Reason (1-1) for my question: languages are my guilty pleasure. I'm only fluent in arabic and english rn but I wanna learn as much as I can, even if just basic facts, not a language itself

Any new language IS gonna be hard at first- thats a given. And some languages like arabic / chinese / japanese / korean are listed at the top for difficulty. Ik that german grammar has many many rules and has exceptions... Linguistic sites say thats a reason for its complexity and the majority of learners agree with "yeah it's too difficult"

At this point it feels like a stereotype that was based off facts at first but then got negatively exaggerated?? I think yes german grammar is more "detailed" than the english norm / other grammar rules but it isnt monstrous like whats being often said and spread about it?

i really don't think German is one of the most difficult languages to learn. if you're an english native speaker the things you might struggle the most with are:

- pronunciation (harsher sounds, less soft than english, äöü sounds. when you have someone who can correct you this isn't as difficult to learn)

- grammar (lots of rules and lots of exceptions as well. words are gendered with der, die, das /feminine, masculine, neutral. also learning how to decline words can be tricky as well, but i think that just comes down to memorisation and practice)

- the sheer volume of vocabulary. a lot of words are HIGHLY specific (which is the fun part to be honest. there's lots of german words that are difficult to translate to english bc of this. an example would be the German word "doch" which is something similar to "yes it is" or "is not, is too")

i can imagine the difficulty level might be similar to learning french (at least from what i can compare). honestly i can only judge this so far, at work i do have lots of people around me who are just starting to learn the language, these are a few things that i saw them struggle with as well.

i think it mostly comes down to dedication and interest. you do have to put in a lot of effort, but you obviously have to do that for every language.

i think German gets a bad rep for sounding harsh and brutal, but i think it sounds quite beautiful. here's a little comp of German words i appreciate.

I genuinely think that everyone has all that they need inside themselves and yes, external knowledge is important, but only if it is guided by inner knowing, and someone else's guidance can only get you that far and then, I think, it starts to give you problems. Sorry if this sounds bleak or harsh to you, but I see it as truth. I don't think that anyone is superior, so, maybe that's why I am disgusted by teachers and gurus and guides and so on... you get the idea. We are all just human, we all only know of our life, but if while in our lives, we find each other, even for a moment, then I am ready to consider it as a new experience, and as something for both of us to gain from.

Idk, idk, I know that no one really says it like this but for real, even though I'm not ruling it out, I think that almost everyone in the "spiritual community" is straight up evil, in a sense that there are sooo many false things said in the name of "spirituality", which, from them, is in and of itself vague.

I think you need to have inner resilience and security to get mentored by others. At the end of the day, it's just you, and anyone who is good for you will strengthen and empower that, and anyone/anything that makes you feel disconnected from yourself is not for you.

But MAN wow did sacha and iwan steal the show, right?? They were absolutely AMAZING! Absolutely killing it, made me crack up multiple times they were just...literally the best duo. And man the twist at the end of episode five just GRABBED ME because wow, I really should have seen it coming and it was the best kind of twist where it suddenly made everything Molina had been doing make sense. And like - man, I'm just in awe of Sacha's acting, yknow? The guy acted his SOCKS off in this, like right from the first episode, you know that scene where they reveal that he is. not in fact a police officer SKKSKS but it's like the spyfall reveal, right? the mask drop. only, unlike in spyfall, this isn't sudden - it's a slow ramp-up of something being very wrong with this guy, gradually becoming more and more unhinged, and Sacha just NAILED it. Absolutely phenomenal. And then the way they just added so much DEPTH to his character augh, I wanted him to get out of the whole thing SO BAD even though I knew it was super unlikely. But augh by episode 5 he was SO nervous and paranoid, and then he just spent the first half of episode 6 just.....so palpably terrified?? Augh. Love him. So sad he got stabbed in the neck rip but he made up for it by having the most incredible dialogue with molina for five episodes straight skskks (i'm still losing it over 'you're not going to shower?? ....you handled intenstines today' SKSKSKSK like. ok real talk when I first saw the trailer for wolf I immediately came up with au6, yet another campervan au, which I will probably do not much with but SKSKKS the vibes were there in the series and it was a DELIGHT)

