think he would hurt his darling, at least not on purpose. He wouldn't break bones or remove limbs like some yanderes would, but this guy would tear you down in other ways.
Would instead tear you down with “logic”, aka how he sees things. And its so well thought out and worded that you will start questioning everything, or he's so intense and repetitive that you start thinking maybe he's right.
Scott seems like the kinda yandere who would be aware of how toxic and extreme he's being, and he would try to suppress it for as long as possible. Would go out of his way to try and force himself to stop feeling and thinking these things, but it ends up just making him worse.
He would start out just getting a little more intense in your training, because you need to be able to protect yourself. This ends up messing with your confidence and belief in yourself cuz he can be so judgmental and intense that nothing you do feels like its good enough.
Then it becomes him keeping an eye on you at all times, everything you do, everything you say, anything that might hurt you. He starts not allowing you to keep any secrets of privacy, he needs to know it all to protect you.
Evolves into him getting a tracker in you somehow, or some kinda mind bond if possible. Starts deciding your gear, what you wear, what you do.
Probably even kicks you out of the x-men for “your safety” and will squirrel you away somewhere else to keep you safe and under his control and attention.
During all of this he is still aware of how wrong what he's doing is, but I can see him just coming to accept it whilst still feeling ashamed about it. He just can't lose you, even if you keep rejecting him and Scott knows it's all wrong to keep you here and take your freedom away.
Scott would become even more unstable as things go on, as everything starts falling apart, and as he kinda radicalizes about everything. Him clashing with other x-men and all that leads to him searching you out for comfort more and more.
If you still have resistance in you, then this period would be your best option to get out since he's vulnerable and unsteady in himself and his place. You might even be able to manipulate him in return.
But it might also lead to Scott becoming even more obsessive and possessive, since you are one of the few things he has control over or knows what to expect.
This is also the period where he might become more aggressive if things aren't going well, so yeah, you can manipulate him, but he's volatile and can snap. It always breaks him afterwards though, and he feels even worse.
All the anti-mutant stuff becoming even bigger also makes Scott kinda rabid in his protective tendencies, cuz its assumed you would be a mutant too if he was your leader
Depending on how long you've been under his “custody” and how much he trusts you, you might become part of his whole team. Much to the shock of the new x-men team, cuz they wouldn't have heard from you in a long time.
It could be pretty interesting if you started copying Scotts actions back at him, becoming just as possessive and obsessive, just as jealous and over the top, after being under his attention for who knows how long.
Real toxic relationship between you two, and you both know how bad it is, but there's no stopping this ride baby. Not before it crashes.

Yandere L Lawliet Headcanons (General)
"I'm always two steps ahead of you, if not more, my sweetie." — L Lawliet.
❝ 📓 — lady l: watching Death Note again and commenting with a friend, I ended up thinking about it and decided to do some L headcanons, because I love him! 🖤 Hope you like it :) 🤍
❝tw: obsessive and possessive behavior, stalking, unhealthy relationships, mention of kidnapping.
❝📓pairing: yandere!l lawliet x gender neutral!reader.
L Lawliet is very scary because he is very smart. A detective, the best detective. He is very good at reading people, at his deductions. There is no running away from him, he will always find you.
He was already stalking you before you even knew it. Before you even knew about his existence, L was already after you. Always behind you, watching you and gathering as much information about you as possible.
L knew about everything you. What was your childhood like, your fears, your desires, your dreams, everything. There is no privacy at all with him, he wants to be able to read you like a book and he does. There's nothing he can't figure out eventually.
He began to appear in your life slowly and normally, for you at least. He just seemed like an ordinary guy who needed some sleep and straightened out his back, but that was it. You had no idea who he really was, how obsessed he was with you.
L has morals that can be easily corrupted when he becomes obsessed. He believes that he is justice and he does in his way, which is not always the right way to do it. He firmly believes in justice above all else, his justice.
He doesn't believe that what he feels, that the things he did for you are considered wrong. L is delusional enough to believe he is right, but he will never do anything against your will. He respects you enough for that.
L is a natural stalker, it's one of his hobbies as a detective. Although he doesn't persecute you in the literal sense of the word, he usually sends Watari to watch you and accompany you somewhere. Whether it's going to school or work, he'll have his butler protecting you.
He won't risk your safety, especially with Kira on the loose. You're not a criminal, but L won't take any risks. He's never made a mistake before and it won't be you he makes a mistake with. Not when one mistake could cause your death.
Always very careful, L would only reveal himself to you when he was sure he would have your trust. He is very, very manipulative and will make you trust no one else but him. Not even your family could be as trustworthy as L. He would definitely lock you up at home if he could.
L has cameras in your house, all aimed at crucial points in your house. In your bedroom, in your living room, in your kitchen, everywhere there is a camera watching you. It had become a habit for him to spend hours a day looking at the images, waiting for you.
He's not the possessive type, but L has his limits and won't tolerate someone approaching you with ulterior motives. He is very quick to think, to deduce that there is someone interested in you and he will quickly push them away from you. He usually uses his manipulation for this. L is not in the habit of killing and will never do so unless it is really necessary.
Once his obsession consumed him for good, L could no longer remain but shadows. He could no longer remain in the background, watching you take risks every day, he needed to do something. And he did, during one night, you woke up in an unfamiliar room and with a pale guy, sitting in a strange way, staring at you intensely. You were finally with him.
You may think you're smarter than him, that you can get away from L, but he'll always be two steps ahead of you. You have nowhere to run. L would finally have you and he wouldn't let you go.

I can only think of whoever they encounter first on the surface whether that be Alpha Trion or the High Guard just laying into the rest of the group on how could they bring a carrying mech up here? Don't they know how dangerous it is?
The miners including the one who's sparked up: What. What are you talking about?
The hit of suprise parenthood to both D-16 and Orion when they were following the exact script of sire and carrier subconsciously: increased sex drive so sparkling has plenty of transfluid to grow big and strong, wanting to stick together even more than they already were, and Orion was even feeling queasy in the mornings.
Imagine having to explain to someone who's 9 months pregnant and showing that their stomach isn't just doing that for funzies, there's a baby in there.
I imagine that Optimus got thrown into sub level 50 when he was 4 months pregnant. And he and the rest of the gang survived on the surface for about 5 months.
They learned the trains were carrying energon, thanks to theirs flipping over, crashing. (D-16 curling around Orion protectively) only giving them a single box, that the 3 (Orion tried, but D-16 snapped at him that he couldn't and that he was injured. He wasnt.) carried
They spent their time walking, trying to outrun the Quintizons and the elite guards. Along the way and night cycles Dee and Orion would end up fragging, quietly as the other slept. Dee getting a 'kink' of keeping his transfluid inside Orion, and Orion always obliged.
