so little insanity moment i hope you'll excuse me a sec, related to Mystery Blorbo.
so yesterday i had a Icha Insanity Level 10 Moment where i kinda spiraled down crying and all about Mystery Blorbo literally all day that led me, as one does, to spam my bestie who knows about them 30 messages including at least 3 different homemade memes i've made about them, while i also collected various pictures again of Mystery Blorbo.
And, as a normal person does, i realized i could make a collage of the pictures i had in my files about them and put it on my wall.
so i start selecting which pictures i want to print in a word document (it takes 22 pages, i put multiple pictures by pages tho) and then look for my Blu-Tack (? google translation says it's how you say it the paste that fixes papers on wall) but i can't find it for the life of mine.
so i figure my masterplan has to wait, and ideally, while i go buy some Blu-Tack to a stationary store, i might as well use their printers to print pictures bc my own is bad with colors in general.
except as one does, it obviously haunts me all night, and i wake up uneased thinking i need to at least find the Blu-Tack today. Plus i need to do some restock on meds and grocery shopping anyway.
I prepare myself to go, and since my family just decided to annoy me today, i needed some comfort and i put my little custom made Mystery Blorbo plush in my bag to accompany me, but then i realize it's Sunday, and on top of that, a holiday, so the majority of stores are closed.
I figure my plans have to wait tomorrow. But for some reasons, i'm in full state of unrest. I can't focus on anything i just want to go hunt for it.
So i figure, screw it for the stationary shop, i can find some Blu-Tack on some hyperstore, and a couple of them are still opened today (ironically, not the one closest to my home that i would have gone to otherwise, so i have to look for an unusual store for it). So here starts my quest for it.
I blast my Mystery Blorbo's playlist in my ears (as i always do), and i go out full of Mystery Blorbo's thoughts in the quest of Blu-Tack so i can hang Mystery Blorbo's pictures in my living room.
First store i go to, where the Blu-Tack is next to cooking objects, they ran out of Blu-Tack. Shame.
I decide not to give up though and start going through more stores. 2nd Store i go, where the item is near the bathroom supplies? no luck either.
I think about going to a 3rd store at the opposite of the city, because one of the other bigger store i could go to is usually closed on Sunday. But, while i'm way underway, halfway between the store i disregarded and the store i was going to, i have a slight moment of "but i should check if it's REALLY closed though", and turns my feet around to check that store.
what i didn't consider is that today being a holiday where we usually consume a specific cake -- the store in question was actually opened. to sell emergency cakes.
When i go to this store, i usually go to the floor with food on it, so i never linger on parts of the store with utility objects, which is two floors above. but i know my way to it, and i move up.
And so i move to the Blu-Tack corner. Which is, unlike every place i've been before, in a corner with various hobbies related things surrounding the aisle.
and legit just next to it, there's an item i can't enter into details about --- related to Mystery Blorbo, that has no business being here, that i legit ALMOST BOUGHT ONLINE TWO WEEKS AGO. AND THEN I DIDNT. BECAUSE I THOUGHT HAVING IT DELIVERED HERE WOULD BE A PAIN. and also the one store i found it on wasn't really trustworthy.
literally JUST NEXT to the Blu-Tack. JUST next to it. Like ONE STEP away of distance from it. I could see it from standing in front of the Blu-Tack.
And i'm trying to keep it vague because the less you know about it the better for me (don't try to guess please), but it's not something i expected to find here. Like, it's not from something i'd expect to find easily in stores. And the item in question is also supposed to be pretty niche and only found in very specific stores, but this specific version was not on shelves last time i checked because it wasn't popular even in its niche.
I had a demented plan of making a collage of Mystery Blorbo, then had a nice so full of unrest i remade my whole plan, improvised because today everything is closed and nothing should have been doable, went to stores where i wouldn't have found the item that happened to have ran out of Blu-Tack, thought about going to a store THAT IS USUALLY CLOSED on Sunday and is only opened for the holiday, on an aisle i don't even usually come CLOSE to, to find the fucking Blu-Tack that started my journey, all that while blasting my Mystery Blorbo songs and holding my Mystery Blorbo plush in my bag, and it's at the end of this absolutely insane journey i found an item i've been CONVEYING that i was told wouldn't be found on here because it's too niche to be there, RIGHT. HERE.
Am i insane or is this insane. Like i remind you the whole thing with Mystery Blorbo is that they first started appearing in my dreams out of nowhere, haunting me, giving me legit fever dreams when i didn't buy something about them i found so much so i almost sleptwalk my way into going to buy it 4 TIMES in the same night, that i learnt they've showed up multiple times in the last decade of my life at various moments that made me curious in them but not enough to get into their stuff, that i had actual magazines full of articles that talked about him at my mom's place, hell pretty recently i also found times in my childhood (very early) where i almost got into something adjacent to it (my bestie says it counts because when i recalled the details she was crying laughing at how specific it was), also while i happen to own stuff related to the motif linked to this character from waayy before that, and much more things i can't even start to point out to lest i remove the mystery all together---
And then after another unrestful night thinking about them and making insane plans about them, which i was supposed to postpone but was too unrestful to postpone, i fucking find. This thing. in the most crazy level of circumstances there is.
also another layer is that i've been talking about the item to my bestie and was lamenting how more expensive it was online (esp with delivery fees) than in store, and my bestie, bless her soul, had had plans to find it for me ------- but she couldn't find it anywhere online. (like i tried to dissuade her but she's too sweet)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(small explanation to friend about my reasons for finding it)
Tumblr media
(the typos are kept for autenticity as i was in a hurry, on my phone, and also genuinely shaking)
so long story short i'm adding this to the list of "i think Mystery Blorbo is haunting me because this is not normal" that keeps growing every single day. i feel ill.

7:50 p.m Added to/Edited
Last blurp: I am worried that if I drug myself with 2mg of Melatonin, 25mg of Hydroxyzine and 1mg of xanax at 3:30 a.m I'll struggle to sleep bc by the time maximum effectiveness hits it'll be 6 a.m and I'll have only been up for 12 hours and 30 minutes... I shouldn't have let myself oversleep.
Maybe I'll take it at 4:30 or 4 a.m. I should pass out regardless but I mean I want to make sure. I don't want to have to take a second Hydroxyzine or one 25mg of Benadryl.... I don't want to be overly sedated. I mean I already overly sedate myself on the 1mg Xanax days cause when I see myself falling asleep at 8:30 a.m... it's like my circadian rhythm is getting worse... I got to be asleep by 7:30 the latest... I don't want my life to become more dysfunctional. I got a lot of phone calls to make and I can't be waking up at 5 p.m although I don't think that'll be a long standing issue. It's just between yesterday and today, I woke up yesterday at 4:48 and today at 5:15... also I fell asleep closer to 9 a.m both days... tomorrow I will probably wake up around 2 p.m or 3 and it should help reset everything.
I won't have another 1MG Xanax day until my t-shot next week. Everything should go back to normal tomorrow.
Beyond that I wish my family did something for memorial day. My family is so fucking dead. We have a pool and everything and we planned nothing. I'm going to get ear plugs on the 1st so I can swim. Whenever I decide to do that which won't be often but- when I want to if I don't have ear plugs I get water stuck in my ears and it drives me crazy! So I wont swim until I get them.
On Thursday after therapy I plan to watch movies with my mom. Wednesday I'll go grocery shopping if I don't tomorrow and then I'll have therapy at 7 p.m on Wednesday. I prob will wait on the gym. Once I get the oil change out of the way, my next big thing is the apple store for apple care cause of my quicktime player taking years to add videos together.
I don't want to get ahead of myself. All I have to do this month is the oil change/car wash, my t-shots, bloodwork for my thyroid, the dentist on the 11th assuming he doesn't cancel again and get the estimate on teeth sealant cause I want to move on that and then the cardiologist on the 26th. The gym is going to fit in nicely and I'll have time to game at least once or twice a week. Of course I want to move on glasses but the money makes me want to wait... I'll consider the teeth sealant Cost versus the glasses... if I could get the bad tooth done for 150$ or less tbh it's more important than my glasses...why? It's fucking BROWN in the corner and nothing gets it off. And it's significantly cheaper than glasses...
Of course I could game after therapy or something too but I care about immersion... and tv time and sleep is my only escape from this shitty hallucination. Despite that I want to game and I figure if I cut out a day or two a week I can enjoy it...
I really want to go up 3000mg of white mulberries a day but I'm waiting until the 13th of June cause it'll be a month as of that date since I went to 2000mg and it has been well tolerated...
I got to get cbd on June 1st which I'm not happy about but I said I'd give it to June 26th at least 2 months on 100mg... I may give it to July 26th cause I feel the need to up my white mulberries. They really do seem to work as an antipsychotic.
I also got to call about disability a few times this month so I can either keep my appt in July or reschedule it depending on my dad cause I want my backpay as soon as possible but another worthless phone appt to accomplish nothing makes no sense. So I should call prob every week until I hear he is receiving disability and cancel/reschedule depending on that.

We have a couple things to announce about Charlotte county.
1. We have a lot of projects that we're doing here shortly a huge list. About 30,000 jobs ranging from 1 billion apartment complexes in about three of those in the county to 600 house renovations in one block area like our son's area and that would be every house and it's not his area but there is an area like that that was devastated. We have a lot of rip outs and he mentioned it there's like double wides and camper places and they are completely devastated who was still there but it's moldy the rooms are all ruined and the campers are all damaged badly and they need to move out. And we have other work too but this is a major event it is a huge event and the east coast is getting hammered while their houses are a mess they can't stand it they don't have the manpower and we're getting manpower now and we're able to do it so we are rolling and that would be tomorrow today it was seeing that about 15,000 Max came down to each county and to start work and didn't really have much of an impact and that's not a huge number but each county it was about 1% of the population but that's significant when we come down tomorrow it's going to be about 3% of the total population of each county additional and it's not massively noticeable only accepting the areas of damage. But over the next week or two will probably be up to 10% and that's significant but not massive. We'll have to have a support for us and that's going to be pretty big.
2. Along with the work that's going to go down here it's going on all over the country. But it will affect here as we put stores and shops in along the perimeter people are going to want them here and then demand them here and they already have. All sorts of services and also sorts of products are going to be flowing in and people are going to be living a little better and we are going to be able to help our son
3. There's a huge war going on between Max foreigners versus warlock and that includes Tommy f as a warlock and they're not stopping they cannot stand them and we can't stand the morlock either and it is war and they are losing very badly and here in Florida they're going to be expelled momentarily any day now. And they are weakening globally right now it's like 1 and 4 million is there a population and the cities are once again filling up and emptying every hour on the hour and it is rapid okay they are dying very fast we anticipate they'll be out in a couple days and a few more big incidents and they will be.
3. Several things are wrong here with our son's life about 90% of it can be pinned on the retards and it will be because once they're out of here other people start doing stuff this more normal. One of them is funding and that's money they want to get it money and it's all sorts of reasons not to but we know about the money and we're going to fight it and we do have a system and we're getting ready for it and it will go across the board for regular people too and we are taking over Banks as we speak using the idiots
4. Trucks and equipment and things like that are getting grabbed by Max from idiots pickup trucks too larger cars and anything that can bang into people they're getting fired from government jobs today about 3% of the government jobs that they hold and tomorrow is going to be like 5% and Saturday they will get fired from jobs that are working Saturdays like Parks and recreation and police and sheriff and all sorts of monitoring type jobs and agency jobs from the federal government and they will start firing them from TV stations they promise to and the people who work there with them are in hell all the time.
5. Bars clubs restaurants are all firing idiots tonight and every single one of them including Burger King and McDonald's and every food eatery you can find they're starting to fire them from grocery stores and they're finding they're trying stuff all the time and they can't stand them anymore and they're trying to hire people constantly and having a job fair tomorrow and Saturday and Sunday and it's a huge job fair and we suggest here if you're a Mac to sign up for it EMTs please fire engines hospitals all sorts of stuff
6. There is an order out on them and it's here in punta Gorda and Port Charlotte too you are not to touch anybody physically at all. If you ever found touching someone and you're morelok you'll be arrested. They found it to be diseased yeah but that's the excuse it is what it means symbolic. And Bobby touched her son and she's been working on them ever since and she got fired from tons of jobs because of her idiot remarks and her insane attitude some other women have done it too like Miley Cyrus one day of Sun touched your back and she said I don't get it and he said you will and tons of times she's spilling and breaking stuff losing stuff her armies are are totaled she's almost gone completely and she said it wasn't that I said that's Insanity how can anyone ever do what you people do it's so easy and she almost died laughing because she was fooled the whole time until he said the last line and she said his dad and I said f*** you you're dead I'm putting a real hit on you now thank you for that though. She left in a half and said he sucks and we say who cares we're putting a real hit on you and we're going after them hard and was sick of them and there are about 15 million people coming after them in Charlotte county right now and pulling them out.
7. We are aggressively seeking them out and we have sent in units and we're pulling out certain individuals who are awful and we're going to keep doing it until they don't return and they're dust and of course John Reema Lord and son are two of them and Terry cheesman but ridiculous assholes. It looks easy and they're coming down to do it and it works lots of get killed and the only stipulation is brain intact we don't care if you bring just ahead tons of people are doing it and huge amounts of money are being paid out by Max and others for it to be done dangerous assassins are coming to take you idiots out so please comment as you will and you're going to learn the hard way to never comment like you do ever. They are up in arms but all sorts of dumb things still and they're getting hit and tons of cops are coming out and they're going after people and they pull anybody over that is impersonating a police officer immediately
8. They're in charge of what they're doing and they let you know it the max are telling you you're out of here and tonight we're going to nail you and tonight they're going to exhaustingly bomb the s*** out of you or whatever it is they're doing you say in the midwest until you're out in the upper Midwest until you're out there's so many of you up there that can hit the whole place and they said it too the plan to hit the s*** out of it in this evacuation going on now to Australia and New Zealand and once you're out of those areas the rest of the world you're going to fall cuz you don't have any other areas except the islands and these islands near us and the islands in Asia and other Islands will empty out of you fast and you're going to run to Australia and New Zealand or parish you're gross disgusting and stupid and people hate you and you should know it that you're hated
8. Huge numbers of people went to assault you now Brad for what you're saying cuz you're an idiot and your own people do too. It's on now they're pursuing you very hard and they're hanging tons of you down there in fort Myers for what you're saying and what you're trying and tons of your dying by the way that's a huge area of death for more lock it's like 100 octillion an hour it's gigantic say the whole area twice an hour and empties out of your population all of you more luck gigantic numbers of clones dead huge numbers.
9. Massive movies are on the way it starts after tonight and it's more than just the empire hitting you tons of foreigners are going to be doing it and we'll be in the foreign fleet and the empire fleet and other fleets hitting you and starts shortly too the United States it started at 5:25 p.m. and they're hitting places all over the East Coast and they're sending troops out everywhere as are we
So good luck more luck and goodbye

Whew, what a past few days! I worked (IT/Not CB), ran around the neighborhood for some Christmas presents to ship to my family in the US. I'm a dumb dumb the other day. I went to the Post Office and either forgot a custom form was needed (gifts of small value), or I figured they'd just have me fill out a piece of paper like every other time I've sent stuff out of the country.
It was like 80-85°F in there, packed with people (of course half are coughing, not wearing a mask (I was but I guess I'm a "weirdo" 🙄)... I was there for about 30 minutes. Two women were verbally fighting (in what I assume is Russian or Ukrainian) and the police showed up as I was leaving. 😅 This was after running from store to store to get some gifts to send. I sent my mom somewhat fancy arthritis gel, some chocolate, a candle that has a topper and it spins (via heat, a tealight candle-- Confusing to me but I saw it in action at the store!). I also sent (HAHA) 2 small bottles of water, put in Diet Coke bottles. I have to prove to them that the water here is *the best*! I sent my son some new snacks not available there and a hand-wrirten note, as requested. ❤️
And then I do my regular grocery/ cleaning supplies, etc. shopping. I'm pooped!
So I get home, undressed, and go siiiiigh.
And then Carl texts me and says we need to go to the theatre tonight-- In 3 hours, minus the 30 minute subway ride.
We ordered a 6 play package but we never got the tickets mailed or emailed, so Carl sent them an email, and they called.
I thought, okay, I'm tired, why the hell didn't they just send the tickets? But I felt like dolling up a bit, had something nice to wear (thank gawd for keeping clothes that didn't used to fit!) Got dolled up, Carl would meet me at the theater, and of COURSE, I got lost. They're re-doing the subway. It was raining, then sleeting then snowing. I was freezing and just wanted to go home. I had my phone and don't understand meters or crooked European streets. Blah. Missed the first act, the intermission was in 30 mins, so I said, it's fine (they'd let me sit on the balcony to not interupt the play-- "maybe on a stool". 🤣 Wtf, my prices were the same, but I digress...). I had to pee, I was walking forever, and my coat and previously fabulously looking hair were wet. Dried off, and had a white wine and waited for Carl for the Act II. Act II was great.
I enjoyed it, and I'll try to catch the first one online.
Today was just work, work, work. Tomorrow I plan to go Xmas shopping. The tree is up, with lights and ornaments. It's sooo nice to have a functional living room again! 😄

Hi!! Can you do another request for Charlie Gillespie? Can it be the 5 times he tries to propose and the one time he actually does? Thank you!!
Fifth Time Works A Charm - Charlie Gillespie
Tumblr media
a/n: I loved writing this, especially because I’m procastinating to write the next Chapter for my Luke ff. I hope you like it as much as I do.
Requests are open!

------------------------------------------
He knew from the moment he kissed you goodnight on your second date that you were the one he was gonna marry one day. He loved the way you always complained about back pain, yet you never sat normally in any chair and the way you still paid attention to him when he talked about a topic you had no clue on. The spark in your eyes and the curve of your lips when you laughed at one of his awful jokes. Every Morning he woke up next to you was a good one and he loved you more and more everyday. He was totally and completely whipped for you that wasn't the hard part, finding the right moment to propose was.
1
The two of you were on vacation in Hawaii at the same resort the two of you accidentally met a couple years ago and learned that you actually only lived 30 minutes away from each other. You were laying on the beach, the soft towel brushing your skin slightly, a big sun hat shielding your eyes and face from the hot sun.
Cold drops of water hit your exposed stomach “Baby look, the water is so nice!” more water hit your warm skin. Screeching you sat up and saw your boyfriend standing over you, with a big smile while he wrenched out his hair, letting all the cold water hit you.
“It's cold.” you giggled. “And you're warm!” He dropped on top of you, instantly cooling you down with his cold skin. You tried to protest but he was faster and stronger than you are. Putting his elbows around your face, he lifted some weight off of your chest then he stared at you.
“Hmm? What are you staring at me for?” you asked, amusement evident in your voice. “You just look very beautiful right now. You look relaxed.”
Blushing, you cupped one of his cheeks and responded “Thank you handsome. I am relaxed, really needed this getaway.” He smiled and leaned down a bit to kiss your forehead, your nose and then your lips. You savoured the saltines that lingered on your lips for a second longer before he pulled away. He got off of you and rested on his own towel.
Sitting up a bit more, you pulled out your book and read for a bit, when suddenly something made your toe wiggle. Looking over the border of the book, you noticed that Charlie wanted your attention. You looked at him for a moment, taking in his small smile.
“I have something planned for tonight.” He said and buried your foot in the sand. “Yeah? Care to tell me what it is?”
“Nope that's gonna be a surprise! Let's get back to the room and get ready.”
He told you to get dressed casually yet fancy so you wore your hair up in a bun, light makeup with a bold red lip and a flowy maxi dress. You were sitting on the hotel bed when you heard someone vomiting.
