probably my most evil trait is being seethingly jealous of people who naturally pick up lots of languages quickly and can interact with other countries and cultures on a intimate level because of it

Original Character Insights
Questions
1.) Who did you chose for this tag challenge, and why? If you have a portrait of them include it so we can admire them! This is Zuri.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
She’s one of the four protagonists of my upcoming novel A Very Great Mischief, and she gets to go first because she’s the one I have the most artwork done for. Seriously. Look at her; she eats up the camera. Zuri gets my drawing muse going so easily.
2.) Introduce your chosen character as if you're a cool voice from a movie trailer.
Ladies and gentleman, the girl who will turn you inside-out and back again... and who is confident you will love it. Zuri!
3.) Now have your character introduce themselves, with full awareness that hundreds or even thousands of people may hear their description.
Zuri turned to the lens. Her expression a mix of disdain and poised curiosity. Her eyes moved beyond it, looking directly into those of the interviewer. They were startlingly blue, piercing, unblinking. She sees me, they thought, unsure exactly what the thought meant but certain it was accurate. The moment passed. Zuri blinked, smiled. A gentle expression that turned up the corners of her mouth. She turned her gaze away into the camera and the interviewer took a breath that they found they needed. Desperately. “Zuri, just Zuri. It’s lovely to meet you all.” Her voice was as soft as dripping honey but a chill traveled with it. The interviewer's spine rattled. There was a promise behind that smile and that voice. Whether meant to be alluring or threatening... they didn’t know.
4.) Does your character know multiple languages? If not: would they learn if given the chance?
Zuri knows a hodge podge of important words from each dialect in Drake’s Rest. And, like most humans who had access to education, she speaks Common as well as her native language.
5.) Karaoke night with friends! Does your character sing, observe, or flee to the hills? Something else, perhaps?
Zuri would be on stage rocking that mic. And dancing.
6.) Pick one Deadly Sin and one Virtue for them.
Zuri’s deadly sin would be greed. Not just for material things. She grew up never having to share her toys, so to speak, and it’s a blind spot that has caused her trouble in the past. Fortunately she’s self aware enough to attempt to compensate for it. When she cares to. If she had a virtue it would be diligence. All of her skills that allow her to live independent and free are skills that she has gone out, researched, and learned with only herself motivating her. She’s a business owner, a skilled mechanic, and a damn good thief, locksmith, and infiltrator. None of that was handed to her.
7.) If your character could erase one event from their past what would it be? Why?
Her birth. Zuri is, unfortunately, not a very happy person. Her bright spot in her life is her family, but even that is tainted. She lives in terror of losing one or all of them. While she doesn’t want to die she does wish frequently that she had never been born.
8.) Has your character ever helped a stranger?
Yes, although her help is not always the best thing for them. Zuri has a soft spot for children. She sees them as the only innocents in the world - people who haven’t fucked things up yet. So if she sees a child in trouble she will help. Given who and what she is, however, that might not be the best thing for them long term.
9.) How would your character react if they were yanked into our world? For characters with powers consider them nullified. No laser eyes or water bending, etc.
Zuri would be floored by the sheer volume of people. Drake’s Rest is crowded but when you get out of the city the population thins drastically. Then it disappears to almost nothing. She’d get the hang of things pretty quickly, however. Pickpocket skills are useful no matter where you go.
10.) Your character is given a slice of the most perfect chocolate cake with the most decadent chocolate icing. Describe their reaction.
Zuri took time to observe the plate of cake. Lifting it, turning it, blinking with no hint on her face as to the thoughts in her head. A thoughtful sound hummed up from her throat. She picked up her fork and took a bite, and froze. “This was made by whom?” Breathless her voice, unfocused her gaze, wide her eyes. A slight tremor shook the hand holding the plate. She steadied it in an instant. Not for anything, even her own amazement, would she risk that cake falling to the floor. (SHE WANTS THAT RECIPE.)
11.) Where does your character feel fully at peace? Or, if not at peace, as close to it as possible. Would they ever bring anyone else there with them?
Zuri feels the most at peace when she feel safe. That in itself is a rare thing. If she knows a location is secure, and she has either Cyn or Rana with her, she will relax. Having her girlfriends around to provide backup and comfort makes all the difference. Alone she is never relaxed, despite what her outward appearance might suggest. Her most perfect place would be their apartment, after a meal that she made and they all enjoyed, all of them laying together on the couch.
12.) If your character could have any pet in their world what would it be?
