turns out I wasn’t quite done yet
@scumerage I realised I wasn't satisfied with my response to you, so now I'm digging a bit. Found sales figures for season 2, and now I'm just looking at the enterprise from a business standpoint.
Fundamentally, the value of OPM lies in delighting the customer. It doesn’t make the customer rich. It’s not something they need. It’s entertainment. If they're not delighted, they won't buy. It's compounded by the fact that the anime has low to no-cost first view access. Unlike a movie theatre where you can at least charge people to watch new releases, most streaming services are very cheap -- or even free if you just want to watch the anime.
Just as movies don't make money on people who only go to the theatres to watch it once, the anime doesn't make any money on people who aren't invested in the story enough to either buy the Blu Rays or DVDs, or the merchandise and they'll only do that if they're really delighted.
So here's the business question: what does delight consist of?  Delight is when you get something that you expect and yet is also novel in a way that is pleasurable. We're very weird that way, we like the same but different.  How different stories create delight is a variable thing, but they have this element, especially when they run long.
The brand ONE created in OPM takes something very familiar -- strong man saves the world -- and makes it novel by looking at tropes in an unusual way and using it as a platform to explore the human condition. The crazy things that happen, the gags, and the bombast go on top of it.
Who is the customer? Even though it looks and smells a lot like a shonen story, its profitable audience skews older and more female than the usual shonen audience. It's an audience that prioritises quality over quantity. Failing to understand that is the big mistake Bandai did in rushing season 2 out. When Murata puts Zombieman on the cover of volume 17 because he recognises that a lot of the paying audience are women, he understands where his bread is buttered. If you don't understand who your customers are, you fail to sell.
The sales figures were really horrible for season 2 -- shifting 1265 copies of the 1st blu ray in the same time period that the season 1 had shifted 8865. Link https://www.reddit.com/r/OnePunchMan/comments/doi0l9/opm_season_2_volume_1_sold_1265_bd_copies/
You can tell that the sales didn't improve in two critical ways: near-total radio silence on official channels and the increasingly miserable extras included. OAV 6 looks like it was done by people who have all given up and just want to go home -- not a thing you associate with a successful franchise.
Whether or not they make an operating profit on season 2, their sales forecast has just been dragged round the back and shot.  Return on investment has tanked and what seemed like a cash cow is looking rather shaky.
Which brings us to mistake number 2: understanding the brand.
Natsume really got that brand. He approached OPM as a drama that was only secondarily about a superhero. And then he got together a great and talented cast of animators to really make it pop. A win on all fronts that brought what made OPM work to life in a coherent way. Even people who generally didn't do anime bought it.  So the brand the anime created was something of rarity and high quality in addition to the drama, the humour and the subversion of familiar tropes.
That is something Sakurai did not get. You can talk about characterisation and pacing and animation until the cows come home, but the biggest problem was a lack of a clear director's viewpoint. He could have taken a different point of view from Natsume and had it work, maybe lost a few people, but he’d have gained some more.  The lack of a clear vision and understanding of its brand really hurt and was the source of confusion from which everything else flowed.
Expectation and novelty. When you don't meet expectation, people don't buy in. Plain business. If you don't understand the brand and you don't understand the customer, you won't meet their expectation.
Why did Bandai do this? They’re not stupid. They’re not blinded by greed, let’s be clear on that. They have a business model based around regular availability which has worked well for most of their properties and failed to check if those assumptions were true with regards to OPM. They're right that in general, 'is it on screen' trumps 'is it any good' for a lot of properties, but OPM specifically is a manga that comes out in a hit-and-miss fashion and still has a large and loyal audience. They're not as availability sensitive.  Not checking who actually buys into OPM and how those customers might differ from their other properties is like selling Motorola phones to Apple customers on the basis that they’re both smartphones.
To make it worse, we come to another core business principle: stakeholder management.
It's no secret that JC Staff didn't have as good a working relationship with ONE and Murata as Madhouse did. It really shows in the OAVs – it’s so clear that ONE had less and less to do with them as they proceeded. However, it also translates onto the main story as they weren't as concerned with 'getting' where the author was coming from. Which is a problem as OPM isn't a straightforward story to adapt. It doesn't just follow one or two characters, so there's a lot of thought to go into what to emphasise and why. Who best to ask but the author? Natsume had a great working relationship with ONE, which combined with his great relationships with other people across the industry, led to a stunningly good season.
If Bandai greenlights season 3, they're going to have to find a studio and a crew who need to build a good relationship with ONE, which is all that time, time, time they didn't want to waste, but have wasted nonetheless.  You do business with people at the end of the day. Or they could just go crawling back to Natsume and see when he has time. Or Studio Bones, who also work very well with ONE.  Wherever they go, it’s going to take longer than they ever hoped for initially.
Here's the evillest kicker of them all. If I remember correctly, OPM season 2 was originally coming out next April, right? That's why they decided they couldn't wait that long and took the property away from Madhouse. But the next reasonable place for season 3 to stop is going to be out in print at the time that season 2 was going to run. If they'd not been so impatient, there'd have been one long wait and then we'd never be more than 18 months away from a new OPM season. As in not every year would see a new OPM season, but every season would be worthwhile with a good director who has a great relationship with the author and a consistent studio delivering that money-making delight.
Now, they're going to have to start afresh whenever it is that they make enough money to consider making another season. So there's two long-ass waits rather than just one.
Bad business for Bandai, a shame for us viewers.
That's business for you.
1. Check your business model assumptions.
2. Understand your brand.
3. Understand your customers.
4. You do business with people.
So, anyway, season 3. If they rush again and put out something that looks like a minimum viable product (if you like, ask and I’ll break down what that means for season 3’s story specifically) into a market that's made it very clear that it expects a premium product, they will never make another OPM season. They'll lose too much money.
I may stan characters, but I do more than just that.

I’m literally tearing up looking at healthcare plans here.
I’m being hired on full time at a company that I was originally contracted out to, and it feels like I’m suddenly entering an entirely different society. It’s the difference between lower class and middle class America.
My pay itself isn’t changing a significant amount, but the benefits and security and even just the way this information is being presented to me is universes apart.
I’m still trying to wrap my head around the fact that I can actually plan things more than a month in advance, because I now know that I’ll still have this job come November and December. I was taking things a month at a time, a week at a time; practically since I graduated in 2019 I’ve felt like nothing was certain in my life. In a way, I think this is why everything shutting down when the pandemic hit didn’t affect me much; I was already living in a state where everything felt temporary, and my circumstances could change and change fast. The simple fact of having a job I can depend on to support me is absolutely crazy.
Then, there’s the benefits. The contracting company I originally worked for had some “benefits”, but they were presented in a confusing manner that made me feel dumb for not knowing what these things all were and how they worked. I felt like I was a cog in a machine that they were legally mandated to provide the barest of insurance and breaks for, and they really only cared for my health insomuch that I would be able to continue working for them. They technically provided health insurance, but without an out-of-pocket max, could you really even consider it such? It was essentially a health care discount that you paid into ahead of time. What percentage of a procedure would they cover? Who knows! ‘Cause I sure didn’t.
I ended up turning to open market healthcare. I got myself a moderate plan that cost $220 a month with a $7,000 out-of-pocket max. This company that I’m being hired into? The most premium plan is $130 a month with a $2,000 max. The cheapest is $30 a month with a $6,000 max. That takes my healthcare costs from nearly 3 *days* worth of wages each month to the equivalent of somewhere between 2 and 9 *hours*.
Their benefits document is also put together in a way that makes me feel like they genuinely care about my health and well-being. They went out of their way to have a page just defining key terms like ‘copay’ and ‘pre-authorization’. They have web services to help me choose the right insurance plan for my needs. They have dental and vision and a 401(k) and a whole slew of other things like discounts on tax software.
Discounts on tax software. It’s utterly frivolous to be concerned about how much your employees are paying for good tax software, and yet they are.
But look at me. My job hasn’t changed. Where I’m working hasn’t changed. Who I’m working for technically hasn’t changed, and yet who employs me has made the world of a difference.
My access to health care? My ability to save for my future? My ability to *plan* for a future? Those were things I had to fight for the last two years, and without the help and advice of my parents, I probably wouldn’t have had health insurance at all for the last several months; or — worse — I wouldn’t have realized that the company offering me health insurance without an out-of-pocket max was screwing me over.
And yet, suddenly being employed by someone else, I’m offered all these things on a platter with a manual on how to use them.
Our system is designed to keep people from the bottom of the economy on the bottom, with uncertain employment, a lack of options, and a lack of information and resources. It’s really hard to save up money for a better future, to even spare the thought process for what a better future might *be* or how to get there, unless you know someone on the other side to offer you perspective on how you *should* be treated and how to get that treatment. To truly be able to make anything more with yourself than you already are, an opportunity practically needs to fall into your lap, either through luck or privilege. And let’s just say that as a white, college-educated individual who grew up with supportive, middle-class parents, and through all this didn’t have rent or student loans to worry about, it wasn’t luck that gave me this change of circumstances.
We need to change this. Service industry workers, contractors, and gig workers are consistently screwed over. Medical expenses are the number one cause of debt in our economy.
Unionize.
Provide Universal Health Care.