“Babe? You okay?” you questioned and walked to the bathroom door. “Did you eat something weird?” the door opened and you were faced with a pale Charlie. “Oh baby.” a small frown sat on your face when you saw him. “Let's stay in. We can do your surprise tomorrow when you feel better, okay?” Pouting, he shook his head “No. I feel fine, let's go.” he went to grab your hand but you took a small step back.
“Charlie, you're sick. There's no harm in staying in today. Health first, adventures second okay?” His shoulders dropped in defeat, there was no way he could convince you to still go out, so he nodded and followed you back to the bed. But before, in a second that you went to grab a water bottle, he pulled a small black box from his pockets and stuffed it back into his suitcase.
Unfortunately he was sick for the rest of your trip.
2
You and your boyfriend Charlie were chilling on the couch in the living room. Charlie was responding to some emails while you scrolled through instagram. The radio was on in the background, filling the room with soft music. It was late evening and you put some candles on and turned up your little lights that were scattered all over the place to make it cozy.
Your ears picked up the familiar tune of ‘It's been a long long time by Harry James’ and a big smile spread on your lips. You jumped up, throwing your phone somewhere on the couch and started pulling on Charlie's arm. “Dance with me.”
“Baby I’m working.” he said with a grin, already closing his laptop.
“Please just dance to this song. It's our song babe! Then I won't annoy you the whole day.” you pleaded, jumping from one foot to the other, while still pulling on his arm.
“Okay. Just this song. I know how much you love it.” He stood up, his arms finding your waist as you interlaced your hands behind his back. Your manicured fingers immediately start playing with his longer hair. The two of you swayed to the music, he was humming along to the music, while you closed your eyes. He dipped you, waking you laugh. Then you twirled him around your arm. The song came to your favorite part and you wholeheartedly sang along, beaming up at your boyfriend.
‘Kiss me once’ You gave him a kiss on the shoulder and he kissed the top of your head, pulling you closer into his chest.
‘Then, kiss me twice’ You stood on your tiptoes and kissed his forehead and the tip of his nose.
‘Then, kiss me once again’ finally you kissed his lips. Charlie hummed in approval, tightening his grip on your waist.
Slowly the song came to an end when your phone started to ring. Charlie looked at your expectantly, waiting for you to pick it up.
“If it's important they'll call again.” you muttered with your face pressed against his shoulder. Sadly for you both a second later it began to ring again. Groaning the two of you left your little bubble as you picked up your phone.
“Oh hi grandma. How have you been?” You excused yourself with a swift kiss on his cheek and left the living room, leaving behind a lonely boyfriend.
“We got a special request to play this song today.” The radio host announced “I hope she said yes man!”
3
You just finished your last exam of the last semester of college. You were done. Finished. Now you only have to wait and see if you're actually gonna graduate or if you have to repeat the semester. Still, you felt like celebrating. Charlie had interview after interview scheduled for today so you didn't tell him right of the bat. You spent the day doing some mundane household tasks and grocery shopping. The moment your boyfriend was finished for the day, he ran out of your office to search for you.
You laid on the couch, watching a new netflix series when you heard footsteps approach. “You’ve done it baby!” he pulled you off the couch and twirled you around. Giggling you answered “I haven't graduated yet.”
“And? You will, I'm sure of it because I have the smartest girlfriend in the world and she just finished her last test. This needs celebration!” he left small kisses all over your face.
Due to the pandemic, you had to stay in the appartement to party. You didn't care though. Charlie ordered something from your favourite italian place and you pulled out the wine from your kitchen cabinet. Somehow the food took ages to arrive and to pass the time you decided to open the bottle.
Wine always had an interesting effect on the two of you, especially on an empty stomach. Charlie got very needy and you always blacked out during the night (He does too but he won't admit it). But the one thing both of you had in common was the touchyness. It wasn't like you two were not always touching when you were sober, it was just that wine drunk Charlie and you took it to a whole other level. By the time you were on your third glass, you wondered if Charlie even ordered the food.
“Could I have this dance with you ma lady?” Charlie held out his hand and bowled a little. You put down your now fifth glass of wine and stood up, taking his hand in yours.
“Oh, yes of course.” This dance was different from the dance you had a couple of nights ago. It was more of a makeout session than a dance. At some point he picked you up, so your legs were wrapped around his torso, yet he still swayed to the non existing music.
“I love you.” You murmured against his lips.
“I love you more.” he said and pulled away slightly.
“No way that's possible.”
“Oh really?” he raised his eyebrow.
“Marry me then.” he whispered looking you in the eyes with a spark in his.
“Yes! I do!” You slurred and kissed him harshly. A smile spreading on both of your lips.
You woke up the next morning with an aching headache and practically no memory of the evening before. You turned over to see Charlie sleeping next to you. You slowly traced the outline of his face. He opened his eyes and smiled at you.
“Hi” he croaked out in his morning voice that still made butterflies rise in your stomach. “Hey. How much do you remember?” You asked him sheepishly. He pulled you in with his arms, hiding his face in the crook of your neck.
“Not much to be honest and i'm guessing you don’t either?” You only shook your head.
“I remember that our food somehow didn't arrive.”
Next time Charlie should really read the text of the restaurant he orders from, because there was a perfectly cooked meal waiting in front of your door.
4
Charlie missed his best friend and you knew this. So you arranged a little get together with Owen and Jeremy at Owen’s new apartment. Your plan was to drive down from Canada, make a quick weekend stop at Owens and then make your way to your apartment in LA.
Currently it was a monday morning and you were still at Owens. His guest bed was just so comfortable it was harder than normal to get out of bed. On this particular morning, you woke up to an empty side of the bed and some talking from the living room.
Lazily, you put on one of Charlie's hoodies, some cozy socks and a beany. You shuffled to the living room where you assumed the boys would be sitting, not realising that you interrupted a conversation.
“I don't know man. Everytime I have something planned it goes wrong.”
“Look Char, In my experience the chance will… morning y/n.” Jeremy was quick to notice your figure shuffling towards them, your eyes scanning your phone. The boys tensed up and quickly tried to do a normal activity.
“Morning everybody.” You smiled at them. “Am I the last to be up?” you asked and only got noods in return. Still too sleepy to notice the atmosphere, you made your way over to your boyfriend, who was standing at the kitchen aisle, wrapping your arms around him from behind and nuzzling your head into his back. Your hands instantly go under his hoodie and on his bare skin to warm your hands.
“Kofe…” you mumbled into his back, barely audible.
“What?” Owen asked, confused while he sat on the kitchen counter, eating a toast.
“She wants some coffee.” Your boyfriend translated with a smile.
“Oh.. I just used the last capsule... I’m so sorry” Jeremy apologized and offered you the last sip of his cup of coffee.
“I’m fine, I'll survive thank you though Jer.” You yawned, releasing yourself from cuddling Charlie, knowing you're not gonna be fully awake without a cup of coffee. Your boyfriend also knew this and eyed you closely, then he leaned over to whisper in your ear that he's gonna get you a coffee after his workout. He looked at you lovingly and pressed a kiss to your temple.
“Jesus Christ man, you're whipped. Just ask her.” Owen said while rolling his eyes. The second the last words left his lips all the boys looked at eachother with wide eyes. Owen went to cover his mouth with his hands.
“Ask me what?” You asked in a soft tone and turned to your boyfriend who had a really panicked look on his face.
“I- I-uhm…” he stuttered, fiddling with his fingers.
“Charlie here wanted to ask you if you would mind staying one more day.” Jeremy came to the rescue and sent Owen a mad look, while he pulled one of his arms over Charlie's shoulder, who gave him a thankful nudge.
Your face softened “Of course bubby! If it's okay with Owen it's okay with me, we have no hurry to head to LA. I love spending time here. Gotta teach Owen a few tips and tricks of living alone.” you sent a wink in the blonde boys direction.

At this point Charlie nearly gave up on asking you to marry him, maybe it was a sign from the universe that the two of you weren’t ready for that commitment yet. You were both still so young and just started with your careers.
He looked over at your mess of curls that spread all over the pillow case. The peaceful up and down from your chest and the small smile on your slightly opened lips as you slept. He had to ask you to marry him, there was no way he wouldn't.
The sunlight peeked through the curtains and illuminated the bedroom on this sunday morning in a pretty yellow. You opened your eyes as you heard something shift beside you.
“Where are you going?” You asked, squinting your eyes that still needed to get used to the light.
“Just for a walk baby. Go back to sleep.” He pushed some hairs back that touched your face. Pouting, you put your much smaller hand on his hand that laid on your face.
“Noo. Don't go. Come back to bed.” you whined, leaving kisses on his hand. He sat there for a while, contemplating if he could say no to your face. In the end he sighed and you felt the mattress next to you go down.
“Thank you for staying.” you whispered and pulled him closer, letting your head rest on his chest. His arms wrapped around you and he shifted in a comfortable position, so that you were basically laying on top of him. With the tip of your fingers you drew little constellations on his chest and he played with the strands of your hair.
“Charlie?” You broke the silence and went to look at his face, propping your chin on your hand.
“What's on your pretty mind?”
“When will you ask me to marry you? Or should I ask you?” You finally asked the questions that have been running through your mind for months now.
He stopped breathing for a second, stunned at your declaration. A wide smile broke out on his lips and he started laughing. You furrowed your eyebrows in confusion.
“Is that such a funny concept?” You asked, slightly hurt. “I thought you wanted to do it in Hawaii but then you were sick and I also heard you and the boys talking about something. Plus I found the ring.” you admitted.
Charlie shifted again so you were both sitting up and facing each other. “You found the ring?” he asked quietly.
“Yeah I put some of your stuff into the drawer and it fell out. I didn't look at it though! I still wanted that part to be a surprise. But you never asked, so im gonna do it, fuck the gender norms. Charlie Jeffrey Gillespie will you...”
“Oh my god. Baby no.” he chuckled and cupped your face, making you stop in the middle of the sentence. “I had so many different ideas planned but something always came in between me actually asking you. So let me do it right.”
He got up from the bed and pulled out the little black box from one of the drawers in your bedroom.
“Uhm… could you maybe stand up?”
You obliged eagerly, your hands shaking like crazy.
And then it was finally happening. Your boyfriend got down on one knee and looked up at you with tears in his eyes.
“This wasn't at all how I originally wanted to do it but now thinking about it, it's just perfect. I knew pretty early on that you were gonna be the girl I marry one day. I know we’re both still very young but I couldn't imagine myself spending my life with anybody else other than you. You're the person I want to wake up next to every morning and the person I miss the most when I’m away. So would you do me the honours and make me the happiest man alive by marrying me?” he took out the ring with shaking hands, while you tried to stop the sobbing. You got on your knees as well and cupped his face, whipping away some tears.
“Yes! One million times yes!” You kissed him softly, afraid that this was all a dream. Charlie pushed the ring on your finger and lifted you up, kissing you again and again with a tear soaked face and a smile that hurt his cheeks.

Disclaimer: there’s a flashback montage thingy in this chapter, and it’s written in italics. once the italics are done, the flashback is done, i really hope it’s not too confusing because i really like it:)
Word Count: ~1.2k
Warning: like one curse word, slight mentions of smut if you really squint, angst
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The next day you arrived to set with your eyes red and puffy, which you hid with big sunglasses. You went straight into hair and makeup, who did an excellent job at getting you to look as good as any other day, and didn't ask any questions as to the cause of your poor state, which you silently appreciated.
Apparently, some things really couldn't be covered by makeup though.
"You alright?" David asked upon seeing you.
"Yeah," you answered airily, taking a sip from your paper cup. "How about you?"
"I'm okay, but are you sure you are? I saw the article yesterday, and I know your boyfriend m-"
"Look, we were keeping it quiet for a reason," you cut him off. "He can deal with it. Or so I thought," you added in a low mumble that didn't escape David's ears.
"What's that supposed to mean?"
"We had… a fight. Look, it's nothing, I'd really rather we don’t talk about and just-" you shrugged off your jacket, "Let's just do our jobs, okay?"
"Okay," he nodded. Before you had the opportunity to say anything, he pulled you in for a tight hug. You were too upset to push him away, and you received his comfort gratefully.
"Okay," you let out a breath and put on a smile. "So, what are we doing today?"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You parked your car in the parking lot close to your friend's house, which you supposed was your temporary house for now. Leaving the car, you were just locking the doors when you heard a familiar voice calling your name.
"Hey," Chris breathed, quickly catching up to you. Which wasn't hard, considering you were pretty much rooted into your spot with shock, rapidly turning into anger.
"What the fuck?" you said. That was the most your brain could come up with right now.
"I was just… look, I just wanted to-"
"Oh, that's not what I wanna know. Why are you here? As in, next to my friend's apartment whose address I never gave you, nor the permission to come by?"
"I asked around an-"
"You know what, save it," you cut him off impatiently, "The point is, go away. Now."
"Please just listen to me, sweetheart," he grabbed onto your wrist and you quickly shook free from his grip.
"No," you shook your head and turned your back on him, starting to walk away in the direction of the building.
"Oh come on! Don't be like that! After all we've been through, you're gonna let this be the final straw?" he yelled, walking quickly after you.
"See, that's exactly my problem with you, Chris," you turned around, fuming, "You talk a big game about how we've been through so much together, yet the minute you don't like one of my friends, you push me away and say I'm a cheater!" you struggled to keep your voice level, not wanting to cause a scene yet unable to stop your frustration from seeping into your tone.
"That's not how it was, I swear that's not what I m-"
"Yes, that is how it was!" you were fighting the urge to physically slap him. "My god, Chris, grow up already! You can't have your cake and eat it too!"
"I don't want anything, I just want to explain–" he fumbled over his words for a second, his mouth opening and closing, "I just want you."
Before you could register his words, his lips were on yours, softly moving against you, hands cupping your face. And you couldn't help your muscle memory, you couldn't help –
You were laying on the bed in your pajamas, which were really just one of Chris' shirts, scrolling on your phone, when you heard soft footsteps from the hallway. You smiled to yourself before closing your phone, turning around just in time to see Chris coming into the bedroom, sweatpants on but shirtless. He smiled before coming to hover over you, softly bringing his lips to yours before traveling south, peppering kisses onto your jaw, neck, and collarbone. You tilted your head back to grant him better access. Your lips parted in a soft gasp as he brushed over a particular spot, and your fingers tangled in his hair, tugging slightly.
You were also out in the yard, playing with Dodger, laying on the grass to enjoy the last days before winter comes, but apparently winter was very impatient. Suddenly, drops of rain were coming down on you, causing you to blink in surprise. It was getting increasingly stronger, Dodger running around trying to catch the water with his mouth while you and Chris laughed in surprise. You looked over at him, smiling, and he pulled you into his arms, kissing you in the rain.
You were looking at groceries in the shop when he came and wrapped his arms around you, leaning his broad chest against your back as you tilted your head back to peck his lips.
You were dancing at a friend's wedding, laughing breathlessly as he spun you around, his eyes twinkling and the edges of his mouth pulled up in a smile before bringing you close, pressing a kiss onto your smiling lips.
You were pouting after an argument when he bent down to kiss your lips, knowing you both already forgave each other.
And then you were there – that night.
You were just about to give up and go home, your friends could do well enough on their own. The bar was dimly lit, and any other day that might've been mysterious or fun, but today it just made you want to fall asleep even harder than you already did. You were just about to make some excuse about needing to work tomorrow and leave, when you saw him.
He was sitting a few tables away from you, a baseball cap sitting fairly low on his face, his flannel-clad body slumped over the table as he took a swig of his beer. His eyes didn't leave yours, and a slight smile was playing on his lips as he gave you a slight wave. You were sure you didn't know him, but you smiled and hesitantly waved back.
He motioned towards the bar and you got up, making your way towards the bar and sitting down on one of the stools until he got there as well.
"Do you wanna get a drink? On me," he smiled. Up close, you could see his blue eyes glinting in the low light.
"Sure, but… do I know you? You just, you waved at me back there and I-"
"Oh no," he laughed, "No, if I knew you, I'm sure I'd remember it. I just thought you were looking a little miserable, so…"
You chuckled. "Thank you, stranger."
You talked for what could've been minutes or hours, you weren't sure. At the end of the night, you exchanged numbers, and when he walked away you had to stop a dreamy, schoolgirl-like sigh from falling past your lips. He was perfect.
But he wasn't. That illusion, along with your relationship, crumbled down in front of you yesterday.
You vowed you were done with him, yet you couldn't help but kiss him back, your tongues clashing in an all-too-familiar dance. Your heartbeat was pounding in your ears as you forced yourself to break away from him, opening your eyes. Panting, you stared at him, your mouth opening, then you closed it and swallowed heavily before opening it then.
You didn't know what you wanted to say. He opened his mouth and then closed it again, running his tongue across his bottom lip.
You didn't know what you wanted him to say either.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
okay, so maybe i ended it on a bit of a cliffhanger... sorry not sorry;) would you like to see reader and chris get back together or do we want an ultimately angsty ending? i would LOVE to hear your thoughts!!
The Warmest Thing I Own
Feeling good enough for the time being to attempt herding Mulder in a grocery store ...
Our Moments: Chapter 1: Five Words (post-Leonard Betts) Chapter 2: Sidebar Nonsense (post-Memento Mori) Chapter 3: Interim (floating somewhere around Unrequited) Chapter 4: Max 2.0 (post-Tempus Fugit/Max) Chapter 5: Shadowed Grey Eyes Chapter 6: The Warmest Thing I Own @today-in-fic
&&&&&&&&&&
The following morning, she woke him up, stretching beside him, humming as her muscles flexed and moved, liquid twist of spine and limb. He felt her and opened his eyes, finding the room grey but light, “what time is it?”
Her voice scratched out an, ‘I don’t care’ before burying her head back in the pillow.
“Are we not caring today? ‘Cause I can get behind not caring today.” Reaching out to poke her side, “how are you feeling?”
Rolling in his direction, she gave him a smile that could have lit the city had she come with plug and adaptor, “I actually feel okay. I don’t think I’ve slept like that in weeks.”
“No nightmares?”
“No. Only dreams of farmhouses and men in kilts.”
Mulder laughed, “more than one?”
“Maybe.” Sighing deep, “it’s Saturday, right? Now, I know we’d normally share the worry today but I think I’d rather ignore it completely and go grocery shopping and maybe make dinner and eat a gallon of ice cream.”
“It’s actually Friday but I’m good with all that anyway.” Finally able to see the clock on her nightstand, “it’s 8:27 so I vote you call Skinner while I go shower, then we commence.”
Booping his nose, “you’ve got five minutes or I’m coming in.”
Good God.
He knew she was joking. Had to be joking. But he found himself washing a little slower than usual, wanted to see what she would do at the five-minute mark.
She stood outside the bathroom door at 4 minute, 45 seconds, hand on knob. She felt giddy and free and happy and relatively well and the thought of opening the door made her stomach tighten but would it be all kinds of stupid?
Five minutes.
She felt her hand turning the damn handle.
Just as Mulder pulled the door open.
She stumbled forward into wet flesh, towel around waist holding fast as Mulder took a step back, catching her in his arms, “hi there.”
Both knew she had been opening the door.
“Hi.”
“Almost didn’t make it.” Eyes sparking down at her, given he now knew she had been opening the door, “damn slow water heater.”
She was red.
It amused him.
“Were you coming in for something?”
Something, at the moment, in her mind, was removing his towel and taking him back into the shower but instead, she pointed around him, “toothbrush.”
His grin made her shake her head, slip under his arm, brush her teeth, and keep taking deep breaths.
They were both crazy.
&&&&&&&&&&&
Grocery shopping with Mulder was akin to herding cats. She looked left at something, he threw three things from the right into the cart. She questioned two of them and winning, turned right to replace them on the shelf while Mulder, pouting, turned left, tossing in two other things, plus a box of Twinkies.
