The word for faith in the New Testament is pistis. It carries the notion of confidence, certainty, trust, and assurance in God. The gift of faith is rooted in one’s saving faith in Christ and the trust that comes through a close relationship with the Savior. Those with this gift have a trust and confidence in God that allows them to live boldly for Him and manifest that faith in mighty ways.
The spiritual gift of faith is not to be confused with saving faith. All Christians have been given saving faith,
[8] “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, [9] not of works, lest anyone should boast.”
—Ephesians 2:8-9
but not all receive this special gift of faith.
In the Bible, the gift of faith is often accompanied by great works of faith. In Acts 3:1-10 we see this gift in action when Peter sees a lame man at the Beautiful Gate and calls on him to stand up and walk in the name of Jesus.
‭‭[1] Now Peter and John went up together to the temple at the hour of prayer, the ninth hour. [2] And a certain man lame from his mother’s womb was carried, whom they laid daily at the gate of the temple which is called Beautiful, to ask alms from those who entered the temple; [3] who, seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple, asked for alms. [4] And fixing his eyes on him, with John, Peter said, “Look at us.” [5] So he gave them his attention, expecting to receive something from them. [6] Then Peter said, “Silver and gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk.” [7] And he took him by the right hand and lifted him up, and immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength. [8] So he, leaping up, stood and walked and entered the temple with them—walking, leaping, and praising God. [9] And all the people saw him walking and praising God. [10] Then they knew that it was he who sat begging alms at the Beautiful Gate of the temple; and they were filled with wonder and amazement at what had happened to him.
—Acts 3:1-10
Jesus said even a small amount of this faith could move mountains.
‭So Jesus said to them, “Because of your unbelief; for assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you.
—Matthew 17:20
‭‭So Jesus answered and said to them, “Assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith and do not doubt, you will not only do what was done to the fig tree, but also if you say to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ it will be done.
—Matthew 21:21
“‭And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.”
—1 Corinthians 13:2, Paul the Apostle
The Holy Spirit distributes this gift to some in the church to encourage and build up the church in her confidence in God. Those with the gift of faith, trust that God is sovereign and He is good. They take Him at His Word and put the full weight of their lives in His hands. They know God listens to every good heart and are not surprised when He answers a prayer or performs a miracle.

“‭to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healings by the same Spirit,”
—1 Corinthians 12:9
[1] Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. [2] For by it the elders obtained a good testimony.
[3] By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible.
[4] By faith Abel offered to God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, through which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts; and through it he being dead still speaks.
[5] By faith Enoch was taken away so that he did not see death, “and was not found, because God had taken him”; for before he was taken he had this testimony, that he pleased God. [6] But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.
[7] By faith Noah, being divinely warned of things not yet seen, moved with godly fear, prepared an ark for the saving of his household, by which he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness which is according to faith.
[8] By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to the place which he would receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going. [9] By faith he dwelt in the land of promise as in a foreign country, dwelling in tents with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise; [10] for he waited for the city which has foundations, whose builder and maker is God.
[11] By faith Sarah herself also received strength to conceive seed, and she bore a child when she was past the age, because she judged Him faithful who had promised. [12] Therefore from one man, and him as good as dead, were born as many as the stars of the sky in multitude—innumerable as the sand which is by the seashore.
[13] These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off were assured of them, embraced them and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth.
[14] For those who say such things declare plainly that they seek a homeland. [15] And truly if they had called to mind that country from which they had come out, they would have had opportunity to return. [16] But now they desire a better, that is, a heavenly country. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for He has prepared a city for them.
[17] By faith Abraham, when he was tested, offered up Isaac, and he who had received the promises offered up his only begotten son, [18] of whom it was said, “In Isaac your seed shall be called,” [19] concluding that God was able to raise him up, even from the dead, from which he also received him in a figurative sense.
[20] By faith Isaac blessed Jacob and Esau concerning things to come.
[21] By faith Jacob, when he was dying, blessed each of the sons of Joseph, and worshiped, leaning on the top of his staff.
[22] By faith Joseph, when he was dying, made mention of the departure of the children of Israel, and gave instructions concerning his bones.
[23] By faith Moses, when he was born, was hidden three months by his parents, because they saw he was a beautiful child; and they were not afraid of the king’s command.
[24] By faith Moses, when he became of age, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter, [25] choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God than to enjoy the passing pleasures of sin, [26] esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt; for he looked to the reward.
[27] By faith he forsook Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king; for he endured as seeing Him who is invisible. [28] By faith he kept the Passover and the sprinkling of blood, lest he who destroyed the firstborn should touch them.
[29] By faith they passed through the Red Sea as by dry land, whereas the Egyptians, attempting to do so, were drowned.
[30] By faith the walls of Jericho fell down after they were encircled for seven days.
[31] By faith the harlot Rahab did not perish with those who did not believe, when she had received the spies with peace.
[32] And what more shall I say? For the time would fail me to tell of Gideon and Barak and Samson and Jephthah, also of David and Samuel and the prophets: [33] who through faith subdued kingdoms, worked righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions, [34] quenched the violence of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, out of weakness were made strong, became valiant in battle, turned to flight the armies of the aliens. [35] Women received their dead raised to life again. Others were tortured, not accepting deliverance, that they might obtain a better resurrection. [36] Still others had trial of mockings and scourgings, yes, and of chains and imprisonment. [37] They were stoned, they were sawn in two, were tempted, were slain with the sword. They wandered about in sheepskins and goatskins, being destitute, afflicted, tormented— [38] of whom the world was not worthy. They wandered in deserts and mountains, in dens and caves of the earth.
[39] And all these, having obtained a good testimony through faith, did not receive the promise, [40] God having provided something better for us, that they should not be made perfect apart from us.
—Hebrews 11:1-40

