you know on the one hand. I think the projects on @addons that I work on are rather beautiful, that they're full of elegant solutions to interesting problems that I take pride in my contributions to, and I've obviously spent an objectively excessive amount of time on them. which are all things that contribute to them feeling rather substantial to me.
but on the other hand I do occasionally find myself explaining to someone who isn't an xkit user what I spent five hours working on on whatever day it is, and it's always like, well, you know, it does stuff like, uh, it can put an icon next to people's usernames when you follow each other? and, and such. and when I put it that way it sounds like the kind of thing one would code in an afternoon? you know?
(of course it's not actually hard to reconcile these things; I know that we spent the better part of an afternoon figuring out how to make those icons align flawlessly at any zoom and font size in both the post header and blog card modal, and another one making them have tooltips when you mouse over them and ensuring that the tooltips localize into your tumblr UI language. xkit rewritten is kind of like "okay but what if instead of making it like an afternoon hobby project you did it like it was made by the best web developers in the world." turns out that's not that hard when the project owner is in that category and the other dev will spend four hours per PR to kinda look like they are.
also I guess we do pull data out of react internals. that is a pretty significant thing that we do. like I understand where I'm coming from here but we very much do pull data out of react internals. go code that in an afternoon I dare you. disclaimer I can't take any credit for that bit; maybe I'd have figured it out in three years, idk—I don't think it'd have occurred to me to try, is the thing. anyway I did do a fair bit of hooking up to make it faster so that's a thing I guess.)

When did you first start writing?
Have you ever written a canon muse that you first thought of ā€˜meh’ when they appeared in their canon show/movie/book?
What is your favorite fandom in which you write?
Do you plot a ship or see where it goes?
What new addition would make your Tumblr experience so much better?
Tumblr media
Questions for the mun. (ACCEPTING)
first answered in previous ask!
Have you ever written a canon muse that you first thought of ā€˜meh’ when they appeared in their canon show/movie/book?
Tumblr media
Nope, if I don't have interest on the character I also tend not to pick up any interest in writing them lol but uh I haven't always started writing faves but with no exception the muse becomes my fave in the end KFKFLFLG ......like uhhhh eiden good example but granted I think the game itself also just kept making him more and more interesting! I did like him from the start though, so honestly he might have became the fave regardless kflglf
What is your favorite fandom in which you write?
Tumblr media
i only write here lmao idk??
Do you plot a ship or see where it goes?
Tumblr media
Plotting from time to time I do like but i think I do have to have some interaction with the muses before starting... MINUS CANON stuff bc then there's like already basis and feelings to build fromm. But there I also like both plotting and seeing where it goes!
What new addition would make your Tumblr experience so much better?
Tumblr media
GIVE ME OUTBOX BACK CMON TUMBLR ...or i guess that was always xkit addition wasn't it.... also uh new editor is weird it has stuff I like too but like also doesn't work as nice as I'd like it. Mobile tumblr has really shitting copy-paste thing but apparently so does web tumblr with bullet points lmao i had to copypaste and remove the bullets to be able to copy the questions I can understand there probably are reasons for these issues and reasons why they are like that but it's still frustrating... the old one worked just fine !

Put the icons back!!!
Does anyone know of an extension or something that I can install to put icons back to the left of posts? I've been getting a ton of updates at once and it's really stressing me out (forced new dash, beta post editor is dead, and now this). It seems so benign, but it's really fucking with my ability to scroll through my dash and tell who posted what.
I already have a dashboard unfucker via Stylus & still have a shitton of XKit stuff enabled (Idk what even works anymore or not I just don't touch it & it does its best) but I haven't seen any work-arounds for the icons yet.

HEY IDK IF THIS IS THE CORRECT PLACE TO ASK
but do you have any advice for starting an RP blog on tumblr, I've never done it before and I don't really know WHAT to do, I've replayed on twitter, Instagram, etc, but idk if its different on tumblr. LOTS OF LOVE and thank you if you do answer this or just thanks in general if you dont cause I still like your art
Hi! I'm not sure how helpful I'll be considering I'm usually just winging it when I do rp.
I usually do a lot of ic-blogs. that means my character runs their social media account type roleplaying. But most people prefer para rp! I'm not sure what Twitter rp is like, but Tumblr let's you post more!
