Marco Bott x Female Reader: Eternal Love
To Anon: Sorry I didn’t incorporate smut into this scenario. I just didn’t feel right writing something like that for an afterlife scene. My religion makes me feel like it would be inappropriate based off my idea of the afterlife. Also, I think I went way overboard with this because I deadass almost cried while writing it. Idk sorry. Hope you still like it!

They say your life flashes before your eyes just before you are about to die.
“Captain! Help me!”
They say death is nothing, but to live defeated and inglorious is to die daily.
“Please Captain! I don't want to die! Oh God, no!”
Well, they lied.
“Captain!”
You were crouched low to the ground, your knees pressed deep against the cold, muddy puddles surrounding you, staining your white uniform pants. Your jacket was ripped and tattered from what seemed like hours of fighting, though it had only been about ten or twenty minutes. Your body was cold and shivering, a common state of being brought upon by H2O bullets descending from the dark skies above.
You watched in horror as each one of your comrades were devoured messily by your enemy. Titans, so many of them at that, had surrounded you and your squad after you all got separated from the rest of the Survey Corps. It wasn't your fault, however. No, of course not. You were a great leader, strong, wise. You made sure your squad was protected, and fully aware of their surroundings with the help of your intensified senses, one of the key factors that promoted you to the status of captain in the first place.
Unfortunately, you had no way of predicting the weather for that day, which in turn made it difficult for your senses to detect incoming titans when the clouds began to grow angrier. Alas, they became fed up somehow, and decided to finally release their cold tears to the earth, birthing their beloved sister, fog.
You advised your squad to stay close as you continued to focus on the mission at hand, feeling for any unusual vibrations in the ground, listening for any loud thuds in the far off distance, searching for any large figures moving towards you. You hated being limited based on the weather, but that didn’t stop you from moving forward. That is, until you heard the faint screams of your comrade being snatched off of their horse by a lurking titan.
It startled you, only because you were unable to sense the enemy’s presence. But before you could register what was happening, you found yourself in the deep depths of titan territory.
“Captain!” one of your comrades called as a titan slowly brought their squirming body to its mouth. “Captain look out! It’s going to-”
You heard his words become replaced with gurgling agony as the titan let its jaws snap against his torso. You watched the remainder of his upper body react involuntarily to the impact. You felt your heart sank even further as warm tears strolled down your cheeks, stinging the cuts and scrapes against your once perfect skin.
For someone who was very in tune with their body, both mentally and physically, you couldn’t seem to move it anymore. You tried to look away from the horrible scene, but you just couldn’t. You were too frozen in defeat, fear, and disappointment at the fact that your attempts to save your teammates had failed. Your body was worn out, you were out of gas, and you were down to your last set of blades left on your handles.
The earth below you vibrated, causing you to shift your eyes to the view in front of you. A tall, skinny figure was approaching you, slowly, but surely, from the thick cloud resting on the ground. You were fully aware of what was about to happen, and you knew your chances of survival at this point were slim to none, but maybe, just maybe, if you could find away to break out of this frozen trance, you could run away. The fog would protect you, cover your tracks and allow you time to distance yourself from the enemy and hide, but the problem was, your body wouldn’t move.
“Damn it,” you said through gritted teeth. You blinked away the tears now flowing rapidly from your eyes, trying not to let your vision get any more blurred. “Get up. Why won’t you get up?” you asked yourself repeatedly. The footsteps were nearing, and you felt the vibrations growing stronger. You could see the fog unveiling your maker as it spotted you with its large brown eyes. Its brows were furrowed whereas its mouth was positioned in a crooked smile, one full of lethal terror.
You stared at it, feeling your body break down at its inability to move due to the overflowing fear dwelling inside of you. Soon enough you began sobbing, letting your head drop low as the tears took on a new form of dispatchment and dripped from your eyeballs.
“Marco,” you whispered to yourself. “I.. I’m so sorry.”
You didn’t even notice your body being gripped by the titan’s hand. Your arms were tucked inside of its grasp, making it impossible for you to fight back.
“I’m so sorry Marco,” you sobbed. “I’m sorry I wasn’t strong enough!”
The titan lifted you to its mouth, greed plastered across its face as it took one last glimpse of its prey.
“I’m so sorry I couldn’t keep living for you! I’m so sorry Marco!”
You began to cry out hysterically as reality set in. Ever since Marco died all those years ago, you made a promise to keep living for him, to keep moving forward despite the pain of his departure from your world, to keep fighting until you could no longer fight anymore.
“Marco! Please!” you cried as you felt the the titan’s hot breath shower over you.
