well. no. not really. the bury your gays trope has roots in the hayes code which mandated that gay/queer/'deviant' characters be shown as villainous and/or die by the end of the story. (i do think we're past the point where any instance of a dead lgbt+ character counts as byg for the record; i would say now it more has to do with whether the character's death is or appears to be associated with their queerness in the language of film, whether or not they're the only lgbt+ character/half of the only lgbt+ couple, whether the purpose is to create tragedy for their partner if they have one and little else, how violent/shocking the death is, etc. -- metrics like that.) but it's not really about whether or not it serves the journey of the 'straight protagonist'. that's much more akin to how the fridging of female characters works. by this definition cl*xa wouldn't count as byg and i thought that was pretty universally considered a prime example lol

"Oh, I mean. No complaints from me."
Your skin crawled at the sound of a voice you hadn't heard in centuries. Agatha Harkness.
You felt like you would be sick at the sound of the second voice.
"Interesting."
Rio Vidal.
Without a second thought, you were on your feet and sprinting away from them. You dodged through trees and bushes, cursing when you heard footsteps following.
It had been centuries since you last saw the pair, and you wanted to get far away from them.
When you first met them, you were dead. Death had come to reap your soul but she didn't. She resurrected you and kept you as her pet. You met Agatha a few weeks after that.
They were awful and cruel owners. Your body never healed, even after you escaped. You hated thinking about what they did to you. But you hated even more that you loved them for it.
Rio slammed into you and sent you flying to the ground. She buried her hand in your hair and sat on your stomach, pinning your arms down with her legs.
"You can't run from us, idiot." She laughed her wicked laugh. "We're on the Witches' Road."
Agatha appeared by her side.
"Let me die, please." You begged.
"I'd never let you die," Rio whispered.
You sniffled. She had never let you die. Multiple times you had killed yourself to end their torture but she brought you back each time. Your death doesn't exist when Death does.
Her lips connected with yours and you hated how perfectly they morphed together. Her hand drifted down to your pants and you made a noise of discomfort.
She hushed you and tugged your pants down enough to reveal your panties to her. She ignored cries as she pushed them to the side and collected your slick on two fingers.
"All we've done is kiss and you're already wet. Looks like someone missed me." Rio grinned.
"I hate you."
Rio and Agatha rolled their eyes in sync. Their synchronisation was something you always loved about them.
Agatha crouched next to you. She lovingly caressed your cheek with a small smile. Then the smile was replaced by an angered frown and she slapped you.
"We gave you everything and you left us for two centuries. You're such an ungrateful little bitch." She snarled.
You flinched. The pain from her slap was somewhat comforting.
"I hate you. I hate you both." You fought against Rio's hold. "I wish you both would die. You don't deserve to live."
"That's ironic telling Death that you wish she was dead," Rio said.
Agatha grabbed your jaw and squeezed until it dropped open. You cringed as her spit hit your tongue, but held it obediently until she told you to swallow.
"Good girl. It looks like you haven't forgotten your training after all this time."
You wanted to roll your eyes and snap back the question about how you could forget their training. It was still so drilled into your mind that you caught yourself still acting how they trained you to act even when they weren't there.
Tears prickled in your eyes as Rio pushed a single finger inside of you and pumped a slow, steady pace. You kept eye contact with Agatha, afraid she would get angry if you looked away.
"You should know that crying doesn't get you anywhere," Agatha said, wiping your tears away with her thumb.
"I can't control it," You meekly replied.
They laughed.
Rio added two more fingers, stretching you out perfectly. Your walls clenched around her fingers and you whimpered from the pain. Her thumb pressed against your clit and you squirmed in her hold.
Agatha pulled Rio into a heated kiss. There was a small fight for dominance that Agatha won. When they pulled apart, you saw that Rio's lip was bleeding. Agatha cupped her jaw and licked the blood away.
Your whimper pulled their attention to you.
"Feeling left out, huh?" Rio asked.
Her thumb rubbed circles on your clit and she pumped her fingers faster. She curled her fingers upwards and pressed against your g-spot.
The familiar feeling started to build in your stomach.
You bit your tongue. You weren't going to beg, not this time.
"Don't get fucking bratty." Rio snapped. "Beg for it."
You ignored Rio.
"Come on, sweetheart." Agatha cooed.
You ignored Agatha, too.
Rio ripped her fingers from you and slapped your cunt, making you cry out. She stood and licked her fingers clean, disappointment painted on her face.