I recommend getting Xkit Rewritten so you can trim posts. You don't need icons / face claims, but if you want them you can use them.
I can't really give help on how to find rp communities cause I mostly start by writing with friends publicly and seeing who gets interested!
the biggest advice I can give is always to read the tags, because it might have useful stuff, like not reblogging other people's rp posts if they're not for you. I also heavily suggest having your rules and about for your blog linked in a pinned post!!! People put their rules and stuff in Google docs now, but even just making a post and linking to it works too.
Not sure how helpful this is but I hope you have fun writing!!! šŸ’• You'll mess up plenty and feel like a fool but that's growing pains for ya!

tag game
i was tagged by @gimme-a-chocolate and @what-breaks-my-heart thank you!
1. Why did you choose your url?
i think i talked about this before but it’s very simple. i wanted to make a blog for my kdrama/kpop stuff hence korean and i was listening to imagine dragons while making the blog so i was like hey, dragons are common in asian mythology so that’s perfect
2. Any sideblogs?
this one is a sideblog, i have a mainĀ @pinenuttrekkie and one for the tales of arcadia series @eclipseisminetocommand i have one more that i made with a friend of mine for sharing movie/animation gifs but then it never amounted to anything so it’s inactive. i should deactivate it
3. How long have you been on Tumblr?
latter half of 2015, i was a bit late to the party because i was convinced tumblr was just full of emo scene kids and depressive quotes over black and white pictures but then i joined because i was in love with chris pine and i wanted to look at pictures of him. and now i’m stuck here, thank you mr. pine. oh btw that’s why my online name is pine :)
4. Do you have a queue tag?
i do but only if i’m on desktop because xkit does the work for me. it’sĀ ā€œhey mtv welcome to my queueā€ after the catchphrase from mtv’s cribs
5. Why did you start your blog in the first place?
for my main blog as i said, me and my friend had a huge crush on the actor chris pine and she kept sending me tumblr links to posts about him so i was like okay maybe i should sign up so i can look up pictures of him myself.Ā
for this one i think it’s obvious, i didn’t want to pile all my kdrama/kpop shit on my mainblog so i just made this
6. Why did you choose your avatar?
i change my avatar depending on what i’m into at that point in time, right now it’s seo in guk in days because i’m watching that drama, maybe next month it’ll be something different
7. Why did you choose your header?
i made the header myself, it’s also an edit of days. i try to match my layout so if i change my icon i’ll probably change my header too
8. What’s your post with the most notes?
for my main blog it’s this over the garden wall post with over 62k notes and it resurfaces every autumn
for this blog however it’s this cloy gifset that i still get notes for. i guess people were really traumatized. it’s actually amazing how many notes this has considering how shit it is.
9. How many mutuals do you have?
idk? is there a way to check? i have lots of mutuals.
11. How many blogs do you follow?
792
12. Have you ever made a shitpost?
that’s all i ever post
14. Did you have a fight/argument with another blog once?
yeah someone decided to send me anon hate on my main blog and i argued with them for a few minutes until i just turned off the anonymous ask function which shut them up
16. Do you like tag games?
i do like them, makes me feel loved. i always procrastinate doing them tho (like now) because i hate tagging people, i feel like i’m bothering them
17. Do you like ask games?
yea actually but i barely get any if i reblog one of those posts lmao
18. Which of your mutuals do you think is Tumblr famous?
i don’t think any of my mutuals areĀ ā€œtumblr famousā€ but i do know that some of them are rather popular in their communities
