What’s your favourite thing about shuggy cross guild and mishanks? Why you ship them?

what i like most about those ships is BUGGY i love teasing and tormenting and driving that clown up the wall! I guess i get the most out of it with Shanks because of their past and unresolved tensions hahah... also i love making myself feel bad over fictional characters and they give me that good pain! They make me laugh but also grind my teeth in agony...

As for cross guild, well, it was the thing that motivated me to pick up op again (i was stuck at fishman island for a few years), i needed to see what the fuck was that combination of characters teaming up all about!? And what do u kno...it was about tormenting Buggy...which i love to see... and also about giving him the spotlight he deserves (even if it was the result of failing upwards one too many times but i believe in his odd charisma) and the means to chase his dreams again! I really just like Buggy ok!! Cross guild is hilarious as a very dysfunctional polycule - but really, while Buggy is their punching bag (the violence is very much played for laughs and i genuinely feel bad for him but as i said i like pain) he also stood up for what he believed in when it mattered and challenged croc and hawk's pessimistic/realistic outlook on what it means to be a pirate.

for the record I can't say i actively ship mishanks really, honestly i didn't care about them as characters enough (i swear i care about them a little bit more now) for me to get invested in their relationship. Although i can see them having this fling in their youth which Shanks fumbled too but unlike Buggy, Mihawk has standards and, as my friend put it, deserves someone who owns more than two pairs of pants. Which brings me to crochawk which you did not ask about but i just want to elaborate on that too. At first i didn't pay their dynamic too much attention because of my lack of interest in Mihawk (again, sorry) but slowly warmed up to it, they both have a distrust in others and i think they'd be very good at giving each other the personal space they need while also being fucking weird about forming a genuine bond because idk if they have ever had a normal and balanced relationship in their life (i also ship dofuwani so yeah let's just throw one more ex to the mix).

Man, I totally agree with you on the Jimbei thing. Him and Arlong have a super interesting relationship that's really tragic when you stop and think about it for a minute.

Especially in the anime, you can tell Arlong really liked/respected Jimbei, even though Jimbei never really seems to be that nice to him. I mean he was super happy to see him and listened to him when he was bullying Jimbei's subordinate. He only starts bickering with him after Jimbei insults him. Jimbei kind of treats him like an annoying little brother.

And after Jimbei beats Arlong up you can tell he feels conflicted about it, both because he knows Arlong's probably going to cause problems and also because he probably feels like he failed to keep him around.

Like idk, I wonder if things would have turned out different if Jimbei hadn't reacted so badly to what Arlong said. Like clearly he's hurt by what Arlong says too--Jimbei doesn't like being a Warord either, and Arlong is essentially saying Jimbei doesn't care about Fisher Tiger. He's hurt Arlong wants to leave. But he's the captain and essentially his older brother (i mean he probably helped raise Arlong given the 5 year age difference). It was his job to keep cool and try and talk things out. Maybe it wouldn't have changed anything, but Jimbei's reaction was still wrong.

Idk, their relationship, even as little as we get kinda makes me go feral if I think about it to much because omg its so fucking sad.

This is why I need Arlong to pop up again, even just a fuckin cover to show us where they are like Oda did for Kuro. I wanna see Arlong lose his shit that Jimbei is with Luffy and Nami and all the little straw hats that everyone is no doubt wearing on Fishman Island. I wanna see what he does next.

I guess since I'm doing this OC thing I'm going all out so I answered some OC questions I found (One Piece OCs)

I ended up picking only the questions that fit in their "universe", so there's bits and pieces from all of these questionaires.

