Synopsis: After traveling through every region with your best friend, Taeyong, it was time to settle down back in your hometown with your Pokemon for a new, relaxing journey. Member: Doyoung/Reader Word Count: 12,411 Notes: a... long ass collab project... this shit has been in the works since for fucking ever. but... it’s doNE. part 2 will come like next week... go read @taeyongtime’spart HERE, because they’re very important to each other and it’s gOOD sHIT. yes. enjoy ^^
Part 1 Part 2
Pokemon.
The greatest companions in the world, companions who always had your back and were loyal to their trainers, going through any hardships together. They were human’s lifelong partners, aiding them in whatever way they could.
The world wouldn’t be what it was without Pokemon.
Of course, there were human companions too, but, no one could truly match up to Pokemon. There was an otherworldly connection with Pokemon that humans together couldn’t recreate. It was an unbreakable bond. You traveled with Pokemon, far and wide, region through region to earn badges and train your Pokemon so you could become a champion.
However, no matter how many badges you earned or how much you trained, you could never beat one person. The one person who was always three steps ahead of you, beating you by mere margins every time. You could beat gym leaders and powerful trainers all you wanted, but there was always one you could never take down.
Lee Taeyong – your best friend, your partner in crime, and the only one who could almost measure up to the bond you had with Pokemon. Almost.
You had traveled together, fought together, trained together, and everything in between when you were younger, along with your Pokemon. While you could never beat him, it was okay because it only brought you closer and it was all in friendly competition anyway. You watched as he became champion and became one of the most renowned Pokemon trainers in the world, only making you proud to call him your best friend.
And now, after traveling each region and conquering them all together, you settled back in your home region, the Neo Isles, to begin a farm to breed and raise Pokemon. It was another journey together, but, rather than the intensity that battling brought, it was bound to be a little more calm and lighthearted.
-
“I think I want to evolve mine into Vaporeon.” The Eevee below you tilts its head in a playful manner, making a quiet noise as if to ask you what you said. You smile, rubbing its tuft of fur below its chin before looking over at your best friend, Lee Taeyong himself. He’s grooming his own Eevee, tying a black ribbon around its neck to differentiate them and he nods his head at you in agreement at your statement.
“Vaporeon suits you. It’d match your team,” he replies. You nod back, glad he agreed.
“Mmhmm. He’ll be so pretty. Prettier than any Pokemon. Right Eevee?” You ask your Eevee.
“Eve- eve!” Eevee nods and starts hopping up and down in excitement. You smile at your Eevee, glad it didn’t seem bothered by evolving. You had only gotten the cutie pie a few days ago, given to you by the breeder a couple miles away from your own farm. It had been the second time he came around, the first to check out your farm, and the second to offer you and Taeyong two Eevees hatched just recently.
He was almost as cute as the Eevee he had given you. Almost. You’re not sure anyone could match Eevee’s cuteness. You stroke one of Eevee’s ears, watching as it practically buzzes with happiness.
“I don’t know what I want yet,” Taeyong speaks up. You look at him, then down at his Eevee, seeing it cock its head in interest at Taeyong. Taeyong could easily go any way with his Eevee. While he usually only used dark and dragon types, you could totally see him with an Espeon or a Slyveon. Something that evolved with high friendship seemed like his cup of tea.
Though, if you were betting anything, he was probably going to end up with an Umbreon. It was his type after all.
“Whatever it is I’m sure Eevee will be fine with it,” you say. You pick up your Eevee and set it down on the ground before standing up, walking towards Taeyong. “Come on. We should probably go check on the eggs. Some of them are bound to hatch today.”
Taeyong nods his head, setting his own Eevee down on the ground. You watch as the two Eevees run off together, happily bounding out the backdoor. They were far too adorable those two.
You can’t help but think of the guy who had given them to you as you head to the nursery with Taeyong. You wondered if maybe you’d see him again. You hoped so. Maybe you could visit his farm too and see the kind of Pokemon he bred as well.
Just maybe.
-
A few days later, just as you wanted, the guy from the farm a few miles away comes to visit. You only know he’s there because Taeyong’s Arcanine is growling so loudly that you hear it from your bedroom upstairs. You rush down to open the door, seeing the guy, Doyoung, standing there at the mailbox waving awkwardly. You laugh and wave him up, Arcanine backing off when it sees you.
Doyoung steps towards the porch, letting out a breath he had probably been holding in since Arcanine barred its teeth at him. You notice this time, he’s brought his own Eevee, perched on top of his head, mussing up his black hair. It’s adorable, and you almost coo at how cute it is. You refrain yourself thankfully, offering a smile to him instead.
“Hey, what brings you this way again?” You ask. Doyoung reaches into his bag, pulling out three stones. You recognize them as a Water, Fire, and Thunder Stone, realizing what he was here for.
“I brought these for your Eevees. I mean- if you wanted to evolve them, that is. I just thought it would be a nice gift.”
You stare at the stones, your eyes attaching to the Water Stone. You had decided you were going to evolve your Eevee into a Vaporeon, so, you might as well take it.
“Does your friend- uh, Taeyong? Does he want one?” Doyoung interrupts. You look up at him, shaking your head at him.
“He hasn’t decided what to do with his Eevee yet. Any ideas?” You ask, gesturing Doyoung inside. He enters, and you close the door behind you. You two walk through the house together, to the back door and out into the field where the Pokemon you breed and own are.
“Flareon? Maybe it’d calm that Arcanine down…” Doyoung mumbles. You laugh, beginning to scan the field for your Eevees.
The field consists of two ponds towards the front of the house, with a lake further back by the fence. Outside of the fence were berry trees, growing all the berries you needed to feed your Pokemon. You could see said Pokemon playing about, smiling as you look over every corner of your farm.
Piplups, Squirtles, and Woopers were running around by one pond, with Poliwags and Azurill bothering the Slowpoke by the other. In the lake, your Lapras is singing to the Horsea surrounding it, your Kingdra watching her young a few feet away. Your Blastoise and Empoleon are by the lake as well, sleeping next to each other. Lapras had probably sung them to sleep, you’re sure of it. You’re not sure where your Slowking or Azumarill was, but knowing them they were probably taking a walk somewhere in the forest together.
Your eyes wander further across the land, watching the Growlithe, Poochyena, and Houndours Taeyong was raising run around, seeing who could run the fastest. Of course, it was Growlithe, the others not even coming close to beating them. His other Pokemon, his trusted team, are all standing around him by your supply shed as he tells them of their duties for the day. You notice your Eevees standing in between his Absol and Mightyena, listening just as intently as his other Pokemon.
They could not get any cuter than that.
“Come on,” you tell Doyoung. You walk over to the group surrounding Taeyong, watching as they disperse out on the field to tend to their duties. He smiles when he sees you and Doyoung and offers a polite bow of his head towards him.
“Nice to see you again,” Taeyong says. Doyoung offers his own polite head bow before holding out the stones in his hands.
“I came to give you another gift. In case you wanted to evolve your Eevee,” Doyoung says. Taeyong looks down at the stones before shaking his head.
“No thank you. I think I’m going to try for one of the other ones. The ones evolved without a stone, I mean,” he replies. Doyoung nods his head in understanding and is about to retract the stones back towards him when a streak of brown flashes in front of you, grabbing the Water Stone out of Doyoung’s hands. A Pokemon lands a few feet away from you, and you notice it’s one of the Eevees.
“Hey!” Doyoung moves towards the Eevee but it dodges, running a few more feet away and looking back at you.
Or, maybe it wasn’t an Eevee? It’s holding the water stone in its mouth, but you’re pretty sure Eevee are supposed to evolve the moment they touch a stone. This one wasn’t changing though.
“Wait a second…” You look around, seeing yours and Taeyong’s Eevees still sitting where they were, watching on at the problem unfolding. You then look to Doyoung, seeing his Eevee still on top of his head.
Okay. You know what this was. You shake your head, stepping towards Doyoung.
“Zorua, give that back. That’s not yours,” you say. The Eevee – Zorua – scoffs at you before running off towards one of the ponds, bringing the water stone with it.