Finally, she threated to make him sit in the cart and while he looked her square in the eye, evaluating life and limb, he reached up, tipping a box of CocoPuffs from the top shelf into the cart, never breaking eye contact.
By the end, they had at least remembered the juice boxes.
Steaks were the order of the day, Mulder waving away her cheap-ass $6.00 on sale frugal fingers in favor of the New York strips, thick, red, mouth-watering, and definitely not $6.00. Mistaking her longing look for hunger, he gently turned her away, “we need to cook them first.”
Swallowing, “I know.”
Mashed potatoes followed, “yes, I’m getting the box of potato flakes because real potatoes are too damn much work.”
“Fine by me.” Then came the three pounds of mushrooms, “who the hell is washing all these dishes?”
Mulder smiled, tossing a bulb of garlic in the cart, “dishwasher. You have one but you never use it. I’ll teach you how tonight.”
She just kept stealing glances at the steaks.
Ice cream came last, small tubs of chocolate, cherry, orange sherbet, mint, dark fudge, and peanut butter swirl, “I like variety. Don’t look at me like that.”
“I’m just wondering if either of us will be able to fit through the front door by the time we’re done.”
“You could stand to gain twenty pounds.”
He hadn’t meant to say it out loud, bring reality into their fun but glancing at her, he saw understanding in her eyes, her hand finding its way into his for a moment, “I’d rather not do it all in one night, if that’s okay?”
She got a long hug for that, shoppers steering around the odd couple embracing in the freezer section but smiling at them regardless because, really, there’s nothing wrong with a little love in frozen foods.
Mulder paid the bill and Scully didn’t fight it, especially after she saw the amount of items he’d stashed in the basket under her radar, “how did I not see any of this?”
“Once you caught sight of the steaks, I could have jammed an elephant in here and you’d have never noticed.” Handing the cashier his credit card, “little woman’s got an appetite.”
Swatting him on the arm, “Mulder! Did you see how many things of ice cream you got? I don’t know how we’re going to fit all that in the freezer.”
The cashier grinned, handing him his card back, “you can always buy her a bigger freezer.”
“This is very true. Freezer shopping next.”
Scully gave up, “that’ll be tomorrow’s trip. We’ll just have to eat all this tonight.”
“Challenge accepted.”
&&&&&&&&&&&
Back at the apartment, groceries spread from one end of the counter to the other, Scully was mid-ice cream put away when she stopped, hand shaking, head spinning. After a second, she turned to Mulder, his back to her, “I’m, um, if you don’t mind, I’m going to go lay down.” Her hand was already rubbing her forehead, “are you okay putting everything away?”
Turning, his stomach sank at how pasty pale she’d become in the last two minutes, “yeah. I’m fine. Go take a nap.”
She was already moving, one hand on the wall of the hall to steady herself as she headed to the bedroom. Once alone, he slowly, methodically, put the groceries in their proper places, shutting cupboards quietly, trying not to rattle pasta or click jars. Five minutes and a fully stocked kitchen later, he realized it was only a little after one. She’d made it four hours. It had been a good four hours but …
If he dwelled on that, he’d scream at the top of his lungs, cursing the sky, fist shaking in the air. Instead, he pulled the mushrooms back out, deciding some manual cooking labor would keep his mind occupied.
That and trying not to cut the tips of his fingers off.
Three pounds of mushrooms, a stick of butter, six cloves of garlic, a teaspoon of salt, and ½ that of pepper later, and small, diced onion to boot, he set her crockpot to warm, snapped the lid tight, and wondered what next.
Sheets.
Put the sheets in the dryer.
Checking that the stains were gone, he hit the button to set the machine humming.
Clean up.
Last night’s Chinese cartons and chopsticks were still on the coffee table. Trash. Check.
Take out the trash. It smelled. He killed five minutes tying the bag, walking it to the garbage chute. Coming back inside and locking the door.
Then he stood there. Tight circle rotating, trying to find something else.
He knew what he wanted to do but felt he shouldn’t. She was fine. She would yell for him if need be.
Bu something kept pulling him in the direction of her bedroom.
“Fuck it.”
He made his way to her door to find her curled on the bed, small lump under thick covers. Stealing to the other side, he carefully lay down, sliding under the quilt in silence. If she wanted to, she could hit him later for arriving in her bed unannounced.
He would love it if she had the strength to hit him hard enough for it to make an impact.
Then again, she’d hit him before and it never made an impact.
It mostly just made him more stubborn and annoying.
He couldn’t help a small smile as he thought about how irritating he could be but she just kept coming back anyways.
She’d come back from this, too. She had to.
She had no choice.
He could see the tension in her face, even while asleep, forehead wrinkled, eyebrows tight. Reaching out, he began massaging between her eyes, imaging that fucking tumor only an inch below his thumb. How the hell could they not take the damn thing out? It was right there.
Right.
There.
Another thought he had to banish from his mind or screaming would ensue, he kept rubbing, watching her face slowly relax, pinched look disappearing, “mmmhmm.”
Soft sound in the back of her throat told him to keep going, small circles, occasionally venturing to the round bones surrounding her eyes, the bridge of her nose, up to her hairline. Another ‘hhmmmm’ later, then a deep sigh, she rolled to her back, making his task a little harder, arms more awkward in their reach.
Shifting slightly, arm now across her chest, he continued. Feeling himself drifting off, his thumb movements lighter and slower, he felt her turn her head, face him, “Mulder?”
“Hi.” Rolling towards him once again, her hands slipped under his arm and one palm to his face, she moved forward, kissing him. Shocked, he pulled back after a moment, “are you awake or asleep?”
He saw her suddenly blink, head shake, both signs she was just waking up, “what? Mulder?”
Knowing she didn’t recall anything because there was no embarrassment turning her red, no heat in her cheeks, eyes innocently confused, “nothing. You said something and I thought … I just wasn’t sure if you were awake. Go back to sleep.”
Caught in limbo of dreams and Mulder, she didn’t care, and scooted closer, into his arms, “you are the warmest thing I own.” Snuggling into him, about as up close and personal as they could get fully clothed on a Friday afternoon, “I like it.”
She so totally did own him and he would be perfectly fine declaring that by billboard, sky writer, or booming voice from the sky. Lips to her forehead, he left them there as he agreed, “I do, too.”
Love, just maybe
Tumblr media
requested by anon: Hi! Can you please write a Yeosang fic where he's in a wheelchair and a caretaker is hired to look after him and he falls in love with her? Thank you!!
a/n: in case anyone spots any medical inaccuracies and/or language I shouldn’t be using, please let me know so I can fix that!! thank u, enjoy <3
pairing: Yeosang x caretaker!f!reader
genre: fluff, very slight angst
word count: 2453
warnings: non-idol AU, mentions of disability and wheelchairs, mentions of driving, mentions of car crashes, brief mentions of food, Wooyoung unintentionally becomes the wingman of the year with someone else’s help lol
-----
You were not the slightest bit sure of how to feel about the situation, tapping your fingers against your steering wheel anxiously while you impatiently waited for traffic to clear up.
A man by the name of Jung Wooyoung had contacted you earlier this week, explaining that his friend Yeosang was in need of a caretaker but stubbornly refused to look into hiring one himself.
You had taken the “offer” without much thinking (it was more of a desperate request although Wooyoung would never admit this), especially since Yeosang was supposedly around your age and it’d make bonding with him easier, but now that you sat here in your car you weren’t all that confident anymore.
It seemed you weren’t allowed to dwell on this any longer, however, since you finally saw traffic clear up and were able to continue your way to your destination, namely Yeosang’s house.
You glanced at your duffle bag on the passenger seat, mentally checking if you’ve got everything - since you were a live-in caretaker, it meant you’d be staying for a while - more precisely, until your client decided they no longer required or wanted your assistance. It didn’t take you much longer to pull into the driveway of Yeosang’s house, which turned out to be a small townhouse in the outskirts of the city.
You climbed out of your car after taking a deep breath to calm your nerves
To your surprise, you found an abundance of flowers blooming in the frontyard. You also spotted a set of swings a little further back, curious to find out the reasoning for the presence of both of these things since you knew Yeosang had been a wheelchair user for quite some time and most likely didn’t take care of his garden or constructed those swings himself.
You weren’t any less startled when you rang the doorbell, only for a little girl who you assumed to be around 11 years old to open the door and greet you with a bright smile, “Hi there, ma’am! Are you here to visit uncle Sang?”
You quirked a brow at the words ‘uncle Sang,’ crouching down to be eye level with the girl before nodding at her, “Something like that, yeah. Could you go and get him for me?”
“Mhm! Just give me a minute~” She giggled as she ran off back into the house, returning shortly after with Yeosang following behind her. He was pretty good-looking, you had to admit. His messy blonde hair framed his face perfectly, and you wondered if it was as fluffy as it looked-
“Miss?” It was the girl’s voice that broke you out of your thoughts, her head tilted to the side inquisitively as she looked at you, “Are you okay?”
“Hm~? Yeah I’m fine, don’t worry.” You gave her a smile to reassure her, one she promptly reciprocated before turning to Yeosang when he gently placed his hand on her shoulder.
“It’s getting late, Minji.” He spoke softly, “You should get home, I bet your little brother and your parents wanna hear all about what we did today~”
She whined as he playfully ruffled her hair, nodding at him in understanding, “Fine~ See you tomorrow, uncle Sang! Bye bye, nice lady~!”
You found it adorable how she addressed you before she gave both you and Yeosang each a small hug before skipping off, presumably back to her own house.
Yeosang watched her with a smile until neither of you could see her anymore, the male clearing his throat awkwardly while his eyes inspected the bag in your hand.
He motioned you to follow him after another beat as he carefully pushed his wheelchair backwards and further into the house, stepping inside and closing the door behind yourself afterwards.
“I know why you’re here, since Wooyoung can’t keep his mouth shut,” Yeosang finally spoke, and it was as if the weight of your nervousness physically dropped from your shoulders, “and I imagine that you know why I’m not all too pleased about it.”
There was no disdain whatsoever towards you in his tone, only exasperation about the fact that his best friend had gone against his wishes.
He took a deep breath to calm himself before continuing, “As I’m sure you’re aware, I dislike having other people do things for me. I grew up being independent from others so this... circumstance isn’t exactly a fortunate one. If you can prove within, let’s say... a week that you genuinely care for more than the money that’s in it for you for doing this, I’ll let you stay even longer.”
It was a fair agreement - if Yeosang was to have a caretaker despite being highly apprehensive about the idea, the least he could make clear is that he didn’t want anyone who’d do a half-assed job and only pretend to care about him.
“We’ve got a deal.” You stated firmly in response, placing your bag on the floor next to you and extending a hand for the blonde to shake. He appeared to hesitate for a split second before shaking your hand with a nod, and you could’ve sworn you his lips twitch into the faintest bit of a smile.
“Lovely. Since I know you’ll need the knowledge, I figured I should tell you where all the rooms are.” He gestured for you to follow, watching him manage to turn himself around before picking up your bag again and letting him lead the way for you.
It was a pretty spacious living space for a single person, though given the circumstances, you weren’t particularly surprised about it.
“Let’s see... My bedroom is down the hall, and so is my bathroom. Minji’s room, the guest room you’ll be staying in and the guest bathroom are upstairs. And the kitchen, living room and dining room are, as you can surely tell, all connected.”
“Got it.”
Yeosang cleared his throat, and you subconsciously straightened your posture a little. “Now,” he said, “you should know that I tend to go to sleep really early, so I suppose this is what I will go ahead and do now. You can explore a little more if you want, but you should get rest as well since you officially start working tomorrow.”
“Are you sure you won’t need my help tonight...?” You inquired tentatively, not wanting to overstep any kind of boundary, and Yeosang seemed hesitant to answer before nodding firmly. “Thank you... but I’ll manage.” He finally said, “Good night, Y/n.”
You shouldn’t have been as stunned by his use of your name as you were, yet there you stood, watching him make his way down the hallway before disappearing into his bedroom. You turned on your heel, deciding that exploring could wait in favor of making yourself at home in ‘your’ room.
You skipped up the stairs, your bag swung over your shoulder, and were quick to find the bedroom you’d be staying in. Minji’s room was decorated overly cutely, while yours looked... lived in. You made a mental note to make sure to ask Yeosang about this.
And sure enough, prove yourself like he challenged you to do was exactly what you did.
Finding out the time Yeosang would usually wake up, you made it your goal to always get up before him to cook a healthy breakfast for him and prepare clothes for him to wear. He was initially reluctant to let you help with the latter, although it didn’t take him long to admit that he both needed and appreciated your assistance with things he wasn’t able to do by himself. Yeosang blushed profusely whenever he asked you to help him in bathroom, be it to empty his bladder or to wash himself, but he did catch himself warming up to you faster than he’d like anyone to know.
He admired the care you put into helping him even with arguably straining tasks like changing positions into a chair, for example, even though he was capable of doing so with minimal help. He took to either reading or playing the violin whenever you left the house to run errands like grocery shopping, and he couldn’t help but let his mind drift to you.
He had once been so distracted by his own thoughts that you had caught him playing a gentle piece on his instrument of choice, and he mentally scolded himself for the rest of that day for allowing it to come to such an embarrassment.
You, however, were absolutely endeared. Both by the fact that he was able to play an instrument as beautiful as the violin, and by the observation you’ve made that he seemed to have quite a big soft spot for Minji.
Speaking of the young girl, you grew closer to her as well - she even began calling you “aunt Y/n” after a few visits, and you could’ve sworn that her cuteness had melted you right where you stood.
It didn’t go unnoticed by Yeosang either, and it had him constantly repeating the two words in his head. He refused to admit it aloud, but he knew that what had his mind racing was the thought of a possible relationship with you that’d go beyond simply caring for him.
Similarly, you found yourself thinking about what it might actually be like to care for a child together with the blonde but snapped out of it before you allowed yourself to take your thoughts to a level that exceeded the professional one you should’ve been keeping it at.
It was Yeosang who finally broke the splintering ice between the two of you after approximately three and a half weeks of you living with him while you two were sitting on the terrace that overlooked his garden, enjoying a comfortable evening together, and you couldn’t help but tense a little from his words, “You know,” he began, “I feel like you deserve some answers to the questions I know you have but are too hesitant to ask.”
You felt your cheeks warm, he couldn’t have been any more correct with his observation.
“Let’s see - your room looked so... used, if you will, because it’s the room Wooyoung previously stayed in before he was forced to move away for work and consequently hired you to take care of me. As for Minji, her parents are away a lot so that’s why she comes over almost every day. Wooyoung and her parents constructed those swings for her when she started visiting me more frequently, and Minji’s friends are the ones taking care of the garden together with her. Y’know, since I can’t for obvious reasons.”
You nodded thoughtfully in response, somewhat overwhelmed by the amount of information you were being given but still grateful for Yeosang’s willingness to be this open with you.
“It’s been almost a year since the accident that caused me to be as I am now, in a wheelchair and codependent due to paraplegia. I will be honest, I neither know nor care to find out why that other guy rammed my car with his... I just know that we wouldn’t be sitting here having this conversation if he didn’t and I don’t think I’ll ever forgive him for putting me in this situation, in this dilemma of being unable to move or even just feel my lower half.”
“That’s understandable... I can only imagine how much it ruined your life, not to mention the emotional trauma that must’ve come with the accident.” You replied softly, trying to be careful with your words as Yeosang nodded in agreement, “Yeah, I haven’t sat in a car again ever since it happened. And I don’t really like talking about it, admittedly...”
You tilted your head at him in question while he trailed off, “I don’t mean to offend, but if that’s the case... Why are you telling me?”
“I can’t blame you for being confused about it, and I’ll be happy to explain my reasoning behind this. Truth is, I like you. In a more than ‘you care for me so I act nice around you’ way, in a... ‘I want to get closer to you’ kind of way.”
You couldn’t help but quirk an eyebrow at Yeosang’s roundabout way of confessing to you, “Are you saying... you have a crush on me?”
“I- well, yeah. That’s what I’m trying to say.” Yeosang nodded shyly at your tentative question, a hum sounding in your throat in response before he continued, nervously fidgeting with his hands a little. “Listen, I just... I think I could fall in love with you. I want to ask you to permanently move in with me, because I most definitely will never get sick of you. Of course you don’t have to accept, if you don’t want to or just don’t feel the same way...”
He trailed off, not even realizing how distracted he was by the way the light of the setting sun illuminated your face until he heard you giggle softly. Yeosang blushed when he noticed that you had, rather boldly, moved your chair closer to him and were now stroking his hair absentmindedly. He found it pathetic how easily the simple gesture flustered him, not dwelling on it any longer while you spoke, “It’s funny that you bring this up, honestly... Because I happen to feel the exact same way. And maybe, just maybe, I could also see myself falling in love with you in the future. With all of you.”
“All of me?” Yeosang echoed tentatively, “Are you sure..?”
You nodded a little more enthusiastically than intended, although that was presently the least of your concerns, “I’m sure. What kind of person would I be if I rejected you purely because of something that’s out of your control?”
Yeosang felt a grin tug at his lips at the double meaning of your statement, although he found himself fumbling a little over his words. “Touché. So... what now? Is this the part where I ask you to be my girlfriend?”
“It is, and it’s also the part where I answer that question with a ‘yes’~”
Yeosang beamed at you, truly delighted that you were willing to give him a chance to be yours. Little did you know though that, as the two of you continued to talk until late in the night about everything under the sun, there was a certain young girl watching you both from where she sat at her window in the neighboring house with a small dreamy sigh before suddenly jumping up and making a run for it down the stairs.
“Mom, can you give me the phone for a sec? I wanna tell uncle Woo that my matchmaking plan worked~!”
Chapter 1   Chapter 2  Chapter 3 (?)
Ava had gone to bed without any complaint the night before. Spending all day at the zoo and getting ice cream had worn her out. After she went to bed you’d had time to sit and think about what Andy had said. You knew he was probably right about you ex, you were just scared to further set him off. Up to this point, he’d pretty much left you alone. You worried that if you pressed the issue, he’d make trouble for you or worse, for Ava.
You also had to admit that you’d very much enjoyed spending the day with Andy. He was easy to talk to and fun to be around. He was an amazing dad to Jacob and was sweet in his interactions with Ava. While you definitely enjoyed his company, you were still unsure whether or not he would be interested in anything other than just being friends, and if he was, was dating the father of one of your student’s a good idea?
With everything running through your head, you didn’t get much sleep. You dragged yourself out of bed when you heard Ava get up, slowly making your way to the kitchen. She was already on the couch watching cartoons, so you decided to take advantage and start the coffee before getting her some breakfast.
After your coffee was ready, you poured yourself a cup and then set to making Ava some French Toast and Scrambled eggs. While you were cooking, you heard your phone ping with new messages but decided they could wait, assuming it was just your ex again.
“Ava, come eat breakfast,” You called her once the food was done. “You have to eat and get ready, Papa will be picking you up soon.”
“Yay! I can’t wait to tell Papa about the zoo! And Jacob and his daddy!” She said excitedly. She came in and sat down at the counter and started eating her breakfast.
“I’m sure he’ll love to hear all about the zoo, Monkey.” You confirmed. And later, you were sure to get the third degree about Andy and Jacob. Sometimes you wished your brother and sister in law lived closer so that your parents could fuss over them once in a while.
“Mommy?” Ave asked, swallowing a mouthful of her French toast, “When can I see Jacob and his daddy again?”
“I don’t know, Babygirl” You replied, “I’m glad you had fun with them though.”
“I did!” She said, “I wish Jacob was my brother. Katie, at school, always talks about her brother and they do fun stuff together.”
You weren’t entirely sure how to respond to that. Your heart broke that she didn’t have a sibling. You knew how nice it was growing up with your own brother. Ava didn’t even have cousins that lived close. Thankfully, your dad arrived, which saved you from having to come up with a response.