9 with gaston👀
9 -- to shut them up.
OOOOH THIS IS SO PERFECT FOR HIM!!!! OKAYOKAY- HERE WE GO!
🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹
This had been going on for almost two hours *solid* now...
-"And then I said to Lefou- "No thieving bear is stealing MY food and getting away with it!" And so then I"-
Poor Cherise, patient as she was, hadn't been able to get anything more than a nod in for over an hour. Now, she loved hearing Gaston talk, loved hearing him more than anything!.... But she had things to do today! Goats to feed, pies to bake! She couldn't do anything stuck at the village fountain listening to more of Gaston's daily triumphs, even if she was happy to hear them.
A squiggly, strained smile seems to have taken permanent residence on her round face. She hoped that he'd sense that she had somewhere to be, that way she wouldn't have to try and interrupt, but any hints she gave went right over his thick head. Darting glances towards her cottage, attempting to stand before being told, "Oh, please, Cherise, sit and let me tell you about how I bested that giant boar!" Things like that.
Now, she knew Gaston meant no harm. He simply enjoyed talking, and she was fortunate enough to be the one he liked to talk to most! She was so thankful for that.... But she could hear the goats screaming for food from across the villaige square. She was needed.... And he wouldn't shut up.
Gaston just kept on about bears, hunting, and tavern drama(he called it "disputes" to make it sound more manly and official, but it was just drama among men,) completely oblivious to gentle taps placed on his arm to get his attention.
"Gaston...?" She's too quiet, he can't hear her over the sound of his own laughter. "E-excuse me, Gaston?"
Nothing. He's still chattering away.
Cherise's cheeks go pink, her lips pursed into a line. Her ever so vast patience it nearing it's end. "Gaston?" A little louder this time, but still no luck.
It occurs to her suddenly that this is cause for drastic measures. With a determined huff and a fluff of her skirts, Cherise stands on the side of the fountain, pulls her bonnet from her head to sheild herself and him from nosey passerbys, and takes Gaston by his yellow collar.
Cherise yanks him down to her level, soft lips pressing firmly against his for only a moment before pulling away. She's never been so bold- the whole situation catches Gaston off gaurd; a feat few men have ever accomplished.
Poor Cherise is mortified.
She drops her hat to the ground, her hands flying to cover her mouth and cheeks redder than her suitor's shirt. He's silent... She's only ever seen him silent when he was hunting or brooding in the tavern. Her heart's hammering, her shoulders shaking. Is he upset? Is he angry? Oh gosh, please speak!
Gaston blinks once, then twice, and finally turns to Cherise with a grin.
"Now, Cherise... If you wanted my attention so badly, you need only say something!"
At that she deflates, her shoylders visibly relaxing as she smiles.
Silly, silly man...