Your ruined orgasm made you want to cry.
"Get up." She said in a monotone voice. "We have a road to walk."
You pulled your pants up and cringed at the uncomfortable wet feeling as you scrambled to your feet.
"And don't you dare think you're going to escape." Agatha shoved you towards Rio, who was walking ahead. Agatha walked behind you, keeping you caged between them.
You stifled a sob.
You would never be free from them. They owned you and you couldn't do anything about it.
All you can do is accept it.

Guys. I've just had an idea. (Spoilers)
(Assuming the Road is real and not Billy's/Rio's trick....)
What if .
Crazy Thought No 1
This wasn't Agatha's trial but Teen's. The 80s teenage summer camp is hard to fit with her, then there is the the ouija board, Teen in his Wiccan costume... There was no clue to solve and also, someone noted that the ratio aspect of the trial hasn't actually changed.
All those differences could be because he's a Familiar, male witch etc (he was treated differently by the demon from Alice's curse). Could kind of track with him being the Spirit because Billy's soul would've literally had to travel and reincarnate.
Which is why at the end of all that it is Teen/Billy who finally gains his full Wiccan powers. Maybe he doesn't even realise what he's doing when he's attacking Agatha, Lilia and Jen, because he's in grief (akin to Wanda)? So in the next episode we will find out he snaps out of it and pulls the witches back out and apologises?
Maybe if Agatha didn't try to goof pretending to be Mrs Hart and taunt the spirits, then the trial would've gone completely different?
Crazy Thought No 2
Anyway.... Alice is dead and I am 90% sure Lilia will also die in her trial. But, at the beginning of this episode Agatha talked about the broomstick speel in terms of selflessness and that they have to do it together or not at all.
That brings me to the part where Alice dies but there are promo stills where she wakes up in the same room she died, but in her normal clothes. These could be Marvel trolls (there was a promo shot of Alice wielding her orange power while riding the broom and we didn't see that happen... Yet?).
But if true, then in my mind this could mean one of two things: either this is just a scene to show how Rio reaps her soul after everyone left, and thus reveal Rio's identity as Lady Death.
And/or it's a part of a bigger ploth. Where at the end we get to Agatha's real trial where she really has to communicate with the dead - the dead being Alice and Lilia (and Sharon?) and has to bring them back because they need to finish the Road "together or not at all".
But to do that, Agatha has to be selfless and die. So we get our Agathario kiss where Rio sends her to the underworld. Maybe that's when Lilia actually sends her messages back to the past moments (i.e. "Alice don't try to save Agatha" and "You know, we really hated each other in the beginning but now I love you guys!" etc).
So in the end Agatha either brings them all back or helps Lilia change the course of actions so that they don't die in the first place? And while dead, she gets to meet her son one final time and gets her closure? 😭🙏

lets talk: agatha all along finale
ahead: spoilers obvi, and my VERY annoyed thoughts read at your own risk. and remember something VERY important: these are MY thoughts, MY opinions on MY page.
before i get into the bad, which there was a lot of imo, lets talk about what i loved
☆ i loved that jen got away and got her powers back. i really love her character and i hope we see her again. still crazy how agatha is the one who bound her like omg ???? good for her love that diva
☆ i love the agatha and nicky scenes. and then creating the ballad together, soooo sweet. she was such a good mom im so sad
☆ i love the alice part as heartbreaking as it was
☆ the part where billy created the makeshift grave for alice, lilia, and sharon
☆ "MY LOVE" "YOU LOVE ME" "WHY DON'T YOU WANT ME" im sickkkk they're absolutely insane and i love them so so much
☆ rio planting the flowers over agatha's grave, im sickkkk
☆ AGATHARIO KISS !!! was so so beautiful and passionate i love them.
☆ ghost agatha is sexy, don't know how i feel about her hair tho. some angles i like it, some angles i dont
now what did i hate, just about everything else.
☆ i hate how the first time we get a lesbian kiss in marvel, one of them dies. the bury your gays trope is so fucking tired. wrap it up. i don't care about male gay rep because they already had it in the mcu with eternals, it's not fair that when lesbians finally get rep, we don't get to keep it.
☆ not only do i just not fucking like billy, i hate how so much of this show centered around him, like if this was supposed to get me excited and into billy, it failed drastically. FUCK BILLY ??? WHO CARES ??? the show is called agatha all along and i feel like it was billy all along in too many parts. we didnt even get to see too much of her because of HIM. ALSO her sacrificing herself just to end up basically being his ghost side kick is also stupid. because while i get agatha not being able to face her son again, then why kill her ? why not let her live, what because he's a maximoff that we're supposed to see in later projects ??? like who gives a shit.
