Oneshot: It's already spring in my heart!
<Atention: Modern AU where Neil lives, and Welton’s a boys & girls school.
Warnings: Fluff; poetry; cheesy flirting; >
Words: 1k;
Note: Y/n - your name/ Y/Ln - your last name/ Y/fn - your friend’s name; As Welton is located at Vermont, i will use it's year calendar. This is based on this headcanon of my.
Plot: spending Valentine's Day with Neil P. - (gn!) reader
Also, here’s my Neil playlist, hope you enjoy it!
image font - credits to @gaydurden;
The snow was piling outside, although the winter was nearly on it's end. It was Valentine's Day week and, every student was utterly excited. Those were the days where couples bound together and love confessions were made. Happily (or not), Valentine's Day would be on Saturday, giving everyone a chance to spend with their significant others or simply ignoring the day if you might.
Mr. Keating, as a romance enthusiastic, couldn't help to give an assignment themed for the occasion. "A confession poem!" he said, which kept Neil thinking for a while. It could be either authorial or from another, already well-known, poet. He searched for hours, and yet nothing seemed to say exactly how he felt about (Y/n).
You've been flirting for a while and, although it was clear that he was into you and vice-versa, no one took action. He did invite you on dates quite often, and you both spent much time alone together (if that makes sense). But still, nothing official. Todd, on another hand, was already dating (Y/fn) for a few weeks. That made Neil both happy for his friend and worried for himself.
He was smooth with his intentions, perhaps way too smooth? But he didn't want to rush things either. Jesus, he frequently held himself back to avoid flirting with you all the time and not make you uncomfortable. Was he holding back way too much? Sure you made him feel like if an entire garden was growing out in his heart, and he could bet that bees followed you around... That's how sweet you were! But did you felt the same?
You both did talk almost every day, and you did laugh at most of his jokes. You called him by a pet name as much as he did with you, and you never excused yourself from his touches. You did flirt back every once in a while and dance with him occasionally too. Perhaps you did feel the same.
Also, Todd and (Y/fn) always encouraged him to confess. That must mean you liked him back, right? With his heart full of hope and inspired mind, he decided to write his poem. The dawn had already arrived, and Sunday was nearly on it's end. The assignment was due on Monday morning, and the students should read them out loud.
Neil did his best, 22h Todd turned the lights off, and the boys went to bed. Neil sent his usual "Good Night, Dove! Sleep well :)" and almost immediately he got the usual answer "Good night, Nightingale :)."
He locked his phone screen. "You know they like you back, right?" said Todd, "How are you so sure?" "Because it's obvious, Neil." "If it's that obvious, I would've noticed, wouldn't I?" "Indeed, but you're way too oblivious for that. And so are them, apparently!". "You're just being nonsensical..." Neil said, turning to his bed corner, "You know I'm not, but fine! Keep up with the denial." and they both give in to sleep.
Monday has arrived and tension floated by the corridors. Today was the assignment day, and nervousness was impossible to avoid. Neil woke up with a knot in his stomach and tried not to give it attention. Perhaps it would go away if he didn't acknowledge it. Suddenly his phone buzzed, Todd looked at him smirking. "Morning Nightingale, excited for Mr. K's class today?" Neil couldn't help but smile. "Morning Dove, sure! Are u?" "Ofc, see you there!" he locked his screen again.
"Shut up, Todd." "I didn't even say anything..." Todd answered, laughing at Neil's (now pink) cheeks. The three first periods were painfully slow, anxiousness keeping him from paying attention to anything at all. Until finally, Mr. Keating's class. He entered the room, quietly, "I hope you made your assignment class. As to open the day, (Y/n) would you do the honors?" and so they stand, answering a short yes to the teacher.
"I chose a sonnet from John Milton, is called 'To the Nightingale.'" Mr. Keating nodded, giving them space to continue. As Neil's heart skipped a beat, and the poets took a glance at him. (Y/n) looked at Neil for a few seconds, enough to make it even more obvious as to who the confession was meant.
Sonnet I : To The Nightingale O Nightingale, that on yon blooming spray Warblest at eve, when all the woods are still, Thou with fresh hopes the Lover’s heart dost fill, While the jolly Hours lead on propitious May. Thy liquid notes that close the eye of Day, First heard before the shallow cuckoo’s bill, Portend success in love. O if Jove’s will Have linked that amorous power to thy soft lay, Now timely sing, ere the rude bird of hate Foretell my hopeless doom, in some grove nigh; As thou from year to year hast sung too late For my relief, yet hadst no reason why. Whether the Muse or Love call thee his mate, Both them I serve, and of their train am I.
font;
With the reading finished, the class burst into applause. Neil had a smitten look on his face which made you smile. It was a success, and hopefully, he had caught the hint this time. You had tried to confess many times, but his insecurities often got in your way. But this time, you would make your intentions as clear as water.
After you, two or three students tried their luck. But you couldn't exactly pay attention, neither could Neil. When Keating asked for volunteers, his hand automatically rose in the crowd. He walked to the class front once the teacher granted his permission and proceeded to read, out loud, the poem he wrote the night before.
The winter was long gone And for the first time in a Few months I felt the rays of sunshine Extend it's fingers through my skin The spring has arrived And although I liked the white Flowers, rabbits, and bees make me rhyme and feel like writing a love hymn Oh lover, look what you've done! There are roses and dandelions through the whole sidewalk of my house, you thrive your love in me!
this poem is of my authorship;
The class burst into applause once more, until a voice from the back called attention. "Is not exactly spring yet, Neil," said Charlie with a smirk only intending to tease his friend. A few classmates laughed as Neil answered "It's already spring in my heart!" without giving much thought to it. A wave of "Owwn" was spread as you smiled at him.
You both exchanged loving gazes. Your love was finally blossoming.
Hope you like it! I take requests by ask! (info on requests);

Meant to Be (Charlie Weasley x OC)
What happens when Bill brings home a girl and Charlie is completely awestruck by her?
WARNINGS: mentions of alcohol, curse words, angst
CHAPTER 8
Charlie
“How’s your wing today, little buddy?” Aami took a step towards me and started blowing smoke out of his nostrils. “Okay. You’re not little anymore.” I giggled to myself. “You’ll always be a baby to me, Aami.”
I did a motion with my wand which made the dragon’s meal levitate from the ground and towards him.
“Do you think we can try and jump in the air?”
This was my technique to help him fly. Everybody lost hope already. I didn’t and I won’t. His wing might not be as it’s supposed to be but I believe he can do it anyway.
I levitated the steak a few meters above his head. From left to right. He was moving his tail behind him, curiously eyeing his meal.
“That’s it. You just have to want it enough.” I lifted the piece of meat higher. “I promise I won’t call you little anymore if you try and catch it!”
I know he couldn’t understand me but I didn’t care. I talked to all dragons. My teammates were making fun out of me all the time and they imitated me. The last time Theo did it, he almost got scorched by Ogto. We told him that his voice is simply too rough and that he should try a gentler approach. There was nothing more fun than to tease Theodore during work.
“You want it, Aami. I can see it in your emerald eyes, now try and jump. Don’t be afraid.” Sometimes I didn’t even recognize my own voice, how gentle it was when I was talking to him.
I was a sucker for him since he hatched.
“How’s parenthood treating you?” I jumped in the air, hearing the voice behind me.
I lost my concentration and the steak fell straight into the Fireball’s mouth.
“Peter. Now look what you did!” I frowned at him.
“Sorry, Charlie. I thought you heard me coming.” Peter couldn’t suppress his laugh.
“I was too busy concentrating.” I sighed, watching Aami chew on the big piece of meat.
“Still no luck?” Peter came closer.
“No.” I bowed my head. “I’ll keep trying.”
“I admire your determination, Fireball Mother.” He put a hand on my back. “I am certain that one day you two will succeed.”
“Thanks, Peter.” I smiled appreciatively.
They might’ve lost hope but at least they were still supportive.
“Your team needs your help, Charlie. Are you almost done here?” Peter suddenly remembered why he came to see me.
“I think he’s going to be just fine until dinner.” I glanced at the dragon. The steak already gone. “What’s up?”
“Rhylee has reasons to believe that Ren caught a cold.” Peter started to explain. “Theo, of course, went to check it out at once.”
“And let me guess, he got hurt?” I raised my eyebrows.
“Of course, he got hurt! He didn’t listen to Rhylee and Evan that we should wait for you and Ren sneezed right at him.” Peter pinched the bridge of his nose.
I pressed my lips together not to laugh. I couldn’t get the image out of my mind. I could see how Ren sneezes and blows Theodore backward.
“Did he forget that he’s a wizard and that he should use a stunning charm before doing something so risky?” I chuckled.
“What else!” Peter said and I followed him to Ren’s enclosure.
“I brought someone with brains!” Peter shouted when we approached the group.