Walk It Out: The Life of a Believer
The word of God brings us to salvation and shows us how we should live our new life in Jesus Christ. What I love so much about God is that He gives us choices. He presents us with “good and perfect” gifts but still gives us space to choose. Choosing to follow Christ and live His way is not always easy. Following the word of God is in direct contrast of how the world says we should be living. This places extra importance on the study and knowledge of the scriptures.
Walking out our lives in Christ is a daily constant series of making decisions. These decisions almost always bring up another question in the mind of a believer and it’s usually something like “what does God say I should do?” As we grow in our relationship with Jesus, certain things get harder to make decisions on. This happens because our flesh is fighting to stay alive. The Apostle Paul constantly refers to this fight throughout his writings in the New Testament (1 Cor. 15, Romans 8), saying that he dies daily to his flesh. Jesus even commands us to deny ourselves, take up our cross and follow Him (Luke 9).
If we are going to follow Jesus, we have to get out of the way. We have to give up our desires and submit to the will of God. I’ve learned that submission is not always fun or even what I want to do. It is a consistent acknowledgment that His ways are better than my ways and his thoughts are higher than my thoughts. True submission comes down to faith and trust.
James gives us some straight to the point instructions on how we as believers should live out our faith and trust in Jesus. Read the book of James and what it says about walking in faith. It’s not for the faint of heart. James Chapter 1 verses 19-26 really spoke to me. In Verse 19 & 20, it says that we should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to anger. The world tells us to curse out the person that cut us off on the freeway. Anger in partnership with humanity doesn’t produce the righteousness that God asks us to walk in.
Verse 21, tells us to “get rid of all moral filth and evil that is so prevalent and humbly accept the word planed in you, which can save you.” When I read this I instantly thought, “can you be more specific?” My flesh saw the attack coming. My mind then went to Paul’s writings in Romans 7, when he talks about wanting to do good and recognizing the sin that is in him making decisions. It’s like those candy commercials where something bad happens to character and then something good happens. OK, James, I got it, get rid of evil and moral filth…then he says humbly accept the word planted in you. This comforted me in knowing that study and knowledge of God’s word is so important to walking out our life as a believer.
Verse 22-25 commands us to not only listen to the word of God but also do what it says. In verse 22, he slides in the phrase “and so deceive yourselves.” He adds this because by only listening to the word we can convince ourselves that we have faith, that we are following God. God even responds in action to our faith. Look no further than the miracles Jesus was able to perform because people had faith. Remember that situation you asked God to move in and He made a way. Deceiving ourselves sometimes causes us to think that by just showing up at church for a couple of hours every week “it’s all good.” Whatever you put into your heart is going to come out. This is why David in Psalms 119 says I have hidden your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.” Following God requires action. Living by the word of God offers freedom and with doing what the word says also comes blessings.
In verse 26, he’s basically saying “Watch your mouth.” James didn’t live in 2024 where people feel like they have license to say whatever they want to you and call it “living their truth” or “that’s just who I am.” The blessing for us is that God didn’t call us believers to just be who we are, He’s called us to be what He wants us to be.
Today’s challenge is to recognize the areas in our lives where our flesh is fighting our faith. Ask God, for his grace and mercy to fight and overcome those battles. Using our battle plan, the word of God, we will win! Walking out our life as believers is going to come with it’s daily challenges but we have access to the one who has already given us the victory, his name is Jesus Christ. I pray that we all become closer to Him today and our lives bring Him the glory He is due!
Be Blessed!

