A/N#2: Not sure if the title is right for the story but it's just so ugh, idk. But for sure I got a headache while writing.

Summary: You have been invited to a Christmas party by your best friend, Leah, where you meet with your ex girlfriend who you broke up with last Christmas.

You were absolutely late from the party that you have been invited to by one of your best friends. How? Well, you had to ran to buy some gifts for you friends, of course, but it didn't go well because you weren't sure what to buy for them, so it was a disaster.

The mall that you have been wondering was truly magical. It was so well decorated. Everyone seemed really happy and excited for Christmas and well... everyone had a partner. You were quite lonely and you felt lonely since your broke up with Vanessa last Christmas. Of course it had to happen on Christmas. You got into a big fight and the next day you were packing up and moving out of the shared apartment.

Your mind was filled with those old memories that you made with Vanessa in those years you were with her. Especially the Christmases, they used to be so special for both of you but now it just felt like another holiday. You quickly wiped away the thoughts and focused back on the gifts and the fact that you were late from the party! Though, you still had two hours left before it started but you knew yourself quite well that you need at least an hour to get ready.

After an hour, when you find the perfect gifts for everyone, or you hoped they were good for them, you finally got home and began to get ready for the night.

You had thirty minutes left before it started and you were not quite done. You still had to pick out an outfit and you knew it would take you 30 minutes at least to get there because of the heavy snowing.

Finally you got ready with everything. The gifts were ready to go and you were as well. You already let go of the fact that you will be late. You quickly got in your shoes and jacket, grabbed the gifts, locked the door and got into the car ready to drive.

"Hi there!" Leah greeted you with a bright smile as she opened the door. (Your best friend) "Sorry, I'm late..." You smiled nervously. "Please, it's okay, don't worry about it!" She always had that bright, joyful personality, probably that's why she was your best friend.

As she let you in you looked around the house and it was beautifully decorated. "The house looks really gorgeous." You admired it with a smile. She nodded and smiled. "Thanks. It took me hours but it was truly worth it!" She giggled and guided you further in. The house was filled with many people but you didn't really mind it. You knew most of the people so it wasn't bad.

After a few hours you fully fitted in with your friends and a few drinks were already down. Maybe, you were a bit tipsy but it wasn't noticeable at all. Though, since you got here you felt like someone has been watching you. You just thought it was because there were many people but... after some minutes that feeling wouldn't go away.

You decided to take a break from the drinking and your friends. You went out to the garden that was also decorated and the lights were truly like in a romantic Christmas movie. It was still snowing heavily but you didn't care, you liked Christmas, and it was beautiful when it was a white Christmas and you didn't have to watch it through a TV screen.

However, the feeling that someone was watching you just got more intensive. What the fuck was going on? You thought to yourself, maybe you were just going insane. Honestly, you wouldn't be surprised.

You took a deep sigh and heard footsteps in the snow. You turned to see who was following you. Was it one of your friends? Uh, no. You were really shocked to see who it was. A small gasp left your mouth and it stayed open.

It was none other than Vanessa. How did she get here?! Was she invited? Why didn't Leah tell you about it? First of all, why would she invite her?! Or... was she even invited?

You questioned these things in your head, mostly because she was wearing her cop uniform. Why was she if she was invented? She couldn't be then.

Vanessa cleared her through and spoke up. "It's a beautiful night, isn't it?" You chuckled and quickly got to the point. "What are you doing here?" You crossed your arms. "You probably weren't invited." She put her hands into her pockets and nodded with a light chuckle. "That's right." She looked down. "I was patrolling around this area and I saw your car and well, Leah let me in." You clicked your tongue and shook your head while looking away. "That girl..." She looked up at you and got closer. She was clearly taller than you. "Look, Y/N." She started and you looked at her with an annoyed look. "What is it?" She could sense that you were still sad by your break up. "I don't want to fight with you." She hesitantly continued. "But I wanna make things right between us again." You were quite surprised by this after all these months. The only thing you didn't understand was "Why now?" You asked her. She took her eyes off of you and started to nervously look anywhere else just not your eyes. "Because I realized how much I miss you. And I truly mean it, Y/N." She finally looked back at you with broken eyes.