“Okay, just- wait here! I’ll get it back!” You tell Doyoung. Not wanting Zorua to anger Doyoung, you rush off after it. You keep your eyes on Zorua, and almost immediately you see him hop on the top of the rocks lining the pond, knocking a Squirtle into the water. Of course it had to be extra mischievous the day someone came to visit. You glare at Zorua who is snickering at what he’s done and run faster, trying to catch up with him. Zorua doesn’t hesitate to hop away when you get close enough, rushing over to the lake. You groan and turn back to the Squritle you can now hear crying, seeing a few Piplup surrounding the poor thing.
Okay, you needed to wrap this up quickly before Blastoise woke up. Something bad would no doubt happen if she learned one of her babies was crying. You turn towards the lake again, seeing Zorua proudly showing the water stone to the Horsea. It was distracted. This was a good opportunity. Â
You get near the lake, slowing down so you could sneak up on Zorua. You take a step, and another, and another, and a few more until Zorua notices you. He looks at you, practically grinning at you in his mischievous manner before running around the lake. You watch as Zorua hops onto your Lapras’ back, up onto its head where he knows you absolutely can’t catch him.
Taeyong seriously needed to focus on training Zorua.
“Zorua, you get down from there right this second!”
Zorua snickers, spinning around in circles just to mock you. You’re fed up with it at this point. Zorua needed to give that water stone back.
“Kingdra, use Hydro Pump on the Eevee on top of Lapras’ head!” Your Kingdra does as you say, a powerful blast of water coming from its snout and going towards Zorua. Zorua easily dodges, hopping off Lapras into the water, and you watch as the Hydro Pump hits Lapras. Lapras makes a noise of annoyance and aims her own Hydro Pump back at Kingdra.
You rush the rest of the way towards the lake, standing at the edge before calling out to your Pokemon.
“Knock it off right now! No fighting! No!” Lapras turns away from Kingdra while Kingdra sinks under the water, both clearly angry at each other. This was a mess.
You turn around, ready to call Taeyong only for your eyes to catch onto a Pokemon rushing your way. You recognize it as your Eevee, no ribbon around it nor a water stone in its mouth. Eevee comes to stop in front of you, hopping up and down with a determined look on its face.
“What? You want to catch Zorua?” Eevee nods its head, and you smile. You look around the lake to see where Zorua ran off to, seeing it by the fence where Slowking and Azumarill are staring at him. He’s showing off the water stone again, Azumarill happily giving him the attention he wants. This was your chance.
“Okay, Eevee. Use Quick Attack, and then when you get close enough use Tackle. Wherever Zorua goes, you follow, and just keep using Tackle until you hit, okay?” Eevee nods, and almost immediately rushes off to where Zorua is.
You watch on as the chase unfolds. Zorua notices Eevee and immediately runs off back towards the lake. Zorua must realize it’s not fast enough to outrun Eevee though, because it ends up getting hit by Eevee’s Tackle, getting knocked into the water. The Water Stone doesn’t go with Zorua though, instead flying up into the air. You don’t have enough time to catch it, and you don’t particularly want to fish it out later, so, without thinking, you shout at Eevee.
“Eevee, catch the Water Stone!”
“Eve!” Eevee hops off the ground, into the air, just as the Water Stone comes down. Eevee catches it just as they both hit the water, and you realize your mistake when a flash of light comes from below the water’s surface. You get on your knees, hovering over the water, waiting and watching for Eevee to come back up.
Bubbles start to form at the surface right below you and a moment later, a blue head pops up from the surface. It’s not Eevee, but, it has a similar face. Instead of Eevee’s big eyes though, this Pokemon has smaller ones, and, its ears have been replaced by two fins, with a third on the top of its head. A smile forms on your face, knowing exactly what happened after Eevee hit the water.
“You evolved,” you say. Eevee – Vaporeon now – nods, smiling up at you. He really was the prettiest Pokemon.
“Vaporeon!” Vaporeon dives back into the water, coming up only to show you how happy it is swimming around in the water. It makes you happy watching it.
“Hey!” Your attention is taken away from Vaporeon and you look behind you to see Doyoung and Taeyong running your way. You watch Taeyong run past you, to the other side of the pool where you notice Zorua in his actual form pulling itself out of the water. Taeyong doesn’t even give Zorua a chance to suck up to him before he’s calling for him to return to his Pokeball.
You’re sure Zorua was going to get scolded later for that.
Your attention is put back on Doyoung when he comes to stand next to you and you look up at him, seeing him watching the lake. “I guess you won’t be bringing the stone back, huh?”
You laugh and stand up, bowing once. “I’m sorry. I’ll make it up to you.”
“It’s okay,” Doyoung says. “It was a gift anyways.”
“Yeah but- you had to sit and wait for all of that and I’m sure you’re super busy. Let me make it up to you. I have to go into town and buy some things so I can buy you lunch afterwards,” you reply. Doyoung is silent for a moment, contemplating your offer. His Eevee is staring at you, a smile on its face and it makes a sound of agreement.
You hope he agrees. You wouldn’t mind getting to know him better.
“Sorry, but, I haven’t fed any of the Pokemon this morning and I know my sister won’t do it,” Doyoung says. You stop yourself from frowning, instead nodding your head in understanding. “I should get back, actually. But, how about a raincheck on that trip into town?”
Your face brightens immediately and you nod your head at Doyoung.
“That sounds perfect.”
-
There’s a huge problem. You rush to the house, calling out Taeyong’s name, hoping maybe he can solve your super ridiculously huge problem. He had to be able to solve it. He pops his head out from the kitchen, frying pan in hand from where he had been cooking dinner. You point to the back door, frowning.
“We’re missing Pokemon,” you say. His eyes widen and you continue. “I counted them threes times but I’m still coming up short. One of the Piplup are missing and-” You pause, taking a few steps closer to him and lowering your voice. “One of the Growlithe.”
The room goes silent, Taeyong and you waiting with baited breath for Arcanine to come busting through the door. She was overprotective of her pups, so you’re both surprised and relieved when she doesn’t do anything. You keep your voices to a whisper though, in case she did end up listening in. Â
“Are you sure they aren’t there?” Taeyong asks. You nod your head. Â
“Three times. I counted three times. The other ones are in their Pokeballs so Empoleon won't notice tonight but- Â
“Arcanine sleeps with her Growlithe,” Taeyong finishes for you. Silence settles in again, only for a moment before Taeyong moves over to the oven. He sets the frying pan down and shuts off the stove, taking off his apron and hanging it on one of the dining table chairs. He turns to you after, a look of resolve on his face. Â
“Two hours. I’ll look outside, you check the house. If we can’t find them by then, I’ll have to take Arcanine out in the morning and you’ll have to keep looking. You know I can’t keep her preoccupied for long though. She hates being away from them,” Taeyong says.
You know that. The first week they had been born Arcanine wouldn’t even let Taeyong or you touch them, even though she knew you were trustworthy; not to mention they were perfectly capable of going places on their own. She was overprotective over everything, and having her own offspring wasn’t any different. Â
Knowing one was lost would only anger her, and you’re not sure if anything could really survive her wrath. Â
“Meet back here in two hours, okay? I’ll ask Absol and Mightyena to help.” You nod your head and Taeyong is about to go, but, before he can you grab his arm, pulling him back with a question burning at the back of your throat. He looks at you with concern, and you lower your eyes to the floor, mumbling out your question. Â
“You don’t think Doyoung took them, right?” Taeyong is quick to answer, reassuring you just as always. Â
“I was watching him the entire time. He had absolutely no chance to steal them,” he says. He leans in closer, and you blush at his next words. “Besides, I think he had his eyes on you the whole time.”
You push Taeyong away, shaking your head and pointing towards the door. “Shut up- go look! Go!”
He laughs at your flustered state before heading out the back door to go meet with his Pokemon. While he went to check out there, you’d look inside.
Hopefully, hopefully, you’d find them somewhere just hiding.
-
After two hours, you meet back in the kitchen with no luck. They aren’t in the house, they weren’t in the yard, they weren’t in the woods, and they weren’t anywhere down the road. Taeyong and you were sitting at the table, somber expressions on your face at the results of your search.
You don’t know what happened to them yet, but, you hoped the worst-case scenario didn’t play out. Losing baby Pokemon like that – that would be devastating.
“We’ll find them,” Taeyong says, putting a hand on top of yours. You look up at him, smiling a little. You were glad he was being the optimist here. You needed it right now.
“Yeah, I hope so,” you reply. “It’s getting late. Let’s go to bed and continue the search in the morning.”
