Late to the game as I’ve kinda been kinda non-here for a minute but I scrolled through the Dot and Bubble tag, and thought I wanted to write this post into existence.

There's this part in Doctor Who Unleashed where RTD says this:

“What we can’t tell is how many people will have worked that out before the ending. Because they’ve seen white person after white person after white person, and television these days is very diverse. I wonder, will you be ten minutes into it, will you be fifteen, will you be twenty, before you start to think, everyone in this community is white. And if you don’t think that — why didn’t you? So, that’s gonna be interesting. I hope it’s one of those pieces of television you see, and always remember.”

And I'm like. Yeah. But the reason this works even as well as it does is largely thanks to the work of the previous showrunner with the previous creative team, which was notably the first era to have any writers of color (amongst other firsts in terms of inclusivity in directors, composer, actors). While Chibnall fumbled whenever he tried to write about race himself, he did have the self-awareness to have Black and South Asian writers writing the episodes where race is the focus (and a female writer for the episode where sexism is a focus; my point is, he seemed to know his shortcomings).

I wonder what the current creative team looks like? (not really, but I wasn't 100% sure for all of them)

To quote RTD:

This is pretty non-self-aware, right? It's pretty “It is said, and I understand this, there was a history of racism with the original Toymaker, the Celestial Toymaker, who had ‘celestial,’ and I did not know this, but ‘celestial’ can mean of Chinese origin, but in a derogatory way,” right? (from The Giggle Unleashed) It's pretty “and I had problems with that, and a lot of us on the production team had problems with that: associating disability with evil,” right? (from Destination Skaro Unleashed)

—none of which are issues that should be overlooked, but think how much exponentially better they might’ve been addressed if he’d consulted with Chinese writers and wheelchair-using writers before going straight to giving the Toymaker weird fake accents and making Davros walk?

How many Black or non-white people do we think saw the Dot and Bubble script before it landed in Ncuti’s hands?

And this just keeps happening.

And like, from some of the shocked responses I've seen from white viewers to the ending of Dot and Bubble, maybe the episode's unsubtlety was needed? From the way RTD talks about it in Unleashed, the episode was written with a white audience in mind, Baby's First Microaggressions (where of course the microaggressions come from people who are pretty self-admittedly white supremacists). Ricky September, a more seemingly normal depiction of someone in the racist bubble of Finetime, seemed like an interesting element, up until the way he died.

The ending worked for me, because I do think the Doctor's reaction is true to how the Doctor would react. I just keep thinking of how much better the core themes could've been handled by someone with actual lived experience on the subject matter.

THE SNAGS:

FIRST! My initial thought was to very aptly start at The Beginning. However, as you might have seen, this did not work out for me (old phone too old, I was unable to redownload FEH onto a different device and replay the intro scene you can't access later on, even through event recaps). I think my next option would have to be outsourcing this somehow, which. Any which way I'd go about that would NOT be convenient and therefore not a good starting point LMFAO

NEXT COURSE OF ACTION: I could feasibly start with Book 1 and go from there. I could also start with castle dialogue too, actually.

SNAG: Okay well that gets messy doesn't it? Base Alfonse, simple enough. Am I including all his alts in this? Surely, I'd have to. Then what? Level up dialogue? 40 convos? Maybe you Could feasibly have a method for this, actually....

ANOTHER FAILURE: Because I started FEH a couple years in, there are Tempest Trials and Forging Bonds I simply missed. If you haven't played them yourself at any point, you can't access them through event recap. I think one of them was this one:

GOING BACK. So say I start from Book 1. Okay. Easy enough.

SIKE! SNAG: I am a huge fucking baby who cannot bring himself to progress past the point I have in Book 6 (Chapter 6) because I refuse to let go of Bruno. He made ONE appearance and I got so scared for him I couldn't bear to go on. I could just FEEL it coming. And when it finally happened, when they FINALLY, after All These Fucking Years, finally Did it. The character who was surrounded by death flags from the very start. After one MILLION years of dragging it out and having him just kinda wander aimlessly for a bit. When they finally killed him. I don't know when it happens and I don't wanna find out. It was the cruelest most senseless death buildup I've ever fucking witnessed. For. So. Many. Years. Living in fear for Bruno. Waiting for the inevitable. And it just Wouldn't Come. Until Book FUCKING 6.

Listen. Listen to me. I am already insane about grief and loss. I cannot fucking bear it. Sometimes I wonder if I can if I knew the exact chapter he dies but mostly, I can't do it. I refuse to let go of him. He's still here. He's wearing a Santa suit in my barracks. Sometimes he's even wearing a bunny suit. Still no fucking base form but He's FINE. Moving ON.

QUESTION: Do I include Lif?

That would quite literally double the workload. But also the idea of including Lif dialogue on the blog itself but like in a different text color. It would be SO funny but GOD. NO. QUESTION: Promotional material?????? I'm just remembering sometimes there's like. Vids and shit. Though most times like the chibi ones don't have dialogue. There WAS that Brave Alfonse Thing I don't even know what it was but I've seen screenshots of it. Very unprofessional of me I know, to not cover all my bases, but like. I don't even have an excuse I was just mad at the existence of Gustav. And I don't often keep track of material outside of the game itself, actually. Aside from Meet the Heroes (which would technically fall under Sharena dialogue) and A Day In the Life of Heroes.

ANSWER: ??????????? That would be. So Much. I feel like. Maybe I should just stick to what's in-game. MAYBE making an exception for Day In the Life, but. No, I'd... surely have to stick with what's in-game...? It would get So Complicated.