With regards to the rest of the story, it was super interesting, right? I feel like you possibly enjoyed it slightly more than I did (I was like. semi-frequently getting extremely annoyed at the random sexual content that seemed wildly tonally dissonant 80% of the time - I was SO SALTY that Sacha's opera lipsynch of our dreams with a SWORD was intercut with. that. and then also Jack's tendency to just like. physically assault people as a method of questioning like BOY that is. that is a CRIME sir. I know you're desperate for justice but do not boyo. But that's kind of a recurring pet peeve I have with crime shows as a rule sksksk). That said though - I did REALLY love Jack, and guh the stuff with his neighbour was SO creepy (LIKE THOSE WEREN'T NIGHTMARES??? HELLO???????) and maaaaaaaaan the stuff with the donkey pitch was so messed up and creepy. It was really good though. I did feel a bit like...'eh' on the end reveal about who the Donkey Pitch murderers were - that was probably in part because Honey had just died RIP but also hmmm idk, like obviously Molina was one of them, but I feel like I kinda wanted more on who Molina actually WAS, other than just some person Lucia knew from when she was in psychiatric care? Like my running theory the whole time had been that he was actually Theo, Hugo's older brother, simply because he looked a heck of a lot like Hugo skksks and it had just been an interesting throw-away line from Hugo's dad that didn't really go anywhere. I think also the twist with Lucia rang a bit hollow to me simply because the twist with Molina had been SO satisfying because it made all these little weird things make sense and I felt like I SHOULD have known (especially after honey and matilda's scene where they talk about letting people think they're more stupid than they are), but with Lucia (at least, for me personally) it felt a bit more out of the blue. But it was good, don't get me wrong - the stuff with her, hugo and sophie made a lot of sense and maaaaaaaaan that was so dark. And then I REALLY loved the ending for Jack, like the decision to not reveal what actually happened at the donkey pitch, and him finding out that stuff about his brother and then burning the treehouse and FINALLY getting some control back over the whole thing.........BUT THEN INTERCUT WITH THE REVEAL THAT HIS BROTHER HAD BEEN ALIVE?????? LIKE????????? AHHH??? That was SO well done.

Anyway. Show good. I enjoyed. There was actually a lot of things narratively and thematically that I particularly enjoyed - like even though the two storylines felt quite disparate at times, there were so many things connecting them or echoing between them! Off the top of my head, it's things like the idea of people being in your house and doing stuff when you're asleep - like with Penderecki but also how Molina and Lucia did that too with Sophie and Hugo. And then how like, Matilda tries to break that bathroom mirror to escape, and then Jack and Lincoln are escaping in a, uh. Different way and they DO break a bathroom mirror. Stuff like that. There were definitely more than that but I can't remember them right now, but it was like....idk the way that they echoed between each other gave it an internal resonance which made it very satisfying to watch (and is actually the same technique I've tried to use in campervan part 6, which is possibly why it appealed to me so much!). I also really liked the repeated use of mirrors and mirror shots - I feel like that was trying to say something too but I haven't quite untangled it yet. But yeah! Fun times.

hi!! no worries i love answering questions like these (¬‿¬) sci fi fantasy stories are incredibly hard to write i don't blame you i envy the people who are able to do it easily!! the government is esp hard for me since the story deals with multiple solar systems and spreads across several different planets like there's no much to deal with and that's one of the hard things about writing governments in sci fi plots 😭 i have a fairly solid idea of what the aurum military system looks like and i use this diagram to help me keep track tbh but everyone will like different kinds of things for their stories so don't let me be the end all be all of what you want for your story!!

so i've got three kings who jointly rule the solar system that is aurum, and for other systems i don't really delve into what the governments look like beyond there being a military/guard presence on the planets. it's kinda a tell as needed basic for me where i don't go thru the trouble of nitpicking every tiny detail and focus more on fleshing on what i know will be important to the plot and the story! and you can always make things up as you go, there's no hard and fast rules against that sort of thing either!