Zuri has a pet! Of a sort. Soot is a female Filcher: a species that resembles microraptors. They are approximately twice the size of a cup of coffee. Consider them a mixture of seagull and pigeon when it comes to their place in the city. Males have beautiful multicolored plumage, mischievous natures, and are intelligent and eager to engage with anything that catches their attention. FEMALES are the spawn of Satan, dark black with red eyes. They stir up trouble wherever and however they can, are notoriously contrary, can be violent, and will steal anything and everything shiny. Soot is a female. Zuri adores her. It’s not precisely clear how Soot feels but she does come to visit Zuri on occasion. And usually leaves her possessions alone. Usually. If she’s bribed.
13.) If your character could give themselves a superpower what would they pick?
Invisibility at will.
14.) Haircut time. Change is mandatory! What hairstyle and color would they chose?
Zuri‘s hair is pretty short, so there isn’t much to work with. If she had to change the basic style she would go for a shorter, boyish cut. With artfully arranged mess meant to look natural. As to the color, she is constantly changing it already. She’d probably go for the polar opposite of whatever shade she was currently sporting.
15.) Do they want to build a snowman?
No. Cold is evil. Snow is WORSE. Cold, and wet, and gets everywhere. She will be inside by the fire, thank you very much.

50 More interesting questions
Rules: fill this out and tag at least one person you’d like to know more about! Or just fill it out! Or don’t! Answer only some of them! Make up your own questions! “What kind of requirement is that”, you ask? A reasonable one! Who am I to tell you what to do? Anything goes!
(Original questions authored by @cavern-of-bells , thank you!)
Hypothetically tagged by @redpantychan XD
1. What kind of food can’t you stand?: I'm not incredibly picky, buuuut bitter food. Like bitter melon.
2. If you could choose one minor inconvenience to never have to deal with again, what would you pick?: Hiccups.
3. Have you got any useless talents?: I know Roberto Button's birthday (October 23), zodiac (cusp of Libra and Scorpio), and height (5'10") off the top of my head.
4. If you could be really really good at one thing, what would it be?: Putting myself out there more.
5. Name a few people you think are extremely good-looking: UHHHH real people? Chris Evans maybe??? Uhhh idk I don’t follow celebs at all SO Okita Souji is SO PRETTY (his eyesss) and also Hachiro Iba is so pretty. Also Olivia from FE:A, I love her hair?
6. What was your favorite way to pass the time as a kid?: Writing stories, playing games, reading books. ie. all the stuff I still pass the time with now that I'm 25, lol!
7. What is something you’re proud of?: I've gotten back into reading for fun, and I can see an improvement in my writing as a result.
8. What’s one character flaw in people that you just can’t tolerate?: Intentional passive aggressiveness.
9. Do you consider yourself to be more of a leader or a follower?: I'm okay being both, but it really depends on the situation.
10. What kind of student are/were you?: I was a good student in high school, but I never learned how to actually study because I generally found the classes/homework pretty easy. Then I got to college. *explosion noises*
11. Butterfly effect question! Has there ever been a seemingly minor decision you’ve made (at the time) that ended up having a profound influence on your life?: I started making otome parodies and posting them. XD That got me interested in learning about audio equipment/programs/techniques, which led me to apply to an audio internship at a publishing company, which led to a regular salaried position/promotions at the same company.
12. Name your most irrational fear/aversion: I have a list. ;3; Buuuut if I had to name one, uhhh I really hate strong storms. A little lightning and thunder is cool and I enjoy wind and rain, but I tend to freak out if storm watches go out, because my mind instantly goes "NEXT STEP IS A TORNADO WARNING AND THEN EVERYONE'S DOOOOMED." I've gotten better at distracting myself when that happens, but yeah.
13. Are there any fictional characters you find especially relatable?: The characters in Hakuoki. Not because I've ever drunk a vampiric potion or because I've been in a police force or in any conflict beyond a thumb wrestling match. But a major theme in the game is very much about personal beliefs vs. what others tell you, and struggling to adjust to sudden changes in life. I just find that despite the hot otome guys and fantasy elements, it's a very human story in that respect.
14. If you drink, what kind of drunk are you? Alternatively, what sort of person are you at parties?: I can't really drink a lot because of the meds I take (trust me, the “don’t take with alcohol” warnings are on the bottle for a reason), but also because of my small frame I get tipsy SUPER FAST. I get kinda relaxed and giggly when that happens. I'm an introvert, but at parties/events where I'm comfortable and excited to go, I'm usually okay talking to others, dancing, etc.
