On occasion, I wind up having these like weird "cinematic" dreams. They're not connected or anything, but there's this feeling to them. Like I'm watching a movie in 5D. And oddly enough they usually have pretty well rounded plots?? Though they always end on a cliffhanger😒

and i had one recently that I just cant get off my mind

it was about two middle school aged kids meeting at a book shop. so like what i picked up on straight off the bat was one was like a stoic straight laced type of girl and the other was a troublemaking bean of a boy. And they were at this small little bookstore ran by this old couple. the was buying the next installment of some gore filled action series and she was buying a very frilly and fluffy looking shoujo manga. And I think it was meant to be important that these were both shoved into a corner at the back because the store sold more classical literature than anything else.

Anyways, being rude little kids they immediately bickered started bickering over who had the better taste in book. And they kept this up while they waited for the cashier(the owner) to finish shelving something in order to ring them up. But then they wound up actually talking about the books they liked. And even after they had paid they sort of... walked out of the shop together. They spent the rest of the afternoon walking to the park and talking to one another. It didn't take long for their bickering to turn into a real enjoyable back and forth that eventually became kind of romantic. And It was as the sun was starting to set, they sat together on the top of the play structure at a local park that he asked for her name and she told him(it was Saki cuz I'd just read a japanese horror story before bed where the main ghost was named Saki. no one else in the dream was named.) and they didn't ask when they'd see each other again. Didn't try to share information. They took a picture together at one point, but otherwise they were just too busy enjoying each other's company to really think about what would happen afterwards.

The next day, unable to get his mind off her, the boy went back to the shop. She wasn't there, obvi. But unsure how else to find her, and knowing how much she loves books, he figures, well surely she'll be back at the shop again someday. So day after day he'd go back and wait around. And he waited for years without ever seeing her. Eventually he became pretty close with the couple who ran the shop, they became something of bonus parental figures for him. When the wife died, kid started working at the shop officially, spending even more time there to help out the old man. Before I knew it he'd become quite a kind and charming man. He was a young adult I think, nearing the end of high school.

His friends were visiting the shop one day, pestering about how he spends all his time there even when he isn't working. And they're trying to convince him to go goof of with them, but he can't obviously, a new costumer just walked through the door. The dream sort of sparkled around this person, as if every detail about them was important. From this guys messy obviously dyed blonde hair, to the piercings in his ears. And he was Familiar, but not really to me. To my bookshop boy. Anyway, he couldn't figure out why the guy was familiar and just went about his shift as this guy looked around the shop. Eventually he wandered out of sight to the back of the shop and thats when one of bookshop boy's friends turn to him and goes "hey didn't that look like Saki a bit?"

The moon was high in the sky, it’s milky light illuminating everything that laid before it’s presence. Everyone was asleep at this hour- everyone but you and Xiao. Whispers and tiny moans could be heard coming from your room, but only from people who were deliberately trying to listen. Luckily, you both were quiet enough to continue without being caught.

Xiao’s hands roamed over your sides, the feeling of his skin on yours drawing another desperate noise from you. You couldn’t remember how you had ended up like this, and Xiao couldn’t either. It had started out as an innocent conversation- your lover had come home covered in scratches, so you thought you’d do him a favor and bandage them up for him. There were multiple gashes on his back, which was concerning, but you knew that things could be worse. In truth, everything was perfectly normal.

All that was exchanged between you two was just small talk, nothing more. But, within seconds after you had finished, you found yourself being pinned up against the wall of your bedroom, Xiao’s lips crashing onto yours over and over again. It was startling, but soon enough, you started moving your lips in tandem with his own, allowing his access to your being. Now, you were entangling your fingers in his hair, wallowing in the heated atmosphere.

Shining strands of black and turquoise hair fell over the Yaksha’s face as he broke away for air, a thin strand of saliva connecting your parted lips. Heavy pants filled the room, rushed whispers of affirmation flowing along with them. You let out a breathy giggle before reconnecting your lips- the rough kiss that Xiao had given you before now melting into a tender, soft one. You smoothed your thumbs over his warming cheeks. He was so soft, so vulnerable- the mere sight of him like this sent butterflies zipping through your chest.