“Good morning, Sweetheart.” Your dad said, entering the kitchen, “Morning, Ava Bug! Are you ready to go out on the boat?”
“Yup!” She said, happily, “I’m ready!”
“Go grab your jacket and put your shoes on, Monkey.” You instructed her.
While Ava got her jacket and shoes on, you placed her plate in the dishwasher and wiped down the counter.
“What are your plans today?” Your dad asked.
“I’m going to go get groceries and then come back and get some stuff done around the house.” You replied, “I’ve got some grading I should catch up too.”
“Try to do something that’s just for you, Sweetheart,” He said, hugging you, “It’s ok, to do things for yourself too, doesn’t make you a bad mom, teacher, or daughter.”
“Thanks, Dad.” You replied smiling, “I will try to squeeze some me time in there as well.”
“We’re happy to keep Ava Bug overnight, if you want to get out with other adults and paint the town red.”
“I’m not in my twenties anymore dad” You laughed, “No need to go out drinking or partying with friends. The recovery takes too long now.”
“The offer still stands” He insisted, “Being the only grandchild in the state, we’re more than happy to spoil her.”
“She’s more than happy to let you!” You said, shaking your head.
Ava came bounding back into the room, declaring she was ready and all but dragged your dad out the door. After quick hugs and a reminder to her to listen, they were off for their adventure.
Once they were out the door, you grabbed your phone to look at the missed text messages and phone calls.
You read through the texts, seeing that they were all from your ex. You were starting to get worried with the increase in calls and texts from him. He was clearly escalating. You took a deep breath to calm your nerves.
You decided to go get dressed and try to clear your head before making a decision on what to do about the texts and calls. You’d promised Andy you’d think about taking actions to get your ex to stop harassing you, and you had to admit he was probably right.
By the time you got dressed and brushed through your hair, you’d made the decision to go about your day as planned, and you would reach out to Andy in an email on Monday.
You grabbed your car keys and purse, tucking your phone in your pocket and made your way out to your car. You blasted your upbeat playlist, hoping it would work to calm the remaining nerves before you got to the grocery store.
You were able to get the shopping done in record time without having to negotiate all the treats with Ava. You had a feeling she’d make a great lawyer someday. With the shopping done, you decided to reward yourself and grab a coffee from the small coffee shop around the corner from the grocery store.
As you stood in line, you heard your phone ding several times, alerting you to new messages. You pulled your phone out to check, and felt your anxiety increase again. You sent a text back asking to be left alone, knowing he’d ignore it.
“Fancy running into you here” A voice sounded behind you, startling you and causing you to flinch. “Woah, Brielle, are you ok?”
Finally recognizing the voice, you turned around, taking a deep breath and trying to calm your racing heart.
“Andy,” You replied, quietly, “Yeah, I’m fine. Sorry about that, I wasn’t paying attention so missed when you came in.”
“You do realize I’m a lawyer, and can see right through that right?” He said gently, “You’re showing all the classic signs of distress. How about you have a seat while I get us coffees and then you can tell me what’s causing that distress.”
“I appreciate the offer,” You replied, “I have groceries in the car though, and wasn’t planning on staying.”
“I don’t think driving when you’re upset is a great idea either,” He reasoned, “It’s cool enough, the groceries should be fine while you have one cup of coffee.”
“Ok,” You smiled, softly, “You’re pretty good at bargaining.”
“Professional hazard” he joked, “What would you like? And before you argue, I’m buying the coffee and you’re going to sit and breathe.”
“Yes, Sir,” you smiled, “Mocha Latte, please.”
“Coming right up” He said, smiling warmly, “Grab us a table.”
You quickly found a table in one of the corners, figuring Andy would be grilling you over why you were upset, you didn’t want the rest of the cafe to hear the conversation.
Andy set your coffee down in front of you and took a seat in the chair next to you.
“Thank you” You said, placing your hands around the warm up.
“You’re welcome” He replied, “How many more messages have you gotten from him?”
“Today? Or since you read the messages yesterday?” You asked to clarify, but mostly to stall.
“Sweetheart, if you have to ask that, it’s time to put a stop to it.” He said gently. Your heart fluttered at the endearment.
“I’ve gotten 9 more texts and 4 voicemails just since this morning.” You admitted, “I sent a text back asking him to stop, but I’m guessing that’s not going to be effective.”
“Probably not,” He agreed, “But it’s a good first step. Are the texts the same as yesterday or more aggressive?”
“They’re the same, just more frequent.” You said, “Honestly, I just want him to leave me alone. I don’t want to have to worry about him suddenly popping up or worry about if he’s going to demand to see Ava.”
“Are you willing to let me help you?” He asked gently.
“If you’re sure it’s not a bother…” You said, giving in, “I would very much appreciate the help.”
“I wouldn’t have offered if I didn’t want to help,” He assured you, “Besides, my motives are purely selfish.”
“How so?” You asked, smiling.
“It gives me a reason to see more of you, which hopefully leads to us getting to know one another more, and in the interest of full disclosure, once this is all cleared up, I’m going to ask you for a date.” He admitted, smiling.
“In the interest of full disclosure,” You replied, “once this is all cleared up, I’ll probably say yes.”
“Probably?” He asked, laughing, “I can work with that.”
“You may have to run it by the boss…” you teased, “She’ll probably grill you on your knowledge of Disney Princesses.”
“I better do some research then.” He said, “I want to make sure I can pass with flying colors.”
“Ava was asking this morning when she can see Jacob again.” You said, “Seems she is very taken with him.” You left out the part about her wishing he was her brother.
“How would you feel about Jake and I coming to your house tomorrow?” He suggested, “He can keep Ava occupied while we sort through paperwork so I can get it done and filed with the court on Monday?”
“The only way I will agree to be the reason you have to work on a Sunday is if you at least let me cook you and Jacob dinner.” You bargained.
“You drive a hard bargain,” he joked, “I will happily accept those terms.”
“Any food allergies or aversions” You asked, “I was thinking about making lasagna tomorrow.”
“Jake and I eat pretty much anything.” he confirmed, “And lasagna sounds like Heaven.”
“I’ll plan on dinner then for around 5:30, but you are welcome to come any time.” You said, “And really, I cannot thank you enough for this.”
“No thanks are needed,” He said, “I’ve already admitted this is purely selfish on my part. Jake and I will come around 3:30, we’ll want to make sure Miss. Ava gets enough hang out time with Jake.”
“You’ll be her new favorite person.” You teased, “3:30 is perfect.”
“I’ve heard she’s the one I need to impress anyway in order to gain approval to ask her mom out.” He winked. “In the meantime, try not to look at messages from your ex or stress over the calls. We’ll get it all worked out soon. And do not say ‘thank you’ again!” he laughed, see you opening your mouth to do just that.
Andy walked you out to your car and you said your goodbyes before heading home to get groceries put away and laundry sorted. You were very much looking forward to dinner the next day.
My head is racing at a million miles an hour
I want to go outside and ride my bike or walk or something but I also want a snack like my Oreos or something but I wanna burn the calories
I wanna go to the store tonight to get apples bc I’m so desperate for them
I want to get other snacks but I’m telling myself I can’t get more till my other ones are gone which will never happen bc I’m scared to eat them
I made a grocery list but we just went last Monday so I might try to hold out a little longer since we do have a good amount of stuff, but I need my essentials like apples, yogurt, blueberries, strawberries and milk
But I feel like if I ask my mom she will throw a fit
I also feel like I don’t deserve to go shopping to get any food bc I feel disgusting, I wish I would’ve skipped lunch today but I need to eat up the beef by tomorrow
I just want to go out and walk around and do stuff
But my mom works till 5:30
I have the car and I could go anywhere but I also haven’t driven in 4ish months and I don’t feel comfortable driving again yet
I have counseling online around 5, which idk why we couldn’t just do it later so then my mom could drive me bc I haven’t seen my nurse in about 3 weeks either
Ugh why does everything have to be like this
Like I want the snack but it’s too early bc I ate an hour ago and don’t feel hungry but the mental hunger is what is getting to me
Idk what to do bc my body keeps saying to restrict because I feel like my legs are too big and my waist isn’t small enough yet
I just wish I could eat what I wanted and not gain weight
I’m so sick of this, I just want apples😩
Body Swap 👫 (Iwaizumi Hajime/Reader) ➸Rated T, fem!Reader, 1.6k words  ➷Humor, fluff, awkwardness ofc  ➷ Masterlist, Part 1, ✈Part 2
Thankfully, Hajime’s parents had busied themselves in the morning. Probably out grocery shopping, he’d mentioned off hand.
With Hajime the one blindfolding you now, you can finally place yourself in his shoes, an uneasy humiliation enveloping your bones.
“We can’t exactly dress each other everyday for school, can we?”
You mumble, as Hajime lets you tug the loose tee overhead. It seems he wanted little to do with this dress up game scenario, while simultaneously attempting to save himself from the embarrassment of you catching an eyeful of his junk.
He pulls off the blindfold and stares with an uncomfortable expression and blush. You’ve been doing a lot of blushing today since... well, since you woke up in each other’s bodies.
“I guess not. But I’ll respect your body, don’t worry.”
He huffs, folding his arms across his chest.
A short gasp comes from his lips, clearly not used to having a set of breasts, and he pulls his arms away quicker than you’ve probably ever moved yourself. Hajime awkwardly settles for resting his hands at his hips, and you stifle the snort that threatens to escape.
“I trust you, Hajime. Don’t worry. And same goes for me! I won’t eat junk food before bed, and I’ll work out a lot too!”
You announce while fist pumping the air, and he rolls his eyes.
“You better. Come on, let’s go before my mom and dad get back.”
Tumblr media
A lot of changes had to be made to accommodate your... new lifestyle.
You decided it was best to swap phones, considering you each have the same model and should probably be conversing with your classmates and friends with some sort of vague continuity.
You also had a rather short lived and awkward conversation about bathroom time and changing.
And on the way to the park, you discussed the people you each talked with the most in class, how to talk to them, and to take notes properly.
You’re thorough if anything, trying to make this awful situation as easy as you can possibly make it.
“This is exhausting... and we haven’t even gotten to play volleyball yet.”
You bounce the volleyball in the grass, huffing at the torture this body swap is turning out to be.
“At least you can spike, and have a mean serve. It would have been way worse for me if you were a libero.”
At least Hajime is looking on the bright side.
“We just have to get used to our bodies.”
You attempt to reason alongside him, amping each other up.
Tumblr media
By the time the sun sets, you’re both panting in the grass next to each other. All former encouragements and hype lost, replaced by the dread of the coming Monday.
“We’re so fucked, I’m not used to being this tall, or having these limbs.”
You wave your arms around in the grass for emphasis, turning to gaze at your partner in this disaster.
“I feel like I’ve been launched back to middle school, it’s hard to get used to being short again.”
Hajime hums in agreement.
“I’m not that short! You’re just tall!”
“Not that tall!”
He grimaces, and you think you hear him mutter something about one more centimeter.
Before you can delve back to wallowing in misery, Hajime speaks up again,
“Whatever, we actually started doing pretty good by the end. It’s not the level we’re usually at, but I’m sure we can fake it in practice well enough. Chalk it up to being sick or something. We’ll be back to normal soon enough.”
Sitting upright, he musters a confident look that warms your chest. You’re glad he’s being optimistic, pushing away the negative thoughts that keep rearing up.
“Yeah, I guess you’re right. Now let’s get food, I’m starved.”
Tumblr media
“Agedashi tofu is the best after practice.”
He’s gleaming, and you think it looks more natural on your face than the stern countenance that seems trademark to Hajime. Though, you do miss the rare occasions you got too see that expression on his normal face... so you make a mental note to take plenty of happy face selfies while you’re in this body.
You can’t help the soft laugh, imagining all the faces you could make in Hajime’s body he wouldn’t be caught dead making normally. When he eyes you warily, you shake your head and respond before he catches on to your plan.
“The katsudon here is way better, you’re crazy.”
You grin, mouth watering as you bring a pork cutlet to your lips.
When you bite in, it turns out to be less satisfying than you remembered.
‘Weird, this place has really good katsudon.’
When you peer over at Hajime, he seems to be sharing a similar dilemma.
“How is it?”
You tilt your head up, gazing cautiously at him.
“It’s... okay.”
He frowns, can he seriously not enjoy agedashi tofu right now? Or was it just made bad?
“Right. Same here.”
The two of you pause, stewing for a second at the disappointment of your favorite meals, before both having the same idea to swap plates.
When you bite into your newly swapped dishes, you both simultaneously break out into wide grins.
“Whaaat, this is so good!”
“’katsudon’s not so bad either.”
You burst out into laughter,
“I guess our tastes have been swapped too.”
“I was beginning to think this would just be a nightmare. But there’s some fun things involved.”
Hajime hums, taking another hearty bite from the katsudon. You smile at his enthusiasm, before returning to your dish.
 You continue to idly chatter about things that might be important to know, before walking home together.
When you reach the end of the street, Hajime almost makes the mistake of turning to the Iwaizumi residence. When he freezes, you realize you were equally ready to freely waltz into your own house.
You both awkwardly switch sides on the sidewalk, silently acknowledging the blunder with a light laugh.
“I’ll text you if I think of anything else. Have a good night,” you pause, “Y/N!”
You wink at him, chuckling at the sour expression. If you thought referring to yourself as Hajime was weird, it’s even more unsettling to call yourself by name.
Hajime rolls his eyes before waving goodbye.
“Yeah yeah... Hajime. See you tomorrow.”
The interaction certainly is odd, but you laugh with a grin nonetheless. Despite the fucked up situation, it’s kind of cool to have a secret to share with Hajime.
You just hope it isn’t permanent.
Tumblr media
When Hajime turns to the your household, he feels the nervousness come back full force.
The two of you spent all day with each other, not really worried about a stranger’s perception of them.
But now he has to deal with the people closest to you, your parents. And he’s actually quite fond of your parents, they’ve always treated him like the son they never had (as well as Oikawa), but he’s not exactly looking forward to living out their wish for a son vicariously through you.
He swings open the door, kicking his shoes off before stepping inside.
“I’m home!”
‘Remember to be enthusiastic, and keep that RBF in check!’ he hears your insistent reminder echo in his mind, almost catching himself scowling.
“Welcome back darling! Did you eat?”
He hears your mother’s voice from the kitchen.
“I had something to eat with Hajime.”
He sweats a little, your mom is oddly calculated, always in tune with your emotions. Sometimes even his, but there’s no way she’d figure out what was going on, right?
“Good. If you get hungry later, there’s left overs.”
He calls out a thanks, almost sighing in relief, looks like the panic was for nothing.
Hajime casually (yet so, so, eagerly) heads for the stairs.
“Where are you going? Aren’t you going to say hi to Tooru? He and his mother came for dinner!”
WHAT.
“Y/N-chan! You and Iwa-chan were hanging out today? We’re you practicing volleyball?”
As if on cue, Oikawa rounds the corner and cuts Hajime off at the stairs, eyeing the athletic attire he’s wearing,
“I have something I want to practice more, you should’ve texted me.”
He huffs, arms folded as he leans against the stairway’s frame. Clearly a trick, Oikawa blew up both of your phones all day long despite being told you were busy. Hajime resists the urge to scowl at the backhanded comment. Brat.
Wait a second... how exactly do you talk to Oikawa again? Hajime should know, he’s spent a majority of his life with the two of you, but he’s currently drawing blanks.
He seems to have wracked his brain a little too long for a normal interaction, as Oikawa’s eyeing him again with an inquisitive look.
“Sorry... Tooru. You were sleeping in, and we both just happened to wake up early. Besides, you shouldn’t be practicing so much.”
He’s glad he didn’t let the ‘Shittykawa’ slip, that wouldn’t have been on brand for you at all. Out of habit though, he did punch Tooru in the arm.
“Yow! So mean, why are you hitting me?!”
Oikawa cries out, looking utterly scandalized as he rubs the sore spot on his arm.
“Because you deserve it.”
Hajime rolls his eyes, hopefully you won’t become aware of this interaction or he’ll get an earful from you. He’s still slightly convinced he’s an innocent bystander affected by some sort of cosmic punishment on Oikawa Tooru.
“Are you mad at me?!”
Hajime ignores Oikawa’s cry of complaint, jogging up the stairs. It’s hard being you, he grimaces as he beelines for the safety your room.
Finally in the comfort of privacy, he collapses into your sheets with a sigh of relief.
It could barely be considered a conversation with your mother, and Oikawa, but he’s already feeling mentally exhausted from the social exchange.
And tomorrow marks the start of the school week. Great.
Hajime slumps into your absurd amount pillows (seriously, you only need one). If he feels a little disappointed that he can’t recognize your scent anymore, he certainly doesn’t admit it, and definitely doesn’t entertain the intrusive thought longer than a moment.
@whataboutmyfries @octoblus @superwhowhatwherepartyof1 @sunflowerfox87
If you hadn’t a chance to read the other parts, here they are:
Part 1, Part 2, Part 3
Part 4
No.
No. No. No.
Remus took the few steps down from the porch, but Sirius was already gone.
Fuck.
That wasn’t good. I mean… The kiss was good. But Sirius' reaction wasn’t.
What is Remus supposed to do now? Act like nothing had happened? Talk to him? Don’t talk to him? Talk to him, but not about this?
Remus touched his lips slightly, where just moments before Sirius' lips were.
It was perfect. A small, innocent kiss. It felt honest. It felt right.
At least for Remus.
He went back inside. There wasn’t much he could do about this today. It was late, he had to get up early tomorrow. He’ll figure it out then.
He didn’t figure anything out.
Remus was occupied with studying for his upcoming exams, he had to work on the weekends. Even more now, because of that trip to the beach. He wasn’t sure if it was still planned or if Sirius had already cancelled it.
When he met James with Lily at James’ apartment, Sirius was either in his room and not leaving it until Remus left or Sirius was not there at all.
Remus tried to talk to him, he really did. But Sirius didn’t give him a chance.
They met once in the coffee shop near the campus. Remus had already ordered his tea, when Sirius stepped to the counter. The moment he saw Remus, he turned around and left. Mumbling something like “lots of work to do” under his breath. He didn’t even order.
Marlene gave Remus his cup of tea, one eyebrow raised.
“What the hell was that? What did you do to him?” she asked Remus.
“I have no clue…” he answered, which wasn’t a lie actually.
He didn’t know what he'd done wrong. He hadn’t done anything. Well he had kissed him back, but would it have been any better if he hadn’t?
Remus shook his head. His heart was heavy. He missed Sirius. He missed looking at him, hearing his laugh, the puzzled expression he had sometimes. Remus was longing for him.
The best thing he could do now was concentrating on his exams he decided. So he did that. He tried at least.
More than once his thoughts wandered  back to their kiss on the porch. And more than once he wanted to go to Sirius and ask him what the fuck this whole situation was right now.
But he didn’t.
Of course he didn’t do that.
He’d seen Sirius confusion. He had a lot to process right now, so Remus didn’t want to push him. He would have pushed Sirius just further away from him with cornering him.
So he did nothing, except learning, writing his exams, working to earn some money for the trip (which still wasn’t cancelled surprisingly) and daydreaming about Sirius.
The last part he did a lot, to be honest.
-----
Remus threw some clothes in his bag, when his phone rang.
“Yes?” he answered.
“We’re picking you up in 10 minutes. Are you ready?” Lily asked him, Remus could hear that they were already in the car driving here.
“Yes, I’m almost done with packing up. See you in 10.” Remus hung up again.
He sighed.
So they were doing this.
The whole trip.
With Sirius.
Well if that doesn’t sound like fun.
