Hi, I don’t want to unfollow you over a misunderstanding, but that one post you reblogged seemed like you were pro-shipping? idk, I do agree that it’s not cool to say that anyone should just stay in the kitchen but at the same time shipping underage characters and abusive relationships isn’t... good?

Hey thanks for reaching out- I really appreciate the opportunity to clear misunderstandings. This might get long, because with an anon ask I feel like I've only got one chance. I also want to do my best to be nuanced, so I'm sorry, please bear with me. "Pro shipper" is a new term for me actually, and it feels weighted so I'm not confident I'll use it correctly. I'll just use my words as best as I can. My beliefs are that ships do not directly reflect a person's moral values. Everyone has the self-governance to like or dislike a ship for their own reasons, and the responsibility to evaluate their own consumption. 

I do not condone underage relationships and abusive relationships in real life. I feel very strongly about equality and kindness in real relationships both romantic or platonic. I just believe that real life issues can be compartmentalized from fictional media. 

These might be poor examples, but off the top of my head: playing violent video games is not associated with making people want to commit acts of violence in real life. And certain music (WAP) is not leading to the deterioration of society. 

Regarding the post about the DMs with the young person on twitter: there's also internet history lessons on why I don't believe in actively policing what people create or consume, no matter how much I personally dislike it. (I'm not sure if you're too young to know about the livejournal days of fanfiction, pre-dating AO3.) Without getting too far into detail; it is dangerous and very very difficult to try to meaningfully censor creators/consumers based solely on their ships.  But leaving those ships and shippers in their corner does not mean I am encouraging them. I think it's more productive to support real life preventative causes and donate to children's charities or domestic abuse services. All that said, you don't have to agree with me and you are free to unfollow me if that's what you want. I would be delighted if you stayed, or messaged me off-anon so we can have a back and forth, but ultimately I want your time on tumblr to be one you enjoy, with or without my blog.