Taeyong nods, and after saying goodnight to each other, you go your separate ways. You have no idea how Taeyong was going to deal with Arcanine, but, you wished him the best of luck.
You open the door to your bedroom, turning on the light before entering and shutting the door behind you as you walk in. Your eyes immediately catch onto the egg sitting on your nightstand, secure in its incubator just as always.
Maybe the parents of the egg felt like you did now. Hopeless and unbelieving that the thing that has been lost will be found.
You walk over to your bed, sitting down before grabbing the incubator, setting it in between your legs.
You got the egg a while ago, when you and Taeyong were traveling back home to the Neo Isles. You had been sailing back through the ocean on the back of your Lapras when the egg had floated next to you. You had stopped and picked it up, both you and Taeyong curious over the unhatched creature. It wasn’t an egg either of you had seen before, and there was a crack at the top where it looked like someone had tried to get in. You wanted to take it to the nearest Pokemon Center, but, it wasn’t yours, so you tried your best to find the owner or the parents on the nearest island.
There was no luck in the end, which only meant it was yours from then on. After that, you did take it to the Pokemon Center, only for Nurse Joy to tell you that the chances of the egg hatching seemed slim. There was such a faint heartbeat, and the warmth of the egg was barely there.
With that, you took it home in an egg incubator, to the farm you and Taeyong were now calling home.
That was months ago. The egg still didn’t seem like it was close to hatching, even after you had let both Arcanine and Empoleon take after the egg when they had their own eggs. They were supposed to hatch when interacting with other Pokemon, and yet, this one still hadn’t.
You sigh, holding the container close and putting your head on the top. You didn’t want to think of the negatives when it came to this egg. You had seen so many hatch, and watching every time was a such a wonderful experience, almost like a miracle.
This one was bound to be a miracle too. You know it was.
You pull away, smiling at the egg. If you were going to think positively about this egg, then you were going to think positively about finding Growlithe and Piplup too.
You were going to find them. You knew you were.
-
The next morning is bad. Empoleon is the first to figure out that there’s a problem, nearly destroying an entire storage shed in her rage. It takes you and Blastoise to get her to calm down, returning Empoleon to her Pokeball while she’s weak and before she can do anymore damage. The peace doesn’t last long though, because Arcanine hears the commotion and comes to the backyard to see what the problem is.
When only two Growlithe come rushing to her, she catches on quick, figuring out that her other little one was clearly not on the farm anymore. She’s standing in front of you in a second, snarling at you, wondering where her last Growlithe was.
You tell her you don’t know, and she ends up losing it. Arcanine’s Outrage hits all the Pokemon awake, including her Growlithe and some of the other baby Pokemon. The Tauros and the Miltank on the other side of the fence get hit, and if it weren’t for Blastoise using Hydro Pump to counteract the move, you would’ve been hit too.
You didn’t want to hurt Arcanine, but, as it keeps using Outrage, you have no choice. You get Slowking, Azumarill, and Blastoise to all attack it, Slowking confusing it far before Outrage did, Azumarill and Blastoise then hitting it with Hydro Pump, effectively knocking Arcanine out in one fell swoop.
Taeyong rushes out in time to return her to her Pokeball, but damage has already been done. There’s Pokemon passed out in the grass, others in pain from the strength of the attack, and some of the baby Pokemon that didn’t get hit look absolutely terrified.
You know for a fact you don’t have enough potions to heal the Pokemon, so after telling Slowking to use Heal Pulse on the hurt Pokemon to make them feel a little better, you tell Taeyong you’ll head into town to get more supplies.
“I’ll come with you,” he says.
“Shouldn’t someone stay to watch the Pokemon?” You ask. Taeyong shakes his head.
“It’ll be fine as long as Empoleon and Arcanine aren’t here,” he says, handing over Arcanine’s Pokeball to you. “Take her to the Pokemon Center for me. There’s something I need to check on in town. Is that okay?”
You nod your head but look down at the two Pokeballs in your hands. “What if they come out?” You ask. Â
“They won’t. Besides, there will be less Pokemon hurt in town then here if they do. It’ll be okay.”
It doesn’t really put you at ease, but, it was better than the Pokemon getting hurt at your farm. “Okay. Yeah. It’ll be okay.”
And with that, you and Taeyong walk to the house to get your things. You put Arcanine and Empoleon safely into your bag along with some money and then wait for Taeyong to gather his things. He comes outside with his backpack, his Eevee and Mightyena at his side, smiling at you to signal he was ready. Â You smile back and together, with Blastoise behind you and one of her Squirtles at your feet, you head out. Â
The walk is to town is slow, Taeyong walking next to you with Mightyena in between, Blastoise walking at a leisurely pace while Squirtle and Eevee keep exploring and looking at everything you pass. If you were going for the slowest time to get to town award, you would certainly get it. It wouldn’t have been a problem any other day, but you did have hurt and fainted Pokemon at the farm. You really needed to speed this up.
“Blastoise, could we maybe walk a little faster? The Pokemon at the farm can’t wait forever you know,” you say. Blastoise looks down at you, tilting her head in fake confusion. You knew better than to believe her fake ignorance.
“Toise?”
“…Don’t you play stupid with me,” you tell Blastoise. “I know all your tricks. You’re just as slick as you were when you were a Squirtle.”
At the mention of its name, Squirtle comes bounding over to you, jumping up and down in excitement with Eevee in tow. They probably thought you were going to give out snacks or something, but you didn’t have anything on you.
“Oh, no, I wasn’t calling for you Squirtle I was just… um…” You look to Taeyong who only snorts at you, continuing to walk. Mightyena and Eevee follow after him, and you’re left with Squirtle. Squirtle, who, in the span of ten seconds, gets progressively less happy and moves into crybaby territory, the tears coming on as it looks up at you, waiting for its treat. You really didn’t have anything, but, this Squirtle wasn’t going to stop crying until it got what it wanted.
A thought quickly comes to you and you start running in place, looking down at Squirtle. “If we get to town super quick, then I can give you all the snacks you want! First one to town gets a snack! Does that sound good?”
Squirtle’s tears stop immediately and a smile finds itself on its face, the jumpiness from just moments before back again. “Squirtle, Squirtle!”
Squirtles were so easy to please, you swear.
“Okay, last one there gets no snacks!” Squirtle is off in an instant, and, you look back at Blastoise, a look on her face that said “I’m going to beat you.” You shake your head before looking back in front of you and in a split second, you’re sprinting off, leaving Blastoise in your dust, even passing by Taeyong and his Pokemon.
Or, so you’d like to think.
The thing about Blastoise – and this has been a thing since she was a Squirtle – is that she’ll usually use a water move to get places faster than you could. When she was a Squirtle, it was a mixture of Water Gun and Rapid Spin, shooting the water behind her while she was tucked away in her shell so it could blast past you.
As a Blastoise, it was Hydro Pump and Rapid Spin, the power of the Hydro Pump practically sending Blastoise, tucked away in its shell, right past you at the speed of light.
It was no different this time, Blastoise zooming past you and only leaving a stream of water in its wake. Your Blastoise was so competitive when it wanted to be, especially with you. What other Pokemon wouldn’t learn a new move to replace a weak move such as Rapid Spin only so it could beat you in races?
You’re pretty sure Blastoise was the only one.
You end up stopping your run short, instead moving your feet in a power walk to the town because at this point, it didn’t really matter. You weren’t going to get back to the farm any time soon, nor were you going to win the race between Blastoise and Squirtle either. You might as well save your energy for more important things.
You make it to town eventually, Blastoise and Squirtle waiting at the entrance for you with triumphant looks on their faces.
Like mother like child.
“Yeah, yeah, I owe you snacks…” You move to pick up Squirtle, setting it behind your shoulders as you walk past Blastoise. “Let’s go get potions first and then we’ll get you all the snacks you want, how does that sound?”
“Squirt Squirtle!”
You head to the Pokemon Center in town, making Blastoise sit outside while you went into buy things. You weren’t even going to bother wondering where Taeyong was, considering you were going to split off anyways. This was your focus now.
Nurse Joy is sitting by the counter and she greets you once you walk in. On the other Islands and in other regions, usually there was a PokeMart in the town or city you could go to, but the one in town didn’t sell the potions you wanted. You needed stronger potions, and only Nurse Joy had those.
“What can I do for you?” She asks.