i always feel terrible saying it but honestly i had the idea of space pirate ateez. and then from there the story just kinda blossomed itself. i sat down with the test document where i keep all the character stuff and plot stuff and just kinda let it all come as it did. i did focus on fleshing out the characters first, that was the very first thing i did -- i put down the characters and i went thru creating their backstories and their personalities and their motives and from there the story kinda just took shape and worked its way out from those bare bones i started with

my biggest piece of advice would probably be to not be too harsh or strict with yourself and your writing. the first draft will always be the first draft so it doesn't have to be flawless and perfect on the first go, and even if its imperfect on the second go of things that's okay too. let yourself have fun with it, and if you find that it's stressing you more than making you happy then adjust and find a way to change things so that you become happy with it again!! good luck my friend i'm wishing you the best with it （づ￣3￣）づ╭❤～

okay so lemme get this story straight - he went on a trip to saudi to fulfil his obligations as their tourism ambassador, but failed to obtain the permission to do so from the club. apparently the coaching staff instructions were that if they won the game against lorient, they would have monday and tuesday off, but they didn't, hence only tuesday off. so, messi was clearly absent from training, as he reportedly left to saudi like almost right after the lorient match. as a result, he was handed a two-week unpaid suspension from games and trainings.

and like to makes things worse, rumours are that he seems not interested to stay at psg and is already searching for options, as he will become a free agent in the summer. al-hilal has reportedly made an offer for messi, so this isn't looking too good rn. (and i'm not too sure if the qatar-saudi arabia reported 'beef' also played a part in all this)

is the long suspension necessary? i really have no comment, psg has not handed such a suspension before so idk why they want to do it rn - is it just to show that no player is bigger that the club or perhaps just to make him look bad while he's searching for a new club? also tryna see this from messi's pov, because like he has had to reschedule this trip many time because of his commitments in psg, so he decided to just go and get it done (and also maybe he didn't expect to lose the game?? haha) but yeah with all the transfer rumours going on at the same time, it just doesn't sit too right with many. but like is it wrong for him to be looking at other options rn tho? his contract is ending anyways, and he doesn't seem to want to stay at psg, so why are fans being so harsh?? let the man be lol? at this point, if a player wants to play for the money or for the club, it's really up to them tbh, like what are we to do anyways?

tbh this is the "I language" vs "you language" thing that people tell you about in conflict management, that most people actually get wrong imo

The trick isn't to literally start your sentences with the words "I think", then just say whatever harsh accusation you want. That's nothing. (Hell, it's kinda worse than nothing imo, because it obscures the harshness behind politeness.)

The point is to step back from the thing that feels true, and notice what your actual internal experience is—what you actually dead-ass know because it's literally just your own mind—and then say that.

e.g. instead of "I feel like you don't respect me" (notice how the "I" gives way to a hard statement about the external world basically immediately!!)

I might try to say, "The way you talk to me about X reminds me of how people talk to me when they don't respect me. Is that what's happening here too, or something else?"

because that's literally what's happening: I don't see a way that their actions could be consistent with respect, but I do see a way it could be consistent with disrespect. what theories I can think up is literally all I dead-ass know.

Which like. the trick to this is not just to learn a bullshit sentence format to talk circles around the accusation; it's to actually mean it. to literally believe that what's true is that you don't know for certain what's going on, but you know what it could mean, and that what it could mean is scary.

Because maybe the truth is they don't respect me in this way! And then we can talk about that.

Or maybe they do, but there's something about them and their internal experience that I don't understand yet, because I'm young and the world is large, and people often mean different things with the same words.

Or maybe some of both: maybe they hold respect for me in theory, but they also have trauma habits that lead to disrespect in the moment—and they might not even know this yet, and think at first it's just a miscommunication, but realize upon reflection that it's actually more than that.

And either way, the fact that I didn't just point-blank tell them they probably don't respect me will help a lot, because people often don't respond well at all to being told what their internal experience is!—whether it's true or not.

So here's my thoughts on netflix atla ep 2! It was... hmmmm. Zuko was the best part imo.