Keeping his modesty pannel closed once they were done, saying in the morning theyd drain it, but when it came time. Nothing came out, so they just kept doing it. And soon Orions belly was getting bigger, they had to slow down, taking constant breaks, or Dee just carrying him.
And they were doing so well until.
"Hey this one isn't going into stasis lock."
"What are you doing? What have you done with them!?"
"Wouh. Calm down. We arnt going to harm ya. We just need you lot unconscious. Can't have you finding our secret- your carrying."
" I'm what?"
And this is where they find the high guard. Seekers are immediately on Orion, checking him over, doting on him, getting him a soft place to sit next to Starscream (because really that's the only place this small bot won't get stepped on) who is just looking him over worriedly.
Getting everyone else activated Starscream starts railing on them on how they've been treating their carrier. Malurished(as they had to ration, and even as Orion took more because he was getting hungrier.) And starving. At least the Sires been keeping up with the transfluid donations, but still that gives them no excuse to take this carrier out of the safety of Iacon. They have been lucky, supper fragging lucky to have been found by them and not Sentinels gang.
And it's here they learn about how crappy Sentinel is. "That can't be true."
"Want to see for yourself little one." Cue Ravage spying on them, and the feed coming back to Soundwave who gives them all the feed back.(since this is still early, not even close to the story happening. There is no fear of miners getting overworked. Yet. But it's enough to have Dee raging and wanting to fight. He still gets his fight with Starscream, but it's not violent since no t-cog.
The others learn what it I'd meant to be a high guardsmen. As Orion is supper close to emergency, they don't want to leave the safety of the High guards, so they become scouts. They also learn what sex/safe sex and pregnancy is.
When emergency day comes. Orion has the help of high guard medics. The birthing is rough but soon, there is a little protoform, wailing, cold to the new world, and when placed on Orions chassis, he holds his baby close and just cries. He's been carried in his forge for 9 months making him suffer. And he decided to look exactly like his sire.
But it truely is a happy day for everyone,, mostly.
"Hey. We got a problem."
"What kind?"
"Airachnia kind, seen very close."
"Get these mechs to the emergancy base.
Where is that. Uhh supper close to where the primes were killed.
And hell wouldn't you know. Alpha Trion is still alive. And are those bots without their T-cogs. That will not do.
Starscream? Why are you crying? Oh yes, of course big old hug. Oh and Is that a sparkling. He hasn't seen them in. How long has he been in stasis?
Alpha Trion joins the party.
#valveplug#mild valveplug#mech preg#mechpreg#megop#dpax#tf one#oop this got long#sorry not sorry#we fixing the timeline#no dead alpha trion route lets go!!!#transformers one#accidental sparkling acquired

I love how Matthew falls for Diana approximately seconds after meeting her. Literally, he catches the book and starts flirting with her immediately.
He follows her to a coffee shop and justifies it by telling himself he has to warn her about how interested everyone’s going to be in how she got 482, and when she’s like “are you threatening me?” he’s genuinely confused and distressed, because he doesn’t understand why he is so pressed about being helpful to her.
Then he shows up in the library sitting directly opposite her spot, having persuaded himself she needs to be protected from the other creatures, but actually, he’s there for another opportunity to flirt with her. He’s not silently watching over her, he is sitting as close as he can to her favorite spot, specifically so she has to make eye contact with him and he can talk to her
He breaks into her apartment to look for the book (doing a fairly lazy job), then stalks her to the boathouse and his first question is about her safety. Then he remembers what he’s there for and asks about the book. The picking up and sniffing of her jacket? You don’t sniff people’s clothes unless you’re already interested in them.
Then he runs away to Hamish the second he realizes he’s into her, specifically so Hamish can tell him to leave her alone, so then he can persuade Hamish he has to see Diana because she’ll only be safe if he gets the book from her so no one comes after her. This is classic persuade someone else to justify it to yourself.
And the second he gets back, he sees that Diana is looking for him, and he is 100% a goner from that moment. Logic has come to matter to him less and less over the course of the first two episodes.
When she goes looking for him, he completely loses his grip on reality. He starts saying nonsensical things and making irrational decisions at that point, in order to justify himself. He shows up the next day having cased the library to be sure it’s full of creatures so that he can pretend he’s not asking her out on a day trip to his historic mansion to try to impress her, no she has to go with him for her safety. He decides she has to leave Oxford, with him, and go meet his mother, a vampire who famously hates witches, on an extended trip in a historic castle (gotta up the ante from mansion).
Literally no one could have been after them and Matthew would have still made ridiculous irrational decisions in order to be with Diana. I love that for him. He loses his mind very early on, and he does not ever get it back. Sanity? He doesn’t know her.

The Boys Preference: Public Displays of Affection
Requested: Heeyy, love your writing! I wanted to request a preference with the boys + HM and SB about how they would be with PDA. Thank youuu 💚💚💚💚 - anon
A/N: Thank you for requesting my love!! I hope you like it! This was so cute to imagine omg :D Feedback is always appreciated 💕
Butcher is allllllll about PDA. Most of the time, it includes a hand on your ass, but he's not against more of the innocent touches. To make a point, he'll kiss you pretty passionately, making sure the person who was hitting on you knows you're together. He's all about touching and being close. He doesn't even realize he's doing it. He just sort of gravitates towards you when you're together. He's really possessive and protective, and it just comes out through PDA. He's not big with words. He might call you "love," but he's far more comfortable with physical affection than anything else. Everyone groans or makes jokes about the PDA between you two, but neither of you care. He says they're jealous, and that makes you smile. Maybe it can be a bit much sometimes, but you know it's just because he cares, he worries, and he needs you close. When you're afraid or worried or just tired of this life, the PDA can be a huge comfort. It reminds you, you have Butcher. That, through it all, you'll always have him. He'll be your constant even through the hardship.
Hughie can be pretty shy with PDA. He really loves hand holding and playing with your fingers, but that's about as far as it'll go. Hughies pretty awkward when it comes to relationships and PDA. He's also really shy and awfully aware anything could make you uncomfortable. He never wants to step over the line, so he sticks to the most innocent forms. When he's scared or worried, he'll instinctively reach out and squeeze your hand. That's when you know this life is getting to him. You squeeze back, neither of you looking at one another, but using these moments to reassure one another wordlessly. You're never the first to let go. If or when he's okay again he'll let go, but you never want to leave him alone with his fears when he's feeling overwhelmed. Whatever kinds of affections Hughie shares are cherished. He's so shy with his love, so careful, it makes it so much more special when he does decide to show off a little.