How did you come up with the OC’s name? Neri: When I was young there was an australian show about a girl living in the ocean and her name was Neri. I took that and assuming it comes from Nerissa, it's the name of a nymph. Then I took the name Sirena from the Mako Mermaids show and her last name Kaiyo means ocean/sea Kaiyo Neri Sirena therefore sounds like a good name for a mermaid.^^ Niara: I wanted mostly names that could be associated with the ocean since this is a pirate show. Kaito means "the one flying over the sea" and Niara means "bright, clear water". Azura: Nagisa means seashore and Azura means sky blue. Cordelia: Cordelia means daughter of the sea. Yes, I looked up possible ocean themed names for all of them. Lady X and Lady Y don't have names yet. Lady X was called Vilandra in the first draft but I really don't like it. If she ever gets a name, I want it to be a longer one and kind of mysterious sounding... How old are they? (Or approximate age range) Neri: 18 Niara: 18 Azura: 30 Cordelia: 24 Lady X: no age yet but she would be the oldest Lady Y: maybe early twenties?

Do they have any love interest(s)? Neri: Zoro Niara: Law Azura: undefined Cordelia: undefined Lady X: maybe? Lady Y: maybe?

Is their current design the first one? Neri: I think she had green eyes at first but then I decided on brown eyes. Actually, I couldn't decide on a design forever. Her hair went from ordinary brown to a lighter/slightly reddish maybe version (but still brown overall) and the newest addition are her freckles. Azura: Pretty much kept her design. Cordelia: Also kept her design. Lady X: I think she was a blonde at first. Black hair was also considered, then white, then grey, now it's maybe a really really pale blonde/maybe pale grey/white... idk something very pale though Lady Y: was still a blonde yesterday, now I'm thinking oooh but I have every haircolor now except red... xD Also, recently I accidentally added a scar on one of her picrews, so now I want her to have scars?

How many sibling does your OC have? Neri: it is mentioned that she had quite a few siblings since I image that fish people clans are quite big? She did not grew up on Fishman Island (because she was created before I started to read the Manga), so this probably was a separate community in the East Blue (where she met the Strawhats after being the only survivor after humans captured her entire family) Niara: I initially started with four or five but reduced them to three later on. At some point, Rear Admiral Hina was turned into an older sister of Niara XD Azura: She's an only child Cordelia: unknown since she doesn't remember anything and was found wandering around on her own, stealing from people as a kid Lady X: unknown, probably an only child Lady Y: unknown

What is the OC’s relationship w/their parents like? Neri: I imagine her bond with her parents was very close. Niara: She was close with her late mother but does not have a good relationship with her father at all. It didn't take him long to put a bounty on her head when he learned that she had become a pirate. Azura: she was close with her parents Cordelia: unknown Lady X: unknown Lady Y: unknown

Do you ever see yourself killing off the OC? Honestly, I never want to kill my OCs. The only one I could see dying is Lady X for noble reasons but it's highly unlikely that I will end up actually killing a character of mine

has there been any part of having this oc (designing, writing, drawing, etc...) that was difficult? Neri: she was the first One Piece OC so creating her was the hardest. I just didn't feel anything was right for her. Until bamm, all the puzzle pieces just fit. I’ve just reread poly philtatos again (!!) and idk if it was intentional but one thing I’ve found a little funny was how zoro was acting like there was this giant age gap between 22yr old him and 21yr old him (narratively I completely understand why, and I think the differences are super interesting and well done!) but I did giggle a little bit when he kept on calling his past self annoying. Like. That was you 365 days ago. Have a great day!!

LOL yeah!!! there's actually a bigger age-gap between them than that in the fic, haha. or there was supposed to be, at least. zoro says he's a few years older than them, and i was picturing him like... mid/late twenties? looking back now, i seemed to have changed that line to say "one or two years" during a round of edits, but in the original draft on my PC still says "a couple of years"... not sure what prompted that (i mess with my fics a lot when i'm posting them in the ao3 editor sometimes...) and i'll probably change it back .

basically the ~future~ was supposed a world where "endgame" stuff doesnt IMMEDIATELY happen after wano and luffy stays an emperor (builds out the fleet, takes over protecting some of whitebeard's old islands, etc. etc.) before claiming the one piece. i tried to hint at more time passing with things like the kid pirates assimilating into the SH grand fleet and (the older SHs tease zoro about hanging out with killer at SH grand fleet meetings toward the end) but admittedly i wasn't that successful with clarifying the timeline in the story, heh.