Interview : Dr Will Kirby, Dermatologist
Tumblr media
Dr Will Kirby is a board-certified dermatologist and the Chief Medical Officer for the nation's leading aesthetic dermatology group, LaserAway.
1) Who/what inspired you to become a dermatologist?
From a very early age I was attracted to science because, for as long as I can remember, I’ve had a lifelong love affair with nature. But I was a late bloomer in the field of medicine and didn’t become a dermatologist until later in life. See, I wanted a career that allowed me to work with my hands as well as my brain and it took me a while for me to realize that specialization in dermatology would allow me to be both technical and cerebral. To wit, I’ve always incorporated artistry into everything I’ve ever done so I’m very fortunate that my life journey has led me to the field of aesthetic dermatology specifically. But there is a misconception that when someone is considered an expert in his or her field, their rise was preceded by a bolt of inspiration but that is just not always the case; While some passions are erupt spontaneously through an inspirational moment, others just evolve slowly and grow over time…and the latter was certainly true for me.
2) Laseraway is the biggest aesthetic dermatology group in the nation. Could you tell us what someone who visits a Laseraway clinic can expect?
You don’t became the nation’s leader in aesthetic dermatology by accident. We take a tremendous amount of pride in customer service and offer only the highest quality, cutting-edge technology. With 13 board certified dermatologists and more than 450 allied health care professionals, our medical acumen is unparalleled and when you add in a commitment to patient safety, you having the winning recipe for the highest level of patient satisfaction. To answer the question, from the time a patient enters a LaserAway clinic until the time they leave, they can expect the absolute best care in the aesthetic dermatology industry.
3) Tell us a bit about the selection process when you’re thinking about offering a particular procedure at your clinics?
It is important to note that aesthetic dermatology is a nuanced business and that with injectable aesthetic treatment and energy-based device procedure hyperbole is ubiquitous while quality, reproduceable results are rare. As such, our vetting process is detailed and thorough. That said, we leave no stone unturned meaning we try absolutely everything but LaserAway never offers fad treatments, trendy procedures, or jumps on the bandwagon. Any patient visiting us rests assured that they are getting gold-standard treatments from the best injectables and devices available.
4) Your skin looks amazing! Could you walk us through your skincare routine?
I detect no lies - my Skin does look amazing and I fully acknowledge that fact! LOL. But you, or anyone else reading this interview, can have amazing skin too! There isn’t some sort of special potion that I have that's unavailable to the population! I just use good quality products very, very consistently and I supplement them with energy-based device treatments at LaserAway!
So allow me to lay out my simple skincare routine:
In the evening I wash my face with a gentle wash and warm water. It really doesn’t matter what wash you choose and anyone who tell you differently is misleading you. Washes just simply don’t matter much as they aren’t in contact with your skin long.
After letting my face air dry or after drying it with a hair dryer on the cool setting I apply a pearl sized amount of My Hero. It's a retinol serum that increases surface cell turnover. See, human adult skin cell turn over takes, on average, one to two months to completely replenish itself and retinols speed this process up but I still remind everyone that you have to use retinol products for a minimum of eight weeks before you start seeing a result. If you are consistent then your skin will eventually look smoother, softer, and more supple with the use of a nightly retinol.
Each morning I gently cleanse my skin with either cleansing wipe or again with a wash.
I then apply a sun protection product with a minimum of an SPF 30 rating. If I’m going to the beach then I use an outdoor product  like a SunScreen Stick from SkinBetter but if I’m just going to work I use something like Alastin HydraTint.
And now please allow me please loudly emphasize two points:
A) Most people use way too many products! So, If you haven’t used a product that you in own in the past six months them you should discard it! Only purchase products you need and love and don’t purchase every single thing you see!
B) You can spend a lot of money on good products or a small amount of money on good products! So, don’t think you have to break the bank to get the right products in your bathroom!
5) You’ve recently launched your very own line of skincare. What made you formulate your own range and how does it differ to what’s currently available in the market?
Like many dermatology practices, we used to curate products from a variety of different skincare companies and offer them for sale to our patients. But that was a source of extreme frustration for us because while we really, really liked many of the products, we simply didn't love any of them for our patient population. See, we listened to our patients: We recognized that they were our best advocates and that their number one priority when selecting products to purchase and take home was the ability to maintain their excellent in-clinic treatments results longer. As the leading aesthetic dermatology group we eventually acknowledged that we needed to carve out the time and money to create a skincare line that was formulated with the goal of complementing our in-clinic services. And thus, after many years of patient focus groups, skincare research and laborious testing, LaserAway Beauty was born!  So, to answer to more concisely answer your question, there are many, many great skincare products available in the market but laserAway Beauty Products the single best choice for patients already receiving energy-based device delivered aesthetic dermatology treatments… and that's the differentiator in this saturated skincare market!
6) What are some of the in-office treatments you get on a frequent basis?
I am the least hypocritical dermatologist you’ll ever meet! See, I practice what I preach and in the interest of full transparency, I get an IPL (intense puled light) treatment every six months and I typically get a Clear + Brilliant every two months and alternate with a Fire & Ice Laser Facial every two months as well.
7) What kind of patients do you turn away, if any?
The bane of any aesthetic dermatology practice is the patient with unrealistic expectations. Any reasonable person recognizes improving skin fitness it takes time, energy, emotion, and a commitment. But we live in a society of instant gratification and the truth is that some patients aren’t going to be satisfied because they want impossible results. When we realize someone isn’t going to be a good fit we provide them with appropriate education and polity, but quickly, turn them away.
8) In regards to the future of dermatology, what are you most excited about?
If you ask me to predict the future, I’ll politely ask you to review the past. See, the word ‘doctor’ is derived from the Latin word ‘docēre’ which means “to teach”. So, while I am a board certified dermatologist, I’m more importantly a teacher and my job is to educate. Mentoring is a time-honoured tradition that many in the field of aesthetic dermatology seem to have forgotten but I strongly suspect that the future of dermatology will see a return to the placing a premium on education and that's why I train not only dermatology residents, but registered nurses, physicians assistants, and nurse practitioners. To get more granular, I’m of course predicting that our field will continue to evolve from a technical standpoint but I also strongly believe that we’ll also see a return to mentorship so future clinicians will have a well-balanced, more individualized aesthetic educational foundation upon which they can grow personally and professionally.
9) For someone who’s on a budget, what are your tips for great skin?
If you were trying to improve your athletic fitness level, you wouldn't start off by buying the most expensive athletic shoes, immediately running a marathon, and then expect to wake up the day after with the perfect body. Well, the same analogy applies to skin fitness. See, improving your skin or maintaining already great skin doesn't have to be expensive but it does take a commitment and patience. I always implement a hierarchal approach utilizing the least expensive and most effective options coupled with education and encouragement. We know that UV exposure is awful for your skin so start by immediately committing to strict  sun avoidance on the face via a wide-brimmed hat, sun glasses, and a daily SPF product. At night simply start using a retinol product. It really is that simple. Start with those two easy, inexpensive concepts and then slowly educate yourself and expand to more exotic offerings from there!
10) Can you leave us with some words of wisdom? What else should we know?
I’d be remiss if I didn’t bow down to my teammates. While our clinicians are the best in the business, our legal, human resources, service/tech, marketing, patient outreach, sales, and executive teams all kick ass too. LaserAway makes this look real, real easy but our company is the amalgamation of the best individuals in the dermatology industry and you will not find a group of more intelligent, ethical, hardworking, dynamic individuals. Life is too short to work with people you don’t love and I’m of the strong opinion that the main reason that LaserAway is supremely successful is because of our corporate culture! I jump out of bed every morning excited to see what Team LaserAway will accomplish!