“I need, hm, twenty Super Potions, and ten Hyper Potions?” Nurse Joy’s eyes widen at your request, and you laugh a little awkwardly. “There was an accident at the farm but it’s okay. A few potions are bound to make everyone feel better. Oh! Speaking of which…”
You pull out the two Pokeballs from your bag that contained Arcanine and Empoleon, setting them on the counter. “Can you keep these two overnight? They got hurt the worst so…”
Nurse Joy nods, smiling. “I’ll have them ready for you tomorrow morning. Chansey, bring some potions for Y/N, will you?”
“Chansey!” Nurse Joy’s Chansey comes rushing out only moments later with a plastic bag in hand, full of the potions you asked for. She sets it on the counter for you and you hand over the money needed, smiling at the Chansey. You’re about to grab the bag off the table when you notice the little Happiny behind Chansey, a little nurse hat on its head just like Chansey had.
“Oh my- what a cutie! Is that your Happiny Nurse Joy?” Nurse Joy looks behind her, nodding her head when she sees the little one.
“Oh, yes! Doyoung breeds them for all the Pokemon Centers on the Isles and this one just recently came to us. She’s very eager to help out here,” Nurse Joy says. The mention of Doyoung puts a softer smile on your face, thinking of how the next time you saw him, you’d probably have a date together. You wave at the little Happiny, its name really proceeding itself.
“Thank you for helping me,” you tell it. Happiny jumps up and down in excitement at your praise, and finally, you grab the bag of potions off the counter. You thank Nurse Joy and Chansey as well before taking your leave.
You step outside with Squirtle and the bag of potions, only to see that Blastoise isn’t where you left her when you went in the Pokemon Center. It makes your mood turn sour immediately. You left her for five minutes; where could she have gotten off to in such a short amount of time?
“Okay, okay! Hey, no need to raise your cannons at me, okay? I was just- I’m only trying to get into the Pokemon Center! Hey!”
You look to your right down the road to see where the yelling was coming from, only to see a head of black hair with an Eevee hanging off of said head, your Blastoise hovering over the person like they had done something to her.
“Blastoise!” You quickly rush over to the scene, getting between Blastoise and her victim. Blastoise backs off when she sees you, stepping away with a scoff towards Doyoung. You roll your eyes before turning to Doyoung, letting out a hand to him.
“I’m sorry she scared you. She didn’t hurt you, right?” Doyoung shakes his head, grabbing your hand and allowing you to help him up. He brushes himself off before taking a step back, a look of irritation written all over his face.
“Does she usually attack other people?” He asks, his tone making you wince. He wasn’t happy. You shake your head, putting your hands up in defense.
“She’s just,” you look at Blastoise, sighing. You weren’t very good at lying about this. “Yeah, okay, she does. She’s been doing that since she was a Squirtle.”
You don’t know why Blastoise was like this, but ever since you got her she always seemed to attack random trainers or try to scare them off. It was always boys and no one else. She even tried to do it with Taeyong, but, it’s not like anyone could scare him off. You were best friends for life. Eventually she warmed up to him, but every other boy was the same.
It seemed Doyoung was no different.
“Seems like an attitude problem,” Doyoung grumbles. You bow your head a little in apology, not wanting Doyoung on your bad side.
“I’m sorry. I’ll make it up to you,” you say. Doyoung stares at you for a moment, seeming to give up when a small smile finds its way on his face.
“I guess I’ll cash in that raincheck now,” Doyoung says. You grin at him, sticking your finger out to point towards your destination.
“I have to treat my Pokemon so let’s go get some lunch!” You say, your happiness from earlier in the Pokemon Center already coming back to you.
“Oh, yes. Great idea. I have to stop in the Pokemon Center first, but I’ll meet you there. That sound good?” You nod your head and part ways briefly with Doyoung, walking towards the pizza shop a few buildings down while he went into the Pokemon Center.
Blastoise follows you, but she clearly doesn’t look too happy about you and Doyoung eating together. You stop outside the pizza shop, looking at her as she comes to stand in front of you.
“What’s up? Why do you look so grumpy?” You ask. Blastoise looks at you, tilting her head as if she doesn’t know what you’re talking about. Â
“Toise?”
“You’re playing stupid again. You always do this,” you say. Blastoise continues to play dumb, and you roll your eyes before putting your focus on Squirtle. You take it off your shoulders, holding it up in the air as it makes a noise of happiness.
“You’re not going to play stupid like your mom, will you?” You ask. “You’re so much cooler than your mom, aren’t you?”
“Squirtle! Squirt Squirtle!” Squirtle is grinning at you and gets even happier as you toss it up into the air, catching it as it comes down.
“Yeah, you know what’s up. You’re going to be such a good starter Pokemon for someone,” you pause, glancing at Blastoise. “Unlike a certain other Pokemon…”
Blastoise seems to get upset by this because all her limbs retreat back into her shell immediately and she hits the ground, belly pressed against the dirt. You sigh, setting Squirtle down as it rushes over to check on why Blastoise suddenly retreated.
You didn’t mean to be mean, really. This was just par for the course with you and Blastoise, even when it was a Squirtle, and even more so as a Wartortle.
Blastoise was your first Pokemon, given to you as a Squirtle by the Pokemon Professor of the Isles. She and you were as close as they came, you barely even keeping her in her Pokeball while you traveled together. You were best friends, rivals, and partners, battling others and each other from time to time, just enjoying the time you spent together.
But even if Blastoise was your first Pokemon and you were practically inseparable, there were always problems. One of them being she hated any boy who came near you. You had other people travel with you besides Taeyong, and every boy she would turn her nose up at. It made it hard to travel with other people that weren’t girls, which, wasn’t a problem, but boys were always nice too. Â
The second problem was the whole competitive streak you had between you two. Usually it wasn’t bad, but whenever Blastoise lost, it became an entire drama. She’d cry, she’d ignore food and commands, and one time she even hit you with her Water Gun. It became worse when she evolved into Wartortle, Wartortle injuring you on more occasions than one when you competed with each other, and the episodes after losing becoming longer and more unbearable.
The third problem was whenever you ended up criticizing her for things she did. You remember questioning why she didn’t learn a stronger move that was better than Rapid Spin, and she curled up in her shell for nearly a week just to ignore you. And, just now, she did it again when you praised Squirtle.
Blastoise was a special starter, that was for sure. She was your temperamental, competitive starter, and, even with the problems, she was still your favorite above all your other Pokemon.
You sigh again, bending down and patting Blastoise’s shell to get her attention. You didn’t want her to be upset, especially if she was about to eat. You wanted to let her know that just as always, even if it wasn’t that way for her, it was just fun and games between you two.
“You know, you can’t eat in your shell…” Blastoise doesn’t respond and you pat her shell again. “You won the race, didn’t you? That means you can eat all you waaannttt…”
Blastoise’s head pops out at your words, and you smile down at her. “You know I was just kidding, right? You’re the best starter I could ever ask for.”
“Toise?”
“Yep. The best. Seriously.” Blastoise comes out of her shell completely at your words, standing back up on two feet and smiling at you.
“Blastoise!”
“Hehehe. That’s my girl,” you say.
Your moment with Blastoise is interrupted when you hear your name being called, both of you turning around to see whoever it was. Doyoung is running towards you, Eevee on his head just as always and a new Pokemon following behind him. He comes to stand in front of you, a big, gummy smile on his face as he smiles down at you, and you get so distracted by his smile you don’t even know what he was saying.
How could someone’s smile be so pretty?
“Y/N?” You shake out of your trance, smiling back at him.
“Hm?”
“I asked if you were ready to go in,” he repeats.
You nod your head, gesturing for him to go first. He doesn’t listen though, opening the door for you and motioning for you to enter. Of course he was a gentlemen too.
You turn to Blastoise, smiling at her as you walk backwards into the shop. “We’ll be right out, okay? I’ll get you your favorite. Come on, Squirtle.”
Squirtle rushes towards you as you enter the pizza shop, Doyoung entering cautiously with his two Pokemon as well. Once he’s in and out of Blastoise’s sight, you two move to stand in line, both of you looking at the menu while you wait.
“That’s a Bunnelby, right?” You ask when you find what you want to get.
“Mmhmm. He’s usually the one to help me out at the farm more than anyone else,” Doyoung says. You look down at his Bunnelby who is looking back up at you with curious eyes. “We were out getting some things this morning so he’s been helping me decide on stuff.”