The bell rang, Remus took his bag and left his room. His mom was already at work, but she had made them sandwiches for the drive, so they don’t have to starve. He took the bag with the food from the kitchen table and went outside. Lily was waiting for him. She smiled.
“You ready?” she asked.
Remus nodded. They walked to Sirius’ car, waiting on the driveway. Lily climbed onto the backseat next to James, what meant, that Remus would be riding shotgun.
Next to Sirius.
A whole 4 hour drive.
Remus sighed and then got into the car. He took a deep breath and looked to his left at Sirius, then turned around to the backseat.
“My mom made us sandwiches.” he said and handed them to James.
“Damn, I love your mom.” he said as he took a bite from one sandwich.
“You literally ate 10 minutes ago, James.” Lily said, rolling her eyes.
James shrugged.
“I’m hungry? Again? Sorry?” he grinned and kissed her on the cheek.
Remus turned back to see Sirius was watching him. Sirius gave him a small smile and then started the engine.
------
The car ride was actually quite nice to Remus' surprise. Remus and Lily talked about their exams, when James chimed in and said:
“It’s semester break. I don’t want to hear anything about exams until the next semester. Did you get me?”
“Just because you failed at least one of yours.” Lily said.
“I did not. I did pretty okay. I guess. I just want to relax now!”
So they talked about their plans for the break instead. Lily and James were going to visit James’ parents for two weeks and then visit Lily’s family together.
“What did you plan?” Remus asked Sirius.
“You know… I don’t study, so I don’t have break at the moment. I just continue with my work.” he said.
Remus nodded a little bit. Right.
He must have dozed off at some point, because when a hand touched his shoulder and Remus opened his eyes, the car was parked next to a small house. He looked to his left where Sirius’ hand was still lying on his arm. He looked at him and smiled a little bit.
“Thanks for waking me up.” Remus said.
“You’re welcome” Sirius answered while moving his hand away.
They both got out of the car, took their luggage from the trunk and followed James and Lily into the house.
It was a small house, but very nice. It had a kitchen with a table and four chairs in it, a living room with a couch and a TV, a bathroom and two bedrooms. There was also a porch with a view to the sea. It was perfect.
“So… You two are okay with sharing a room?” Lily asked Remus and Sirius.
Oh.
Right.
Lily wouldn’t share with him. She was sharing with James of course.
Which means he had to share a room with Sirius.
Oh my god.
Why hadn’t he thought about this earlier?!
Okay. Okay try to play it cool, Remus. It’ll be okay.
So he nodded a little bit.
“Yes it’s alright, of course.” Sirius said.
He was looking at Remus, a little bit longer than usually.
Remus cleared his throat, then said:
“Yeah, sure. Yes. Of course.”
That’s so not playing it cool, Remus.
Lily shot him a funny look, but then she just shrugged, took James by the elbow and went with him into one of the bedrooms. Remus took his bag and went into the other bedroom, followed by Sirius. He sat down on the bed, looking up at Sirius, who was standing in the middle of the room, looking around.
He looked at everything except Remus.
“Are you sure, you’re okay with sharing?” Remus asked “You didn’t even talk to me for the last three weeks”
Awkward silence.
“I’m okay… Can we... Can we talk about… it… later? I need to take a shower.”
Sirius finally looked at him.
Oh how Remus had missed those eyes. His heart skipped a beat.
He nodded and watched Sirius unpack. When he left for his shower, Remus started unpacking.
Sirius wanted to talk. Talk about it. And with “it” Remus really hoped he meant the kiss. And he really hoped Sirius wouldn’t say it was just a mistake. That it didn’t mean anything.
Remus swallowed. He took his book out of his bag and went into the living room. He lied down onto the couch and started reading.
Well he tried to. His mind wandered elsewhere. How is he supposed to stay calm?
He could hear the water running in the bathroom. He thought about Sirius standing under the water… Woah. Nope. No. That’s not a thing to think about right now.
He tried to focus on his book again.
When Lily came into the living room, he hadn’t managed to read a single page. She sat down next to him.
“We need to do some grocery shopping.” she said.
Remus put his book aside.
“Guess so.” he said.
“Are you okay?” she asked him.
Remus nodded.
“I’m good. It’s nice to be out of the town. Maybe I can relax for once.”
“That’s the plan.” she smiled.
--------
All four of them went to do some grocery shopping together, after Sirius had finished his shower. He went into the living room, fully dressed, his hair still wet from the water and Remus could smell a hint of his shampoo.
He felt the tension rise in the room, but maybe he just imagined it. It’s not very likely that he’d survive this weekend. Goodbye sanity.
Lily and Remus cooked together while James and Sirius caused chaos in the living room.
“What are they doing?” Remus asked Lily.
“I don’t know and I really don’t want to know. They are like this all the time. They behave like children when they are together. It’s so exhausting.” she sighed.
Remus smiled.
“I think it’s kinda cute.”
“Just because you’re not around them all the time.” she grumbled.
They ate together and watched a movie after that. Remus sat on the one end of the couch, Sirius on the other. Lily and James were squeezed between them. It wasn’t a large couch.
James yawned.
“Well I need to get some sleep now… See you in the morning.” he said and got up.
“Me too.” Lily said. “Sleep well.”
She left with James.
“I’m pretty sure they are not going to sleep now and I really don’t want to hear this.” Sirius said and got up too.
Remus laughed.
“You’re right.”
They went into their bedroom together. Sirius laid down on his side of the bed. Remus looked at him.
“So… you know I could sleep on the couch. I mean we don’t have to share a bed.” Remus said.
Sirius shook his head.
“It’s okay. Really… I don’t mind.”
Remus nodded a little bit and sat down on the other side of the bed.
Silence.
He looked at Sirius, who was staring at the ceiling. Thinking. He suddenly sat up, looking at Remus.
“It was a panic reaction.” Sirius said.
Ah. So they were talking now. Okay.
“Kissing me was a panic reaction?” Remus raised an eyebrow.
“What? No. The me-running-away-afterwards-part was. Kissing you was well calculated.”
“Well calculated? I’m not sure if I like that either.”
“What I meant is… that kissing you was something that I really wanted to do. And I took my chance then when offering to drive you home. And when I kissed you… Well I realised that I really wanted to do it. And that I want to do it again. And that’s when the panic hit in. I… didn’t know what to do with all this information. So I ran off. Like a coward. I was just so scared… I still am. And I…” Sirius' voice was barely a whisper at the end.
Remus swallowed. He reached for Sirius' hand, not sure if it was a good idea to actually take it, so he put his hand on the bed very close to Sirius’.
“You’re not a coward. You’re really not. It was very brave of you to kiss me. I wouldn’t have kissed you, even though I wanted to do it so badly.” Remus said softly.
He finally put his hand on top of Sirius, his heartbeat quickening. Sirius looked down at their hands and Remus could see a small smile play around those perfect lips, which made himself smile.
But Sirius withdrew his hand from Remus’ too soon. He moved both his hands through his dark curls.
“I’m sorry for running away. And for avoiding you. I’ve been just so confused. I still am… I… I don’t know what all this makes me.”
“It doesn’t change who you are, Sirius. You’re still the same person. No one is judging you for who you like.” Remus said, watching him.
Sirius laughed a little bit. It was a sad sound. A sound that broke Remus' heart.
“Obviously, you don’t know my family.” he said in a cold tone.
Sirius looked at his hands, tangled in each other. Remus took his hands and untangled them carefully.
“You don’t have to tell them, you know? You don’t have to tell anyone. It’s okay.” Remus assured him.
Sirius looked at their hands again, then up to meet Remus' eyes.
Remus could see the fear, the confusion in his eyes. But there was something else, something small showing in his eyes. It was hope.
A Cup of Something Better
Ch 12: A Weekend with Sumo
Connor was excited to be staying over at Hank’s to help with Sumo. Friday night they didn’t get up to a whole lot. Connor arrived around seven; fed Sumo, took him for a walk and then fell asleep on the couch. When Connor woke up Saturday morning he saw he had a good night text from Hank that he had missed, so before he got up for the day he sent a reply.
Connor: Good morning Hank :) I hope you had a good flight.
Sumo heard him move and sat up enough to rest his big head on the couch. Connor smiled and reached out to pet his head, “Good morning to you too bud. Let’s get you some breakfast. A little later we’ll go to the park.” The Saint Bernard perked up at the word ‘breakfast’ and made a b-line for the kitchen. Connor couldn’t help but let out a slight chuckle and got up to follow the excited dog. He fed Sumo and went about making his own breakfast. He’d been surprised to find the note on the counter last night that had said Hank had bought groceries so he wouldn’t have to worry about it. Connor had planned to go grocery shopping today. He got out what he would need for French Toast and started cooking. When Sumo finished his breakfast he came to sit beside Connor and begged for scraps. It didn’t take long for Connor to give in, he tore off a chunk of piece of bread and gave it to Sumo after he had followed the signed command to lay down. It was going to be a long weekend if Connor didn’t get over his puppy eye weakness soon.
He finished making his breakfast and put the dirty dishes in the sink. He made his way to the dining room table and Sumo followed close behind in hopes of getting more scraps. Connor took a seat at the table and Sumo placed his big head in Connor’s lap and stared up at him with wide sad brown eyes. “I can’t feed you anymore or your dad will get mad at me.” Sumo let out a huff, “I’m sorry. I just don’t want to make you sick or get in trouble.” Sumo let out another huff and inched his big body closer to Connor. The brunette had tried his best to ignore him, but by the time breakfast had ended Connor had given Sumo two more bites of bread and an bite of scrambled eggs. His weak will once again crumbling under the weight of Sumo’s puppy eyes. “No more for the rest of the weekend.” he told the dog as he did the dishes. Sumo just boofed at him, they both knew he was lying. He let Sumo out to go to the bathroom, and when he came back inside Connor settled on the couch to get some studying done, he wanted to get ahead on his classes. It was early afternoon when he decided to pack Sumo into Hank’s car and headed for the park. It was nice out and Connor had plans to stay for a few hours or at least until Sumo wanted to go home.
He found a place to park, grabbed the toys he brought for Sumo and got out. He walked around the car, put the lead on Sumo and let him out of the car. They walked around the park for a couple of laps. Sumo stopped on the path just as curious about the green eyed black cat on a walking harness and lead as Connor was. The man attached to the cat cleared his throat. “Pretty cool huh?” The man said with a smile to his voice, “You can take a picture if you want. Also, I love your dog.” Connor took out his phone and snapped a picture of the cat while the stranger did the same with Sumo. It was one of those moments of a picture being taken only seconds before disaster. The black cat had soon decided that she’d had enough of having a big dog in her face and sat back on her haunches to smack Sumo in the face. Once was all it took for Sumo to cower behind Connor, who was doing his best not to laugh as he tried to soothe him by petting his head. He heard the stranger begin to lecture his cat. “God Franklyn, why are you always such a bitch? This is why you have no friends.” Connor looked up to find him holding the cat in his hands so that they were eye level while he lectured her. A reverse Lion King king of thing, “He was just trying to say hello.”
With his cat sufficiently lectured, he turned his attention to Connor, “I’m so sorry about that.” Connor shook his head with a slight smile, “It’s no problem. You didn’t know she was going to do that.” “Fair enough.” The stranger conceded.  They both moved on with their walks. Sumo crossed over to the other side of Connor when they had to pass Franklyn. When they had finished their walk and Connor had found a bench to relax at, he sent the picture to Hank.
Connor: I hope you are having a good day :)
Hank <3: It’s going about as good as one of these can Hank <3: I have to leave in a few and I’ll be hit and miss for the rest of the day.
Connor: Alright. Connor: Good luck with your speech! :P
Connor put his phone away and played fetch with Sumo until the Saint Bernard came to lay at his feet and refused to give up the tennis ball. They stayed at the bench until Sumo was willing to move. Then they headed back to the house. Now that he wasn’t as exhausted and he had the time, Connor cleaned up his makeshift bed from the living room and moved his things to the guest room. When that was finished he looked through the fridge and got things out to start on a late lunch. He decided to make a grilled turkey sandwich and Sumo stuck close to his side to beg for scraps.
“I’m not supposed to give you people food.” He said when he glanced down at Sumo, “Your dad will get upset with me and I won’t be allowed to come stay with you anymore.” Connor didn’t actually believe Hank would be that strict with it, but he needed some kind of outside motivator not to feed Sumo. He finished making the sandwich and moved to the dining table with Sumo all but underfoot. The moment he sat down the Saint Bernard glued himself to Connor and begged for food. Connor did his best not to look at him because he knew the moment he looked down it would all be over and Sumo would be getting some turkey. Lunch passed without an incident which gave Connor’s bride a boost. The brunette spent the next couple hours working on Sign Commands with Sumo. He went over the ones he already knew and tried to get  him to learn the ones from last week. When evening rolled around Connor fed Sumo and started cooking spaghetti for himself. When it was done he sent a picture of it Hank as well as one of Sumo who was waiting for him by the dining table. Dinner passed without Connor giving in, mostly because of the fact that he knew dogs couldn’t have tomatoes. After dinner was done and the dishes were cleaned Connor sat on the couch with Sumo sprawled out beside him. He clicked onto the profile Hank had made for him on his Netflix and found a true crime show to watch. He got absorbed in it and continued to absently pet Sumo.
He was scared out of his half asleep stupor by his phone ringing. Both he and Sumo jolted upright, and the large dog let out a single loud bark as Connor dug around for his phone. When he found it he was surprised to see Hank’s name on the screen. He blew through his shock and answered it immediately. “Hank?” Connor asked in a rush, “Is everything okay?” “Connor?” Hank slurred. He’d been drinking apparently and was either already drunk or well on his way there. “ ‘Nor ar’ya there?” “I’m here Hank.” He reached out to calm Sumo who was still agitated from earlier, “What’s wrong?” Connor hated to immediately assume that something was wrong, but he couldn’t think of a positive reason as to why Hank would be calling him of all people while drunk. “Ezra is here.” Hank said surprisingly clear, “She’s th’ key fuckin speaker. They’re hav’n me intr’duce my own ex fiance.” Ah, so that was the problem. Hank’s excitement over getting invited to speak at the convention had gotten over shadowed by a ghost from his past. A ghost he still had feelings for if the drunken phone call was anything to go by. Connor buried the hurt that was threatening to pry his chest open and spoke, praying his voice was level when he did. They were only friends, if Hank still loved Ezra that was none of his business. “You’re just introducing her right?” He said slowly so that Hank would have an easier time understanding him, “If you don’t have to talk to her, just introduce her and be on your way. That would be the easiest way to do it.”
Hank hummed on the other end of the line and Connor couldn’t tell if it was because he was thinking or because he was having problems staying awake, “That shoul’ work. I jus’ hope she’ll stay away fr’m me.” So it wasn’t left over feelings. The relief that flooded Connor’s chest was closely followed by guilt. Something about this situation had pushed Hank to drink. As much as he wanted to ask about it, he wouldn’t because Hank wasn’t in a state to give a coherent answer and it was none of his business. Who Ezra was and what she had done didn’t matter right now. All that mattered was helping Hank get through it. “How was the convention today?” Connor asked in hopes of distracting Hank. “It was good. I didn’t have to talk to day s’ I listened to a few of the others ‘nd walked around.” Hank let out another hum that sounded a little more tired than the first, it was nearing midnight in Michigan so Connor could relate, “What did you an’ Sumo do today?” Connor smiled as he pet Sumo. “We went to the park and met a cat named Franklyn as well as the person that belongs to her. Played fetch for a little bit and then came back home. I tried teaching him the Sign Commands again and that went about as well as you would expect.” He heard Hank give a soft sound on the other end of the line. “Now we’re watching tv and talking with you.” Connor turned his head away from the phone to muffle a yawn.
Hank let out another tired hum, “Alright I’mma go t’ sleep. I’m g’na be fuckin hungover tomorrow.” “Sleep well Hank.” Connor said with a slight smile. “You too Con.” Hank responded before hanging up. Connor stared blankly at the tv for a few moments before he stood up to let Sumo out. His thoughts kept cycling back to Ezra. What had she done, that just introducing her would prompt Hank to drink himself into a stupor? Something had to have happened. Hank, according to his own words, had been doing better; only having a glass or two of whiskey on the good nights. So something had brought him to this, and Connor couldn’t be there to help. Sumo pulled Connor out of his head by brushing up against him when he walked back into the house. Connor shut the door behind Sumo and sighed as he headed to get ready for bed. He had work Monday morning and his classes started Tuesday evening, so this was his last weekend to relax. When he was ready for bed he climbed into the guest bed and invited Sumo up with him. His worried kept him awake for a while, but Sumo’s snoring soothed him into a light sleep. Despite his late night, Connor found himself awake early Sunday morning. He stayed in bed and stared at the ceiling until Sumo decided it was time to get up. He let Sumo out and put the food in his dish while he was outside. When that was done and he was waiting for Sumo to come inside he texted Hank.
Connor: Good morning Hank Connor: Don’t forget to drink water and take some pain pills Connor: You had a rough night :)
Sumo came back inside so Connor shut the door and put his food dish down. With Sumo taken care of Connor got  started on his own breakfast, a veggie omelet with cheese and a couple slices of toast. Sumo finished his breakfast and came to sit beside Connor while he cooked. Connor looked down at Sumo with a slight smile. “You got over here too late bud. There isn’t anything for me to give you.” He said as he got back to cooking. They went through the usual breakfast routine of Connor eating and Sumo pressed as close as possible begging for food. He caved and gave Sumo a couple of bites of his omelet. They sat on the couch and watched tv for a couple of hours. Connor was getting ready  to take Sumo for a walk when his phone chimed from his pocket.
Hank <3: I am SO sorry Connor! Hank <3: I don’t remember much of last night, but I hope I didn’t make you uncomfortable.
Connor: Don’t worry about it :) Connor: You just needed some company Connor: It happens to the best of us
Hank <3: Thanks Con Hank <3: Have a good rest of your day
Connor: You too Hank :)
Connor put Sumo on his lead and headed out the door. He let Sumo take charge since he probably knew his way around the neighborhood better than Connor did. They were out for about an hour and both he and Sumo flopped onto the couch. Connor turned the tv on and stayed like that until his body decided it was time to have lunch. He give Sumo a little extra food as well to keep him occupied while Connor cooked. He decided on having a grilled tuna wrap and tomato soup. He had the soup on one burner and the innards for his wrap on the other. As soon as Sumo finished eating he came to lean against Connor’s leg as he cooked. He looked down at Sumo and smiled. “This isn’t for you bud.” Connor said in a gentle tone, “You’ve already had your lunch, this is mine.” Sumo huffed at him and Connor laughed quietly.  He finished cooking the insides for his wrap and put them in the tortilla, rolled it and then took the time to cook the outside as well before he put it on the plate. He checked the soup and added a little more seasoning before putting some into a bowl. He headed to the table with Sumo close on his tail as usual.  He managed to make it through lunch without feeding Sumo. He did the dishes and put the left over soup away. Connor would make something for dinner to go with it. After lunch he tried to teach Sumo the Sign Commands again. It went a little better today, he seemed to finally recognize a couple of them. They did that for a couple hours before Sumo gave up and laid down. Connor put the tv back on and stayed like that until Sumo decided it was dinner time.
Connor let the large dog out then got his food ready and set the dish on the counter. He messaged Hank to check in.
Connor: Just checking in! Connor: I hope your speech went well :)
Sumo came back in and Connor put his dish down. Connor was feeling pretty exhausted from his long night and decided that reheating the soup from lunch would be good enough. He put the remaining portion in a bowl and put that in the microwave to cook. Sumo came to lean against him again and Connor reached down to pet him. “No cooking tonight bud, I’m not feeling it.” He said and Sumo huffed not seeming to mind all that much since he was getting attention. He grabbed a spoon when the microwave went off and took the bowl to the table. Sumo made a passive attempt at begging but Connor didn’t feed him. Hank had sent a reply by the time Connor had finished dinner.
