Recently noticed that a few others at Hotel OJ have made some tumblr blogs, so I decided to as well! Welcome to my blog, all :)

I'm Paintbrush (they/them) and I've competed on three seasons of Inanimate Insanity! Season three just ended and I've just been chilling at Hotel OJ for a while. Not doing much else, so I'll probably be answering asks frequently.

OOC:  I post ooc, sometimes quite a bit, sometimes rarely. I am human and I will act as such. I will not tag ooc posts mostly bc i’ll forget. Sorry if that bugs people but like i said, I’m human and I like to write things down and share things with the dash.

Shipping: all muses are LGBT+ in some shape or form so if you want to ship, just let me know. They’re pretty open to anyone, though gay and lesbian muses will stay gay and lesbian. I ship toxic pairings and incest so if that’s your cup of tea, just lemme know, and we can work something out if not? That’s alright too!!

As previously stated, all ships and smut scenes are involved with characters 18+. I will never under any circumstance write something with underage characters. Characters, however, can be aged up but are never simply just for the sake of smut. Smut may happen with aged up characters but that does not mean it was done specifically for smut. Do not assume.

wait time: sometimes i can take months, sometimes seconds, sometimes days. I’m not a fast rper, please respect this.

writing: i generally prefer writing multi-para or novella. one-liners or one-paragraphs usually end up getting dropped or made into much longer threads as i have absolutely no chill.

Hi! Do you have any advice for somebody going to post their first whump story? I'm a little nervous about posting my first bit of writing to my blog 😶😶

So like, Imma be a little blunt, because that’s kinda just who I am/what I want to hear. Pls know this is said with all the love and the world I genuinely want you to succeed because I want to read it! You had me at whump, lol. 

Also all of this is off my own experience and judgment so like, take it with some salt lol.

Warning: dubious tumblr advice from a raccoon.

Notes are gonna be ~w e i r d~ at first (at least they were for me.) If you have an intro post, that thing might get like a bunch of notes as people say hi and pass it around, but that might not translate to notes on your first piece. 

And that’s okay. 

The first one is testing the water. Finding what you like and how you like to write. You’re still figuring out the length of your drabbles and how you want to set them up. 

My first drabble honestly didn’t do great on it’s own. But I don’t care, because I love that boi. 

No matter what, stick to why you like writing. If you get distracted from why you like it, then you might lose motivation and burn yourself out. Write things that you enjoy, and your people will find you! 

Don’t be afraid to change your story/characters. I changed Nik’s name after 2 drabbles (and I missed one of the name changes and his name was wrong in the for a months before I saw it). I’ve have characters do 180s and straight up refuse to do the thing. Cool, go with the new flow. Enjoy the process for what it is. 

If you’re looking for notes from the beginning (100% valid btw) then start with the whump, and tell the more character centered parts after you’re more established or through flashbacks/mentioned. People love the whump, but that doesn’t mean just physical. I personally love the emotional side, too. Angst for days!

Tag everything you can, and pls put them in the actual piece, too. Tags tend to get lost in reblog, so I (personally, like all this advice, I’m not your mom) put them in the piece itself. 

Write what you want to write, then put your little comments in the tags. I love tag notes/rants! And most everyone I talk to likes them too! It’s a fun place to show some of your own personality, and that goes a long way, too! You’re not just hands that type; you’re a person too! (If you want to be known. Also valid if you don’t want to be/prefer to be more closed off) 

I, personally, love a masterlist. Even if it’s only got like 3 links, I love me a masterlist. It shows that there’s more to come, and it’s a great pausing place for re-readers (which I am, lol) 

Make friends! It’s pretty easy here, and reblog each other’s stuff. Now, don’t make friends just so you can get a free reblog on each post, cause that’s The Not Cool, but support each other! Leave tag notes and cheer each other on! 

Overall, don’t obsess over the notes ‘cause that’ll suck the joy right out of it. Appreciate each one, of course! But don’t compare. And be patient! You’re people will find you as you find them.