honestly, almost all of my fics adhere to "one piece time dilation" where more time passes in the world than in canon, and maybe someday i'll write the whole timeline out. it's based on stuff like color spreads, cover stories, character birthdays, and "realistic" travel, but the only thing relevant to PP specifically is that the younger SHs are over three years out from shells town and the older SHs were supposed to be a similar distance from fishman island for, like, ~the parallels~. which is why i'd like to have a word with my past self. that's on me 😔

the thing is, i really would call one piece, from the first chapter up to marineford (and a little bit after, up to the timeskip), a perfect 10/10. yes, there are flaws here and there, but... this manga moves me, the characters make me cry and yearn and root for them, i feel extremely emotional with the worldbuilding, and care, and love for these interesting cast of characters, how unrest builds up in the background. so the less great moment don't really... negate the positiveness i feel about it overall? it's fun and silly and just so very cute with it's adventure and romance!

and then there's sanji, and sanji's fate during the time skip, and his reactions afterwards, and just.

i feel a little bit at a loss, bc i liked the sanji vs bon clay fight, i like bon clay as a character, i like ivankov as a character, and i wish sanji could see crossdressers as women, or-- however they wish to been seen as, tho the trend does seem to be mtf rather than ftm characters thus far, (even if ivankov switches often), instead of recoiling SO much, and seeing them as revolting. his reactions are just so transphobic, yk? and it really didn't have to be!

like i'm not sure disappointed is the word i think of when i think post-timeskip? bc i did enjoy the arcs i read/watched. i liked fishman island, i liked punk hazard, i liked dressrosas, and the... most of the sanji wedding arc which is where i stopped? but i'm not sure i found it as good as the first half tbh? but maybe it's more flawed? idk! i'm curious to see if my mind will change, bc there's such a difference between reading weekly and forgetting all the details, and binging 10ish chapters a day, so who knows?

so, sanji's not the reason that the second half became... not as good, bc i do think the arcs themselves might be a bit bloated??? but. watching his reactions, the nosebleeds for nami/any busty woman, and how he acts around crossdressers... i do get a bit disheartened, tbh? like it didn't have to be this way, but it is, for the sake of comedy, which... does not reflect well. like i think he was fine in punk hazard and dressrosas, if i recall? but this particular running joke of this in fishman island, and then the charlotte pudding marriage just... doesn't sit right.

Ok so I know the fan-interpretation is that Wind is amazing swimmer because of sailing. But I think people forget that the great sea is a post-apocalypse setting. Like beside monsters and fishman (which is literally a talking fish) there are no living creatures in it. There is a huge joke about how there are no Zoras in Wind Waker after all but like there is a reason they evolved so rapidly to the Ritos, aren’t you a bit scared as to why?

[side note; could be such a interesting angst story idea, like while typing this I do wonder how islanders get food and water, like I know there are crabs and pigs so I’m assuming they use that as meat supply and there is talk about crops but that still a small amount and that not to mention fresh water, which could be hard to get in the open sea, where the water around you is extremely dangerous and islands are sparse in between...not to mention if that ocean water contaminates the fresh water supply, it could be really bad. Also not to mention there probably a bunch of horror stories of people running out of water during sailing that Wind definitely grew up hearing, I guess the alternative would be drinking alcohol which is also another angst mess that could be toyed with...I saying there was probably a famine at least some point in this kid life]

But also Wind is just a terrible swimmer cause he like drowns after like 30 seconds so if not a bad swimmer, he at least has shit stamina. (Also if you include Spirit Track I’m not sure what the deal is in Phantom Hourglass, haven’t played it but I’m guessing something similar, you can’t swim in that game at all soo...)

Yknow when i first started one piece, i started it out of spite bcs in like only a few weeks one of my friends managed to hit like episode 100 or smth, and i was like "....fuck you i can do that shit too." is this another one of my niche crossover posts? perhaps, but it’s been sitting in my drafts so i might as well send it off. there's a shared general theme of revolutions, freedom and anti-government sentiments so it’s not like it’s out of nowhere.

bit of background for non-arcpod fans, each of the lands within Station Arcadia fits a certain punk aesthetic: Gannon Islands is Solarpunk, the Empire is Dieselpunk, Hardizan is Steampunk, and Talsoria is Cyberpunk. as for the characters, i'll try to give a lil description but you really just gotta listen to the podcast to really understand my choices.