Cutie Reviews: Tokyo Treat July 19
Hello all, welcome to July’s Tokyo Treat review!
Besides the fact I’m in a different place taking these pics, I don’t have anything else to say so we’ll just get straight into it.
Tumblr media
Also, because I accidentally cut it off, July’s theme is Life’s A Beach.
“With warmer weather on the horizon we were feeling super inspired to bring you a summery box filled with snacks ready for a beach day! This month you’ll be receiving a lot of fun treats and a taste of summer in Japan. We hope this yummy selection of sweet and savory snacks inspires you to go outside and enjoy your treats in the summer weather!“
So in my rush to get these pictures ready, I ended up not getting the Prize or Lucky Treat pictures. So to summarize, Lucky Treat heavily focuses on Kindom Hearts with a dash of Pokemon. While I was lucky enough to win the September one, I can’t deny that this would probably have been the other one I really wanted. Meanwhile, July’s prize features figurines of Sanji and Trafalgar Law (my favorite characters, along with Luffy, Ace, and Perona) in One Piece, and some smaller Pokemon figures for the runner-ups.
As usual I won’t be reviewing the DIY candy kit (see top pic) because we’ve had it several times before and I think I already covered it on the blog anyway.
-------------
Melon Cream Soda
Tumblr media
(Sorry the stand is a mess, this pic was last-second and I was in a hurry, and no the drink in the background is not the same one as on top, it’s cola).
Perfect for summer, we have a refreshing melon cream soda. It’s a really pretty pastel green color, and it’s very foamy on the top which helps emulate the cream soda vibe. It smells like fizzy melon candy (and tastes like one too), and it’s very light and refreshing with a small hint of vanilla in the background.
If you don’t like melon then you probably wouldn’t like this- but if you do then I think you would love it.
Crushed Poteco 4-Pack
Tumblr media
If you read the blog before then you will recognize these; we get them fairly often and I won’t be reviewing these because I’ve done it a handful of times.
They’re cute, tasty little potato rings with a slight saltiness, but as good as they are I’m pretty sick of them <_< I actually gave all of mine away because I really didn’t want them.
Soda Soft Candy & Sherbet Perot Cider
Tumblr media
I love soda candy and I can’t think of anything more lovely for warm summer weather than cooling, refreshing blue sweets~
First we’ll start with the Sherbet Perot Cider, the equivalent of the cola-flavored lollipop with fizzy candy that we got either back in May. It consists of a neutral-lightly sweetened lollipop with powdered candy you can tip it in, giving it a vaguely fizzy and sweeter, almost sour taste. This specific one is 44.5 calories.
Much like the cola one, I think it’s really yummy. I love the taste of the powder with it especially because in my opinion the lollipop on its own isn’t sweet enough- but like the cola one, I find myself completely forgetting about the powder and just sucking on the candy.
------
The other soda candy we got are these cute spherical soft candies. But what makes them special is that they have a hint of lemon for an additional pinch of sweetness~
The entire bag is 63 calories, which seems about right since you get a handful of them. The pamphlet describes these as sweet and sour, but unless you let them sit in your mouth for a few minutes, you taste no sourness- and honestly, they didn’t taste as good as they do if you just chew them up from the beginning.
Mini Chocolate Bat
Tumblr media
Next up is an item I’ve had before, but it’s been a really long time so that’s not too bad. These have been around for a long time now if I recall, but I’m not sure if they’re popular. For the entire box (or one stick, not sure) its 51 calories, and each crunchy stick is coated in a thin layer of chocolate, they remind me a lot of those yellow cake donuts... if they were stale and hard.
These aren’t bad or anything but they aren’t sweet either. I love dark chocolate and I can appreciate not having a sugar buzz as much as the next person, but sometimes you just want sugar too, you know? I feel like this would be good with coffee though, and it was nice of them to give us a box, making them a nice little item to bring to a get-together with a friend or two.
Chocolate Mint Candy & Peach Mint Kit Kats
Tumblr media
To go with all of our refreshing green and blue sweet snacks, we got two more, but these are of the mint variety!
Our first item is inspired by delicious Hokkaido mint chocolate ice cream (my favorite~!) and takes the form of a spherical hard candy. I know the picture makes it extremely hard, but the candy actually has brown dots covering them to emulate the ice cream. The inside is filled with a cooling white powdery substance, but you don’t have to wait until you get to the center, because there is a tiny hole in the candy allowing the flavor to seep out.
Per-candy or bag (I certainly hope bag), the calories are 290.
These are very yummy but I’m not sure they would be enjoyed by those who aren’t big on choco-mint. They mostly taste like chocolate with a hint of mint, and I really like the cooling effect. The hardness of the coating seems to vary between candies though, because I noticed the first one I could bite through the middle no problem, but the second one was a lot more difficult.
-----
Next up is another kit kat like usual. As much as I like these I tend to get tired of them too, but I believe last month we didn’t have one so it isn’t that bad. Anyway, this is a PREMIUM kit kat blend, which means its slightly more special or pricey or something. Each pack is 63 calories, and i love the pretty mix of pink and mint on the packaging~
Before getting these, it never occurred to me to think of a combination like mint x peach. I thought it sounded strange. The outside chocolate oddly resembles cookies and cream while the inside is pure mint, and they are deliciously amazing!
As I said, it sounds unusual, but it’s really good. As soon as you bite into them you get hit by the refreshing peach, followed by a combination of mint until you’re left with a cooling sensation. I recommend these if you can find them!
Anpanman Grape Gummies & Sour Peah Gum
Tumblr media
Our refreshing fruity theme continues with these two fun, colorful candies. I’ve had these both before so I don’t think I have too much to say, I’ll start with the Anpanman. These are fun grape-flavored gummies that come in 24 various poses and characters, and each pack is 62 calories.
I was really confused with these, because of summer and them being gummies I assumed they would be inedible because they were stuck to the plastic/wax paper. But it turns out the paper can dissolved! It’s very weird, but my mom pointed it out while I explained my issues with it, and while having them in my mouth it would just slide right off. I wasted half of the pack until finding this out <3< but I am very glad I did because I wasn’t very impressed when I opened them.
------
Next is a really fun gum roulette candy that came out a couple of years ago :3 Basically, you have 3 gums (I’ve tried a few flavors so far, but Peach is the only one I’ve had twice now) and each one is different: one is sour, one is sweet, and one is normal. There’s no physical way to tell them apart, nor do they have a scent (except for what the flavor is, in this case peach). The only way to find out which is which is to chew them.
I like sour candy, and I also love sweetness, so this is really fun and the gum quality is pretty good, but the flavors only last a few minutes. This was how I felt about each piece:
Sour - It gets worse the more you chew. I love sourness but Japanese sour candy seems to involve salt; my mouth was starting to feel an extremely faint numbing burn. I never really considered myself a wimp when it came to sour candy but this stuff is on another level; but because it died down fairly quickly, it wasn’t unbearable.
Normal - Sweet and a little cooling. It actually didn’t taste too much like peach but the sour might have ruined my taste buds at the moment :P
Sweet - A lot like the Normal piece, but slightly more peach-ish.
Umai Sugar Rusk & Sour Cream and Onion Doritos
Tumblr media
Recognize the guy on the Sugar Rusk package? He’s our adorable Umaibo friend (by the way, am I the only person who thinks he resembles Doraemon a little?), but now he’s featuring a sweet rusk snack. Each pack is 209 calories.
I don’t usually like rusk snacks, but these are tasty. They’re light, crispy, and sweet with a hint of butteryness. The calories for this are high but they’re delicious, would recommend.
-----
Now, where I live Doritos are not uncommon. We have tons of flavors (my favorite being the original, and the sweet and spicy), at one point we even have mix-flavor bags. I really miss those, but I never met a Dorito I didn’t like so I was excited to get to try something new. Each bag is 277 calories.
These are based on sour cream and onion, which is not something new to me. I used to really like it and the dip with the same flavor, but besides these foreign things I get lately I don’t actually eat too many chips- except for when I’m in the mood for some Doritos since it’s actually my favorite American brand.
These taste really good. Pretty different from the sour cream and onion I’m used to though; they have a garlic-onion-ish taste and while I hate onions (mainly the texture of them), that didn’t really bother me. They actually kind of remind me of the cool ranch Doritos.
Tonkatsu Sauce Umaibo & Texas Corn Okonomiyaki
Tumblr media
(This pic is different because my original was corrupted, which I discovered when I went to save it to my computer.)
Our final 2 items of this months box is a delicious Umaibo I’ve had a few times. It’s Tonkatsu (breaded pork cutlet) sauce flavored and it’s AMAZING. It’s my second favorite Umaibo flavor behind corn potage, I really recommend this one if you ever get a chance to try it out.
The flavor itself I can’t really describe, but it has a hint of spice. I want to say it’s a bit like a smoky barbecue-soy sauce? It’s not salty though.
----
Lastly is a bag of Texas Corn snack in Okonomiyaki flavor. Okonomiyaki is an Asian Dish best known as a savory pancake. It’s a combination of dough and vegetables, sometimes with meat (bacon is pretty popular), noodles, or seafood, then its fried and covered in things like sauce or pickled vegetables.
These smell kind of similar to the Umaibo, but with a tangy addition and it’s very strong- but the flavor itself is extremely light, it gives me a plain dough (and this next part will sound crazy) and apple cinnamon...
Yeah. I don’t know what I’m on these days o_o
♥ Cutie Ranking ♥
Content - 3.5 out of 5. I nearly-loved everything, but I am scoring it down because there was a handful of repetition and two items I refuse to forgive for seeing again for the millionth time. Call me petty but when I look at the content featured in Japan Crate’s box, I feel like its kind of a rip-off because they always have a bunch of unique new types of items in the boxes.
Quality - 4.5 out of 5. Everything was fine, items were good and tasty and nothing was damaged (including my umaibo, which lately has been suffering), while everything but one item held up being open a bit late, a couple of them went stale fairly quick after opening. BUT they still tasted decent so I didn’t entirely mind. I’m only mentioning this because I’m not a person who inhales everything at one or shares them with others. My snacks tend to last a while.
Theme - 2 out of 5. I thought they kind of failed this time around. The theme was perfect for summer, but when I think of the beach I think of flavors like pineapple, mango, coconut (I hate coconut so I am thankful none of that was included), other fruits, and maybe grilled flavors. The mint, soda, and melon flavors were great for the theme to provide a refreshing and light taste, but I wish they had played that up some more.
Total Rank: 6 or 7 out of 10. Lately the boxes are improving I think, I keep liking them more and more and I really loved this one (with the exception of the poteco rings and the DIY, they’re good but I’m just tired of seeing them!). The flavors are all very yummy, but the items correspondence with the theme needs some work. Let’s see if they do better next month with our last of the 3 summer boxes this year :3
♥ Cutie’s Scale of Yummy ♥
1. Tonkatsu Umaibo - It’s a unique flavor but it’s so good! I can only imagine what the real sauce tastes like~
2. Soda Soft Candy - Soft candy is much better than hard in my opinion, I love candy like this. They tasted so good x3
3. Sour Cream and Onion Doritos - I love Doritos and these were no exception- I do wish the flavor didn’t linger in the mouth so long, but it’s not horrible.
4. Sugar Rusk - These are like the sugar rusk Umaibo, and they’re very tasty.
5. Peach Mint Kit Kat - I love the pink and mint pastel color scheme and for such a unique sweet combination, I thought they were perfect together.
6. Sour Peach Gum - Delicious, but the flavor dies down very quickly. I like the texture of the gum.
7. Sherbet Perot Cider - Very yummy, but I wish the lollipop was a little sweeter.
8. Chocolate Mint Candy - I’m not big on hard candies like I used to be, but these are unique and I love the cooling effect.
9. Anpanman Grape Gummies - I love grape and I thought they were too cute not to eat~
10. Melon Cream Soda - It was really good but when I have melon things I feel like I have a point where I lose interest. I’m glad I split this with someone else because I’m not sure I would have drank the entire thing on my own.
11. Texas Corn Okonomiyaki - I like the texture but the weird apple cinnamon cereal vibes I was getting weirded me out.
12. Chocolate Bat - I hated these initially but the ore I ate the more bearable I found them.
13. Poteco - I’m extremely over these... thankfully I know people who like them or aren’t as picky.

Midwest Furfest 2018 Straw Poll
This is not science. I counted people’s hands in a video, rapidly, without double checking. The population sample was not randomized and changed throughout the polling. I did not re-ask questions after clarifying. None of this should be taken at face value as factual. Furscience.org does an okay job with demography. Ask them if you have real questions about furs. I’m here to yell at 30 people in a room and pass out napkins.
Every once in a while, I decide to host a panel at a fur convention just to shake up the basic attendee routine for myself. This year I submitted four panels to the Midwest Furfest programming team. This is the one panel they accepted, passing on an African Wild Dog meetup (unforgivable), a discussion of amorphous sexual identity (slightly more forgivable), and an ersatz talk show on furry political drama (submitted mostly to see where they draw the line). It was tempting to just mash those other topics into one power hour but, as a self-respecting pseudoscientist, I instead performed the task proposed. Here are the results.
20 to 30 people found their way to the bottom floor of the Hyatt Regency O’Hare, walked through a door marked “Tech Center”, hung a right past a water cooler, then sat down in one of four stair-stepped rows of mesh back chairs. I didn’t check ID’s, so it’s entirely possible none of them were here for the convention but instead arrived in this room by random chance. 5 minutes past the hour, I instructed those present that this was the Straw Poll panel: that I would make statements and then raise my hand, at which time they would decide whether to raise their own hands in agreement. For example:
Each participant was also greeted with an unmarked Paw Patrol napkin. As a method of free response, I asked them to please write or draw something on it with the provided Sharpies. These are the results.
Analysis
Two goats: one lovingly rendered in profile, the other spelled out with descriptive adjectives (“GAY”, “Trans”). Combined with a small horse what appears to be a llama-class creature to my eye, this is a grand total of 4 ungulates. As with last time, a lot of gay self-identification as well as one entreaty to be gay. I was once again accused of looking like Owen Wilson. One person appears to have written their full actual name on the napkin, though this could be a head fake. I see only one “““mature””” drawing in the bunch: a relatively tamely proportioned sheath with “Sheathes 4 Lyfe” written next to it. Whether this is a lifelong passion for the writer or a characteristic of sheathes themselves is unclear. Two people drew ASCII emoji’s (“OwO” and “¯\_(ツ)_/¯ “), a direct breach of the internet/real-life barrier that spells doom for us all. One fish. Significant amounts of overlayering on the Paw Patrol graphics: black eyes, two cat faces, an eyepatch, a pig snout, a spinoff series called Mow Patrol. This kind of additive creativity pervades our now meme-governed culture. More will be added here as new patterns emerge.
Fistbumps
Everyone was asked to turn to the person next to them and perform a fist bump. Several styles were observed:
The Bread Loaf scale
In the interest of expanding the purview of science, the Machination Log implemented an experimental bread loaf scale for certain items. Participants were asked to raise their hand when the number of slices raised corresponded to their level of identification. The operational variable in this case was Brownberry Premium Italian.
7 of 27 participants claim to have experienced a phantom limb. 2 claimed to feel 3 or more; both believe this has improved their lives.
7 out of 26 consider themselves to be “on the spectrum”.
9 out of 26, after a lot of drawn out “ehhhhhhh”s considered themselves to be sexual deviants (the term was deliberately not defined).
16 out of 26 like to pet people who are dressed up like animals.
19 out of 26 like to be pet by people who are dressed up like animals.
The farthest flung attendee in the room was from Los Angeles. The closest were two people who both drove 40 minutes to get to the hotel; they didn’t claim to know each other.
12 out of 28 “Pokemon Go’d to the polls in 2018”.
The participant with the coolest pet in the room had a sugar glider. They also had a variety of other animals including guinea pigs and hamsters.
15 out of 26 have considered moving to a reclusive commune consisting entirely of furries or other kindred folk.
It took 11 out of 26 longer to get their badge than it did to commute to the con itself. In case you weren’t there, this picture of one half of the registration line should help explain the query:
Applause scale
For this section, we have an audio clip documenting audience enthusiasm for a variety of subjects. They include Kirby, Incineroar, bagels, representative democracy, Spanish nationalism, curling, the live-action remake of Cowboy Bebop on Netflix, Neon Genesis Evangelion on Netflix, Jib Kodi, dogs, cats, bread, ears, tails, haunches, snoots, paws, and maws. Feedback for this section is subjective, so we recommend auditors take a listen and come to their own conclusions. (If I find my drawings of paws and maws and such I’ll post them here; not sure where they wandered off to).
So, what did we learn? What practical lesson can we take away from the science?
Consumption-based trends in the fur community don’t last very long. Bronies were absolutely a thing in 2015 and not one walked in the room this time. We are a self-determining style of folk.
Fist bumps have a serious diversity crisis, with most participants not even bothering to “spice it up” with an exit strategy. The data recommends a 6-month re-education boot camp on the subject for all Americans.
Bread is a more contentious and confusing grading scale than anticipated, despite audience enthusiasm for the substance itself.
For a community that isn’t directly about being gay, furs remain—on balance—pretty gay.
Brown liquor was the most popular alcohol by a slim margin. Twice as many people would consume decaf coffee as dirt, despite those being the same thing.
Twice as many people prefer the bottom half of their fursona to the top half. This will require some additional exploration in a future installment.
Everyone is bad at high fives sometimes.
Furry art and furry pornography are not seen as overlapping magisteria and more people considered themselves well-versed in the latter than the former.
Paws are better than maws. We already knew this to be true going in, but replicability is important.
Naps are great and no one takes enough of them.
Until next year, or whenever.