"I miss you... So badly. It's just so hard without." You looked down, not knowing if you should believe her or not. It's not like she broke your trust in her it's just that she never made too much time for you. "I know I was a bad girlfriend, fuck, the worst. I never made much time for you but I promise you, I will from now on. If you could give me a second chance... Y/N, please." She sounded so honest and just something about her right now was so damn attractive and honest. And you had to admit to yourself how badly you missed her.

"Can you wait here for a moment?" You spoke up and looked into her eyes. She instantly nodded. "Of course, take your time." As she said you went back into the house.

Vanessa was really curious why you went back in such a hurry. One part of her was also quite scared about why you went back in such a hurry. She started to think you would just leave her there and go home but of course, you didn't do that.

After some minutes you got back to her with something in your hand. "Close your eyes." You said with a small grin on your lips. Vanessa did as you said. She closed her eyes. Some seconds later you spoke again. "You can look now." Vanessa opened her eyes and noticed you were holding something up. It was a mistletoe! She smiled and looked back into your eyes. "I wanna make things right between us too..." You looked down nervously. Vanessa took your chin and lifted up to look into your eyes. "I'm so happy to hear that..." She smiled. "Can I kiss you?" You nodded and she leaned closer and kissed your lips lovingly.

This moment truly felt like a scene you saw on the TV some days ago when you were watching a romantic Christmas movie. But now, you got to be the main character who always gets the happy ending. Everything felt just so perfect.

"Merry Christmas, Vanessa." She brushed your hair behind your ear. "Merry Christmas to you too, Y/N."

I'm v curious to see how the pjo show will portray Percabeth and Percy's feelings for her throughout the show.

cause imo, in the books Percy straight up doesn't even realize he has feelings for her until much muuuuuch later (whether it be oblivion or denial), but in like book 3 he's so worried for her he's starting fights with god's. she's literally all he thinks about in the Titans Curse, but never in a romantic way. Percy never thinks about her in a romantic way till probably book 4, when she kisses him, and even then it's a rare occurrence until book 5.

we just knew he had feelings cause he'd think stuff like "wow she's beautiful," or prints out a picture of her and keeps it with him, or constantly thinks about her when Rachel was around, or think Aphrodite looked like her. ACTIONS wise I know exactly why Annabeth was yelling at him by book 5. he never showed romantic feelings for her outwardly except for rare occasions that could be interupted as friends, even when she kissed him. not until, again, book 5 when he asks for a good luck kiss and literally screams at everyone not to touch her when she's injured.

anyway, so I'm interested to see how they're going to display it for the viewers on the screen when we won't have Percy's narration telling us obvious things that show us he loves her. I'm wondering if they're going to be more straight forward with it. in the books you knew Percy liked her but again only because of his thoughts, and not until book 3 tbh. but in the show s1 already had so much implied Percabeth. like Percy looked at her so many times like he wanted to marry her right then and there that is was shocking to me (not complaining) cause Percy really only acted like he saw her as a friend by that point in the books.

SO I wonder if they're going to continue this trend of just having Percy look at Annabeth longingly a lot and hope those who haven't read the books catch on, or will they go a step further and having him talk to people about his feelings? will Percy talk to Grover about her? in the books they would never, Percy didn't even know Grover had a girlfriend at one point. they weren't the type of bromance to talk about their feelings. however TV show Grover and Percy would easily talk about their feelings. they're more open and vulnerable around each other in the show.

