hey so with everything that's going on with know a felon being in office if you are in California, New York, Chicago, Florida and a couple more states today please be safe and know your rights. ICE raids will start today. If you see an ICE van or see anyone from ICE shout "la migra" so that Spanish speaking people will understand what that means and they can leave safely, try to spread the word.

right now ICE is trying to find people with a past criminal record which mean a traffic violation could constitute you being questioned by ICE

if you haven't done anything and you are a legal citizen and you get pulled over or questioned by ICE they are more than likely racially profiling you

ice looks like normal cops but they will have the words "ICE" on the back of them

please everyone remember your rights. if you are an immigrant, keep your documents in a safe place that you and you and your family know, you do not have to disclose your immigration status to ICE. If you have your documents with you and ICE stops you then show them but other than that keep them in a safe place. If ICE does stop you and you do not have your documents they do not have the rights to search you, remain silent, do not give them information that they could use against you, just say "I am choosing to remain silent" and if you are legal in the U.S. you have the right to a government attorney if you do not have one. If you are undocumented you also have the right to remain silent, say "I am choosing to remain silent" don't give them anything. you have the right to find a lawyer on your own but one will not be provided for you and you will have to pay for your own lawyer.

remember: remain calm, remain silent, remain informed.

I'll be honest I haven't seen a lot of the official coverage over it so idk what tone was taken when conveying this info on news sites (I kinda can't stand waiting for videos of people taking forever to get to the point. they can't talk faster than I can read)

but I don't really get how either one of these possibilities is less fucked up than the other - they're both AWFUL

like either La-fucking-Migra is now going after children WHILE THEY'RE AT SCHOOL (as if targeting kids for deportation would EVER be excusable even if we didn't know they have a really REALLY bad habit of losing track of kids in their custody) or Secret Service is getting used like a mobster's minor minions to threaten anyone complaining about how they don't like it when the mob takes over their neighborhood

like.....its kind of a big deal if it was in fact Secret Service, this is NOT a government entity that's supposed to be used like club on random citizens. They as a law enforcement agency exist to protect elected officials and their families + other government employees - basically they're official government bodyguards. Which is fine, that is something governments need and its also good to have the same one serve all presidents rather than the agency changing leadership/organization styles every time someone new gets elected

But this?? having Secret Service members go looking for a singular individual, regardless of age, demographic, citizenship status, etc, specifically because they criticized the president publicly? THIS is a massive massive warning sign - not only is it a pretty egregious violation of free speech but its a massive overreaching of the the president's privileges and I am disgusted and grievously disappointed the agents in question didn't refuse to carry these orders out.

The original story reported by Chicago Public Schools, that ICE showed up at an elementary school where the student body was 90% Latino students, would've been alarming enough, because "baby jails" ain't going away. The real story--or, if you're conspiracy minded, the "official" story--is somehow even worse. Block Club Chicago checking in:

U.S. Secret Service agents – not Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents — arrived at a CPS elementary school in Back of the Yards Friday but were turned away by school administrators, officials said. Chicago Public Schools officials initially reported that ICE agents were turned away at Hamline Elementary School, 1548 W. 48th St., Friday morning. A spokesman for Immigration and Customs Enforcement denied the agency visited the school Friday afternoon, according to the Sun-Times. It was actually U.S. Secret Service agents who visited the school, a CPS source said and ABC7 Chicago reported. Federal agents arrived at the school as they were searching for an 11-year-old who posted an anti-Trump video, according to a CPS source. Agents had visited a home and were told the person was a student at Hamline, the source said. The principal said school administrators followed protocols and did not allow the agents inside the school. In an interview with MSNBC, CPS CEO Pedro Martinez said the officers presented credentials to school leaders and identified themselves as ICE.[..] Earlier this week, Chicago Public Schools said it would not allow ICE agents access to schools and facilities “unless they produce a criminal judicial warrant signed by a federal judge,” as outlined in its policies. School officials won’t allow ICE agents access based on administrative warrants, ICE detainers, "or other document issued by an agency enforcing civil immigration law,” officials said.