THOUGHT: The context of Alfonse existing in an ongoing game. There's no fixed amount of Alfonse dialogue, and there won't be until end of service. Which. Feels a certain type of way, for me... like I HAVE to preserve what's here. Even if I am just doing something silly. But also Ongoing.... the Task ever-growing....... I don't know. It does feel uniquely daunting. But the Bit.... THE BIT....... is SO TANTALIZING.

Okay to summarize:

REALLY STUPID IDEA. Would be convoluted, but maybe manageable in some areas if I'm being honest. I'd just have to develop a Method for it. HOWEVER. With some things, I've lost before I've even begun. I'm also thinking back to like, instances where a new mode is introduced -- I'm pretty sure there was in-game dialogue of the characters discussing Heroes Journey, for example. I don't know if you can access that again...? So that could be lost for me, too.

IT'S LIKE........ a little discouraging when I think about details like that.

But IF. I were to just think about how funny it would be...... the FEH dialogue boxes/pacing would be SO funny for it........ as just a random one to three line tumblr post passing by....... I don't know what it is but the concept is just SO funny to me. Also I just replayed Book 3's Truth of a Name and became so utterly smitten by Alfonse again I need to eat every single word he says. This guy is fucking AWESOME. He's sooooooooo fucking cool.......

man my (in-game) wardrobe is so full but i hate that all we can do is click on "Discard" if we don't want a piece of clothing anymore

i already headcanon this but i wish it was a real option in-game to have a clothing box at the orphanage. you can put clothes you don't want to wear anymore in there and also sometimes there's clothing from other orphans. if you click on it, a menu like the wardrobe pops up only it's full of random clothing everytime, plus whatever you put there yourself unless another oprhan already snatched it up. it just makes so much sense, yeah?

alternatively, sell clothes at a flea market thing (or even a stall at connudatus st?), where the more worn out a piece of clothing is the less money you get for it

Everyone thinks that, between Ravenclaw and Slytherin, that Slytherin's the one who holds the reins, so to speak. Whenever they're in public, Slytherin usually takes the lead in conversations, while Ravenclaw is content to listen and only offer their take every now in then.

But they're wrong, because as soon as Ravenclaw is in a space they're comfortable with, off comes the filter, and you realize that they've got the dirtiest mouth in the country. Their words would leave even the most weathered, inappropriate sailors blushing like schoolgirls, and the thing Slytherin loves the most about this is that only one person gets to hear them say, and see them do, these things.

And that person is Slytherin themselves.

Oh my god I could talk about this for hours but I'll try to be quick...

(Also, this is just my opinion so don't take it to heart - I'd still read any kind of HP AU fic for them! I'll definitely read one set during the Triwizard Tournament!)

So I'm a Slytherin myself but I wouldn't put either Bradley or Jake in Slytherin. Mostly because I think putting them there would just flatten their personalities to being asshole which stereotypically Slytherina are, a bit.

Like if you look at the basics and take away the stereotypes the HP books created for the houses, you are left with:

1) Ravenclaw - intelligence, wit and learning

Which okay, they got to have some smarts to be aviators, but that doesn't seemed to be the main thing for them.

2) Slytherin - ambition, cunning, resourcefulness

Are they ambitious? If you look at their ranks, not so much -- if their thing was to climb higher, they most likely would have already been Lt Commanders, given their ages, and having a good set of aviation skills doesn't equal ambition. Are they in any way cunning? Are they trying to achieve a personal gain by deceiving someone? No. Are they resourceful in the movie? Not really - they're in environment that's set up for their skills and have a ton of support from different teams. The most resourceful person in the movie is probably Mav (which I see as either a Hufflepuff or a Slytherin)

3) Gryffindor - bravery, courage, chivalry

They're both hella brave, sure. Hangman definitely has some chivalry. But it's not their main characteristics - every pilot in the movie needs to be brave and have courage to do the mission. Bravery is not something they even think of, it's their daily routine and somehow that devalues it. Sure, Rooster was brave to go back for Mav - but he didn't do it because he was brave but because he was loyal to him. Whether you think Hangman got the take off order or that he decided himself, there was no cowardice or fear to overcome there - his reason for doing that wasn't courage.

4) Hufflepuff - patience, loyalty, hard work

With Rooster it's quiet easy to see - he is loyal to his teammates as we can see during training sequences, to Mav, even after all these years they've spent apart, he's too patient, to the point it slows him down and keeps him 'on the perch'. He is hard worker, too, just if you think about him going to UVA instead of the Academy - he'd be working twice as hard to get a top spot from a broad range of aspiring officers and prove that Mav's decision was wrong.

Now, with Hangman it's a bit different - think Neville landing in Gryffindor despite being a bit of coward. He has the need to prove loyalty and patience but he also has this barrier that tells him not to, to protect his own skin first, to prove himself first and see if then people would follow him - it's something he acquires by the end of the movie. During training, he tries hard, too hard, and that's his downfall. He saves Mav and Rooster, they are his main goal, he's patiently waiting on the carrier for the right moment. It literally takes him the whole movie but he gets there.

(This might have been a bit messy but it's 2 am and I'm on my break rn so...)

I don't know how tattoos work but I was asked to make a mock-up for one by my cousin. He just wanted a sword with the word "valor" on it in Hebrew and some vines, which is kinda vague, so I did my best. I put a few blade types at the top for him to pick from and some kind of vine leaves at the bottom so that way he has more than one example of what he was asking for

He ended up not liking the vines which was a shame, but he liked the blade in the bottom middle, so I'll take the wins where I can get them :D