and if they do that, then are they going to make it canon (canon to me is if Percy knew he had feelings for Annabeth before book 4 of 5 and said it himself. he never says he has feelings, and even talks about his feelings for other characters like Calypso and Rachel, so to me its not canon that he did know unless he said those words himself) that Percy is aware of his feelings before book 5?? or are they just gonna have scenes like in s1 with Luke where he calls them an old married couple and Percy and Annabeth ignore it. I could also see Grover just teasing him about her and Percy just acts like he never even thought about it

idk I'm really interested on how they're going to show us in TV form. half of me wants it to stay canon, but the other part of me wants to see a Percy verbally attest that he likes her but she'd never like him like that - or say something like Annabeth was too good for him (which I always got the feelings was half the reason why Percy didn't pursue anything till much later). even after Annabeth kisses him he's like "as friends???? hmmm???" and I truly do no think until she yells at him for being a coward that it occurs to Percy that "Oh, that WASN'T a good luck kiss then." like he WANTED to kiss her but he didn't think she liked him like that EVEN AFTER SHE KISSED HIM. sigh. sweet, dumn Percy. how I love thee.

but show Percy really isn't as a dumb as book Percy was in the first book, so there's a huge possibility they'll make it more obvious. I feel like for the sake of wanting fans invested in the ship, they'll make him more aware of his feelings imo. they already did so in s1, and book 1 truly was just Annabeth and Percy learning to be friends.

no matter what, I cannot wait for s3, because I would do anything to see Walker act out Percy worried about Annabeth. PERCY TRYING TO FIGHT MR. D CAUSE HES NOT WORRIED ENOUGH FOR ANNABETH???? I literally cannot wait.

I'm getting tired of the "If Azriel only cares about the mating bond, why is he after elain who already has a mate" argument, when Azriel himself literally gave us the reason why in his pov:

3 brothers + 3 sisters.

That's the damn reason.

The bonus chapter literally starts with him obsessing over mating bonds and envying his brothers.

These are the right question to ask: if he's so in love with Elain, wtf is that "He hadn't gotten that far with his planning, certainly not beyond the fantasies he pleasured himself to" line? Why tf couldn't he think beyond sex in the elriel part the whole time? Why didn't he tell Rhys that he loves and cares for her instead of telling him the whole "Why was the third sister given to another??" bs? Why was it so easy for him to move on afterwards? Mind you, he had the chance to know her for over 2 years.. For someone who's apperantly in love, he sure isn't acting and thinking like it.

I still haven't gotten a valid explaination. It's just "Gwyn manipulated him" and "Azriel isn't allowing himself to further think about it" or "It's natural for him to think like that"- but Lucien would've gotten flamed for it.

Sorry, I had to rant. I usually don't and have long since given up on thinking about this ship war, but some elriel post on my fyp on Insta brought up this dumb argument back and it's just..🤦‍♀️

If that line doesn't convince you then idk what will!! I want to compare it to Feyre only managing to have a connection and only form of communication with Tam/in through sex. The phrase "skin to skin" was used at least 3 times in acomaf.

And look at what other MMCs have said about their mates:

"I would have waited five hundred more years for you. A thousand years. And if this was all the time we were allowed to have … The wait was worth it."

“I will find you again in the next world—the next life. And we will have that time. I promise.”

I know people drag Lucien for this line but what they don't want to see is he's fighting for her. He's coming back every time he's invited to one of their ceremonies, he always brings gifts for her, he respects her and never forces himself on her, he just sits there and watches from afar, waits for her signals. He's waiting for her and doesn't care how long. Just like Rhys, just like Cassian. Rhys never forced himself on Feyre and was fine with her being in love with another person and he knew Feyre was his mate long before she even met Tam/in. Cassian would've waited for Nesta in another life for her to join him.

Like as I'm writing these, I have tears in my eyes, literally. Because look how romantic is that!! Look how sure they're in their love for their mates even if they didn't know they're already in love. Look at Lucien who keeps coming back with no expectation. This is how love looks on a guy!! They respect them long before the feeling reciprocate.

And we have Azriel... who jerks off by the thought of Elain and it's his only thoughts of her. I'm not saying it's wrong but just compare him to others...

It's not how sjm writes his MMCs as much as everyone else wants to find this romantic. I mean sure, if this doesn't deter you from loving them then by all means, it's your preference and it's totally fine. If you think this is peak romance then I think you should higher you standards but then again it's not my business at all. But other people finding this weird and not romantic is valid.

He calls her the third ffs (she's the second sister but ok Az it doesn't seems math is your strong suit anyway) He acts like she's some kind of object when he says "was given to another" like I'm sorry?