“Andrew helped Theo to the Recovery Center.” John explained.
“Peter, you’ll have to help us.” I turned to him and he nodded.
“Alright!” I clapped my hands together. “Rhylee you distract Ren with a piece of meat. John, make sure he is following your every move. Peter, you help me immobilize him.” They all took their positions.
Rhylee went to Ren’s left side. John was standing right in front of him, while Peter and I slowly sneaked to the right side.
“Ready?” I whispered to Peter and he gave me a thumbs up.
Suddenly, the dragon took a few steps backward and started shaking his head frantically.
“He’s going to blow!” I shouted. “Shit!” John stepped back.
“Protego!” Shouted Rhylee and jumped in front of John right in time for Ren’s sneeze.
Green goo flew everywhere and I crossed my arms in front of my face to not get it in my eyes. We all started laughing when we saw the dragon’s confused face.
“Thanks, Rhylee.” John smiled at her.
“Don’t mention it.” She started getting the green substance off her clothes.
We finally managed to stun Ren and bring the Healers to check on him. They confirmed that he had a cold and gave us some medicine which we should mix into his water for a few days.
This has pretty much been the last few months. Rhylee has been working with us for 5 months now and to say that she was doing great was an understatement. Peter even joked that if I wasn’t so good at my job she would take over my position.
And I couldn’t even argue with him. She was amazing with dragons. I knew she loved them as much as I did but to see her working with them, taking care of them was something else. She was so gentle and careful with them as if they couldn’t swallow her whole. She was agile and always aware of her surroundings. She was basically the perfect Dragonologist.
Which, of course, was hell for me. I appreciated Peter hiring her because we needed someone like her on the team. Not that others weren’t doing a great job but when someone cares as much as she does, it just shows. However, it was torture getting to know her so well.
While we were working we didn’t have a chance to talk much, which was great. But just looking at her, observing her every move, and telling her what to do, has been hard enough. She did everything I told her without thinking twice about it and she did it flawlessly. She grew on me even more which was something I hate to admit because I knew it was wrong.
During the weekends she kept mostly by herself or she helped Tina in the Nursery. She, just like me, didn’t know how to take a day off. She asked for a free day once every 14 days and went back to England.
If all of her amazing work wasn’t enough for my poor heart and me already losing my mind, it was even worse when she joined us for a pint. I found out so many things about her that I wish I didn’t know.
She was a Bellefeuille at Beauxbatons and she was both a Prefect and a Head Girl. We all agreed that she was sorted in the right house as she really was brave and loved nature and she cares strongly for her friends. She proved that to us on several occasions during her time here and the boys loved her.
She has a pet Kneazle named Beau which is currently living with her roommate Lyla, back in England. Her parents insisted that she goes to Beauxbatons even though they lived in Britain. She applied to work in the Peruvian Dragon Sanctuary but her application was denied so she accepted the job at Gringotts.
If I thought she was amazing when I first met her, then I don’t know what the word for her is now. I was falling for her and I was falling hard. I tried not to think about her and to hide my feelings as much as I could. The guys teasing me about it every time she wasn’t around didn’t help my cause.
The only good thing about the whole situation was that we were never alone and if we were, we never talked about anything else than work. I also noticed that we got more relaxed around each other and that awkwardness we had between us the first couple of weeks finally went away. I hate to admit it but we were becoming really good friends and I don’t know how I feel about that.
—
“I just don’t understand why they have to be such pushovers.” John rolled his eyes. “If I wanted to be bossed around I would’ve invited my mother for a visit.” Theo added.
“They’re researchers. They’ll never change.” I calmed them down.
It was the time of the year again. May. The mating season and each year we were losing our minds. Besides the teams that took care of dragons, we also had researchers. Those observed our work and wrote papers about it that were later published in magazines. They always intervened in our business but the mating season was the worst. They were worst to deal with than mother dragons.
“Every year’s the same!” John didn’t stop complaining. “Why don’t you put them in this habitat? Can you put them together! Why did you do it like this?” He imitated them.
“Why don’t they go up the hill and stick something up their arses!” Andrew took a sip of his beer.
“Then who would write reports about that?” They all laughed at my question.
Charlie?” We all looked up, Rhylee standing in front of us.
“Yeah?”
“Can I talk to you?” She said, biting her lip.
“Sure.” I took a sip of my Fire Whiskey, ready to listen to what she has to say.
“In private.” I almost bit in my glass at her words.
She looked embarrassed and nervous at the same time.
I could feel the eyes on me, the guys waiting for what I was going to say back to her. I decided to ignore them and just stood up. She grabbed my hand, something I neither expected nor was okay with because my heart went crazy at her touch. She dragged me away, behind a nearby hut and made sure nobody was around.
“I have something to tell you.” She whispered.
“Obviously.” I tried lightening the mood.
Why was she so nervous?
“I…” She pursed her lips together and looked like she was about to cry.
“Hey, hey.” I put my hands on her shoulders. “Rhy, what is it, you’re scaring me.”
“I got a letter today from one of my ex co-workers, Lizzie.” She started to explain. “She told me that Kyan, the Ukranian Ironbelly, failed to protect one of the vaults a few days ago and went berserk. He hurt 3 Bank workers in the process and the people trying to get past him succeeded in breaking inside the vault.” Her lip started trembling.
I didn’t know what to do. I wanted to hug her and stroke her hair and calm her down but I would cross too many boundaries doing so, so I just tightened the grip on her shoulders.
“They are going to execute him, Charlie.” She burst into tears and buried her head in my shoulder. “The Ministry said that they can’t tolerate such a disobedient dragon and they want to get rid of him.”
My heart sank. I knew how much she loved those dragons. They meant everything to her. They were her family and now one of them is going to be murdered. I hugged her awkwardly. My mind completely blank. What am I supposed to say in this situation? This was terrible. They can’t just execute a dragon without any proof!
“Is there anything we can do?” I asked softly.
“The team I worked with will appeal for a trial. If they succeed they will be able to provide evidence that it wasn’t the dragon's fault.” She sobbed.
“Isn’t that obvious without proof?” She pulled her head back and looked at me.
We were too close for my liking. I could feel her breath on my cheek.
“That’s what I said to myself when I read her letter.” She said, astonished that I thought the same. “You know the Goblins don’t care for the dragons and if this one gets executed they can just get a new one.” Tears started running down her cheeks again.
“What am I supposed to do, Charlie?”
Rhylee, please stop looking at me like that!
Her eyes were big and puffy and hopeful.
“I…” I swallowed hard. I hope she couldn’t feel my heartbeat through my shirt. “We’ll ask around the Sanctuary. Perhaps somebody might be able to help us. Maybe someone here knows the law and can help us build a case.” I tried smiling as much as my muscles allowed me while being as stiff as I was because we were still embraced.
“You would help me build a case?” She finally pulled away.
“Of course. I know how much those dragons mean to you even if you don’t work with them anymore.” I reassured her. “Every creature’s life matters.”
“You’re the best, Charlie!” She jumped in my arms again.
Since when were we hugging so much?
“There’s something else.” She whispered after a few moments of silence.
I only hummed.
I didn’t know what to say. I couldn’t think straight. The sweet smell of her shampoo filled my nose and I was thinking of any way how I could take a deep breath without her noticing. I felt like suffocating.
We went for a run a few times together over the last month and last week we actually talked about something else than work. It was nice. I was always having a nice time with her even if we were just sitting in silence. I felt us becoming good friends and I’m glad she came to me with this but the hugging was definitely new and I was too deep to handle it properly.
“I did something terrible and probably illegal.” Her words were my chance to pull away from her.
“What?” I chuckled.
I couldn’t tell if she was joking or not. What could she possibly have done that it was illegal?
“Come with me.” She grabbed my hand again, making my heart skip a beat and dragged me to her hut.
She unlocked the door and invited me inside.
I was never at her place before. It was definitely neater than mine. I did clean but my stuff was everywhere and I never made my bed. She had flowers everywhere and even though it was dark outside, her place looked way brighter than mine.
My eyes stopped on the big box in the middle of her living room. Is this was she was talking about? She slowly approached the box and kneeled next to it. She gestured for me to come and join her.
“Rhy, what…” She stopped me by putting a finger over my lips.
I froze.
I will lose it if she keeps touching me like this.
“He’s probably sleeping.” She said, her voice barely audible.
“He?” I whispered.
“Do you remember the albino dragon I worked with?” She asked.
“How could I forget.” I replied.
“Lizzie wrote to me a few months back that they got another Swedish Short-Snout.” She started to explain. “They thought that the one already at Gringotts was a boy so they got another boy. It turned out that they were wrong.”
“Dash is a girl?” I put a hand over my mouth as I said that a tad too loudly.
She nodded. I narrowed my eyes at her and looked at the box and back to her.