✧ they put entirely too much of this show on wiccan / joe's popularity and it didnt work nor make sense.
☆ also, on the topic of billy, i don't get why agatha just didnt drain his power and kill him. i know she made the deal with rio and stuff but he could've reincarnated into another body and they could continue wiccan's journey like that but in a different body. it honestly just seems like marvel sacrificed agatha to keep joe locke and its like who fucking cares.
☆ i hate how im left with more questions than answers.
✧ how and why did rio and agatha get married? agatha has been killing witches for so long, and im assuming rio appeared everytime, when did they get together?
✧ rio referes to nicholas as nicky, why? from what we saw in those 6 years agatha and nicky were together, she wasn't there.
✧ why did they make it seem like we would see them raising nicky together?
✧ they described agathario's history as "long and complicated", yet we never saw that or the aftermath of their relationship after rio took nicky? did rio and nicky meet before? because he seemed to know her or at least not be scared enough to feel "stranger danger" like what happened.
✧ in episode 4, we get agathario almost kiss and hat seemed like a healing moment for them and in the end we get agatha never wanting to see rio again ? why ? what happened that we didn't see for this seemingly drastic change.
✧ in ep 5, rio very clearly hates agatha's mother and refuses to let agatha go with her, and obviously we as an audience can infer the reason why, agatha told her what happened but still.
✧ how did the agatha trading nicky for the darkhold rumor even start ? agatha gave birth alone in the woods and gave him a completely different name, who knew about her son ? how did they find out ? im sooo confused by all of this
i love this show, or at least the concept, but i don't love the execution. it was supposed to be about us learning and getting to know agatha and i honestly feel like i don't know her at all. i loved eps 1-4 and ep 7, everything else, eh.
thanks for coming to my ted talk !

The kiss did kill Agatha but it was because she made it happen. "That's cute, but you know that [absorbing Rio's powers] would kill me" they had that line for a reason and having the line again on the previously on was to remind the audience of that. So a normal agathario kiss wouldn't cause death, but Agatha actually absorbing Rio's powers while kissing definitely would.
That being said, I agree with all the things you highlighted that you liked. May I ask which things you would've done different or didn't love as much, maybe?
Also, from the most neutral point of view, do you think Agatha still loves Rio? Did she ever?
I agree with that read! Note: this also means Rio would have needed to let her magic go into Agatha. Agatha can only take when blasted with magic, not by touching people, so Rio was aware she was killing her but it was Agatha's choice to take it on the mouth
Ooh good questions, time to play editor / script doctor for a bit. This is probably going to be long... and can be negative so I'm keeping it under a cut.
Things I did not love / would have done differently — not comprehensive — just off the top of my head:
For the love of god use a different ghost SFX. I hate the current one with the fire of 10,000 suns. It makes it hard to see the actor's performance, their outfit, and it messes with their body language as well. Outside the fantastical reality of the Road, it's too distracting.
Burn that white-grey wig for ghost!Agatha. Between this and the SFX I was struggling to focus on the scenes and their pathos. I think Episode 5 wasn't so bad because Evanora didn't really do much except float around in a smock and say some mean lines but Agatha's moving around, talking a lot, and trying to land some emotional beats.
The whole showdown in the garden feels weird to me, and I think you can tell that they only Aubrey Plaza for a limited time: she barely seems to be in the same frame except for the kiss? I suspect that's why we have shots focused on Billy hitting the greenhouse, Death on the house, and a very very short magical fight. You also don't get proper reactions from Rio on what could have been a couple of revealing beats like when Agatha initially offers Billy up and walks away.
The big one: I'm not convinced Agatha had a proper arc here. If it was planned I don't think it landed for me. You get a hint of Agatha making some peace with how death just happens at the end of the earth trial: "Sometimes boys die" – beautiful moment -– but it doesn't seem to follow through? Yes, she ultimately makes a choice that allows Rio to continue pursuing her (because Rio would have kept her word if Agatha handed Billy over). But coming to terms with her grief and Nicky's death? Has she forgiven Rio? Has she forgiven herself? It feels unresolved to me imho.
Agatha being protective of Billy is... some development I guess but she was already instinctively protective of him in like Episode 3, and by then she already knew he wasn't Nicky. I needed more growth from Agatha, I think?