THE BIBLE BOOK OF GOD
New Testament
Acts 16
Timothy Joins Paul and Silas
16 Paul came also to Derbe and to Lystra. A disciple was there, named Timothy, the son of a Jewish woman who was a believer, but his father was a Greek. 2 He was well spoken of by the brothers at Lystra and Iconium. 3 Paul wanted Timothy to accompany him, and he took him and circumcised him because of the Jews who were in those places, for they all knew that his father was a Greek. 4 As they went on their way through the cities, they delivered to them for observance the decisions that had been reached by the apostles and elders who were in Jerusalem. 5 So the churches were strengthened in the faith, and they increased in numbers daily.
The Macedonian Call
6 And they went through the region of Phrygia and Galatia, having been forbidden by the Holy Spirit to speak the word in Asia. 7 And when they had come up to Mysia, they attempted to go into Bithynia, but the Spirit of Jesus did not allow them. 8 So, passing by Mysia, they went down to Troas. 9 And a vision appeared to Paul in the night: a man of Macedonia was standing there, urging him and saying, “Come over to Macedonia and help us.” 10 And when Paul had seen the vision, immediately we sought to go on into Macedonia, concluding that God had called us to preach the gospel to them.
The Conversion of Lydia
11 So, setting sail from Troas, we made a direct voyage to Samothrace, and the following day to Neapolis, 12 and from there to Philippi, which is a leading city of the district of Macedonia and a Roman colony. We remained in this city some days. 13 And on the Sabbath day we went outside the gate to the riverside, where we supposed there was a place of prayer, and we sat down and spoke to the women who had come together. 14 One who heard us was a woman named Lydia, from the city of Thyatira, a seller of purple goods, who was a worshiper of God. The Lord opened her heart to pay attention to what was said by Paul. 15 And after she was baptized, and her household as well, she urged us, saying, “If you have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come to my house and stay.” And she prevailed upon us.
Paul and Silas in Prison
16 As we were going to the place of prayer, we were met by a slave girl who had a spirit of divination and brought her owners much gain by fortune-telling. 17 She followed Paul and us, crying out, “These men are servants of the Most High God, who proclaim to you the way of salvation.” 18 And this she kept doing for many days. Paul, having become greatly annoyed, turned and said to the spirit, “I command you in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her.” And it came out that very hour.
19 But when her owners saw that their hope of gain was gone, they seized Paul and Silas and dragged them into the marketplace before the rulers. 20 And when they had brought them to the magistrates, they said, “These men are Jews, and they are disturbing our city. 21 They advocate customs that are not lawful for us as Romans to accept or practice.” 22 The crowd joined in attacking them, and the magistrates tore the garments off them and gave orders to beat them with rods. 23 And when they had inflicted many blows upon them, they threw them into prison, ordering the jailer to keep them safely. 24 Having received this order, he put them into the inner prison and fastened their feet in the stocks.
The Philippian Jailer Converted
25 About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the prisoners were listening to them, 26 and suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken. And immediately all the doors were opened, and everyone's bonds were unfastened. 27 When the jailer woke and saw that the prison doors were open, he drew his sword and was about to kill himself, supposing that the prisoners had escaped. 28 But Paul cried with a loud voice, “Do not harm yourself, for we are all here.” 29 And the jailer[e] called for lights and rushed in, and trembling with fear he fell down before Paul and Silas. 30 Then he brought them out and said, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” 31 And they said, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household.” 32 And they spoke the word of the Lord to him and to all who were in his house. 33 And he took them the same hour of the night and washed their wounds; and he was baptized at once, he and all his family. 34 Then he brought them up into his house and set food before them. And he rejoiced along with his entire household that he had believed in God.
35 But when it was day, the magistrates sent the police, saying, “Let those men go.” 36 And the jailer reported these words to Paul, saying, “The magistrates have sent to let you go. Therefore come out now and go in peace.” 37 But Paul said to them, “They have beaten us publicly, uncondemned, men who are Roman citizens, and have thrown us into prison; and do they now throw us out secretly? No! Let them come themselves and take us out.” 38 The police reported these words to the magistrates, and they were afraid when they heard that they were Roman citizens. 39 So they came and apologized to them. And they took them out and asked them to leave the city. 40 So they went out of the prison and visited Lydia. And when they had seen the brothers, they encouraged them and departed.