Heads up; spoilers obviously. But also I'm a huge fan of the original, so I'm heavily biased and also literally cannot not compare them. This is my opinion only, and if yours is different that's completely fine! I just wrote this out mainly for me to get my thoughts in order, and posted it for fun. Anyway! Here's my extremely long rambling:

The Northern Water Tribe attack warning - it’s unnecessary. They’d already need to go there to get Aang and Katara a waterbending master. There’s no need to take away from the sudden shocking attack just to add a deadline they don’t need. They have Sozin’s Comet for a deadline. If they’re even going to add that. Honestly can’t tell at this point.

Kyoshi - her showing up and possessing Aang takes away from Roku being the first show of Avatar State power. And it being possible from any shrine instead of needing the Winter Solstice? Huh. Also, she’s really harsh and mean; in the cartoon she’s more just stoic and blunt? Is she supposed to be a stand in for the mentor role instead of Roku? Don’t see why they made Kyoshi throw down this episode either; story wise, Kyoshi Island... isn’t all that major. Why did they choose here in this minor skirmish to showcase the power of the Avatar? It’s seriously overkill.

Zhao - not assholeish enough, just kinda smarmy. Where’s him smugly shoving in Zuko’s face the fact that his father doesn’t want him? I miss feeling like I want him to drop dead. Also, his sideburns aren't big enough lmao. Have him swap with Lieutenant Jee.

Zuko - really getting the teenage angst vibes here and I love it. Zuko is my favourite character so far. Also wow, he’s actually fairly emotionally aware. And pretty reasonable? Like, they're really toning down how much of a jerk he was in the original, huh?

(I kinda knew they'd do this tbh. Adaptation writers have this Thing where they see what the fans like, and then misunderstand why the fans like it. We like Zuko because he has an amazing redemption arc, goes through shitTM, and ultimately becomes a badass good guy. But his arc was only so great because we saw how very low he started. Zuko was an asshole for most of the show. Like seriously, he was not a nice person in s1 and s2 and most of s3. He was angry and bitter and callous, and there were only a few times where his better side shined through to give us a glimpse of the kind of person he could be. So when he embraces that side, and fully turns his back on his abusive father, we are right there with him, seeing him at his lowest point, and watching him rise higher than anyone thought possible. If he starts out more mellow, less of a trashfire little shit, almost a nice person, then he can't rise to such great heights. And that's a shame.)

Aang’s fear - I don’t like him being so powerful the monks were scared of him. As a kid, he’s supposed to have a peaceful, happy life; that’s why getting all that abruptly shattered and ripped away hurts so much. And his fear of the Avatar State would be valid - except that he calmed himself down last episode without anyone’s help?? He seemed to be able to control the Avatar State just fine, so there is no problem, and thus, no reason for his fear.

Captured by Kyoshi Warriors - it's weird that Aang airbended when they were ambushed and they had zero reaction, but it was him airbending that proved he was the Avatar in the cartoon. I also don’t like the deus ex machina statue.

Ozai - face reveal?? I like his voice. But for the love of god, stop putting the firelords on the same step as everyone else!! He should be on his throne, behind the fire, in shadow, with a low-up camera angle- He’s a dramatic ass bitch, stop taking away from his dominance displays!

Unagi - Kyoshi stopping the attack means no Unagi, and I am sad. Idk maybe they didn’t want to bother with the cgi? But they did Kysohi? Ok… Oh also, isn’t the Unagi the thing that kept most outsiders away? Weird that they’d not even mention it.

Commander - guys stop feeding Zhao’s ego. Let Uncle Iroh subtly put him down by calling him a Lieutenant.

Sokka and Suki - I don’t like it. It was cute in some scenes maybe, but wayyy too forced. By taking away Sokka’s sexism, they’ve taken away the main rift between Suki and Sokka as well as the reason for them making up. Sokka swallowing his pride and humbly asking for lessons is the only reason Suki gives him a second glance, and then she gets to know and respect him. They didn’t just see each other and have some innate attraction! Also she gave him one (1) kiss on the cheek, because it was at most a crush and mutual respect at this point, not some big thing! I would’ve bought it if he’d fought her at the statue and she’d taken him out and he was impressed and smitten and then tried to awkwardly fumblingly get to know her - but that’s not what happened! I’m pretty sure she was holding Katara at that point. There’s no reason for them to notice each other. Is it seriously just because they’re hot?? Come on guys! You’re better than this! Sorry. Rant over.