I'm not sure about the whole mental messaging power of Billy's. Is it supposed to imply he's also reading Agatha's mind? Did he not say it out loud because then we'd have to get a reaction from Rio and Plaza isn't available?
Cast a younger kid for Nicky lol. I know there are production limitations but to me that kid looks too old for a 6-7 year old. Is it just me? I don't usually hang out with kids.
Streamline the flashbacks with Agatha and Nicky. We get it: she loves him, it's their song, he's not a fan of the murdering, he dies. I'd fit in a scene (it can be a short one) to underline how Rio did care about Nicky (she visits him?) and show Agatha having conflicting feelings about loving but fearing Death.
In an ideal world, not have Billy in his superhero outfit because that should have had some build-up for a reveal. I know it's Marvel and they need to sell merch and stuff but there really was enough stuff going on and how the hell did Billy get that suit anyway? The crown I can overlook but the rest is weird to me. --
For your last question about Agatha loving Rio I'll tackle it in another Anon Ask coming up that's similar!

[AGATHARIO] Death Incarnate: Cornered
Note from the author: Death Incarnate is a series of shorter (mostly random) pieces that I don't necessarily want to post on my AO3. They are solely focused on Agatha and Rio. My brain is just rotting too much, I need to get it out.
This piece was originally written for my friend who suggested the prompt of Agatha breathing against Rio's spine and biting her sides. Enjoy!
“Against the wall, Rio.”
Agatha’s words send a shiver down Rio’s spine, only for it to crawl through her entire body and explode between her thighs, forcing her to listen. She subconsciously spreads her legs as both her palms land flat on the wall. Her face clings to it too, eyes closed.
She can only hear and feel now.
And she does; she hears Agatha shift and move closer. The steps are quiet, almost inaudible. That’s precisely why Rio gasps when she feels one of Agatha’s hands touch her right hip, slithering across it to finally dig into the skin, “You look so good like this.”
She’s going to combust.
She doesn’t say anything, however, as she knows that would be something a bad girl would do. And she doesn’t want to be a bad girl. Not when she can be a good one.
So, she waits patiently.
Agatha is slow, deliberate and cruel. Her fingers brush the skin on her hip softly again before digging in once more to stay there this time. After waiting a few more seconds, only to infuriate Rio, she inches forward enough for her breath to land on Rio’s spine.
It sends another strong shiver through it as Rio lets out a choked moan, trying to keep quiet. Seeing her reaction makes Agatha scoff against the skin on her back.
“I know, baby. It’s too much for you, isn’t it?”
Rio tries to respond but ends up letting out a mixture of whining and whimpering as Agatha now trails both her sides with her hands and crouches slightly to bring her mouth to one of Rio’s sides. She kisses it first, making Rio’s whole body tremble with want, “Be good for me now,” and then bites the skin firmly.
Rio moans properly this time, losing her balance slightly as the sensation shoots right through her to her core. Agatha scoffs again, kissing the bite mark.
“Sweet girl,” she suddenly gives her another bite, “what are we going to do with you?”

Baking Chaos
Y/n = Your Name
Y/n/n = Your Nickname
AgathaRio x daughter!reader
It was a crisp Saturday morning in Westview, the sun lazily peeking through the curtains of Agatha's cozy kitchen. The Harkness household was buzzing with excitement. Today was a special occasion- the anniversary of the day they had first moved into their little corner of Westview, a day that had turned into an annual family tradition. And what better way to celebrate than by baking a cake together?
Of course, as with most things in the Harkness household, the process was far from simple.
Y/n, standing at the kitchen island, surveyed the clutter that had already spread across the counters. Bowls were stacked haphazardly, bags of flour and sugar were torn open, and there were splashes of milk and eggshells littering the workspace. And they hadn't even started mixing the batter yet.
"Are we making a cake or a disaster zone?" Y/n teased, brushing flour from her hair as she tossed a glance toward her mom, Rio, who was eagerly rifling through a cookbook.
"Disaster? Y/n/n, this is how the magic happens," Rio grinned, her fingers skimming the pages until she found a basic cake recipe. "Well, the non-magical kind, anyway."
Agatha stood by the stove, arms folded across her chest, shaking her head with an amused smile. "We're doing this the old-fashioned way, Rio."
"Amorcito, we could have this cake done in ten minutes if you let me help a little." Rio wiggled her fingers, the tiniest spark of magic lighting the tips. "Think about it. Cake, perfect frosting, all without the hassle."