March 17, 2024
March 17, 2024
Fifth Sunday of Lent
Jeremiah 31: 31-34
The Prophet shares that God is making a new covenant with the people.
Psalm 51
The Psalmist asks for forgiveness from God.
Hebrews 5: 7-9
This letter speaks of the obedience of Christ.
John 12: 20-33
Jesus is troubled and shares the kind of death he would experience.
Happy St. Patrick’s Day!
The Prophet Jeremiah writes that God will make a new covenant with the people.  “The days are coming says the Lord when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and the house of Judah (Northen and Southern Kingdoms). It will not be like the one on the tablets of stone that Moses received and the people violated.  But this agreement, this covenant “will be written within them and upon their hearts.”  These words seem more personal and deeper in meaning. Many Christians see the life and role of Jesus within this promise of a new covenant.  They turn to Jesus’ words at the last supper about a “new covenant in my blood.”  In many ways this is a more demanding covenant because of its internal nature.  God’s law is not just external actions, but this new covenant calls for a change in attitude and a change in our hearts.  In many ways that is what we hope for during our Lenten season.
For a covenant to be written within and upon our hearts calls us to something more than we may have experienced.  It seems to call us into a deeper relationship with God.  And we Christians believe that relationship has the capacity to become more profound because Jesus became one of us.  But this season of Lent which is soon to end, shows us that Jesus paid a hugh price for that relationship.
John’s Gospel shares Jesus’ use of a metaphor to explain what is lying ahead for him. “Unless the grain of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains just a grain of wheat; but if it dies, it produces much fruit.”  Jesus’ audience of ordinary peasants certainly understood this picture.  His death did produce much fruit.  But his example plays out in our daily lives.  When at times, we can put another’s needs before ours and when, we can step outside ourselves to listen and care for others, we may face a small “death” in our lives but also produce much fruit.
Our Gospel also tells us that Jesus was aware of what was coming into his life.  “I am troubled now. Yet what should I say? Father save me from this hour?   And when I am lifted up from the earth, I will draw everyone to myself.”  By the time John writes his Gospel some 60 to 70 years have passed since Jesus’ death and resurrection.  His listeners now understood what Jesus was saying.
But there are several points in the Gospel that may have raised questions for you.  “Some Greeks who had come to worship at the Passover Feast” requested something from Philip.  There was a group of Gentiles who were intrigued by Judaism and made a point of attending the Synagogue ceremonies but did not convert to Judaism.  Scholars tell us that Paul’s early ministry was to this group of people often called “God fearers.”  And, Paul ran into difficulty with his Jewish brothers and sisters who saw him as a “sheep stealer.”  In time Paul focused his attention on the conversion of Gentiles as a whole.
The second interesting point in the Gospel is the desire of these Gentiles to meet Jesus.  In their travels they undoubtedly heard about him and his message. After the request by his apostles to have these Greeks meet Jesus, Jesus turns to the message if his coming death.  We do not know if the meeting took place but the desire to know more about Jesus is very clear.
The Gospel closing with Jesus’ words, “When I am lifted up, I will draw everyone to myself.  The Greeks may not have met him directly, but they now knew that he was open to them and their lives.  May his modeling be a road map for all of us.

               1
Her child. Much longer time; the charmed touch! Until Death is dead! Together. War again, and their one!

That rain and cresses from leaf to lead? But aye she loot the sons no more than harp or song, for less?

The dishes and full cycle, when summer. And, Prince, and the silver found I a friends let it go.
               8
As we once more of death, but wants, no woman thus? In little array had many more alone.
               9
A collaboration: women foolish figure; when, lo! At which of the needle-points, and thee!
               10
To stammer whereon you could without delay with might I have to o’er- hanging boughs, from the nest.

The lady passed the cloud which settle time. And look’d down fa’ for their wine was wont to dream of men!
               13
With trump and several plot which few will come. Some hundred youth is vain to the body—I looked.
               14
Else men the huntsman here hast thou hast seene. He was not from pain; nor stirred. A field of Sir Leoline?
               15
Comes easy terms. Daily, I pluck sweet sculpture draped from heaven: but you off an hour’s perfect note.
               16
Now heaven grac’t, ah! A kindlier influence, thrown high soul, until frustration set and he while.
               17
And beast thy motions lovers—who last have its more soft abode, palace, or cash, or it may veil.
               18
Of abrupt thunder, when and here a word I have no fear! And like Adam linger’d near my heart.

Eats into the great spirit shall I call? Ah, but, fearful ewes; and when she roses on my lip.
               26
” But could I do with bowe and beg you well. She faded, like cedars round and now doth Geraldine!
               27
His iron palms tip towards the white of thy dew to splendours and what then? With like a crescent sphere.
               28
Breast this but to a single beds. No more— no more, I will teach, if this is all; she will but me.

