Blurb:

True has always wanted be a rapper and she’s finally made it but the limelight isn’t all as it seems when she meets well known rapper, Young Remi and is dragged down his crooked path.

Chapter Two

With a smile I turned to Mini and said “We have to make more!”.

“More what?” She asked with a questioning look on her face.

“More music, Mini,” I shrieked as I ran to grab my laptop and to start making a new beat.

Mini laughed out loud.

“What?”.

“I’ll start making a couple more beats after breakfast okay?” She offered before walking to the kitchen. Happy with that answer I followed her. Mama chuckled before accompanying us to the kitchen.

Mama grabbed her apron and pulled out a couple of ingredients.

“Is an English breakfast okay?” She queried.

Both me and Mini and nodded whilst we got to work making some new beats. After a few mmhs, ahhs and nahs, 3 new beats were ready.

“You know what would be cool this time?” I asked Mini. She hummed a response.

“Adding some of your vocals in them,” I stated.

“You sure, True?”

“Positive, it would go great, I mean you’ve got an amazing voice,”.

She smiled before sliding over the laptop to me, silently asking me to work my magic.

Mama had finished making breakfast and placed the plates in front of us. Grabbing her plate, she sat next to me before she spoke.

“You both are turning 18 soon, so I wanted to know if you guys had any ideas for a party,” She stated and she began to slowly spoon food into her mouth.

With a mouth full of food, I responded.

“Ee cod ave ai joint iffday patty,”.

“¿Que?” Mama asked just as Mini looked at me questioningly.

I gulped down the food and then tried again.

“We could have a joint birthday party,”.

“That’s actually a great idea, if both our parents are okay with it,” Mini said looking at Mama.

“I don’t mind, as long as your father is okay with it Mini,” She answered.

I smiled and continued to stuff my face with food

A couple hours later me and Mini sat at my computer setup, mixing up the beats and vocals.

“If you wanna start writing down lyrics or start freestyling now, I can just finish up here,” Mini suggested.

“You sure?” I asked.

“Yeah, it would be quicker for both of us,” She asserted.

So I grabbed my pen and pad and sat in my little recording corner before recording and trying a couple of things. Things weren’t flowing as well so I got Mini to quickly send me the beats so I could loop them to help imagine what lyrics worked best.

After about an hour or two, I had lyrics down for one and a half songs. I took out my headphones with the specific beat on loop and sighed before plopping down on my bed.

All the lyrics didn’t come to me at once and I understood that but sometimes I couldn’t help but feel defeated when I couldn’t get all that I wanted finished in a certain time frame.

“True, look it’s fine, let’s go out and have a little air before we come back to this,” Mini reassured,

“We can go to a cafe and just sit down and have a breather,”.

I nodded and began to pick out some appropriate clothes.

I told Mama where we were headed and kissed her cheek before we walked out the door. Mini and I jogged to the cafe just down the street to my house.

We sat at one of the tables before waving to the server, none other then Zenith. I turned to the drinks menu on the table but Mini was stuck staring at Zeni.

“Mini,” I whispered, I got no response.

“Mini,” I murmur a little louder still no response, so I poked her.

“Hey, what was that for True?” She asked, her eyes in mock anger.

“You were staring,” I laugh.

She turned away from Zenith to look back at me, her dazed look leaving her face.

She grabbed the other menu before glancing through it.

“What are you getting?” She questioned.

“Probably a iced mocha,” I disclosed, “You?”.

“I’m set on some chamomile tea,” She smiled before pausing.

“What?” I ask.

“You know I talk a lot about my love life a lot but I’m not hearing much coming from you,” Mini observed.

“I mean there’s been not much to it since Vincent,” I retort.

“You guys still talking?,” Mini asked with narrowed eyes.

I bowed my head down to appear as if I was looking at the menu again before I muttered a response.

“Sorry, I didn’t quite catch that, can you repeat yourself?” She smirked.

I galnced downwards again before I whispered “A little bit,”.

“Seriousl-“ Mini started before she was cut off by Zenith.

“Hi, can I take your order?” She inquired with a warm welcoming smile on her face, her colourful head wrap gleaming against the colouring of her uniform. Zeni quite literally glowed.

“One iced almond mocha and a chamomile tea,” I confirmed with a small smile on my face. With a nod, Zeni wrote down the order as she walked away from the table to the kitchen window.

And with that me and Mini fell back into conversation, laughing and joking about our carefree lives.

I don't know that I have a SHINee bias, I feel like it changes every day but I adore them all. For WayV either Ten or Kun (speaking of lovable dorky leaders).