Annie isn't as shy as Hughie, but she definitely knows what she can and cannot do. Because she's a public figure, she wants to do everything in her power to keep you safe. Homelanders allies and fans will do anything to hurt her and, by association, you. You've gone to a few red carpets together, but since she's stepped back from The Seven, her PDA has changed a lot. She used to pose for pictures with you and kiss you in public and now it's a lot more subdued. She'll hold your hand, but she scared if she did anything more, Homelander and Firecrackers fans would come after you. Not to mention the paparazzi that still follow her (and you) around on occasion. She loves you, of course she does, but she doesn't want your name dragged through the mud because you're in a relationship with her. Not that she listens to it, but she's heard from coworkers that Misty, on her show, talks shit about you and your relationship together. She wants to do everything in her power to protect you.
M.M. doesn't really "do" PDA. He has nothing against it. It's just not something he partakes in for a variety of reasons. The biggest is safety. He might not be in the limelight like Annie, but this life is dangerous, and it puts a target on your back when others know you're important to someone. If any Supe ever found out that he cared for you, and that got you hurt, he'd never forgive himself. Another reason is that he doesn't love constant contact. His hands get sweaty, and he's never sure if it's the right moment (because something is always going wrong - is there ever a good moment?), so it's just easier to avoid. He's affectionate with words, often calming you down or reminding you how much you mean to him, but the physical aspect just isn't something you do as a couple. Of course, he'll always hug you and make sure you're okay, but that's about as far as it goes. Neither of you is big on PDA, so it's not a big deal. He just wants to keep you safe. You're in enough danger as it is, he doesn't need Homelander or a Supe seeing him holding your hand, kissing you, etc. That puts an extra target on your back. If anything ever happened to you because of your relationship he'd never forgive himself.
Frenchie can go either way. When he's got something on his mind, when he's feeling particularly bad or guilty or ashamed about his past, he pulls away from PDA. He isolates himself from you. Not because he blames you or anything, but because he doesn't think he's deserving of your love or affection. When he's feeling less self-deprecating, he's all about PDA. It can hurt when he pulls away, but he makes it clear you have done nothing wrong. It's a cycle he follows where he pulls away, retreats into himself, only to understand you're hurt by his actions, and comes back at full force. It's not a short cycle. You often have a lot of time together full of affection. It's when it starts over that makes you feel like you've done something wrong, said something to make him feel bad. Frenchie feels horrible when he realizes what he's done, but he just can't bring himself to stop it. It definitely creates issues in your relationship. He never meant to do this, it's just something that he feels he has to do as a way of repenting.
Kimiko can be pretty shy with PDA. You're her first official relationship. You're both unsure, a little awkward, and shy. You never want to cross her boundaries or make her feel uncomfortable. There's a lot of communication between you. It's actually pretty sweet, genuinely innocent. The first time you grabbed her hand for reassurance, scared of Homelander and the future, you apologized after. She just smiles and tells you she liked it. It was surprising, but not in a bad way. It's one of your go-to's: holding her hand. Occasionally, when you're feeling more carefree, you'll hug her from behind and kiss her cheek. Your friends all poke fun at you for being so shy around one another. They could all tell you liked one another. One of you just had to build up enough courage to tell your feelings. As time goes on, you and Kimiko become more comfortable, allowing yourselves to be more affectionate in the open. When you're separated and end up together again, she's always eager to hug you, hold you, and check for any injuries.
Bonus! Homelander is all about PDA as long as the cameras are rolling and the crowds are cheering. It's nothing against you. It's not as if he's done with you when the curtains close. He's stressed out and angry and dealing with so much, mainly Butcher and The Boys. He doesn't really think about PDA outside of the public eye. It's a stark juxtaposition you have to learn to get used to. He's so loving and sweet and kind when you're being interviewed. As soon as it's over, his smile drops, and he becomes his upset, distant self again. The first time it happened, you felt wounded. Did he hate you? Was it all just an act? When he notices this, he assures you it had nothing to do with you. He's just stressed. It's not easy being the leader of The Secen nor is it easy keeping Vought together when it seems like everything is falling apart and everyone is a complete fucking idiot. It's not about you or the way he feels about you, it's just how things have to be.
Bonus! Soldier Boy's PDA borders on vulgarity. He's always got his hands or lips on you. When he loves, he loves with his whole being. That means serious make out sessions in front of people who assumed you were single or his arm around your waist, showing everyone that you're together. He gets insanely jealous over the smallest looks, the most innocent of comments. He can bet pretty handsy and, at times, go a bit overboard to the point of being inappropriate for most viewers. When you're around The Boys, they're pretty vocal about your PDA and will cut it off if they think you've gone too far. Ben can't help it. You're his everything. He makes sure everyone knows that you're his everything. That you're with him. He also loves the more PG13 touches like hand holding or hugging. He's constantly touching you one way or another. It brings him a lot of comfort knowing you're around, close by, that you're there for him no matter what.

Dating Yandere Bucky Barnes Would Include:
He‘s a dominant yandere, not the possessive one who keeps you locked up in a basement, but not exactly the cute and shy one either.
He‘s protective, jealous and a bit possessive. He enjoys teasing you and flustering you, but he’s still a bit distant at first. When you finally get him to warm up to you, things change.
He’s not the type to force things, but he can get a bit intense and jealous when it comes to you. He’s aware of his own strength and doesn’t want to scare you, but sometimes his protectiveness or jealousy takes over, and he can’t think clearly.
He’s a bit rough around the edges and can come off as cold and closed off, but he secretly craves affection and connection.
He has a strong sense of loyalty and once he decides you’re his, he will do anything to keep you safe and happy. He’s a bit of a lone wolf, but once you break down his walls and get through to him, he’ll be the most devoted and fiercely protective partner you could ever ask for.
Bucky tends to be guarded and stoic, especially around strangers. He rarely smiles and often comes across as standoffish, keeping a neutral expression. Sometimes, he can come off as rude, especially when someone gets on his nerves or annoys him.
He’s very big on reassurance, especially when it comes to you. He wants you to know that he values you and that he cares deeply about your feelings and well-being. He can be quite affectionate and sometimes gets a bit too worried when you seem distressed. He might try to brush it off and act like he doesn’t care, but he’ll always be there to listen and comfort you when you need it.
Bucky loves to reward you. He’s not big on materialistic rewards, but he knows that a bit of pampering can go a long way. He might give you a treat or something small to show his appreciation, but above all else, he enjoys physical touch and intimacy as a way of showing gratitude.