19. Do you have a crush on a mutual?
no
20. Tags?
@kimsunho @starfire-s @songjoongkiss @ohcoolnice @dionideatta @ranjish-hi-sahih @belsmultifandommess yeah i’ll stop here

maybe i’m using my tumblr old people voice right now but i just wanted to say that i know gif makers talk a lot about reblogging content and no one reblogging stuff anymore. but i don’t thinkt he problem is that no one is reblogging so much as it is that no one is seeing new stuff. we follow who we follow, rarely find new people to follow unless they show up on our dashes, follow source blogs or daily blogs to keep content to what we like, etc. but the reality is, the best thing you can do to help content creators is track edits tags. idk if everyone does this or what but i track the ____Edit tag for any fandom i’m in. I check it every day sometimes more than once a day and when no gif makers show up making things, i see it. usually i follow them, reblog stuff i like, etc. it’s a really good way to see who is making what and find new creators and make sure you see stuff made by creators you love if you happen to not be online when you post it.Ā
tumblr made the tracking tags feature annoying with all their changes but i HEAVILY encourage you to use the xkit extension that puts your tracked tags on your sidebar like they used to be in olden days like so:
Tumblr media
that way when there are new posts in your tags, you’ll see them!!! I get sometimes it’s a lot. if you’re in a big fandom i recommend nanrrowing it down and only following the shipedit or characteredit tag you like. but like ... try guys. the only way we’re going to get the culture of reblogging content back and encouraging content creators is to put in the effort to see their work, follow them, reblog their stuff, etc and we can talk about how no one reblogs anymore until we’re blue in the face but it’s an echo chamber and the reality is we have to put in the work.Ā

What was your first impression of the roleplay community on Tumblr? And what’s your impression of it now?
Mun’s Asks: RP Edition
Tumblr media
1.) What was your first impression of the roleplay community on Tumblr? And what’s your impression of it now?
[OOF STRAP IN INTREPID]
I’ve been on this hellsite since the beginning but I really only started RPing here after a few years.Ā  Probably in 2012 or 2013? I can’t remember exactly when but I remember being very intimidated by the idea of RP on this platform in particular. There is a bit of a steep learning curve in terms of etiquette here that is even steeper when you factor in the near requirement for tumblr-literacy. Ā Like you basically need xkit to RP and you need to understand what kinds of asks get eaten and when/how cuts work and what behaviors do and don’t cause notifications and how ask posts work and how the block/blacklist features do and dont work and what tags tumblr will and wont index etc etc. Ā When you’re a tumblr old head it’s easy to forget newcomers don’t immediately know things like that. It’s part of the reason why I tend to be very basic in my approach compared to what is popular at the moment. I was one of those fabled newcomers at one point.
I don’t really think that tumblr RPC is any better or worse now than it was back then, just different. A lot of what’s popular now was a thing back then, but now it’s more commonplace in a much smaller population of RPers. I wouldn’t say that the RPC has many new problems as much as I would say the old problems have intensified.
When I started out I was in a fandom that was very cliquey and made me feel like shit a lot and those spaces probably still exist on tumblr but the difference is I know what my boundaries are and what behaviors I will and wont tolerate on my dash. Ā Overall the RPC is much better at talking about things like that than it used to be imo. That same fandom I just shit on was also a lot of fun and taught me that it was okay to not take RP too seriously and not be too worried about if it looks pretty enough or was fancy enough. I’m really grateful for people who would RP with me back then even though I unknowingly broke a lot of tumblr RPC’s unwritten rules. Ā
That’s why it’s very important to me as a seasoned RPer to be as approachable a blog as I can possibly be. In this the lords year of 2020 I still feel myself being set in my ways and avoiding trends that are ultimately harmless, but there is an extent to which I have to participate in order to be courteous to others so I do my best to be open minded about Neo RPC Trends. I end up being of two minds just about everything that’s popular right now.Ā
Take for example reblog karma / I AM NOT A MEME SOURCE type rules. I think that’s shits dumb, you guys can reblog anything you want from me, in fact reblogging it from me heightens the chances of me sending you one whether you sent me one or not. I’m not gonna get mad at you for using the website as it is intended by the devs to be used, but also if somebody else’s rules say it bugs them to have memes rbed from them, then I think their feelings are more important than my opinion on the matter. People are more important to me than policies in cases like these, so of course I’ll reblog the meme from the source instead of you or w/e.Ā Ā
But at the same time, that idea about feelings also includes the feelings of people who are new to RP and maybe don’t even know the etiquette well enough to know they’re messing up.Ā  There’s a lot to get mad about in the current state of tumblr RP but even when I agree that I want this particular tedium done, I don’t really agree with the idea that I should make it a rule that forces other people to stay away from me. Yes I dont want to be ponging an ask post back and forth. Yes I want our posts cut.Ā  But also, I wont get mad if you rb an ask instead of putting it in a new post. I’ll just put in a new post myself. I wont get mad if you dont cut a post, I’ll just cut it myself. It’s not hard to do.