Xiao wasn’t much different. His mind was dazed over with love- something he never thought he deserved to feel. Yet, here he was, wishing that he could finally become one with you. Everything you did made him want to squeal and dote on you- and he wanted nothing more than to return that feeling to you. With every touch of your lips against his, he became more desperate. Suddenly, Xiao pulled away from you and looked you in the eyes. He leaned up to your neck, hurriedly attacking your skin with wet, open mouthed kisses.

“X-Xiao…!” You whimpered, snaking an arm around his waist. The Adeptus pressed his lips to your neck a few more times, before moving away and nuzzling his face into your neck. He panted, a soft growl rumbling through his chest. Both of you started to come out of your lustful daze, and reality started to kick in again. Heat rushed to your ears as you realized how close he was to you. It was almost laughable- not a single person had ever affected you this much, yet this unstoppable man had managed to steal your heart.

“Ah… hah…” You exhaled, a lovestruck daze glossing over your vision. “Xiao, what- what was that about?” Your question was left unanswered by Xiao, leaving you to assume that it was just a spur of the moment thing. Heavy sighs left your mouth as you rested your head on the wall behind you. Then, your eyes drifted to the area next to your bed- right where Xiao’s shirt laid, right next to a roll of bandages.

Oh. You had completely forgotten about that.

You laid a hand on Xiao’s bare chest, taking in the feeling of his soft skin, along with his scars. You moved to lean your forehead against his, your quickened breathing slowing down as you did so. The poor boy was trembling because each gentle word and touch you laid upon him. The feeling was so beautiful, yet confusing to him. Xiao wanted nothing more than to stay with you forever in this moment- to stay here, as two young, foolish lovers, cherishing each other while basking in the moonlight.

Everything seemed so insignificant when you were around. His scars, his pain, his karma, everything he hated about life washed away in seconds when you were around. And if you were the vast ocean he was destined to drown in, he would gladly lay down his spear and let you take him. It was selfish to stick around you, but he couldn’t help it. You were too perfect, too angelic- and Xiao would be damned if he ever let himself hurt you.

Xiao has no understanding of ‘love’, in any sense of the word- but you make his world worth fighting for. So, the Adeptus presses his own forehead against yours, and finally, finally lets go. Clear, crystal tears begin to fall from his eyes, shakily bringing his hand to cup your cheeks. A soft, weak mewl rises up from the deepest part of him, alerting you of his state. Concern is plastered onto your face- that is, until you see his expression.

It was loving and warm and so unbelievably rare to see from someone like him. Gratitude was spilling out from his eyes as he stared at you, inches away from your lips. And for a few moments, everything is silent. For a few moments, you two truly are what you’ve always wanted to be- free, idiotic, and inseparable. Then, Xiao’s voice drifts through the silence. He only mumbles two words, but they mean more to you than anything else in the world.

“Thank you….”

You stared at him, a melancholy smile spreading across your lips. Your fingers rub soothing circles into his scalp as he collects himself, shaky breaths escaping his throat. Everything felt… so strange. Crying made him feel out of place and uneasy, but relieving all at the same time. It scared him, but he knew that, as long as you were with him, he’d be okay. Everything would be okay.

Xiao gazed at you, placing his hand on top of yours as it came to rest on his cheek. All is silent, and for a few moments, there is nothing but the soft breeze surrounding you. The glow of the moonlight won’t fade for a while, and the night is still young. For once, you have a rare spout of time. So, Xiao reconnects your lips, silently promising to make his absence up to you in whatever way you’d like.

the book ends literally when the movie starts so their personalities cant be that different right? lets see

DIFFERENCES:

book: when evil queen goes on about beauty related things, especially in regards to her daughter, usually evie would begrudgingly recite whatever “tip” eq taught her and just go along with what she says. not to say she hated those kinds of things, but whenever her mother brought it up, she never expressed similar excitement or engagement. more often than not she was indifferent to her mother’s beauty antics, and we only see her talk about them in regards to herself in the last few chapters (im not talking abt the mirror incident, but the one liners she’d drop about her appearance here and there) movie: when the parents first tell their kids about going to auradon, eq talks about sprucing her daughter up before she leaves and evie is visibly excited about the makeover. she also goes onto encourage it on others as seen when they’re all in the limo and she tries to put makeup on mal.

