-that bess/lisbeth look while lisbeth does something badass (+diana reassessing now that lisbeth has been revealed to be useful)

-"almost as fun as a real fight" why do i believe him? lmaoooo a bit weird that he would enjoy a fight w a partner, but i also think this is an acknowledgement of nancy being an "opponent" who exists at his level. but i also love the "let me take you out" as a direct mirror of her relationship with nick, where she avoids the public acknowledgment/"going out" but prefers the more subtle/hidden arrangements of staying in. but as shown with later eps, owen is way more capable of meeting nancy where shes at, which is so important to her + the only way of getting close to nancy. (the only foil is ace who somehow is able to do both)

-"not always about a guy" <---- this could have been such a powerful statement if the show had thought having nancy end up alone/choose herself instead of pitting her between love interests (nick, owen, gil, even potentially ace, in only 2 seasons) was a more worthy stance to take ; as an aro/ace person i cant tell you how much i would kill to see just one female protag choose herself over a man. and its more realistic to end up alone than have a happy ending anyway, for all that these shows try to be as "real" and gritty grimdark as possible

-"is that what you want?" this is an interesting question to his mother- like maybe he senses her unhappiness? combined with his issues with his father- still trying to look out for his mom? either way it's sweet. (it could also potentially work as foreshadowing of something happening to her, but i think that was played with but then diverted when it was revealed who really killed her) "i think its time i steer this ship" still kind of patriarchal tho. i get that its him coming into his own as a dad technically but still. i also like how he calls her "mother" and not mom

-parent politics: "you are taking your life in your hands / no, i'm putting it in yours" vs "i know well enough not to get involved when hes in play" both carson and ryan try to dissuade nancy from pursuing her pulling this con on everett but go about it different ways: carson is wildly concerned with nancys physical wellbeing but ryan appears to be leaning more towards weighing the odds for her/ like a "you cant win so cut your losses/dont try" scenario which interestingly might have more weight with nancy; its easy for her to brush aside carson's worrying like second nature but nancy has been established to be a determined winner, and ryan speaks to her here like shes a beginners luck prodigy at a blackjack table by encouraging her to keep her record clean by not dealing in this next round. of course she herself admits shes incapable of not dealing in ie "you know me better than that" but i have lots more thoughts on how effective ryans approaches to nancy can be sometimes (saving for the reveal ep 🙏🏻)

-wonder what all carson knows about the hudsons? + that look on his face when he hangs up... wonder if he was just lying to her about knowing anything or just ashamed at having to admit bad things hes done for them

its fascinating that there was an ‘original’ magnus who was an actual guy, and then tyrest chose to make him into this legacy symbol - I'm assuming the OG magnus had no say in this, and probably didn't even know that he was gonna become this lawman legacy figure

I do wanna know though - obviously everyone thought that ultra magnus was one dude, but how did the different guys wearing the armor deal w/that? like, did minimus have people coming up to him like ‘hey ultra magnus old buddy! remember when we fought those guys in that one place? good times!’ like, do they have to study up on the lives of the past armor wearers to prepare for the role of ultra magnus?

augh poor minimus, of course he’s been wondering about what happened with overlord after he was KO’d

oof, drift...I feel like minimus looks surprised and a little skeptical at the idea that drift was the one behind the entire overlord thing - which is interesting bc as we saw at the beginning of the story, he doesn't exactly trust drift, but it’s still pretty far-fetched that one person orchestrated the entire thing

AUGHHHHH this is all so good and interesting...im really fascinated w/this particular brand of like, alien robot racism/constructism/whatever you wanna call it - I feel like it does such a good job as a plot device, where many other ‘fantasy racism’ concepts from other franchises fail, bc there's not really a ‘human metaphor’ being used here (as far as I know/can tell) - as in, this isn't a thinly veiled metaphor for something that happened/could happen in human history

in fact, this type of bigotry (or w/e you wanna call it) isn't something that is even really possible in humans - I guess if there was a stigma against being born via ivf or something...? but there isn't, so there's no obvious real-world equivalent, which I take as a sign of good writing and worldbuilding - it makes the cybertronians feel more Real, bc of course they would have their own types of bigotry based off of completely different things than humans

Why does growing up have to include me having kids and getting married?