Take also graphics, banners, and all manner of fancy formatting. RPC has really really leaned into that a lot more than back in 2013. On the one hand, I think that’s great. People are so creative. Their stuff looks so pretty, and I really like the work people put in. I don’t think it’s a bad thing necessarily, but on the other hand it does heighten that already steep barrier for entry imo, especially in circles that require it and judge based upon it. For me it’s more important to avoid looking like that’s an expectation of mine. Like, I can do that stuff. I do sometimes, actually. I make icons in batches of hundreds, I take commissions for RP graphics, don’t tell anybody. I’m a freelance illustrator and I know my way around the adobe creative suite-- I CAN make these things and I do for other people, but I can’t be called to do it for myself in most cases. When I see a blog with very nice graphics I immediately assume they don’t care to interact with me. In fact I still tend to unfairly think this even when they’ve shown me otherwise.Ā If we don’t have a long term rapport and you’re a blog with nice graphics and I reply to your posts, what you’re seeing is a neurotic prey animal that is afraid of you signaling alarm.Ā  For whatever reason I tend to interpret very fancy looking blogs as confident and happy in their own existing bubbles with no particular interest in newcomers. I know that’s not always a fair assumption to make--it’s a problem with me that I need to work on--but also I know other people deal with similar feelings. That’s why I don’t feel particularly called to make much beyond the most basic of graphics most of the time and I’m highly avoidant of anybody who seems like graphics are a requirement for interactions with them. Not everybody has photoshop. Not everybody is skilled at that sort of thing. I don’t want people to think that I will judge their style based on what my own style looks like, so I don’t invest much in it. Again, there’s nothing wrong with graphics, but it’s more important to me than anything else that I am approachable and I make other people on the dash as comfortable as I can. I’m glad that it seems like a requirement for cohesive graphics has waned over the last few years.
But, yea. I’d say this duality--the ā€œthis is cool but also I have reasons I feel I shouldn’t participateā€--is how I feel about pretty much everything that’s big right now.Ā  And like don’t even get me started on the anxiety RPC has around things like soft blocking and mutuals and multiples and ā€œqualityā€. These things in particular aren’t that new, but a lot of Neo RPC etiquette and trends surrounding those types of anxieties represent a whole quagmire that I try to avoid as much as I can, often to a fault, and lately I’ve realized that in my blanket avoidance I am actually missing out on some things I really should consider doing. My icons could do with some light color retouching. I do want to get my tags together eventually. Permanent starter calls, interests checkers, banners to make asks more easily rebloggable-- these things are functional and can be fun and make RP easier and help people feel emboldened to approach. Like, there are a lot of newish things that are actually cool and I should maybe consider trying them out, but being an oldster has really made me slow to adapt.
So yeah, idk if that was clear at all lol. Take these many, many unnecessary words to say that again, I don’t necessarily think that the current RPC is better or worse in an objective sense, but I do think a lot of the anxieties and trends that were starting in the old RPC have really caught fire now in a way that makes them hard to abstain from even if you want to. Since the RPC is so much smaller now than it was in 2013, you really do have to play ball on these things more than you used to have to in order to find partners. There is a lot of etiquette and anxiety that goes unspoken in the RPC and so I often avoid fairly harmless RPC trends as a means of mitigating that anxiety and clarifying the unspoken as much as I can. Tumblr already has a barrier for entry by being a broken website that hates its rp users, I don’t need to pile on any extra factors to make that barrier to entry look any taller.

Also, I am mystified about the Maribat flooding as well. When I last checked the Damian Wayne tagged works, it seemed there was at least one Maribat fic being updated or posted every single day. IDK how they could connect Batman to ML esp Damian to Marinette. Even the fact that they’re both superheroes doesn’t make the gap they had to connect any less wider, for me
I found the mixed bag of responses amusing. Ā Some people were likeĀ ā€œISN’T IT GREAT!!ā€ while others held myĀ ā€˜what the hell is happening??’ opinion. Ā
Personally, I have Marinette’s name blacklisted on my xkit so I don’t have to see any of it. Ā I just wish there was a way to make ao3 know when I click on theĀ ā€˜Tim Drake’ tag from my homepage that I don’t want to see certain ships and stuff with it. Ā That would be really awesome, because maribat is often half the front page results and it can be frustrating, especially since you can’t just excludeĀ ā€˜crossovers’ in this fandom, being how most batman fics are in several fandom tags on ao3. Ā Instead I take a minute or two to go down my list of things I want to exclude and THEN I can finally look through the results. Ā šŸ˜‚
I’ve never seen an episode of Miraculous Ladybug so I can’t really comment on whether they go well together. Ā I have seen some summaries though, and it seems kind of... I don’t know, weird? That people are having her like drop everything and move across the ocean to live in Gotham to be near Damian when like.... she’s a superhero? And her life is important too? Ā
I dunno. Ā People can ship it if they want. Ā Ship and let ship and all that. Ā I’ll keep reading angry 10-year-old baby Damian fics and be happy regardless. Ā

Here's what I missed on ! Tumblr !
