Alright so I decided to torture myself fully listen to Viva Las Vengeance and give my two cents on it.
I indicated which songs I was listening to for the first time by putting an asterisk (*) next to the title
Just a little disclaimer: these are just my silly opinions, so please take them with a grain of salt.
…
Viva Las Vengeance
bro is trying to be like freddie mercury
his vocals don’t really match the music
this is kinda like a mix of vices & virtues and doab but in a weird way
what the fuck was that high note at the end he was clearly straining his voice
Middle Of A Breakup
these lyrics make no sense
like wtf is “keep your disco, gimme T-rex” ?????
again his voice doesn’t really match the music itself
this??? kinda sounds too much like viva las vengeance to me idk
Don’t Let The Light Go Out*
he sounds??? out of breath???
“you’re the only one who knows how to operate my heavy machinery” this line wouldn’t be that bad if it wasn’t sung so high compared to everything else
this song isn’t that bad actually
Local God
homie pls stop dissing ryan ross for no reason it’s been several years since you last talked him
oh no his voice doesn’t match the music again
help the verses and the chorus sound like two different songs like they don’t match
so what if ryan is way less known than brendon; ryan will always be superior <3
i do not like this song at all
Star-Spangled Banger*
“hOme oF tHe fREaKs”
what the fuck this shit is not a banger
again the verses do not match with the vibes from the chorus
oh my god his high notes are like nails scratching on a chalkboard
this song feels like a hate crime /j
homeboy is straining his voice A LOT here
God Killed Rock and Roll*
dollar store bohemian rhapsody
again his high notes are so obnoxious and out of place
i really have nothing else to say about this song
like it’s not bad but it’s not good either
Say It Louder*
“for the people in the back, back, back🥴”
this is kind of a bop tbh
i think i only said that because it doesn’t sound like he’s straining his voice for once
Sugar Soaker*
“you’re a car, you’re a woman, you’re a drug” ????????
i can vibe with this one,,, i think
“come on come come on coME ON COME ON”
Something About Maggie*
who tf is Maggie
“LeT hiM gOoooOo” please stop hitting high notes please
“makes me want to slit my wristssssss” bro is trying to be eDgY
why is he stressing the S’s so much
straining his voice again especially in the second verse
what was with that random beat change towards the end??? idk i found that weird
Sad Clown*
oh look he’s becoming self aware🤡
voice doesn’t make the music again
the high notes😬
seriously who is Maggie??? and Gloria??
this song is overwhelming me and not in a good way
BRUH I SWEAR TO FUCKING GOD WHY DOES HE KEEP CHANGING THE TEMPO OF THESE SONGS OUT OF NOWHERE LIKE THIS IS GETTING TO BE ANNOYING
All by Yourself*
“you sweet little kitten” im going to yeet myself off a bridge
i thought i was listening to panic at the disco not celine dion’s “all by myself”
straining his voice for the 463738th time
this song is kinda boring tbh
Do It To Death*
don’t know how to feel about this either
i mean it kinda sounds similar to viva las vengeance
that high note gave me a mini headache
ooooh wow nostalgia from pftw with the orchestra at the end
what did we just go full circle because now he’s singing shut up and go to bed
…
My Final Thoughts
I had a feeling that I wasn’t going to like this album, and I was right. Brendon’s voice just isn’t as good as it was before. If he wasn’t constantly straining his voice, then maybe this album would’ve been slightly more tolerable. I’ll admit, though, that there are a few songs that I enjoyed (Sugar Soaker, Don’t Let The Light Go Out, & Say It Louder). But all the other songs sounded so off-key and messy to me. Overall the lyrics were boring and unoriginal. Needless to say, I was pretty disappointed with this album. I mean, I wasn’t expecting much from it, but it was way worse than I thought it would be.
Again, this is just my opinion on Viva Las Vengeance. I don’t mean to offend anyone who likes this album; if you like it, then that’s completely fine.