“Rhy, what’s in the box?” I said slowly.
“Look for yourself.” She squinted.
I turned to the box and slowly opened it. It was a baby albino Swedish Short-Snout. I felt like a kid on Christmas morning. It finally happened! My wish to see an albino dragon came true. This was amazing. Merlin’s beard was he a beaute! I was in love!
I shook my head snapping out of it. This was a serious situation.
“What is he doing in the middle of your living room?” I pursed my lips at her.
“Sleeping?” She said with the most innocent grin on her face.
“Rhy. Tell me what you did.”
“They don’t tolerate baby dragons in Gringotts, Charlie.” She bowed her head. “They don’t have a nursery down there like we have here. Lizzie was the one who spotted the eggs and managed to steal one before the Goblins noticed. She wanted to save more of them but there was simply not enough time.” I could see tears gathering in her eyes again.
“I snuck out a few days ago and went to get him. I thought that once he’s here, we could give him a proper home.”
Boy did she know how to melt my heart. Her big eyes, pleading me to do something. To say something encouraging.
“We’ll find Peter first thing in the morning and tell him.” I said.
“What? No! I told you this in confidence!” She stood up and started pacing around the living room.
She was adorable.
“Relax.” I giggled. “Do you really think this is the first time someone smuggled an illegal dragon to the Sanctuary?”
“It’s not?” She stopped.
“When my brother Ron was in his First year my friend Hagrid who works at Hogwarts got himself a dragon egg and Ron wrote to me if we could take him in. We brought him here and Peter dealt with the paperwork. I swear that guy can make anything look legal.” I laughed and stood up.
I walked to her and placed my hands on her shoulders. This was allowed now, right?
“We’ll tell Peter and he’ll deal with the administrative work. We’ll settle the little guy in and that’s it.” I lifted her chin so that her eyes met mine.
That was a bloody mistake. I need to make a mental note to never do that again. Her eyes were so full of emotions. She was on the verge of tears but I think this time, they were happy tears. She looked so thankful, so appreciative. I couldn’t handle it.
“That’s it?” She said in a whisper.
She was blown away at how easy the whole thing was. I nodded and gently pulled away.
I would panic if I wasn’t in a similar situation a few years ago. I went straight to Peter then and I was a nervous wreck when I explained everything. He calmed me down and told me that he’ll take care of everything as long as the dragon gets transported here without anyone seeing it.
“Is the dragon here?” Her curiosity got the better of her.
“He is.” I smiled. “I was sad when he was assigned to another team last year but I go and see him at least once or twice per week. His name is Norbert but the researchers think he might be a girl so we will have to rename him.” I chuckled and looked back at the now opened box.
“You did the right thing, Rhy.” I gazed at her and walked to the box. Her eyes told me that she wanted to meet Norbert. She has been here since September but she didn’t have the pleasure to meet all the dragons yet even though I knew she wanted to. “He’ll do just fine here.” I reassured her.
I didn’t need to stand next to her to feel her body relax. She was so worried about what I would say upon seeing what’s in the box. Perhaps she even thought I would be angry or that she would be fired but we don’t do that here.
You bring a dragon, we give it a home. It’s that simple.
I was happy I was the one who she decided to tell her secret to but at the same time, I started liking her even more because of it. She went through all this trouble to save this baby dragon. She could get fired or even imprisoned by the Ministry if they found out.
But she took the risk. She didn’t care. She just wanted to save one egg and make sure that he gets a home. She didn’t worry about herself. She put dragons first and I admired her for that more than anything. I would’ve done the same. Heck, I would probably fly there on a broom in the middle of the night just to get at least one egg to safety.
I know she felt bad that she couldn’t save more of them. I know if it was up to her, she would’ve saved them all. And I know that deep down, she blamed herself for leaving because perhaps if she was there, things might’ve gone differently. It was insane how similar we were when it came to that and I didn’t need her to tell me these things, I just knew they were in her head.
She waited for me in front of my hut the next morning. We went to find Peter at once and informed him of the situation. He gave Rhylee a similar speech I did and told her that everything was going to be okay. He ordered me to get my team so we could safely transport the little guy to the habitat with other younglings.
John, Theo, and Evan helped Rhylee and me to get him through the door, while Andrew went to get the Healing team and Tina to do a check-up. After we were done, I sent my team to do our usual feeding routine, while I stayed with the little guy. I couldn’t take my eyes off him. If Aami saw me he would’ve scorched me out of jealousy.
I couldn’t believe we had an albino in the Sanctuary and Rhylee and I have been debating names all morning during breakfast. So far we came up with DJ which stands for Dash Junior, Ally, Bean, and Zyon. Of course, I would let her name him because she was the one who brought him here and was going to train with him like I was doing with Aami.
I am not going to lie, I was a bit jealous she would be able to spend all this extra time with him. But I knew it’s better that she does it because I knew I would spend half of the time just staring at him. He looked just as I imagined Dash when Rhylee described him when we first met. White scales with reddish ones on the tip of his tail. He had red eyes and we couldn't wait for him to get older so we could see if his eyes are going to change color as Dash’s did.
—
Rhylee got a letter a few days after she told me about Kyan that they will hold a trial for him. With enough evidence, we could send them an application and apply as custodians meaning Kyan would become a part of the Romanian Sanctuary family of dragons.
We spent the next week asking around if anyone knows anything about creature trials and how to appeal a case to the Ministry. Nobody really knew how to help us and a lot of people recommended a library.
She corresponded with Lizzie regularly, to give her any information that she could about how we can approach this and what papers we would need to fill out to be allowed to do this. The biggest problem was, that there was no evidence that the dragon was attacked or why he didn’t protect the vault but hurt the Bank workers instead and let the attackers escape.
Lizzie told Rhylee that they did a check-up on him and didn’t detect any kind of unusual or recent magic on him that would indicate that the group he let pass enchanted him in any way. All odds were against us but Rhylee didn’t lose hope. I admired her for that.
She reminded me of myself when everyone told me that Aami wasn’t going to make it. That he was too small to survive without a mother. I didn’t give up on him and I believed that he would survive. He still might not be able to fly but he is doing just fine. He is healthy and cheerful and he loves to play even though he’s nearing adulthood now.

Hiii yesterday was my bday but i’m very sad because apart from my parents, also my dad was even working and i almost cried when he called me :(, almost no one wished me a happy birthday while i always remember everyone’s bday and make sure to leave a nice message telling them how much i love them and how much they worth. I’m so so sad really :,( i was thinking if you could write smthng about this with tommy and a reader in my situation😔❤️
heyy i’m so sorry you felt like this and also i apologise because you sent this a few days ago but i just had the time to write. i know how it feels like to care about people around you but not getting the same attention from them, i hope this could help a bit to cheer you up a bit. let me know what you think and remember i love you soo much. happy birthday!!! 💖😭💕
‘Where are you going?’ The voice of your mother stopped you, she stared at your dress and arched an eyebrow. ‘To meet with a friend.’
‘I thought you said your friends weren’t here in Small Heath.’ She quoted from your earlier conversation and the memory of it erased the small smile on your lips. ‘Well, not all of them are gone.’
‘Be back by nine, it’s your birthday.’ Now it was your turn to ask, ‘You think dad knows that, too?’ She sighed and glanced away, ‘He didn’t choose to work late tonight and you know that, don’t blame him.’
‘Okay, mum.’ You left the house before she could ask who you were going to meet with and you thought it was better that way. The Shelby name didn’t leave a good impression on your parents after the father of the family left them after his wife passed away and the mischievous brothers weren’t doing any help.
Unbeknownst to your parents, you were a good friend to the family or at least you thought you were. You first met John -actually the wild boy ran into you at the shop and Polly insisted you to have a cup of tea with her- and it was unavoidable for you to meet with the rest of the family. Then you found yourself helping Ada with her schoolwork or babysitting Finn when they were busy.
Being who he was, Tommy was quick to drag you into a discussion and soon you two started to spend time together; chatting, reading or just sitting in silence. That’s what he liked about you, you were sincere about your emotions and unlike some other people, you never judged him or his family. You made them feel like you were always there to listen and help.
He also liked how passionate you were and the way stood up for the things you thought were right. And oh boy, you were so caring. You always made sure people around you felt appreciated and you never forgot their birthdays. You remembered the dates and even though you couldn’t make it to celebrate, you sent a card to remind them how much they meant to you. If your friends from school weren’t in town, you sent them cards and even little presents to let them know you loved them.
However, the same didn’t go for you that year. Your father called earlier to inform you that he had to stay and work late and it broke your heart. You wanted to celebrate your birthday with your family and your loved ones. Borning in summer seemed like a disadvantage now as you didn’t receive anything from your friends.
Thoughts clouded your mind as you stopped in front of the familiar door and to your luck, the charming member of the Shelby clan was already outside. You formed a soft smile as he greeted you with a wide grin and you started to walk.