It's pretty weird to return to this site after so long. (I'm not exactly a "Twitter refugee" as they seem to be called lmao, more like someone who, because of the whole Twitter stuff, realised that there are still people on Tumblr? And apparently the site stopped their weird filtering/post banning system bc they now allow porn again? Anyway,) I don't remember when I was last active on Tumblr because I deleted my old blog some years ago, but if I had to guess I was probably active from around 2013 to 2015/16 at the latest? And boy, there's so much new stuff...
Firstly, the quality and functionality of themes seems much higher? Maybe that's just because I'm older now, but there are just so many original and innovative themes and pages that, like, are so interactive?? And such a broad variety as well!!!
Adding on to that: Javascript is sort of forbidden?? The work-around is pretty fast and easy (just ask support for permission basically), but still, that sucks lol.
Then there's the whole "you can have an account but no actual blog"-thing?? Idk if I really like that. A lot of people seem to use the site like that, so it's apparently at least somewhat popular. But as a Tumblr-conservative (as in conservative about Tumblr, not a conservative on Tumblr) I must say that having a blog and customizing it was sort of the whole Unique Selling Point of the site, so... interesting choice. (As long as that's still possible I'm still happy either way, I think)
The whole Dashboard experience in general is just so different now. For one, there are ads? I'm not a fan of ads (shocking opinion, I know) and I'm sure had they done it right Tumblr could have become like Ao3 and not even needed them. Still, I don't mind them too much (haha certainly not bc I use adblock :) idk what that is, sounds very morally wrong to me) and I read somewhere that the premium version is only 40€/year, which isn't a lot a lot, but still unfortunate.
I can't even tell which features are new and which aren't most of the time (except for the replying to posts? and THE CHAT?? now that there is one I can't help but wonder why there wasn't one from the start?). I think there's a lot of stuff Tumblr implemented that used to only be possible through xkit before.
Speaking of which: xkit! There's a new version - xkit rewritten - and it's incredible. I didn't even think about re-installing xkit until I stumbled upon a post that mentioned it. Now that I am aware of its existence again, god have I missed it. Being properly on Tumblr without it just isn't the same, man...
Pretty sure the search and follow tags/trending/etcetc stuff is completely revamped as well, but I don't think I used that very often back then anyway. Once I followed a big chunk of blogs I just found new ones through snowballing.
The last thing I can think of that noticably threw me off was the slang? Like wtf is a blorbo? (I actually think I get that one now) What are those other scrinkly, scrumblo, beedy weeby words? Why do I feel several generations older all of a sudden? I can feel the immediate and visceral impulse of disgruntled rejection welling up inside me everytime I see people use any new slang word (or meme, looking at you old scorsese movie that doesn't exist) whose invention I wasn't there for. (please if you've been (back) here for a while, feel free to educate me on the new tumblr etiquette, memes and slang words, I'm curious, I wanna know)
Though that being said, the overall vibes have not changed much. It is still a site that embraces its nerdy lameness and unnecessarily deep deep-dives into ANYTHING. And after the last few months to years of seeing people attacking anyone and anything, and feeling angry/depressed every time I spent some time on my social media site of choice, I think this is a very nice change of pace.

hey question how do you,,,, get more followers
HOO BOY!!! i have a lot of followers i guess idk it’s kinda surreal?? is 2k a large enough number am i a bnf or… kjdsfksjhdf i’m a decent sized fan at best.Ā
1. get involved!! participate in events and networks!!! those will give you a boost and help get ur name out there
2. don’t be scared to talk to people!! we don’t bite at all.