“Marco, I love--”
Darkness.
You eyes flickered open, but you couldn’t see anything. Only light filled your gaze as your pupils adjusted to the brightness. Flower attached to thin tree branches fluttered above you in the slight breeze, releasing stray petals into the soft breeze. Behind it, clear blue skies stretched far beyond your line of vision. You subconsciously lifted yourself up with your arms, trying to process your new surroundings.
“Finally, you’re awake,” a voice called from behind you. It made your body freeze, a feeling that just a few moments ago, seemed so identical, yet you couldn’t quite remember why.
“I’ve missed you,” the voice said again, this time making your heart flip because of its familiarness. You turned around to meet a brunette haired male with the most beautiful brown eyes. He was sitting adjacent from you with his legs crissed-crossed and his hands resting peacefully in his lap. You locked eyes with him, prompting him to flash you the most amazing smile.
“M-Marco..?” you asked, unsure if whether or not this was a dream. You felt your body began to tremble as tears welled up in your eyelids, threatening to spill over, but not until you were positive it was him.
“Hello, (Name). It’s so nice to see you again.” His smile widened, and at that moment, you knew you weren’t dreaming, and the tears began to overflow.
“M-Marco,” you choked as you turned to crawl towards him. “Is this.. Is it really you?”
Marco opened his arms to you, encouraging you to take him by the hand and find out for yourself. And so you did, and the warm contact of his soft palms made your body weaken. You felt the waterworks increase as you crawled closer to him, wrapping your arms around his neck and hugging him tightly. Marco’s arms encompassed you by the waist, squeezing you slightly.
“I-I’ve missed you so much,” you cried.
“I know,” he whispered calmly. You could practically feel the emotion in his voice as he buried his head into the crook of your neck.
“Does this mean..” You pulled away from him, but just enough to where you could look him the eyes. “Does this mean.. I’m dead?”
Marco nodded, his smile fading a tad to present to you a more serious tone.
“You have no idea how long I’ve waited for this,” he told you.
You stared at him, trying to make sense of his words. Marco caught on to your expression and immediately took back what he said.
“I m-mean, well, it’s not like I wanted you to die I just..” Marco rubbed the back of his neck, trying to find a better way rephrase what he said previously.
You smiled at him, knowing exactly what he meant.
It’s okay Marco,” you chuckled with a sniffle. “I know what you meant.”
Marco blushed, slightly embarrassed by his choice of words after having waited so long to see you again.
“Come on,” he said, deciding to change the subject. “There’s something I want to show you.”
Marco stood up from his spot in the grass and extended his arm out to help you to your feet, which you gladly took. He led you down the hill where you awakened on, and to a small hut resting alongside a lake. It glistened in the sun’s rays, while the soft winds created tiny waves atop its surface. You gawked at the beauty of it all as Marco walked you to the bank.
“Be careful,” he warned. “It may be cold.”
You looked down into the water. You could see both your reflection and the base from its clarity. You pulled at your white gown, careful not to let it get wet, as you dipped one set of toes into it’s coolness. Marco followed closely behind you, making sure you didn’t trip over any rocks.
“It’s.. so beautiful,” you whispered to yourself.
Marco said nothing. All he could do was stare at you as he took in his personal version of beauty, with your smooth skin glowing perfectly in the sunlight, your hair sweeping around your face as the winds seethed through your locks, and your astonished expression was more than enough to leave Marco speechless.
You looked up to catch him staring at you, to which he tried to play off by looking away and into the direction you were once looking.
“Y-yeah, it sure is,” he agreed.
You narrowed your eyes at him. Marco was still the same Marco you knew before, that was certain. But seeing him now again, after all of these years, reminded you of why you fell in love with him in the beginning. His handsome features, his bashful and humble personality, these were the characteristics that made you fall head over heels for Marco, and the same feelings you felt before you died, were once again reborn in this very moment.
“Marco,” you whispered, capturing his undivided attention.
“Yes, (Name)?”
You turned to him and placed your hand on his cheek. You stared into his eyes for a few moments before whispering the long awaited words you so desperately wanted to tell him again after so long.
“I love you,” you said, not breaking eye contact.
Marco’s eyes widened, but filled up quickly with the same amount of passion and lust. He placed his hand over your hand, pulling you closer by the waist with his free arm. You felt his lips connect with yours, a gesture you longed for for years, now. You kissed him back, feeling the tears returning again. The both of you were on the brink of making out before Marco parted ways with you to say something back.
“I’ll always love you,” he whispered. “This time, for all eternity.”