‘How’s our birthday girl?’ He asked calmly and before you had a chance to make up a sentence, he noticed your face dropped. ‘I’m fine.’ You mumbled but it was too late. ‘y/n, is something wrong?’
‘No, it’s just... not how I imagined it to be like.’ Tommy frowned with that, ‘What happened?’ You knew there wasn’t a reason for you to shy away so you let him know what you thought, ‘I know it might sound a bit needy and I don’t expect anything from anyone but... I’m turning 17 and it’s not that hard to send a card.’
‘Maybe they hadn’t arrived yet?’ He asked and you shook your head, ‘At least you remembered.’ His eyes shone with happiness, ‘Of course I did.’ You turned your eyes to the road as he continued to watch you, ‘Tommy?’ You called his name without looking at him and he watched you carefully, ‘Yes?’
‘Where are we going?’
‘Well, have a guess.’ You turned to him and he gave you another sincere smile, you repeated the motion unintentionally, his smile has always been contagious. ‘To the cut?’
‘Oh, we don’t want to ruin that pretty dress of yours now, do we?’ You responded with a smile and waited in silence as you continued to walk, only stopped when he did. ‘What’s this place?’
‘It’s uncle Charlie’s yard.’ The name rang a bell in your memory and you remembered that’s where he often visited the horses. ‘We’ll see the horses?’ He nodded and put a hand on your back to guide you, ‘You are saying goodbye to sweet sixteen and you still don’t know how to ride a horse.’
‘Tommy, no. I can’t.’ You protested but you knew he was going to teach you anyway, ‘Yes, you can. I’ll be by your side.’ You stopped in front of the black horse, there was a small basket laying next to him. ‘You planned this?’
‘What was I supposed to do, send you a card?’ He joked as he helped you get on the horse and you rolled your eyes, ‘Funny.’ Then he took his place behind you and let the horse take you to the green trees, his left hand resting on your thigh as you leaned back a little to feel safe.
‘This feels... perfect. The wind, the grass, this horse... and you, thank you, Tommy.’ You whispered and he pressed the side of his face to yours, the sweet smell of your shampoo filling his nostrils once again. Then he stopped the horse when he thought it was a nice place to sit and have a little picnic. You opened the basket as he put the blanket on the ground, ‘You made sandwiches?’
‘Actually, Polly made them but I prepared the fruits.’ You smiled with his words and once you were laying on the blanket after finishing your food, you laughed. ‘Do your brothers know about this surprise?’ They made their duty to tease the two of you and he smiled, ‘They might be heard about it.’
‘Can’t wait to hear their thoughts.’ You joked and he chuckled, ‘Yeah. So, you are seventeen now. Any wishes?’ You gave out a soft sigh before answering, ‘I want to be happy and spend more time with the people I care about.’
‘You should add more horseriding, too.’ Tommy pointed out and you smiled, ‘Only if you are with me. Really, Tom. I enjoyed it and I’m glad for everything you’ve done.’ He moved closer to leave a kiss on your cheek, ‘Anything for the birthday girl.’

So, I have audible and I use it like all the time. Its not that I don't like just reading books but I don't have the time anymore. I'm always doing one thing or another and don't usually have the time to just sit down and read. At work, in between phone calls I have my headphones in listening to the narrators tell their stories and type away at my keyboard. At home, I will listen while doing chores, or cooking, feeding and cleaning my animals, etc.
I have just used one of my credits to get 'The Silver Eyes' audiobook by Scott Cawthon and some other lady I don't feel like looking up right now. And I've heard about it, I've played FNAF, I've watched countless videos on Game Theorists, Markiplier, Jacksepticeye, NateWantstoBattle and other channels about this game.
I'm only on Chapter 7, and holy shit. I obviously know it's a horror/thriller novel, and it's going to have some thing or another to do with creepy animatronics and missing kids, but just...I guess I wasn't expecting this much? I think this book is canon, too. Like a part of whatever convoluted story is all behind the franchise.
There are spoilers ahead if you wanted to read or listen to the book yourself. You have been warned.
So, there's Charlie, for the most part, she's the main character. I don't remember if her last name was mentioned or not. She's come back to this town of Hurricane to attend a sort of memorial/scholarship giveaway in the memory of her childhood friend Michael. Who was one of the five kidnapped and missing children. and then the story goes on from there.
I just wanna note a few things I have noticed in association with the games.
First the five missing kids. We all know the suspected backstory to the first game. Five kids were kidnapped and killed then stuffed into the animatronic suits. So, that was...interesting.
Then, Charlie's childhood home...I could be wrong but for some reason it gave me serious Fnaf 4 vibes and I'm not sure how accurate that is.
The creepy thing that was in the corner of her father's workshop where he built the animatronics. It sounded kind of like an exoskeleton, and the design reminded me of Ennard, from FNAF 5. But then she made the realization that that exoskeleton was put into the Foxy suit, so it didn't add up anymore. But who knows.
The yellow bunny. Before FnafVr came out it wouldn't have meant much to me other than just the creepy guise the killer used to capture not only those five kids but also Charlie's twin brother Sammy when they were toddlers at the Fazbear Family Diner. It reminds me HEAVILY of Glitchtrap, and I don't think that is a coincidence.
Evidently, Charlie's father started the whole Fazbear franchise. The Diner, then the pizzeria, and the others as well. I have no idea about fnaf 3 or 2 or five, but there are strong connections to at least 1, 4 and the fnavr game
The Freddy Fazbear's Pizza is described to be the same one from the first game, suggesting that during the timeline, that game came before the events of the book, but after the children's kidnappings and murders.
Dave, this "security guard" is def the same dude who wore the yellow spring Bonnie suit to kidnap and kill those kids, but Dave could just be an alias. He's a relatively new character to me still because he was only introduced a chapter or two ago.
Same topic but a little less observational of the story.
I obviously know that bad shit gonna happen because the book is centered around fnaf and knowing fnaf something bad always happens.
If ANYTHING happens to Jason, I will literally kill everyone then myself. Because he is a young child and Fazbear Entertainment and children are not a good combo, bad shit happens.
Charlie, though she is the main character is kind of weird to me because she literally grew up in a room of animatronic like toys. And I do NOT gel with that shit at all. I hate hate hate hate hate freaking animatronics and have long before fnaf was a thing. Charlie was unnatural in her fondness of them and I do not trust those who are not at least wary of things that act alive but aren't.
Jessica's character may just be written this way on purpose but I kind of wanna introduce her face to a brick repeatedly. I don't like her much.
Marla is almost as bad but not in the same way. I wouldn't smack her with a brick but maybe my hand. Who in their right mind as an older sibling would let their younger brother or any younger sibling into an abandoned building where one of their friends had been kidnapped and never seen again???? Like this bitch needs a slap hard across the face for even allowing that shit. What kind of big sister are you to bring your kid brother into possible danger like that?
Then, Charlie again, this bitch legit got attacked by foxy on her second outing to this boarded up and hidden old janky place and decided it would be okay to go back???? With some sketchy dude named Dave???? Sure her friends were with her, but the bitch literally showed them all he knew a fuck ton more about that pizzeria and the operation of those animatronics than any rando property security guard ought to, and they didn't nope the fuck out and all leave?
Then, THEN. One of their friends gets fucking kidnapped right the fuck in front of Jason by Dave dressed in the Spring Bonnie suit and since Jason is apparently too fucking stupid to say that the Bonnie was yellow, Charlie nor John caught on even though both of them would have known what that fucking meant!!!!! Like Jason, my dude, I love ya, ur a cute fuckin kid, but descriptions are fucking important. You are 11, you are smart enough to figure that out.
Also, then Carlton's dad, a police officer just kind of invites them over for cocoa and claims Carlton is pulling a trick on them and will show up. Um bitch no. You're son is probs dead, and you are not even helping to find who is responsible right now. All you're worried about is that the door was chained and the kids couldn't have gotten in. Did it occur to you or your dumb as bricks co-officer Dunn that maybe just fuckin maybe the chains were put on in between the kids leaving to get help and you all coming back? Maybe like idk the kidnapper didn't want you to follow him or interrupt whatever sick and twisted things he's doing?
Anyways, I think that's it for now. I'm going to listen to more and hopefully not fucking give myself nightmares. Wish me luck.