And more importantly Az never answer Rhys question about Mor... He is still in love with her (I'm sure he has no idea what love is) and he's giving the same treatment he gave her to Elain. I call this obsession and desperation for a mate. And the moment he gets a mate he will leave both of them for his mate. Everyone always say Elain will break the bond and leave Lucien, which now we know she will never not feel him in her soul, but never how Azriel will react the moment he finds his mate. Which their answer is Azriel and Elain are the real mates. And we know they're not...

Anyways I just wanted to add a little to what you said and compare it to other characters and why we don't think Azriel and Elain will ever end up together. Sjm write romance and love stories first and not smut. Yes sure she approach Nessian this way and only because it would suit their story but Nesta literally say she was always in love with Cassian since the moment they met. And I don't think whatever Azriel is feeling for Elain is love or even lust. He feels this way because he thinks Elain should be his mate. He jerks off to the thought of Elain being his mate and not Elain herself.

Thank you for tagging me on this Lix! Answering this was so fun and the results are crazy accurate actually, I'm so surprised! I did it for Kurumi, Kana and Yui! The results are pretty long (+a few comments), so I'm putting it under here.

Kurumi: Bright Sunny Yellow

Sweet tasting popsicles, summer dresses and shielding your eyes from the sun. Your love is the excitement of something brewing, something growing. It's the almost childish bubbling giggles of something new, but with the potential to stay. It's wide smiles, blinding sunny light and warm bodies that gravitate to one another. It's the the softness, the willingness, the slight holding of breaths in a crucial "what if" moment. It's the impatience too. The bouncing on tiptoes to see further than your eyes can reach, the holding out for a future that never seems to come even though you're ready, you're so so so ready. It's the constant feeling of warm sand beneath your feet, holding out for the crashing waves. And still you wait, dry and impatient and with burnt soles of feet. It's pretty lore accurate in both romantic and platonic aspects. The platonic aspect of it is more applicable to her childhood, when she yearns to feel more secure with her friendships. It's unintended, but the metaphors here parallels and fits so nicely with Kana's.

Kana: Dark Stormy Blue

In platonic terms, Kana is the wave and Kurumi is the person at the shore waiting for her to crash & soothe her pain. She may seem emotionless, but her love (if you earned it) is as vast as the ocean and as deep as the abyss (for better or for worse).

Yui: Deep Staining Red

Ripped out confessions, warm velvety whispers and a heart like an open wound. Your love flows out like dripping blood, beautiful, flawed and twisted. It's gut wrenching, the type of painfully dramatic feeling that makes you clutch your chest, picturing dramatic monologues about love and loving and big screen over the top scenes of sobbing into your pillow until you fall asleep. It rips out of you, clawing it's way up your throat more so than tumbling out. Sticky words that just need to be let out, feelings so big they don't fit inside you. Your love isn't easy, it's a true bloody mess, dripping and staining everything it touches in a desperate attempt to be seen, to be felt, to be loved back. And you, you love so hard, so deeply, so much for someone who carries all that pain. Atlas holding up the world, how are you? Is your love still flowing? Is your heart still open? Still pumping and bleeding and dripping with blood and tears? Still painting your beautiful pictures and writing your love letters in deeply personal red ink? Because I see them, I read them, I love them and you, you, you, you. Clench your chest, scream your love, cry it out. Spill your words of loving, keep your heart beating, keep your love coming and paint the entire world red with it. Make it in your image, keep going, it's okay. Maybe one day the whole world can be red and loved and beautiful just like you.

Note: His main color is actually gray, but since he has Lightning Flames, I'll use green as substitute for the highlights.