Bucky rarely resorts to punishment, especially not physical ones. He knows he has a lot of strength and doesn’t want to hurt you. His punishments usually take the form of teasing, withholding affection or the silent treatment. He’s a bit of a brat tamer, and if you’re being bratty, he’ll find a way to put you in your place, usually by outwitting you and getting you to submit.
Bucky can be prone to intense mood swings. When he’s feeling vulnerable or angry, he can become increasingly unhinged, becoming hostile and even violent. He has a tendency to say things he doesn’t mean, lashing out at you with harsh insults and blaming you for things that aren’t your fault.
When he’s in the midst of one of his “episodes,” he can be downright scary, with a wild look in his eyes and a dangerously unpredictable demeanor. He also tries to manipulate you into thinking that you brought it on yourself.
Well, his friends are used to it. Steve and the other Avengers can sometimes be a bit annoyed by his overprotectiveness when it comes to you, but they understand why he acts the way he does. They’re aware of his past and how it affects him. The rest of the world might think he’s cold and distant, but they don’t know the true extent of his possessive tendencies and his extreme lengths to protect you.
He’s a bit touch-starved, and his love language is definitely physical touch. He enjoys giving and receiving affection, whether it’s a simple hug or a long, intense make-out session. However, his need for affection can sometimes border on clinginess. Sometimes he’ll act like a needy child, wanting your attention and affection at all times. He might even pout or sulk if he doesn’t get it.
Bucky has a dark past, and he’s no stranger to violence. If he believes someone has hurt you or is actively threatening your safety, he will not hesitate to resort to lethal force to protect you.
Bucky tends to be more of a low-key date kind of guy. He’s not into flashy or extravagant gestures, instead preferring a more casual atmosphere. He might take you for a walk in a local park or suggest going out for a drink at a quiet bar.
He’s also a bit old-fashioned and can be a bit of a traditionalist. He might open doors for you, pull out chairs, and occasionally pay for things like a proper gentleman. He really enjoys just spending time with you.
He’s a bit protective of you and can be a bit over-reactive when you get hurt. Even though he recognizes your strengths and abilities as a hero, he can’t help but worry about you when you’re out on missions or in dangerous situations. He tries to support you the best he can and understands that you have your own responsibilities, but it doesn’t stop him from hovering and wanting to keep you out of harm’s way as much as possible.
He’s definitely more comfortable with you being a villain than a hero, especially since he’s not exactly known for playing by the rules himself. He might even find the idea of you being a “bad girl“ a bit of a turn-on. However, he’d probably be a bit jealous of you having your own villainous sidekicks or goons, and he might make some possessive remarks about wanting you to focus all your attention on him.
He might not go as far as having a traditional shrine, but he definitely has a collection of little trinkets and mementos related to you. He has pictures of you hidden around his room, along with any small gifts or objects that remind him of you. He also has a few articles of your clothing that he keeps close by, and he might even put together a scrapbook of important moments or memories that you two shared. It’s not explicitly labeled as a “shrine,” but it’s pretty close.
Bucky isn’t the type of yandere to push marriage on you too quickly. He wants you to be absolutely sure that you want to spend the rest of your life with him, especially considering that he can be a bit intense and possessive. He might bring up the topic of marriage after you’ve been together for a while, but he’ll mostly just drop hints and subtle comments about “spending the rest of your lives together“ or “growing old together."
Bucky never thought he’d get a chance at normalcy or a family, so the idea of having children with you is something he takes very seriously. Like marriage, he’s not gonna bring it up right away, but he definitely wants to start a family with you. He’ll start dropping subtle hints about “our future“ and “the family we’ll have someday," and he might even have a few baby names picked out in his head.
He would be disappointed and even saddened by your decision. He may try to convince you to change your mind, or even go behind your back and sabotage your efforts to prevent pregnancy, such as tampering with birth control methods. If you remain firm in your decision, he may go as far as to try and get you pregnant against your will. He will probably still love you dearly, but it will consume his mind and lead to unhealthy levels of obsession.
"You're mine. You belong to me and you always will. Don't forget that. I'd do anything for you, I'd kill for you, I'd take a bullet for you. And don't even think about leaving me because I'd never let you go. You're stuck with me, sweetheart, and there's nothing you can do about it."
Extreme bondage - Restraining you in elaborate, painful setups, like suspension or spread-eagled positions, to emphasize total subjugation.
Edgeplay - Engaging in risky, borderline non-consensual activities like knife play, gun play, or medical-themed fetishes to push limits and assert power.
Free use - Initiating sexual contact with permission for when, where and however, using force or coercion to overcome resistance and prove his dominance.
Objectification - Treating you as an inanimate object for his pleasure, ignoring your agency or comfort, and using you for his own arousal.
Breathplay - Engaging in activities that restrict airflow, like choking or gagging, to heighten arousal and assert control over your very existence.

Their Eyes, Your Chains
Yandere Agatha & Rio Headcanons
Agatha Harkness x Rio Vidal x Gender Neutral Reader
AO3: Their Eyes, Your Chains
Word Count: 1K
Warnings: Possessive/obsessive behavior, yandere, manipulation, threats, stalking, jealousy
| Agatha
Agatha first discovered you on the outskirts of Westview. The instant her eyes landed on you, something primal stirred deep within her – an insatiable hunger that she couldn’t quite place. You looked so fragile, so misplaced in a world that would sooner consume you than offer kindness. At that moment, she knew she had to have you. You were perfect.
To ensure your safety – and her claim on you – Agatha placed a magical sigil on you, visible only to her. It would flare up if you strayed too far from her or if someone with ill intent approached you. You were hers and she would not tolerate anyone or anything that dared to threaten that bond.
Agatha controlled every aspect of your life – where you went, who you spoke to, and how long you stayed away from her. She masked her actions as “protection,” but the truth was clear: her obsessive need to keep you close drove her every move.
She was territorial. To Agatha, you belonged to her, and she allowed no one else to get too close to you.
Despite her possessive nature, Agatha showered you with attention, gifts, and affection, but her love still felt suffocating.
When you pushed back against her control, she alternated between cold fury and honeyed words, making you feel guilty for wanting freedom. “You don’t understand, darling. I do this because I love you. No one else will protect you the way I can.”
If you ever did manage to leave her, Agatha would go to terrifying lengths to bring you back. She would track you across the ends of the earth, twisting reality itself to prevent your escape. She might even cast a powerful spell to trap you in a dreamlike illusion, where you were blissfully happy and unaware of her manipulations, ensuring you would never wish to leave her side again.
Agatha’s most severe threat was to bind you to her permanently with a soul-link spell, tethering your life force to hers so escape would be impossible. “You are mine.” Yet, unbeknownst to you, she had already decided to cast it the moment she met you.