Gran Gran - ah. She’s back as the exposition master I see. Have a scene where her grandkids try to go off and save the random kid they found, get busted, brace for anger, only to receive her support and love as she tells them how proud she is and how scared? Nah, just have a voice over, it’ll have about the same emotional impact, I’m sure. Well, I guess that’s one way to skip the Waterbending Scroll episode.

Katara - so this is a trend is it? She’s just- not gonna get mad at the things she should be getting mad at. She didn’t break the iceberg from anger, and she doesn’t feel bitter and jealous of Aang being a bending prodigy. O-kayyy. (Because imo her jealousy was less ‘oh he’s getting this faster than me’ and more ‘omfg I am the last waterbender in the south and this is MY culture and if I’m failing to learn this then that’s one more thing the fire nation has taken from me and would you please stop rubbing in my face how much better you are-) Yeah, so what does this mean for Imprisoned and Jet?

Suki’s mum - by making Suki’s mum the hard, untrusting person, and making Suki the more trusting hopeful one, it takes away a big part of Suki’s character; she’s a warrior that was born, and grew up, shaped by the war. She and her people were so untrusting of outsiders and the danger they posed that they would throw them to a sea monster to get eaten alive rather than trust. And it’s Aang and Sokka that inspires Suki to change that way of thinking. By taking away her initial distrust, it’s taken away her ability to change. Just like Sokka, less character flaws means less character development.

Katara standing right there so that Zuko looks up and spots her - like Katara, come on! At least try to be subtle! This is the Last Agni Kai all over again I swear-

Momo - he’s… hmm uh yeah. Idk. I don’t like. Sorry.

Suki’s facepaint - ok ok, sure, they couldn’t trust the audience to be able to point her out with her facepaint on so they made her take it off, but like- the whole point of the facepaint is so no one stands out and gets targeted? And now? She stands out??

Sokka doesn’t wear a dress - I am disappointed. I am very disappointed. The dress is not just a dress, it’s 1) showing how Sokka is willing to follow, adapt to, and respect other’s traditions, 2) proving that what you wear doesn’t affect your skills, and 3) it’s vital to making Suki, in turn, respect him. The writers are cowards. Let my man wear a dress!!

Coward - speaking of, why do people keep calling Aang that?? He didn’t run away in this one! It really doesn’t hit very hard at all when he literally Didn’t. Run. Away. If you’re going to make changes, stop referencing the old version!

Kya - the flashbacks to Katara’s mum when the fireballs got too close were pretty good. Just enough detail to know something traumatising happened, not enough to reveal the whole story. And it’s realistic that Katara would have a trauma response to fire.

Power scaling - an issue of last episode too. The original was good at slowly building up and introducing the power of the world. We go from Zuko, to Zhao, to Azula, to Ozai, to Sozin's Comet. But since we’ve seen the firebenders at the height of their power - during Sozin’s Comet - all other firebending should now be less impressive. (I say “should be” because tbh the firebenders under Sozin’s Comet weren’t even much more powerful looking?)

Weapon - why does Kyoshi call the Avatar the ultimate weapon? That sounds like General Fong type shit. The Avatar is the bridge between the physical and the spirit worlds, they keep the balance. In no way does that mean they have to become a weapon. In fact, I would argue that a good Avatar must be the furthest thing from a weapon, because weapons are wielded by others to kill, but the Avatar should be independent in the decisions they make, striving for peace, if they want to see the bigger picture and keep the balance for all.

Appa - he was there. He didn’t look too bad. I hate that that’s the only thing I can say about him.

Sokka finally shows the boomerang - but he still doesn’t use it in combat. At this point I think they’re trying to contain the sheer power that would be unleashed should he get to wield it.

RIP the pirates - I get the time constraints, but I am sad we never get to see the sheer unhinged-ness of Zuko's stubborn ass. This mf out here catching goss of a bald kid and a waterbender and immediately grabbing it with his teeth.