A New Doctor
Cycle 9, Day 10
So, I now have at least a half-dozen physicians on my case. If you believe the BMJ stat that “medical misadvenure” (which is a broad category that includes, but is not limited to, doctor error, nursing error, pharmacy screw-ups, misdiagnosis, accidental overdose/drug interactions, opportunistic infections - the list goes on) is the third-leading cause of death in America (according to the same study, heart disease is #1 and cancer is #2). So, for those for those of you setting odds on my life expectancy (and, frankly, I’d be disappointed if you didn’t), it’s been an odd, extended game of “Clue,” except I’m Mr. Body, to see if disease, side-effects, or my possibly-insane physicians will get to me first. I hate to say it, but I think I’ve finally figured the odds-on favorite in this one: my GP.
This isn’t a plea for help, or even a serious medical development on my part, it’s a warning for you, the readership, as insurance enrollment comes around. First of all, if you can’t pay, hospitals or physicians can throw you out on the street (this is something able-bodied people are so disbelieving of that took a poor black woman freezing to death on-camera in Baltimore). They are only required to treat you if you in an emergency situation, thanks to some federal laws called “EMTALA.”If you have a disease that drives you to the emergency room, the prognosis gets worse. People tend believe that just because it’s the healthcare industry, the health insurance industry isn’t a corrosive force that has a vested interest in denying care and killing you. Which is odd to me; you don’t get this anywhere else (or I haven’t experienced this sort of self-delusional attitude); you don’t see people defending McDonald’s or Nabisco or RJ Reynolds or Exxon as having their best interests at heart (and, to my friends who think they’re bullet-proof because of their health insurance, read the fine print, very, very carefully; you don’t want to get a nasty shock as you’re being rolled into the OR). So, thanks to my parent’s generosity/desire not to see me die, I rolled in last year with a very expensive PPO (there are a lot of acronyms to keep track of, but PPOs allow the patient to see anyone in a preferred provider network, which tend to be large and give the patient lots of choices, so you can directly get a referral to a neurologist if you hit your head). Unfortunately, because I have pre-existing conditions (and to my bullet-proof friends, read through the list of pre-existing conditions that’ll disqualify you, your jaw will drop)(also, it’s telling that Congressmen and Senators have the option to buy into a separate, federal employee health insurance option that’s not available to us serfs)(it’s also telling that the ACA required Congresscritters, for the first time ever, to tough it out and find health insurance like their constituents)(which is why I assume all the GOP higher-ups had melt-downs over the ACA - a slight removal of privilege to help sick constituents isn’t a part of Congressional ethos, let alone job description), my premiums went from “expensive” to “leasing a sports car” within a few months. I’m extraordinarily grateful to them for providing that financial backing, because it allowed me to continue getting treatment during the crucial 6-10 week GBM post-diagnosis period that might turn this from “Guaranteed doom” to “far too close for comfort.” So, this did give me some time to do my homework (in writing about this, I’m realizing I really should consider applying to law school, because I’ll know more about medical and insurance law and ethics than some lawyers before this is up)(Hell, I probably know more than some of them right now). Anyway, I found that all the specialists I see for cancer, do take medicaid (even the specialized pharmacy I use at the cancer center). Which is good for me, especially since being on disability in California is an automatic qualification for Medicaid. Now for the bad news; although all the specialists there take medicaid, the GPs don’t. AND the specialists only take medicaid if it’s done through an HMO carrier that the state sub-contracts with.
Great Kraken’s Balls.
There are a number of documentaries and documents (including an “Adam Ruins Everything” segment) on why HMO’s are unnecessary and lethally incompetent (like many other aspects of a for-profit medical system), but here’s the most basic deal: They act as a gate-keeper for the entire medical-industrial system. You can get your care at any of a dozen pre-approved hospitals, and nowhere else. Now, if an HMO or their doctors can’t treat you (or refuse to treat you - which is still the case for a lot of GBM patients), they are required to send you to a specialist who can. The economic incentive is to give less care, and keep all the patients in the system for as long as possible.
I suspect that delaying tactic is why heart disease and cancer are considered so deadly - you can’t sit long on either of those.
So, based on the financial folks at the cancer center, I picked one, and promptly forgot about it; because I’m already in the system there (the receptionists and pharmacy staff recognize me on sight)(which is comforting, until you realize it’s a cancer center, and then the panic briefly cuts in until you remember you’ve gone eight months without regowth or metastastis). I only remembered it when I got a call from the medicaid HMO telling me I should schedule an appointment with one of their physicians. This isn’t a big deal, I just need them to sign-off on any further black magic-based treatments with the Warlocks or Radiation Oncologist.
Now, before I go further, let’s talk about the people who go into medicine. Like anything in healthcare, we tend to give assume that an entire industry is moral, and just; when people go in for a variety reasons (as recently as 20 years ago, the vast majority of medical students said it was for money), and it’s worth noting that cuts across a vast majority of demographics and motives. And, for better or worse, that cuts across vast swathes of competence - for far too many folks, it’s a job - a rewarding job, but just a job. My father recently inquired about board exams and recertification as a way of guaranteeing some basic level of competence from everyone. He’s right, but the key word there is “basic.” Again, “basic” is fine for first aid and most major medical issues; it’s unacceptable if you have a disease with a 90% fiver-year mortality rate.
I bring this up because I think I chronicled my first appointment with my insurance-appointed GP five or six weeks ago and seemed perfectly satisfactory to my ongoing addiction to experimental chemotherapy. I’m certain it was within that time frame, because I had schedule a six-week follow-up. Which, sadly lands on my “week off” chemo. So, yesterday, after infusion #2 for this cycle (for those of you wondering what I’m doing to stay busy during infusions these days, well, rewriting Christmas carols for cancer patients)(”On the first day of chemo, the nurses gave to me, zofran in an IV”). I also convinced dear old Dad to take me out to lunch, because, again, when the Marizomib side effects hit, you do not fee like eating. This was in the neighborhood of the latest addition to my collection of medical people, so I thought I’d reschedule then. And was told by the receptionist to wait for everyone behind me to check in lest they be late for appointments. That would be fine, but it seems a fundamental misunderstanding of how queus work. And, any time post five-ish hours on infusion day, even though zofran might keep me from puking, it does give me an odd, oily, queasy sensation. I think I deserve some sort of gold star for not puking on this woman right away (again, if you have unconventional problems, feel free to start with an unconventional approach)(my next writing project will be titled, “Life Lessons from Necromancers”). I eventually - using the traditional method of looking down the reception counter, noticed someone not otherwise occupied, and manage to get an appointment more amenable to my schedule. For a physical.
Again, I’d love to use some four-letter words here, but even Finnish fails to meet the requirement. Now, it should be noted that, even though I’m well-aware that I’m physically Adonis-like; I am in chemo and recovering from radiation treatment, Radiation Oncologist implied a few months ago that, even though my scan was clean and looked good for someone with brain cancer, anyone unfamiliar with my case would probably freak out about them. Same thing with my abnormal, uh, “lab sample” I wrote about recently - the nurses agreed, a single abnormal test is hardly unexpected toward the end of chemo, especially since I’m now on a diet consisting mostly of protein, fiber, cafeine, and dangerous, experimental substances. However, I’d prefer not to have to point all that out to a new medical person who has the power to yank the plug on me (sadly, my original GP will be on vacation that week. (I’ll also be on Temodar, so there’s a solid chance my brains will be thoroughly scrambled and incapable of comprehension).
ANYWAY… WEIGHT: 198 lb CONCENTRATION: Pretty good, APPETITE: Normal (but this is 24 hours post-infusion. ACTIVITY LEVEL: Not great; the fatigue side effect definitely caught up with me and chewed me up last night. SLEEP QUALITY: Okay. although I’ve noticed that I definitely thrash around on chemo days. COORDINATION/DEXTERITY: Lousy. Thank Gods I don’t need the walker, and I don’t even think I need my magic ankle support, but my left leg is definitely unreliable today. MEMORY: Not bad, although I did forget my sheets were in the wash earlier today (although I recall stripping the bed and tossing them into the washer). PHYSICAL: Tired and kind of wobbly, but still a lot better than this time a year ago.. EMOTIONAL: Okay. It might just be that I spent yesterday next to my zofran-and-CDB salt-lick, but I’m starting to think I might make it through all this somewhat intact. Hang on. Am I really starting to believe my own bullshit? SIDE EFFECTS: Tired, somewhat sore (either chemo or increasing the difficulty of that stupid elliptical), and in the wrong time-zone, but, other than that, not much.  CURRENTLY READING (For Donna): Gonzo Girl, and The Explorer’s Guild (A Passage to Tshamballah)