( CHARLIE HUNNAM, CIS MALE, HE/HIM ) — ✧ that looks like VIDAR BJÖRK-THORSON! they’re the FORTY-ONE YEAR OLD SON of THOR ODINSON. [ they are also a S.H.I.E.L.D. TRAINER & FREELANCE TATTOO ARTIST at paragon. ] i hear they’re VIRTUOUS & BRAVE, but tend to be DISTANT & CREDULOUS. his file says that his power/ability is ASGARDIAN PHYSIOLOGY & ATMOKINESIS. you can find his pinterest HERE and his stats HERE.
triggers : ptsd , war , army / military , explosion , kidnapping - pls lmk if i missed something !
i. ( childhood )
vidar was born in the very MIDDLE of a giant and extremely long lightning storm that eventually turned into a bigger storm. helene , his mother , would tell him that was where he got his middle name. STORMR. for the storm that he was born during. helene also said that once vidar was born the storm started to settle and the sun came out of the clouds. but he never knew if she was just trying to give him hope or if there was some actual honesty to the story ( especially as he got ability to control and manipulate the weather ). helene was known for her stories-- especially her bedtime stories. her best ones were about thor and loki , the vikings , odin and his queen , frigga . and gaea , thor’s true mother . and hela , sleipnir , jörmungandr , fenrir -- loki’s children . vidar always thought that’s all they were : stories. not real. vidar could remember his mother telling him and his siblings stories when they couldn’t go to sleep easily. it’s one of his most fondest memories from his childhood.
while vidar never believed his mother's stories and never believed her when she told him about his father ( thor ? the god of thunder whom he’s never met ? ) , he did however believe that he was SOMETHING. he’d never believe that he was part god-- but enhanced ? a little more believable. he healed quickly , he was stronger and faster than the other kids that he was friends with and went to school with. sometimes his senses would be more alert than usual. he could understand languages that he shouldn’t be able to. things that he couldn’t explain like when the weather would change depending on his mood. was it magic ? was he somehow a descendant of wizards ? that sentence alone made vidar believe he was seeing things that didn’t exist and was looking for something that would never be. like a father.
vidar was always a fairly good kid. he didn’t necessarily belong to a particular clique in high school , he mainly just floated. he did sports because he was good at them and he was proficient in languages and other school subjects. he was good with his hands and when it came to hands on activities. but he was exceptionally good at art. he had a lot of imagination and creativity that you would be surprised by. he could have gone on to an arts school… but he didn’t.
when vidar was sixteen he was out in the middle of a storm that nearly destroyed his childhood home. he was truly just making sure that all of their animals were safe and in the barn and weren’t still out running in the storm or injured somewhere. vidar was struck by lightning in the storm. he nearly died but he DIDN’T. he was as close as you can get. his heart even STOPPED. if he wasn’t a demi-god then he wouldn’t of had any chance at surviving. when he breathed life and woke up -- HIS FATHER was standing over him. lttle did vidar know , his mother had tried to contact thor less than a week prior when she noticed the abilities that vidar tried so hard to hide. thor was even more difficult to get ahold of then , back in the 90’s , compared to now. he didn’t even have a landline.
vidar spent the next few days with thor and getting to know him. thor taught him everything about what it meant to be asgardian and taught him everything about his powers. vidar spent that summer on asgard. he met his grandparents , his aunt & uncles , cousins , etc , etc . it was all extremely surreal and unlike anything he’s ever experienced before. when vidar went back home he was a different person & he saw the world in a different way. his father was a GOD & this WARRIOR TYPE. vidar had considered art school , it was a great passion of his and he was a damn good artist too. but things changed. when he got back to school after summer break school was the last thing on his mind. it was like his eyes had opened and could see for the first time in years. he did apply to art schools and got in to all of the ones that he applied to but his heart and mind were telling him to do something else.
ii. ( the army )
vidar signed up for the army the day he turned eighteen. he met his future wife ( now ex wife ) barely a week later. she was there when he left his small town for boot camp. they were very much a dear john love story. they sent letters back and forth when he was in boot camp and continued when he was sent around the world. he would come home for a week at a time. they got married young and had kids not that much later. their love burned but as the years wore on that love burned out.
at one point he wanted to be in the asgardian army but that meant leaving earth , leaving his family — which included his wife and eventually his children. in a way , he left them anyways. he did a lot of tours and spent as much time at home when he could. he was not much of a presence in his children’s lives when they were young but he visited when he could and sent letters as often as he was able to. him and his ( now ) ex wife would have heated arguments about his decisions regarding the army. he had chances to retire and leave but he never took them. he had chances to visit but he wouldn’t always especially towards the end of that career. his wife just wanted help with their unruly children and his children just wanted a father. vidar had an even bigger chance to leave after the incident that caused most of his team to die. ( he had signed up for x amount of years which has coincidentally came up after everything ) he wasn’t in the jeep when they went over the mine , but he was SUPPOSED to be and last minute he ended up staying behind with the others. he heard that explosion and his stomach dropped. some of those left alive after what happened left completely. vidar didn’t. while he did take a break after the incident ( which was also close to the day that his baby sister was killed and his daughter , tova , was saved ). he went home , he attended his sisters funeral , he grieved with his family as well as grieving for the army family he lost. but still , he continued on eventually and saw even more horrific things , saw his life flash before his eyes more times than he could count. sometimes he wondered why he kept on going and kept renewing his contract and then he remembered when he went back home and couldn’t deal with regular everyday life.
vidar ended his contract with the army after a disaster with his then team. the person in charge had essentially put everyone in a horrible situation and surrounded by the enemy - a person that vidar was supposed to trust with his LIFE. vidar was left to get everyone out alive. and somehow , he did. he got everyone out alive with no fatalities and minimal injuries. vidar was awarded a medal for his heroism , which he just called “ SHEER DUMB LUCK “.
iii. ( post army + s.h.i.e.l.d. )
after years of ignoring the subject , vidar and his wife started the process of getting a divorce. their marriage had been strung along for TOO LONG and it was obvious to almost everyone that they hadn’t had a good marriage in years. the agreement was that vidar would pay child support , the kids would live with their mom most of the time and vidar would see them on weekends and vacations and every summer they would spend a few weeks in asgard.
vidar couldn’t hold down a job , he couldn’t even get a job because apparently 10+ years in the army doesn’t make it easy to get a job. he eventually finds his place and takes a few art classes at a community college and falls in love with the idea of being a tattoo artist. he starts as an apprentice and ends up being an artist that people REQUEST.
he doesn’t stay away from combat for very long and soon enough S.H.I.E.L.D. recruits him due to his background and abilities. his ex-wife opposes the idea , mentions the PSTD he’s still struggling with how he’s good he’s been doing as a tattoo artist. she was right but he dismisses all of her comments and becomes an agent. vidar always flourished in high stress situations ; it was one of his strongest points. vidar moved up the ranks of S.H.I.E.L.D. quickly - due to his great performance. this time around it was different - he was always around for his children. always.
after years in S.H.I.E.L.D. vidar’s youngest , milo , is kidnapped by an enemy. he’s not allowed to go on the mission to rescue him due to the close connection and how emotional vidar got concerning the situation but -- he’s never been one to follow orders when he disagreed with them. so he hijacks a plane and single handedly storms the compound that he knew his son was being held at. S.H.I.E.L.D. doesn’t arrive until after vidar had knocked out everyone and was holding his son safely in his arms. vidar quits S.H.I.E.L.D. that night.
iv. ( present day )
vidar is focusing on his family and his kids - especially milo , who sees a therapist bi weekly. there didn’t seem to be any damage to milo - physically and emotionally. he’s been working as a freelance tattoo artist and more recently : S.H.I.E.L.D. recruited him to be a trainer for the young agents in paragon -- which for some reason he decided to agree to.
v. ( personality )
vidar is someone who tries extremely hard but ends up messing things up. he MEANS WELL but it doesn’t always come off that way. in the military + as an agent he was hard due to the circumstances he was in. the tragedies that he has seen made him a little cold in the army but outside of that he’s a bit soft. he doesn’t keep up with pop culture and technology. vidar has a strong set of morals that he abides to -- he’s known for his heroism , even as a kid before he got into the british military. he’s not extremely close with his kids but he tries VERY HARD to mend the relationships with his kids from not being a strong presence in their life since they were born.
tldr; he tries hard ! he loves his kids ! he’s a big softie with a fluffy cat named floof and a corgi named bear !

vii. ( connections / relationships )
MILO AUGUSTUS VIDARSON. / 9. / milo is vidar’s youngest child. he’s the baby and definitely gets away with that. milo was also the one who got kidnapped last november by an enemy of S.H.I.E.L.D. since he’s the youngest and was born a year before vidar and his wife divorced , he’s never quite known them to be together. he was also born not long before vidar left the military so vidar has been a constant presence in his life , unlike the older ones. no known powers at this time aside from the part asgardian physiology. will be able to manipulate light when he gets his powers.
LAUREL CARINA VIDARSDOTTIR. / 12. / vidar has a decent relationship with laurel. laurel is an ambitious kid and extremely smart. she has extremely high dreams and ambitions but nothing related to S.H.I.E.L.D. or the military. an engineer or president , maybe. aside from typical asgardian abilities she can manipulate lightning.