Basically, this is just a personal headcanon, that has zero basis in canon so take it as you will.

I was thinking about the ways in which Fishmen/Merfolk culture might be similar or different from human cultures above ground. And one of the obvious things is that they have INSANELY diverse physiologies. That isn’t to say that humans (or other OP races) aren’t diverse, but Fishmen/Merfolk (and I guess Minks too!) have a much greater range, in that they’re often presented as [Insert fish/sea creature] + humanoid.

So half human, and half...what? Literally almost any “fish,” the category being immensely broad? We have an an octopus fishman (Hachi), a smelt-whiting mermaid (Shirahoshi), teeny guppy quintuplets, and even a Seahorse (minister of the Right). And even just among “sharks” there are tons of variations, from Hody (great white) to Jinbe (whale shark)!

And guess what? Fish are FUNKY. For one thing, again it’s a huge category. But if we’re supposed to assume that fishmen/merfolk can literally be almost any species of fish...there must be some among them, that change sex naturally over the course of their lives like some real fish (for a variety of reasons, including but not limited to their environment/age). They might also have very diverse reproductive organs, that may be compatible due to them being members of the fishman/merfolk race, but still. And those are just two things, not taking into account the insane variation in size, coloration, shape, number of limbs, other physical traits like venomous or not, etc...

Idk, just taking all that into consideration, I find it easy to imagine that as a society, unlike with humans, it might have been more difficult to go, we’re going to assign gender roles based on the two most visibly common sexes, “male,” and “female.” Because uh, does that guy have one dick? Two dicks? More dicks? No dicks? A dick in his arm instead? A detaching dick? Who knows! The seahorse merman is pregnant! Whatever!

Anyway, I could keep rambling about this longer, but my point is, because the differences between individual fishmen/merfolk often surpasses the differences even possible within a single species, I felt that maybe, the sex/gender of someone else may not play a particularly noticeable role in potential sexual attraction.

So for the purposes of this AU, “sexuality,” like as a concept? isn’t really present in Fishman Island, it’s more a Human Thing. On Fishman Island, you like who you like, and if you can have babies, great! If not, no one cares.

Aaand I feel like I’ve exceeded my word count for this answer, sorry it got so long! I didn’t really cover courtship, but eh, you’re already seeing a bit of that through Marco’s Bauble, so hopefully that’ll eventually answer more of your question ^ ^;

Idk friend I totally get what you mean about the vibe, but I also get the feeling that Luffy's not gonna want to just up and leave without kicking big mom's ass. I mean he still has a grudge against her after fishman island after all

yeah, i feel that.  and it’s true that fishman island is still in danger as long as big mom’s active.  but i just can’t see luffy being on her level yet, or this arc culminating in something as huge as a yonkou being taken down….hrmmmMM.  I DON’T KNOW HOW TO RECONCILE ALL THIS.

i definitely think it’s a possibility she’ll get taken down (in a combined effort by luffy and co, bege’s rockets, the tamatebako box, etc) but maybeee her reign won’t be completely destroyed??  so that way there’s still the satisfaction and safety of her being beaten, but it’s not as huge a deal/leap in power levels as if luffy were to just destroy her and her entire regime by himself.

OOOO I JUST HAD A THOUGHT.  i feel like there’s been this running theme this arc that big mom doesn’t treat her kids well and none of them really like her (the arc started with her literally killing one of her kids, and it’s been full of hints of them not telling her things bc they don’t want her to be mad, her insulting them, the reveal about her abusing chiffon and being cruel to pudding etc).  so yah know…..what if………once they realize SH and co have a chance against big mom……some of her own subordinates turn against her and help them take her down so they can take over her regime.  that could be veryyy interesting.