It has a similar feeling to Kurumi's but more bold in color (Yellow vs Red). Instead of waiting, he actively looks for them instead and makes himself seen, so he can be found. Keep going, it's okay, you'll find them.

wow wow ok uh I'm watching the fight scene again apparently through completely fresh eyes bc it's been since the airing that I've watched it tbh but oh wow ok

"It's a very dangerous world out there." "You're joking, right? It's me who's been protecting you!" "So what, you shooed away some assassins, who gives a shit?"

and then the scene where Nandor refuses to turn him because he sees vampirism as a curse that guillermo doesn't deserve to deal with and couldn't possibly consent to because he doesn't understand what it means to live that way (which, to nandor at this point, means to be endlessly miserable)

see this is why the 'Nandor is toxic' arguments frustrate me because okay yeah sure he is, but he's also emotionally repressed and very, very clearly preoccupied with what he believes is best and safest for Guillermo. When he brushes off Guillermo's abilities here he's not actually undermining and insulting him just for the sake of cruelty or because he doesn't care, but because he's trying to convince Guillermo he's not good for him, his way of life as a vampire is not safe or fair for Guillermo to resign himself to. I get that it's vague and easily seen as Nandor just being a dick but like, honestly, if anyone in the show is protective of Guillermo's best interest (at least what they perceive that to be) it's Nandor. Like?? This should've confirmed beyond a shadow of a doubt that Nandor's constant rejection of and pushing Guillermo away is because, in his own ridiculous, well-meaning but foolish way, he fully knows and believes he doesn't deserve him. Sure, Nandor might still be selfish enough to let Guillermo stick around in a servant capacity, and I think to some extent that is the work of years of both of them being completely shut off, consciously, from deeper feelings that were forming- so by the time they're hopelessly in love with each other it's too late to do the right thing lol. Nandor didn't expect or probably even want to fall in love with his familiar, but now that he is he's got to keep that distance at all costs.

And honestly it's so sweet to me in a weird I guess fucked up way idk, that despite witnessing Guillermo destroy an entire theater of vampires on his own, Nandor still believes at this point that he has to protect him- not necessarily from other vampires hurting him, but from himself.

So, okay. That's really what makes the difference when Guillermo finally 'crosses blades' with Nandor. In doing so, he demonstrates that he will not hesitate to stop Nandor from doing something he'd regret, and that if Nandor were to try to hurt him, intentionally or otherwise, Guillermo physically can stop him. And will. It really didn't matter if Guillermo killed a hundred, a thousand vampires on his own, Nandor needed to know that he could and WOULD stop him too, even for whatever affection they feel for each other.

In a very strange way, this is the watershed moment where they make those boundaries clear, and thus the way forward to them being something more than just master and familiar is revealed. They'll run away together, finally.

Until this point I fully believe, for Nandor, that Guillermo was a non-option for anything but familiar. He wasn't to be drunk from by anyone, he wasn't to be looked at, he wasn't to be encouraged in vampirism or closeness with any of them, and anything in the vein of being lovers, well- unthinkable, and all for the sake of his safety and preservation. Nandor wanted to keep Guillermo wrapped up in a little cotton box for himself, like a little porcelain doll that he could admire and pine for from afar and still enjoy his companionship. He probably knew this was selfish and wrong too, in some part of him, but i have no doubt he justified it away time and time again. 'He's just a familiar' 'Well I'll turn him someday so it's not a complete lie. Someday.' etc etc etc

And I mean, couple this in consideration with the many, many times Nandor has risked his own immortal life for the chance to spare Guillermo's. Whenever he's really been in danger, Nandor's there to save him or give an excuse that puts himself at risk. Like. Ugh. I know Nandor's demonstrations of this are fucked up, but my god he loves Guillermo.

And also significant, this toxic way of dealing with his feelings applies only to when they're -not- in a relationship. That's been dealt with, I believe, to the point that when they are finally at that point it's going to be a different dynamic entirely (just a guess, but I'm thinking horribly openly unashamedly besotted with each other bc they finally get to be)

I'm still crossing my fingers for Kairi being the other playable character. No offense to any other big potential possibilities but we've 2 (3 if you count kh2) games playing Riku for a big portion of the game. Roxas had a whole game to himself as well as kh2 long prologue. Aqua technically starred in 2 games too. I'd love to have Kairi jist to finally have played all Destiny trio members and to see her fighting style. Plus since Light's going to expire maybe the keyblader who's a pure light --

(2/2) will be left standing in a reality overtaken by darkness? Idk, she’s already saved Sora’s butt once by basically defying all accepted logic. I have a feeling she could do it again (plus we’ve had so much Sora+Riku development and even really cute Kairi+Riku interactions, I want some heavy focus on the Sora+Kairi bond again considering they’re each other’s most important person).Answer, here be KH3 spoilers: 

I’d love for Kairi to be the other playable character for the reasons you mentioned, but lately I’ve been thinking there’s a good chance Roxas will be the other playable character instead.