3. make your url something centric to what your blog is about. hence, i have the url cupidlance bc i’m in voltron. try not to have a dashes or numbers IF you can avoid it. canon urls are hard to find these days (though i have some!!) but if you find an unused one go ahead and message them and see if they’ll give it to you!
4. make ur icon also centric to what your blog is mostly about :^)
5. have a clean and easy to use theme!! i highkey recc using themes from @felinum @yukoki @glenthemes @angelicxi @espoirthemes @saturnthms @sheathemes @baechys or just really anyone from @theme-hunter or @codinghaven!!
6. likewise, make your mobile theme just as simple. no impossible to read color combos if you can avoid it.
7. learn to tag!!! make sure you keep your tags on original posts relevant to what the post is about. only tag the characters and ships mentioned. if you cross tag not only will i come and slap u but you’ll probably get blocked by other users. nobody is going to reblog your stuff if you cross tag, so don’t do it!
8. learn to tag pt. 2!! only the first 5 tags will turn up in people who follow that tag, so keep the most relevant/popular tags in the front
9. learn to tag pt3!!! use network tags if you can. @vld-networks, @positivevoltron, and @vlddaily are some examples of networks who track tags to rb from them, so keep that in mind <3
10. post like… all the time. reblogging and providing content for your followers only gets you so far. original posts, even if it’s just the silliest of head canons or a playlist or moodboard, will do a lot to help you gain more followers!! i try to make something original every day (or work on my original fics every day and yes… i am an author im just bad at updating please send encouragement bc i think i suck as a writer ;w;)
11. be nice!! be nice all the time!! never stop being nice!!! people who gossip about other bloggers and vague constantly will never go far. the constant negativity will drive everyone away. i do vent from time to time, but i try to sequester it off to a private blog if i think i’m getting too far, and i always tag my stuff. also i never vent about ANYONE online in a place where they can see it or where followers/friends of them can see. in general i dont really vent about any bloggers. if i have a problem with something i might ask them to tag it (and that’s if i can’t ignore it) or will just unfollow if it’s that bad
12. don’t… spam people… which is something i struggle with a lot. kjdshfkjhsad fim so sorry i just… reblog everything i see
13. (this isn’t really gonna help u make followers but is will make ur life on tumblr a HELL of a lot easier) GET XKIT!!!! get fuckign xkit RIGHT NOW and download xinbox, activity+, tag viewer, post blocker, all that good shit.
14. most importantly, make friends!! ik this is super hard, i was too scared to talk to anyone at first, but if you have some friends it won’t matter how big or small you are. it’s just fun!! the best way to do this is to join a discord!!
15. don’t be scared to ask for a boost!! especially from me <3 i’ve been a 20 follower nobody before too, so i’m more than happy to give blogs a shout out!!
alrighty then, i hope this helps!! <33

i used to have tumblr savior, but it wasn’t working for everything i wanted, especially not the way xkit would :( but honestly reinstalling that might be better than unfollowing ppl anyway, so thanks for reminding me of it ^_^

Your mental health is more important. I never understood why an unfollow was so offensive anyway.
thanks for that <3 and yeahh agreed. i mostly just see mutuals as friends i guess, so it feels weird to unfollow one D: (I don’t actually know who is posting anti-ragnar/k stuff though since I try to not look at it lol, so maybe it’s not any mutual)

I wanna rp buut idk how
Well, the fact that you are sending this to me on a RP account seems to contradict you not knowing how to RP. But here is some general advice!
Pick (or create) a character you absolutely adore from a fandom you love! You are going to spend a lot of time with this character and with the fandom you are trying to roleplay in. If you don’t absolutely adore your character nor the source material, it will likely drive you nuts, and you’ll lose your motivation and muse. If you’re starting out I would recommend having a single blog for a single character. Multimuse should probably be something to consider maybe down the line. Either OC or canon character is fine. Just know that generally speaking, OCs have a harder time finding people to interact with.
