4. Where do you find inspiration for new ideas?

lol honestly probably mostly from reading other stuff (or reading/watching the canon) and thinking about what I'd like to see instead, how I can take a general concept and make it more tailored to me. I've noticed that when I read less fic I also have less motivation to write.

17. What do you do when writing becomes difficult? (maybe a lack of inspiration or writers block)

I stop writing lol 😔 Occasionally I'll try to brute force something, usually if I'm stalled out on a fic, but it's usually doomed to failure. To try to reinspire myself I'll often re-read a wip and edit what I have, and hope more ideas come to me. Sometimes that works.

20. Have you noticed any patterns in your fics? Words/expressions that appear a lot, themes, common settings, etc?

Lots of stuff that I generally find appealing: characters who know they're not straight, confident bottoms, very flawed relationships, fucking first and talking later/never, miserable people. I have to work to avoid conversations that feel like two people floating in a void together lol.

24. Worst writing advice anyone ever gave you?

lol I honestly don't recall ever being given writing advice, except on like very specific things by betas, and those are all good suggestions. I'm sure I got some in school, but idr specifics. In terms of like general writing advice I've seen going around social media, I've seen the terrible advice to minimize the use of 'said' with a list of possible dialogue tags to choose from, when a much better and less silly way to avoid sounding repetitive is to vary your sentence construction.

OH and also there was a post that went around a while ago about how paragraphs in fic shouldn't be longer than a sentence or two or else it feels too slow or dense or smthn???? Not even exaggerating. Bizarro world take, but it had a lot of notes. Personally I dislike when a fic has a paragraph break every sentence or two lol, it reads like someone pausing for dramatic emphasis constantly.

Overall I’ve been RPing from around 13 - 15 years at this point. This year (or next idr) is going to be my 10-year anniversary on Tumblr in specific though.

I’ll do p much anything sub-genre wise. Though romantic, sexual and heavily dark themes (torture, death etc) need plotting.

— plots vs memes

Improv is always my go-to on Tumblr but I’m no stranger to plotting either. I don’t do it much nowadays unless it’s something that significantly impacts a character. But that’s because most times I try to plot it’s me presenting an idea and my partners just going along with it or accepting it as fact, rather than trying to bounce off the idea and improve it. My plotting style is very much that; taking ideas and building off of them. If I’m the only one building on them, chances are I’ll lose interest quickly and just stick to improv and memes. Since that partner seems more content to just go along with whatever comes along. That being said- When I do reblog memes it’s usually cause I desperately want people to send stuff in (ESPECIALLY when I’m begging in the tags), so don’t be afraid to reach out. Every ask I get makes my life a little easier to cope with.

— long or short replies

It depends on the context and how much I have to work with. It’s not about post length, but the potential in the reply and the context for it.  You can have something wordy and filled with exposition on your character’s thoughts and feelings, but if they aren’t physically interacting with the other muses they are writing with then there’s not a lot of room for my muses to do anything in return. My muses can be pretty intuitive sometimes with people they connect with, but they aren’t mind readers. If you give them little to think about or work with physically, typically my replies will be shorter.

Entirely depends on the day. I struggle with a lot of chronic illnesses (to the point where going outside is a legitimate danger for me) and am starting my own mental health journey. Not to mention my folks like to spring stuff on the family last minute a lot of the time, or my father in particular will tear down my mood. Usually if I’m on, I’m on; usually either doing opens or memes while chipping away at drafts in the background.

stop what ur fuckin doing and go listen to coloring book. it’s such a good album and i just!!!!!!!!!!!! there are actually two songs called blessings, but this is the one that’s the last song on that album. and it’s just... very comforting and it makes my whole body fill with positivity, and it just... it makes me want to be kind to myself.

this is the weirdest description of a song, but i feel like... i’m being comforted by parents who love me. the soft music and the gospel choir vibes remind me of my mom humming songs to me when i was younger. i feel like my hair is being gently stroked as i fall asleep. i feel like i’m being gently kissed on the temple. meanwhile CHANCE. i feel like he’s giving me a pep talk. i feel like i’m getting comforting words of wisdom from my dad. IT JUST FEELS SO NICE like if a song could hug you and tell you you’re safe and encourage you to keep going.

ps. chance’s singing voice makes me feel like i’m drifting through clouds.

firstable, this mv made me gayer than i’ve ever gayed before. secondly, the part where she’s singing “c’mon let’s sleep in my bed (my bed my beeeeed), can i just be in my head with youuu” and she’s harmonizing on the “you” I DK I JUST REALLY LOVE THIS PART and when it comes on in the car i’m always singing the background vocals. speaking of background vocals: when you hear her just saying the “my head my head my head my head” softly in the bg it’s like... MAN idk but i feel like this whole song perfectly encapsulates being alone with your thoughts wrt unrequited love. it’s like one giant echo of all the possibilities of being together that could happen, but don’t. which, to me, is what it feels like to be in your own head. but at least this song is upbeat and catchy

i feel like i should preface all songs with this, but i open at a coffee shop and the first 30 mins to an hour of me being at work can sometimes feel very... 3am feelies. and sometimes on the car ride there or when i’m setting up the pastry case and trying to Wake Up & Be A Person, i will hear a song playing in cafe and it gets me semi-emotional. it’s like my body still thinks this is the middle of the night, even tho it’s actually my morning.