Agatha raised an eyebrow. "That's cheating."
Rio rolled her eyes, tossing the cookbook aside. "It's not cheating, mi amor. It's called being efficient."
Y/n giggled as she grabbed the mixing bowl, watching her mother's banter. "I think Mom just wants to show off her magic. Mama's the one who insists we do everything 'by the book.'"
Agatha gave Y/n a playful, exasperated look. "Your mother has no patience for tradition."
"Tradition, mi vida, is overrated," Rio shot back, blowing a kiss in Agatha's direction. "You can't tell me this wouldn't be better with a little magic."
"And where's the fun in that?" Agatha replied, walking over to grab the eggs. "Part of the charm of baking is doing it with your hands. Mixing, measuring, getting a little messy-"
"Or a lot messy," Y/n interrupted with a grin, gesturing toward the flour now dusting every surface in the room.
Agatha couldn't help but laugh. "Okay, yes, maybe we went a little overboard."
"Mujer, you're making this harder than it needs to be," Rio said, watching as Agatha began cracking eggs one by one into the bowl. "Let me just stir it with a little-"
"No magic, Rio!" Agatha said firmly, though her smile softened the command.
Y/n leaned against the counter, already covered in flour and smudges of cocoa powder. "You're both ridiculous. As long as we get cake out of this, I'll be happy."
Rio sighed dramatically, casting a glance at her daughter. "You see what I have to put up with, Y/n? This one," she nodded toward Agatha, "is stubborn."
"And this one," Agatha retorted, gesturing toward Rio, "wants to wave her hands and get everything done in five seconds. Where's the joy in that?"
Rio rolled her eyes again, but this time with affection. "The joy is in eating the cake, mi cielo. Not in wasting time whisking the batter like it's 1692."
Agatha couldn't help but chuckle at that. "Maybe so, but I like doing things the traditional way sometimes. And I'm not budging on this one."
With a resigned sigh, Rio finally gave in and crossed her arms. "Fine, fine, mi vida. But if this cake doesn't turn out perfect, don't say I didn't offer."
Y/n shook her head, grabbing a whisk and handing it to Agatha. "Alright, Mama, let's get this started. The sooner we finish, the sooner we eat."
"Exactly," Agatha replied, flashing Y/n a proud smile as she began to whisk the eggs and sugar together.
They worked in harmony for a while, Agatha leading the charge as Y/n followed her instructions, adding flour and cocoa to the mixture. Meanwhile, Rio leaned against the counter, quietly observing her wife and daughter, though every now and then, she'd throw in a comment or a suggestion-usually about how much faster it would be if they just used a little magic.
Y/n, now covered in even more flour, glanced at Rio with a grin. "Mom, I think you're just itching to use a spell, aren't you?"
"I'm not itching," Rio said with mock innocence, "I'm just saying-this would be done by now."
"Where's the fun in that?" Y/n said, echoing Agatha's words with a laugh. "Besides, we're almost done with the batter."
Rio sighed dramatically again but smiled. "Alright, alright, I'll wait. But don't say I didn't warn you."
As they poured the thick batter into the pan, Y/n couldn't help but feel a sense of accomplishment. Sure, they could have used magic to speed things up, but there was something nice about taking their time. The kitchen might be a mess, but it was filled with laughter and warmth, the scent of cocoa lingering in the air.
"Okay, into the oven it goes," Agatha said, carefully sliding the pan into the preheated oven. She turned to Rio and Y/n with a grin. "Now we wait."
"And clean," Y/n added, looking at the disaster around them. "This place is a wreck."
Rio clapped her hands together, her smile widening. "Mi amor, can I now use a little magic?"
Agatha pretended to think about it before finally giving a nod. "Fine. But only for cleaning."
Rio beamed, waving her hand as the flour and sugar began lifting off the countertops and into the sink. The bowls and utensils followed, floating through the air and washing themselves in the process.
Y/n watched with wide eyes, laughing as the kitchen transformed back to its original spotless state in a matter of seconds. "Now that's impressive."
Agatha just shook her head, a smile playing on her lips. "I knew you couldn't resist."
"Hey, I said I'd wait until the cake was in the oven," Rio teased, planting a kiss on Agatha's cheek. "And now we can relax."
As they waited for the cake to bake, the three of them settled onto the couch, exhausted from the chaos of the kitchen. Y/n stretched out, throwing a blanket over herself, feeling the peacefulness of the moment. It was rare that they had these lazy, unhurried days together, and she cherished every second of it.