Research and learn as much as you can about your character and your character’s world. For a universe as massive as Doctor Who, you don’t need to know everything, but at least have a general feel for your character and everything your character would know. Doing some research can really flesh out your character and their world. It doesn’t have to be too intensive, it can be just the basics to get a general gist. (I mean… I’m not in the military, nor is any of my family, but I’ve done enough research to have a general feel for the Army life. I’m not perfect, and I do sometimes look up the semantics of things, but it’s not like roleplaying is a quiz. People will forgive you for messing up every once in a while, so long as you’re trying.) Even if you haven’t consumed all media your character is in, at least be aware that it exists, and be ready to be able to pull from it if you need to. (Personally, a lot of why I keep an About and timeline page is so that I remember everything going on with this blog. It just happens to benefit my partners as well)
Learn the features of your platform and figure out how you want to organize yourself on said platform. Not all platforms work for all people. Personally, I can’t stand roleplaying on forum websites. I don’t like pinging. I don’t like scrolling through massive backlogs of stuff just to get to my thread. I don’t understand how to operate forums well, and so I hate RPing on them. I do however actually like Tumblr’s interface, though it does take some getting used to. Figure out how you want to use drafts (some people use them to save ask memes and threads they like as well as threads they’re working on), likes (I personally use likes to save ALL THE ASK MEMES! It probably drives people nuts but it’s just what I like to do) and the other features on here. I would recommend getting XKit. It is really freaking helpful for roleplaying on here. You don’t 100% need it, but it is certainly helpful.
Be organized! Not 100% necessary, but it helps people if they can easily find the information they need. Most RP blogs have at least a Rules and About page for a reason. Not everyone has, nor does everyone need a headcanon, relationship, taglist, or whatever page. However an About page is necessary so that a person knows how to proceed with your character, and a rule page is helpful for others understanding what your constraints and limits are. (Personally, I write my rules page for other people’s benefit, and not my own, I personally don’t care if people read my rules, but they are there so people will know my stance on ask memes, threading from asks, NSFW, OCs, multimuses, and whatnot.)
Don’t be afraid to reach out to others for interactions. I’m terrible at doing this for myself, but most people are more than happy to try interacting with your character. So don’t be afraid to put yourself out there if you have ideas for interaction! Honestly, I would say that you should try interacting with as many people as you can have ideas for. The more the merrier, and some characters may surprise you with their chemistry with yours! (Personally, I never would have guessed that Captain Mike Yates, an earthbound military hippy would have a surprising amount of chemistry with C’rizz, the bipedal talking chameleon assassin from another dimension. And yet it happened!)
Make friends with the people you’re interacting with. Even if you don’t really have ideas for interacting with a person, it is definitely a good start if you can become friends with other roleplayers. If you become friends with your fellow roleplayers, you always have someone you can rely on to send you stuff for ask meme prompts, to send you kind words of encouragement, and to come up with random tidbits, facts, and ideas. If you are friends with someone, they can always come to you with a completely off the wall idea for an interaction that could lead to somewhere fun for both characters! (just last week the mun of @human-and-zygon (lovely mun of a fantastic Osgood by the by, shout out) told me that Tom Osgood and my character opened a tea shop together. This has led to a lot of fun, silly ideas and a whole new chapter of my character’s life. If we weren’t friends already, that may not have come up, which would be sad. D: )
Choose ask memes and make open starters that ANYONE can get in on! For me personally, one of my favorite ways to introduce myself is through ask memes. They can feel less personal, as you don’t have to introduce yourself and pitch your ideas to the other person, and the other person has no obligation to respond to it if they don’t have any ideas. They are low-stakes, but can be a lot of fun. Open starters are also a common way that people try to rope in new people, but can be intimidating if they aren’t geared towards people introducing themselves to one another. So try to figure out clever ways for characters to introduce one another without a direct, ā€œHello, my name is XYZ, what’s yours?ā€ Additionally, a lot of ask memes are geared towards the characters already knowing one another. So maybe find a few where the two people can be strangers.
Being consistent... This is the thing that I am literally worst at. As with anything, the more you do it, the better you get. And the more people can rely on you to answer their responses in a timely manner, the more people will like and want to interact with you. I am horrible at this. I am terrible at this. Don’t be me. I take literal years to get back to you. I am terrible. Be better than me. Be consistent. Post frequently. Have a quick turnaround. I’m sorry, everyone.
Don’t forget to relax and have some fun! This is a hobby after all. No one ever made a living off of Tumblr roleplaying... At least... I’ve never heard of anyone doing that before... If you need a break, take it. If you need time to yourself, do it. If you need to delete your blog, you should. This is all in good fun, so don’t forget to do all the stupid things along the way. You don’t need to take everything seriously. Just do what you like and enjoy yourself, and hopefully you can make a few friends along the way.