Tips for Reducing Customer Acquisition Costs (CAC)
Tumblr media
Regardless of network, it is apparent that the digital sector has become a competitive one for enterprises.
Every brand on the internet is vying for the same consumers' attention (in some way), making effective marketing to your target customer more challenging.
Furthermore, the average cost of pay-per-click commercials is rising.
It is critical to ensure that your systems and processes for acquiring new clients through these channels are cost-effective.
Aside from launching or sustaining carefully planned paid advertising campaigns,
there are some strategies you can utilize to reduce your client acquisition costs,
or at the very least make that figure sustainable and scalable over time.
So, in this piece, I'll define customer acquisition and customer
acquisition cost (CAC), explain the difference between CAC and CPA and provide 11 strategies and tactics you may use to reduce your customer acquisition cost.
What is customer acquisition?
It implies acquiring paying clients for your company, just as it sounds.
It does not, however, apply to the single action of clicking "buy" or signing a contract.
It covers the entire journey from prospect to paying customer.
For some firms (particularly e-Commerce), that road may be brief, with few stops along the way.
Others with a lengthier sales cycle may have to wait weeks, months, or even years.
Regardless, a customer acquisition strategy attempts to make every step of the client acquisition process as easy as possible
allowing you to achieve the highest potential conversion rates.
Building up and understanding your company's funnel is one of the most difficult tasks any marketer can take on,
especially when you don't have the data to back up your judgments. We'll get to that later, but first, let me explain the distinction between CAC and CPA.
Customer acquisition cost vs cost per acquisition
We must emphasize that customer acquisition cost (CAC) is not the same as cost per acquisition (CPA).
What is customer acquisition cost (CAC)?
Your customer acquisition cost calculated by dividing your total advertising spend by the number of new customers gained as a consequence.
CAC is the most significant parameter for executing direct-response advertising campaigns,
although it often used to measure the success of your marketing at the business level, rather than the campaign level.
What is cost per acquisition (CPA)?
The cost per acquisition, on the other hand, is a campaign-level measure.
CPA is simply the cost of acquiring a lead (anyone other than a paying client), whether through a material download, free trial, demo request, or any other type of contact information input with intent.
CPA is crucial in the overall scheme of things, but the conversion rate across the funnel is more so.
Assume you're generating leads for a sales demo or consultation.
Although this lead type is considered low-funnel, there may be a significant disparity in how many leads convert on this activity and how many of them become paying customers.
Depending on the nature of your organization and sales processes,
you may be able to accept a higher CPA if the conversion rate and return on ad spend are good. When competing for premium ad real estate with other firms, this becomes critical.
As previously noted, if you are running e-commerce advertisements, the difference between CAC and CPA may be negligible because you can see whether your ads are making you money instantly.
The first action a user may take is to visit your online store and make a purchase.
How to lower your customer acquisition costs
In this section, I'll go over strategies and tactics to help you reduce your client acquisition costs, or at the very least,
start thinking about how to enhance the overall efficiency of your marketing funnel.
1. Have tracking in place
I cannot emphasize how vital it is to have precise tracking in place.
You need to know which traffic is coming from which channel and, preferably, which campaign, from ad click to website visit, lead, and customer.
Don't merely direct customers to a landing page without first enabling conversion tracking on each platform.
That is where you will be able to obtain the baseline CPAs and optimize the campaigns themselves.
It is critical to be able to tie performance to specific campaigns,
whether you utilize individual landing pages or forms relevant to the channel you are advertising on or construct UTM parameters.
Also, remember to build up conversion values so that you can immediately link paid advertising expenditure to leads in your pipeline.
2. Set a baseline
Given the significant disparities across firms and sales cycles, determining your CAC may take some time.
If leads enter your pipeline but take months to convert to clients, you may appear to be losing money for some time.
This is why it is critical to establish baseline conversion rates for your promotions, channels, and platforms.
You can begin to reliably anticipate the CAC if you learn the average conversion rates across your funnel.
3. Align your ads accordingly
Yes, leads obtained through a demo request are far more likely to become paying customers than leads obtained through a content download.
An ad providing a free trial for a project management platform,
on the other hand, is unlikely to do well among individuals looking for project management advice or templates.
In this case, it might be more appropriate to market a free guide or template.
Based on who engaged with each preceding ad, you may then build retargeting advertisements for gradually lower-funnel offerings.
4. Have a clear path to conversion
This section could have  titled "optimize your funnel," but it would oversimplify the argument I'm attempting to make.
The minor components of promotions or offers make up the larger framework of the marketing funnel.
In addition to ensuring that your offers correspond to your consumers'
state in the funnel, you should also ensure that your subsequent offers correspond to the path they are most likely to take.
For example, the top of your funnel could include content downloads,
but you could have numerous distinct types of content.
It was critical to strategize that content and align it with the target audience's needs, as well as to provide a direct path to sales from that conversion.
And then, be sure to strategize your subsequent offers.
Leads that download guide A might be interested in a different retargeted ad offer than leads that downloaded guide B, or who used your free tool.
Create progressive, but obvious, conversion routes based on your sales cycle and the offer that generated the lead.
In this manner, you can avoid drop-offs in lead-to-sale conversion rates.
For example, a material download that is only distantly related to your product or service may require numerous more small conversions before it converts to a customer.
You want to plan out each layer of your marketing funnel so that it exactly aligns with sending prospects to sales at the right speed.
5. Use landing pages
There are techniques to boost conversion rates without changing a single landing page, but this should not be your entire plan.
Many people are still not using them, in my opinion.
In other words, they construct ad campaigns that bring people to their website in the hopes that they would convert.
Even if your website is conversion-optimized,
I advise against doing so because there are too many options on your website that can
(and will) distract the user from converting to the action you are targeting with your ad.
Create landing pages that are relevant to the offerings in your ads, with the single CTA on the page being the action you want customers to take.
And this is where you can incorporate critical facts in your landing page copy to address any reservations, communicate your value offer, and increase conversions.
6. Optimize your website and landing page experience
For decades, one of the most prominent topics of conversation has been the online experience.
Books, blogs, movies, and webinars have all emphasized the critical role that your website plays in turning prospects into consumers.
First, your ad and landing page must be completely consistent (learn more in our landing page tips).
The copy and visuals should have the same look and feel and convey the same idea.
There should be no cognitive dissonance between these two elements.
The ad should exactly aligned with the page to which users are directed.
This is one of the simplest methods for increasing conversion rates and lowering customer acquisition costs.
7. Get into the weeds of conversion data
Whether it's through Google Analytics data or the conversion statistics supplied within advertising platforms (YouTube Studio may surprise you),
it's critical to understand as much as possible about the conversions that are taking place, such as:
What time of day is it?
Which weekday is it?
What are the devices?
If you find that the majority of your leads convert between the hours of 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.,
Monday through Friday, schedule your advertisements to run solely during those hours to get the most out of your ad spend and minimize your CAC.
If you notice that desktop users are more expensive to acquire but of higher quality,
you should allow yourself to spend more money on acquiring these people and delete or separate mobile users totally.
Get into the weeds with your conversion statistics so you can spend more only where and when you need to, rather than increasing total costs and wasting money.
8. Check your placement settings
There are various layers to a great paid ad approach that may require several blog posts, but a lot can accomplished simply by paying attention to how your campaigns are set up.
The first detail to double-check is the placements targeting on Facebook or YouTube.
Many businesses, for example, will run direct response campaigns with the “automatic placements” feature activated at the ad set level:
This includes the “Audience Network,” which will serve your Facebook ads across other app assets.
Historically, the Audience Network has resulted in relatively low-quality clicks and few, if any, conversions.
Although Facebook's algorithm designed to produce the maximum results for a given aim, there is frequently a significant amount of money wasted on Audience Network placement.
9. Check your location settings
Location targeting in Google Ads is another example of a campaign setting that might influence CAC.
When you browse through the settings for your search campaign, you will discover a section for locations:
If your company needs to deliver advertising to people in a specific location,
expand the locations tab and pick "people in or often in" your target area, then specify any necessary exclusions.
Often, the simplest things in the layout of a paid advertising campaign can have the greatest impact on the quality of leads you drive through it—and, ultimately, your CAC.
10. Use bidding strategies
Your bid strategy is the final aspect of paid advertising that might affect your customer acquisition cost.
Using bid tactics (at least within Google and Bing) can significantly enhance your base CPA and, as a result, your CAC.
Target CPA bidding has proven to be an efficient approach for maintaining average costs for sponsored search ads with campaigns that have enough conversion data.
Of course, there are many more aspects and levels to the funnel than the prices at the top, but you should take advantage of every opportunity to improve these KPIs.
When deciding how competitive to be, keep the audience (or keyword) and the funnel/promotion in mind.
11. Create great content
You can't get away from it.
Content is always the key to marketing success.
The guides and collateral you create, the copy on their landing pages, and the ad copy that promotes them (and other non-content offers).
Conclusion
As you can see, cutting client acquisition cost (CAC)
requires boosting conversions and lowering the cost of those conversions (CPA) throughout your whole funnel for organizations with a longer sales cycle.