15. Do you fall in love easily? Or does it usually take a long time for you to trust someone?: With fictional people, I see one CG or screencap and I'm just "I'M GONNA MARRY THEM AND WE'LL HAVE BEAUTIFUL BABIES TOGETHER." But in real life, it takes me a while to open up to people, and I've never had a serious crush or fallen in love yet.
16. Would you rather have one close friend or 100 casual friends?: One close friend. I'd rather have someone I can absolutely rely on even if we have rough patches together and have them know they can expect the same from me, rather than friends I can have fun with but they go AWOL when personal issues come up. I'm not the best at communicating, so it's a work in progress.
17. Do you consider yourself to be more of a slob or a neat-freak?: When it comes to work, I am SUPER METICULOUS. I organize my files and my inbox and I write protocols for everything. But uh, if you plan to come over to hang out, let me know in advance so I can pretend my room is neat all the time, lolol.
18. Describe a place (imaginary or real) that you would find incredibly cozy: I imagine the common rooms at Hogwarts to be safe and cozy and warm for their respective houses. So I guess the Ravenclaw common room, since that's my house. XD
19. Do you have kids? If not, do you want them someday?: No kids yet, lmao. I would like kids of my own someday, but not anytime soon.
20. What was your favorite book as a child? A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L'engle. It was the book that made me go "Hey I want to write, too!"
21. Name one thing you just don’t get what all the hype is about: fidget spinners, same as Chia. XD
22. Name one thing that you think is tragically underrated: The Story of Saiunkoku. It’s a great anime, watch iiiiit!
23. If you had to be glued to a person for a month, real or fictional (who you have never met), who would you choose?: Someone who can keep their head and be optimistic, but at the same time know when I need Introvert Time(TM).
24. What’s something you’d like the chance to do someday?: Travel more.
25. Do you typically speak your mind when you have a controversial opinion? Or do generally prefer to not rock the boat?: If I'm with people I trust, maybe. Otherwise, nope.
26. What’s the dumbest fad you’ve been caught up in?: Beanie Babies. My mom once stood in a line to get one for my birthday even though looking back she definitely thought it was the stupidest craze ever, ilu Mom. XD
27. What’s something you thought was cool as a kid/adolescent, but now cringe at yourself for?: I pretended to have a crush on Lance Bass in grade school because I thought I needed a "celebrity crush" to "fit in."
28. What’s a trait you consider to be very admirable?: The ability to admit when you have done something wrong, acknowledging someone else's feelings/POV, and THEN taking actual pains to not repeat it. Basically when you actively consider taking the other person in a relationship (platonic, familial, romantic, etc.) seriously more important than "being right."
29. Is there a particular kind of item people always tend to give you as gifts? (For instance, people always get you things with ducks on them because you like ducks, etc.): My parents give me socks a lot. When I was a kid I was like "why" but now I'm all "YEAAHHHHH SOCKSSSS YOU GUYS ARE THE BEST." Also I get books and notebooks/pens. My college friends used to get me stuff with owl designs.
30. Do you speak multiple languages? Which ones?: English. Trying to learn Japanese on Duolingo. The language of love. Altarian.
31. Would you rather live in the big city or the countryside?: Countryside, no doubt.
32. Has there ever been something you were certain you’d hate, but ended up loving?: I don't recall. I mean, I'm sure there's been lots of things, but nothing I really remember. XD;; Now I try to be more open minded when I try new things.
33. Do you mind being the center of attention, or do you prefer the spotlight to be on someone else?: I can be kinda self-conscious, but at the same time STROKE MY EGO AND TELL ME I'M FABULOUS.
34. Favorite holiday?: Christmas, because my family takes time to spend it together and I have lots of good, cozy memories associated with it.
35. Are you a more go-with-the-flow type of person, or do you need to have things planned meticulously?: My heart says go with the flow, my head says "PLAN OUT EVERYTHING OR ELSE YOU WILL DIE" (thanks anxiety).
36. Is there something you loved so much you wish you could forget it and experience it all over again? (A tv show, book, series–anything.): Yeah, lots of books/games. XD;; But I like to replay/reread favorite series of mine a LOT, so each time I feel like I experience it a new way.
37. What hobbies do you have?: Otome, staring at Roberto, writing fanfic/original stories, staring at Saint-Germain, reading, staring at Okita, playing piano, staring at Xander, singing.
38. If you could have a superpower, but it was only mildly useful, what ability would you want to have?: Oooh, interesting question! The ability to help soothe people or help them feel a little more optimistic. It wouldn't change their life or help their situations directly, but if they're in a bad place then even just brief reprieve from feeling shitty might help their mindset.