book: the villain parents are not friends and we almost never see them together. the one time we saw the parents/adults all together was in the prologue scene for evie’s 6th birthday party. after that they never interact and dont pay each other any mind. this is especially true regarding evil queen and maleficent, as they state in the book that they’ve been at odds ever since they fought over who’d rule the isle. eq has also just been welcomed back into society after being banned by the other, so time-wise, at worst, they are still enemies and, at best, barely tolerable acquaintances. movie: evil queen & maleficent have a significantly close relationship, so much so that eq knows her house like the back of her hand and where maleficent keeps things, specifically that her spellbook is in the fridge. they even have a laugh about how they use to run things before being forced to live on the isle. they seem to be genuinely close.

book: jafar and jay’s mantra is “whoever has the gold makes the rules” which was significant because it helped them while in the forbidden fortress movie: jafar and jay’s mantra is “there’s no team in I” (while this change was surprising, i also wasn’t that upset abt it bc both book and movie!jay struggle with teamwork)

book: carlos is not athletic at all and goes on about how he hates gym class. he is very focused on stem and doesn’t really care about any other kind’ve hobby. meanwhile jay is athletic and does casual parkour when going anywhere. movie: both of them do extreme parkour in the opening song. im not referring to the dancing ofc, but the extra flips and tricks they do. this is not unusual for jay, but is in regards to carlos.

book: jay isn’t the only one that goes around stealing things, mal very much does it to. at the end of the day they’d even compare how many things they’ve stolen to see who’s the best thief. jay usually wins, but still, both are thieves. movie: when they get to auradon, mal is very confused as to why jay would take the time to steal things and even needs for him to explain why he does it.

book: ben describes audrey as a classic fairy tale princess. she finds all things in auradon lovely and beautiful, and even has a bird land on her finger during their date. while she does think negatively of everyone on the isle, she acts mostly “lovely and sweet” before anything else, and it is not faked. think: giselle from enchanted. movie: idk how else to explain this difference besides “audrey just has a different vibe”. she is more regina george-esque than genuinely cheery, and puts on an obviously fake smile and attitude so often that queen belle expresses distaste for her 

SIMILARITIES:

mal likes art and goes around the isle putting up tags --- (the romance storyline wasn’t bad, but it would’ve been nice to see mal maybe join an art club? or get into painting or smthg else related to her hobby)

carlos is afraid of dogs --- in the book he can’t even say or hear the word bc it’s a trigger for him. he can say “puppies”, but he cannot say the word dog. whereas in the movie, he says the word several times. this is an extremely minor difference to be fair

when they’re afraid/think they’re in danger, they all cling to jay

they’re not used to sunlight 

the ben & mal tension on first meet (and continued infatuation before the cookie scene) --- in the book both characters have had a dream about the other. they didn’t know who the other was, but they remembered the dreams vividly enough that they were able to describe their faces in detail. in the movie when they first meet, both pause on each other several times. it’s likely because of the o’l Disney Romance™️, but it could also be because of curious recognition. 

jay is a flirt/smoother charmer and girls fawn over him

carlos is good with and likes science & technology

mal wanting to prove herself to her mother & the others not being as set on it --- in the book, mal is constantly reminded of the times her mother has called her “not worthy of bearing her own name or of being her daughter” and it causes mal to lose her cool several times. the other VKs also have parental issues ofc, but ones that are not as focused on proving themselves like mal’s are. theirs lean more towards other problems. in the movie she is extremely insistent on reminding them what they’re at auradon for and that this is their “one chance to prove themselves”

the core four freeze in fear when confronted with the reality of their parents’ pasts

mal can touch maleficent’s scepter --- to be fair that dance number in the museum was most likely just mal daydreaming, but still

jay going off on his own/following his own plan --- in the book jay and jafar plan for him to go with mal to the forbidden fortress and then double cross her and steal the scepter for himself, taking it as their “big score”. in the movie when they first see the wand with their own eyes, he runs off in front of everyone and only opens the gate enough for himself to squeeze through. carlos has to open it wider so they can all get through it after him. and once theyre in the same room as the wand, he reaches for it first against mal’s wishes.

