Maybe in the US, but remember that there are many countries that have outlawed alcohol, and have lower crime rates. There’s also a restriction in many freedoms, but yes, fewer car accidents, lower rates of child abuse, lower rates of addiction, etc.
...............................................Prove it.
I’m not even gonna GO THERE unless you invest a little work into your claims first. PROVE IT.
#the war on drug users#mizumanta#like look i'm not out to bash the countries like this#(they're heavily Islamic countries in Asia and Africa)#but I've got friends from Iran and similar places who are like '...yeah we DEFINITELY drank alcohol back hom'#so I ALREADY doubt the effectiveness of such prohibitions#much less whether they're actually humane or lead to better outcomes#if someone ELSE wants to provide me with longitudinal data about child welfare in countries before and after prohibition of alcohol#or such a prohibition's repeal#i might find a little time to look at it#because it's interesting to look at how you'd statistically unlace that kind of data#a friend and i recently got into a conversation about how to tell if industrialization has made us happier or less happy#and how hard that is to tell in countries that industrialized long before psych and sociology became organized disciplines#and she told me about countries that were able to get a baseline mental health reading BEFORE they urbanized or industrialized#guess what!#despite the breakdown of the extended family and the loss of traditional lifestyles#mental health often tended to improve#suggesting things like 'traditional agrarian lifestyles include more misery than we like to remember'#and 'modern mental health treatment is really good shit'