Bluehost Affiliate Program: Earn $65 for Each Signup
Are you interested in earning Bluehost affiliate commissions without having to purchase site hosting or a domain name? You can earn money even if your audience is small. Continue reading if that excites you.
In this article, I’ll explain how you may make referral money using Quora and Medium. To begin, you’ll learn about Bluehost’s affiliate program and hosting tiers. Second, you’ll understand why I chose Bluehost as my referral partner.
By the end of this article, you’ll understand how to use Medium to promote affiliate links and drive traffic from Quora. Doesn’t that sound fantastic? So let’s get to work!
Introduction to the Bluehost Affiliate Program
Bluehost pays you $65 for each sale you refer to as an affiliate. It’s astounding when you realize the client may be paying only $8 per month and receiving the first month free. As a result, a simple $3 close ($3 underlying) pays $65. Huh? How is that possible?
Tumblr media
To be sure, it all comes down to the customer’s lifetime worth. Bluehost recognizes that hosting customers contribute significantly more value than just $65. In general, clients do not commonly switch hosting providers. And a sizable portion of them upgrades their plans.
This is remarkable even as an affiliate. And how about some extravagant plans? They should generate a substantial amount of affiliate commissions, correct? Actually, not at all. Affiliate commissions are the same for all plans.
It may be more beneficial to join an affiliate hosting program if your audience is more likely to purchase a $100+ than a shared hosting plan. Otherwise, Bluehost provides fantastic potential for you to earn a substantial profit on each transaction.
Bluehost Hosting Packages
BlueHost offers six distinct types of hosting, allowing your readers to select a package that meets their specific needs. Consider the following pricing for their most affordable beginning and renewal plans:
Shared hosting is $2.95 per month with a monthly renewal fee of $8.99.
$15.95/month for WooCommerce hosting; $24.95/month for renewals
VPS hosting is $18.99 per month with a monthly renewal fee of $29.99.
Managed WordPress hosting is $9.95 per month with a monthly renewal fee of $29.99.
Dedicated hosting is $79.99 per month with a monthly renewal fee of $119.99.
Bluehost provides a 30-day money-back guarantee and new customer discounts, which presents you with a chance. The discount prices offered by Bluehost might save your audience up to 64% every month!
Why Have I Selected the Bluehost Affiliate Program?
Bluehost is the world’s most popular web hosting provider, with over 2 million websites hosted on its servers. And WordPress promotes it explicitly to its users. As a result, the program must be quite promising.
Tumblr media
This section functions similarly to an unbiased Bluehost affiliate review. Let us begin!
The Program is designed for Beginners.
First, I propose that you try the Bluehost affiliate network, as it is straightforward to join. You do not need to adhere to the same stringent standards as you would with other affiliate programs.
And this makes it more approachable for you as a novice. In addition, everyone is now eligible to become a Bluehost affiliate.
Numerous Hosting Services
The second reason to promote Bluehost to earn commissions is the company’s diverse offering of hosting services at competitive prices. Additionally, the services offer the latest version of cPanel, superior after-sales support, and comprehensive analytics tools. What more do you require in terms of hosting?
There is no financial investment or risk.
You are not required to spend anything to join Bluehost’s affiliate program. The minimal cost required is for hosting, domain registration, and content. And you don’t even need a domain or hosting with my way. And you’ll still be able to earn money by promoting Bluehost.
Significant Affiliate Commissions
I must emphasize that Bluehost pays generous commissions to its affiliates. You can make anywhere between $65 and $130 per sale. And that is colossal! The more sales you generate, the higher your commissions will be. It’s that straightforward!
I’ve addressed the primary reasons for joining Bluehost’s affiliate program, but there are numerous others. Let’s learn how to earn affiliate commissions without having to purchase hosting or a name.
How to Earn Bluehost Affiliate Commissions Without Having to Own a Hosting Account
If you have a popular website, you may wish to promote affiliate links on it. And this has been discussed extensively in the past. Do you require web hosting? Take a look at Medium. Do you want to drive traffic to Medium? Take use of Quora. Allow me to explain.
Create Content That Is Relevant for Medium
The Medium enables you to post material that includes affiliate links. And it is fantastic news. However, I do not recommend going overboard. The algorithm helps spread the word about high-quality material on the internet. That is why you should constantly present your readers with value.
Bluehost has an excellent affiliate scheme, and Medium is an excellent venue for publishing your work. Therefore, begin by writing material about Bluehost. Don’t limit yourself to writing reviews and postings on the ‘best’ hosting services. Rather than that, provide the greatest possible value. For instance, make:
Tutorials on how to get your readers’ websites up and to run with Bluehost.
Comparative articles such as Bluehost versus Hostinger
Bluehost-related how-to articles
I hope you received it. Utilize Keyword Research Tool to discover Bluehost-related keywords and produce premium content around them. Additionally, create attention-grabbing headlines.
Develop High-Quality Content
Can your material achieve a high ranking on Medium if it satisfies the quality standard? Inquire about these points and determine whether your content satisfies Medium’s quality standards. Your Medium material should be intelligent and candid.
Your readers may take offense if you advertise your affiliate links aggressively throughout your content. Therefore, to earn money on Medium, you must carefully compose and post content that contains only a few affiliate links.
Create Awe-Inspiring Headlines
While Medium permits ambiguous and creative titles, the majority of highly ranked content has a fairly basic title, your post should be simple to read and comprehend for your audience. Add numbers to demonstrate sincerity and curiosity.
Once you start creating affiliate content on Medium, the platform will work for you. However, utilizing Quora to assist you in achieving your goals will expedite the process.
Content Repurposing for Quora
Increasing traffic from Quora to your Bluehost-related Medium content will help you increase your affiliate earnings. It is not merely a question-and-answer site but a full-featured intelligent forum. You are not even required to provide material this time.
It’s as simple as repurposing your Medium post for Quora. Receiving referral traffic to your Medium is completely free. Create a ‘Space’ for hosting-related stuff and begin writing. Include no affiliate links on Quora, as the network prohibits it.
How, then, can you earn money using the Bluehost affiliate program? To that end, adapt lengthy pieces into shorter ones. Additionally, you can respond to queries and write brief entries in Space about topics related to your niche. And if you do it well, you’ll get a significant amount of traffic for your affiliate material.
Allow me to provide a few ideas for quickly gaining traction on Quora.
Create a variety of material formats, including movies and photos.
Provide consistent value to your platform’s readers.
Take inspiration from the seemingly endless supply of content ideas (related content)
Edit your qualifications with confidence (Show your expertise or hobbies)
Conduct content research within Quora to avoid duplication.
Respond to questions about your area of expertise (hosting, in this case)
Avoid being aggressive; instead, use natural language.
Utilize Quora advertisements to target your audience effortlessly.
That is everything for the time being. Allow me to outline the entire process for you at this point.

In this page I will show you some of my favorite strategies that put me on the winning side. The side where I have the mathematical advantage. Positive time decay means that every day that passes option premiums decay or erode. In other words if stock xyz is trading at $20 today and the $20 call is trading at $1.
Article Outline

In trading options, the assets are usually traded in stocks and to get started you need to be aware of a few facts. To learn this you need to take a few lessons from trading in stocks first. Try out stock trading for a while and if you constantly earn returns you can then move to trading in options. Make sure you know all the aspects involved in trading of stocks because if you lose money in stock trading, you will lose everything when dealing with options. Look up all the options trading terminology and study them carefully because if you are to be successful you should be fluent in these terminologies. Read as much material as possible on trading options and cover all the techniques and options strategies used by the professionals who are successful. This will give you a general understanding of what you need to do and all the things to consider when trading in options. In this case knowledge is power therefore you should be armed with as much knowledge as possible. Also look for video tutorials from people who actually trade in options and see how it's done. It is important that you fully understand the technical analysis of options trading and options strategies. Learn how to interpret the charts regardless of whether you want trading in index, currency, equities or any other form of option. You should then choose an option product that suits you. In case one is beginner they should try out Binary options, experienced traders usually deal in trading retail option brokerages accounts whereby one can create their strategy of investment. You should also look into opening a brokerage account and the account you open must be strictly an options account. For this, you will require the permission of the company's principal in order to do this. If you have little or no experience the principal might not approve any strategies above the writing covered calls but as you get more knowledge you can ask for permission to take part in more advanced options trading strategies. The max profit on this vertical spread is $2.
how to potentially turn 5 000 into 60 000 in 6 months trading options Kansas You don't want to buy the wrong options because you'll lose all of your money!
If you bought this $60. 00 call you would need xyz to rally passed $63. 00 at expiration to make money. So, the strategy I recommend is to buy ITM (in the money) options with a delta of at least (. 7) or higher and at least 60 days until expiration. Of course this must be accompanied with a sound trading plan to minimize risk by using stop losses and hedging techniques. If you want to make money fast then this type of strategy should definitely part of your portfolio because it allows you to take a little risk and make large gains. In any trade you need to have defined risk. The best way to accomplish this is by having a specific plan for your trades before you're even in them. People who succeed in trading don't allow their emotions to come into play. If you have money in the markets whether you're managing it or letting someone manage ask yourself this very important question. What is my overall risk and when do I plan to take my profits? If you don't know the answer to that question please learn how rich people invest their money!Credit SpreadsIf you want free money making ideas that work you have come to the right place. I will give you my strategy and exactly how execute it for free. I learned this from many of my trading mentors who have become rich from it and many other things. I love free money making ideas that is why I'm writing this particular page. The strategy isn't the important part. How I implement is the part that is most important. I will teach you both. The strategy is an options spread trade called a vertical spread. Not new for anyone who has traded options before but for those of you who haven't I'll cover the strategy first then how I use it. Here is an example of what I would do if I believed a stock was going to go down I would do the following.
what does trading options mean Kansas It is like practicing in the baby pool after learning the swimming strokes on land.
Meaning on the fifteenth day if xyz trades down to $51.
options trading scottrade Kansas Learn position sizing!
The vertical spread I would sell would be beyond my stop loss. The best part about this trade is positive theta. Meaning, all other things being equal, every single day that passes the vertical spread I sold is getting cheaper and cheaper because there is less time for it to end up ITM (in the money). So, all I need is for xyz to not trade below my stop and my spread will expire worthless. That is the best case scenario. The worst case scenario is I get stopped out. Less analyze both scenarios in detail. With xyz trading at $53. 20 my stop would probably be around $51. 00. So if xyz never touches $51. 00 I will win the trade. If your technical skills are descent this will happen a lot of the time for you. If xyz which was trading at $53. 20 when I put the trade on trades down to $51. 00 I am going to get stopped out of the trade.
trading options school in utah Kansas I wanted to find ways to make extra money but I was losing $3.
When most people think of options they assume that there risky.
xlt options trading course Kansas This is why paper trading is such an important step in the overall options learning process.
1. Verticals Calendars Butterflies Iron Condors DiagonalsWhen I was looking for ways to make extra money I began trading. The problem I had as a beginner with my trading was I learned all of these strategies and started trading them but I didn't have a plan for exiting and managing the positions. That part is just as important as the actual strategy. For example, one of the strategies I began trading to make extra money is called a bull put spread. The trade is made on a stock you think is going to go up. I would collect $2. 00 on a $5. 00 wide spread. Then I would simply put it on and let it on and let it go with no exit plan. I wanted to find ways to make extra money but I was losing $3. 00 on my losing trades using this strategy with no plan. Some of these would expire worthless and I would make the $2. 00 but some would go against me and I would take the max loss. Now I learned how to manage those positions and make the $2. 00 on my winners consistently and only lose $1. 00 or less at most! Trades that take on too much risk compared to reward aren't going to work over time. Controlling risk is the most important part of trading. It's essential to make good consistent gains but it's more important to have very small losers compared to your potential gains on your winning trades. The best advice I can give to beginning traders is the following points. 1. Price and plan for entering2. Choosing the correct strategy3. Plan for exiting the trade4. Position SizeAll four of these pieces to the puzzle are very important. The one I will focus on now is choosing the correct strategy. The following are my favorite defined risk option spreads. Verticals Calendars Butterflies Iron Condors DiagonalsWhen I was looking for ways to make extra money I began trading. The problem I had as a beginner with my trading was I learned all of these strategies and started trading them but I didn't have a plan for exiting and managing the positions. If you bought this option you would begin to make money as the stock begins to rise because it has a high delta (rate of change of the option). This option would make money fast because it would move quickly in price with the stock. Let's look at another example to bring home the point of the kind of options you want to buy. Stock xyz is trading at $60. 00 The $60. 00 call is with 45 days until expiration is trading for $3. 00The intrinsic value is $0. 00. It has no real value because it's OTM (out of the money)The extrinsic value is $3. 00. This is the type of option you want to sell because every day that passes that $3.