Hmm yep, think that's everything for now. It's a fine episode if I don't think about stuff too hard, but if it's only good when my brain's turned off then it's not really that great, yknow? Okay, these are deep... let's go one by one.

Love and life are connected imo, I do think we somewhat live to love (and occasionally love to live? At least to live a more fulfilling life, even when it seems too hard and we're so hurt we would just hate everything and everyone. But I don't think hate is ever the answer to anything. It just brings more hate around and I'm not sure how many "haters" do really enjoy staying there. It gets heavy for them too most of the times). Love is.. well, love. I wouldn't really separate between self, platonic, familiar and romantic. Ofc they come in different forms (different loves are accompanied and enriched by also other different feelings for example there could be lust for a romantic partner, a special bond-sensation for some platonic/familiar people, acceptance for the self -just giving random examples ofc), but at the core, it's always the same feeling based on caring, respect, understanding, compassion, support, trust... And I think they're all related, and they all contribute to filling your cup too not just the ones of those receiving.

I understand very well when you say you don't see much humanity, kindness and love around: the more I look the more I see hatred and harshness, lack of respect (of the self and others): instead of helping each other towards a common goal, instead of collaborating one another, it's like we're competitors or even the target on which others throw their personal frustrations on. And it's very disheartening. I do think we're here (our purpose/what are we alive for) to learn some lessons for our own path, to realize what are our own personal gifts/abilities and share them, to work as a whole human community to reach some kind of collaborative higher state(? dunno how to word what I just saw in my mind), but I don't think we're always doing that great... Ofc we cannot be perfect: as humans we aren't by definition, but we could try a little more sometimes, even just by staying a little more open and welcoming to other chances, for as unreal and crazy as they may look (not talking just about spirituality ofc: even the simple idea of being "wrong" or having to heal something may be unknown to some, for their own issues ofc I'm not here to blame anyone... everyone has their own problems and their way to see or not see, heal or not heal them). I think I am moved by kindness, random acts of gentleness and courtesy. And by gestures of care and protection towards those more in need. Giving to others what we can, how we can.

Atm I live in Italy. I have no clue where I want to live in the future but I'm not sure I will stay here.... I have a couple of ideas tbh but atm it's all just a feeling. As for going somewhere peaceful, Idk if that exists anywhere atm (unless you go to a cabin in the woods, which imo wouldn't be that bad lol) but hopefully it will. I hope you can find your peaceful place, maybe your home (I do think some of us are born in a place to learn something and then take those lessons somewhere else with them... maybe where they find their home, which could be just a Nation, a new career, or new people/romantic love. Home could be anything, and peace/grounding can come in different ways and also suddenly). I do hope that as humans we start collaborating and communicating more, instead of just supposing and acting with force, and starting wars against others at any given time (when most of the wars we start, aren't supposed to happen outside against others but inside of us with ourself -"with" cause I believe we should just try to negotiate peace everytime we can and be a little more forgiving of us: we're just trying).

i have a lot of complicated feelings, but most of all i am really concerned for masa's well-being, bc he posted some kind of disturbing vent art before completely vanishing and its been over a week and there has been no activity at all from his account and idk. i just have a bad feeling he has hurt himself..

this isn't me DEFENDING him though, i feel like i should make that very clear if anyone's been on twitter, you've probably seen the thread that was made basically listing all the things masa's done that are bad and i agree with some parts, but others i really don't get

for example: masa's drawn weird stuff involving kids! nothing that could be classified as CP, but still weird nonetheless, and i don't like it at all! this is including adult patch, which i wish i could forget the existence of bc i legit never looked at the lyrics until very recently. it's also important to mention that he hasn't drawn anything like that (to my knowledge) since 2013... almost 10 years ago. so i don't think he's about that anymore, but it's still something that definitely happened

there's also many people parroting the idea that masa doxxed a minor, which is FALSE. he never did anything of the sort. what DID happen was masa brought attention to a person illegally streaming the spider and the kitsune-like lion, and tried to ask him to take it down to no avail. people then sent him personal information on the guy (via DMs) and he essentially was going to use it to take legal action. it may seem harsh, but this person's reupload had almost a million plays on spotify and was actively profiting off of a song that a) masa owns and b) masa wants gone from the internet more than any song he's ever made. eventually, masa apologized on twitter, saying that his fans were never supposed to see this and that it wasn't supposed to go down this way. he deleted all the tweets relating to the spotify guy too.