“Ahh, I see I see…”
Your conversation dies off and you’re quiet as you get to the counter. You order the Pokemon specific pizza for the Pokemon, two of them at Squirtle’s request, and order a pizza for Doyoung and yourself after deciding what you want, paying the amount necessary before stepping away from the counter. Doyoung and you wait in even more silence, no conversation really coming easy between you two.
There was so much to talk about especially since you worked the exact same job, but, nothing will come out of your mouth. Instead you put your focus on Squirtle, bending down to play patty-cake with it.
“Bunnel…” Your eyes catch onto Bunnelby, one of his ears nudging at Doyoung’s arm. Doyoung grumbles something to him under his breath. You look up to see Eevee nudging Doyoung too, Eevee’s paw hitting his forehead multiple times. Doyoung sees you looking and immediately turns away from you.
You’re not sure what that was all about, but you put your attention back on Squirtle, continuing your game of patty-cake.
It doesn’t last long because only moments later Bunnelby is nudging you with one of his ears, taking your attention away from your game. You look up at him, watching as his ear points to you, then at Doyoung. You tilt your head in confusion, not sure what he’s trying to say.
“Bunnel- Bunnelby!” Bunnelby points to you again, smiles, then points at Doyoung again. “Bunnelby.”
You still have absolutely no idea what Bunnelby was trying to say, but, what you think he’s trying to get across is that you should be interacting with Doyoung. Maybe. It was worth a shot to try.
You pick up Squirtle and think about what you’re going to say, going over it under your breath a few times before nudging Doyoung in the shoulder. He turns to look at you and you smile.
“So, why were you stopping at the Pokemon Center?” You ask. Doyoung is silent for a moment until both Bunnelby and Eevee hit him, making him open his mouth to talk.
“Will you two stop- Jeez,” Doyoung’s shakes his head, the frown on his face turning into a soft smile. “I was checking on the Happiny I gave to Nurse Joy. Did you see it while you were in there?”
“Oh, yeah! It was so cute. You raise them, yeah?” Doyoung nods, looking proud of himself when he starts talking.
“I raise all the Happiny that go to Pokemon Centers in every region. All the ones that evolve into Chansey and Blissey.”
“Wow, seriously?” Doyoung nods again. “That’s pretty awesome. You must raise a lot of important Pokemon, yeah?” Doyoung nods once more and then he’s suddenly rolling his eyes, his expression turning sour. Â
“Unlike my sister. She raises whatever she wants…”
“Not one to follow in your footsteps, huh?” You ask. Doyoung makes a noise of agreement, crossing his arms as he props himself against the wall.
“And she’s pretty lazy too…” You laugh, knowing all too well what he was talking about.
“I know what you mean. Taeyong barely wants to do anything except play with the baby Pokemon or sleep. I tell him to go into town and somehow he just convinces me to go instead. I guess he did all his hard work when we were younger.”
Doyoung rolls his eyes. “Sounds like neither of them know what a job is. Or, you know, how to properly do it.”
“I guess not. But, that’s why we have Pokemon, you know? They help out a lot more than those two,” you say. Doyoung nods his head in agreement.
“If I could replace my sister with like, twenty Bunnelby, I would. They could do more work in an hour than she could in an entire day!”
You laugh at Doyoung’s statement. The way he sounded seemed like he was being completely honest, probably annoyed with how lazy his sister could be. You’re sure he loved his sister a lot, but, some things were bound to annoy him. It’s cute, and only makes you laugh more.
“I started the farm but she was the one who followed me to help out! She should put in the work too!” You nod your head, putting a hand out to grab Doyoung’s shoulder. You squeeze it in comfort, giggling still.
“You know it’s never going to happen,” you say. Doyoung grumbles, crossing his arms.
“Yeah, I know.”
Your name is called out then to let you know the pizza was done, and you step up to the counter again. You take the boxes from the worker and thank them, turning back towards Doyoung when you’re done. He leads you out of the shop, walking quickly past Blastoise and to the picnic tables across the road. You greet Blastoise, walking with her to the picnic tables.
Once you’re there, you set your box of pizza down and then hand over the other boxes to Blastoise. Blastoise happily takes it and walks a little ways away, gesturing the other Pokemon to come and share. Eevee hops off of Doyoung’s head and over to Blastoise, Bunnelby following suit.
“Oh- wait.” Doyoung pulls out a Pokeball from his bag, pressing the button on it. Out comes a pink and cream-colored feline, one that has you letting out a squeal almost immediately from how adorable it is.
“A Skitty! How cute!” You coo at the Skitty as it yawns. It’s so adorable, you really don’t know what to do with yourself. Water Pokemon might be your go-to Pokemon, but if you could have a team of all cute Pokemon, you would.
“Is it yours?” You ask. Doyoung looks up at you, eyes wide before he’s shaking his head and his hands.
“No! No, of course not. I don’t- pfft. Why would I raise something so… cute?” Doyoung pauses to pick up the Skitty, moving it over to the other Pokemon who have started to eat. Eevee and Bunnelby welcome it into the circle, even going as far as sharing food with it. You snort, looking to Doyoung.
“My sister breeds them,” he says quickly. “You know… Breeds whatever she wants…”
You don’t believe him for a second.
“Mmhmm. Sure she does,” you say. Doyoung doesn’t even try and argue, instead opening the box of pizza and promptly shoving half a piece in his mouth. He grumbles something as he chews, and you just laugh more, picking up your own slice.
You’re pretty sure Doyoung was cuter than his Skitty.
“So…” Doyoung speaks up two slices of pizza later. “How long have you and Taeyong known each other?”
You don’t even have to think about the answer to his question. “Since we were seven. We grew up here and I’m sure you’ve noticed this place isn’t that big so we were bound to become friends.”
“Wow, you grew up here?” You nod your head.
“But we left when we turned twelve. We traveled together and beat the gyms here and challenged the Elite Four. And then we did it for every other region too. I don’t know if you know this but, Taeyong is kind of a legend.”
“…he is? I hadn’t noticed,” Doyoung says, looking unamused. You smile, feeling proud to talk about your best friend and his achievements.
“He was the Pokemon Champ of every region for a long time. No one could beat him.” Doyoung’s eyes widen and he drops the third slice of pizza he had just picked up, shocked from your words.
“He was- you’re joking, right?”
“No, why would I joke? Haven’t you seen the posters in town? Even though he’s been beat by now in three different regions, everyone here still holds him in really high regard. I told you he’s a legend.”
Doyoung stares at his slice of pizza he’s once again picked up, watching it as if it contained all the answers in the world. You happily pick up another piece of pizza as well, taking a bite as you watch Doyoung. You always liked telling people that Taeyong was the champion because they always had the same reactions. It was entertaining every time.
“…he doesn’t seem like a Pokemon Champion…” Doyoung mumbles. He looks up at you, frowning. “When I was at your farm- he seemed so closed off and like he barely wanted to hold a conversation with me.”
You swallow the bite of pizza in your mouth, nodding your head in agreement. “Mmhmm. He’s really shy. He’s way more comfortable around Pokemon than people. Sometimes even with me he’s shy and we’ve been best friends for ages. But man… If you see him battle, you’d understand why he was champ. Even I can’t beat him.”
Doyoung’s eyes widen again, and he looks confused now. “What? You can’t beat him?” He glances over to the grass next to the picnic table and you follow his line of sight, knowing he was looking at your Blastoise.
“You’d be surprised at how many weaknesses my Pokemon have. Plus, he always cheated and made sure his Pokemon always knew an Electric attack,” you say. It wasn’t completely false, because Taeyong did do that, but, you know he also always trained his Pokemon when you were sleeping or when you went your separate ways for a few hours.
He was just always a few steps ahead of you.
“You guys are best friends and rivals then, huh?” Doyoung asks. You make a noise of affirmation, and you fall into another silence. You don’t let it last long though, quickly finishing your pizza before leaning forward with a smile on your face.
“Enough about me and Taeyong though. What about you? I know you’re not from around here, so, what’s your story Doyoung?”
Doyoung chews at the piece of pizza in his mouth thoughtfully. You wait patiently, looking over his features as you wait. He’s nothing like Taeyong really. Taeyong is all sharp features but Doyoung is softer. Everything about him is softer. The look on his face, his eyes, even his pretty black hair. You wouldn’t mind running your fingers through it.