I don't even know if I just wanna get married because somebody I used to be in love with was evil enough to kick me to the curb for getting engaged to their weird ass, controlling gf...

Or....yea maybe I just want a man to protect me and care for me at least just as much and even better than my dad could when he wasn't with me at school or at the time I kept my gay-fwb-bdsm-abuse scenario a secret from him....but he knows now.

I'd hate to see what happens if my dad was to see them in person, he's very protective of me.

I think maybe I just a want a better, much more rich, stable, healthier marriage than them, so I don't feel like the only representations of marriage I've seen personally was my parents and this abusive couple....who obviously have issues and still continue to sleep with other people even before they said I do yet...its like why even get married if your needs aren't even being met emotionally, mentally, spiritually, and physically with this person you've been with for over 6 years and they're still making attempts to break the rules you made for them so THEY WOULDN'T CHEAT ON YOU and yet they still continue to do so....

Yea I'd rather wait for the right on to prove to me otherwise. Cause what's the point of getting married to somebody who makes you feel like you're not good enough, doesn't wanna change, and never sees anything wrong with their bad, rude, mad, disrespectful behavior towards you? And then on top of that, continues to flirt with other women just because they have an appetite that never gets fulfilled because they have a sex addiction that ultimately surrounds your relationship that both of you are completely in denial of?

Like why are they pretending like their love is the strongest, healthiest, best thing in the world on social media, practically bragging about her when every time I see her she's looking for attention from other people and you're looking for women who look better than her to fuck. Like why not spend that time you guys spend on swiping on tinder and actually communicate how you two truly feel about being married, cause raising a kid in that toxic, sex crazed environment, where validation comes from you two hurting each other, breaking boundaries....like why even raise a child in that?

Ayunna said she wants to raise a baby because she's depressed. Thats not a good idea. Because babies don't always bring happiness. Just temporary until the real responsibility kicks in.

Look at my mom and my aunties for example, you lose sleep, back pains, fights, and arguments come from stressing out about a baby. And Ayunna is so damn cold, damaged, and emotionally closed off...I don't even wanna know what kind of fuck-up those two are gonna raise together. Because if you encourage and tolerate narcissistic, sociopathic, sadistic, and emotional abuse in your home...imagine what that child is gonna learn from these twisted idiots who have no idea how to even heal from their pasts and stop taking advantage of other people.

They're not good people, and bad people make bad parents. Just saying. Especially if you don't even care about taking care of each other's emotional insecurities, being completely honest with one another, or establishing morals....like these mfs don't even have morals. All they do is lie and have their way.

Real talk they don't even deserve to be parents until learn how to parent themselves the way their families never loved them. Cause we already got so many crazy, lost kids starting up so much chaos in the world and fucking up people's lives, it's a disaster.

Justice needs to happen before any of these two become real parents, capable of being there for a child and not abandoning them just because they get on their nerves or for being too sensitive. That's the main reason they really don't have friends, cause they keep people out even when somebody is nice to them, they don't know how to talk and communicate with people in general, and they don't know how to compromise or delegate or just be a team member. Y'all suck and it shows on how ya'll negotiate. Not everybody is gonna kiss your ass Ayunna and nobody is gonna bow down and do as you say, Jay. So stop. Y'all are not king and queen, and Jay as a king would be a tyrant, keeping all the resources for themselves and Ayunna, the only people that matter to them.

also im back friends hi hello!!  I’m going to write a recap of what I thought of the Steven Universe special under a read more tag, but before I do, let me just say that I’ll be tagging all spoilers AND scheduling them not to be posted until friday at the earliest!  So you have until Friday to catch up or blacklist the tag “SU spoilers” //thumbs up// least from my blog

With that out of the way, MAJOR SU spoilers for the new special under the cut!