OCTAVIUS EIRIK VIDARSON. / 15. / he’s the kid who still has glow in the dark stars on his ceiling. he always had dreams of being an astronaut until he realized that people aren’t sent into space anymore. extremely protective of his older and younger siblings. aside from asgardian abilities he can also fly & manipulate temperature.
TOVA SOLEIL VIDARSDOTTIR. / 21. / @tofuisms. / their relationship is... definitely rocky. he was extremely proud of her going into the military , just like he did. but now he just wishes that she would get out since he had a lot of troubles in the military and still deals with PTSD. he loves her but has difficulty telling her how proud he is of her and how much he wishes that he was more like her.
ADRIAN TREVOR. / not only did they serve together but they are also the closest of bros. the situation with tova , his sister and theora leaves things a little complicated sometimes but he would do anything for adrian.
AVA BARTON. / vidar met ava when he was serving overseas and they immediately clicked. she reminded him a lot of his own kids due to their age gap which is where their relationship started.
THEORA TREVOR. / this one is... a bit complicated. vidar is grateful that she was able to save his daughter but at the same time he feels anger because she wasn’t able to save his baby sister. and she’s the sister of his best friend.
THERESA DAWN BJÖRK. / theresa was adopted by helene björk as a baby. she was around eleven years younger than vidar and despite the age gap theresa and vidar were as close as ever. the entire family loved her with every ounce of their being. she radiated pure sunshine and happiness. while she had many reasons to be a negative person she never quite was. she was always able to look on the bright side of things. she loved herself and others unconditionally. maybe it was because of that that she died so young. and because she wanted to help and SAVE people. vidar wasn’t there when theresa died and tova was saved by theora but he can imagine theresa telling theora to save tova INSTEAD. or even sacrificing herself so the others could get to safety. he’s never asked about the finer details concerning his sisters death. because maybe if he had been there then he could have stopped it.
BUCKY BARNES. / the first person he dated after the divorce and the first person he introduced his kids too. they dated when vidar wasn’t in the best place because he was trying to find himself after leaving the army. but vidar loved him and bucky accepted everything when they dated. their breakup was a lot on vidar but he eventually was able to move on.
HELENE BJÖRK. / helene raised three kids all by herself and to vidar , she’s a goddamn superhero. he’s 100% a momma’s boi.
THOR ODINSON. / he named one of his kids after thor so yeah... vidar loves his dad a lot !
MAGGIE THANOSDOTTIR. / vidar couldn’t tell you how they’re related but they are. and they train together a lot !
DANIEL FOSTER-THORSON. / half sibling who is closer to vidar’s kids than vidar , which vidar is fine with.
BEAR. / 3 year old corgi that vidar adopted from an animal rescue. not a service dog but ... might as well be.
FLOOF. / 11 year old white and fluffy cat. she’s grumpy but loving. vidar is her favorite.
viii. ( wanted connections )
( RAISED WITH ) SIBLING. vidar has one sibling that he was raised with that is still alive , they’re probably much closer compared to their other siblings not only due to the giant age gap ( and physical age gap ) but also because they were raised together. their adopted baby sister died 10 years ago because theora trevor wasn’t able to save her ( but was able to save tova , vidar’s daughter ! so u kno ! conflicted feelings ! ) they would be 35-48 ( 42+ if with thor since vidar didn’t meet thor until he was 16 ). Honestly , they could be adopted , a child of thor + helene ,,, or a child of helene + someone else !! bonus points 4 helene + another asgardian god bc … she got a TYPE !!
fc suggestions : ( 1/2 white if bio ! ) daniel henney , zoe saldana , hayley atwell , jamie clayton , alexis bledel , ryan hurst , paul wesley , matt czuchry , jason momoa , charlie cox , mads mikkelsen , kate walsh , skeet ulrich , garrett hedlund , simon baker , joe manganiello , maggie q.
( 1 of 2 ) CHILDREN. vidar has two children who are of playable ages. tova is 21 and the other one can be 23 or 17-19 ! as for the relationship,,,,, it’ll depend. vidar wasn’t around a lot due to being in the army. he was around when he could - which was never enough. vidar + their mom got divorced after a few months of him being back bc it just didn’t work out. the kids live with him atm ( for rp reasons since the mom isn’t being played rn ) but usually they have a typical divorced parent deal where he gets the kids on weekends and a few weeks during school vacations and some holidays. abilities wise , they’d just have a lesser version of what vidar has. vidar loves his kids so much ... he just isn’t always the best with saying that. he’s better with actions than words.
fc suggestions : ( must b white ) olivia holt , natalia alyn lind , nicole maines , elliot fletcher , chloe grace moretz , alice pagani , sabrina carpenter , peyton r list , ester esposito , kelli berglund , jared gilmore , chandler riggs , asa butterfield , katelyn nacon , xavier serrano , luke benward , joe keery , ludovico tersigni , ulrikke falch , henrik holm , nat wolff , blake michael , nat wolff , billie eilish , madelaine petsch , herman tommeraas , robbie kay , jenny boyd , harry styles , joey king , ella purnell , bailee madison , kat mcnamara , abigail cowen , ludovica martino , milena tscharntke , kennedy hermansen , michelangelo fortuzzi , miguel herran , dylan sprayberry , benjamain wadsworth , margot robbie , cara delevigne.
EX WIFE. they met when they were young and got married and had a wedding right before vidar was deployed. they were married for a long time but only dated for a few months before they decided they wanted to get engaged. they also started having children fairly young. it could’ve been one of the reasons why they got married young !! vidar hasn’t been the best husband. he went on a lot of tours and wasn’t around a ton. he also went through a lot of PTSD that he still deals with today. she could’ve also been in the military , even if it was for a short time. also military fam ?? that b cute. they have five kids ( 21 , 15 , 12 , 9 + a playable one who is 23 or 17-19 ). their whole marriage was strung along for a long time and a lot longer than it should have but they both really tried to make things work once vidar retired from the military. they definitely could have had an open relationship ,,,, an on and off relationship ,,, etc !! I’m honestly SO OPEN for anything !! Just lmk ur ideas !! and ill b happy to change things around !! i would definitely LOVE it if she was a child of another asgardian like karnilla , skurge , fandral , lorelei ( adopted ) , brunnhilde , idunn !! some other suggestions : donna troy , artemis of bana-mighdall , circe , death (dc or marvel) , raven darkholme , logan howlett , natasha romanoff , hercules ... etc. literally anyone that could have a child who’s 40+. age range for her: 40-44 ( vidar is 41 now and was 18 when they started dating ).
fc suggestions : ( must be white ) isla fisher , amy adams , jessica chastain , jennifer garner , anne hathaway , charlize theron , yael grobglas , rachel bilson , morena baccarin , minka kelly , kristen bell , zooey deschanel , alexandra breckenridge , bridget regan , alison brie , lauren cohan , aj cook , winona ryder , rachel mcadams , meghan ory , krysten ritter , jenny slate , sarah paulson , christina hendricks , vera farmiga , angelia jolie , gillian anderson , holly marie combs , amy acker , sarah michelle gellar.
FRIENDS FROM THE MILITARY. vidar was in the british army from 1995 to 2010 so he’s met a lot of people - not even reserved for others in the british military - open to people from the us military , etc ! also check out adrian trevor’s army skwad wc on the main ... !
STUDENTS. vidar is currently training young S.H.I.E.L.D. agents and new agents ! any age and don’t just have to be kids of canon S.H.I.E.L.D. agents.
CO-WORKERS. for when he was an agent which was 2013 to 2018. his ending to being an agent wasn’t the best since it involved his son being kidnapped and vidar going against orders and stealing a jet and single handedly saved his son before S.H.I.E.L.D. had even showed up.
EXES / EX HOOK UPS. would be from 2011 and onwards. though , his first serious relationship and first person he introduced his kids to after the divorce was bucky barnes. he also wouldn’t have introduced simple hookups to his kids since he’s very careful about who he introduces his kids to.
CLIENTS. he’s a freelance tattoo artist and has made quite a name for himself -- he’s booked quite a bit in advance. also if you’re military or S.H.I.E.L.D. you’ll prob get a cool discount !
EVERYTHING ELSE. friends ! enemies ! flirtationships ! dates that didn’t go anywhere ! hateships ! anything !

The Weekend Warrior 9/4/20 – TENET! MULAN! I’M THINKING OF ENDING THINGS (but now that I’ve seen Tenet and Mulan, I’m better)… and More!
It’s Labor Day weekend… it is, isn’t it? I can’t even remember what day of the week it is anymore, and it looks like movie theaters across the country are generally all reopened except for a few specific areas. While theaters seem to be playing a variety of old and new movies – and Chadwick Boseman’s breakout 42, in which he plays Jackie Robinson, will be shown in 300 AMC theaters starting Thursday -- it still feels like we’re not quite where we should be. That said, only three states remain fully closed as far as movie theaters go: New York (eff you, Cuomo!), North Carolina and New Mexico. California is slowly rolling out movie theaters reopening in certain sections but not in L.A. or San Francisco just yet. Honestly, I’m having a rough week, and I’ll be surprised if I even get through half the movies that I have seen and planned to review, let alone everything else I have to do.