She frequently called you terms of endearment like “darling,” “my love,” or “pet.”
Agatha wanted you, and she would stop at nothing to ensure that you were entirely, irrevocably hers.
| Rio
As the personification of death, Rio saw you as someone destined to be hers. All living things would inevitably belong to her in the end, but she didn’t want to wait for that – she wanted you now and forever. Her obsession with you felt timeless, as if it had always existed, lying dormant until the moment it could finally flourish.
Rio preyed on your fear of mortality to keep you dependent on her, constantly reminding you how fleeting your life was and how frail you were compared to her eternal nature. “They’ll all leave you eventually. But me? I’ll always be here. Isn’t that what you want – someone who’ll always be here for you?” Her words burrowed into your mind, twisting your emotions until you could no longer tell if remaining by her side was truly your choice or hers.
When she was in a particularly indulgent mood, Rio could be achingly sweet with you, though her sweetness was always laced with a dangerous possessiveness. She would hold you as if you were the most fragile thing in the world, her hands cold but her touch inexplicably soothing. Yet in the same breath, she would whisper unsettling things like, “You're mine, sweetheart... forever and always. No one else can ever have you.”
Rio doesn’t tolerate anyone getting too close to you. She was convinced that she alone was worthy of being by your side. After all, she was inevitable, eternal – the one destined to claim your soul in the end.
If she perceived anyone as a threat to her claim over you, they had simply disappeared. When you confronted her about it, Rio’s dark eyes narrowed, and her voice carried a chilling warning: “I don’t like sharing. Do I need to remind you what happens when people overstep?”
If you dared to defy her, Rio would turn volatile. She would threaten to bring death to those you love or cause harm to innocent people, showing you the lengths she would go to keep you bound to her. She would make you feel like you were the one in the wrong, insisting that only you could “end her loneliness” or that no one else could ever understand her the way you do.
In extreme circumstances, Rio would remind you in a low, bone-chilling voice that no mortal can escape death – and by extension, her.
No matter how far you fled, no matter how cleverly you tried to hide, Rio would always find you.
She didn’t just crave your love – it was deeper, darker than that. Rio demanded every piece of you, body and soul.
To her, you were the flickering light in an eternal void. You were her meaning, her obsession, her undoing.
| Agatha & Rio
God help you.
Agatha and Rio had both claimed you as their own. Neither of them could imagine a reality where you belonged to anyone but them, and each had made it clear that you were theirs and theirs alone. “You belong to me, just as you belong to her.” They would whisper, almost in sync.
Agatha’s possessiveness was passionate and fiery. She would often press herself against you, her hands grazing your arms or waist to remind you of her presence. Rio, on the other hand, had a more subtle approach – she would lean in close, her breath warm against your ear as she murmured soft, possessory words or let her fingers lightly trace the back of your neck.
Both Agatha and Rio were quick to notice any tiny change in your behavior. If you were quieter than usual, Agatha’s gaze sharpened, and she would press you for answers, “What’s wrong? Tell me.” Rio, however, will casually drape an arm around your shoulder, murmuring, “Who upset you? Just say the word.” Neither will rest until they know what’s troubling you and how to make it right.
Together, Agatha and Rio were a constant reminder that no matter where you go or what you do, you belonged to them and they’ll ensure that it stayed that way, forever.

I Got Really Into Anti/Proship Discourse And Read +30 Academic Studies - My Findings
(It’s a Yapfest but the whole post is a very long essay and study on morality and fiction and children’s safety and rape culture with a fuckton of freely accessible academic articles and resources on the subject, and I want to talk to other people about it. For a shorter abstract with all the articles and more easily ignored yapping, see my shiny new Carrd:)
It’s been a little shocking lately to have certain discussions with some parts of fandom. I spoke about shipping/harassment and how that contributes to the death of fandom on TikTok assuming that younger folks are just really, really intense about preventing sexual violence, but the more I saw the words “morally wrong” and “disgusting” and “addiction,” the more I thought about this guy-

That’s Jerry Falwell, and I fucking hate this dead guy. You see, Jerry Falwell was a preacher who hated porn, feminism, and homosexuality. And I'm seeing his rhetoric and reworked quotes a lot.
Jerry would say stuff like:
“Pornography hurts anyone who reads it - garbage in, garbage out.”
“Someone must not be afraid to say ‘moral perversion is wrong.’ If we do not act now, homosexuals will ‘own’ America!”
Jerry wanted people to believe that it’s possible to see so much sexual content that it warps your sexuality, because he was gay and wanted to think that was due to thinking about gay sex too much. Jerry did not have a lot of evidence to prove that homosexuality was harmful, so he relied heavily on how “morally distasteful” it seemed to be to suburban Americans.
I spent the majority of my teen years arguing against Jerry’s rhetoric for the right to live as a lesbian online, and I never thought I’d see morality rhetoric in people I’m otherwise very politically aligned with. And I definitely never thought fandom of all things, in all its beautiful subversive glory, would seriously start advocating for censorship, anti-porn, and to consume fanwork with moral purity.
So, I’d like to have a deeper discussion on it, both here on Tumblr and on TikTok, but that does mean checking a few things at the door:
Personal feelings decide your personal life. What you feel is valid for you, not anyone else.
In general, things that do not cause direct and undeniable harm should not be broadly prohibited just because they’re weird or distasteful to the majority of folks. Ex. Loitering does not cause harm and is a tool of systemic oppression.
The discussion of “fictional CSEM” is the most inflammatory fork of this and it is often used to derail these kinds of conversations. This is all I will say on it - the legal status of explicit visual depictions of minors is muddy. In the US, there is just one dude in Utah who pled guilty for possessing explicit lolicon he bought by mail order without also possessing CSEM with real children, and explicit writing about fictional minors has been settled as protected free speech. Dedicated organizations from the NCMEC to Chris Hansen have asked that fictional content is not reported as CSAM as it is not actionable and clogs up finite resources. 90% of NCMEC reports were not actionable last year. There are studies suggesting that virtual CSEM or other non-victim alternatives could reduce actual child harm, but there is need for further research.
We’re all in agreement that untagged NSFW is not cool, and kids deserve kid-only sections of the internet. People who are triggered by or dislike problematic content deserve to be able to not see it. 👍
(I’ve seen the argument that blocking tags/people should not be required - sorry, PTSD still requires that you manage your triggers, up to and including swearing off platforms just as I have sworn off bars/soap brands/etc to avoid my triggers.)
I have found a lot of accessible and free articles and studies that I will link throughout so that we can discuss the fact-based reasoning, in an effort to have a civil conversation.
(Also because we are not flat earthers, we are Fandom, and if we’re going to be annoying little shitheels in an “Um Actually” contest, we’re going to have the sources to back it up.)