For one, his move set is similar to Sora’s, so it’s probably easier to have him as a playable character.

For another, just like how we play as Roxas for a little while in KH2 and we even have to fight him near the end of the game, it would be an interesting twist to play as Roxas again, this time as the good guy fighting Sora near the end of the game (if Soranort happens).

Plus, if Sora falls to darkness saving Roxas, I can see Nomura going for the parallel of Roxas returning the favor and saving Sora.

And, let’s be honest, Roxas is a lot more popular with the fanbase than Kairi, and Nomura is probably aware of that. He tends to give more screentime to fan favorites like Lea, Aqua, and Riku (though Riku has waned in popularity somewhat in Japan at least) than to the (as of late) neglected Kairi and Naminé, who scored third and fourth place in the female character popularity poll behind Aqua and Xion. Of course, this is arguably even more of a reason to have Kairi be playable, but history is not on Kairi’s side here.

Would I like a playable Kairi? Yes, but honestly, I probably would enjoy playing as Roxas again. I’d rather have him be playable over Riku, since we’ve had plenty of chances to play as Riku already and DDD was more his game than Sora’s. Playable Riku wouldn’t ruin the game for me though; I do think if the other playable character was him, however, Nomura wouldn’t have been so secretive about it.

The one thing I do think that might hint at Kairi being a playable character is that she has been shown on the cover art with her Keyblade: 

This isn’t by any means conclusive, but it’s interesting to note that the only other characters who have their Keyblades on that cover art are Mickey, Sora, and Riku, who have all been playable at some point or other throughout the series.

My guess is that this is hinting that these four (Mickey, Riku, Sora, and Kairi) will be the main characters of this game, but it’s hard to say, and again, hoping for tons of screentime for characters who are not Sora is setting expectations that might not get met. 

But based on what we know, I think the narrative will follow three general arcs: Riku and Mickey’s search for Aqua and whatever comes next, Sora’s quest to gain the Power of Waking and find The Key to Return Hearts, and Kairi’s training along with Lea. It would make sense for at least one of these other main characters to be playable, and fingers crossed it’s Kairi.

Who knows, maybe we’ll get lucky and Sora, Kairi, and Riku will all be playable though! If Soranort does happen I’d love for Kairi (along with Riku) to be the ones to rescue him because of those potential parallels with KH1.

No matter what happens, however, give me more moments of Sora and Kairi bonding, please and thank you! As friends, as allies, as potential romantic interests, because we NEED to see more of their relationship! KH1 did a good job of this, but you’re exactly right - KH3 would do well to focus more on their bond again. They’ve been separated for so much of the series and that separation has NOT done their romantic development (or friendship, for that matter!) any favors. 

Think about it: we haven’t seen them on screen together since Blank Points. It’s been eight years (nine for the Japanese fans). Now, I think Nomura has something special planned for their reunion, because he carefully avoided having them meet in 0.2, but Square Enix in general lately has… not been good about having their main couples actually interact with each other (looking at you, Noctis and Luna and Snow and Serah, though the latter was much better about this than the former). And let’s face it, interaction is VITALLY important for a good romance! Don’t tell me they are deeply in love, SHOW me.

I am a HUGE SoKai fan, as anyone who has read my writing can tell you, but… even I know that if Nomura wants to further their romance in a believable way, they actually NEED to be on screen at the same time. Talking. Interacting. Cracking jokes. Making each other laugh. Comforting each other. Cheering each other up. Lingering gazes. Lingering hand holds. Reminiscing about shared memories. Grand romantic gestures. Small acts of love. Big acts of sacrifice.

