im gonna start working on my game for real very soon (just need to finish playing some video games cause i cant focus on more than one thing at a time) and i would rather post about it here than the bird site. i want to post about it because im pretty much starting from scratch here and if anyone has any advice i would like it. and also it just seems fun to me to post about when i have cool ideas or make dumb mistakes. i dont always know how to be properly interactively social but i want to just do things? and if you want to stop and watch and ask me questions, i will be pleased as punch

i dont know if ill ever finish this project and i especially dont know if ill ever publish anything or try to make money from it. i loved writing fic and i loved getting to share it and there was no money involved there. i want to keep that vibe going. soooo unfollow me now if you dont want to basically read the development diary of someone who doesnt know how to be a developer

as far as where i am now with it, ive been ~thinking~ about it a lot and if i know anything from writing fic its that thinking about your project constantly but not doing anything about it definitely counts as working on it. i did take a hefty chunk of time to learn C# and how to use unity but i havent touched either in a while so we'll see how much like riding a bike those are.

anyway. i have no idea how to design a game from scratch by myself, but i do know how to project manage because thats basically my day job. if i break it down into its parts, i can work backward from the end goal and figure out what i need to do to get there. sometimes those steps mean making stuff and sometimes theyll just mean learning how to do shit. this is going to take a long fucking time and learning how to do shit is never a waste of time imo

when i break it all down, the very first thing i think i need to do is get a decent outline of the story and its main branches. the visuals, audio, and gameplay will all stem from the narrative. the good thing is developing the story is the part of this im most confident about. i think im going to play around with using yarn spinner to build the story because branching narratives/player choice is going to be critical and i dont think my usual tools for writing a linear narrative are going to work.

[Section The Immortal Guys (do you have any idea how little that narrows it down) the guys who i write over generations and dont really have an ending to their stories because theyre here to be immortal]:

Morty:

"vee why dont you have normal wish fulfillment ocs". eternally undead (vaguely ungulate) skeleton guy who is basically only here as an observer to the world around them since they have all the time in the world to do so now. their backstory is ultimately irrelevant, they tend to deflect questions about themself but its kinda more because they dont like to draw attention to themself as theyve kinda distanced themself from being A Person over the years. this doesnt really mean theyre distant though, theyre here to watch the sun rise and the stars shift and find new and interesting people at their door and listen to their stories and have them over for dinner. they keep adopting mortals and i wish theyd adopt me. they cant feel warmth or sleep or eat the food they make or whatever but as long as theyre able to provide that comfort for others its a fair trade for being given time to appreciate the world and everything in it. also their name is technically a lie since its supposed to be just short for That Immortal Who Doesnt Pay Property Tax but it always bugs me to call them an immortal without an asterisk next to it but also its got emotional significance now as much as id like to change it. also i hardblocked somebody one time for (somehow genuinely, despite me prefacing with "my oc") thinking i was talking about rick and morty. so warning for that.

Mack:

sliiightly less developed as he was made more as a character to go With Morty more than anything (also im tempted to change his name since its kinda lame. its short for an angel name i found on wikipedia but who caaaares). vaguely ungulate (goatlike probably) angel with killable-type immortality and infinite respawns but in different places and times every time. kiiinda fallen but like, my version of heaven doesnt really care, they let him dick around on earth because he's at least out of their hair there. unfortunately this gives him infinite hedonism, hubris and no consequences as he has absolutely no reason to have any self preservation since he's ultimately here for funsies and has nothing to lose. he's probably a war criminal. anyway this Does end up changing as he meets morty and Keeps Meeting Morty and realizes every time he respawns somewhere he ends up Going Back to morty and aw fuck he has something to lose (even if its just temporary it takes a Good While to get back and more importantly leaves morty alone) and shit. goddammit. this is kind of enough of a kick in the head enough to get him to have any sort of self preservation and also some self Value and value in life as a side effect. good all around. nowadays hes a lot less uh. Wild. he takes notes on different places and times' fashion trends so he can mix them together in absolutely Criminal looking outfits for fun.