39. Something people are always surprised to learn about you: People sometimes have the impression that I'm all sweetness and butterflies at first but then we break out Cards Against Humanity and I rack up a ton of black cards and they go "oh wow it's always the quiet ones."
40. Something that took you way too long to figure out: That nobody "figures everything out" when they "grow up," and it’s okay to go at your own pace.
41. Worst injury you’ve had?: Sprained ankle.
42. Any morbid fascinations?: *looks at angst idea backlist* idk bro, skeletons maybe so spoopy amirite.
43. Describe your sense of humor: Puns and terrible memes.
44. If you had to be born in another era/place, which would you choose?: If we're talking about the past, then I wouldn't choose, namely because I have some health-related issues that would be hell in past eras. If we're talking about place, I've already been born in a different country than the one I was adopted into/currently live in, so I wouldn't choose a different one either because that doesn't really matter to me.
45. Something you are irredeemably bad at: Being patient.
46. Something that sucked but you’re glad you went through: I can’t think of anything negative that I’m glad I went through; but I can be glad I got through it and can look at things more objectively so I can work on moving on.
47. Would you rather have a really godawful ugly tattoo in a place that is only slightly inconvenient to conceal with clothing (upper arm, thigh, etc.), or the coolest, most beautiful tattoo ever in the middle of your face? (Neither tattoo can be removed or concealed with makeup, and the ugly tattoo will deeply offend anyone who sees it.): A cool, beautiful tattoo on my face. If I actually got a tattoo it wouldn't be huge and super-colorful anyway, so it would be really small, probably a little star.
48. Are you more of an optimist or a pessimist?: Pessimist, but I make an effort to be optimistic when I can.
49. What would be the most flattering compliment someone could give you?: Saying they like something I've been actively working on improving, for example my writing or my singing. Those honestly make me SO HAPPY.
50. Something you feel people often misunderstand about you: Just how deeply emotional I can get about games/books. *CLENCHES FIST*

I was tagged by @tiny-teapot-stuck-in-a-burrow AND @aconitum-napellus !! Thank you both!!!!!! I added both your new question. Sorry if I write too much.....
rules: answer all questions, add one question of your own and tag as many people as there are questions.
1. coke or pepsi: Coke, though I really don’t drink colas much. When I do drink sodas I prefer a root beer or ginger ale/beer.
2. disney or dreamworks: Disney I guess, considering their entire body of work and owning Pixar.
3. coffee or tea: I drink more coffee but prefer tea. Go figure! LOL
4. books or movies: No, don’t make me choose!!!! Technically I prefer books, but I get so little time to read anymore. Movies are much quicker to take in. Actually, both are art, just different kinds, and it depends what medium best suits the individual story.
5. windows or mac: windows, sort of.
6. dc or marvel: In comics-DC, not that I read many superhero ones anymore. And if you count my entire life, when I adored the mutants, Marvel. In movies- Marvel
7. x-box or playstation: neither, I don’t have the money for gaming
8. dragon age or mass effect: Dunno. Back when I used to visit my brother I got to play both a bit, but mostly I was stuck watching him play the, NOTHING is more boring than watching someone else play a game! LOL I can’t remember having a preference.
9. night owl or early riser: Night owl!! Early mornings make me feel ill. Seriously!
10. cards or chess: I LOVED playing chess but I had no one to play with (parents had no time and my brother wouldn’t play things he lost! LOL) So, cards. At least you can build a house of cards or play solitaire with them!
11. chocolate or vanilla: for candy- chocolate, for milk shakes- vanilla, for ice cream- anything else
12. vans or converse: Neither. Since my feet and ankles are so messed up, I long ago gave up worrying about shoe fashion. If it is big enough for my giant feet and ankle brace, and it supports my bad ankles, I get it no matter how hideous. That’s harder than you think....
13. Lavellan, Trevelyan, Cadash, or Adaar: I think this is a gaming thing I’m not qualified to answer.
14. fluff or angst: Both! Gotta keep a balanced fictional diet. Really, I just  want to put characters through the wringer AND have them happy, so mixing the two in one story is a thing I do. Not that any of you have read any of my stories! LOL
15. beach or forest: Both!!!!!! I grew up spending my weekends at the beach and a lot of the rest of the time in woods, so it’s too hard to choose.
16. dogs or cats: BOTH! I wouldn’t want to offend half the non human part of my family by picking favorites!
17. clear skies or rain: Rain, with a special fondness for hurricanes (before the boat respinsiblities got so overwhelming). Besides, I burn too easily in the sun.