Hank <3: Thank you! The speech went well :)
Connor: That’s great
Hank <3: How was your day?
Connor: Pretty good Connor: We went for a walk and practiced commands again Connor: I have work in the morning though, so I’m going to call it a night
Hank <3: Sleep well
Connor: You too Hank :)
He let Sumo out one last time before he got ready for bed. He set his alarm for early the next morning so he wouldn’t have to rush. He wouldn’t have to call a cab either he had permission to use Hank’s car. tomorrow would be a busy day; he had work in the morning, then around three-thirty he would need to leave so he could be on time to the airport to pick up Hank. He climbed into bed, Sumo hopped up beside him and it didn’t take him ling after that to fall asleep. His alarm went off at its set time and he was glad it was set to a softer song, he didn’t think he could handle one of Sumo’s full volume barks first thing in the morning. He got up and got dressed for work. He let Sumo out, fed him, and made a couple pieces of toast for breakfast. Sumo stared at him with wide eyes like usual, begging for toast and Connor chuckled. “You’ll beg for anything, won’t you bud.” He said with a smile curling at his lips, “I’m not gonna share this with you, I need the energy for work.” Sumo just huffed and oved closer.  Connor finished his toast and showed Sumo his empty hands. The big dog huffed again and headed for the living room. Connor finished getting ready for work, let Sumo out one last time, and then texted Hank before he left.
Connor: Have a safe flight. I’ll be there to pick you up when you land :)
The drive to work was relatively uneventful. He turned the radio on and nearly scared the soul out of his body when heavy metal rolled to life out of the speakers. He turned the radio off as soon as he collected himself enough to move and drove the rest of the way in silence.  His shift went by without incident. Macchiato Guy came in, and Connor was reminded of the guy from the park who had been walking his cat. Richard also came in so that was pretty nice. When he got off work, he drove back to Hank’s house and let Sumo out as soon as he got back. He made himself a quick lunch by microwaving what was left of the spaghetti. After he ate he did the dishes, pack his things and cleaned up around the house so it looked neat again. When it came close to time to leave he put his bag in the trunk and then went back to grab Sumo. He was pretty sure Hank would be excited to see Sumo when he got back. Before he left he messaged Hank again.
Connor: On my way! See you soon.
He didn’t expect a reply and he didn’t get one. The plan they had come up with was that Connor would pick Hank up at the airport, then drive back to his complex, and from there Hank would drive himself home. Sumo laid down in the back seat and the drive was quiet. He drove around for a bit until he found a parking place that was somewhat close to where Hank had said his exit gate was. He messaged Hank and cracked the windows for Sumo while they waited.
Connor: I’m here :) let me know when you land.
Connor turned in the driver’s seat so he could pet Sumo and passed the time that way. It didn’t feel like all that long before his phone went off. Hank had sent a picture of his baggage claim trolley as well as one of the marked entrances near him. Connor was pretty proud of his self for managing to park relatively close.
Hank <3: Just waiting on bags Hank <3: You can come in if you want
Connor smiled at his phone. He cracked the windows a little more, told Sumo to stay and made his way inside. He followed the signs until he found the one that matched the picture on his phone. He found Hank pretty easily after that, due to his unique taste in shirts. “How was California?” Connor asked once he had gone to stand beside Hank. “You know, most people start with hello, right?” Hank shot hack but smiled at Connor anyway, “It was good. How was Sumo?” “He was good. He seemed to like that I didn’t have anywhere to be for two days.” Connor replied as the trolley started up, “He was very cuddly.” “I’ll bet he was.” Hank said half heartedly with most of his attention now on the baggage trolley as he looked for his. Connor looked too, though he wasn’t much help since he didn’t know what the bag looked like and Hank was too focused to answer him when he asked.
It took about ten minutes to get the bag and once they had it they headed for the car. Watching as Hank lit up when he saw Sumo was what made Connor’s day. Hank rushed to put his bag in the trunk and then opened the back passenger side door so he could shower the massive dog with affection. It seemed like Hank had missed Sumo as much as the big dog had missed him. “Surprise.” Connor said with a broad grin. Hank straightened up so he could look at Connor over the roof of the car, “You’re the best.” Connor ducked his head and smiled as he opened the driver’s side door, “I figured you’d like to see him without having to wait until you got home.” He heard Hank close Sumo’s door and it was a short time later before he got in, “Thanks for that Con.” Connor smiled and pulled out of the parking spot, “It’s no problem Hank.” They fell into a comfortable silence after that. Connor had a million questions about the convention, but Hank didn’t look like he wanted to talk about it. There was still something heavy in his eyes despite his best efforts to make it seem like everything was alright. Part of Connor wanted to press, but now wasn’t the time to be nosey. If Hank wanted him to know, he would have told him. They arrived at Connor’s apartment complex about a half hour later and the brunette parked in his rarely used space. “Thanks for letting me look after Sumo.” He said, turning to Hank with a kind smile, “I’ll do it again whenever you need me to.”
“I should be thanking you Con,” Hank argued. “The trip was so much easier knowing that he was in good hands.” “I’m glad I could help.” Connor replied before they both got out. Hank made his way to the driver’s side and Connor walked around the car to say his goodbye to Sumo before he grabbed his bag. He waved to Hank one last time before he headed up to his apartment. He unpacked his things, got what he would need for his classes together, and decided to veg out on the couch a bit before bed. After a couple of hours he decided to call it a night early again so he would have enough energy for his work and classes tomorrow. He sent a good night text to Hank.
Connor: Good night :)
Hank <3: Sleep well Con.
“Fuck!”
Frank heard Fliss’ shout from the living room where he was sprawled on the sofa. She’d gone to take a bath, Mary was at Roberta’s so the pair of them were simply taking a bit of time to relax after what had been a fairly busy week, both physically and mentally.
“Fliss?” he called back as Thor stood up from where he had been curled on the rug, Fred leaning against him using him as a pillow as the feline always seemed to do. He watched the dog pad to the door and then stood up following him down the hallway. He entered the bedroom and found Fliss was stood in a pale blue dress, tears in her eyes.
“Honey what’s wrong?” he frowned.
“This fucking dress!” she practically exploded, her voice cracking. I only bought it a few weeks ago for Jake’s wedding and I just thought I’d try it on with my new shoes and it won’t do up at the back.”
Frank looked at her, feeling a pang of sympathy for his girl. She’d been really up and down in particular over the last 2 days with her hormones and she looked absolutely distraught, even if it was something so ridiculous as a dress that had set her off.
“Let me see.” he said, crossing the floor towards her. She turned and he gently reached for the zip, pulling the 2 sides of the dress together but it wasn’t going to fasten.
“See…” she sighed as he let go of the zip and rubbed the top of her arms. “I’m not even 5 months yet…” “You’re a week off.” he said softly.
“…And I feel huge! This is ridiculous…”
Frank slid his arms around her from behind, dropping a kiss to her shoulder. “Lissy, you’re not huge at all. Bean has just sprouted all of a sudden that’s all. You got a proper bump now.” “I am aware of that, Frank.” She snapped.
Frank took a deep breath, not rising to her in the slightest. Instead his hands moved to either side of the offending swell in her abdomen and he turned her gently towards the full length mirror in the corner of the room.
“Look… “ he said, fixing his eyes on hers in their reflection as his hand skated over her belly “You’re beautiful, and you’re cooking our baby in here…”
“That still doesn’t help that I have no dress!”
“Ok, well, let’s go shopping tomorrow. Mary’s at that party in the afternoon so we’ll drop her off, head into town and grab you something.”
Fliss paused as she looked at him in the mirror, her face slowly rearranging as she realised that actually the solution to the problem had been fairly simple all along.
“Sorry.” she mumbled. “I flipped again didn’t I?”
“Its fine.” he said, dropping a kiss to her cheek. “You didn’t throw a mug on the floor today so that’s an improvement.” “In my defence…” she turned to look at him “You did ask me about 5 times if I was feeling ok in the space of 10 minutes” “And clearly you weren’t as said mug is now in 3 pieces…” he shook his head and let out a long, dramatic sigh “You know I loved that mug too…it was a sad day.” Fliss snorted “You got it free from the Tack Store when we took Mary for her new hat…” “And it was a treasured memory. A reminder of how she stung me for another hundred bucks…” “Can’t put a price on safety Frankie.” she smiled and he chuckled.
“So, tomorrow afternoon then?” he asked and she nodded eagerly.
“Can we go to Tampa? The shopping is better there.”
“Sure.” he said, and suddenly the bones of a plan began to form in his head. And it was a good plan…if he could pull it off… “Crisis averted?” he asked, looking down at her.
“Crisis averted” she nodded.
“Good.” he smiled, kissing her cheek before he turned to leave the room to allow her to change for bed.
“Frank?”
“Yeah?” he stopped to look at her.
“I really want chilli fries.” she said, her voice almost puzzled.
“Chilli fries?” he frowned “Really? That’s a new one…”
“I know.” She shrugged. “I just got a hankering…specifically for Tequila Mockingbirds fries…”
Frank glanced at his watch “Sweetheart, it’s almost 11. The truck will have shut now…he only opens late on Saturday.”
“Oh, ok.” she said quietly, and he could see to his horror that her bottom lip was starting to wobble. Fuck, not another meltdown. Was this seriously how it was going to be for the next 4 damned months? Fucking hormones…
“Why don’t I nip to the store?” he said, a sudden idea coming to him “I can whip up a batch of the dirty ones you showed me how to make?”
“Yeah, yeah that could work.” she nodded.
“Ok, well, I’ll be back as soon as I can.” he smiled, turning on his heels.
It worked out quite well actually, as he used the short drive to the store to put his plan into action. First off he messaged Jake who called him straight back.
“What’s up?” he asked.
“I need you to do me a favour…” Frank said, explaining his plan.
“Short notice pal.”
“Yeah but you owe me so pull some strings”
“I owe you?” Jake snorted “What for?”
“If you hadn’t been tagged on those damned photos no one would have seen them and I wouldn’t have been couched for a night nor would I be suffering with blue balls.” Frank said simply, turning right across a junction.
Jake snorted “Leave it with me Frankie boy…I’ll see what I can do.”
Satisfied he cut the call and once he arrived at the store he shot Verity a quick message asking her if she would mind helping him out as well. He felt a little guilty, as they’d only gotten back from Italy that morning but she replied almost instantly telling him that she thought it was a great idea and her and Bill would be happy to do what he needed them to do.
Smiling he put his phone back in his pocket, and headed to the frozen food aisle at the back of the 24 hour mini-mart. He stood there, unable to decide what fries to buy so in the end he grabbed a bag of every available frozen ones there were- thick cut, curly, southern fried and thin, along with a tin of ready-made chilli (yes, disgusting but on dirty fries it was the only thing Fliss told him worked) and a block of cheddar cheese. As he walked towards the till he stopped, grinning as he spotted they had the big bottles of Appletize too, so he shoved 4 in his basket and headed to the counter.
The woman at the counter looked at him as he began unloading and Frank realised that it was a pretty odd combination.
“You either got the munchies or your girl is pregnant.” she quipped and Frank laughed.
“I’m not high.” he smiled, and the woman grinned at him as she scanned the items through.
Once he had paid he headed home, and found Fliss was led on the sofa with a toasting waffle in one hand and a glass of apple juice in her other.
“Couldn’t wait huh?” he asked as he walked through to the kitchen.
“I know…” she said, looking at him over the back of the couch. “I had an apple and a waffle…and I feel ok now.”
Frank stopped dead and turned to face her, the grocery bags clutched to his chest “Seriously? You don’t want the fries?”
She wrinkled her nose. “Not anymore.”
Frank took a deep breath, his tongue poking the inside of his cheek in frustration as he walked into the kitchen, depositing the bags on the side.
“The kid ain’t even born yet and it’s already a pain in my ass…”
“I can hear you grumbling from here…” Fliss called back.
“Good…” he retorted as she shoved the bottles of drink in the fridge and crammed the 4 bags of frozen fries into the freezer. Grabbing a beer he walked back into living room and dropped heavily onto couch next to her.
“Don’t be so grouchy.” she teased, lifting her feet into his lap. He shot her a glare, taking her right foot in his hands in an automatic response, and she dropped her hand to her belly. “Bean is sorry.” she said, flashing him her best puppy dog eyes, those fucking eyes that could get him to do whatever she wanted.
“Don’t pull that one.” he narrowed his own eyes at her and she cocked her head to one side as he ran his thumb up the arch of her foot. She let out a sigh.
“I’ll make it up to you.”
“How?” he asked as she looked at him, smirking.
“Bow job?”
Frank snorted, shifting slightly in his seat as that had really got his attention. But, not wanting to give himself away too much he simply arched an eyebrow at her “You think you can win me over like that?”
“Sailor, I know I can.”
“I’m not that cheap.” he said as his hands returned to massaging her foot.
“No, but I know for a fact you haven’t had any since the night before you went to Vegas…” she grinned “What was it you said in New York after a mere 3 days? Oh, yeah, Frankie has needs.”
Ok, so she’d got him well and truly. Like he had said to Jake before, he really was feeling slightly frustrated, but he hadn’t pushed anything on her at all since he’d come back from Vegas, deciding to let her make the decision as to when she wanted to get physically intimate with him again. As he looked at her she simply smiled and drained her glass of juice before setting it on the table.
“What?” she asked.
“Nothing.” he shook his head, “Was just trying to figure out if you were being serious or not.” She held his gaze for a moment before she looked back at the TV. They stayed still for a moment and Frank moved his attention to her left foot, before she shifted a little and then glanced back at him.
“Fraaaank.” her voice was an unmistakable whine, which meant she wanted something. “What?” he said, his word turning into an exasperated laugh.
“Did you get any curly fries?” she bit her lip.
“Are you for fucking real?” he looked at her, shaking his head.
“Don’t blame me…”
“Yeah, yeah blame Bean…” he shook his head “I swear to God by the time you’ve actually given birth to the little crotch goblin I’ll have aged about 20 years…”
“Crotch goblin?” she scoffed, “I’ll remind you, pal, you put it there…”
“Not on purpose!” he looked at her.
“Are you calling our baby a mistake?” Fliss narrowed her eyes at him, mock horror on her face
“Mistake…that’s a little harsh.” Frank shook his head “Accident, most definately.”
“Bastard.” Fliss grabbed a cushion from behind her and hit him with it as he laughed, grabbing it out of her hand.
“BB is a very pleasant and welcome surprise…” he said, shifting her legs out of his lap. Grinning he leaned over her, caging her on the sofa with his arms “Although right now, as I’m about to start cooking dirty fries at 15 to midnight, I’m debating the use of the pronoun pleasant.”
She chuckled as he leaned over to give her a soft kiss. Instantly she felt a little flutter again and her hand dropped to her bump.
“Bean’s moving again…”
Frank smiled and shifted a little so he could press his hand to her side, but after a moment or so shook his head, feeling ever so slightly deflated.
“I can’t feel anything.”
“You will do soon enough.” Fliss smiled at him.
“Hope so.” Frank’s smile became even softer as he kissed her again and stood up, heading to the kitchen.
Fliss watched him go, before she turned back to the TV, but she wasn’t paying attention, she was too busy thinking to herself how quickly Frank had headed out to get her what she wanted before, even if she had then changed her mind, and then reverted it back to it’s original state. She hated comparing the two of them, and tried not to do it, but as she sat there she couldn’t help it. Frank was as far from John as she was likely to get, her ex-husband wouldn’t have ever done anything like that for her, whether she as carrying his kid or not. But Frank hadn’t even hesitated. And now he was actually about to cook it too. She wasn’t even sure John had ever known how to actually turn the damned oven on. To be fair, when she’d met Frank his cooking skills were also limited but another huge difference in them was that he had wanted to learn. He helped her, listened and managed pretty much once she’d cooked something with him to make a fairly decent version of it on his own. And he did this simply because he wanted to. He had said he didn’t like the fact she cooked every day, and on the evenings she got home a little later than normal he wanted to be able to have something ready instead of merely calling for a take out.
As she sat there, those thoughts whirring in her head, she felt a surge of affection for her Sailor. Since their talk on Monday, she’d let Frank back into their bed but there’d been no intimacy, although she’d let him cuddle her, she’d kissed him back, she hadn’t been unaffectionate per se, but in all honesty she hadn’t been in the mood for anything else, which was probably something down to hormones as well as her still being a little angry at him, but now…well, she’d seen it in his eyes before when she’d been teasing him, he was frustrated as hell.  And if she was honest, she now found herself in the mood for giving him a little spontaneous pleasure…
With a smirk she stood up and walked into the kitchen, her arms snaking around his waist as she pressed herself to his back (well as much as she could thanks to the football she had in her stomach) and pressed a soft kiss to his back, just beneath his shoulder blades.
“You ok?” he asked, his voice vibrating through his back into her chest and she nodded as her hands rubbed at his stomach under his T-shirt. She felt him tense a little, and grinning she gently moved her hands up his top to rake down the line of hair that led from his chest all the way down his belly. She knew what that did to him and right on cue, Frank gave a grunt, jolting a little and her hand continued to move downwards, palming at his crotch through his sweats.
“Lissy…” his voice caught in his throat as she continued, her hand working him up over his clothing. “You don’t need to-“ “I know, but I want to.” she stood on her tiptoes to whisper into his ear. He tilted his head downwards slightly, allowing her to nip at his jawline and he spun round to face her, where she pulled his head down to hers giving him a slow kiss, her tongue sliding against his before she leaned back, his bottom lip between her teeth.
By the time his brain had caught up with what was going on, Fliss had gotten to her knees and flipped the waist band of the sweats he was wearing down, taking his erection firmly in one hand, making him hiss slightly. She stroked him to full hardness, which didn’t take that long at all, before she looked up and locked eyes with him, giving him one final smirk before she took him in her mouth.
“God, baby….” Frank groaned, his hands gripping the edge of the kitchen counter, her eyes still locked on his. His right hand gently dropped to the back of her head, tangling in her long hair as her head bobbed back and forth. It was bliss, her mouth was warm, lips soft, but her tongue…God she knew just how to work him with that thing and as he felt it wrap around the base of his cock he gave a grunt, his hips bucking forward slightly. At that, Fliss pulled off of him to suck at the tip and worked her hands over the rest of his length which sent shivers up his spine. Groaning, his head dropped back slightly, as she continued to lick, suck before she took him in, this time all the way, her cheeks hollowing and one of her hands reaching round from the back of his thigh to gently squeeze at his balls.
“Fucking hell….” he hissed, his hand tightening in her hair and once more looked at her. Her eyes locked back onto his and he felt that tell-tale warmth pooling in his groin and stomach.
"Lissy, sweetheart, shit…" His voice was raspy from desire and pleasure and at the mere sound of how turned on his was Fliss felt the wetness beginning to pool in between her legs. He continued to babble curse words and her name, before he gasped again, letting out a loud moan. “Fuck, honey, "I'm gonna-" his words caught in his mouth as Fliss took him all the way to the back of her throat. At that, he was gone, his fingers gripped her hair tight the other clutched at the kitchen side, noises that sounded alien even to him tumbling from his mouth as he spilled himself down her throat and slumped back completely blissed out against the kitchen side.
Fliss grinned, her hands gently running up the outside of his thighs as she stood up, pulling his boxers and sweats with her, pressing herself to his chest. With a soft hum of contentment, he opened his eyes and looked down at her.
“Good?” she asked, but the look in her eyes told him she knew exactly what the answer was. Still, he gave it her anyway. “Damned right it was…” he grinned, leaning down and kissing her, his hands holding her face in position. She let out a soft moan into his mouth and he pulled back slightly, arching an eyebrow.