theres a bunch of other stuff i could get into but it would make this post WAY TOO LONG!! so i'm not unless someone asks abt something specific

one last thing: the reactions i've seen from some 'fans' after his meltdown (idk what else to call it) are fucking disgusting. i've seen ppl say that he's overreacting, that its just bait, or just actively making fun of him for it without a shred of empathy. he very clearly has something going on mentally and we have no idea what his personal life is like, so it's just cruel to act like that. people like that have no conscience and i don't respect them at all

more than anything, i believe in giving people second chances and if/when masa comes back, i am willing to continue being a fan as long as he doesn't pretend like nothing happened. still, i'm really concerned that he won't come back :((

I’m not sure if you’ve seen anyone comment about how “similar” tdp is to ATLA or even people going far as to claim that tdp is a “ripoff” esp with the Soren, Claudia, Viren arcs in comparison to Zuko, Azula, Ozai. I personally find Soren more similar in characterization (though not entirely the same) to Steve Palchuck from the Trollhunters/Tales of Arcadia series (not sure if you watched or not) and if any character comes to mind about being similar to Zuko, it’s definitely Hunter from the Owl House in terms of characterization and arcs. Idk if you’ve done a meta about this before but I love reading your thoughts (if you’re interested ofc).

So I have done a couple of metas on ATLA x TDP, mostly noting the thematic similarities between them (bloodbending and dark magic, pre-S4's puppeteering too lol!) and between Rayllum and Kataang as developing relationships. Meta comparing "Thunderfall" and "The Southern Raiders" here, meta talking about Kataang and Rayllum (s1-s2 as it was written pre-s3) here.

Also a more opinion based piece on why I could get behind Rayllum but have never really been a romantic Zutara fan (I see them far more as narrative siblings, which is still one of my favourite metas I have ever done)

I am a big Trollhunters fan (reblog more about it on main @thethiefandtheairbender and various other cartoons like SU, HTTYD, OTGW, Infinity Train, etc) and I adore Steve, but I don't think I'd really compare Soren to him, simply because while I love Steve and his development, Soren's development is undeniably deeper and more pyschological, I think.

That said the ATLA character that reminds me the most of Soren is Sokka. Goofy, prone to joking regardless of if the situation calls for it ( "Mind if I watch you two jerks do your jerk bending?") just to get a rise out of people, lmao, sometimes overly confident or reliant on their battle prowess, and desperate to prove themselves to their fathers. Sokka's attitude particularly in early book 1 reminds me of Soren's in s1, as well as their more skeptic attitude and relationships with their more magically inclined younger sisters

For Callum, he reminds me the most of Katara and Mai (again, true before S4, but interesting to see how much he shut down the way Mai largely did due to her family relationship, so again, kinda fun that worked out). And Hunter from the Owl House was definitely one of my faves! I think he falls into a category a lot of more modern day redemptions do, though, in terms of not letting their character actually be messy enough for long enough that it feels like maybe redemption isn't in the cards (hi Claudia my beloved, you excellent subversion sweetie). Or they go too far and don't give enough reason for a character to effectively redeem themselves (eyes SPOP with a long sigh). And just to clarify, I do think Claudia will have a redemption arc, but I appreciate how we're going about it thus far.

It's funny bc in some ways while Zuko has never been my favourite archetype (particularly for male characters), my protagonist in my og work is a bit like him: lost, angry, easily resentful, and she's my baby.

I think I'm just kinda over arcs of "Oh my father figure is Bad / imperialism is bad"? Because 1) Zuko did it so well and 2) I wanna see stories that go beyond those things or do new things with those concepts (please no more "rich white lesbian girl with a mean family" arcs I am. so tired). I think that's why I like TDP so much, because dark magic thematically and its explorations of self destructive behaviour add a lot of layers and interesting aspects to all the dynamics that I don't see most other media for this age demographic kinda taking advantage of, tbh