He was just pretty and totally your type.
After traveling with Taeyong for so long, you hadn’t even bothered to focus on anything but battling and catching Pokemon to build up your team. You especially weren’t focusing on cute boys or anything of the like.
Settling on the farm recently and sitting here with Doyoung now was definitely shifting your focus.
“My sister and I grew up in Hoenn. Actually, our dad was the gym leader in Petalburg and we were supposed to be his successors, you know? But, neither of us really liked battling. I mean, I loved breeding- I remember watching one of our Neighbor’s Pokemon hatching and from then on, I knew what I wanted to do. So, I left and came here to start the farm and my sister followed. Where we are now, it’s… way better than back home.”
Doyoung looks up at you, shaking his head. “I doubt you’d understand since you and Taeyong traveled so much and battled so much.”
“Yeah, you’re right. I totally don’t understand,” you say. Doyoung frowns, but you just keep smiling. “Buuuuuttt I understand the appeal of breeding Pokemon and watching them hatch and grow up- seriously. It’s amazing. Taeyong’s Zorua – even if it’s a total troublemaker – watching it hatch was what made me want to breed Pokemon. Taeyong is just mostly there so he can play around with the babies.
“Like I said earlier, he’s just lazy.”
“My sister and he would be a perfect match, I’m sure,” Doyoung jokes. There’s this ridiculously soft smile on his face that makes your heart flutter, but you try to shut that fluttering down by focusing on his joke. You laugh a little, about to make your own joke before remembering a conversation you had with Taeyong. He had asked you when you hung out with Doyoung next to inquire things about his sister; likes, dislikes, things she liked to do, places she enjoyed being, and other things of the like. You hadn’t said anything, not wanting to tease him and for him to shut himself out or something but, you were his best friend.
You knew why he was asking those things.
“…speaking of your sister…”
Sometime in the middle of your talk about Doyoung’s sister, your Pokegear goes off. You take it out of your bag and open it up, excusing yourself to answer Taeyong’s call.
“Y/N, hey!”
“Hey, what’s up?” You ask, looking back at Doyoung. He looks at you curiously, and you just smile back at him. “I got the potions so whenever you’re ready to head back we can.”
“That’s perfect. We can head back before going to get Piplup and Growlithe,” Taeyong says. You look down at your Pokegear in confusion.
“Piplup and Growlithe?”
“Yeah. I know where they are,” he continues. “Meet me at the entrance of town and we’ll go get them.”
Taeyong hangs up then, and you quickly store away your Pokegear back into your bag before walking back towards the picnic tables. Doyoung looks up at you, raising his eyebrow in questioning.
“Uh, Taeyong, he- We had some missing Pokemon but apparently Taeyong found them?” You tell him. Doyoung’s eyes widen.
“A Piplup and a Growlithe?” You nod your head, your own eyes widening. “Oh my god- of course. I’m so dumb. They wandered onto our farm and stayed the night yesterday. I didn’t even think about asking you when you… literally breed Piplup and Growlithe...”
You laugh, shaking your head. “It’s okay. I’m just glad they’re alright.”
“I should’ve asked you-
“Doyoung,” you put a hand on his shoulder, still smiling. “It’s okay. I’m glad you were the one to find them.”
“Yeah… Better than someone bad finding them…” You nod your head and then gesture towards the entrance of town.
“Walk me to the entrance, will you? Unless you have something else to do?” You ask. Doyoung opens his mouth, probably about to agree before his eyes settle on the Skitty still eating with your Pokemon. You let out a noise of understanding.
“It’s okay. I can walk myself. I know this town like the back of my hand,” you say. Doyoung turns to you, shaking his head.
“Wait here, okay? I’ll just go deliver the Skitty and we can walk to the entrance together,” he says. You take a seat at the picnic table and nod at him.
“I’ll wait here then.”
-
After Doyoung gets back from delivering the Skitty, you and he and your Pokemon walk to the entrance of town to meet up with Taeyong. Surprisingly, a girl is with him, one you haven’t ever seen before. Doyoung apparently knows her though, introducing her to you as his sister when she doesn’t say anything. You had to take the initiative then if she wasn’t.
“Hi, I’m Y/N,” you say, sticking your hand out to her to introduce yourself further. You probably needed to be in her good graces anyways if you were going to be friends with Doyoung. She stares down at your outstretched hand for a short moment before looking up at you, nodding once and then turning to Doyoung. She begins to talk to him in hushed whispers about something instead.
Immediately, your mood drops.
How could she not even shake your hand? What kind of manners were those?
You turn to Taeyong, clinging to him quickly because you needed comfort from your best friend. He laughs a little, wrapping an arm around your shoulders as you begin to walk with each other. You’re sure he had no idea why you were clinging, but he probably didn’t mind much. He liked being touchy with people, especially you.
“We have to heal some Pokemon at our farm, so Mightyena will lead the way if you don’t mind tagging along,” Taeyong pipes up when the siblings seem like they’re ready to take off. They both turn to you and Taeyong, Doyoung’s sister looking ready to protest before Doyoung agrees for the both of them.
She pouts almost immediately, making you giggle a little bit. Maybe she wasn’t rude, per se, just a little shy. It was kind of cute.
You take off then on your journey back to the farm. Mightyena leads your little group at the very front, with you and Taeyong immediately behind it. You look behind you to see where everyone else is, making sure they’re all there. Doyoung and his sister are behind you, an Abra floating next to the latter while Squirtle is at her feet, walking happily as ever. Your Blastoise is in the far back, Doyoung’s Bunnelby and his Eevee walking with her.
You notice you haven’t seen Taeyong’s Eevee, so you look around quickly, only to find him walking next to Taeyong’s feet. Another Eevee is next to his, and since you know it wasn’t Doyoung’s or yours, you can only assume it was the sister’s.
It was absolutely adorable seeing the two Eevee walk next to each other, super close and practically rubbing their heads as they walked.
“Taeyong, I think your Eevee and hers are like… in love.” Taeyong looks down at them, laughing a little when he sees them close and cuddly. He looks back at you, squeezing you closer.
“Maybe they are in love,” he says. He leans in a little closer to whisper to you, probably so the siblings wouldn’t hear. “Maybe if they are they’ll want to see each other all the time and I’ll get to see her.”
Taeyong glances behind you then, with you following his line of sight to Doyoung’s sister. You can totally see why he might have a crush on her. She was adorable, and even more so when she suddenly flushes upon noticing you staring and quickly moves to hide behind Doyoung. You both look forward once more, laughing at how cute she was.
“You should ask her out,” you tell him. Taeyong shrugs in response, but from the corner of your eye you can see the smile on his face.
You’re sure you’d probably be seeing more of Doyoung’s sister.
-
Soon enough, you arrive to your farm, Taeyong’s Absol and Houndoom greeting you at the front. When Arcanine wasn’t guarding the place, they were on duty. Mightyena runs up to them when you’re through the gate, greeting them happily before rushing off to the backyard. You and Taeyong lead the way for everyone else, entering the backyard and garnering the attention of all the Pokemon who have been waiting for you.
“Is it possible for you guys to help?” You ask, turning to the siblings. Once again, Doyoung’s sister opens her mouth to protest, but Doyoung talks before she can.
“Sure. What do you need?” He asks. You open up the bag of Potions you got, pushing them forward towards them.
“Take a few potions and any Pokemon hurt just help them out. They shouldn’t be too bad because I had my Slowking help but even so. Is that okay?” Doyoung nods his head and pulls his sister forward to you. He reaches inside the bag and grabs a few potions, handing them over to his sister before shoving her off. He then grabs his own and walks away, leaving you and Taeyong.
“You should go help her out,” you say to him, pointing to the girl who did not look like she wanted to heal anyone. You’re sure she had gone past her limit of interaction if the look on her face was anything to go by.
“Got it,” Taeyong replies, taking a few potions and heading in her direction. You don’t even bother to watch, instead quickly heading over to one of the sheds. You open it up, placing the bag of potions inside before taking two out, closing the door, and heading for your Pokemon.
You immediately move over to the Piplup who are laying on the ground, weak and tired from the attack they received this morning. You only have to spray them a few times with the Super Potion in your hand for them to spring back to life, hopping up and down in excitement at being healthy again. You have them get checked over by your Slowking before they do anything else, moving onto the Azurill that are passed out on the ground. Your Azumarill is sitting next to them with a frown, the two DItto you owned looking over the babies as well with concerned faces.