Simple Health - Small Steps To Long Health
Tumblr media
One of the best ways to increase the chances that your kids will embrace health concepts is to model attitudes and behaviors consistent with a health-enhancing outlook on life. Sermons are always more effective when demonstrated than preached. I've got two sets of suggestions to help you teach your kids about wellness. One is a short list of specific behaviors which, if practiced on your fashion day in and day out, will go a long way to insure that you are a great parental model. Another is a couple health products games to play that could help your children think specifically about wellness, understand it in some depth and strengthen their motivation to follow your guide in living this way. The first part I'll call Modeling Wellness; the next Playing Games. There are some people who don't carry Health care insurance because of the high cost of the premiums. There are others who don't carry it because it's an extra cost to their already tapped outside income. Finding individual medical insurance is not an easy task. In most cases, it cost twice to three times more than insurance. Some individual Health plans cost well over $350 a month and if you are a healthy person, this is nearly a waste of money. So, let us look at the four key elements of wellness. Physical wellness is the most tangible and finite component. You know if you don't feel well. It can be just the common cold or it could be a serious illness. Consider a time when you weren't physically well. It influenced the rest of your life, be it for a short or an extended time period. Work was not as easy to do--if you could work at all. Day to day responsibilities like cooking, cleaning, running errands, and paying the bills felt like a massive undertaking. You probably didn't need to find friends or do something interesting with your family. Any plans that you might have had (and actually been looking forward to) were, probably, from the window. You can see how not feeling well physically runs over into every other area of life. Conversely, I have seen the reverse many occasions; a girl who is much better looking in person than in photos. Such is the destiny of the person who wishes to be a model of any sort, such as a fitness model. If you find you are not very photogenic, keep working with different photographers until you find one that really catches you nicely and cover that photographer handsomely! He offered to pay their flights, room, and food plus a thousand dollars each for the days work. Both women were told to be at the booth 9am sharp. The night before in the hotel, I saw the two women getting in a taxi at 11pm or so dressed to kill, clearly on their way out to party. The next day they showed up at the booth an hour and a half late and hung over! What was the result of this? (1) it embarrassed me to no end as I had recommended them to the company owner (2) they'd never get work from that company again (3) they would never get any work from me again and (4) they would not get a reference from either of us to different jobs. Many folks are turning to fitness games for a host of reasons. Some people simply need the ease of performing exercise in their own house. Others can't get to the gym in time for the classes they want. Of course it may simply be that people want to have fun when they exercise. fitness games work at the pace you want them to and you can stop at any stage. Many people also find that these games are more enjoyable than going to a class at the fitness center. One of the parameters of success in life is using a piece of real estate or only a house. To get a piece of property or having a home means you have purchase it. You will need to take out a mortgage loan. A mortgage loan will be use to purchase the house for you and in return you will pay the creditor. For you to have maintained that lifestyle, you'll be obliged to pay on time otherwise your house will be foreclosed. This is the last thing you would like to happen. Also it isn't only the teachers that you pay for in a gym. You also have a number of other facilities that include sauna Jacuzzi massage sessions and other items that would make you feel like you've come for a holiday as opposed to a fitness camp. With all these comforts and losing weight and becoming fit at exactly the same time, you would arrive in a jackpot of a vacation which would make certain you get healthy and in shape again and continue what you find out from the boot camp into your everyday routine. There are many reasons as to why boot camps work. The majority of the customers that go to a fitness camp come back home satisfied. What is the reason for this high relate of success?

GDPR One Month On – Are You Compliant Yet?
On the off chance that you haven't knew about GDPR yet, I'm both envious and confounded with regards to why you haven't.
All things considered, in the previous month you may have seen your inbox being shelled by a great many  Digital Marketing Agencies in Sheffield messages from organizations you joined to 20 years prior, telling you that their strategies are being refreshed. What's more, presently essentially every site you go on now has a treat bar pummeled on it some place, inquiring as to whether you agree to treats.
Fun stuff, isn't that so? No doubt, I suspected as much as well. All things considered, this is all down to the frantic surge of organizations attempting to become GDPR consistent before the cutoff time hit. All in all, where are we one month on?
Bit confuffled all in all GDPR schtick? Discover progressively about it here.
A month ago's GDPR-pocalypse was something no one was truly anticipating. Looking into every one of your information, ensuring your site is agreeable, everything. So how are we one month on?
All things considered, first of all, very little has truly occurred. GDPR is essentially going to be focused at bigger establishments and organizations. Europe based organizations like Volkswagen, Tescos, Vodafone and numerous others were at a lot higher danger of being gotten out in view of the inconceivable measure of information they store, so it bodes well to target them first.
The littler organizations like your neighborhood corner shop or Bowler Hat are at a much lower danger of being gotten out by the ICO (yeehaw) absolutely on the grounds that we don't hold as much information on customers.
Nonetheless, on the off chance that you are an entrepreneur, and you read that thoroughly considering you're of the blend, at that point you're shockingly mixed up. The principal month of GDPR has been moderately calm up until now, with your inbox being barraged with protection updates and sites shoehorning a treat strategy bar on the site.
Presently, this may appear to be somewhat extraordinary, yet it's unquestionably essential. On the off chance that by chance you do come into the terminating scope of GDPR, at that point don't worry about it to an extreme.
The ICO (Information Commissioner's Office) will initially give you a review on all the exquisite easily overlooked details that aren't right with your site. You will at that point get a solitary month to correct the issues. In the event that these aren't done, a fine gave at 4% of your worldwide pay will be given, which, as enticing as it sounds, isn't really that incredible.
So What Can I Do?
"How would I fix my calamity of a site?" you inquire. Indeed, there are a couple of various choices. You can put two or three (thousand) hours of exploration in, and you can attempt to circumvent fixing the site yourself.
Be that as it may, this is a hazardous move as you may commit incalculable hours to research and result in still not having an agreeable site. You could toss hours into exploring things like treat arrangements when in established truth, you just need to do two or three things.
Your subsequent choice is to get another person to do it for you (hack, hack, Bowler Hat, hack). Re-appropriating an organization to do it for you is normally going to be more costly than doing it without anyone's help.
Be that as it may, is it actually worth the hazard? There are a great many offices offering you the "premium GDPR review bundle", which is presumably going to worry you since you don't know which one to pick.
All things considered, investigate what they offer. What amount do they charge? What does their review really spread? On the off chance that they're going to charge you a little fortune for a 10-minute review, at that point it's not actually justified, despite all the trouble. However, for the ones that have a reasonable cost and all around organized review (COUGH, COUGH) at that point it's very worth contributing.
Consider the possibility that I Don't Want A GDPR Audit Thingy.
All things considered, that is your memorial service. How about we be genuine for a second, you should as of now be agreeable in many regions. Straightforward things like having your information encoded or essentially having an assent button on your contact structures can have a gigantic effect in both client fulfillment and site security.
In 2012, preceding GDPR was even a thing, Greater Manchester Police was fined in light of the fact that one of their official's USB sticks was taken containing subtleties of around "1,075 individuals", which brought about a clever £120,000 fine since it wasn't encoded. Exercise learned I assume.
This sort of stuff ought to be natural for both inward and outside frameworks. We have an entirely decent blog about creation your website secure in case you're searching for some place to begin.
Let me know, is there a small latch symbol in the URL box of your site? No? Kid, do you have an occupation to do. As much as you might suspect it's probably not going to occur, your site can, truth be told, be hacked.
As indicated by Google, one of the fundamental prospects of being hacked isn't empowering HTTPS on your site. Hazardous business, isn't that so? All things considered, fortunate for you (not so much), there are heaps of different ways that your site can be hacked, which means all your customer information is additionally in danger.

On the off chance that you bought a fresh out of the plastic new Ferrari on your platinum card today and discovered your check card subtleties and every single other detail Ferrari had on you had been undermined by a 12-year-old programmer living in no place, you most likely wouldn't be excessively satisfied. That is the reason it's fundamental that you ensure every one of your information is secure, regardless of what site or organization it is.
Presently, we're just the primary month into the entire GDPR thing, nonetheless, this is still crucially essential to set everything straight ASAP as your site is as yet powerless against being hacked.
What Do I Do Now?
On the off chance that you lack significance yet, I'll offer it to you basically. Get. An. Review. Here at Bowler Hat, we truly went through days exploring into GDPR before it became effective, so we're pretty up to speed with the entire GDPR schtick. Here's a 2-minute agenda for you to see whether your site is consistent. In the event that it isn't, if you don't mind connect. It's to your benefit.
Is your site HTTPS?
Is there an assent button on any contact structures or pamphlet structures telling the customer about what information is being accumulated they join?
Do you have a treat assent bar?
Any of these missing? In the event that even one of them is, you're sensibly going to require a review doing on your site. Don't hesitate to connect to get your GDPR site review. We have really great involvement in it.
What's The Conclusion?
All things considered, don't hope to quit getting the protection messages you so urgently need to get, and those interesting little treat bars hindering each site you visit won't be disappearing at any  Digital Marketing Agencies Sheffield point in the near future. Be that as it may, according to you and your site, it's really certain that you NEED to get agreeable. What's more, in any event now you realize what the dangers are of not turning out to be protest.

Sometimes it’s hard to step outside your comfort zone as a dog parent when you’re so used to seeing the same brands on the shelves at your local store.

You may be looking into changing your dog’s kibble for a variety of reasons, but you’re not sure where to start.
There are so many brands out there to compare, which is why you should always research products before you buy anything.
Check out this comparison of Blue Buffalo and 4health dog food.
You may discover something about 4health that changes your mind or you could end up relying on a big name brand like Blue Buffalo for your dog’s nutritional needs.

It’s a Tractor Supply kibble brand made with premium ingredients[1].
It’s meant for puppies and adult dogs because it’s made with an important focus on minerals, omega fatty acids, vitamins, protein, and antioxidants.
Tractor Supply created their kibble brand as an extension of their mission to provide products that help you take care of your home, pets, and land[2].

Blue Buffalo Company Overview
Blue Buffalo became one of the biggest dog food players in the game after their company began in 2003[3].
When their family dog, Blue, got sick, they decided to fight the cancer on a nutritional level.
Since then, they’ve developed the Blue Life Protection Formula which is one of the best selling kibble brands in America.
They offer many blends for all age ranges and health needs, selling products in many stores across the nation.

Blue Buffalo is a standard in many dog households, so if you’re curious about it, this is a good place to start learning about your dog’s potential future food.
Blue Buffalo is a common competitor in our dog food brand comparisons.