“You all worked up baby girl?”
“Yeah…don’t suppose you fancy helping me out…” she whispered, and Frank grinned.
“We got 15 minutes till the fries cook so…” he smirked as he gently spun her round so her back was clutched to his chest.  Fliss grinned to herself as his lips gently brushed on her neck, his beard scratching at her skin as he nipped his way down to her shoulder, his hand splaying over her bump before it worked beneath the waistband of her pyjama shorts. Her breath caught in her throat as his fingers skated her entrance.
“You are worked up…” he muttered, his fingers sliding through her slick, as her head fell back against his shoulder and she bit her lip.
“I told you…” she muttered as his fingers slipped further into her folds, finding that little bundle of nerves. His other hand slipped up her vest top and ran up her side to her breasts, which he knew would be tender, but the plus side to that was that they were goddamned sensitive, so heightened to his touch and it got her off like nothing he’d ever seen before. True to form, she let out a soft squeak as he rolled a nipple gently between his thumb and forefinger. Sliding his fingers inside her he curled them against the fleshy spot on her walls, both his hands working in synch, a coordinated attack on her senses and within minutes she was putty in his hands.
“Frankie…I’m…god…fuck!” she cursed, her head falling back further as her knees began to shake.
“I got you…” he said softly, his mouth caressing her neck again “Go on baby, give it to me…” With a desperate groan she shuddered, her hand wrapping around his wrists as he felt her pulsing and squeezing around his fingers as she came, the trembles wracking her entire body. Frank held her steady until she took a deep breath, giving a soft sigh as she leaning back into him. She tilted her head round to look at him, a smile on her face, her cheeks tinged with pink underneath those gorgeous freckles and he smiled at her, giving her a soft kiss. Setting her clothes right for her, his hands skated over her bump once more and he kissed her shoulder.
“You ok?” he asked.
“Yep.” she nodded, popping the P as she turned to face him, leaning up to kiss the underneath of his jaw. He looked down at her, before a wicked smirk crossed his face and he popped his two fingers in his mouth, sucking her taste off him.
“Francis!” she scoffed, slapping him round the back of the head and he let out a loud laugh.
“You don’t complain about me tasting you when I’m down there…” “You’re so vulgar!” she snorted.
“Says the woman who just blew me in the kitchen.” She cocked her head to one side, shrugging slightly “Touché….”
He smiled again before she turned to the fridge “Want another beer?”
“Sure, thanks.” he said.
She pulled open the fridge door and let out a little shriek of delight “Where did you get that?” she asked, her eyes widening as she pulled out a bottle of Appletize. “I couldn’t find any in the supermarket!”
“The Mini-Mart before.” he said, “Woman thought I was high when I bought 4 bags of fries and 4 big bottles of that”
“My hero!” she grinned
Frank grinned “if fetching you fries and Appetize means you get on your knees for me then hell, I’ll go every fucking night.”
“Don’t get used to it Sailor.” she looked at him, “Soon I'll be too big to kneel down.”
Frank chuckled, “Why don’t you go wait in the lounge?”
"I'm good.” Fliss shrugged “I'll help."
The two of them stood in the kitchen making their food. Frank warmed the chili through as Fliss grated the entire block of cheese and when Frank challenged her as to why exactly they needed that for 2 of them she simply replied “3 of us Frankie…” whilst patting her bump. Soon they were sat on the sofa, Fliss cross legged with a plate on her lap as she devoured her snack. Frank watched her as she eagerly ate, eyes fixed on the latest episode of Rick And Morty, every so often she would chuckle at something on the screen. Frank smiled to himself, it had felt like a long 5 days since Monday, but they seemed to be on an even keel. She was joking and laughing with him, had been reasonably affectionate and to be fair her affections certainly had upped a notch when she just sucked him off in the kitchen. Granted, all things considered, he’d rather have carried her to bed, taken his time over her, loved on her a little but…well, he certainly wasn’t complaining. It seemed like she’d finally decided he was completely out of the dog house, which suited him absolutely fine.
Fliss let out a happy sigh and placed her now empty plate on the coffee table on top of the one Frank had discarded a few minutes ago. She stretched out her limbs before she shifted and snuggled into Frank’s side.
"Love you." She said, her hand rubbing his tummy softly under his t-shirt. "So does Bean"
Her touch and words made him feel all warm inside. Not horny warm…just…fuzzy warm. Smiling he dropped a kiss to her head “Love you too, both of you.”
****** “What do you think?” Fliss asked, giving a twirl. With the help of the assistant in the little independent Mother and Baby boutique shop they’d stumbled across, aptly called “Bump In The Road” she’d chosen a maxi dress with a pleated tulle overlay in stripes of bright pastel pink, orange, lime-green, purple, yellow and blue. The top half was a baby pink with spaghetti straps which crossed at the back and It had a plunging V-neckline which complemented the fit and flare silhouette which meant the skirt hung comfortably over her lower body but still made her feel sexy enough thanks to it accentuating her cleavage...which, to be fair, she’d noticed when trying the dress on, was a lot more noticable now thanks to her boobs being swollen.
Frank’s eyes took her in and he smiled, nodding approvingly.  “You look beautiful.” he told her honestly, and she flushed a little, twirling in the mirror.
“Do you think the colour is ok or should I go for the yellow one? I mean is it too much boob and the yellow is a halter neck so you don’t see any…” “Lissy…” he shook his head, chuckling “It looks fine, more than fine. I really like it on you.” “It’s also elasticated at the back and the straps adjust.” the assistant spoke “So your worry about bump growing more over the next week won’t cause an issue. You’ll get a fair few months I expect out of this.” Fliss hummed, looked at her reflection again before she smiled “OK, yeah, great…I’ll take it.”
The assistant smiled and Fliss turned back to head into the changing cubicle. Once she was out of ear shot Frank looked at the woman.
“Can we take the yellow one too?” he asked, “Just ring it through before she comes back, I want it to be a surprise.”
The assistant nodded and smiled “Sure, I’ll get it ready and bagged now so she doesn’t see it.”
“Thanks.”
He headed to the till, producing his card and shortly after Fliss joined him and he let out a chuckle when he saw she’d also picked up another little baby-grow on the way. This one was white and bore an apple on the front, with the words “apple of our eye” arched over the top.
“I thought it was kinda fitting.” she grinned and Frank had to agree considering her craving. He handed it to the assistant who was smart enough not to announce the total to him, given the additional purchase as he handed his card over. Fliss pouted at him but one look and she stopped the fuss she was about to make over the fact he had paid. They’d already had that discussion on the way over, Frank insisting that he wanted to buy her the dress considering it was “his fault” as she had put it that she was in this position in the first place.
He took the bag from the assistant and thanking her once more they headed out and back down the street. Frank stole a glance at his watch, it was just after 3. He could do with killing another hour or so before he put into play his surprise plan so he suggested they grab a drink and an ice cream at the little parlour on the corner. Fliss eagerly agreed so that killed another 40 minutes as they sat and joked over a sundae each, before they headed back to the truck taking the long way round, checking out a few other shops as they went, Fliss suggesting the grabbed Mary a few new pieces of clothing as she was growing again. Picking a few t-shirts and a pair of shorts they knew she would like they then headed back to the car and Frank checked his phone, memorising the directions. They weren’t far away.
When he didn’t take the turn for the freeway, Fliss looked at him. “You missed the turn off.” “No I didn’t” he said simply.
“Yeah, you did, it was back there.”
“We’re not going home.” he said simply. She frowned.
“Where are we going then?”
“You’ll see.”
Refusing to give her anything else, despite her questioning he kept driving, until he hit the coastal road and continued along the bay until his destination appeared in front of him. Hanging a right turn, he drove his truck down the little winding road which opened up into a circle drive way flanked by palm trees and bright flowerbeds just outside the reception of the Grand Hyatt.
“Frank…” Fliss looked at him, her eyes shining “We’re staying for the night?”
“Yup.” he nodded turning to face her. “I packed us a bag this morning whilst you were at the yard, Mary’s staying with your parents as is Thor and I suspect Fred and we have a dinner reservation at 7 for the Oyster Catcher, which is on the bay at the back.”
“I don’t…how did you manage to pull this off at such short notice?”
“Jake.” Frank said simply “Come on.”
He hopped out of his truck and smiled to the bus boy who had approached him and nodded for them to collect their bags out of the boot. “Including the large paper one.” he said discreetly and he nodded before he turned to collect the slip of paper from the valet. He took Fliss’ hand and led her into the huge reception area to the hotel, the floor a gorgeous white marble as they walked over to the desk and he smiled at the woman who looked at him.
“Good afternoon Sir, Ma’am.” she smiled, and Fliss suddenly felt a little self-conscious. Everyone was milling around in various states of what she would term upper-class smart casual, in blazers and open necked dress shirts with jeans that probably cost more than her fucking jeep. Frank, however, in contrast didn’t give a shit. He wasn’t here to impress or blend in.
“Reservation for Adler.” he said smiling at the receptionist who tapped at a keyboard and nodded.
“Yes Mr Adler, you’re here for one night…and have an executive double…” she scanned the booking “The room rate is already settled, but I can set up-…” “I’m sorry, did you say the room rate was covered?” Frank frowned. “Yes.” She nodded, “It’s already been paid.” “Take it that wasn’t expected.” Fliss looked at him and he shook his head, smiling.
“No, no it wasn’t. I’ll thank Jake later.” he said, before he turned to the lady at the desk “Sorry, I didn’t mean to interrupt.”
“No problem.” she smiled “I was just saying if you want to give me your card I can set up a tab so you can charge items to your room…” “Sure.” he nodded, fishing for his wallet before handing her the small square of plastic. As she took a scan of it he turned to Fliss and dropped a kiss to her temple as she smiled, her arm looping around her waist.
“Is this where we’re staying for Jake’s wedding?” she asked and he nodded.
“Thought we could give it a test run beforehand.” he looked at her “You are ok we’re staying, right?” “Of course.” she smiled “It’s really sweet of you.” “Well, I try.” he winked before he turned back to the brunette behind the desk who asked him for his signature in a few places before she handed him the key.
“Ok so you’re on the 5th floor…” she said nodding, “Room 512. Take the elevator to the 5th floor go right out of the elevator and you’ll see it on the left hand side. I’ll have your bags brought up
Frank thanked her and they both headed off following the directions. Frank led Fliss out of the elevator an down to the room, opening the door to let her in. The room was large, with a huge king bed in the middle and a large TV on the wall, and a balcony overlooking the bay. But what caught Fliss’ attention straight away was the 4 pack of beer on the small table and the large bottle of Apple juice for her. She nudge Frank and he gave a snort as she walked over to it and picked up the note attached to it.
“Enjoy the room on me pal, well, my Employee Free Stay points anyway…sorry about the balls.” she read aloud as she turned to him and Frank rubbed at his neck, “I’m not even gonna ask what that means.” “Yeah, probably best” he grinned, and then there was a knock at the door. Frank opened it and in walked the bus boy with their luggage, setting it down for them before Frank thanked him, slipped him a ten and he headed out.
Fliss looked at the overnight bag and then frowned “What did you bring me to wear to dinner.” “Nothing” Frank said, before he grinned and picked up the bag from the boutique. “But I got you something before.” “That’s for the wedding.” She looked at him, “Although I could wear it twice…” “No, check in the bottom.” he insisted. She frowned a little, before she took the bag and set it down on the small table, before she let out a gasp as she pulled out the lemon yellow dress she’d tried on before.
“You bought me both of them?”
He nodded.
“Frankie, you didn’t have to do that. You didn’t have to do any of this.” she said, her eyes misting over.
“I know but I wanted to.” he said, stepping forwards his hands dropping to her hips. “I figured it would be nice for us to have some time together, just the two…well…3…” he grinned, nodding to her bump “of us.” “Thank you.” she said, looking up at him as he dropped a kiss to her lips.
Once they’d unpacked their overnight thing, Fliss headed for a shower and emerged a little while later in a robe and Frank walked back in from where he’d been on the balcony with a beer, having fired a thank you message to Jake. He smiled at Fliss and headed to shower himself, coming back about 5 minutes later also wrapped in a robe. They sat out together on the balcony talking for a little while as Fliss pretty much drank the entire bottle of juice before she announced she was going to get ready.
“You look gorgeous.” Frank said as she stood in front of him, wearing her dress. Her hair was pulled back into a bun and her make-up was light, despite the fact that Frank had shoved pretty much every item in her vanity case into their bag not knowing what she would want and wouldn’t want.
“You look pretty dapper too, Sailor” she smiled, taking in his black button down and smart jean. Dropping a kiss to her cheek he gestured to the door and they both left the room and made their way to the restaurant which was located through the back of the hotel. They were led through to the outside patio which had a spectacular panoramic view of Old Tampa Bay. Fliss ordered herself a mock-tail, whilst Frank asked for a beer, grinning when the waiter told them they had Stella on tap.  Fliss busied herself with the menu, and Frank took a moment to watch her. She really was glowing. He’d thought that was such a shit cliché about pregnant women, but at that point in time he couldn’t think of any other way to describe her. Her face was slightly fuller now, but with it she carried a soft look, which just complimented her personality anymore. The changes her entire body was going through reminded him daily she was carrying his baby, and each day he woke up and was convinced he was slightly more in love with her than he had been when he’d fallen asleep, even though he knew that wasn’t actually possible.
“The mahi-mahi looks really good.” Fliss mused as she looked at the menu. “As does the lobster but not sure I can eat that…” “Well, actually…” Frank said, leaning forward and pulling a piece of paper out of his pocket “I knew this was a seafood restaurant so Mary did her usual google…and found this.”
He handed it to her and waited for her reaction. As she scanned the list of seafood that she could eat she shook her head and let out a little moan.
“So all this time I could have been eating prawns?!”
Frank shrugged “According to that.”
“Damned it!” he cursed “I’m going to kill my mum.” “Well I don’t doubt guidelines have changed a little over the years” he chuckled.
Before she could reply the waiter came back to take them to their table which was on the large veranda at bay level. He left them alone for another 10 minutes before returning for their order. Frank raised his eyebrow as Fliss ordered the fishcakes to start and then the Lobster tail for main, not that he cared how much it cost, he wasn’t worrying about that tonight. With that in mind he went for the same started but then the surf-and-turf option, with a fillet steak.
“I can’t remember the last time we did this.” Fliss said, reaching out over the table, her hand tangling in his. “Just had a meal out, the 2 of us.”
“Me neither.” he mused. “It was before Christmas I know that much.”
“Probably before Boston actually.” she mused.
“We should do it more often” he smiled, his thumb skating over her engagement ring “I like spending time with you like this.”
“Me too.” she smiled at him. “And don’t worry Sailor. Once Bean is here you’re taking me out for an evening of fine dining where I’m gonna eat my bodyweight in blue cheese and drink a swimming pool full of wine…or champagne…or maybe both.” He chuckled and nodded “Whatever you want honey.”
Their conversation turned to their house hunting, both agreeing that they really needed to step it up a notch. They hadn’t even made an appointment with a bank yet to find out what they biggest budget they had was, so that was first on the agenda, Frank saying he would call to make an apartment on Monday. And then when their starters arrived they switched to the biggest question of all at the moment, whether they were going to find out if Bean was pink or blue.
“I think I wanna know.” Fliss said, swallowing the last of her starter, giving Frank a smile
Frank looked at her, his head cocking to one side. “You wanna find out?”
Fliss smiled shyly and paused as the waiter came along to remove their now empty plates before she continued once he had left.  “I wasn’t sure…but…yeah, I think I am now. It struck me before in that shop, that once we know how much easier it will be, buying blue or pink stuff instead of yellows or greys…”
“I dunno, I quite like the yellow item we bought…” he quipped, taking a mouthful of his beer as he nodded to her dress. She grinned.
“Well, yeah, I do too…but you know full well what I mean.”
He chuckled “Yeah, I do.” he leaned forward a little, both arms resting on the table as he looked at her, “Ok, so that’s decided then…we find out?”
She nodded, holding his gaze for a moment and he blinked, a soft mile spreading across his face. “I can’t wait.” he admitted to her, almost bashfully and she smiled back.
“Me neither…” she whispered.
*****
“Frankie, that was such wonderful evening.” Fliss turned to look at him as she kicked off her sandals whilst he locked the hotel room door behind them. “Thank you.”
“I’m glad you enjoyed it Sweetheart…” he said gently, pulling her to him as his hands wrapped around her back.
“It was really thoughtful” she said, as her hands slid up his chest. “You didn’t have to do it though you know, I mean as an apology, I’m not-“ “No no, it wasn’t that.” he shook his head, “I just wanted some time with you, that’s all. I do have my sentimental moments when I’m not being a complete jack ass.” he quipped and she looked at him, her face soft.
“You’re my jack ass…” she smiled as her arms looped around his neck.
“Always.” he returned her smile as he leaned down to kiss her.
“Can you help me out of this dress?” she whispered into his mouth, and fuck, he didn’t need asking twice.
Frank reached round to the zipper at the back and gently slid it down as Fliss moved back, allowing the lemon coloured fabric to pool at her feet. He followed the line of her body upwards, over her thighs, that neat little bump, up past her hips, her breasts before he finally met her eyes again. He looked at her for a second before his lips crashed to hers, noses bumping slightly as he flicked his tongue teasingly into her mouth, his hands cupping her ace as hers fisted in the back of his shirt.
In a quick movement, Frank reached down and hooked his hands round the back of her thighs, easily picking her up, bump and all. She giggled, wrapping her legs round his waist, her nose brushing against his as he carried her over to the bed, setting her down gently on it.  He shucked off his own shoes as he reached behind his head and grabbed a fist full of his shirt, yanking it over his head without even bothering with the buttons, before he dropped down on the bed, settling his hips in between her legs in the space she made for him as she ran her hands through his hair. He smiled softly at her before he pressed his lips back to hers, kissing her deeply, his large hands keeping him propped above her so as not to put any of his weight against that precious cargo she was carrying.
She pushed on his chest, sitting up slightly as she reached behind her to undo her bran and Frank leaned forward, placing a gentle kiss on each shoulder as he slid the straps down over her arms, removing it completely. As she lay back against the bed, Frank shifted so he was led on his side by her, his mouth hungrily covering hers as his hand trailed up the outside of her thigh, to her hip, up the side of her body and then onto her breasts teasing gently. She groaned, rolling her head back on the pillow at the sensation, her hips bucking upwards as he shifted, hovering over her. He buried his face in the side of her neck working at the pulse spot, the little noises of pleasure she was making were music in his ear. Her hips began to move, rolling against nothing, groans falling from her lips at the sensation as he nipped slightly at her neck and then moved his mouth to her chest, taking her right nipple in. Her groans were growing louder now and Frank couldn’t take it anymore. He wanted to be in her, surrounded by her, feel her. Moving back to shed the rest of his clothes, he stood up, undoing his jeans and kicking them off, all the time his eyes on Fliss’ as she watched him, her gaze travelling down his body to where his cock now stood angry and red against his abs. He leaned down, hooking his fingers in the lace of Fliss’ panties, pulling them down over her legs before he settled on the bed once more, Fliss moving so she could straddle him. As she did so, his hands tangled in her hair, pulling her face down to kiss him as she reached down between them, taking him in her hand. He groaned but didn’t release her mouth as she adjusted position to take him in, slowly sliding down onto him. A filthy moan flew from her mouth which he swallowed with his kiss as she stayed pressed against him, and she began to move, rolling her hips forward. She was quick to find a rhythm and her mouth fell open against his lips and she let out a shaky moan before sitting up fully.