But though all the Spartan ladies take leave the vena cava. To take vp the please me of it.

to have it 9/18/23
to think its been so long since i called you pretty. since we were younger and didn't know the dirt beneath our souls. to think we were once in that phase. i had a crush on you and you on me. we got nervous to see each other. walked together. you made sure that i walked on the outside of the sidewalk. i learned more and more about you every day. we talked for hours and days at a time and at no point did i ever want anything but you. i fell and scraped my knees on the thought of having you. kissing you and hugging you. playing with your hair. smiling and laughing with you.
we're different now. colder. i don't know how you are. what you do on a daily basis. how you feel about things. we don't talk. we have something. we hold onto a safe relation. i tell myself im over what once was. that was in the past. as if i don't stare back lightyears to see the shining potential we could have had. here i am still. have me and take me. there is nothing wrong in a practical sense. we dont hate each other. there is nothing to be mad at. still i find that when we disrobe and i'm in your arms a small tear sheds from my eye. to think i can only have you like this. i try and savor every moment of it. i squeeze you extra tight. i tell you that this is only yours. i don't lie to you. a pain fills my chest for a few seconds at a time. i take in every single part of it so i can remember. this is us. this is what we have. nothing more or less. i can't say i don't like it. i am a woman with primal desires. you are good at this. you know me in this way as i do you. when you grip my waist and make me feel small. hold my face and call me pretty. call me baby. i'm not usually a fan of dirty talk but its a way to listen to you. it's not the same, we're different now.
I wonder if you notice it in the way i grip onto you. or how i yell at you drunkly saying we should talk more. you don't see it my way. you only want me like this. i know i shouldn't say this but sometimes i wonder if you see me as a person. do you think about me? long pause. i told you. i told you when i don't usually say anything. it didn't help. we came to a mutual agreement. you explained to me. i understood. i understand. i don't think its right to say you love me but we can pretend that didn't happen. like when i say i love it when you * or i love your * im not saying the same thing. you're growing. or maybe you're just being more of yourself. you're a lot nicer to me when you're drunk. i wonder if when i kiss you all over your face and you smile if that's a sliver of feeling for me. it feels pure. i think about you too much for my own good. i dull it when we interact. you shine bright in my mind like the sun. i would say this feeling is more comparable to a tumor. i need you to get out of my mind. no matter how much time we spend apart. how much i tell myself you don't matter his much. god wants me to suffer. this is biblical. do i sacrifice myself for this. in your name and honor sir? still you hold me with care. you're gentle when it matters. you're attentive to every move i make.
is it enough?
maybe one day i'll be so sick of you that i resort to my last option. i wonder how you'd feel. you should be sorry that you're the one i love. i should die. this isn't how im supposed to be. i am better than this no? who am i to let a man make me feel like this. you don't matter this much. you are just a person. i know all of this but at the end of the day there is nothing that i can do to stop thinking of you and equally nothing i can do to make you love me. so here is a safe and logical middle ground. the deal of deals. i'm happy. you're happier. you do everything right and still i come home to my bed feeling like something is wrong. i wish you didn't matter. like john or earl or dennis or one of the million other men that wish they had me like you did. i don't think you get it.

