i've been rereading and rereading and rereading the fic series over and over and over. i thought the custard cookie iii fans had either mostly dimmed out or migrated. i only saw a fanart of the bluebell au by chance and got excited enough to see an old hypfix in the dash that i found the fic and god. i am so happy to see another cciii fan in here. you've got me watching all the new beast-yeast storyline eps for this. god you nail shadow milk's voice so well but also i've just listened to his eng voice actor and he truly does sound silly. his english voice actor is doing really well for a first impression. i might be developing another character fixation but who the hell knows. all i can say is that i am back in low-content crk hell where this time i might start actually writing for it. FUCK.

also slightly off-topic what was he doing. no i am serious what was custard cookie iii (who CANNOT be older than like 10) doing on his own chasing a puppy with a crown and when he gets adopted by a bunch of friends there is no alert raised. where was he living before that??? who was taking care of him??? why was no one looking for him??? we know his family lineage and that's like. most of everything. WHAT was that child doing. i would shake him like a pinata but i don't think he deserves that. devsisters i will shake YOU like a pinata because WHY are there so many underdeveloped characters.

for the second part, I totally get the frustration with the underdeveloped characters, and as for what custard was doing for me it really depends on the au/headcanon I'm going for. I only have 1 au where i hc him older than 11 and thats specifically because its an au set in the future of another au thats dark choco centric, and i often go for around 9, (technically it makes him 6-8 when he first meets the crew because his birthday is implied to be the anniversary date and at least 1 year has passed since he canonically attended Holly's year end ball)

I literally have an au where they spawned in one day because of a wish(an old friend of pure vanillas who wished to help him like he helped them as a form of good karma gets their wish fulfilled and the magic granted to them by vanilla becomes custard iii hence how they share similar abilities and custard is so attached to vani). And "dad" in their memories is just what they used to look like, with the old soul looking after him if he needs it.

In a fairly canon timeline I see that custard was raised by his dad, who went out the day before the adventure started and didn't come back, and custard left to go and find him, and ends up getting adopted by several parental/carer figures including but not limited to: chili pepper, rye, dark choco, madeleine, pure vanilla, dark cacao, tea knight, crunchy chip and c-arrow.

And also gets 3 new siblings in Gingerbrave Strawberry and Wizard, and forms a small chaos squad with Poison mushroom, Strawberry crepe and snapdragon.

As for what happened to his dad, idk rlly. Part of me wants to do a tiger lily conspiracy in that the St pastry order kidnapped tiger lily for her connection to holly(and by extension eternal sugar and mystic flour) and lost her when butter tiger showed up to protect her and that something similar happened to custards dad and he's currently in their hold.

Or in a complete curve ball I could say that Custard iii was kidnapped and escaped, but did not realise he was being kidnapped in his childish naivety.

Until devsis gives us more crumbs this is the best we got.

ive been listening to daft punk A LOT lately. so i come with recs.

u should listen to human after all... something abt it scratches my brain so good. apparently the album this was from wasnt very well received but its fun TO ME. daft punk i love you. also the criticism of it makes no sense to me... apparently ppl thought it was repetitive... YEAH NO SHIT, ITS DAFT PUNK???

and u should also listen to give life back to music. it sounds so UGH.... i rlly need to listen to this album but ive got another daft punk album i want to finish first. im leaving this one for last bc from the songs i know of this release it will probably be my favorite. leaving the best for last and all that. but also im too scared bc once i listen to this THERES NO MORE DAFT PUNK... SUFFERS.... altho according to the wiki theres apparently theres unreleased album that might come out? manifesting.

Funnily enough human after all is already in my playlist from some years ago when I went thru daft punk songs bc I was making a project using one of their tracks and was curious what their other tracks sounded like. It's a banger, the repetition is just part of the robot aesthetic

I rlly liked give life back to music, it had such a fun instrumental. There's smth so crunchy abt all the detailed instrumental riffs, there's so much to pick up on that it's hard to get bored even w the minimal lyrics

Because im weak for my own damn au heres some doof and byoof hcs:

-buford wants to call doof dad but is too anxious to do it other than accidentally

-doof has 100% accepted him as an honorary child however. whenever people ask him how many kids he has he says 3, before pausing and asking if they mean biologically, legally or emotionally

-vanessa and buford had no idea what to make of each other at first but he offered her some tuff gum and she gave him one earphone so they could listen to heavy metal together and they reached an understanding. They’ve said like 3 words to each other but hang out all the time

-they watched one of vanessas french films together once and buford quietly understood every word and when he laughed at a pun vanessa was like ‘?!?!!?’

-norm pats the Childe on the head. He is accepted.