he and morty have a Weirdromantic relationship going on where they definitely love each other, but the type of love is different for the both of them (mack is Definitely romantic after a while, morty's is likely platonic but they're also just affectionate by default and actually do enjoy being loved so it works out plenty since they have. So much time to communicate about it.) but more importantly they're like. each other's only static points in time. they always find each other and they always have new stories to tell each other when they return and theyll have all the time in the world to tell it. thumbsup. i like them. they rarely have stories to their own though and are more just. always supporting characters in other peoples. and thats fine to both of em

I should like. make a group intro to my ocs list or something so you guys can at least vaguely know what the fuck I'm talking about at any time. these guys don't have visual refs I understand it's probably hard to visualize who the hell I'm talking about. bonus that I've only really made a specialized Lore Post for like one character and it's kind of outdated. there's not going to be a test on this

fav - 10000 volt ghost and the technicolor ghosts. ik theyre just recolors of the giggling green ghosts but THEYRE ICE CREAM THEMED!! the creepy heap from the deep is also scary to me like if i saw him i’d run. honorary mentions are the skeleton men bc theyre cyclops but scooby doo doesnt care about calling stuff what it is and i think its funny and also i like the pterodactyl ghost. this show had a lot of good monsters

How does the dynamic with Seriff and the other AU skeletons with? And how would they have met/how would their first meeting have gone (especially if he saw Classic Papyrus)?

*deep inhale* OKAY

So, in actuality, Seriff’s first meeting with other AU skeletons is Underfell. (Accident with Alphys and the Machine. Long Story.) And he stays with them long enough to get their machine fixed and get him home. He doesnt meet the Classic variants and other AUs until later (Error is the second one he finds out about) but since exposed to Underfell before, hes not really surprised. 

Even then he’s a bit of an outcast. He doesnt fit completely as a Sans counterpart, and he doesnt fit in the Papyrus counterpart either. The others are a bit baffled by him. Seriff is pretty uncomfortable with them too, so its hard for him to open up with everybody. Hes… an outcast. I guess thats why he gets along with Error and some others as well, because he knows the feeling of being rejected for not fitting in a certain bubble. 

 As for relationships… Ill just briefly describe a few of them. 

Fell Sans: Seriff cant help but want to laugh. LOOK AT HIMSELF!!!! HES SO FUCKING SHORT!!! HE LOOKS LIKE HES GOING THROUGH HIS METALLICA TWENTY ONE PILOTS PHASE. HE EVEN HAS A COLLAR!! I mean, so does he, but at least his was forced on him. However despite this they get along okay. By okay I mean they’re both assholes to each other. Red is irked that a variant of himself is so fucking tall, and nearly dies when he finds out that this variant is still a kid!  

Classic Sans: They interact once in a while, both like puns… and Grillbys.. yah thats about it. Seriff is quite different from his Classic counterpart (and most his counterparts in general). So, Sans just takes him in as another little brother. Gives advice when the younger needs it. Hes pretty protective of the Aussie considering hes only 17 and going through all the bullshit that a Sans goes through plus more (It doesnt take a genius to figure out why Seriff is there without his Papyrus)

Classic Papyrus: A Mother Hen, just more motherly than hen. He likes to try and tuck Seriff in at night and read him stories. He knows only a little of Seriffs problems from Sans, but not all. All he knows is the younger has insomnia like his brother, and that he has no brother. (He assumes he never had one… its best that way) So hes trying his best to give Seriff all the love and company he can while the younger is in his presence.

Seriff appreciates the thought, even if it is a bit suffocating sometimes.

Underswap Papyrus: Two words- Weed Buddies. That is all

Error: They’ve actually met before! When Error tried destroying his world. It didnt work out for him rather well. Seriff had the… element of surprise. He doesnt exactly have the normal abilities of a Sans, if you’ve noticed. However, Seriff see’s that Error cant exactly help himself (With the madness and all) and just spares him. Even tells him its okay to come back, so long as he doesnt try to destroy his universe again. 

 They like to watch Undernovela together. Seriff even acts as a translator sometimes considering his father had a Spanish accent/background.