Eventually, the timer went off, and they all rushed back into the kitchen to check on their creation.
Y/n opened the oven door cautiously, peeking inside. "Uh... well, it's a little..."
Rio leaned over her shoulder, her face breaking into a wide grin. "Oh querido Dios, it's lopsided."
Agatha stepped closer, eyeing the cake. "It's perfect," she said confidently as if the uneven rise of the cake was exactly what she had planned all along.
Y/n burst out laughing. "Mama, it's definitely not perfect. But it smells amazing."
"Perfection is overrated," Agatha replied, crossing her arms with a smirk.
Rio chuckled, pulling out a knife to cut a piece. "I told you we should have used magic."
Agatha playfully bumped Rio with her hip. "It wouldn't have the same charm."
They sliced into the slightly lopsided cake, and as soon as they tasted it, the three of them erupted into satisfied smiles.
Y/n took a big bite and hummed in contentment. "Okay, it may not look perfect, but it tastes amazing."
Rio winked at her daughter. "See? We make a good team."
Agatha leaned against the counter, watching her family with a warm smile. "It's not about perfection," she said softly. "It's about the memories."
Rio wrapped an arm around Agatha's waist and kissed her temple. "Te amo, mi amor. You're right. It's always about the memories."
And as they sat down together at the kitchen table, laughing and eating cake, Y/n realized that it wasn't the end result that mattered. It was the joy in the chaos, the laughter in the imperfections, and the love they shared through it all.

I finished the episode and it was great, like all the show ! Seriously Agatha makes me laugh so much.
I wondered if she imagined Rio in her flat for their pizza date or if she was really there. My theory is that Rio cannot reach Agatha physically because of the spell but she can do it spiritually. Which is even funnier if she made up all these ambigious lines !
And I saw a lot of negative comments which I don't understand.
1) "why isn't Agatha worried about Rio ?"
She knows that Rio is Death and have a job to do. Plus she just survived the muddy mortal trap so she is focused on Billy and what happened.
2) "this episode sucks because it is not focused on Agatha / on Agathario"
No it does not. Stop make everything centered about Agathario. Don't get me wrong, i love the ship, but all the show isn't about them making out. Billy is an interesting character and I think this episode was necessary to understand the lore. And some of these comments were low key homophobic (calling him Twink in a bad way). Just imagine if we talked about Agatha like that...
3) "the first kiss should've been Agathario, they lied to us with this intimate coordinator"
Stop. Agathario's dynamic is so much powerful than a kiss or a sex scene. They just need to look each other. And don't worry I'm sure they had centuries of sexy time.
Which leads me to a final comment. A lot of people said they would rate the show 1/5 if Agatha dies or if Rio betrays Agatha. Now, as you know I'm a huge Agatha fan. But I prefer coherence over fan service. This is why I would rather have a Agatha vs Rio badass fight than a happy ending with everyone laughing and dancing.
Anyway it's just my opinion.
Can't wait for the next episode !

after that agatha finale i have many thoughts about rio as death and all the symbolism behind her actions so beware of spoilers for the whole series also in no particular order its gonna be stuff i remember so I'll be jumping around
I'm going to start with the last agathario scene that we gays were hoping The Kiss™️ which is kinda obvious about a kiss from death which is very common in literature and it symbolizes dying so that part was very direct, idk if this means they never kissed before or not but in that moment agatha had a clear goal of getting rio's power for herself and they both knew it would kill her as she said in the first ep... this does imply that she probably tried to do this before but rio stopped her when they were in love all those centuries ago
which kinda goes into a theory that maybe their first entanglement (whatever that implies) created nicky, cause agatha says she didn't do a spell or incantation to create him, he was made from scratch, and rio being The green witch™️ deals not only with death and decay but the cycle of life and death, creation and destruction, so it makes sense that he is their child, created from their love, which is why it hurt them both when she had to take him away, he was also something that challenged the balance of the universe, like billy, and rio allowed agatha to keep him with a timetable that nobody knew
and that takes me into the witches death that agatha killed to keep her son alive, she knew that giving bodies to death would allow rio to turn a blind eye to her child, and it makes for great symbolism with the sentence "death follows wherever they go" because it wasn't that agatha wanted to kill people, she had to so nicholas could survive, because death *was* following her wherever she went, they fell in love and rio had to make the tough decision of leaving her so she wouldn't take away agatha's most prized possession, their kid, and once she did have to do it she still kept following agatha because now she was actually killing witches just to have power and stay alive, she was grieving and murder became her go to (not a good thing) but death kept following wherever she went
