#if I had the chance to redo OFND yet again I probably would nix Minktail and give his character fully to Sandstorm

Eehhh… sort of?

If you go back and read through canon material, you’ll find that Longtail has (arguably) just as much, if not more, screen time and legitimate character growth + plot points than Sandstorm did. She serves as an antagonistic force at first, then a love interest; I never felt that there was any overlap between those two points of her character. She served a purpose, sure, but it felt… hollow.

Meanwhile, you have Longtail, who serves roughly as an even smaller narrative point to Firestar but who is so much of a bigger presence. He just has a lot more going for him. If the Erins weren’t homophobic and if they were, y’know, good writers, I have zero doubt in my mind that LongFire would have been a thing - and it would have been absolutely grand.

So, with that in mind, I’ve split Longtail’s character roughly in two. Some of it goes to Minktail, and some of it goes to Sandstorm. You can see a bit of that in aDoD’s outline and how it was Sandstorm who initially attacked Rust/Firefall; she just had more of a reason to. Minktail was a massive support from the sidelines, though, and once the story gets written properly he’ll definitely have more screen time.