carlos is bad at sports --- this is in both the differences & similarities section because, while in the book & movie he’s bad at sports, in the book he also doesnt like them and has no desire to do them as he is completely focused on science & tech. while after some practice in the movie, carlos joins the tourney team alongside jay. (i personally would’ve preferred for him to join a computer or engineering club)

mal can manipulate people with ease (book: evie / movie: jane & ben)

fairy godmother is mainly the one that enforces the “no magic” rule --- beast may have created it, but both in the book & the movie, people/creatures talk about fairy godmother being the one that restricts them

carlos climbs trees/searches for higher ground when afraid

evie knows how to use her looks, specifically her smile, to get the things she wants (book: persuading dr. facilier / movie: getting info out of chad)

audrey likes to dance 

carlos is sarcastic & competitive

ben wanting to be his own person rather than act like his father --- this was a good continuation from book to movie as ben only realizes he needs to be himself in the final chapters, which he just continues to encourage in the movie.

the villains aren’t good with computers/the internet --- the isle canonly doesn’t have wifi and in the movie the villains struggle with the laptop that was most likely given to them from an auradon representative

audrey’s family still being deeply traumatized by what maleficent did 

belle not letting beast talk shit 

mal pitying her mother for what she went through --- in the book: when she sees the past of what happened at aurora’s christening and sympathizes that her mother was nothing but a sad lonely girl. in the movie: the “and i really wish you hadn’t gotten there yourself” line during ben’s coronation

annddd yeah!

honestly there were a lot more similarities than i was expecting, and i am pleasantly surprised! book to movie things dont usually crossover well, but honestly, the first movie didnt do too bad of a job of it. 

tbh i think the one that probably suffered the most was audrey’s character. she really seemed very different from her book counterpart. this isnt to say that book!audrey was a saint and would’ve treated the VKs kindly, but she also wasn’t a fake person and was genuinely that cheery and upbeat all the time. whereas in the movie, it seems like almost nobody likes her (except chad) bc of her “fakeness”. 

i personally think if they were gonna go with the “bad girl and her minion” role, then audrey should’ve been the minion. in the book she was kind’ve an airhead (?? idk she just tended to have her head in the clouds a lot) and if one of the auradon girls told her to act a certain way towards the VKs for the “good of auradon”, i could see her listening to them. i dont know if she’d be the one to come up with the evil deed herself though. 

overall, the continuity flowed pretty well. i wish they didn’t change audrey’s character like they did (they probably could’ve had jane play the role of ‘stuckup girl’ tbh since she was a new character and her mother had a higher position in the kingdom compared to audrey’s parents anyway, so smthg to boast abt), but other than that, the movie’s characterizations were kinda close to the books!

Do you think there’s a difference between writing fanfiction vs. completely original prose? there is a slight difference because fanfiction provides you a sort of foundation with characters but to be honest, i believe that if you just switch the names and perspectives for most of the stories on here, it would become a bestselling hit because it conveys the same emotions and it’s just as enjoyable to read. the writers on here are truly exceptional. 

What do you think makes a good story? i definitely think little details and the nuances that add to the plot development and character development. most importantly, if a story evokes emotions from me and i can feel the story then i think it’s beautiful in itself. 

What is your writing process like? for me, i can come up with an idea based off of anything that might inspire me. like watching something, reading another story or just a dream i have. then i like to outline my stories by bouncing ideas with my best friend and from there once i figure out all the points i wanna hit i start writing! or for spur of the moment fics i deadass just start writing

Would you ever repurpose a fic into a completely original story? yes, most likely. 

What tropes do you love, and what tropes can’t you stand? i love fwb to lovers and enemies to lovers! also soulmate!aus / tatbilb tropes cus i’m a sucker for cheesy stuff. i’m not a big fan of cheating/parent/apoc!aus or love triangles. oh and i can’t stand slow burn 😭

How much would you say audience feedback/engagement means to you? as someone who lives off of validation, it means a lot and motivates me to write my stories and post them! we put so much hard work into our stories, so feedback and engagement is honestly the least you can do 🥺

What has been one of the biggest factors of your success (of any size)? i think just being in a community with other talented writers has taught me a lot!! and of course, having people read my work.

