my promethean: the created character gets a motorbike because theyre inspired in part by the character of Jenny from the mountain goats and i wanted to give them the bike she has, and i wanted to draw lots of dynamic angles of this bike, and by chance i did find a 3d render of the model of bike so i dont have to rely on the very Staged Showroom pictures that are the majority of references of this bike. its not a perfect recreation but it's a huge help

I've been trying to study your art style, your backgrounds I mean. Can you tell me or explain in someway how you like draw your backgrounds? Like sometimes you'll have characters interacting with an object or part of the world so you only draw that object in white space. But sometimes you go the whole nine yards and draw everything.

In white space you leave it up to us the reader to understand that the character is in that area without drawing it and that's so cool to me.

How do you know when to not redraw a background? Like in the scene when Chaarose was talking to the old lady. There was hallways drawn and you drew most of the room but for the most part the only thing that we saw was the couch/chairs so we know they were in a room but the background was white and not very much detail but we understand this was her room how did you do that? You do this with a variety of other panels like when they are in Hana's house (when baby first turns humanoid) you sometimes draw the couch or the table and there are things that indicate walls but I think it's my favorite thing in the world when you do this.

Basically my question is how do you know when to do this and how do you go about doing this? Do you just decide I dont wanna draw that background again so the reader knows where the characters are? Or do you do something else?

i guess it's a consideration of what's important to communicate in that panel. is this an establishing shot/do i need to set a new scene? do i want to focus on the character and what they're saying? do i need to convey space in order to achieve a certain mood? (like the more recent pages of chaar where she's sitting in front of the sea looking very small)

the other thing is like. how have i arranged the people in the panel. if they're sitting down and i want to show more than their torso, it's going to look weird if i just draw them sitting on nothing. generally the more i show of a character, the more background i put behind them.

the OTHER other thing is.. man i got all these pages to draw 🤣🤣 i CANNOT be drawing backgrounds in every panel (nor should i, it gets too cluttered)

there's a sort of rule of thumb I've heard of having at least 1 panel of background per page, to ensure the reader remembers where they are, which i think is a decent starting point if it's something you're unsure about.

so yeah, idk how helpful this is, i may have rambled a bit but like. consider what the point is in having a background in a panel. whether that be you need to establish a location, your characters would be floating around otherwise, or it's important to evoke a certain mood. I'm sure there are other things, but that's GENERALLY what i consider.

imo the less backgrounds you draw per page.. the better lol. save yourself the time and wrist stress 🤣 but im also someone who enjoys focusing on characters more, so i am biased!!

f/o stands for fictional other, if you didn't know that already.

What is an f/o? What closeness does someone have with an f/o? The short answer is it depends on the person. Some collect them like pokemon (I don't mean this in a bad way) and just kind of do it for fun, others have very deep connections with their f/os and feel the same love you'd feel for someone in this world. f/os are most commonly romantic, but queerplatonic, platonic, familial, crushes, etc also exist! Many people consider their f/os like their partners (for romantic, that is) and some even get married to their f/os. I've seen some people talk about how they lucid dream or reality shift to actually interact with their f/os, while others just daydream or write/draw about their f/os. Many selfshippers also have s/is (self inserts) who can range from a completely fictitious character the person identifies with to literally just them but inserted in the media in question. Tear quietly hummed a melodic tune, bobbing her head back and forth while quickly scribbling in her pastel pink journal. She threw her pen down on your coffee table with a pop, and picked up a pink and blue highlighter, snapping the caps on and off as necessary. You snickered at her antics— her notes and ideas were always neatly written and color coded depending on how much she liked a verse and it's meaning, keeping tabs on what she found important or inspirational.

She looked up with wide, curious eyes that twinkled as her mouth formed a grin. "What are you laughing at?" she asked, her plump cheeks growing a shade deeper.

"Nothing," you said, laughing more. "You're just the most adorable thing I've seen in my life." Cue Tear stumbling over her words, and clicking her tongue before lightly smacking you with her journal. A cheek puffed out slightly in a pout, but she threw her weight against your side anyway, resting her head against your shoulder as she continued to jot down her thoughts. Your arm found itself wrapping around her shoulder, fingertips drawing light circles around her bicep. Her journal was, of course, in plain view, but you preferred to avert your eyes elsewhere until given permission to look at the intimate pages. You were pretty sure Tear didn't mind either way, but maintaining respect for her privacy was always in your mind, especially since she became something of a celebrity.

Tear paused and twirled her fingers within one of her pink hair tails. Her brow furrowed with focus and thought, and you couldn't help but admire the length of her raven black eyelashes as she contemplated what she had written. Then, suddenly, she shoved the journal against your chest excitedly. "Tell me what you think— and say something other than it's really good, this time!" Her fists balled up energetically as she spoke, and her eyes shone with a certain determination, portraying just how enthusiastic she was about her ideas. You grinned and straightened your posture before taking the little journal in your hands.

The side that enjoyed leisurely tea sipping in the mornings, and bubble baths in the dark. "It's amazing," you said quietly, but Tear still arched an eyebrow. "I mean, I honestly love it. I think you would pull it off perfectly."

"You don't think it's too calm? Would people like it?"

"I can't speak for the world, but I like it. I can tell it comes from the heart, and I think everyone will really get into something like that!" you replied, nudging your forehead against Tear's. She giggled, and cradled your face in her hands, planting a kiss on your nose, and each cheek, and finally your lips. A light dusting of pink spread across your cheeks and nose, and you put aside the notebook in favor of grabbing Tear's hips and nuzzling her neck. When you pulled back, her cerulean blue eyes gazed with the utmost love and appreciation for you.

"Obviously, the lyrics here will probably change a little. But I'm really excited to work on this, if not to perform in front of an audience, then to perform for you," she said, wrapping her arms around your neck. You laughed and pressed Tear's body against yours.

"I'll be your audience for as long as I live, babe."