#panic at the disco#panic at the brendon#patd#brendon urie#viva las vengeance#middle of a breakup#don’t let the light go out#local god#star spangled banger#god killed rock and roll#say it louder#sugar soaker#something about maggie#sad clown#all by yourself#do it to death

once again blown away by arcane and I am now shamelessly comparing it to tcw and tbb since those two shows are siblings. we're taking this category by category:
soundtrack: arcane has something nice going on ill admit. i like the opening theme. orchestral is always a classic but tbb is not hitting anymore and I actively hate the theme song.
voice acting: arcane takes it. even tho Vi's VA is the weakest (to me) out of all the characters she's still leagues (lol--LMAO) ahead of what basically everyone (which is just two people) on tbb is giving. Dee Bradley Baker is not a good voice actor when it comes to human voices. there. i said it. and most of the VAs for tcw and TBB, or perhaps the voicing director, didn't really have natural sounding voices (to me. this is all opinion). you never got the guttural/gruff quality to voices where a situation would call for it. why are people yelling without strain.
dialogue: this ties into VAing as well. and again, arcane wins. tcw and tbb could never make use of silence. nobody ever stops talking. you dont hear characters breathe, hesitations in conversation last a microsecond at best, and everything is always. at. the same. volume. same speed, same tone--all of which makes the dialogue seem monotonous compared to arcane. people interrupt and they switch pitch and speed as the situation calls for it. have you noticed how in the clone wars/the bad batch, even when people are arguing they're taking turns? and if someone asks a question, it always gets a verbal response. noboyd just makes a face in response to a statement or comment or question.
animation: arcane has visual quirks that tcw should have maintained. a paintbrush look looks good on anything, but forwhatever reason they got rid of it in tcw, and it doesn't seem to be in tbb. Arcane has texture, it has weight. the action scenes and fight scenes make use of environments and theyre clever battles and they can still layer in emotional development in the process. tell me why with the budget for tbb they still can't make punches and kicks seem natural 🥴
and because the animation is what drew me to arcane: arcane takes the cake on every aspect of animation. every single one. like im not even joking. but what i noticed today is that tcw/tbb are not good at conveying emotion through faces. facial expressions come across stiff, or they're taken way too far as though the team doesnt know the limits of their own models (I can think of several exmaples right now). body language is in the toilet and the shoulder rigging is still weird after more than a decade, and its like the team tried to make up for this by throwing in the ocassional arm swing or head toss--which, again, they can't seem make it look natural. there's exactly one way for a character in tcw/tbb to display that they're angry and that's by leaning forward and tipping their head down and its kajsdhfklsjd PLEASE.
arcane makes use of the environment in its animation. it doesnt just do aerial shots of a city or building and then lock its characters into 3/4 mid-shot (or the ocassional closeup) the way tcw/tbb does. in tcw/tbb, if a character is talking you always see them on screen (unless there's a comm but even then its not for long). arcane can have a disembodied voice and do it well. it will show hands, feet, wide shots, characters touching + interacting with the things around them, peripheral objects, all of that.
which leads me to cinematography: idk if thats the right word akksajhdfla but arcane is just more dynamic!! its fluid! again, its being a cartoon doesnt mean it has to follow sitcom framing of 3/4 posing, waist/chest/shoulder up shots, etc. if the characters in arcane are in a room, you will see the whole room. you'll see the wall, the bed, the floor, etc. tcw never really did that and TBB will waste time giving us a beautiful shot of a city and then stuff the camera into that ship for the entire episode akjshdflaakjshdfl
writing: arcane wins! you shouldn't be surprised by now. worldbuilding in arcane is good considering how i dont know anything about LoL, and that has not once impacted my enjoyment of the show. tcw is actually also good with worldbuilding for its expansions of star wars lore. tbb has added little (its only been a season so ill give it that) but its reliance on cameos when everyone and their mother on the creative team keeps saying its not TCW.....yikes.
arcane maintains tension and maintains it well. it knows drama. it knows pain and longing and loss. tcw did this pretty well too, but the writers were also scared of their own power so they never went farther! they abandoned the clones when the questions got too tough and the internal amnesia in the show was through the roof. plots are straight up dropped. tbb is just shit like its pure shit in terms of writing. it has a quarter of a redeeming quality in terms of one character dynamic but characterization clocked out and pacing never showed up for her shift kasjhdlfksajdf. but you know who does it well? arcane.
arcane wins. ive watched every available episode and im going to watch them all again in a couple days with a friend. please go watch arcane.
