yeah, the x kafka fic has been so dry 💔. mostly cause there's been no new content regarding her in any of the patches and also cause so many new characters dropped. then again, i mostly consume your fics.

for me, biggest pet peeve is when they write her off as maybe too emotional or maybe too cold. like there'e never a balance. sometimes it never feels like im reading about her and just some oc😭😭

but i feel like her mischaracterization is not as bad as like acheron 💔💔 like why are just quiet girls written of as dominant and shit, she screams service top 2 me.... she would not call you mean names, she's the biggest gentlewoman out there ☹️ i think a lot of the women get a mischaracterized a lot, like acheron, ruan mei, jingliu.

the lack of new kafka fics out there definitely explains the reception to my fics bc yall are hungryyy😭 lack of content will never affect me thats my baby forever and ive been fixated on a game that’s had no new content since it came out in 2021, half a year without kafka wont make me uninterested in her character, trust… i dont often see her being too cold in fics i think its because ppl mainly want comfort so they tend to go for sappy stuff which is so real but kafka isn’t the most emotional character out there lol. what does too cold even look like omg she’d be so scary.

don’t get me started on acheron mischaracterization man. i really dont understand why people think she’s cold and mean or stupid when shes such a puppy. she’s a sweetheart with strong ideals and she holds insight most people dont have because of her connection to the nihility like she’s far from being an idiot but #these fakes acheswan fans will act like she’s the dumbass between the two and ouhhhh it irks me. so what if she has no sense of direction like😭 they’ll make acheron such a dom top which is fine cause i believe she can be but i dont see her being overtly dominant either, i can see her as a service top as well. she’s a sweetheart 😭 shes just quiet and keeps to herself. she canonically buys a bunch of gifts for the express just because she thought of them, wants to share the foods she likes with the tb, is obviously very empathetic and respectful… i dont get where the mischaracterization comes from fr.

jingliu gets mischaracterized as a mean bitch when that woman is alone 24/7 meditating under the moon be serious. she’s quiet but so obviously playful and loves to teach (which we can see in yanqing’s companion mission) like sorry she has to deal with her demons constantly and is slowly losing her mind to blood thirst and insanity so shes a little blunt and thinks there are better uses for her time than pleasantries. god forbid a woman doesn’t smile all the time and is focused on her quest for vengeance (RIGHTFULLY SO! FUCK YOU YAOSHI.)

im not a ruan mei stan so i wouldnt know but im not surprised because shes one of those “quiet, one track mind, disinterested in anything that isn’t [field of interest], disconnected from emotions” people so… on paper she really should be a favourite of mine but i just cant get into her so far idk

If you're still doing those hot take asks then all I want to say is that idk if it's common anymore but I hate it when people criticize Komaru for stupid stuff like the biggest crime of being a scared teen thrown into an apocalyptic situation and her being slightly out of touch and dumb after being locked up in a room for 2 years (the worst criticism I've ever seen was this one person who said that she never treated Toko with kindness as if she doesn't have an ungodly amount of patience the entire game, but this same person called tokomaru a "toxic friendship" soooo) tl;dr I will defend Komaru with my life she deserves better than to be stuck in udg

I think about Komaru all the time. She has a very special place in my heart, and unfortunately I think she's far and away one of the most often mischaracterized DR characters. And she gets a TON of disrespect for things that Makoto & Hajime don't get despite sharing the same traits, like people thinking she's "boring" or "doesn't have a personality outside being normal."

Personally, my big Komaru pet peeve is when people talk about Komaru as being a babysitter, or raising the Warriors of Hope after the game is over. I know it's coming from wish fulfillment on behalf of the warriors - that people want to see the abused kids get an adult who guides them back to the right path - but it's SO frustrating to see yet another female character stripped of her complexities and traumas and fears in order to be A Mother/Older Sister Figure. I HATE this trope. It makes it really obvious that they didn't actually pay attention to the character at all, because Komaru is VISCERALLY uncomfortable with the horrors they've committed and continues to struggle with the knowledge they are children vs her personal desire to get as far away from them as possible for the entire game. Komaru got dealt the absolute worst hand of any protagonist and instead of talking about the fascinating psychological effect of the "inhumane isolation for two years -> watched an entire society massacred in front of her including all of her saviors -> told to become prey in a murder game -> meets a serial killer" pipeline that she goes through in the space of like THREE HOURS?? people just want to talk about her in the context of other characters and the ways she can Help Them TM.

This got away from me. TLDR you're so right and I think Komaru should get to be on the verge of a mental breakdown, keeping herself together through the sheer force of thinking about her favorite manga! is she not valid! is she not relatable

i think one of my biggest pet peeves in fandom spaces, specifically where ppl create copious amnts of personal spins on original characters, is like,,, HEAVY mischaracterization. ofc have fun, i am in no way gonna comment hate and stuff under posts i don’t like but just a thought lol.

a lot of ppl, specifically in bigger communities (i’ll take voltron as an example off the top of my head) put characters in established tropes that are easy to manipulate and write in- again, nothing wrong with it i just don’t like it, not my preference.

say keith from vld- the guy was orphaned at a young age, has been self sufficient for a long time, matured way too early than the average kid in their setting, hasn’t necessarily needed support from anyone (aside from ofc emotional stuff but i’ll get to that). so many authors and artists infantilize him for no reason- not even gonna scrape the top of the whole fetishization mountain rn, an entire different topic whatsoever. same with pidge- they’re not a snarky sarcastic bitch that thrives when putting others down and accentuating their stupidity. they’re kind, are witty and sarcastic at moments yes but that is not their sole personality. people take characters that, more or less, have dimension to some degree in the original source and dumb it down to one, maybe two traits at best. not to say that the original source doesn’t have its flaws- hunk and lance have both been done dirty when it comes to executing character.

i love when people take characters and give them more substance, if you’re exploring lance’s self worth or whatever in your fiction i love you- things of that type. just don’t boil it down to his entire character being a loverboy who’s depressed behind the scenes.

this is majority of the reason why i rarely talk to anyone from the few big fandoms im interested in- the little communities of more niche stuff i like are usually filled with people who have the same type of outlook on character writing that i do hence why i rather stay in these silly goofy bubbles. i also stepped away from oc community based stuff cuz honestly.. so many tropes carry on to them as well- plus for some reason it always comes with unnecessary drama to boot.

What’s your biggest pet peeve regarding fanfiction story lines, like what is one thing you hate writers doing

Ooh this is interesting. I actually don't read as much fanfiction as I used to but my point still stands.

I'd say when people mischaracterize the characters. I know that people can write whatever and however they want but for me it feels weird when people try to make the characters have traits they don't have normally. Mostly I say this because those traits usually end up being racist or other derogatory stereotypes (ahem 911 fandom).

Also because then people get so involved in their fanon and headcannons that they forget how the characters act and complain when canon doesn't match that.

Side note, this isn't a pet peeve but personal preference, I'm not a fan of aus. Idk why I just prefer to read more canon compliant stories or at least only a bit divergent.

Again I don't read fics all that often anymore but this is pretty much always relevant
