very funny how umineko goes out of its way in the early chapters to present rosa as the most level headed and likeable ushiromiya sibling when her literal first line in the story is to chastise maria for her idiosyncratic (and ultimately harmless!!) way of speaking as a twofold insight into the cruelty that is the ridiculous social script you cannot ever be allowed to deviate from and also just Existing as a neurodivergent individual.

#umineko liveblog #ep1 reread #i think maybe the story is banking on you also being a little annoyed by maria so your depleted sympathies therefore miss some undertones #in that if umineko followed conventional anime/vn tropes maria as a character circles around some very irritating archetypes #like i wonder how many people didn't catch the rancid vibes between rosa and maria until the scene in the garden #because even when i wasn't paying too much attention the first time around i got that rosa was definitely hardcore twofaced #idk i am trying to imagine a less sympathetic reading of umineko and scratching my head at how something like that could exist