Finally! The movie that’s looking to be one of the most controversial movies of the summer, if not the year, comes to the United States. Of course, I’m talking about Christopher Nolan’s TENET (Warner Bros.), his tribute to James Bond movies with John David Washington (BlacKkKlansman) playing a super-spy (of sorts) who teams with Robert Pattinson to perform intricate heists on a mission to find out who has discovered bullets that travel backwards through time and brought them back into our time. Also starring Elizabeth Debicki and Kenneth Branagh, the movie has received mixed to positive reviews with about 76% on Rotten Tomatoes. You can read my full review right here and a second technical review here.
Right now, it looks like Tenet is going to be playing in roughly 3,000 theaters over Labor Day weekend with only a few states fully closed including my own (New York), as well as North Carolina and New Mexico. A few other states like New Jersey and Maryland are reopening but it may be too late to get Tenet in there. California has a few areas open but not Los Angeles or San Francisco.
Although I’m hesitant at making any predictions right now or doing a full-blown analysis – there so many unknowns in a pandemic -- I think a four-day opening of somewhere between $25 and 28 million should be possible even with limited seating in most theaters that have reopened. I think people are ready to go back to theaters despite the negative narrative created by certain irresponsible film critics who seem to care more about their own personal health than that of the industry that has allowed them to pay rent and live large for years.
Another movie that I’ve been looking forward to and actually my most anticipated movie of the year is Disney’s live action remake of their animated classic, MULAN, this one directed by one of my favorite filmmakers, Niki Caro of Whale Rider fame. I cannot tell you how excited I was to finally see this movie after being invited to a press screen back in March, and then have it systematically cancelled as everything else started shutting down. Fortunately, I got a screener and while not my favorite way to watch a movie, I absolutely LOVED IT!
It stars Yifei Liu as the title character, made famous in the 1998 Disney animated movie, and it follows a similar story of a teen girl who steals her father’s sword and armor and pretends to be a man to join the Imperial Army under secrecy. There are definitely major changes in Caro’s version, most notably the lack of songs and no sign of Mushu, the adorable dragon voiced by Eddie Murphy. This is also not meant for small children, because it’s PG-13 not because it has anything terrible like someone waving genitals or swearing but because some of the action does get intense without much blood or anything terrible. I mean, this is definitely a SOFT PG-13, if that’s even a thing.
The movie is gorgeous and in the vein of movies I love like Zhang Yimou’s Hero and Ang Lee’s Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, and it’s even exec. produced by Bill Kong, who produced many of those films. The point is that I love these kinds of movies, plus I’ve long been a fan of Caro’s, and everything just comes together beautifully from the performance by Yifei Liu to the fantastic characters around her, including ones played by Jet Li and Donnie Yen (reuniting from Hero!), as well as an amazing witch played by the indelible Ms. Gong Li, who is also terrific. Sure, there’s a few issues with the dialogue, but this is not a kiddie movie, as much as it’s something on par with the first Pirates of the Caribbean movie, and I just love all of the decision Caro and her all-Asian cast make in telling this story in a new way. I particularly liked how the film followed Chinese traditions and dealt with things like “chi,” but as with the animated film, the stuff in the army
On top of the amazing martial arts fights, there are also some terrific battle scene that would do Braveheart proud, and it’s all pulled together by Harry Gregson-Williams’ score, which may be one of my favorite pieces of music this year. Definitely a score I’ll be buying since it brings so much excitement and emotion to every scene, but that’s just as much a credit to Ms. Caro and her fantastic cast, who in a couple scenes, particularly between Liu and Li, had me tearing up almost as much as every single time I’ve watched Caro’s debut, Whale Rider.
I’m sure that fans of the animated movie (which I only saw for the first time earlier this year) will have different expectations, but you can’t fault Disney for being a little bit concerned and undeservedly dumping it to the Disney+ streaming service (which you can watch it at a premium of $29.95) rather than giving it the theatrical release it truly deserved. Honestly, if for some strange reason, Disney decides to play it in a bunch of theaters once they’re fully open, I would not hesitate to watch this again in what I consider a much-better environment for a movie which is likely to end up in my top 10 for year. It’s probably my favorite straight-up Disney movie (not including Pixar or Marvel) since maybe Kenneth Branagh’s Cinderella, although I kind of enjoyed Mary Poppins Returns, too.
I also have a crafts review of Mulan over at Below the Line, so check that out!
While I’ve generally been mixed on Charlie Kaufman’s movies that he directed himself, I couldn’t NOT watch I’M THINKING OF ENDING THINGS, his new movie on Netflix, starring Jessie Buckley and Jesse Plemons as a young couple going to visit his parents, played by Toni Collette and David Thewlis. At first, it looks like they’ll get stuck in a snowstorm, but then they get there and then they leave and once again get stuck in a snowtorm. No, this isn’t Centigrade 2, but actually something far FAR worse, to the point where I’m not even sure where to begin.
It starts with Buckley’s “Young woman” – yes, Kaufman doesn’t even bother giving her a name – being picked up by her boyfriend Jake (Plemons) before the long ride through the snow to his parent’s house. The whole time, we hear her inner thoughts about wanting to break up with Jake for one or reason or another, her thoughts always been interrupted by Jake making a statement that seems out of the blue. When they get to his parents’ farm in the middle of nowhere, things start to get weird, and I don’t want to go into too many details because if you read my review and decide to sit through it anyway, then it’s your own fault.
Apparently, this was loosely based on a book of the same name by Iain Reid, but it was adapted by the guy who wrote Adaptation, so Kaufman pretty much just went off and did his own thing based on Reid’s general premise. What I find particularly weird is that some of the early reviews talked about this movie as if it was a horror movie, but I just don’t see that at all. It’s just a really dry and weird comedy that doesn’t really take off. While parts of it remind me of the comics work of Daniel Clowes (Ghost World), who I genuinely love, other parts just get so weird, and at times, it reminded me of David Lynch’s Eraserhead or M. Night Shyamalan’s The Visit, but only because there are so many WTF moments that you wonder what the actors must have thought while they were doing what Kaufman told them to do. Again, I’m not going to ruin the experience of being thoroughly confounded by some of the weirder moments but after Buckley and Plemons leave the farmhouse, they’re back driving through the snow and having far more intelligent conversations about such mundane topics. At one point, I thought, “This movie must be over soon, right?” and I checked, and there were 43 more minutes to go. That’s when I went from angry to outright ballistic, because I knew that there were so many other things I could be doing than listening to all the talking, talking, talking… They eventually arrive at an abandoned school and go there for shelter, and I was like, “Oh, good, now we get to the horror stuff.” Nope.
I’m Thinking of Ending Things is the perfect movie for the scant few that raved about Darren Aronofsky’s mother!, or those who consider Holy Rollers a masterpiece of the highest order. Awful, aggravating and almost unwatchable at times, I’d only recommend Kaufman’s movie to people as a practical joke. Nah, I’m not that mean. It’ll be on Netflix tomorrow. Good luck with it.
Filmmaker and Rooney* frontman Robert Schwartzman directs his third feature, the comedy THE “ARGUMENT” (Gravitas Ventures), which takes the simple idea of a cocktail party and turns it into a riotous and sometimes strange comedy of errors, of sorts.
Dan Fogler and Emma Bell play couple Jack and Lisa, he a writer, her an actress, who have been together for some time, and Jack is ready to pop the question. After the final of a stageplay Lisa is co-starring in, Jack throws a cocktail party at which he’s gonna propose. He invites over his agent Danny Pudi from Community) and his wife Sarah (Maggie Q) but Lisa has invited her amorous co-star Paul (Tyler James Williams from Everybody Hates Chris all grown up!), who brought his own bubbly girlfriend Trina (Cleopatra Coleman). As Trina starts drinking, thing just get worse and worse, and it inevitably turns into a full- on fight between Jack and Lisa aka the “argument” of the title. Jack is convinced that if they have a do-over on the night, they can prove who is right.
Oh, yeah. That couldn’t possibly work, right? Well, I’m not going to spoil it, but the one do-over turns into several, which turns into Jack trying to script the perfect cocktail party with the six of them … or rather five after Maggie Q’s character quits in a hilarious huff where she does impressions of the other five. (I’ve always found Maggie to be hilarious from talking to her years ago, and it’s great that her comic skills are finally being used, along with her beauty.) Eventually, Jack brings in actors to play each of them and perform the script he’s written so they can all sit back and figure out where things went wrong. Honestly, The “Argument” is more like the Charlie Kaufman movies I liked (such as Adaptation), and the movie has a vibe a lot like the play God of Carnage, which Roman Polanski adapted into a movie that nobody saw and few gave a fair shake. Also reminded me of Ike Barinholtz’s The Oath, which I quite enjoyed. The main leads are great, but I gotta give additional kudos to Maggie and Cleopatra Coleman, who gives a surprisingly layered performance as possibly the first ditzy African-American not-blonde “blonde” in movie history?