Minors and Explicit Material
I’m not supporting minors engaging with explicit material. I have such little interest in the subject that I’m not even going to bring in articles, but you can feel free to. I personally engaged with explicit material as a preteen of my own free will and did not find it to be harmful, and the majority of people throughout human history have been exposed to explicit material at an early age with varying degrees of harm. There are undeniable legal and harm-driven differences between a 12 year old girl looking at Hustler on her own, a 14 year old boy being sent nudes from a grown woman, and a 6 year old viewing PornHub. (And I think the guardians of that 6 year old should be charged with grooming just like the woman, tbh.)
Personal Disclaimer
I’m an adult survivor of CSA and incest. I’m a happily married adult. I don’t personally like lolicon/shotacon/kodocon. I don’t like kids. I don’t like teens. I’m personally not attracted to underage fictional characters. I have family, the idea of fucking any of them makes me want to throw up and die, so I don’t write or read RPF of my family.
I am really, really fucking intense about preventing sexual violence, supporting survivors, and fandom, which is where this all comes from.
I read and love problematic fiction - my favorites are ASOIAF, Lolita, and VC Andrews. The most “problematic” thing I’ve personally written are Lucifer/Michael fics from Supernatural back in 2012. They are “brothers” in CW Christ, not blood. They do not have any blood.
Gen Z and Online Grooming
In 2002, a survey of 1500 minors from 10-17 found that 4% had been solicited for sexual purposes by an adult online.
In 2023, that number increased to 20%.
While the linked 2023 Thorn report suggests that the vast majority of these inappropriate interactions happened on platforms that allow for interpersonal communication, which by and large minors were greatly discouraged from and had less access to in the early 2000’s, a trauma-informed approach does not allow for blame to fall on the children. The guardians of those children have monumentally failed to restrict and educate before giving children the means to access those platforms.
It is my uncited but personal opinion that the increased rate of grooming, as well as an increased interest in combating rape culture, has led to well-intentioned individuals to become digital vigilantes attacking those who they hold responsible for their traumatic experiences in a search for catharsis and justice denied for themselves as well as a desire to make the internet safer for other children, whom they are increasingly aware are entering online spaces unsupervised at distressingly young ages.
Is harassment and bullying bad for perpetrators of it?
Before we get into how ship-related hate campaigns do not affect predation or combat rape culture, we should acknowledge that it’s actually pretty harmful for the people who cyberbully. Not just in the legal/social consequences, but people who participate in cyberbullying and cyberhate campaigns have higher rates of depression, estrangement from their parents, self-effacing habits, social anxiety, lower empathy, and so forth.
One study suggests that the treatment and prohibitive for cyberbullying, which contributes to a culture of cyberhate and a lower likelihood to report or confront other incidents of harassment or toxicity online, can be combatted with media competency to increase empathy along with other important life skills.
Some Common Pro-Censorship Myths
“Pornography is Addictive/Consumption of Pornography Leads to Increasingly Hardcore Imagery And Ultimately Real-World Violence” - The American Psychological Association does not recognize Porn Addiction as real and the DSM-5 does not classify it as an addiction. Additionally, many methods used in articles claiming that porn is addictive or causes users to seek out more hardcore material were flawed or biased. There is actually some evidence that compulsive porn use, the closest you can get to a porn addiction diagnosis, is associated with shame and the user’s belief that pornography is morally wrong, which sex-negative attitudes encourage.
“Jaws caused shark culling” - That's unfortunately a simplification that ignores a LOT of surrounding context. WW2’s modern naval battles with an increase of ship sinkings and thus contact with sharks prompted the invention and use of shark repellant by aviators and sailors in the 1940’s. The most deadly and famous shark attack of all time was the USS Indianapolis sinking in 1945, which led to 12-150 deaths. The 1974 book Jaws by Peter Benchley, which was the entire basis of the movie, was inspired by One Fucking Dude who started shark hunting tours and overall seemed to have a really immaculate vibe. The interstate highways that finished in the 1950’s increased beach tourism in the 60’s and onwards, inspiring the American surf culture, further increasing the cultural desire to purge sharks for the new swath of beachgoers and their fondness for using surfboards which make them look like seals to sharks. Additionally, 1975’s Jaws inspired a huge desire for education about sharks, and the relationship between problematic media and education will be the core of this yapperoni pizza.
“The Slendermen Killings/Other Fiction Inspired Crimes” - The ACLU states that “There is no evidence that fiction has ever driven a sane person to violence.” Inspired crimes are indeed no less tragic, and thankfully rare, but people who suffer from inability to discern reality and fiction do not necessarily need fiction to commit violence. The “Son of Sam” murder spree was not inspired by a book or movie, but instead Berkowitz’ auditory hallucinations.
“Violent videogames DO cause violence” - After a great deal of funding and study, the American Psychological Association has concluded that teens and younger may have increased feelings of aggression and not necessarily physically violent outbursts as a direct effect, but older teens and young adults do not encounter statistically meaningful rates of aggression.
“Your brain can’t tell the difference between fiction and reality” - Factually incorrect. Children as young as 5 years old can tell the difference, and they can even be more suspicious about “facts” that come from sources they know also host fiction, such as TV shows.
“This stuff shouldn’t be online because it can be used to groom a child” - While I could not find specific statistics on how often pornography is used to desensitize child victims, nor how often that is specifically used in online grooming, and especially not how much of that pornography is made from fictional characters - out of a mixed group of convicted offenders with adult and child victims, 55% of offenders used pornography to manipulate their victim. I would never refute that explicit fanart or fanfic could be used to desensitize a child, but that is by far not the only tool (asking about sexual experiences/identity, making jokes, etc is extremely common grooming behavior), and there is no evidence to suggest that it is used to a statistically significant degree. In my own anecdotal experience, normal vanilla legal pornography is used with far greater prevalence, and there isn’t a similar movement to shame its production for that possibility. Nor should the creators of any material, pornographic or otherwise, share blame in the actions of a predator.
The Fiction Affects Reality Carrd
(No hate to the person who made it, in fact I give props to them for trying to find unbiased sources, I just want to point out that their interpretations of their articles are kinda flawed and one of their studies is a kind of a perfect example on small and culturally biased samples.)
Reading Fiction Impacts Aggressive Behavior - (I cannot access the full study but this article is the primary source used in the Carrd and it goes into detail) - A study showed that 67 university students were more annoyed with a loud buzzer after reading a short story about a physical fight between roommates compared to a story with nonviolent revenge. However, this study was conducted at Brigham Young University, the same campus where we got a whole video series of hot ethical takes like “I’d rather shoot a kitten than drink coffee,” so uh. Yeah. Kind of a prime example on why it’s important to have large and culturally varied sampling. (Another BYU study with 137 BYU students being odd about moral ambiguity in fiction, just because I’m starting to add Dr. Sarah M. Coyne to my list of “Sarah’s That I Dislike.”)