BUT ANYWAYS, I DIGRESS. the first thing i could even hear when this song played was the chorus. the opening verse was too soft to hear across cafe, but the chorus picked up and i just...even without knowing the words it sounded gentle the way soft acoustic songs do, but the vocals have that... desperate pleading sound?? and i mean that as a compliment. idk how to describe it, but when i walked over to the lil speaker and heard the chorus for real on the second run through, i literally felt my heart clench. this song makes me hurt the way sheryl crow’s “favorite mistake” does, but like.............. in a better way.

i love this song when i first heard it, but i don’t think i actually looked up the translated lyrics until like... months later. i just remember really liking all the dips in the song. it reminds me of story telling. which is hard to explain but-- you know what, i just realized why. okay BEAR WITH ME. so the music reminds me of a horse trot, which reminds me of travelling, right? which........... don’t judge me but THAT reminds me of the singing travelers from that a:tla episode with the badgermoles and star-crossed lovers that met in the tunnel. so anyways there’s ur six degrees of separation from STORYTELLING lmao.

listen to this song and tell me you’re not doing all the “aahhhhhhh ahhhh ohhh ohhhh-- OOooOOooOOoo [DRAMATIC PAUSE].” anyways, lyric meaning aside, i’ve never felt more like a lone lesbian on a horse in the desert than i do while listneing to this.

this is a really good car song! i mean, it’s good for any occasion, but specifically i feel like the song is in its element when it’s blasting from my car on a sunny day while i’m speeding out of the parking lot at work. i actually haven’t listened to a lot of mura masa songs, but the ones i have always remind me of summer. is it bc of the steel pan drumming??????? maybe. probably.

the lyrics are also fun to sing along to. WHICH I FEEL IS A SUMMER SONG REQUIREMENT. quesiton 1: can the song lyrics be sung to loudly and dramatically? if yes, continue to question 2. if not, then ur song ain’t a summer jam. it’s got VOICE DISTORTION (but you actin young WHEN U HELLA GROWN). it’s got the “visit italia, be my senorita” line which honestly i’m stealing for the next girl who dates me. ○    name: penname lottie, but my name's marcelle ○    pronouns: she/her or they/them are cool ○    preference of communication: pms and sometimes discord !  depends on how involved talking gets; tumblr pms don't function the greatest ○     name of muse(s): Alex !  and then several others over on @natterghast ○    experience/how long (months/years?): uhhhh, for rp, my whole life ?  i grew up with the concept. i didn't start written rp until my preteens though — and didn't rp on tumblr until i was about 17. (i am 28) ○    platforms you’ve used: tumblr, discord, msn, some forums (briefly), and mmos ○    best experience: i have a lot of good experiences !  uh, idr what i talked about when i filled this out last. but this time i think i'll talk about when me, my cousin and a friend of ours were playing W.oW classic for a short stint. we spent a good portion of our time rping !  we were a funky lil trio. (forsaken, troll and orc respectively.) my forsaken rogue, Liselottie Lowe (LEE-suh-laht luh-veh) was the deadpan snarker of the group. she struggled with BDD heavily due to being in a body that wasn't her own, and she died a very long time ago; she was alive during the fall of Lordaeron. her companions were a flirtatious and adventurous troll ranger, and a soft spoken but dependable orc shaman. she grew very protective of them !  one of my best memories of them is from when we accompanied our friend on his shaman quest. our characters did a lot of talking. ○    rp pet peeves / dealbreakers: there's always a few and i don't know if i want to list all of them. with Alex ?  anyone with game familiarity that puts their own notions of the character onto Alex, which it will never meet. it's awkward and makes plotting / conversation stilted. a similar dealbreaker is when someone wants their character to fight Alex right out of the gate. i enjoy the challenge of writing action scenes, but i don't know how to tell someone that Alex will just kill their oc. furthermore, conflict of that nature isn't a big focus of mine. i would much rather write Alex fighting alongside someone. ○    fluff, angst, or smut: fluff and angst are my preference !  but i've yet to write smut and with Alex i don't plan to. Alex would only ever have intercourse with someone under very special circumstances. ○    plots or memes: little mix of both !  i have a preference for plotting, but it's not a hard and fast rule; and i've had good experiences simply working off memes before. either way my favorite thing is just having fun discussing our characters. (with the intention to plot something or not.) i regret that i get cold feet sometimes and don't always talk when i want to. ○    long or short replies: i lean towards a happy medium. i like to write concisely but with enough to say or do to immerse a reader. if our characters are talking in a coffee shop, i might have my character accidentally knock over their coffee, because i find descriptive environments very helpful for setting a scene. still, whenever i dither too much i find myself unsatisfied and am likely to sit and restructure the whole paragraph to trim it down. the technical aspects of writing please me a good bit so i end up focusing on them. ○    best time to write: sometimes i'll be thinking about a thread and get struck by a particular sentence that i want to write and i'll write right then, but most times i do my writing in the morning after waking up. i socialize with my friends in the evening, so if i haven't written anything by the afternoon i'm not likely to write at all unless i specifically set aside time to do so. ○    are you like your muse(s): i'm not sure if Alex and i share any similarities. if we do, it's nothing i'm conscious of !  if anyone thinks we do lemme know, i'm curious