-biffany and doof know each other from yoga class and she sees him as bufords babysitter. Buford has warned doof that if he hooks up up his ma its on sight

-buford had a meltdown once like Really Bad and doof instantly went into parent mode

-doof asked about bufords dad one (1) time. Biffany was busy and he asked why his dad couldnt pick him up instead. Buford didnt reply and doofs pretty aware of family issues so he dropped it and just silently decided ‘right. Time to be a dad’

-buford talks abt baljeet all the time. Doof refers to him as his ‘little friend’ or ‘little enemy’ depending on the context (“‘nemesis’ is a bit strong. I mean you’re still just kids, afterall”) and is torn between thinking its cute and being sick to the back teeth of hearing about him

-he totally gave buford ice cream and sat with him on the couch telling him he was too good for baljeet while he cried over the breakup at one point fkckdkkdfkmf

-eventually doof hears enough abt the situation he forces them both on dr feelbetter lol

-buford keeps seeing perry around doofs base and is always like “what’re you doing here little buddy? :/ *picks up and hugs* dw i got ya. Im gonna get you home :)” and perry is Dying inside because now he has to treck all the way back

-buford has never once said doofs name right and doof has never once spelt bufords name right. Equivalent exchange

-whenever buford hears an emotionally scaring backstory he’s always like ‘oof thats rough buddy’ so doof stopped telling him emotionally scaring backstories

-vanedsa bought buford an nb pride badge when he came out

-buford Does Not understand norm but they’re both batshit so they get along. Norm will be like ‘I LIKE MY EGGS CRUNCHY :)’ and buford will be like ‘wtf. …yeah same’ and they highfive

-buford cant rlly build but he likes to think he’s helping. He tends to default to his task in phineas and ferbs builds of just carrying heavy stuff to doof but doof wants him to feel included so he’ll sometimes teach him how to use a drill or lift him up so he can turn on the machine or let him add a sandwich maker to the design in the blueprints stage or snth

-buford sometimes rants about something really stupid and petty and doofs like ‘DUDE. SAME HAT.’ and then when they build an inator based it, he lets buford tell his emotionally scaring backstory of being ripped off in a yarn shop or smth

-theres always some plot contrivance that stops buford finding out doofs nemesis is perry. Always.

-perry wanted reassigning cos of this new difficulty but OWCA sucks and is exploiting him so they refused. Give this damn plat a day off

ok yea i do agree the models really arent that Good and like they do look weird a lot of the time and sometimes fuckin scary (tho there is at least like three examples i can think of where theyre like supposed to look unsettling and those are GREAT bc they rlly do) but i mean like the times shit looks kinda off and like the little oddities and sorta unpolished shit is like WHY I LIKE THE MODELS ACRUALLY DJDHDHD sometimes they are just admittedly shit looking in a way i like actually dont ironically like sjdhs but its like charming to me literally.. its kinda similar style wise to punch out wii and thats not like the best comparison bc that game is SO much more complicated animation wise but i think the style and like the expressiveness are there.. like idk i just like that like. stylized 3d cartoonyish style that not a whole lot of games have i dont think i didn't mean for this part to be that long oops

i just think like. the Not Perfectness of it kinda just makes it more like fun and memorable in a way.. like that part in the jazz album like halfway or so through fragrance if dark coffee where the saxophone starts again back at the beginning of the melody and you hear like the Grit yknow the crunchiness. thats like my favorite part of that whole thing tbh so like That's what im talking abt is the graphical GRIT do u get me

but also. i think edgeworths model most of the time looks really good actually AHDBSHDHSSBSH im not with u there im sorryyyyyyy i think like unironically they did like rlly good on him most of the time

and also in general i do think like some of the sprites or whatever look actually Unironically Good... like some of its ironic love some genuine yknow like the fact that 'no its not perfect' actually makes it easier to enjoy does any of that make sense at all

see i dislike the 3D models for those exact same reasons tbh. i do not think the models are stylized nearly enough to justify the transition to 3D and they’re just WAYYYY too far into the uncanny valley for me to be able to like them in any capacity. though i am very hypersensitive to almost-human-looking-but-not-quite stuff and have been since i was little so maybe that’s just me. i could understand liking if they were either a bit more polished or at least more stylized but for me it’s just Unsettling mostly.

to be fair i haven’t played the games they’re from yet so maybe they look better in context but from the screenshots/clips i’ve seen, i just really Hate how they look and move. it looks like they tried to mimic the sprites but a lot of the limited animations look weird in 3D. part of my dislike of edgeworth’s in particular might be my attachment to the investigations sprites of him because i think those look the best to me personally. i get liking stuff that’s not perfect BECAUSE it’s not perfect for sure, but these are just a little too far from what i’m used to and what i enjoy looking at for me to like them in any large capacity ghdkgdjf

okay, Patton makes fruit salad but LISTEN it sounds simple but he knows what everyone's favorite fruits are and makes a different salad for each person (including the grownups!!!) - like he knows roman likes to more crunchy stuff like apples and pineapple and likes them cut into donut shapes! and he knows vee likes soft berries and mango cut up into really small pieces and he knows vee needs them colour coordinated and not touching each other

logan is.... a hazard in the kitchen. not in terms of safety, but in terms of disturbing flavour combos. BUT he does make the perfect sandwiches for the littles, and patton has a CHART of the littles favourite sandwich fillings and logan is just rlly good at getting the perfect ratio of filling to bread AND he cuts the crusts off for roman and gives the extra crusts to vee because vee likes smushing them into a bread ball and eatin it hshshsh plus he cuts vee's sandwich into tiny triangles so they can eat it with their fingers when shes old enough for solid food

now for janus,,, OMG ive just decided janus makes little bento boxes for them and is rlly good at it!!! because he's good at crafting he has an eye for intricate tasks and adds loads of little details that the littles love finding like vee's fruit is arranged into a bunny shape and romans dumplings all have spanish words on that he learned from dora the explorer! so when janus is babysitting during the day then they have a "picnic" in the living room (which helps because janus can't carry vee around so its good to be based in the same room) with bento boxes that make both of the little even more excited and playful!