18. cooking or eating out: Take out from some really good place, so I don’t have to eat in public or do as many dishes. I REALLY hate washing dishes! Though cooking is nice when I have a nice recipe to work with...
19. spicy food or mild food: Mildly spicy. The sort of level where those that like spicy mock you for being a wimp and those that like mild (looking at you Mom) find your cooking too strong.
20. halloween/samhain or solstice/yule/christmas: ACK! BOTH! Those are my favorite times of year, or at least they were until last year got so melencholy at Christmas.
21. would you rather forever be a little too cold or a little too hot: Cold. I have lived both (thank you lack of heating and unreliable air conditioner). Cold you can just wear more, bundle up, and even get down right cozy for sleeping that way. But hot is miserable and keeps you from sleeping. Plus, I’m unfortunately someone that sweats easily, and society really, really hates that.
22. if you could have a superpower, what would it be: Immortality! Life is far, far too short to see and do even a fraction of the things I want. Heck, I won’t even live ling enough to read all the books I own! Plus you get the facinating chance to watch the world change, to get to see things playout, and gain the perspective to know that impermanence  of it all...well, except for you.
23. animation or live action: Animation. It allows so much freedom of apperance, so many individual styles, embracing the surreal, strange and dreamlike on a regular basis.
24. paragon or renegade: depends on what this is refering to. I have seen it used in a game somewhere, so in that case I don’t have an opinion. As a general term, renegade.
25. baths or showers: Shower, though not based on preference so much as neccesity. When I was tiny they cut a notch out of the bathtub here so my grandmother could step into it, but the patch Pop put in after she died has broken loose. So, more than a couple inches of water you flood the floor!
26. team cap or team iron man: Cap
27. fantasy or sci-fi: BOTH! Sometimes the line between the two is very thin anyway.
28. do you have three or four favourite quotes, if so what are they: Not really. I find them interesting but never memorize them. I horrified my teachers when I refused the quote book for my graduation speech. I like what others say, but I prefer to speak for myself. Now if you wanted me to recite Jabberwocky or favorite dialog I have memorized.....
29. youtube or netflix: youtube I have a poor internet connection and no money, so netflix is out.
30. harry potter or percy jackson: Harry Potter, though since I haven’t read any Percy Jackson or seen the movie, maybe I should abstain.
31. when you feel accomplished: When I get to the end of the day and I have something completed, like a bit of sculpting, but this is usually immediately followed by absolute dissatisfaction  with the results and questioning whether I should have done something else instead!
32. star wars or star trek: Aww, now you are talking about my childhood. I suppose it depends on what section of these universes. Both have areas I hate (see everthing about the SW prequels or that smug lot in the Next Gen and my desire to take a lead pipe to Kirk) and aspects I have just skipped. The orginal Star Wars trilogy has a special place in my heart, but don’t tell my beloved Spock!
33. paperback books or hardback books: Hardback, which might be one of the reasons my floor first collapsed under one of my bookcases! LOL
34. fantastic beasts or cursed child: No opinion. I haven’t seen the first or read the second.
35. evans, pratt, hemsworth, or pine: Um, Chris Evans as in the guy playing Captain America. Maybe? I mean, it depends on what part they are playing since I don’t know anything about the actors as people.
36. tangled, frozen, or moana: I don’t know. I liked Tangled, I was generally underwhelmed by Frozen but loved the redefinition of true love to not be romantic, but I haven’t had a chance to see Moana yet.
37. opera or ballet:  depends on my mood, but generally ballet. Maybe. At least then the language barrier doesn’t get in the way of comprehension.
38. perfume or incense: Perfume. My fragile lungs hate smoke, even nice smelling stuff.
39. Voldemort or Sauron: Sauron He feels more like a force of nature, rather than someone that keeps having his evil plans messed with by a bunch of a kids.
New question: Would you rather time travel to the past or future?
I cannot possibly tag 39 people!!!
Most of you will not want to do this, so don’t. It REALLY is ok!
I’ll tag some of you, but please do NOT feel you have to do it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@omegadalek  @theramblingrogue @whitexblackrose @orcface @takethekeyandlockherup @kimikokat @awesome-beatles-fan @antonnightwatch @arsenalofmerit @aigooylgaifyllina @jamisings @kleurenblind @pupsik11 @runningbarefootthroughtheforest  @camerawakened @woodsong @nakila-rimmer-bear @aeqvat-omnes-cinis @imagetornwing @invisibleme59 @javiroa226 @dendroica @lzbarnabas @eleonoraalva
Anyone that wants to do it just pretend I tagged you!
(I am going to lie awake worrying I offended some of you by tagging. )