The sight of her on top, illuminated by soft light streaming in through the slight gap in the curtains was almost enough to tip him right over there and then. He wanted to touch her, so he did, bringing her hands up to run them up her sides until his hands cupped her breasts, thumbs running over her nipples as she let out another moan. As she picked up the pace his hands went to her hips, pulling her down onto him harder, thrusting upwards to meet her for every move she made. She continued to move, quickening, her eyes never leaving his.
“Frankie…”she groaned, as he tilted his hips up harder and he let out a groan himself, increasingly determined to get her there again before he lost it. As he felt the coil in his own belly tightening, his hand moved from her hip to stroke at that spot between her legs and that did it. He felt her tense up and tighten around him, crying out loudly and unbridled as she shook. The sight of her coming undone on top of him, her cheeks flushed, lips pink, mouth open in a now silent scream, would always be the single most exquisite thing Frank had ever seen, no matter how many times he got to see it. All of that, coupled with the force of her heat tightening even, more made him lose himself.
“Fuck, Lissy…” the curse fell from his lips as he thrust upwards, before he spilled himself inside her again, the wave of pleasure washing over him as the world fell silent and he could hear nothing but ringing in his ears. Fliss collapsed forward onto his chest, her tremors subsided, both of them panting as they came back down, turning back into the world. Frank held her close, his fingers running up and down her spine as she let out a soft “hum” of contentment and he sat up, wanting to see her face to face. Still cradling her close he pushed the hair that had fallen over her face back behind her ears and she reached up, running her hands through his, causing him to close his eyes at the sensation of her nails on his scalp.
“God, I love you.” he whispered, pulled her closer, his nose rubbing up against hers.
"I love you too.”
Frank moved so that she could roll off him and to the side, before he pulled the covers back, allowing them both to shuffle under before he turned off the lamp at the side of the bed. Fliss moved so that her head lay on his chest, her arm resting over his stomach and he placed a soft kiss to the side of her temple, his hand moving to softly card through her hair. For the first time in a week, Frank felt like things were completely back to where they should be.
***** They had a lazy morning in the hotel, making the most of the breakfast before they headed back to collect Mary. The drive home was relaxed, the pair of them singing along to whatever came on Frank’s Spotify play-list, Fliss snorting with laughter when the Spice Girls Wannabe hit her ears.
“Hey, it’s a classic.” Frank defended himself as she looked at him, shaking her head.
“Sure it is…” she laughed, cranking the volume up.
When they reached Verity and Bills, Thor came bounding up the drive to greet the truck, running after it and almost sending Fliss flying as he barrelled into her legs. Frank caught her, steadying her as he shot the dog an exasperated look. Whilst he wasn’t growling at Frank anymore, the dog was ridiculously clingy to Fliss, more so than usual and had clearly been unhappy at being away from her. They headed round to the pool area, where Mary was busy wrestling with Steve in the pool, swinging on his arm, trying to pull him under the water. She hardly spared them a second glance as they greeted her, until Verity called her out for a drink and a slice of lemon cake.
“Sit down, sit down!” she ushered Fliss and Frank to the outside table on the decking, where Frank moved a chair back for Fliss, dropping a kiss to her shoulder. Steve and Mary padded over and Mary wrapped herself in a towel whilst Steve moved over to give Fliss a hug, causing her to squeal as he was wet. Mary hopped onto Frank’s knee and gave his cheek a peck and then squished his cheeks together as she often did, making him jerk his head out of her reach before he blew a wet rasberry on her neck, causing her to shriek and pull away.
Bill appeared a short while later, smiling at them all as he took a seat at the table, an envelope in his hands. He paid it no attention though, simply setting it on the table. They talked for a good 10 minutes or so, Fliss telling them all about their hotel and meal before the conversation turned to chatter of house hunting and how they needeed to step it up a notch really if they wanted to have a place before Bean was born, at which point Verity and Bill shared a glance and Bill cleared his throat
“We wanted to talk to you about that.” Bill said, looking at Fliss.
“Ok…” Fliss frowned, glancing at Frank where he sat to her right. She turned back to her parents. “Is something wrong?”
“No, quite the opposite.” Verity smiled as she glanced at Bill. Both of them looked at Steve then who smiled as Mary looked around.
“Is this one of those adult conversations?” she rolled her eyes and Frank nudged her slightly. Bill chuckled.
“It is kiddo, but you can stay.” he said, before he took a deep breath and leaned forward a little “Ok, so you know I handed the business down to Steve when we left England.” “Yeah…” Fliss looked at him as Frank’s eyes flicked to Steve who was lounging back in the whicker chair, smiling softy.
“Well, when I did that it was valued at just over 2 million pounds” he said and Frank felt his eyebrows shoot up into his head. He knew that Bill and Verity were affluent, but he hadn’t appreciated just how much.
“I know all this.” Fliss frowned. “I’m not following…” “Well, the deal was that I took a million out of the pot straight away, for me and your mum to retire on.” Bill said, “That didn’t leave a great deal of cash left in the accounts,  just enough to keep the cash-flow straight, the rest was tied up in the assets. But the other part of the deal was that whilst I was giving it to Steve, half of it was yours and as soon as he was able to he had to give you your share of the remaining value.” Fliss felt her mouth drop open as she wheeled around to look at Frank. “What? I…” “I never told you any of this, because I didn’t want that bastard getting wind of it.” Bill shook his head. “And obviously, we gave you what we could to set up your business and everything when you moved here, but…” “Basically, Titch, the last year or so the profits have sky rocketed.” Steve said. “And, as a result..”
Bill slid the envelope he had brought towards Fliss and she reached out for it with a shaky hand. Opening it gently, she pulled out a cheque and glanced down at the amount. Just short of four hundred and fifty thousand dollars.
Fliss swallowed, speechless, as she handed the paper to Frank who took a deep breath, gulping as he saw the amount.
“Holy shit…” Mary mumbled as she too read it, but no one payed her the slightest bit of attention, as Fliss broke the stunned silence that had fallen over her and Frank.
“Dad, Mum, I…” she looked up at him, tears in her eyes, “I can’t…” “So, you don’t need to fanny around with a mortgage or a bank loan when you find a house.” Bill smiled at her. “You’ve got enough to buy outright.”
“Bill, Verity, this…this is too much.” Frank looked at them both in turn, the tears stinging his eyes.
“Nonsense.” Verity scoffed “It’s Fliss’ inheritance.”
“I’ll sign a pre-nup.” Frank stuttered suddenly, “Anything, I…”
Fliss frowned as did Bill, and she turned her eyes to him “Why would I want you to do that?”
“That’s your money…” he protested. “Yeah, and I’m sharing my life with you…I’m having your baby Frank.” she said gently “I don’t need a pre-nup. You intending on leaving me?” “No of course not…” “Well then.” she said, simply, as if that settled the matter. And in her eyes it did.
“You’ll also still retain your shares.” Steve said gently, “Which means you’ll get the dividends each year and if things keep going the way they are, you might want to consider buying a few more sharpish. They’ll be worth a lot if we land this contract.”
Fliss nodded, taking the information in before she stood up and headed over to her dad who rose from his chair.
“Thank you. Thank you so much.” she said, her tears falling as he pulled her to him, wrapping his arms around her back.
“You’re my little girl.” Bill said, his voice choked “I’ll always see you right, you know this.”
She stepped back and turned to her mum as Frank shook Bill’s hand before the man pulled him into a hug.
“Just look after her.” he whispered in Frank’s ear. “I know I don’t need to say it but…”
“You have my word.” Frank pulled back and looked his future father-in-law in the eyes. “I’ll die before I let anything happen to her.”
“Does this mean we can get a house with a pool?” Mary piped up, from where she was now situated in Steve’s arms.
Frank looked at Fliss before they both grinned and he turned to Mary.
“Not sure.” he said “Don’t want you getting all spoilt now do we?”
“Fine…” she shrugged “I’ll just move in here. That’s ok isn’t it?”
“Of course.” Verity grinned “Although you do know if you do, its bed at 8 every night, no treats before dinner, no…” “Who are you trying to kid?” Mary scoffed “Frank says you’re both a pair of right soft touches.”
Frank groaned as Bill, Verity and Steve all sniggered and he shook his head at Mary who stuck her tongue out at him.
“You’re a pain in my ass, you know that?”
Mary simply shrugged and Fliss slid her arms round Frank’s waist and he pressed a kiss to her temple.
“So, house hunting starts tomorrow?” he asked, and she grinned nodding.
“You bet Sailor…”
“Ohhh we could buy a boat!” Mary said suddenly, and Frank paused.
“Actually, that would be kinda cool…”
“Yeah, I’ll buy you a remote control one to play with in the pool” Fliss grinned and Bill laughed as Mary let out a loud yell.
“See, Fliss want’s a pool…”
“Mary, for God’s sake…”
“Ok…Bean wants a pool” Mary grinned as Fliss looked up at Frank with a shrug and a smile.
“It would be kinda cool...” she said softly.
Frank simply snorted and shook his head.
“Are we out of milk?”
“We couldn’t possibly be out of milk.”
“I am looking in the fridge, and I don’t see any.”
“Darling, we went grocery shopping – ” Killian sighs and places his hands on his hips as he taps his foot. “Shit, when was the last time we bought food?”
Emma closes the refrigerator door and turns around before pulling her phone out of the waistband of her leggings, thumbing through the screen with her brows pinched together. “It says our last delivery order was April 13th. That was literally a month ago.”
“I mean, technically it was almost a month ago. Tomorrow it would be a month ago.”
“I would really love if you weren’t an ass right now because I’m hungry, and I really wanted a bowl of cereal.”
Killian shakes his head and steps up to Emma, moving into her space and placing his hands on her hips while his head dips down to her neck so he can kiss the skin there. There’s still the slightest hint of the scent of her perfume from last night, and it will never not be intoxicating. Emma will never not be intoxicating.
“It will take us five minutes to get milk, three if we run across the street instead of walking like civilized human beings.”
Emma hums and cranes her neck to give him more access to her while her hands wrap around his waist, nails scratching at his back. “And buy groceries in person like we’re living a decade ago? That seems like far too much effort.”
He nips at her skin in a place he knows she likes. “I’ll make you brownies if we go.”
“You really know the way to a girl’s heart.”
“I know the way to yours.”
“Ooh, that was cheesy.”
“We can buy cheese too.”
Emma scoffs and hits his back before moving her head so she can lightly brush her lips against his, quick and fleeting until it isn’t. Life is always nonstop, but once the season starts, it’s an entirely different ballgame. Literally. Either one or both of them are always on the road, and while their work generally happens at the same time, Killian has training and practice and PT while Emma has meetings that usually happen at the rare times when Killian is home. Then there’s the press Ariel has Killian doing lately, and it’s leaving very little time to stand in the kitchen and curl his tongue around Emma’s while her fingers tug on his hair.
Glorious. God, he always loves when she does that. Her hands are like magic.
“You’re very good at this.”
“Kissing you? I would hope so. Otherwise I don’t know why you would have stayed with me for this long.”
Emma’s smile presses into his. “Two years isn’t that long in the grand scheme of things.”
“Aye, but the marriage license we filled out last week says you’re planning on far more than two years.”
Her lips run across his jaw, and a shiver works down Killian’s spine and settles at the bottom as his jeans tighten. “Divorces work. I could divorce you the day after we got married if I wanted.”
“Would you?”
“I could. It would keep the marriage fresh and spicy.”
“I would really appreciate it if you never described our relationship using those two words ever again.”
“Why? That’s what all the old women tell me when they give me unsolicited relationship advice.”
“People not being able to shut their mouths is the exact reason why I didn’t want to announce the engagement.”
“We didn’t, ah – ” Emma’s body shivers at his touch and he smirks into her skin before his hands move down to her leggings, fumbling the slightest bit until he feels flesh. “We didn’t announce it. I started wearing a ring, and the tabloids put it together.”
“Fucking tabloids are the scum of the earth.”
Killian’s hand moves again as he gently nudges Emma back to the countertops, his lips and his teeth only ever moving away from her enough to speak. Her skin is so damn warm and softer than anything he’s ever felt, and he loves getting lost in her. It’s a high greater than any win.
“This doesn’t seem like we’re getting milk,” Emma sighs as he helps boost her up onto the countertop, “and you’re going to kill your knees.”
He arches a brow even though she can’t see it. “What makes you think I’m about to get down on my knees?”
“Because I know you, and I know what we’re heading toward.”
“Awfully presumptuous of you, Swan.”
“Ah, well, if that wasn’t what you were intending, I’d highly suggest it.”
Killian huffs and moves away from Emma’s neck until he’s kissing Emma, pressing his mouth against hers and drinking her in. He’s the luckiest bastard in the world, and for all of the good in his life, there is nothing better than Emma. She changed so much for him, continues to still do so, and he’d be happy to spend every day of his life with her just like this.
Just he and Emma.
Just them.
He pulls back from the kiss, sucking in a breath of air, before resting his forehead against hers. Her hands are still in his hair, his hands are on the outside of her thighs, and he can’t seem to focus on anything but the way her nose presses into his cheek exactly like it’s always belonged there, like it’s always fit there.
Like she’s always fit.
“Marry me.”
“What?”
“Marry me, Emma.” He smiles into her lips and then pulls back enough so he can see her eyes. They’ve always been a ridiculously gorgeous shade of green, but right now, they’ve somehow got a hint of blue. “Right now, today.”
Her hand runs through his hair until fingers are pressing against his cheek. “We have a venue booked for forty days from now, have spent far too long picking out cake because you’re a dessert snob, and I have a ridiculously expensive white dress in the closet. And you want to get married today?”
“I want to marry you every day.”
“You’re on it today with the romantic declarations.”
“Are you saying there’s a day where I’m not?”
“Oh, most definitely.”
Killian laughs before kissing Emma again. He can’t seem to stop that. “Well, while I’m having a good day for romantic declarations, why don’t we grab our marriage license, head down to the clerk’s office, and get married? Just you and me, Swan? It’ll be great. We can still have the big party with our family, you can still look gorgeous in that dress, but this would be – ”
“Just us,” Emma finishes for him. She pulls back and stares down at him, brows furrowed. “Are you serious? You want to get married today, twenty-nine? For real?”
“If you’d like. If not, we can wait. We have all of these other plans, and I don’t – ”
Emma smacks her lips against his and cups both of his cheeks. “Let’s get married today. Can you give me fifteen minutes to put some dry shampoo in my hair and change into clothes without stains?”
“What? You don’t want to get married looking like you do?”
Emma winks. “What can I say? I’m a woman of standards.”
Killian chuckles and moves away from Emma until she’s hopping down from the countertop and tugging her shirt down and her leggings up. Her cheeks are absolutely flushed, and she’s got the beginning of beard burn on her chin. “Oh, and twenty-nine?”
“Yeah?”
“I fully expect you to finish what you started here when we get back.”“I was planning on it.”
It takes more than fifteen minutes for them to leave the apartment. Emma decides to fix her hair and put on a little makeup while he takes a shower and trims his scruff, but a little under an hour later, their hands are intertwined as they ride down the elevator to the lobby so they can get a cab to the courthouse. He’d drive, but honestly, parking is awful, and his nerves might be a little too much for that right now.
He plays in front of thousands of people all the time, but he’s got nerves over marrying the woman he’s known he was going to marry since almost the beginning of their time together.
This is decidedly different than playing baseball.
This is not his job. This is his life, their life, and as beautiful as he’s sure Emma will look in her wedding dress that she and Elsa found, she looks just as beautiful now in a long pink floral dress. They’d both debated on jeans and a nice shirt, but then Emma had decided on this dress while he pulled on a pair of navy slacks and a white button-down. It’s as if they’re going on a date or having to dress up for work, but that’s not what it is.
Killian still can’t quite believe that they’re doing this on a random Wednesday when they had so many other plans.
Not that their lives have ever gone according to plan.
“What are we going to do about a witness?” Emma asks as her hand squeezes his over his thigh. “Should we call someone and see if they can show up? Oh shit. Are we telling our families we did this?”
“Do you want to tell our families we did this?”
Her leg starts bouncing. “Not really. I mean, I do, but I – ”
“Want to keep this just between us?”
“Yeah,” Emma sighs, resting her cheek on his shoulder, “I think so. David and Mary Margaret will probably be pissed if they ever found out.”
“Liam and Elsa too. Anna most of all. Oh, shit, Addy and Lucy really will be. We’ll definitely have to wait until after the wedding to tell them.”
“If we ever tell them.”
“Yeah,” Killian agrees, “if we ever tell them.  I’m sure we’ll be able to find someone at the courthouse to be our witness. I’m rather charming. I think I could convince someone.”
“Unless they’re a Red Sox fan.”
“We’re in New York.”
“That doesn’t mean anything.”Killian squeezes her hand, both to reassure Emma but also himself. “It’ll all be okay. If we can’t find anyone, I’d be happy to marry you tomorrow.”
It’s not long before they’re walking down the hallway of the city clerk’s office and then standing in line with at least ten other couples. Some are in dresses and tuxes, surrounded with families and friends, and Killian checks with Emma one more time to make sure there’s no wariness on her face over them having none of their loved ones here. All he can see is a beaming smile.
“Hey,” someone starts, turning to Killian, “are you – ”
“Aye.”
“Holy shit. Your 2019 win was just…damn, man. That was awesome. What do you think your odds are this year? I know last year sucked, but I’ve got hope for this year.”
“I think we’ve got a chance, but the season just started, you know? Anything can happen.” Killian reaches his hand out and shakes the man’s hand. “Killian Jones. And you are?”
“Ben McKinley. This is my wife, Caroline. We’re here for my brother and his soon-to-be husband.”
“It’s nice to meet you both. Say, Ben, can you do us a favor and be a witness for us since your brother is in line behind us?”
His brows go to his hairline. “Are you two here to get married?”
“Aye, but I’m afraid we didn’t bring anyone with us. You’d be doing us a big favor.”
“We’d love to do that,” Caroline adds in. “And Ben and I promise to be discreet.”
“Well, if it does leak, we’ll know how to find you.” Emma slaps his shoulder until he turns around to look at her. “What?”
“Did you just threaten them?”
He winks. Absolutely not.
It takes thirty minutes before their names are called, and then, within a blink of an eye, the ceremony is being performed and he and Emma are saying “I do.”
He never thought two words would feel so damn good.
He also never thought he’d have to politely be asked to stop making out with his wife in a courthouse, but life is full of surprises.
His wife.
It was all worth it. Every second of it. Of today. Of the past two years.
Everything.
“Hey, Jones,” Emma giggles as they walk out of the clerk’s office, hand in hand just like they’ve been for the past hour. They have new rings on their fingers, and he can’t stop running his thumb over Emma’s wedding band. He’s going to hate when they have to take them off, but it’s all worth it. “You do realize we’re still out of milk, right?”
His chuckle starts in his stomach and works its way all over his body, warming him more than the sun does. “Is that really what you’re focused on right now? Your cereal.”
“Oh, no,” Emma laughs, turning on her heels and wrapping her arms around his neck, “I was thinking of you making me brownies like you promised. I was also thinking of how much I love you.”
His hands settle on her hips. “What was winning in your mind? Your love for me or the brownies?”
“I feel like the answer will disappoint you.”
“Never.” Killian dips his head down and slants his lips over Emma’s, breathing her in. “I love you, even if you love brownies more than you love me.”
“Never,” Emma promises. “I think we’re going to have to run out of milk more often if it leads to days like this.”“I think we’re also out of eggs.”“Huh. Wonder what kind of trouble we’ll get into tomorrow when we go out to get the eggs.”
“Darling, I need eggs to cook the brownies. All this time, and you still don’t know basic recipes.”
Her smile is still the most brilliant he’s ever seen, and the blue is back in those green eyes of hers. “That’s what I have you for.”“Ah, so that’s why you married me.”
“It’s one of the reasons.”“What are the others?”
“Take me home, and you’ll find out.”
“I thought you’d never ask.”