Important points that I made while watching this:

- This list isnt going to be in order of events but just so you know, I rewatched the two episodes that led up to this event (”are you my dad” and “i am my mom”) and I had already seen the first episode of the event prior to today, but I rewatched it anyways 

- CATERPILLAR FUSION hello I’ve found what I want my gemsona to look like //shot

- I actually laughed really hard at the caterpillar fusion and she was really off-putting at first, but I did some pondering while watching the episodes and realized that if she has six gems, I guess its not that unlikely that she’d look like a caterpilar.  Maybe.  Her face probably should be more monstrous given the fusions we’ve seen in the past, but w/e

- also i think she’s an allegory for polyamory? so thats cool

- Also more-than-three-people polyamory, also cool

- But enough about the caterpillar

- Cotton candy lars

- COTTON CANDY LARS

- Something that I didnt even register as a SU spoiler and completely forgot about ended up spoiling that scene for me, but cmon, they couldn’t have killed lars in that scene.  It may be SU, the Dark and Emotional show, but it’s also SU, the show intended for easily scarrable children.  There’s enough emotional baggage and traumatic content in these six episodes (including “are you my dad” and “I am my mom”) as it is, we dont need a character death on our hands

- now if it was me I would’ve killed him, but this is why I shouldn’t be allowed within ten feet of children’s television (even though I plan to write for it ehehehehehe)

- Can you imagine if he did die for real tho??  It was such a sudden death??  And after doing something heroic??  Because I can imagine that and I have worse deaths in my stories eHEHEHEHEHEHE

- Did I mention cotton candy lars

- seriously I want to eat his hair

- dont take that out of context

- Overall, if you’re going to bring a character back to life, this was how to do it.  There was a heartbreaking moment where (someone who wasnt spoiled) might actually get concerned, but then you brought him back almost immediately but with legitimate consequences.  That’s the best of both worlds, bless.

- Although I am against the idea of bringing characters back to life in general.  Which is hypocritical considering I have an entire world where everyone gets a second chance after dying, but like, if you actually read Oneiromon it’s not that blatant and furthermore you can legitimately and completely kill an Oneiromon almost as easily as you can degenerate it

- I love the plot opportunities that this opens up, though??  Like how are they gonna handle getting Lars and the gem rejects (new band name) back home?  Are they gonna show it?  Are they gonna have an episode that doesnt star Steven?  HOW ARE THEY GONNA DO ITTTT and beyond that, how are they gonna get home in general?

- Please dont tell me that the next episode just drops it without a word though.  I dont think I can handle another plot point that’s Ignored For 10 Episodes and then Miraculously Remembered when it’s clearly an urgent matter that needs immediate attending to

- I’ll probably make a separate post about this but....whats this discourse about the diamonds being “too relatable”??  I think this has been an issue since Blue Diamond was revealed (too fuckin lazy to find the episode name) but I saw a glimpse of it while I was avoiding spoilers last week.  And like “they’re intergalactic warlords, they kill innocent people, they tried to kill the earth, they’re not good people” yes you’re right but...there’s a thing called “relatable characters” that I think you should check out??  That’s a writing tactic.  It’s meant to show that the villains are real people too, and politics-wise it can be to show that the next Hitler could be any one of us (IE the [original] Lorax, which...wasnt meant to show us that we could be hitler, but was meant to warn us that any of us could destroy the environment without realizing it)  If your villain is distant and one-dimensional, that is BAD WRITING.  Unless your movie is some kind of documentary or a movie without a clear villain or historical fiction, you SHOULD NOT have a one-note completely evil villain.  Even if you have an excuse to.  If your villains do not have the same range of emotions as your protagonists, you’re doing it wrong.  Like, you dont have to make Hitler relatable, but the Diamonds aren’t Hitler.  They’re fictional characters.  Nobody’s got PTSD because of what they did to their friends, family, and people.  When you’re writing fantasy, you’re allowed to show ranges of the human life that you may not see otherwise, and that includes showing that even mass murderers are human.  Furthermore, I would agree with the criticisms if the show wanted you to sympathize with them so that “oh they’re just doing whats right uvu the gems are the bad guys” but thats...not what the show seems to be saying at all?  Avatar: the Last Airbender gave Azula a rounded character with motivations and emotions, but that doesn’t mean the writers wanted us to forgive her for being a nazi (or at least supporting nazi ideology).  That’s all I see with the Diamonds in SU; a villain that’s supposed to be understandable and potentially relatable, but not redeemable.

- Now, White Diamond not being in the episode is 100% a valid criticism to have.  What the fuck, SU, where is she.

- Overall I really liked the special.  I’m glad Lars might stop being a relatable jackass and I’m always a sucker for sappy emotions //thumbs up

- I’m sure there was other stuff but my brain is flatlining and I need to get to bed, goodnight