Old Phandom Bullshit

This is to all the Old Phandom People.

I got back into the phandom a month or two ago and I have had a blast. There are so many new people enjoying and loving this show and it’s wonderful to see so much love for the show, especially after the collective phanbase took a hit after the trans!danny fiasco (i’m not here to debate that so don’t start pls, it just needed to be noted I saw shit take a nose dive after that)

So this revival of people so interested in the show brought back my own interest and I started following every DP blog I saw. Eventually I started recognizing people who joined around the same time as me (the 2011-2013ish era) and so I followed them as well because I was happy to see some of the older phans still around! 

But when I started following all the Seasoned Blogs I didn’t see the excitement and joy of getting new phans into a wonderful show, which is what I was expecting. Instead I saw people complaining about how the new phans don’t produce artwork anymore? How they don’t reblog anything? How they only shitpost and meme???? 

So buckle the fuck up because here is a post of all the shit the Old Phandom™ did because we weren’t hot shit and honestly? The kids throwing around memes and shitposts are better than we were because they fucking support each other.

1. Chased off any artist who was interpreted to be shipping pomp pep/shipped aged up pomp pep. 

Yeah this shit. So many artist came and went in the time I was here because they would A. either draw Danny and Vlad as getting along or B. draw them romantically (as adults) and suddenly they would be labeled a Toxic Pomp Pep shipper and they would get all sorts of notes to kill themselves. I don’t blame any of the artists that have left, we had some damn wonderful talent in the Phandom but if you treat people like trash they won’t stick around. Funny how that works.

2. Cliques

Old phandom had shit awful cliques that basically boiled down to if can draw then everyone worships you, if you do anything else you are shit. This mindset was the reason I always thought my contributions meant nothing to the phandom because the only time writing used to get acknowledged was if it was soul crushingly awful angst. (Seriously, tell me about one happy phandom classic, i’ll wait.) 

3. Shitposting you little bitches did it too don’t even front.

literally every pop culture thing that happened on tumblr was made to fit the phandom it’s how we survived for over ten years get off your high fucking horses.

4. If you don’t accept this headcanon, you are trash.

I know I said I wasn’t getting into the trans Danny nonsense but god damn it’s the reason I took such a long fucking break from the phandom.

Breakdown is

People started to headcanon Danny as trans. This was cool and awesome and was great for exploring all the fun stuff that could come with the supernatural and hero fighting etc etc. 

Then people started to say that OTHER people had to headcanon Danny as trans or they would be transphobic. 

You see, old phandom people didn’t really understand what a headcanon was and people were chased off tumblr for refusing to conform to this. 

At it’s peak one of the self proclaimed phandom leaders literally blacklisted anyone who didn’t personally headcanon this and they weren’t allowed to partake in phandom events anymore. Like legit banished from the phandom. it was fucking crazy. 

I was literally on the Anti side just because I didn’t think we should be awful to each other over this. And I loved that headcanon until the discourse hit me.

 5. Jumping down the throat of anyone new.

I used to think this was funny. 

I’ll be honest. 

Now I just see it as damn ugly behavior. 

Someone would stumble into the tag and post something innocuous like “Wouldn’t it be funny if this was called the Phandom with a PH???” and y’all would just yell at them en-mass about how stupid they are and obviously it’s already called that like no wonder we were dying as a phandom, we had a big gaping wound and we were stabbing anyone who tried to give us a transfusion I mean come on.

6. Phandom events

We had phandom events too! Phanniemay, ectober, christmas truce, and other little prompt weeks and the like. 

Problem was, the phandom only cared about the art, not the writing or headcanons or anything else so it was pretty exclusive if you weren’t someone who liked to draw, made more exclusive by the aforementioned blacklisting.

I don’t know how to end this nicely so I am just going to end it with a summery.

tl;dr

Old Phandom is trying to say that the Phandom is going downhill, but to Old Phandom any direction that isn’t their’s is wrong so maybe their view is a lil fucked.