Recalls
Any dog food business that’s been around for a while will have a history of recalls. It’s important to look into past recalls to see if a brand is trustworthy.
4health has had one recall back in 2012[4], which was related to a manufacturing issue on behalf of its parent company, Diamond Pet Foods.
Some kibble batches may have been contaminated with salmonella, which is why the voluntary recall was posted.
Blue Buffalo has been around longer, which give it more of an extensive recall history.
In 2010, they were recalled for high levels of vitamin D in certain formulas[5].
In 2015 there was a recall for salmonella[6] and their 2016 recall pertained to possible mold in some kibble bags[7].
The most recent Blue Buffalo recall was in 2017[8].
Some canned dog food had unusually high levels of a hormone derived from the beef thyroid that causes health issues if dogs eat a lot of it.
What’s Important When Looking for a Good Dog Food?
Before you buy your dog a new bag of food, you want to make sure that it has everything they need.
Not all kibble is made with the same quality, so always do your research before you buy anything.
Here are a few key factors to look out for before your next purchase:
Ingredients
What kind of ingredients do you want your dog to eat?
Is it important for you that they have only organic ingredients?
Do they need proteins source from specific animals, or nutritional additives like omega-3 fatty acids?
This is important to keep in mind, so check ingredient lists on every bag you consider.
Price
Dog owners know that you need to buy a new bag of dog food at least once a month, if not more than that.
It may seem fine to spend a little more on a bag of kibble now, but will you be able to keep that up in the long run?
Consider your budget and the price per bag to make your final decision.
Availability
Some dog brands are only sold in stores, while others are only available online.
Most have a mix of the two, but you’ll have to decide what you prefer.
Your schedule may prevent you from heading to the pet store every couple weeks or you could have limited delivery options where you live.
Taste
Your dog always enjoys what they eat, but it’s hard to know what they like when you buy new food.
A great way to figure this out is to look at what your dog has eaten in the past.
Are there specific meats or flavors that they jumped to eat?
Did they avoid eating when you switch them to chicken instead of beef?
If you’re unsure because your dog is new to your family, try getting the smallest bag of kibble possible when you make your final decision on a brand.
You can always go back for a bigger bag later.
Brand Reliability
If you find a dog food brand you like that has kibble your dog loves, you’ll want to stick with it for a long time.
That means you need to trust a brand to consistently make your dog food that’s healthy for them.
Brand reliability means looking into their company’s history to see if they can produce a high-quality product every time you need to make a purchase.

Comparison of 4health vs Blue Buffalo
So, how do these two brands stack up against each other?
Here are the final results:
Ingredients
   Winner: 4health
Blue Buffalo always has whole meat listed as the main ingredient on their kibble backs.
That means your dog is getting more real food per bite.
It’s also important to note that their Life Protection blends have added antioxidants to bolster your pet’s immune system and digestive tract.
4health avoids adding soy, wheat, and corn to their kibble, which is important.
Many brands use those ingredients as fillers, which could be harmful in the long run.
Their food also contains probiotics to promote digestive health, antioxidants, and omega fatty acids.
It’s great that these brands are so competitive with their ingredients, but I’ll have to hand it to 4health on this one.
Probiotics balance out the digestive tract[9] in ways that antioxidants alone cannot.
That could be the difference between regularity and health complications for some dogs with sensitive stomachs.
Price/Value
   Winner: 4health
As well as being a popular brand, Blue Buffalo is known for being on the pricier end of kibble.
It’s super premium, so it’ll cost around $1.60 per pound. 4health is much more budget friendly, averaging $1 per pound.
Tractor Supply Company can lower their prices because they don’t need to pay for extra shipping fees to get the kibble from a separate production company to their stores.
That gives them an edge in this round, coming out the clear winner as far as price and value goes.
Availability
   Winner: 4health
If you want to get 4health, you’ll need a Tractor Supply store in your town or access to their website.
When you buy through them, you can get an autoship discount, but shipping still costs money.
Blue Buffalo is available at most pet stores and online sites where shipping is free.
That makes it more available and easier for pet parents to access.

Shop Blue Buffalo
Taste
   Winner: Tie
Both brands have a variety of formulas and flavors for your dog to choose, so you’ll have to let them test out the taste at home.
Customers report dogs loving 4health and Blue Buffalo equally, thanks to their high-quality ingredients.
Brand Reliability
   Winner: 4health
No company is perfect, but Blue Buffalo has had many recalls over the last decade.
4health has only had one, which makes me think they’ve got their methods of production down to a science.
I’d trust them over Blue Buffalo, but I still recommend keeping an eye on the news either way.

Conclusion
Both of these dog food companies put up a good fight.
4health may have seemed like a non-competitor at first because I hadn’t heard of it, but they care just as much about their product as Blue Buffalo (and maybe a bit more).
4health would be my kibble of choice, but it always depends on the dog at the other end of the bowl.
Consider your dog’s health needs, age and activity levels before buying anything you plan to commit to long-term.

It’s been a while since I’ve done a post purely powered by anxiety, so I apologize for being a bit stressful. But sometimes it helps to get it all out on the page and then share it, so I’m writing it out here.
I’ve spent the last several months really worried about my finances. Long-term substitute teaching didn’t exactly have me rolling in the cash, but this is the first time in almost five years that I’ve started the school year without a long-term placement (intentionally—I wasn’t looking this fall, partially because I’m considering a career change and partially for other reasons) and my finances have not recovered from the usual income drought over the summer. I mean that literally; they have not recovered at all. Usually there’s a rough period for me in September and early October as I wait for paychecks to accumulate, but now that I’m back to short-term substitute teaching, I’m finding it’s not as lucrative as it once was.
To break it down for you, I substitute teach in two different counties. Their pay schedules alternate (one pays approximately on the 15th and 30th of every month regardless of where that falls in the week; the other pays on Fridays that usually fall on the opposite weeks as county #1’s paychecks), so I am lucky in that I get a deposit pretty much every week instead of every fortnight. But I’ve worked a lot of partial-day jobs instead of full-day ones this year, and since I split my time between two counties, often I’ll work half the day in one and the rest in the other. So while I’m nominally getting paid for two weeks of work, not all of the work was done in the county that’s paying me that week. Which, ultimately, results in lower paychecks.
Put into perspective numbers-wise: each week I get, from one of these two counties, a paycheck that is about $500 if I’m lucky. I won’t put exact numbers, of course, but my highest paycheck so far this school year was somewhere around $675. The lowest was around $150 because I had worked a lot in the other county that pay period. The problem with this is that the money I earn never has a chance to accumulate, because the instant it’s deposited into my account, I have to use it to pay something that’s coming up due. My rent, for instance, is roughly one whole good-week’s paycheck (good week= $500). My car insurance is half a paycheck. My student loan bills, combined at the normal rate, are about 2/3 a paycheck. My health insurance is half to 60% of a paycheck (and premiums are likely to go up this year). What little remains is barely enough to cover gas and a few groceries. I would estimate that I need to make $1000 more per month than I’m making now just to be not at risk of going broke every month.
(A couple days ago, I went back in my online bank details to see when the last time was that I had a bank balance that actually covered everything I needed it to and that I was comfortable with. It was July 19. That was over four months ago.)
So I’m at a difficult point, because there’s no wiggle room for anything else right now. I can afford a couple things, like Christmas gifts, if they’re small and I manage my money well—but big things are an impossibility. If I get sick and need something that insurance doesn’t cover, I’m screwed. My car is old and making a weird sound and I need to take it in, but depending on what (if anything) is wrong, the servicing could cost $150, or it could cost $1500. And if it’s the latter, I can’t afford it. That’s an entire month’s worth of money or more, which is already designated since I’m operating on a paycheck-to-paycheck basis. Even the $150 is almost a quarter of a good paycheck. I can’t just pay it and recoup the loss with the next deposit, because there’s no extra money in my paychecks to catch it back up.
This is, obviously, not exactly helping my mental health. I probably wake up at least once a week in the middle of the night, and when I try to get back to sleep, I end up thinking about this and being awake for two hours turning it over in my head. I’ve thought and thought about what I can do about it, and there’s no option that’s particularly good. I adamantly refuse to ask my family for help: my sister is currently in a single-income household while her husband is in nursing school and she herself is considering a career change, so even if they offered, I would feel too terrible about taking anything from them. And my mom has severe issues with anxiety—this is the woman who gets so worked up by what she sees on the news that she heard there had been one single mugging in Dupont Circle and asked my dad how they were going to get to church from now on since it would obviously be too dangerous to walk there from the Metro anymore. The woman who, when I blew out a tire five years ago on the highway, was convinced I should stop driving on highways entirely. I would probably send her into an early grave if I talked to her about my financial issues, and I know she herself struggled with finances when I was a kid, so I don’t want to make her go through that again.
I’ve thought about getting a second job. But most part-time jobs either won’t hire me because I’m under-qualified (or, in the case of many retail/entry-level jobs, vastly over-qualified), or don’t pay enough to make the extra hours of work worth it. For example, I’ve long thought about getting a second job as a shelving assistant at the library. But they pay $11.50/hour and are hiring for 10-19 hours a week. That would give me an extra paycheck every 2 weeks, at about the size of one of my weekly paychecks now. That’s not really enough financial benefit to balance out the amount of additional time and work I’d be expending. I’d essentially be sacrificing a large chunk of my free time and getting pennies in return.
I’ve also considered the fact that in light of this, I might need to take another long-term subbing job soon if one becomes available. The problem with that is that historically, my track record with long-term teaching has been spotty. With my depression being what it is, I honestly find working full 7.5-8 hours days really difficult (even with subbing—that’s actually why, even though the partial-day jobs have been financially bad for me, they’ve been mentally really good). I have a hard time with the consistency that long-term teaching placements require, and they exhaust me and take a toll on my mental health, which creates a feedback loop of difficulty. So it’s hard to apply for those jobs knowing that they’ll tank my mental stability, which will make it hard to do what I need to do to keep that job or, in the case of long-term subbing jobs that are by nature temporary, get a better one. I’ve also applied for other types of jobs—media assistant, school secretary—hoping that I’ll get one of those and it will work out better. But none of those jobs have called me back so far.
The long and short of it is that there’s no solution right now that will be as quick or as effective as I need it to be. Longer-term work, or even a career change, will take time to achieve and even more time for the increase in pay to kick in. Plus, it could involve going back to school if I want to get qualified for a position that would really improve things for me, and obviously with things as they are, I can’t afford to go back to school. And it’s hard, honestly, to think of the long-range options when I need a short-range solution. I have student loan debt and car repair expenses and monthly payments to make now. I can worry about the five-year plan when I actually have money left after I pay my bills each month. Until then, I’m taking it day by day and hoping for a miracle.
(FYI, I did put a paypal link in the sidebar of this blog when I was struggling financially a few years ago, and I kind of never took it down even when I was doing OK. It’s still there, if the spirit moves you.)