But most importantly, DO IT! If you want to roleplay, the most important thing that you need to do is to simply roleplay. Sure you may not be good, but if you keep doing it, then you will get better. You don’t have fancy fonts? You don’t have icons? You don’t know how to program a blog? Doesn’t matter. Those are all extra frivolous things. Are you roleplaying? Yes? Then congrats, you are a roleplayer. So long as you are putting your ideas and character to paper (or internet in this case) and having another person respond, you are a roleplayer. This is how you roleplay. By doing. In the end, roleplaying is an action. You are either doing it or not. You can do it poorly, and you can do it well. You can do it quickly and you can do it at a snail’s pace, but so long as you are doing it, you are roleplaying. Everything above helps you be better at it, and can make things easier for you and your partner, but none of it matters so long as you are doing it. The methods may change and differ, but in the end so long as you have a character that is interacting with another, written by another person, that is roleplay. Just... DO IT!
If you follow even half of these, trust me, you will not just be a RPer, but a great one. I have rambled a lot, and I am probably a bit tipsy. So go fourth! And roleplay!

Hi! Do you have any tips for people who are starting their Simblr? Because I just post updates on my current household and idk if that's interesting haha
Tumblr media
1. Tagging things.
Tag posts that aren’t sims with notsimsĀ or nonsims. These are commonly used tags.
Tag posts that your followers may not want to see (such as aĀ ā€˜shitpost’, a random text post, or otherwise) with saviorhide/saviourhide. This is a very common tag which tons and tons of people use so their followers can block it if need be.
Tag all your stuff with sim-related tags! People doĀ go through the ts4legacyĀ or sims4gameplayĀ tag, even if you don’t. There’s no shame in putting tons and tons of tags. It can help you get attention. For huge amounts of tags, I recommend the Xkit extension. It has a Mass Tagging tool which is very useful for when you have groups of tags you use very often.
Do not tag your gameplay as ts4mm, sims4mm, or any variations. These tags are reserved for custom content only, and it is a HUGE pet peeve of many when this tag is swamped with gameplay pictures. Don’t be that guy.
2. Interacting.
Don’t be afraid to interact with other simmers, whether it be replying to some of their posts or sending friendly asks their way. Every little gesture counts.
Do not send hate. This should be self-explanatory. Don’t be a jerk, it doesn’t act in your favor.
When other simmers reblogs ask games, participate! They willĀ notice and appreciate you taking time to send them in.
Message people. 90% of the time, the simmers you think are cool beyond all reason think they’re just as much of a loser as everyone else, so hey! Chat them up. Talk about your favorite cc, the weather, or better yet: puppies. Don’t worry if you don’t chat all the time, everyone has lives outside of tumblr! Well, maybe not me, but… AHEM.
Stay out of drama as best you can. It usually ends badly. There areĀ exceptions to this, of course! I just try my very best to stay on the sidelines for all of it, and hey, guess who hasn’t gotten any anon hate yet? This nerd.
3. Posts-wise.
Make your screenies pretty! Photoshop actions are your friend. If you don’t have photoshop, then, well… I heard somewhere that some simmers (early-grape) can hook you up. Some of my favorite photoshop actions are this, this, this, and this!
Choose your typing style.Ā Some simmers type in perfect grammar while captioning (like yours truly) and some go for a more carefree style, like our bratmom @bratsims. Whichever you like, whichever you choose, both can be made to work well!
Queue queue queue queue queue.Ā The queue is your best friend. It spaces out a certain number of posts during a certain time interval every day. This way when your queue is at 50 and you only post 5 per day, you have ten days to not work on screenshots!Ā
4.Ā In general.
Do your own thing!Ā Don’t let others tell you what you can and can’t do. Do what you enjoy and don’t feel pressured to change it for your followers.
There is always room for improvement.Ā Change things around, improve things, try something new. There’s no way to go but up!

Plus I think the characters are neat! -Stardew Valley! -Architecture and houses! Idk why but I love looking at that stuff - Or just reblog if you post about other stuff that you think I might enjoy! I’m up for anything! Also don’t hesitate to message me! I might be a bit slow to reply due to school and full-time work but I’d love to make some new friends :D EDIT: OH!