Your Brain on Fiction - a NYT article that describes Theory of the Mind and how fMRIs captured how readers’ minds would light up centers of muscle control when reading sentences like “Peter kicked.” The quote “The brain, it seems, does not make much of a distinction between reading about an experience and encountering it in real life; in each case, the same neurological regions are stimulated” is speaking of motor functions. Emotional centers of the brain were not included in the study.
How Fiction Changes Your World - a Boston Globe article that actually describes how people who read more fiction are more empathetic and tend to believe in a just world. It does not state that the empathy a reader feels for fictional characters extends to corrupting their moral compass. In fact, there’s such a thing as a “fictive license” to explore taboo themes more thoroughly because it is not real - 123 participants were interviewed after watching two actors play the part of detective and murderer being interviewed, and participants who were told it was fake had more varied and inquisitive responses.
The Social Impact of Books - Actually reuses the previous study about the just world, so point remains. Empathy is understanding, not mirroring.
Is Problematic Fiction Good for Survivors of Trauma?
It absolutely depends on the individual.
Writing expressively about traumatic experiences has been shown to be effective to reduce depression, or more effective in reducing dysphoria and anxiety than talking to fellow survivors, and Written Exposure Therapy is broadly prescribed to survivors of trauma, with one study centering on car crash survivors finding that WET resolved their PTSD symptoms and continued to be effective after a year.
In this study, which sadly is not available online but it is too important to leave out completely, survivors of CSA were given fictional novels about CSA and in closely reading and analyzing those stories, were able to understand their own experiences and were indeed drawn to write about their own experiences as well.
Engaging in problematic fiction, like all fiction, allows for consent as well as control. If at any point a survivor does not feel in control or wishes to stop, they can at that instant. They can even rewrite their narratives and take control of their story in fictionalizing and changing the account. They can even try to understand what their abuser felt through fiction, which is helpful considering that the vast majority of survivors had a relationship that had been positive and even loving with their abusers at times.
Is Problematic Fiction Good for Everyone Else?
It again depends on the individual.
Antis might be a little right that most people don't want to read problematic stories. In a study exploring whether fiction can corrode morals, 83% of study participants stated that they would prefer not to read a short story justifying baby murder if they had the choice, even if that exploration isn’t inherently harmful.
This very small sample study of 13 participants discussed how young women interpreted sexual themes in writing, including explicit fanfiction, and how that was beneficial and informative to explore sexual desire and examine healthy and unhealthy relationships in a safe and controlled environment.
This meta-analysis further discusses how problematic and sexual themes in YA literature are useful to illustrate what sexual violence looks like, and begin educational conversations through those depictions to break down harmful myths such as “if she didn’t scream, she wanted it.”
Empowered by the “Fictive License” previously cited, problematic fiction can be beneficial for anyone who desires and is capable of consuming and analyzing it.
This study analyzing abusive aspects of three films - Beauty and the Beast, Twilight, and 50 Shades of Gray - concluded that these abusive themes should be discussed to increase recognition and awareness, not censored based on those problematic themes.
This study of 53 women were asked to read different versions of fictional intimate partner violence flags, or “toxic behavior” like surveillance, control, etc. In every version of the story, whether the female or male had those behaviors either courting or committed, the women recognized the behavior as wrong.
Another study that reading allows for the moral laboratory to explore morality in fiction without decisive impact to corroding moral permissibility.
Is There Ever Any Point Where Fictional Interests Definitively Speak On Someone’s Morality?
In short - not really. Loving Jason Vorhees does not put you at risk of murdering campers as long as you know he’s not real. Writing Wincest does not mean you look forward to family reunions, as long as you know incest isn’t okay in the real world. The real world, where real people are harmed, is where you find the measure of someone’s character.
This Psychology Today article is the best source I could find for quotes from a fantastic book ‘Who's Been Sleeping in Your Head? The Secret World of Sexual Fantasies’ by Brett Kahr regarding taboo sexual fantasies and how they are not only common, but not inherently harmful.
There are people who enjoy problematic media in an entirely nonsexual sense, of course. I myself don’t get off on problematic media - I think it’s just interesting to explore different experiences, and I think that can be revolutionary.
Additionally, fantasies in general have almost always been in the vein of “things you don’t want to really happen in reality.” In a study of 351 asexuals, more than half reported that they fantasize about having sex, but that doesn’t mean that they actually want to. You can fantasize about dating Billie Eilish - it doesn’t mean that you’d be happy dealing with celebrity culture.
(I personally fantasize about the internet being just for adults, but in practice I think that would be incredibly harmful and isolating for at-risk youth and LGBTQ teens) Fantasies always pluck out only the bits of reality that you want to engage with.
If You Get Off On Fictional Kids, You’re Attracted to Something About Them Being Kids
Not inherently, surprisingly. Wearing a schoolgirl uniform is a pretty common roleplay, and it’s not meant to “fool” the participants into thinking they’re indulging in pedophilia. There’s a wealth of emotional and sexual nuance in that specific kink - innocence and virginity play, tilted power dynamics in ‘scolding’ the uniform wearer for dress code violations, even the concept of a sexually provocative “teenager” can be played with without shame, because the world of fetish and fantasy is separated from condonable actions for the vast, vast majority of adults. (The only study I could find on this is this small study of 100 white guys found on Facebook, which itself states it is not definitive, found that while there might be correlation between attraction to children and interest in schoolgirl uniforms, there is no proof of causation. AKA, the rectangular pedophile might indeed like square schoolgirl uniforms, but not everyone - in fact, the majority at nearly 60% in this very survey - that likes square schoolgirl uniforms is a rectangular pedophile.)
Even sexual age play between adults is not indicative of pedophilia because it exists in a setting between two adults who fully understand that the mechanics are completely fake, allowing the power dynamics that would be abusive between an adult and child to be ethically explored.
I don’t have an official-looking study to cite, but I have asked people who like content about underage fictional characters why they do so. Overwhelmingly, a lot of the ones who like underage age gaps like the fantasy of an older and more experienced character taking a younger one under their wing, to have the opportunity to commit violent and blatantly objectifying harm and yet try to create what inevitably does not truly pass as consent, but seems near enough to the characters. Some think that the characters themselves have an interesting chemistry. Some read underage fic and still imagine the characters as adults. Some like to explore the feelings of shame that the older character must feel and how they mentally compartmentalize to go forward with the relationship, and how the younger character found themself in that vulnerable position - which is exploring a harmful situation through fiction to understand how it could play out in real life.