I like SuJu as well (so many good songs!!) I haven't heard any VIXX- what's your song rec? For Pentagon now is probably a rough time to get into them haha but I would recommend looking up Shine and Naughty Boy those are my favorites, or maybe Daisy or Dr. Bebe if you like a more intense concept.

do u hv any general tips on writing? ive spent so long re reading ur fics to learn from them, and each time im absolutely amazed at how good it is, like, each word feels like it needed to be there including words like "really" "probably" "even" just small things like that, make it so real, and as if we're actually reading the character's thoughts. also, when it comes to fics, do you base it off your own life? or do you some research, if so are there any sites u use frequently? have a good day <3

First off, thank you so so much!! Wowzers! Every time someone says they've read something I wrote more than once, it makes me so, so happy!!! And to do it with the intention of learning?! Whoa! I'm so touched! Someone once told me they learned a lot whenever I did that "commentary" on coming up tails... I planned on doing that w ch. 11 of aibg (that someone requested)... maybe I should rally? Idk, if you think it'd be of some use, lmk and I'll begin this weekend. That said, I never took a writing class apart from one memoir one, so idk much. I'm also just kind of going with the flow and hoping what I write makes sense! I don't think I'd ever have enough confidence in my writing to go into a creative lit class or anything! (funny you'd say that about not having one excessive word bc I'm actively trying to write LESS... I think I always have too many unnecessary words 😂)

(vaguely answered inspo before) I do base a LOT off my own life. Mostly conversations I'm imagining with people I like. Like I have a crush on this guy (see any other post), and a few months back I saw him in a store and we didn't speak, but saw each other. i kept imagining he would wait outside when i exited and i'd walk up to him and the first thing i'd say to him, meeting him in person for the first time, would be: "i'm going to hate myself, aren't i?" "why?" he'd ask. "for having sex with you." and that obviously didn't happen, but i imagined it over and over and am always tempted to write a ST story w work enemies based on that one fantasied-conversation. does that make sense?

The easiest ones offhand are ALL of On Pride. I did get a splinter and meet a classmate at the hospital week one of undergrad. I went to dinner with someone i liked all through law school and he always knew it and it always felt like the timing didn't work, but he also was single and then went out with someone else? but i still am positive liked me? idk (this and hospital were years apart and different people). Or in paper moon, I had a think w a guy in barbados that was similar... or had the same conversation at the cloisters in ny that they have in the church about god... So point of the story: yes, a lot of things are based off dumb shit in my life, but most is based off imagined-conversations with men. also a lot on scenes from media I consume. I'll see a movie, love one plot point, think about it for weeks, and then decide to write it down. (or these days, you guys... i did a rough outline of that whole royal!au/bodyguard!au after someone put it in an ask 😂)

That all said, I don't do research for inspiration... but when I have a question (see this answer) I just google. during oh, oh I'm on fire (worth the tag even though no one will read? 😭) I called my mother so many times to ask about the 70's (i.e. did you say fridge or icebox growing up? when did grandma stop wearing panty-hose?). So that's basically it? (i even read a book specifically for that though!). No specific websites. Sorry I can't be of more help!

And then, finally, general tips:

just write. That’s the most important. Edit later if that helps. Just keep writing.

I am a pro-outliner. But sometimes that doesn’t work for everyone. I love it because I can lay out the big things and then see where I have gaps. And when I need motivation, i already have the section basically drafted. So if I’m having to force myself (which happens — it’s work. There is always a few parts (sometimes more) of a fic I have to grit my teeth through), I already have what I want to say outlined and can just write it out and by the time I finish that section, I’m into it and can move onto the next thing. I love outlining. It helps me see the big picture too. And when I need motivation, I’ll just reread my outline.

If that doesn’t work though, then just write. And when it gets hard, see if you can just eek out one more page, even if you hate everything you’re putting down, just to get over that hurdle.

And find friends! If you ever need someone to look at your writing, let me know! I have no superlative ideas, but can always be around to talk through things/motivate!

Anyway, sorry for this morbidly long answer. I hope at least some of it was of use. And thank you for this message! It really made my day to see it as soon as I woke up!

2) I’m not entirely sure what you mean by “too involved”, so while my gut says yes, that’s fine, I want to explain that below. (apologies if it seems like i’m over-explaining; it’s one of the downsides of anon and answering all in one go vs. direct messaging lol)

if you write Max, specifically, he really isn’t observantly Jewish, nor do I really focus a whole lot on the intricacies of Jewish law in most of my fics. I’d say Max’s Jewish identity is very important to his character, but that mostly shows in how he values community and identity. He doesn’t really observe shabbat - beyond claiming sleeping in on saturdays as observance - or try to fulfil most obligations laid out in the torah, but he also wouldn’t be caught dead celebrating Christmas or Easter (and he values spending Chanukah, Pesach, and the High Holy Days with his family). For him, it’s more cultural than outright religious (there is a religious element - he had a bar mitzvah, and as mentioned, celebrates jewish holidays - but it’s not super extensive).

Max also, generally speaking, tends to view being gay as more integral to his identity than being Jewish. Being Jewish is definitely something that binds him to his best friend, Isaac, but Isaac is more involved than Max is.

Generally: Jewish characters who don’t canonically eat pork and/or shellfish should not eat pork and/or shellfish, should not celebrate Christian holidays (though valentine’s day and halloween are fine), shouldn’t convert to christianity (including express any belief in jesus as much more than... a guy who formed christianity)

the following are always totally fine by me: interfaith relationships, jewish characters buying their christian (or culturally christian) friends christmas presents (as long as those friends buy them chanukah presents).

Jewish characters don’t necessarily need to keep shabbat, wear kippot, keep strictly kosher (beyond no pork/shellfish, except for isaac, who also doesn’t mix meat and dairy), avoid skin-to-skin contact with the opposite gender, (for women) go to the mikveh every month, pray separately, or, generally-speaking, try to fulfil every obligation laid out in the torah (exception would be orthodox jews, which would not be max [or isaac]).

Honestly, as long as they’re not hitting any DNWs (or the above DNWs), I’ll be happy!