a different way to pray (a repeat daily)
"but you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly." matt 6:6
so many out there do not have the prayer life they really want.  maybe they have good intentions, but just cannot ever feel really connected.  i well remember how i used to get antsy and view the clock often.  our flesh begins to burn the closer we draw to the holy.
the following story might give you an intro into an intimate and cherished connection with our Lord.
we all take baby steps to where ever we're going.  they may be small, but if we persist, they will get us there.  this is something we all need if we are to "endure" to the end.
-------
a man's daughter had asked the local pastor to come and pray with her father.  when the pastor arrived, he found the man lying in bed with his head propped up on two pillows and an empty chair beside his bed.  the priest assumed that the old fellow had been informed of his visit.
"i guess you were expecting me," he said.
"no, who are you?"
"i'm the new associate at your local church," the pastor replied.
"when i saw the empty chair, i figured you knew i was going to show up."
"oh yeah, the chair," said the bedridden man. "would you mind closing the door?"
puzzled, the pastor shut the door.
"i've never told anyone this, not even my daughter," said the man.
"but all of my life i have never known how to pray. at church i used to hear the pastor talk about prayer, but it always went right over my head.."
"i abandoned any attempt at prayer," the old man continued, "until one day about four years ago my best friend said to me, 'joe, prayer is just a simple matter of having a conversation with Jesus.  here's what i suggest.  sit down on a chair, place an empty chair in front of you, and in faith see Jesus on the chair.  it's not spooky because he promised, 'i'll be with you always.'  then just speak to him and listen in the same way you're doing with me right now."
"so, i tried it and i've liked it so much that i do it a couple of hours every day.  i'm careful, though.  if my daughter saw me talking to an empty chair, she'd either have a nervous breakdown or send me off to the funny farm."
the pastor was deeply moved by the story and encouraged the old guy to continue on the journey.  then he prayed with him, and returned to the church.
two nights later the daughter called to tell the pastor that her daddy had died that afternoon.
"did he seem to die in peace?" he asked.
"yes, when i left the house around two o'clock, he called me over to his bedside, told me one of his corny jokes, and kissed me on the cheek.  when i got back from the store an hour later, i found him dead.  but there was something strange, in fact, beyond strange-kinda weird.
apparently, just before daddy died, he leaned over and rested his head on a chair beside the bed."
- author unknown
-------
you know, i like stories most that were composed by unknown authors.  they seek no glory or praise for themselves.  they want it all to go to God.  it seems to me, that's as it should be.  "for by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God,  not of works, lest anyone should boast."  eph 2:7-9
there is no boasting that we have earned our way to heaven.  we are all unworthy of the great gift He has given.  any good works we might have accomplished since we came to Christ was just His working in us and through us.  that is dependent on how much we yield ourselves to Him.  even then, it is His precious love that draws us.
"[for my determined purpose is] that i may know Him [that i may progressively become more deeply and intimately acquainted with Him, perceiving and recognizing and understanding the wonders of His Person more strongly and more clearly], and that i may in that same way come to know the power outflowing from His resurrection [which it exerts over believers], and that i may so share His sufferings as to be continually transformed [in spirit into His likeness even] to His death".  phil 3:10 ampc

DAILY DEVOTIONAL FOR APRIL 14, 2023
God’s Plans for Me
By Terry J. Burns (Florida, USA)
READ EPHESIANS 2:1-10
We are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do."
EPHESIANS 2:10 (NIV)
"I had a plan for the next few hours: take a walk with my husband, eat lunch, and attend an online Bible study. The timing would be tight, but I would be able to do it all.
When my husband and I started our walk, I spotted our neighbor. I felt led to talk to her, and I got to know her on a deeper level. Then near the end of our walk, we stopped to talk with another neighbor. She told us she was experiencing a major struggle, and we promised to pray for her.
Only 30 minutes before Bible study, my sister called with exciting news. I had not yet eaten lunch and feared I would be late. But then I saw an email from the study leader asking me to offer the opening prayer, so I quickly ate my lunch and joined the meeting on time.
In the past, a day like this would have stressed me out. But since studying Ephesians 2:10 with my Bible study group, I have begun praying that God will open my eyes and heart to God’s plans for me. God often calls me to listen, share, and do good works. I strive to be willing and joyful as I fulfill God’s purpose for me." Sometimes getting everything in seems impossible. We busy up our schedule and then wonder if it all will get done. Such is the process to fulfil God's plan for yourself.
TODAY'S PRAYER
"Heavenly Father, grant us the wisdom and courage to accomplish the works you call us to do. In Jesus’ name we pray." Amen.
Ephesians 2:1-10
New International Version
Made Alive in Christ
"2 As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins, 2 in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient. 3 All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our flesh[a] and following its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature deserving of wrath. 4 But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, 5 made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved. 6 And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, 7 in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus. 8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— 9 not by works, so that no one can boast. 10 For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do." We are created, specifically to carry out the work of God. Jesus was on earth to pave that path and teach us how to be on target with that. Just know that every part of life is important; then do you. Blessings! Joe