And the thing is… every time they have been on screen together so far, their interactions have been fantastic! The chemistry is there, the emotion is there. Their reunions are always the highlights of the games. There just hasn’t been enough shared screentime, and the two of them desperately need more of it for their romance to develop believably.

I’d even argue that Sora’s feelings have been demonstrated well. There’s no doubt about how he feels about Kairi; he sacrificed his life for her in KH1, Xion looks like her because of how much she means to him; Naminé replaced his memories of her with memories of Naminé because Naminé knew she was the most important person to him, he can’t wake up in KH2 until he has his memories of her back, etc., etc. It’s not much of an exaggeration to say the plots of two entire KH games (COM and Days) have been centered around how much she means to him.

It’s more on Kairi’s end that I want to see more about what Sora means to her, and it’ll help if she has more screentime. Especially if she’s playable. That being said, I don’t want her to only think and talk about Sora; she needs to have just as much depth as he does. Let her interact with other people and have friends of her own, just like Sora has friends of his own. Her growing friendship with Lea is promising, but I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t worried that that’s going to center completely around Xion, given Xion’s popularity with the Japanese fans. I’m worried Lea won’t value Kairi for Kairi, instead the audience will just constantly be reminded of how much Kairi reminds him of Xion instead of treating Kairi like her own person.

I mean, c’mon, she’s the original! Without her Xion wouldn’t even look like she does! Naminé wouldn’t exist! Sora wouldn’t have needed to sacrifice himself to save her in the first place, so Roxas wouldn’t either, for that matter. For a series so big on how special and unique every heart is, no matter how it came into existence, it’s kind of shooting yourself in the foot if you treat one of the original main characters as lesser than the people she helped create! 

To be fair, though, that’s more just my concerns, and we don’t know how things will actually play out in the game, so I’ll reserve further judgment until then.

But I actually have hope that we will see Kairi and Sora interacting more in this game, mainly because of this:

“Destinies intertwine, and an oath becomes power” - combined with the quote about a new charm that seems to imply Kairi will be giving Sora some sort of leveled up version of her good luck charm, if not a completely new one, and my guess is that they will talk at least once before the final battle. Hopefully during the battle and after the battle as well. I have a hunch that even if Kairi is not playable, she might very well be a party member along with Riku for the final world.

And I am really excited about that. That screenshot above at least is proof that they’ll have time alone together to talk, which is in and of itself huge! The last time they were alone together was in KH1. Even in KH2 other people were present for their reunions. Alone time like this is a sign of something special, make no mistake about that :) (Edit to add: and no, I don’t think this is proof that Riku is dead. Riku exists outside of their relationship, and they exist outside of their relationship with Riku. He’s a good friend and knows when to give them their space, that’s all. Riku is also the deuteragonist of the series and it would make little sense to kill him off in a game that seems like it’s going to be all about saving and restoring people, but that could be an entire post of its own and I’ll leave things as they are for now). 

Anyway, this got really long-winded, but yes, I’m hoping Kairi is the other playable character too, because I want her to get the screentime and development she deserves.

What in your opinion makes Rogue One so good? I'm undecided about seeing any of the Star Wars side movies at this point, but curious about the positive reactions.

I’m pretty tired so forgive me for my disconnected thoughts.

Good things about Rogue One:

It manages to be a good prequel. It has its own story to tell and it tells with without compromising, altering, or retconning anything that comes before or after it–at least to my knowledge.

The characters are all great. Their backstories are pretty simple, not gonna lie, but there’s enough meat there to sink your nerdy teeth into, and it’s not so much that it distracts from the story that’s being told.

Speaking further of the story: we’ve never really had cause to think overmuch about what we already knew about the Death Star plans and how the Rebel Alliance found themselves in possession of them. I think most of us took the knowledge for granted; it was just part of a much bigger story and didn’t really matter. We knew only that they were acquired at great cost. It was really wonderful how this tidbit of information was turned into a full story populated by a cast of characters who honestly felt they meant something.

I mean, these characters have presence. All of them. Even the droid, who doesn’t feel like a cutesy/fun sidekick so much as a character.