“Don’t you worry guys,” you say, beginning to spray one of the Azurill’s injuries. “They’re going to be just fine after a few spritz of this stuff.”
Just as you said, the Azurill you had been working on opens its eyes and you help it sit up onto its feet. It sways a little, but after a moment hops up onto its tail, bouncing over to Azumarill with a smile on its face.
“Azurill!” Azumarill smiles back and checks over its young while you continue on with the other little ones. Even though the potions were going to heal the Pokemon, it would be a good idea to watch them for the rest of the day as well. You didn’t want anything to happen overnight, especially with the baby Pokemon.
Once you finish the next Azurill, you look around, trying to spot Taeyong so you could talk to him. Unfortunately, you spot him smiling and talking with Doyoung’s sister by the lake, clearly distracted with watching her heal a Slowpoke.
“Y/N?” You turn your attention away from the two and look to Doyoung, seeing a Piplup in his arms. It looks happy to be there, and you can’t help but smile at how nice it was to see him getting along with your Pokemon.
“Aww, I think Piplup likes you,” you say. Doyoung looks down at it, and Piplup wiggles in his arms at your words.
“Piplup!”
“Oh my- Don’t say that. I don’t want your Pokemon getting attached to me-” He quickly sets the Piplup down, rubbing the back of his head awkwardly. “Anyways! I was just coming over to ask about its tailfeathers. Are they supposed to be damaged like that?” Doyoung asks.
The Piplup comes to stand next to you, rubbing its head against your arm in affection. You pick it up and bring it close, nuzzling your nose against the top of its head before nodding at Doyoung.
“It got into a little accident a few days after it was born is all. Nothing too serious. This little Piplup is a troublemaker,” you say. Doyoung nods his head, kneeling down in front of you.
“It seems like a lot of your Pokemon like to do things their own way,” he says. You laugh and shrug, setting the Piplup down as it goes to chase one of its siblings.
“They got bold personalities. They take after me, I’m sure. I’m sure your Pokemon take after you too, right? Like, your Bunnelby seems really hardworking. And from what I’ve heard, you are too,” you tell him. Doyoung’s face turns sour and he looks back in the direction that his sister is in.
“Then I guess it makes sense that all my sister’s Pokemon are so aloof… Just like her,” Doyoung says. You laugh, patting his shoulder.
“That’s her personality. Her Pokemon match her well,” you say. Doyoung shakes his head, looking back at you and rolling his eyes.
“She needs to be more open. Make more friends. I’m not going to be around forever…” Doyoung’s sour expression turns to one that is gloomy. It wasn’t a good look for him by any means, so you move your hand to his face and pat his cheek, grinning at him.
“Come on. There’s still lots of Pokemon to heal.”
Doyoung nods his head, and you both stand up, moving on to the help heal more Pokemon.
-
After a long day of healing Pokemon and watching over them, you, Taeyong, and the siblings settle inside the house to eat a quiet dinner prepared by Taeyong. He goes overboard as he usually does when guests are over, but, the food is so good you don’t mind much. Once dinner is finished you move to the living room to hang out together while Taeyong does the dishes. You bring the Squirtle you had traveled to town with into the house, letting it sit on your lap while Taeyong passed out tea to the siblings before heading back to the kitchen.
The room was quiet once more, no conversation to be held between anyone, especially not from the girl who sat across from you on the couch. She had kept to herself for most of dinner as well, whispering things to Doyoung if she wanted something to be said. Compared to Doyoung, she was so ridiculously shy. You’re not sure how they could be siblings when they were so very different from each other.
You watch Doyoung’s sister as she kisses her Abra on its nose, watching as it teleports away. To where, you had no idea, but you’re sure it was to somewhere more quiet than the living room. You continue to watch her, trying to figure out if there was possibly any way to get her to open up at least a little bit. If you were going to be neighbors, she had to get along with you. And, even more so if you and Doyoung were going to keep doing things together, or if she and Taeyong might do things, then you definitely had to be better friends with her.
Maybe you should ask Taeyong how to get on her good side. She didn’t seem to mind Taeyong.
She says something to her brother before you can even think about asking Taeyong anything, and his eyes widen suddenly at her words. It’s so freaking cute.
“Is it really?” He asks. You figure out what they’re talking about when Doyoung looks towards one of the windows. Darkness has settled outside, and you nod your head in understanding. It was late. You doubt they would want to walk back to their farm this late nor in the dark.
“You can stay the night if you’d like,” you offer. Doyoung’s eyes fall on you and he smiles, eyes still wide.
“Really? It’s not too much of a bother?” You shake your head, laughing.
“No. There’s a guest room you two can share right across the bathroom at the end of the hall,” you tell them. Doyoung perks up, turning to his sister to say something but Taeyong cuts in first, calling from the kitchen.
“Are you staying the night?” The room is quiet as you and Taeyong wait for an answer, a soft mumble across from you being said to Doyoung. Doyoung happily grins, turning to you to tell you that yes, they would be staying the night.
You would clap, but Squirtle suddenly wants your attention to show off a move its been learning from Slowking. Squirtle opens its mouth, a few bubbles coming out of it that float up towards your face. They pop as they make contact with your skin, and you blink a few times before letting out a yawn. Squirtle bounces with joy at the move working, and you smile patting its head for a job well done.
“Are you going to evolve yours into that too?” You hear Doyoung’s sister ask. You look away from Squirtle to see Vaporeon walking over to Taeyong, his Eevee in his arms. You look to Doyoung’s sister to see her Eevee in her arms as well, and you immediately know what they’re talking about, letting you join in on the conversation.
“Taeyong said he’s going to try for one of the evolutions that don’t require a stone,” you speak up. “I’m putting my money on Umbreon; he’s always had Dark-Type Pokemon since forever.”
“Sucks to be you, sis. Your Pokemon would be absolutely useless against his in a battle,” Doyoung says. You giggle, nodding your head in agreement.
“Oh, you battle? What team do you have?” Taeyong asks. The tone in his voice is so excited and interested, battling being one of the things he loved to do. If the girl he was crushing on liked to battle too, that would only make him happier.
But, instead of saying anything more, she stands up suddenly, excusing herself and walking out of the living room. The three of you are quiet for a long moment before Taeyong speaks up.
“Did I say something wrong?”
“No. She’s just… like that,” Doyoung says. He reaches across the couch to pick up the abandoned Eevee, patting its head to let it know things were fine with its trainer. “She’s not one to talk about battling a lot. I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have even mentioned it.”
“Why not? Battling is awesome. Has she ever even battled before?” You ask, frowning at Doyoung. He nods his head.
“She and I were raised on battling. We would watch our dad battle trainers all the time and he’d train us too… I said we were supposed to take over the gym one day. But… clearly, neither of us really liked that. I don’t mind Pokemon battles but she…”
Taeyong stands up then, excusing himself from the room as quick as possible. You stare after him, knowing exactly what was going through his head. The girl he had been crushing on didn’t like battling. One of the things he loved most in his life, and she probably couldn’t stand it.
You stand up, holding Squirtle in your arms as you move to the other couch to sit next to Doyoung. He looks at you with a frown on his face, sighing. “It’s because of me.”
You tilt your head in confusion, not sure what Doyoung was talking about now. “What do you mean?”
“She hates battling because of me. I mean, not entirely. A lot was because of our dad. He was always pushing us to be just like him when my sister was never like him. She always did her own thing, or she followed me around a lot. And then I…” He pauses, looking down at his sister’s Eevee. “I left home. I wrote a note and then just left. I’m sure our dad was especially hard on her because I wasn’t there anymore.
“He made her battle with Pokemon she didn’t even like and made her keep doing it until she could prove herself to him… But she wouldn’t have had to do any of that if I just stayed. She probably wouldn’t be so aloof and such a loner if I just-
“Doyoung,” you interrupt. You put a hand on his, hoping it’ll offer some comfort. “You can’t blame yourself for something like that. Following your dreams isn’t a crime. And your sister…”
You look to the direction of the bathroom, shaking your head. “She can’t blame you for wanting to leave and for actually doing it. You did what needed to be done.” You shrug, turning back to Doyoung. “I don’t know. You two can’t blame yourselves and each other forever. What your dad did isn’t right, but what you two are doing now because of him isn’t right either.”
