Yaknow, for someone that is so bad at strategy, I sure love spending a lot of time in the battle mechanics of any game. Anyway I've reached floor 14 in Tartarus and I know for a fact I won't be able to handle 15 since I had to use 3 gems to defeat the boss in it cuz Kotone is just lvl. 8 and the rest are lvl. 7 but I wanna... I wanna keep fighting... I'm a lil bit of a battle maniac.
#aria rants#i used like 2 mezio gems and that one gem i forgot the name of. it dealt 150 almighty dmg on the thing#which just saved me A LOT cuz that enemy was beating my ass and i... i didnt have enough items... specifically healing#ya see my problem here is that i rely too much on brute force that my only strategy is just doing dmg#if i was a party member in a rpg im like a tank built like a berserker or a healer built like a dps. a glass cannon if you will#im so bad at keeping myself alive cuz my only primary focus is killing the enemies fast enough before they can kill me

Remember when I said I was making a bandori rpg au? Well yeah that still exists and Im gonna talk abt some of my mechanics thoughts because I feel like it
Generally the basic mechanics still work the same as in the dr rpg au, with the primary changes being in relation to smaller combat party size and less options for team mates per party, with there being seven separate parties of five instead of one party with six slots and 16 or less units to chose from. What this mainly means is that while there's not rly options for who you get to use on any given party, I have made each individual unit much more flexible in their skillsets. That being said, that matters little to the story, especially since this will never be a real video game and these guys are ultimately gonna take whatever role they want regardless of if they're built for it or not dkfudmhdje. Now Im not gonna go through literally everyone, especially since I don't have stuff for everyone, but Im gonna talk a bit abt some of the people I have thought abt because I want to.
Good news for Kanon, she is very much provided with the strength to defend herself. Bad news for Kanon, shes basically only built for physical combat, with literally the only spells she able to learn being self buffing and self healing spells. Ideally, she would make for either a powerful glass canon, or a very heavily defensive tank sort of character, depending on what spells she picked up, but generally she doesn't really get to the height of either branch thanks to her not rly knowing what she's doing sjdykshx. That being said, early on I imagine she someone leans more into the defensive option, but I could see her eventually becoming more willing to be more offensive as her support based party members get better at their jobs and the situation gets a bit more serious. Shes one of the more limited units thanks to her being mostly forced into a melee role, but within that role she has the potential be a lot more self reliant than most units. She can also bite people
As for someone who very much doesn't stick to their ideal role, Eve acts as her parties main melee person for pretty much the entirety of the story, even as she learns to utilise the support magic she's much more built to use. Generally she's meant to be a pretty magic heavy support unit, capable of giving strong buffs and healing to allies, even the whole party at once with a little assistance. That being said, it's not that she can't do melee, just that it's not ideal since she can't actually apply most of these effects to herself. She still ends up incorporating magic into her combat, but mainly just to make magical weapons so she doesn't just have to use her talons.
Rimi is a bit of a weird one since she acts as sort of an extension of whoever's shadow she's occupying at any given moment. She can act on her own, but generally she works better acting with whatever party member she's the shadow of at the time, and I do think that's probably the route she'd end up taking once she realises that she can. What this means gameplay wise is that she'd be able to basically echo whatever action that person takes on their turn, and potentially add onto that action as well. For example, if she is using Eve's shadow in combat, she would mirror Eve's attack (albeit somewhat less powerful) before making a second attack of her own either drawing from Eve's attack stat or magic stat depending on what sort of action you assign her, so in this example it'd be smarter to draw from magic since that's what Eve would be better in. This isn't all she can do though, since it's also possible for her to inhabit an enemies shadow, although this would be done mostly for grappling since drawing from a host's power requires their consent. That being said, with some enemies or bosses it might really be worth it to limit the enemies actions, so there's that. Generally I feel like Rimi probably would fall into a more ideal build easily enough, since I doubt shed exactly be thrilled abt the idea of charging at something by herself. That being said, I doubt shed utilise the whole using an enemies shadow thing early on mainly because she probably would be worries abt what would happen if something she was shadowing got defeated before she could switch to someone else
Aaaaand this got real long oops. I was gonna talk abt the rest of their party, but I think I'll stop for now dkhxmduxkud. These three are the ones I have the most ideas for anyways, so it's fine
#rat rambles#band posting#oh god I definitely need to think of a tag for this au now huh#uhhh#idk Ill just use the basic rpg au tag for now#rpg au#if you dont know abt dr dont look through the tag and even if you do still dont preferably theres a lot of old art in there skfhmduck#besides these two aus wont be too strongly connected outside of some of the really basic concepts#also I swear I have actual story ideas but hypothetical game mechanics are fun to talk abt ok#they rly arent that relevant but I love brainstorming them