Understated romance. YAY.

Two middle aged POC men who can be longtime BFFs or husbands? SIGN ME UP. Their interactions are SO GOOD. You will feel so many things.

Main characters who kind of have a romantic connection but due to the nature of the story it never really manages to develop into anything; the advantage of this is that if you prefer romance to stay out of your sci-fi space battles, it’s pretty easily ignored, but if you’re shipping trash you can delight in every little thing.

POC main character with an accent! YAY! Nobody in-canon comments on it at all; it’s just a natural part of the world LIKE IT SHOULD BE.

Another kickass female character whose kickassness makes sense and whose flaws are grounded in a simple (but pretty easy to understand) history.

The main villain character is SO INTERESTING.

BODHI. Bodhi’s as much a reason to watch the entire film as anything. It’s not that he plays a small role or anything, but he doesn’t say a whole lot over the entire course of the film and we don’t learn a whole lot about him; despite this, he comes across as a pretty deeply fascinating and relateable character. He’s definitely the “coward who tries really hard to be brave” character. I know people were a little afraid that Bodhi wouldn’t be as well-liked as some of the others due to the lack of any (even potential) romantic intent surrounding him, but so far from what I’ve seen he’s pretty universally well-liked. 

The grey area that the Rebel Alliance functions in is pretty darn clear in this film. The Empire is terrible but the Alliance’s hands aren’t exactly clean, either. None of that “the alliance are all pure beans” crap.

I appreciated how they showed that even within the Alliance there are extremist groups. Better yet, that the Rebels have plenty of child soldiers themselves. I have no love for the Empire but I have to say that I was really sick of the Alliance being so overtly good vs. the big bad evil horrible no good terrible Imperials. Like…yes, we get it, you want your good guys to be Really Good. But it doesn’t make sense and it can’t work that way. This movie did a nice job of showing a hint of the underbelly of the Alliance, too.

Really opinionated things:

I liked it better than The Force Awakens on my initial watch, but on my second watch I was like “I could probably watch this 50 more times and I’d feel something every single time, but I doubt I would even be able to get through TFA that many times.”

I know this is a pretty common opinion right now, anyway, but I’ve been trying to put together coherent reasons why I liked Rogue One so much better. Truthfully, though, I hesitate to say it’s a fair comparison since Rogue One is a standalone film and TFA is the start of a trilogy; the function of these films is completely different.

That said, the lack of Kylo Ren made it 300% better automatically.

Blue Leader, the secret good bean. I liked him and his mustache. Kiss my ass.

I thought the council’s mixed opinions on fight/not fight was pretty well done. If nothing else, I found it completely plausible.

I’m only like three chapters into the novelization but it’s GREAT so far. I’m impressed by the good writing. That’s saying something. So if you liked the film consider getting the novelization!

Things I didn’t care for:

Darth Vader. Out of his three appearances I can only really justify using screen time on one.

I kinda hoped they’d make Tarkin appear less, too? Or at least make him seem more mysterious. I was a little disappointed when he turned away from the window the first time because I thought his disdain for Krennic would have made more sense if he’d refused to look away from the window–in one of those “lmao you’re not worth my direct attention asshole” ways.

CGI Leia could have been better; the kind of side/profile of her face shot was great and then they cheesed it. (HOPE? REALLY? I get the urge to do this, really. But turning full into the camera and lifting her eyes to say it? Too much. ALSO I THOUGHT OBI-WAN WAS YOUR ONLY HOPE WHAT THE HELL.)

The pun. No thank you.

Saw’s role was pretty minimal and lacked depth. Instead of spending screen time on Vader I’d have preferred to have had a little more time with Saw. Or his rebels. 

The tentacle monster thing brought with it all kinds of gross connotations I could have done without. They weren’t subtle, so I feel like they might very well have been intentional. The worst part about this was that there was no lasting impact so the entire thing could have been completely cut and replaced with a throwaway bit where Bodhi was just thrown into complete darkness for days. Cassian, Baze, and Chirrut could have joined him there later.  And he would have had something in common with Jyn idk.