Although Schwartzman didn’t write this movie – it’s written by Zac Sanford who made The Chumscrubber -- he does a great job using his talented cast to throw many surprises at the viewer, and I was laughing quite hardily as the movie went on, because I really enjoyed the characters portrayed not just by the main six but also the actors playing the actors. Yeah, I know it might get confusing but at least this doesn’t have time travel, so if you want a fun and unexpectedly clever dark comedy, do check out The “Argument” which will be in theaters and On Demand, and apparently, you can even order it bundled with WINE?!?!? (*And you can also check out Rooney on Spotify!)
Another really nice surprise this week was Jeff Barnaby’s apocalyptic horror film BLOOD QUANTUM (Shudder/RLJEFilms), which was released on VOD, Digital HD, DVD and Blu-Ray earlier this week but is also on the awesome horror streamer, Shudder, I guess right now? It involves a community of indigenous people in the reserve Red Crow who face the undead when an infection hits the village through a bunch of animals who come back to life and then infect the humans. The movie starts on the first night of this plague and then cuts forward six months when the people of Red Crow have shut themselves off from the rest of the world with the hopes of keeping those still alive uninfected from the hordes of “Zeds” outside their gates.
I’m a little bummed I didn’t have press notes for this movie because there are so many great characters and performances, but it was hard to keep track of them without a scorecard. It does star Michael Greyeyes from Fear the Walking Dead, as well as Forrest Godluck (The Revenant), Kiowa Gordon and Elle-Máijá Tailfeatures, but other than Greeneyes, who plays the sherriff trying to keep his family safe, I could barely keep track of the characters or figure out who played them, and that’s a shame.
I generally liked the recent Train to Busan: Peninsula but Blood Quantum works just as little bit better, mainly from the interaction of the characters in a world full of sex and drugs and gore galore where you never who is gonna get killed but for the most part, they’re likely to go in a way that involves blood that pours like a waterfall. You add to the quick pace of Barnaby’s direction the amazing score that almost sounds like Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, and you have a movie that makes you realize that Barnaby has made a film that perfectly captures the spirit and feel of John Carpenter’s best work.
I actually watched John Leguizamo’s feature film directorial debut CRITICAL THINKING (Vertical Entertainment), way back in March, literally my very last press screening before movie theaters shut down, little realizing that it would be the last press screening for six months! It’s written by Dito Montiel, who I’ve generally been mixed on, and it’s based on a true story from 1998 where a Miami teacher, played by Leguizamo, tries to save a group of Latino and Black teenagers from the inevitable drugs and crime that kids from the underserved ghetto usually get into by teaching them chess and getting them all the way to the National Chess Championship. I didn’t get to rewatch it to write any sort of intelligent review, but as you can imagine, it has a Mr. Holland’s Opus or Dead Poet’s Society feel, but mixed with the little-seen Disney movie, Queen of Katwe, which I generally enjoyed much more. I do think Leguizamo did a pretty decent job with his first feature as a director and maybe if the crazy early days of COVID weren’t distracting me so much, maybe I would have enjoyed it more. This is a movie that I need to rewatch with a better head on my shoulders.
Tyler Norwood’s doc ROBIN’S WISH (Vertical) takes a look at the last years of comedian and actor Robin Williams, who died from suicide in August 2014 at the age of 63. To everyone who knew him, from close acquaintances to fans, it was a mystery why Williams would take his own life with things going so well in his marriage to Susan Schneider. After his death, the autopsy showed that he was afflicted by undiagnosed diffuse Lewy body dementia, and apparently, that was enough to do his head in to the point where suicide seemed like the only solution.
This is a very different than the equally good Robin Williams: Come Inside My Mind, because it does focus so much on Williams’ last years and his relationship with Schneider, who plays a much bigger role in this movie with in-depth and intimate moments. It also does a good job talking to Williams’ neighbors in Marin County, who laud the comedian’s commitment to entertaining those in the community. It also interviews Shawn Levy from the Night at the Museum movies, who talks about how Williams wouldn’t let anyone around him know what was going on, maybe because he didn’t really know himself.
Williams’ death was tragic but even moreso when you realize what he must have been going through, and the only thing else I will say is that the notably teary documentary Dear Zachary may finally have some competition as the most tear-inducing real-life film you ever watch. Even so, it’s wonderful and does as great job shining a light on how hard something like dementia hits people when they least expect it. (Also, the score and cinematography for the film are fabulous at provoking those sorrowful emotions even more.)
Arthur Jones’ doc FEELS GOOD MAN is available right now On Demand via the Fantasia Film Festival and will be available via other film festivals, like Oxford Film Festival, starting Friday. (It will also be in theaters, including Oxford’s drive-in!) The movie follows the journey of comics artist Matt Furie, who drew a comic called “Boys Club” that featured a strange frog character named Pepe, who I never heard of, but apparently, the odd underground comic character went from being a popular meme to becoming a symbol of the alt-right. It sounds pretty crazy, but it is an absolutely crazy story as Furie sees his lovable and peaceful slacker character get out from under his control as right wing kooks like Alex Jones from InfoWars gloms onto him.
At first, I wasn’t sure if I’d find this as interesting as the HBO doc, Beware the Slenderman (which I also happened to see at Fantasia a few years ago), but the way that Jones tells Furie and Pepe’s story is really quite compelling, especially as he (and we) watch the craziness surrounding his character unfold, and Pepe becomes less and less like something he wanted to be associated with. (Furie and his wife spent thousands of their own money-making Pepe T-shirts and merch only to have to destroy it all once Furie gets pegged as the creator of a hate image. I mean, holy shit, this thing gets ugly!)
Apparently, Feels Good Man won an “Emerging Filmmaker” Jury Award at Sundance, and it’s well-deserved. I’d recommend the movie to anyone who likes comics or politics and doesn’t mind when the two things collide.
There are a few other movies that I want to write about that I didn’t have time to watch despite having screeners and who knows, maybe I can watch them over this longer weekend if things aren’t too crazy screener-wise. (I lost quite a bit of time with my trip to Connecticut to see Tenet, unfortunately.)
First, there’s Julius Berg’s THE OWNERS (RLJEFilms), which stars Maisie Williams from Game of Thrones and Sylvester McCoy aka Doctor Who #6 (I think?). It’s about a group of friends who want to break into an empty house in which there’s a safe full of money, but when the elderly couple (including McCoy) return home early, they turn the tables in a deadly game of cat and mouse. Yeah, it does sound like it could be fun, and it’ll be in select theaters, On Demand and digital this Friday.
Also out on Digital, as well as DVD, Blu-Ray this week is the anime CHILDREN OF THE SEA (Shout! Factory/GKids) from director Ayumu Watanabe and STUDIO4ºC who made Mind Game and Tekkonkinkreet. It’s about a young girl named Ruka whose father works at an aquarium where she comes across two mysterious boys who were raised by dugongs (a type of sea cow) so they’re very familiar and acclimated to water, to the point where they have to be in or near it at all times, kind of like Aquaman. I did watch a little bit of this, and I do have to say that it looks gorgeous, definitely more photo-realistic than the work of Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli. I’m sure I’ll get around to watch the rest of it because I do enjoy well-made anime -- Weathering With You and Ride Your Wave are likely to be in my year-end Top 25, for instance – so hopefully, fans of anime and fantsy will check it out.
On Amazon Prime this Friday is Eric Merola’s doc THE ANDORRA HUSTLE, which look at the country of Andorra, located between France and Spain in the Pyrenees mountains, holding a population of 80,000 people who find themselves at the center of one of the most convoluted robberies in history in 2015 when a the private bank Banca Privada d’Andorra was shut down by the government to destroy the Catalonian Independence Movement, leaving dozens of innocent civilians facing jail time for laundering money after losing their life savings.
A couple prominent science fiction series premiere this weekend, including the Ridley Scott-produced Raised by Wolves on HBO Max and Away, starring Hillary Swank on Netflix. Someday, I hope to have
There’s a lot of other stuff that I didn’t have to watch or even think about it, so yeah, this is a little bit of a “lite edition” of the Weekend Warrior, so I apologize. Hopefully, I’ll be able to do better next week.
By the way, if you read this week’s column and have bothered to read this far down, feel free to drop me some thoughts at Edward dot Douglas at Gmail dot Com or drop me a note or tweet on Twitter. I love hearing from readers … honest!