and that is possibly why rio never got over her, she was always pursuing agatha and she didn't have time to let go, so at the end when agatha makes the deal to give up billy in exchange of rio letting go of her it had both the meaning of allowing her to be immortal and to forget about agatha, she was tired of having death follow her and they both knew the only way that could happen was for rio to give up her feelings and stop wanting to be with her
another thing is the whole tarot symbolism of death, as a major arcana in most decks death means the closing of a cycle, it isn't a bad card even though people see death as a bad thing, but the whole lilia ep was about showing how her cycle was about to finish (not necessarily meaning her death btw) and through all of the road each of them had their cycles closed, alice managed to get rid of her curse, jen got her power back, lilia finally understood her timeline and organized her thoughts to save her coven, billy found more power and possibly where his twin could be, agatha got the power she wanted for a bit and rio finally put agatha on the ground
also i could talk about how lilia might still be alive but that's a different rant that will come some other time
anyway i just really loved all the death symbolism throughout the whole show and how well they portrayed everything, aubrey did an amazing job as rio and i do hope they use her again in the mcu since we've had so many deaths and there will be more and how she deals with some of the things that don't necessarily follow the natural order of things (just please don't make it comic death cause rio is a lesbian she would never fall in love with thanos)

Agatha All Along finale spoilers
Okay wow, this was a rollercoaster of emotions. Honestly I was most afraid we wouldn't get a hopeful ending but we did and for that I'm happy. Biggest downside to the ending is that we didn't get the AgathaRio origin story we wanted but I'm hoping against hope that they'll make it a mini series or something or that they plan to use it at a later time. Perhaps in a 2nd season of AAA? There's enough meat on the bones for a few flashback scenes in between the Agatha and Billy shenanigans we'd get from a 2nd season of AAA. I need need need to see how AgathaRio met and fell in love and then their rift. (And how they will go forward from here on. They obviously love each other but their hurt and anger is still not completely solved). Agatha as a ghost gives me the hope that she'll at one point get her body back, anything is possible at this point! Agatha and Rio's story is far from over.
The Billy/Agatha scene in the last trial was so heartwrenching, when she helped him guide Tommy to a body. "Sometimes...boys die" Just take my heart and stomp on it why don't you Jac. And Kathryn Hahn's delivery??? Give her all the awards right now!
Or the unbinding of Jennifer Kale (the worst type of vegetable hahaha).
Also Agatha saying to Billy he wasn't the one to get her out of Wanda's spell, hinting at it being Rio's doing! Shivers!
The good thing about the finale in my opinion is the amazing AgathaRio kiss we got! I've seen people speculate it was their first kiss because of how it ended but I believe it ended the way it did because Agatha was draining Rio's magic knowing it would kill her, something she wouldn't have done in the past.
All their delicious dialogue;
Agatha calling Rio: "My love"
"Power looks good on you" -"Honey, everything looks good on me"
"Congratulations my love" followed by an insane cackle
Blowing a kiss to disrupt Agatha's spell lol these dramatic hoes I swear
Just realized they both call each other "my love" Kill me now guys
Agatha ordering Rio :"Now put my yard back. Why don't you plant a few azaleas on your way out" Woof it's like they've done this a million times, fighting/foreplay rinse repeat.
The tears in Rio's eyes as Agatha sacrifices herself/found a loophole to her deal with Rio.
They way Rio flicks Billy away like he's a pest while they are flirting I mean fighting.
Other highlights; it was Billy All Along by making the road manifest and of course it was Agatha All Along making up the Witches' Road myth to murder witches!
Nicky and Agatha's backstory was so sweet and heartwrenching.
The fact that Death gave Agatha six years with her/their son before collecting his soul.... kick me while I'm lying down...
The Witches' Road being Agatha and Nicky's song truly ripped my heart to pieces.
And how gently Rio took Nicky with her to the afterlife while holding hands...
Conclusion
Agatha All Along was an amazing series, full of intrigue, worldbuilding, found family in the shape of a coven, heartbreak, complex lesbian relationships and a compelling and flawed main hero.
And while it didn't deliver on everything I wanted it as close to a perfect series as it gets in my opinion. It will remain as one of my favorite series for a long long time.