Are there any times when you regret joining Tumblr? not really! as of recently i’ve seen a lot of changes with the platform and although it’s a big struggle, i can’t regret it because it’s brought me so much.

idk… I usually have a rugh idea why I don’t like a team of football especially if it’s at a “can’t tolerate” level. So no idea.

Actually the Spurs. I’ve never followed them apart from reading results or other relevent articles. They’ve progressed and have a strong team. There’s also Liverpool who has come back being a serious contender for titles, Klopp’s has done wonders.

6. The thing you dislike the most about your club or NT 

For both Italy and France it’s the lack of patience of the fans (and I know I can lack some at times). For France NT it’s especially that kind of French mentality that I’ve seen countless times : if we win, we’re the best, we’d known all along we would win but the minute they lose everyone’s like “Of course, french in sports are always so inconsistant, overpaid brats, smh, I knew we’d lose.” and stuff like that and it drives me mad.

For Juve, it’s that lately, there’s this big clash with the spirit of the club and a huge “marketing ideal” for lack of better term : the new logo, billion years away from the historical one, the huge rise in seats prices and a disdain for the ultras who pretty much are the only one who sings at the stadium and it just look like a big enterprise being run for maximum profit forgetting parts of what is essentials to the club in the process.

8. The one time football made you so happy you couldn’t stop smiling for days 

The first time was Italy NT’s win in 2006. I felt invicible at 10 years old. I had spent a whole month being teased at, Italy being insulted at recess, some kids not speaking to me because I was the only one supporting Italy and being shamelessly vocal about it. I spent all that journey on my own, even my parents thought it weird and I was devastated french TV wouldn’t show all the games of Italy NT or when my parents didn’t let me watch because I had school in the morrow. I was also very sad because I was being transferred in another school when I knew nobody and I’d lose all my friends because the school was in the neighbouring city. I learnt that the day before Italy - Germany and gosh, I cried and I cried again at the late goals of Grosso and Del Piero. It helped lessen my dramatic 10 year old self. And then the final, when Italy won I was so happy. I had to hid the remote control so my parents wouldn’t turn off the TV because they didn’t understand the point of watching since France had lost but I argued. I couldn’t tear my eyes of all my heroes lifting that golden cup and the next day when I faced everyone at school that had told me Italy was shit and would never win all month long. Biggest smile on my face. Three days later my mom took me to the sports shop and bought me the 4 stars jersey and I still have it today.

The second was when Cannes, while in 4th division, beat Saint-Etienne right for my birthday in the round of 32 of the Coupe de France. It was super cold and it went all the way to the penalties and we won and it was the first time I saw the stadium full, completely full with about 12000 people. It was magical. At the end there was a pitch invasion and players celebrated with fans it was amazing. We went to win against Plabennec and then against Montpellier, another Ligue 1 club ! We went up until the quarter finals but ultimately lost to Guingamp. But that feeling was… Amazing.

9. The one time football made you so sad you cried for days. 

First there was Cannes getting sent to 7th division. I thought it was so unfair since the owners had done fuck all while the team gave their max. There was Alex leaving Juve the way it happened. And more recently it was Italy not qualifying for the World Cup and Gigi leaving Juve. Gosh that one was a hard blow I spent the whole week crying from his press conference to the game and after.

Danijel Subasic, my good peeps and that’s the truth. Hm Olivier Giroud and Hugo Lloris ???? ANYONE ???? (that counts as a two for one package). It’s honestly quite a rollercoaster when you’re ten years old to see your heroes win the world cup and then learn a week later that your favourite team is going to Serie B. I didn’t understand. That was the first time I really read all articles and papers I could find on the matter, even going to the public library to look at the ones I couldn’t buy and try and read everything to understand.

There was also Riccardo Montolivo’s injury just before the 2014 World Cup and Laurent Koscielny’s injury before the 2018 World Cup. I saw both happening in front of my very eyes and I felt awful, I almost wanted to cry. Injuries at such a time are, truly, the worst thing. And Montolivo wasn’t left alone by injuries afterwards and it breaks my heart.

Well Blue is a vampire, so naturally he won’t sleep at night, but for his own sleep cycle, I can’t say for certain - but I do feel like he might have trouble falling asleep. Avi for sure has trouble falling asleep.