You take your hand away then, standing up and taking a step back away from the couch. “I’m going to bed. Don’t stay up too late, alright? We still have to get back the baby Pokemon in the morning.”
Doyoung doesn’t look up at you but nods his head. You stare at him for a moment, hoping you didn’t make things worse for him. You didn’t want to do that to him.
“Goodnight, Doyoung,” you say. He still doesn’t look up at you, but he does end up replying back.
“Goodnight, Y/N.”
You take your leave from the living room and go to your room with Squirtle, not wanting to go back outside to put it away. Letting it sleep in your room would be just as fine. You set it down on your bed before sitting down yourself, looking over at the incubator sitting on your nightstand, the egg sitting there just as silent as ever.
“Squirtle?” Squirtle comes on the other side of you, leaning over until its hands come to rest on the edge of the table. It stares at the egg in wonder, and you smile, patting its shell.
“Do you think my egg will hatch, Squirtle?” You ask. Squirtle looks up at you, then back at the egg, then back at you before nodding.
“Squirtle Squirt.”
“…like, you really really think so?” Squirtle nods again.
“Squirtle.”
“Really, really, really?”
“Squirtle!”
You giggle, picking up Squirtle and laying down. “Okay. If you think so, then I do too.”
“Squir-tle.”

Umbrella, meowth and caterpie (for the asks) Also, what's your favourite dragon type pokemon?
Anonymous said: kanto + johto region asks?Â
ok i’m guessing you meant umbreon there instead of umbrella lmao
Bulbasaur: What is the first Pokemon game you ever owned?
this is so complex but the first pokemon game i really played through was a copy of crystal version a friend lent me to get into pokemon (he even let me borrow his backlit gba it was so cool back in like 2003) even though i only got to like the first gym lol. then i bought my own copy of sapphire version a little later hoping to get a gba of my own for christmas that year (i didn’t) so i didn’t really manage to actually play it since my gba owning friend moved away after that.
then the first one i actually truly played through and the one that is definitely my First is diamond version which i got for my 9th birthday back in 2007 since another friend of mine preordered both diamond and pearl but for some reason got two us versions of diamond shipped out real fuckin early (for reference the us versions were released late april 2007 and the europe versions came out at the end of july 2007) so he got two identical copies of diamond sometime in may and since it wasn’t pearl version he decided to give it away. but first he let me test it out by playing through to trade him the other starters he didn’t own but then i got too fucking attached to that fucking piplup i was supposed to give away and couldn’t part with him (fun fact: i initially wanted turtwig but he wanted a piplup traded over first, so imagine the alternate timeline out there where i stan turtwig instead lol). so out of pity or w/e he gave me it for my birthday and i spent that entire summer borrowing his brick ds and literally having my life changed. wow god i miss being a kid.
Charmander: Who was your first Pokemon?
squeaky…the piplup…the Boy…my son whomst i adore and would literally die for any time any place.
Squirtle: Which Pokemon do you think is the coolest?
all of them but especially everyone from sinnoh
Caterpie: What is the first Pokemon you ever caught?
a starly named flapper!! i still have her too she’s a beautiful and powerful staraptor who’s been kicking ass for nearly ten years now.
Butterfree: What moment in the anime do you consider the saddest?
idk i fucking cried a lot at the anime - every time someone was released i fucking bawled (god shoutout to togepi and arbok/weezing in particular) and every time that little chimchar of ash’s overcame his abusive past and showed his true strength i literally teared up like a proud mother (you know how like team rocket in sinnoh fucking stanned chimchar, like… bitchmetoothefuck.gif)
and at the end of the manaphy movie and the diamond/pearl series i was literally inconsolable for a good day wow i did that.
Pikachu: Who is your favourite Pokemon?
piplup is literally god’s gift to humanity so take a sip babes…
Raichu: Who is better, Pikachu, Pichu, or Raichu?
i mean i love all of them for varying reasons and one of my original team members is a raichu whom is a terribly good boy that i love like my own child
Ninetales: Which Pokemon do you think is the most beautiful?
all of them no pokemon is ugly i wish i was as beautiful as a pokemon
Zubat: Which Pokemon do you find the most annoying?
honestly??? encountering a fuckton of wobbuffets in diamond while looking for a lickitung nearly made me want to die. still love wobbuffet though.
Meowth: Which evil organization is your favourite?
uh?? either Literal Gay Icons jessie and james or team galactic, but i did enjoy the complexity and depth of team plasma love that plot shit.
Slowpoke: Which Pokemon do you think is the dumbest?
this ask is rude.
Eevee: What Eeveelution is your favourite?
probably espeon lol??? i love its design and it’s so good to use in battle?? and like? just the idea of eevee evolving into this creature of immense power because it loves you so much is?? tears up?
Vaporeon: Who is your favourite first generation Pokemon?
what kind of fucking question. but probably either bulbasaur, snorlax or magnemite.
Jolteon: Who is your favourite second generation Pokemon?
probably absolutely and definitely the wooper and marill lines.
Flareon: Who is your favourite third generation Pokemon?
hoenn’s so good though?? excluding starters probably either the skitty or whismur lines.
Espeon: Who is your favourite fourth generation Pokemon?
literally all of them fourth gen was flawless a masterpiece gaming’s magnum opus.
but probably definitely piplup and a collective second place of munchlax, happiny, the cherubi line, roserade, croagunk, and ambipom. wow sinnoh was so good i love her.
Umbreon: Who is your favourite fifth generation Pokemon?
minccino was love at first sight but i’m also really fond of the vanillish line!!
Leafeon: What Eeveelution is your least favourite?
this question’s really rude but i’ve also never used jolteon like ever so maybe that one?
Glaceon: What Eeveelution type would you like to see in the future?
hmm, well the pattern is that eeveelutions tend to be special-oriented types so likely something like dragon or ghost, but i’d personally like to see a poison type or fighting type eeveelution!!
Mewtwo: Who is your most powerful Pokemon?
i mean objectively the event arceus i got back in early 2010 but in reality probably my aforementioned staraptor or maybe my golem too.
Mew: Who is your favourite legendary Pokemon?
sinnoh duh?? but probably like the lake guardians or shaymin (i love the cute ones).
Chikorita: Which is your favourite region?
i mean at this point do i need to make it more clear that i absolutely fucking stan sinnoh like nothing else
but like johto and unova come in second place
Cyndaquil: Which is your least favourite region?
that’s tough, but probably kalos - it was just too linear and forced (i know unova was too, but that made sense considering it’s the most urban region of them all and the games were heavily story-oriented) and kept teasing you with these vast landscapes and environments that you couldn’t explore, and while lumiose city is fucking gorgeous, there’s just no substance to the rest of the region.
Totodile: Who is your favourite starter Pokemon?
god i wonder whom………piplup
Noctowl: What was your first shiny Pokemon?
a munchlax in my diamond version - i’d spent fucking forever with those honey trees trying to catch one, and the first one that showed up was a fucking shiny i literally shrieked.
Togetic: What Pokemon makes you the most happy?
all of them?? pokemon are so good i’m going to cry??
Mareep: What is your favourite base form Pokemon?
piplup lol??Â
Flaaffy: What is your favourite first evolution?
difficult but probably luxio
Ampharos: What is your favourite second evolution?
probably staraptor?? but maybe crobat and exploud too?? they’re all just so good??
Wooper: What do you like more, battles or contests?
contests literally saved my life so those
Smeargle: Have you ever drawn any Pokemon fanart?
binch….i did a 200-page long pokemon comic series when i was 10 where the character literally looks like problem sleuth and there was an entire story arc about releasing a magnezone into the wild that got me really emotional at the time??
Raikou: Who is your favourite character in the anime?
dawn aka literally the best person in the anime?? undisputed??
again team rocket aka Actual Gay Icons comes a close second
Entei: What is your dream team?
um my diamond team?? i love them so much??? can’t imagine ever loving another team like them??
Suicune: Who is your least favourite character in the anime?
i mean cilan and clemont were so boring like?? where is the personality beyond Knowledgeable Region Guide?? i’m starving out here
Celebi: If you could change anything in the anime, what would it be?
most basic ever but bring fucking brock back all these other male companions are so fucking dull he was the best part of the entire goddamn show!! i feel cheated and robbed!!
and bonus mode: my fave dragon type is probably gible!! a good boy!!