Some questions I still have
When and how did Agatha get the Darkhold
Why was Rio so angry with Agatha
How did they meet and fall in love
What happened in Salem and what was the power/knowledge above her station as stated by Evanora
Where's Wanda
Why couldn't Rio kill Agatha in the first ep? The "It's not allowed!" Line
Now that Agatha is a ghost does that mean she can go pester Rio and then finally get back together?
Or will the fact that she helped Billy get Toby Tommy a new body mean they will face off again?

what the fuck. what the fuck.
SPOILERS FOR AGATHA ALL ALONG EP 8 AND 9
I was so fucking hyped for this shit because I thought maybe my little lesbians would get a happy-ish ending. Instead, Agatha gets killed in her own show and becomes a side piece to Billy, the one male in a female dominated show; Rio just walks away after Agatha dies???? Huh??? Mf that's the love of her life right there, she wouldn't just walk away; the whole point of the road was to get what you're missing, and Agatha needed to learn to move on from her grief, she was missing peace, but instead of accepting death and Rio and Nicky, she just stays as a ghost???? I don't find that satisfying at all; they teased a Tommy return but didn't actually give it to us and I was kinda disappointed; Rio wasn't in the last episode at all besides the flashback, and she didn't even say shit; we got agatha and nicky's story but no agathario?? Rude but okay; and ik she's like crazy and shit but you're telling me Rio was actually going to kill Agatha?? And also in the beginning they said Rio couldn't kill her so wtf; IM SO TIRED OF THE BURY YOUR GAYS BULLSHIT IM AT THE END OF MY ROPE
But on the plus side that kiss was fire AS FUCK and Agatha pretty much said "if I'm dying I'm going out with style and kissing this hot mf" and I love her for that. It was hungry and it was raw and so them. I did love that the Ballad was just Agatha and Nicky together tho 🥲 Rio definitely stayed with them for at least some of those 6 or 7 years. Wondering how tf Agatha got pregnant cause I know for a fact my girlie ain't getting with a man
Also I see why Agatha kinda hates Rio, even if she loves her, but idk why Rio has such hatred for Agatha. I need answers, Marvel 🫵🤨
Overall, 6/10. I expected better, but I doesn't look like their story is over yet so I'm holding out hope.

If we don't get Agathario tonight I may actually go insane. I'm expecting a 60 minute episode where Rio and Agatha kiss at the end and then our next ep is their background. Because Billy's background was kicked into motion by a major event, like his reveal, so if they kiss, or if they almost kiss, then we should get a reveal.. right? Or maybe we find out what happened to Nicky.. either way, AGATHARIO OR DEATH!

Post finale thoughts
In short: dshjfhsiKDNQWDdaISFAdFKDN;FVh
I am a mixed bag of emotions, so I will have to revisit this later. Jac did stick her landing in the same way she did in Wandavision - offered a lot of heartbreak and lots of potential for the future. So I hope this means we get season 2!
Kathryn Hahn has all the awards in the bag
Ghost Agatha slays.
All of the Agatha's different eras outfits slay.
Rio being DEADLY SERIOUS slays.
Righteous Billy doesn't slay
Agatha is literally refusing to die. Slay! (But Rio said she hated ghosts. Great.)
Jen getting her powers back was so touching, even though I didn't care much for her character. I wish they developed her more, because he arc seemed very rushed.
Yet this whole Agathario strand just feels so unsatisfying and not at all like Jac or Kathryn or Aubrey made us believe. I would rather give up that kiss in favour of them showing us more scenes of them actually talking, fleshing out their history, rather than just a whole lot of creepy lurking. It feels like ep.1 were the most charged scenes and that's just sad.
For Agatha to kiss Rio and die, implies they could not kiss before. Meaning when Agatha was going for that kiss in ep.4, this was her actually offering herself to Rio, because she thought Rio spared him? Or in sacrifice? I'm not sure I like that
Agatha and Nicky's flashback was just one massive heartbreak. Well done to all of you who guessed that it was Nicky who created the ballad. BUT WHY DID YOU HAVE TO BE SO RIGHT. It really hit, every single line.
But what's up with that goat? That is senor scratchy right?
I don't understand why Lilia is dead. Agatha said Jen got what she was missing and that's why she got out. And Lilia got what was missing too. She accepted her powers. She realised what she was missing was a coven. She got that. So did she actually die?
So episode 1 was a lot of foreshadowing... just not the way I thought!
I am not going to say anything about Billy's character, as I fear in my current state I will do him and the writers a great disservice. I will come back to this... when I cool down. And sleep. Need some sleep.