People who like fictional incest like exploring the shameful components of that taboo relationship - and I have seen a lot of works that compare how bad incest could be to other harms, like the Gravecest route in a game with parental cannibalism. And then there are folks who like analyzing the codependency of having one person fulfill every social need - family, friend, lover, AKA Wincest.
What makes a predator if it’s not just sexual attraction?
90% of CSA survivors know their abuser, discrediting the still-entirely-too-popular Stranger Danger myth. And shockingly, only 50% of abusers are pedophiles.
That means 50% of child molesters do not have sexual interest in children because they are children, but they victimized children because they are more accessible in lieu of adult partners, with increased rates of incest.
While I could not find a specific study on the relation between dehumanization/objectification of child victims and child molesters (and if you find one, please send it to me!), this study speaks on dehumanization as a precursor to adult sexual violence.
This study, conducted on convicted child molesters in prison, showed that child molesters tend to fantasize about children while in a negative mood, further contributing to the theory that child victims are dehumanized prior to abuse.
This very small sample study found that in a mixed sample of internet only/contact crime/mixed offenders, offenders who had contact with children had lower rates of fantasizing about children.
In short, half the time a child predator is someone who wants to offend against a child regardless of attraction to the fact they are a child.
Resources To Recognize Grooming/Abuse Victims/Predators
I would absolutely be remiss to not share my collection of resources to help detect signs of abuse/grooming as well as warning signs of a predator who may be targeting elders/women/teens/children:
Darkness 2 Light is a fantastic resource overall, this page details stages and signs of grooming.
RAINN personally helped me through my PTSD journey, and this article detailing the signs of sexual trauma in teenagers is thorough and non-judgemental
Signs of abuse as well as warning signs of predation that does not use gendered language nor play into the Stranger Danger myth.
Education, not Censorship
I think a lot of the energy against taboo content among young people still has a lot to do with the desire to end rape culture. The tools that we Millennial Tumblrinas gave you Gen Z kids were snatches of leftist theory, deplatforming, and voting with your dollar, so it’s reasonable to think that removing taboo content like pedophilia, incest, rape fights rape culture.
It doesn’t.
Rape culture is fought by education. Comprehensive sex education, education about consent. Talking about what consent looks like, what sex can look like, what rape can look like.
There should be more taboo content to talk about these things, to show all the shades it can look like. From a violent noncon to fics that aren’t even tagged as dubcon yet still are in shades that are hard to suss out, we should talk about it.
A Non-Empirical Example Of Good Media Analysis and Education to Combat Rape Culture
Let’s use the example of Daemon and Rhaenyra Targaryen’s relationship in House of the Dragon. Canonically, in both the book and the show, they have a romantic relationship that appears for the most part to be positive (the show being more contentious but I dedicated an aside to Sarah Hess and our beef at the bottom of my Carrd, but feel free to ask how I feel about writing producers with any variation of the name ‘Sarah’) despite an age gap, a sexual relationship that began while Rhaenyra was a minor, and incest - the problematic hat trick if you will.
I have seen anti-Daemyra shippers condemn Daemyra shippers for “Condoning grooming, age gaps, pedophilia, and incest.” Which is not just a broad, inaccurate, and harmful statement, it’s not at all constructive or educational analysis.
It would actually be beneficial to say “Daemon is grooming Rhaenyra as a teenager with gifts, devoted attention that takes advantage of her isolation and vulnerability, frequent nonsexual touches, the extreme desensitization to sexuality in the brothel visit,” etc etc. And even so, it is not useful to say that people cannot still ship the relationship and acknowledge those aspects. They might want to further explore the issues of consent in their dynamic in fiction, they may want to strip away some of them with narrative reimagining. Some might want to ignore the taboos completely and indulge in the fantasy entirely, and some might find the actors hot as hell - AKA, anyone who watches the show.
It’s honestly a little similar to me in how Jerry Falwell would tell his followers not to watch or read or take in any media that dealt with homosexuality unless it was condemning it - even Will & Grace was on Jerry’s shitlist. And so, Jerry’s followers missed out on a lot of media that could have educated them about queerness, could have humanized queer people for them - and that did not make queers go away. Just like ignoring or shutting out media about incest, rape, and other forms of sexual violence doesn’t make those things go away - it just tends to make you less informed, and little less capable of empathy towards people affected by those subjects.
So let’s stop shaming those that ship a complicated dynamic - you get less fanworks exploring those taboos, and less of a discussion overall. You shut down the morality lab of fiction, and to be honest, it’s wet sock behavior.
Some FanFiction Specific Studies
How dubcon fanfiction can flesh out the intricacies and messiness of realistic consent
A review of darkfic written about Harry Potter in 2005 (which, I will personally attest has never been outdone in how profoundly taboo those works were)
Interviews with 11 Self Insert writers who wrote on themes of rape, abuse, control, yandere, etc, and how that was beneficial to some who had experienced sexual violence themselves
Conclusion:
H…holy shit, you actually read all of that?? Congrats dude! That is a lot of time and brain power to dedicate to any one thing!
By the way, I am not really gifted at writing articles or any of that junk, and I tried to make my hyperlexic ass a little more accessible instead of bringing out all the $5 words. I am literally just an autistic who took a couple technical writing classes over a decade ago and really wanted to sort out my thoughts and try to have a platform for discussion. Also, I am really fucking bad at math. I failed two different college level statistics classes twice each. Gun to my head, I could not tell you what a standard deviation is, which is why I worked entirely with the percentages.
And I do want to have a discussion! I would in fact like to not report anyone for sending me gore or death threats or any of that stuff! I don’t think everyone will agree with me, in fact I’m certain that you could find studies that contradict some of mine, and I’d love to discuss them!
I’m sure it will still be tempting to throw around accusations of pedophilia because sometimes, confronting your previously held beliefs is incredibly uncomfortable. If you could not do that, that would be great? I don’t like being compared to someone who profoundly abused me just because I have a different opinion on how to combat rape culture and empower survivors. If you can do that, I’ll do my absolute best to be cheerful and welcoming and respectful as well. 😁
PS - I’m also not really going to be phased if you call me weird or cringe - I am. Always have been. Cringe, weirdness, and autism have made me do and capable of doing some fantastically neat and impressive stuff. But if you try to say something like “proshippers are too yucky and weird to be in fandom” - I’m going to have to refer you to your similarity to Kate Sanders of Lizzy McGuire fame, you “prEpz >:(“ - [My Immortal, legendary author unknown]
